Happily getting my old AOS chaos models rebased onto squares. They look much more handsome this way. Hopeful to get a game against some Tomb Kings on the calendar for next year.
The guys played a couple of games over the weekend. It feels like the Empire are completely contraindicated from leaving the house without 2-3 guns.
>>97229898This is better.
>>97229898Kino, flock mats/tables need to make a comeback
Night goblins army (plus spiders, trolls and maybe some normie goblins), yay or nay?
Work in progress. Any tips on how to improve it?
Played a game against a local empire player. Guy brought an infantry-heavy army to utilise a newly painted war altar vs my usual.

>>97230268I had:Lord Ajtes (exalted champion, meteoric armor, crown of everlasting conquest, chaos chariot, extra arm, MoK)Sorcerer lord, level 4, carrion crow talisman, puppet12 Mok halberd warriors6 MoK Knights2x5 dogs1x5 marauder horsemen, "throwing axes", spears, shields5 chosen knightswarpfire dragon, level 2Empire player had:GeneralBSBWizard level 1Grand Theogenist on popemobile27(?) veteran swordsmen, griffon banner10 handgunners10 crossbowmen2x5 bows27 greatswords27(?) fanaticscannonmortarsteam tankWe decided to do the WoC journal scenario.
>>97230311As per the scenario the empire player went first. Handgunners killed a knight, crossbows killed four warhounds, the cannon and steam tank managed to put 4 wounds on the dragon (the change to regeneration saves being "per lost wound" rather than "per source of wounds" definetly made that a lot less swingy).During the chaos warriors turn 1 the foul wyrm hid behind a nearby pillar, killing two state troopers with its warpfire breath, while the rest of the army advanced to set up charges. >Turn 2The empire army unloaded another barrage into my lines, killing a total of one chaos knight. In response my left flank engaged the enemy, while the knights were whittled down to only two by the overwatch, they, Ajtes, the warpfire dragon and the marauder horsemen all made their charges. On my right flank the warhounds engaged the archers that had for two turns in a row failed to do a single wound to them. In combat the warhounds sustained no damage, but the archers fell back in good order. On the other flank, the marauder horsemen suffered a wound but reduced the archers to a single man. While the remaining knights and chaos lord destroyed the handgunners and overran into the flagellants... and the veteran state troopers engaged by the dragon, that had yet to fight.
>>97230349The resulting combat involved a lot of dice rolling. The winded and whittled knights failed to do much to the flagellants, but their presence (and champion) ensured my chaos lord would not be challenged out by a pesky state trooper. In the end the dragon carried the day, as even after the flagellants managed to drag down the knights, killing three out of the remaining two, a monstrous stomp killed five state troopers meaning that in the end even after the extra ranks and bonuses, I won that combat by five. The empire general tested vs Ld9 due to terror and rolled a ten. which he rerolled due to the BSB into a second ten.
>>97230061Why some normie goblins? Otherwise yay.

>>97230387Ajtes remained locked with the flagellants, but the dragon ran down the fleeing swordsmen and fled off the board, safe from any vengeful cannon fire. The fall of the swordsmen panicked the crossbowmen who fled through the greatswords behind them. >turn 3The empire army tried to counter the assault, the greatswords charged against the lone warhound but it simply fled and they were stranded in front of my chosen knights. In the shooting phase some cannon fire brought down one of the chosen, but there wasnt much else that was accomplished. In combat Ajtres killed a good few flagellants but remained engaged with their remainder. On my turn marauder horsemen charged the flagellants, hoping to help free up my general so that he doesent get ganked by a war altar. The chaos sorcerer cast his first spells of the game, getting off both daemonology buff spells. The chosen knights knew they had to either face the steam tank or the greatswords, and face a charge by whoever they left, and decided that the greatswords offered a juicier target (the scenario also rewarded killing enemy characters). The warpfire dragon tried to launch its bile at the steam tank, but missed and got partials on my chosen knights, which then failed to validate. In combat Ajtes and the marauders finished off the flagellants, while the warhounds finished off the remaining archer and were finally into the cannon. The chaos sorcerer got off his daemonic familiars, the vengeful demons performed far beyond expectation and dragged down SIX greatswords on their own, before the sorcerers poisoned axe killed a further two. The chosen knights did no worse, soundly wiping the entire unit, leaving only a lone captain to impotently swing against them. The BSB was then cut down as he tried to flee from combat. And the knights reformed to face the lone steam tank, which alongside the war altar was all the empire had really left. It was at this point that we called the game.
>>97230469There was definitely a possible mismatch of list power there. I brought my usual list (which I do not consider particularly finely tuned, but which has some very powerful punch in the right circumstances) while my opponent brought a rather unfocused infantry force. The dice, however, also played a big factor. The empire's shooting accomplished very little, and some lucky charges and combats saw me get where I needed and win when I needed. Play was also, however, a factor; the war altar did nothing all game (it didn't even get any powers off), and the empire was forced into permanent reactive play, which did not help them any, 300pts of empire soldiery vs 1000pts of chaos warrior steel tends to go only one possible way. My opponent, however, is also building up some Grand Cathay, and we discussed playing again in the new year. Maybe with me bringing more infantry (I have some forsaken I have meant to finish up, but which will wait for my 30k stuff to be done).Magic remains unconvincing to me, although the daemonology buff definitely helped. Maybe I should stop taking the puppet and take a lore familiar.
What rules are you guys playing? I played during the 5th and 6th edition eras before coming back around. My small, local group plays Warhammer Renaissance which combines the nostalgia with some more balanced improvements. I haven’t really paid attention to GW for 20 years and I see they are still selling a lot of the same Bretonnian minis from the 90s.
>>97230586lol where does one begin. Does it even matter if someone in this position knows what AoS is or what has happened to Fantasy in the time they’ve been absent? The current supported rules are for the Old World which is set before Karl Franz became emperor or something but its just Fantasy. Play whatever rules you can if you like them…
>>97230586>I haven’t really paid attention to GW for 20 years and I see they are still selling a lot of the same Bretonnian minis from the 90s.Oh man did you miss some shit
>>97230699Maybe it's for the best not to tell him.
GW has only been the best for the past 20 years.
I know it's a longshot, but does anyone have the original rules for 1st Ed fantasy?
>>97230739Im more interested in apocrypha now!
>>97230739Check the OP.
Snagged an army book ive been looking for as a Christmas treat. Quite excited.
>>97230690I love your goblin, the lips are so cool, never seen them done like that. Those old sculpts have an insane level of charm.
>>97228053>>97228156Thanks for the replies, anons. I'll switch the runefang for something else.I'm not entirely sure what to give him instead, since the miniature has a sword I want to give him one for visual clarity, hence the sword of justice seems the most fitting. Beyond that it's determining what I want for my general's protection, a jade amulet + perhaps a spellshield just in case a magical attack gets through.
>>97229599Is RPG stuff even canon? Has any of that stuff ever cross back over into proper Fantasy?
>>97230873Don't try to do the impossible. The Empire has NO melee heroes. Accept that fact. The Empire's General has 10 Leadership and 5 Ballistics. He has two more or less equal builds:1) General of the Empire, Light Armor, Shield, On Foot, Twice-Blessed Armor, The White Cloak, Laurels of Victory - 1872) General of the Empire, Full Plate Armor, Shield, On Foot, The White Cloak, Dragon Bow - 153You could try giving him the build Mordian Glory uses in his games, but that's debatable.
>>97230894NTA, it doesn't matter what is canon or not, especially for a light-hearted tabletop and RPG setting. Even if it did, I'm not letting GW decide that for me.I hereby declare that Bögenauer, Borchbach, Clio, Dyrath, Grandfather Reik and Katya are all now considered canon. As is any divine patorn of Your Dudes as long as it conforms to the rule of cool and doesn't mess with My Dudes' fluff too much.
>>97230928It's not for a competitive list, but even for just a fluffy army I figured that only giving him a weapon and no protetion might overdo it. This army also has a wizard lord and an empire engineer for offensive capabilities, and a captain of the empire for the banner and to keep the main vet infantry regiment in the field.
>>97230586I play 6th with some homebrew tweaks, those mostly being balanced rulesets for minis introduced in 7th and 8th. TOW is the latest edition of WHF but like anything by modern GW it's pozzed slop.
i finished my doom divers and the flying guys. thanks to the anon in the last thread who suggested i paint a bit of black grease on there, it looks good in my opinion. i 3d printed out the bases and the actual catapults but all the boyz are made of a mix between random 40k orks and leftover fantasy orc bits. you can see the crew behind them that are still a wip but they are all gw bits as well but kitbashed and using a bit of twine for the rope and green stuff for the hooks and to position their arms. the hooks look terrible but they won't be visible much.
>>97231052oh i forgot to say but the divers are obviously attached with paper clips, anyone know what i should paint the stems so they are less obvious?
>>97231052kinoit's criminal that this isn't already a unit with its own rules
