In the woods camping without a tent writing stuff in a notebook for new campaignCant believe I get cell service here
>>97276232>TQJust going to continue with my current campaign. I don’t have to include any shite I don’t wish to include. I just hope the game doesn’t die.
>>97276232TQActually getting a game off the ground. I was meant to have the first session tonight (1 Jan here) with some people from work - an experienced guy (who I actually used to play with in high school), another guy who hasn’t played since high school, and a newbie who has never played. But it’s off now, because one guy has had influenza A, and another is immunocompromised from chemo and so can’t risk seeing that other guy. With all the scheduling issues to even set this up, really feels like it’s never going to happen. Feels bad man.
>TQI hope Elon buys WoTC.
Is anyone using 2024 rules? I was a bit hyped at the introduction of origin feats but pigeon holding them to backgrounds, removing Half-Elf, and then for some god damn reason making access to other feats to require certain level made it so ass.Like why fucking restrict things?
>>97276440Fuck 2024
>>97276440I’m using 2024 rules. I have several pages of houserules though. I’ve told people to just use old races if they want, like half-elf. Ability score bonuses are just picked rather than tied to background. Level requirements for feats don’t bother me, but I am the DM.In general I like 5.5e but I just don’t see the point. It would have preferred more splatbooks instead.
>>97276440>removing half-elfwhat the fuck
>>97276467WoTC is a faggot retard company that shits on tradition to spite it's fanbase.
>>97276469I see you can choose to be a midget as a human now.Wonderful.
>>97276467It was considered problematic to have half races. I’m still not sure why. I thought the wokies were all for interracial marriage etc. Is it offensive to call someone half black? Are they just black? These are different species though. Just seems weird.
>>97276482Wokies are the most racist demographic in history. Like KKK crossburners are less pathologically racist in their worldview.
>>97276467As a half-elf enjoyer I also found this dumb, but (a) you could always use old content (b) you could use either human or elf and flavour as a half-elf expressing one or the other side of their lineage, and (c) they just reintroduced half-elves in the new Ebberon book in any event - so the misstep of not including them in the phb isn’t really a reason to eschew 2024 on its own. Overall I think the class and mechanics updates are mostly for the better.
Do you guys use Bastions? Any tips or advice for running these as a first time DM? The mechanic is extremely appealing to all us, and my players just hit level 3 and they're absolutely jonesing for more cool stuff.
>>97276574The one time I used it the mechanics felt very forced and kind of shit.
>>97276574Don't. Anytime it comes to base building and shit, adding mechanics to it and numbers turns it to complete shit because the players are now dealing with a completely different game and it stalls things further when the party is out doing shit and events are triggering at the base.Any time you do base building simplify it as much as possible. Give the current state of affairs, money, food, populace. When players are at the base think of quests to give them and problems that place can have. When the players leave determine what possible problems were left behind (crime gangs? bandits? a hag living among the people? raiders from a neighbor?) and just do a single roll and determine things that happened.
>>97276599That's disappointing.>>97276634Do you think it functions as a decent foundation for homebrewed mechanics? I'm not really sure I follow the bit about mechanics. The book seems to believe you're supposed to manage your Bastion turns while away from the table, not at it.
>>97276689>I'm not really sure I follow the bit about mechanics. Let's put it this way. You have a small castle with a village surrounding it. Your players own this and want to keep it safe. Goblins and gnolls live near the area and are a constant threat. The players think, "Oh, I want to outfit a small patrol with horses to keep caravans coming to and out of our place safe."With stupid module rules, you now need to complicate things. The town need a Stables building for the horses. They then need an Armory for weapons/armors. They then need Barracks for the new unit to sleep in. They then need Training Grounds to have them trained and ready for battle. Alright, gotta take turns building those buidlings, then spend x amount of gold and then reduce population number by x because you recruited people, now lets do upkeep cost of gold and food, shit shit shit. All of this above can be done better by simplifying shit and roleplay. Rather than go through all those stupid mechanics, you can have the players go around recruiting people, say they quickly buy weapons, armors, and horses (Maybe ask for discount since these will be the protectors of the town), say that your Fighter gives them two week's worth of hard drills and training, and voila. No need for complicated numbers, required buildings, x turns x gold x upkeep mechanic bullshit over roleplay.
