is this battle armour or a little protomech?
I blame Herb.
>>97295845Battle armor. You don't have to wear them like a suit. They can be driven like little mechs. It's a tech level, powerplant and tonnage kind of thing.
>>97295845I have to conclude this is a philosophical question and not an etymological one because otherwise asking this about the "Ravager Assault Battle Armor" is a bit goddamn silly.Under the standard that it doesn't use Enhanced Imaging it is de-facto not a Protomech. It's also too small at 2 tons to blur the line doctorinally. While we're posting BA, what's everyone's favorites? I love the look of the Black Wolf, though honestly I'm still trying to find less modern designs to fit into earlier forces. Has anyone had success fielding IS Standards or earlier in games?
I just really like how the Marauder looks.
>>97295845>>97295885>>97295915Rule of thumb: If it's below four meters, not Clantech and if it isn't using direct brain readings for control, then it's a BA.The proper questions would be if it isn't an Ultralight Industrymech.
>>97296027Even easier. Does it run on batteries? BA. Does it run on a fusion without internal heastsinks? Proto. Does it have internal heatsinks? Ultralight.
Happy sunday anons don't forget to hold your butte.
>>97295845I don't know, but he just seems happy to be here.
Does anyone recall what regiment has a unit insignia that is an angel in a white toga holding a spear with a purple lightning bolt for a tip? Pretty sure it was a regiment for the FWL, but I spent the last few hours pouring over the books and can't find it.
>>97296034You can have industrialmechs running on diesel power or fuel cells, so not having a fusion reactor wouldn't automatically disqualify it.
>>97296070Regulans Rolling Thunder
>>97296070
>>97296139>just a straight up anime waifuBased Regulans
Are there any good shadow hawk variants? I have one laying around from the agoac box and it's a cool looking mech but most of the variants I've tried stink
>>97296237There's late timeline ones that get decent. The 12C is the best - Heavy PPC, ER medium laser, and MML-9.
>>97296237Hound
>>97296237The 2K is a solid design and when helmtech hits the 5M is a straight upgrade, Id rather have a Griffin 3M but it makes a really good sidekick.
>>97295852Herb will eternally piss me off>"LAM's are over powered and should be removed, generating a +4 tmm is broken, even if you are giving over a third of your mass to redundant gear and jumpjets and generating lots of heat whilst moving">"IJJ plus partial wing assaults that easily hit +4tmm, spend a fractional amount of tonnage on jets and the wing, and pack awesome amounts of firepower that LAM's could only dream of? Perfectly fine and balanced"
>>97296034>>97296085It's more about batteries or an engine of any kind. The Exo's the closest thing to Battle Armor you can get, but that runs with a heavy engine
>>97296429+4 is fine when you can have a -3 or even -4. +5 is a war crime.
Enjoyed my first game of Aces last night.
I wonder which is more responsible for people who want LAMs...>No wargames with Macross style mechs outside of Battletech with the LAMs>Armored Core's newest entry making a portion of people wanting fast mechs>Transformers fans>How heavily they are clamped down on making them forbidden fruit
>>97296444That's +4 on an assault. Lights can easily heat +6, one of the regular players at my lgs runs a Jade Proc all partial wing jumper list and it is hell to play against unless you've minmaxed. Pulses plus a TC and precision ammo are mandatory.
>>97296481Their an inherent part of the setting and really cool. Isn't that enough?
>>97296481>>97296514I don't really like LAMs, they're a bit silly to me. Even if they were regularly featured and had good rules i still wouldn't use them, same way I ignore the clans.
>>97296502There's no mech that can get a +6TMM by jumping.
>>97296535That's fine, it's your choice at the end of the day. But those of use that like them want to use them without being penalised by the writers blatant bias.
>>97296481>forbidden fruitaround here (contrarian central), it’s this>>97296514>inherentfuck off
>>97296139Thanks, Anon. I really appreciate it.
>>97296429>>97296481Has anyone tried to remake LAMs with the IJJ and partial wing rules?
>>97296757Physically, the most a mech can jump is 12-14. IJJs take up too much weight and crit space at a certain point, you can only mount about 10 if you use a partial wing and weight saving technology. You can fit 12 normal JJs and a partial wing on a 12/18/12 using full weight saving tech and no armor or weapons.
>>97296514That would effectively be the Macross-style mechs option.
How do IS dudes repair, maintain and replace Clan mechs and equipments? Clan Diamond Fox shop?>Yeah it has been a 100 years, we know how to fix, maintain and all, but we still don't know how to make these shits
>>97296446Shame that I can't get a hold of 48" x 48" mat
Can I shoot so much smoke in front of an enemy mech that it can't shoot back, or shooting phase happens simultaneous and smoke haven't applied its effect yet?
>>97296840Imagine you bring your Alpine A610 to your local mechanic that has spent the last 40 years fixing Fords and Chevies. It still has four wheels and an engine, but it's going to be pretty unfamiliar and the parts are much harder to come by.
>>97296139This is just fancy art, right?
>>97296809Using a Shadow Hawk LAM as an example and only magicking up IJJs and partial wings ahead of their introduction date, you can produce a 5/8/8 Shadow Hawk psuedo-lam with otherwise standard equipment and a half ton left over. I'm not sure that's good, but its something.
>>97296938It's a 55 ton that jumps 8 and runs ultra cool.
Do ASF and LAMs get the same heat reduction that partial wings do? If a small wing gets reduced heat due to excess surface area, then a whole wing should too.
>>97296992
CGL needs to hurry up and just let us print out free record sheets on the MUL like they let us do for AS cards
>>97296864What’s the obstacle?
>>97297244not sure where to find one (fieldtech mats are 32" x 17" small and out of order forever) and my room's kinda small on top of that
>>97297160They said it will happen with new MUL version. For now you can use MekLab, it makes CGL style record sheets.
>>97297370And it has infantry and vehicles so that's a step above flechs.
They can't. The person who made the whole MUL died years ago. No one knows how he did it. They can only add or delete things. They tried over and over to redo it but failed. This is why there is MekLab now. This will be the new "Official" MUL. They have given the MekTek guys the go ahead.
I mean MekBay
>>97297275There are a ton of mat suppliers out there. Try FLG Mats, for example.
>>97297275Yeah, like >>97297725 said, LFG mats definitely exists and sells 4ft x 4ft mats. I have a 4ft x 6 ft that works well for both 6mm and 28mm stuff. Might suck if you are euro, but there are euro mat producers as well.
>>97296650>fuck offThey were in the setting on Day 1 of Battledroids. It's impossible to be a more inherent part of the setting. Seethe, cope, and kill yourself.
>>97297760one great Euro company is UrbanMatz (Poland iirc)
Its kind of funny that the super archer (wolf) is a clantech'd K model.
>>97297765>impossible to be a more inherent partIt is eminently easier to be more inherent. LAMs are just a weird footnote and exaggerating their importance to the setting is pathetic.
>>97296379Unfortunately, the griffin is by far the superior medium.
Late SW era Combine; Would there have been outright war/invasion between Kuritan lords, to seize each others' territories? Like, even a whole planet and stuffs
>>97297725>>97297760Damn, it would have been perfect if those came with hexes printed as well
>>97295915The Corona SRM absolutely slaps, as does the Gnome. The Gnome really is a dream superheavy Elemental.>>97296237Plenty. Just to give two, the SL Royal one (2Ht) is good, if SL Royals don't trigger your 'tisms like they do for some. The 5S is a fast scout flashbulb zombie and pretty out of character for an IS Shadow Hawk.>>97297794I'm much more a Shadow Hawk guy. I would even take a SHD-2H over a GRF-1N. Quantity over damage of guns is more my style, particularly with the GRF-1Ns two guns being hindered by poor heat management.
>>97297513>databases are lostech now
>>97297837I've seen places that will do hexes. Looking around on google search and etsy with keywords "battletech hex battle mat", I see places that will do 4ft x 4ft with battletech sized hexes, which is 11/4 inIf I ever wanted to use mine for CBT over some of the maps I've gotten from box sets/the kickstarter, I'd probably consider getting something like a clear hex overlay, which Ive also seen on etsy.
>>97296446Would aces work for hexmap based Alpha strike?
>>97297924I was really looking forward to acquiring a Shadow Hawk 3K for an upcoming campaign but I flubbed the role to acquire it.
>>972962372Ht and 5S are interesting but generally the Shad runs into a problem that its got average at best variants having to compete against a lot of good if not outright excellent options. That said I have had a fair bit of mileage out of the 2Hb mainly because it is relatively cheap for what it is and been lucky with rolls with the LBX-10.
Do multiple AMS let you engage multiple attacks?
>>97298014Yes, quite a few people have tried it and had no problem. People report that it works with Classic, too.
>>97296446It's easily the best Battletech related product to come out in years. CGL should turn product dev over to Lynnvander since they actually seem to give a shit.>>97298014I think so. As long as you had a large enough field.
>>97296237
>>97296237Fixes everything wrong with the 2H without needing an XL engine.
>>97297826We see the High Command in action under Takashi in Wolves On The Border. The Warlords are not above politically jockeying among themselves, something Takashi encourages to keep them from plotting against him.
Would you rather have two boxes of death with one pair of dice in each compartment or one box with two differently colored pairs in each compartment?
If you were a maid in the Marik militia what mech would you pilot?

>>97298589Oh, I was just looking for a blank map without terrains drawn, for Scouring Sands which you need to put down paper terrains in specific places. Thought pre-drawn hills, woods and stuff will be quite confusing

>>97298681>Oh, I was just looking for a blank map without terrains drawnUse the old Chessex wet-erase maps. They're perfect for that kind of thing and flip over for squares for DnD.
battletech mechs musume?
>>97298328Two. I have 2 with 10 cells and the boxes lock together so you can still maraca in one hand.
>>97298681Ah, so you are wanting one for the campaign proper rather than setting up your own thing. Yeah, that'd make a difference.
>>97298814It has been done.
>>97298702Why the fuck won't the FWL sell the Achileus? You have a better chance of getting a Longinus and that thing's just a slightly better Inner Sphere Standard. The Achileus is comparatively as available as the Leonidas and the only reason the Leonidas is relatively rare is because you're almost paying the price of an actual light mech per suit because of the Angel ECM.
fucking CGL needs to release just the ACES decks.
>>97298917Why would you willingly play alpha strike?
>>97298931because alpha strike is the future of the franchise. nobody cares much about classic. it's too long to play and you cant put enough minis on the board to make it fun. once the grogs die off, it's guaranteed to be forgotten.
>>97299030>It's been so long since the Vroom Vroom memes, that they themselves have become ancient...
>>97299030Bait used to be believable.Have a Dark Age+ record sheet and if looking at it doesn't cause you to burst into flames you can go play a fucking game with it.
>>97299030>you cant put enough minis on the board to make it funClassic isn't intended to have a shitload of minis. It's to have a ton of depth while having few minis - as small as 1v1s. Makes paint projects a hell of a lot less intimidating when you only need to paint a single dude or even just 4.Then there's the customization autism. The sheer amount there would leave it alive on its own.Alpha Strike is fun, but its still intended for whatever reason people want to have a larger battle for.
>>97299166When you have the basics down CBT isn't that hard to scale; though it will always take longer. AS lets you do company on company in a few hours instead of a few days though, you can't really put a price on that.
>>97299191My group did a 24 vs 24 game last year and got through 7 turns in 6 hours. The big thing was that we used "Team Movement", where I was calling "Davion players, move one mech!" and each of the six players on the Davion team moved one of their four mechs, then "Kuritan players, move one mech!" and the Kuritans did the same. So movement in this 24 vs 24 took barely longer than a normal 4v4.Takes a 12 person group, though.
>>97299191Rules as Written there's nothing stopping you from scaling up CBT, but needing a group that consistently and fairly frequently meets up, so that the game isn't just sitting there for a long time can give it Scaling issues. Even if its moreso of an external factor than an internal one.
>>97299229Forgot to add picture.
>>97299253HONOR THE DRAGON
>>97299191I've done company scaled fights in one day, with breaks for food and chatting. You just have to stay focused, be decisive, and work together when resolving damage.
>>97299293Absolutely, the same group could blow though that much faster in AS; though unless I'm strongly time crunched I very much prefer recordsheets and tables to cards.I just wanna play what people are willing to play with me though, so I'm learning to get better at both. I will say that AS should be played with the advanced rules to keep it from being too chutes and ladders when it is played.

>>97299748"Wearing" Marauder armor so can just reach down and scratch
>>97295885This always bothers me because I have no idea how the pilot sits in that. Do his legs extend down? Is he just cramped up in the chest? It is big enough to have a small cockpit? It irks me.
Used bookstores are the best. Just a few years ago Bookman's used to have a bunch of the 90s manuals and record sheets for ten bucks but those have long been picked clean.
>>97299733This is why you always pay extra for the built in ball scratcher option. And don't be cheap with it, you don't want to know what can happen with those off brands, but also don't be too fancy as Ive heard horror stories about guys who bought the TSM ones because it was the shiny new expensive thing.
>>97299798They really are a gold mine just not having to deal with the crackheads of goodwill or the cursed items of estate sales

>>97300097An IS standard would have to be significantly upsized to accommodate an entire person in the torso.
>>97300135Didn't you see that one official art where an ISS was standing twice as tall as the infantryman that was running beside it?
I come with a question. I dimly recall reading in one of the Jihad splats that ComStar had gotten an agent onto a WoB ship or something and he ended up in some extra-dimentional space with demons and shit. Does this ring any bells?
>>97300136An inner sphere standard has to be small enough that a human of above average height can reasonably fit his legs and arms and head into the suit's legs and arms and head, which would mean a much larger torso pod is required to fit an entire adult human just inside of the torso, which would also necessitate larger limbs to support the overall increase bulk of the suit. It's a full redesign.
What's the fuel for the ASF/LAM? I mean I thought they use fusion engine for energy
>>97300211Then again, if you want someone to fight against an Elemental, you'd need a suit that'd be able to stand toe-to-toe with it regardless of the user's height.
>>97300211Higher res
>>97300214That torso is not large enough to fit a cockpit for an average adult human.
>>97300213Deuterium, probably.
>>97300285Probably the closest it can be is like a Land Mate
>>97300213Engines consume power and propellant. The fusion engines cover the power requirement, not the propellant requirement.
>>97300213>>97300287Iirc it's liquid nitrogen or some similarly extremely reactive substance
It probably wouldn't have much affect in the tabletop, but in universe, does an AP weapon mount on Battle Armor also get the subweapons that are apart of weapon systems? Like an Elemental having a Mauser IIC that has the base laser rifle, 6 shot grenade launcher, and a vibroblade bayonet.
Where did the Late SW Comstar hid their good shits? It would be funny if someone stumbles upon Comstar cache with all the lostechs and stuffs.
Wonder if 4/6/0 missile boats would be better if it was 3/5/3
>>97300391In theory yes but I believe the JJ alone would greatly increase the BV cost making them a very unattractive option in games balanced by that?
>>97285750love it! THIS is why we play this game(picture sorta unrelated)
>>97299253>>97299259damn nice! are the hills printed?
>>97300364So, fun fact. The Explorer Corps main two missions was find and catalog all the known SLDF caches and secondarily, contact old Deep Periphery colonies and find the path of the Exodus Fleet. So most of the Comstar goodies not in service were just the random caches that people would stumble across, occasionally. At least until the Blakists emptied most everything they could get their hands on in the Jihad.

Were towed gauss rifles a thing early into this franchise's history, or was it only in 2013 through MechWarrior: Dark Age - Sneak Peeks that towed gauss rifles became a part of the setting?
>>97300523They are, same with the buildings.
>>97301034They've had rules since Tac Ops which is 2008. I believe they were referenced earlier than that but never knew of them having rules before then.

Let's face it. Weapons need a rework across the board. Lasers are too good and ballistics are not worth their weight.
>>97302413yes, thank you for once again stating something everyone has been aware of for 30+ years
Making non gauss ballistics more resilient is a good in universe reason for them to stick around. The Cbill cost for energy weapons should be increased. An AC/10 and PPC shouldn't cost the same, with the AC/10 having higher lifetime costs due to ammo.
>>97302413There's no logical explanation why we can't use special ammo with UAC, and why 2 cluster sucks so much.
>>97302413>>97302507ACs have higher ROF than energy weapons, the AC5 is supposed to just chew through things. By default the 2 and 5 should always double tap and UAC should add an extra shot.

I'd check the old DA novels where they were using clicktech stuff like tankdrop memes.
>>97303004Has anyone effectively used Towed Artillery in their games before?
>>97303061Towed anything is known for being the cheapest BV guns in the game. There was a time when you could get 2 towed Gauss in a platoon for 750 and change BV2. HBS Battletech made ACs do 5, 9, 12 damage, and UAC always double taps. I'd say those buffs would be too much for tabletop,I made jagermech with 3 UAC5, it has enough ammo to shoot for 8 turns, barely any armour, alpha strike makes it shut down in 2 turns, but in tabletop terms it would deal 54 damage.
>>97303221I still think that ACs should be buffed by increasing their utility - always allow them to take half a bin in special ammo, give flak ammo the option to target missile flights within their firing zone - stuff like that. If you don't have a weapon system present in your lance, you can clown one up with the AC.
>>97303155You're welcome! And I can only write what they'll contract me for, so whether it's Word of Blake, or killing Clans, or another round of Nebula California stuff, it's all up to the bosses, as it always has been.
If no other weapons in that limb are fired, a mech can use an arm mounted machine gun as a makeshift AMS, -2 to the cluster roll, to a minimum of 2.
>>97303113Woops! Replied to wrong one! (This 4chan thing is new to me; sorry.Anyway, you're welcome for Ghosts! Happy Holidays for that! As to writing more for the Blakists or Clan-killing, that's up to what the bosses will pay me for, so no promises!
>>97303539Low-tier bait, you forgot the "- Herb" at the end of everything. The writing style is so obnoxious that it's not hard to replicate, Anon. Also Ghosts of Obeedah was indeed good and we need more Blakists back to scour Wolf from existence.

No major casualties, no internal strife, nothing.
Realistically, why can't UAC shoot special ammo? UAC 2 and 5 suck anyway. UAC20 with precision ammo sounds crazy, but it would require you to carry at least 6 tons of ammo. Make it like caseless ammo, only one type of ammo allowed because of a difficult feed mechanism.
>>97303982You would think the Nova Cats would be safer considering they killed the Combine LAM factory. It seems the brownie points they got from that did not outweigh the sins they accumulated from violating Tukayyid to do that.

Can you transport and/or recycle misjump-fucked germanium core?
>>97305380'The presence of another K-F drive coil, even a damaged one, within a certain proximity inhibits the correct formation of a K-F field. It is therefore impossible to move (jump) a fully assembled K-F drive as cargo or to recover a stranded JumpShip; unless they elect to scrap their drive coil, JumpShips must jump under their own power.' So I guess you can go in with tools and try and fuck up your already fucked drive coil so it has gone from 'non-functional' to 'its a lump of scrap' and then someone could arguably rescue you. Then it just counts as a lump of germanium infused scrap that you could probably sell off, but its absolutely no good as a core any more.
I've been in a daze these last few days, is there any sort of second head available for a dragon? Like a 3d printable bit or new model with options. or did I imagine all that in a dream?
>>97305447>but its absolutely no good as a core any more. That's actually one of the preferred ways to transfer them. It can be unfucked, but it's expensive and takes a while if I remember reading right
>>97305380IIRC cores either have to be melted down into of germanium pellets or hooked up to an external power source and jumped with no ship to be transported
>>97305380The two ways to transport a jump core is to build a jumpship shell around it programmed and charged by a real jumpship to leapfrog, or to chop it up and melt it down so it no longer counts as a core while being transported. Melting down and reforging a core is close to lossless, so it's perfectly viable as long as you have the tools to actually do that.

Is it possible to build new shipyards post helm? Like what prevents a resurgence of Jumpship construction?
>>97305326Pirates points change and need to be constantly recalculated. >>97305807There is a resurgence of Jumpship construction post-helm. It just doesn't get focused on too much because it's mostly civilian jumpships and Battletech mostly focuses on military gear. Not a big deal if there's more Merchants and Invaders around.
>>97305965>Not a big deal if there's more Merchants and Invaders around.Isn't keeping a large number of jumpships operational critical for hoilding the sphere together after Stone nukes the HPG network? I mean all your command and control has to be routed by Jumpship couriers at that point right?
>>97305977That's the point of everything being feudal. All of what would become the successor states (including the Terran Hegemony) developed without HPGs, and several interdictions proved that they wouldn't fall apart without them. It sucks to lose FTL comms, but they know how to handle it.
>>97305977Yes, and the resurgence in jumpship numbers in the time from Helm (3028) to the Blackout in the 3130s makes that possible.
>>97305965There is zero difference between a civilian and military jump ship.
>>97306002There's also zero difference between a civilian and military Mule, but spacecraft in general aren't the focus and tracking numbers of them is a fool's errand in a game about ground combat.Point is, original question has been answered: Nothing prevents a resurgence of jumpship construction, and it happens. >>97306572Also, looking into AToW, the Dragonsbane doesn't look like it's doing much better. It's got better armor piercing than the Mauser 1200, but worse damage. If you think that armor piercing is supposed to be helping you out more since it's an Elemental, you'd still be better served by a Zeus heavy rifle. 5 shots per magazine, similar penetration, better damage, easier to acquire, and won't instantly burn out after once use.
>>97306661The Dragonsbane does weigh less, so it fills the role of something like a LAW rather than a main weapon. You fire it and then dump it and pull out your actual gun just before whatever you fired the dragonsbane at points a flamer in your direction.

>>97306887It does .49 damage to the Zeus' .22. But it is a support weapon, so you can only have one or two per squad (and two slows you down significantly).Right now one of the biggest problems with infantry is that the TW stuff was more or less arbitrary, but when they actually made construction rules for Techmanual, they converted a bunch of RPG weapons using a shitty formula and made no effort to make the TW infantry legal under the new rules. TW infantry who just have one generic weapon and TM infantry that add up a bunch of fractions from both primary and support weapons are very different units.

>>97306856Everyone here is wrong about the Dragonbane; I knew it before but now I can prove it, so lets dive in to how wrong everyone is.Dragonbanes are Disposable Weapons, which mean they don't operate under the same rules as normal Support Weapons. Tac Ops Advanced Units and Equipment explains on page 116 that unlike normal support weapons, all troopers get disposable weapons. Additionally it goes on to say that once per scenario the Platoon may fire these Disposable Weapons dealing damage according to the number of hits on the cluster table based on the number of active troopers. The damage per hit will then be equal to three times its listed damage value per cluster hit. This means the Dragonbane, with a damage value of .49 will deal 1.47 damage per trooper as part of that volley attack, and thus if a platoon is killed down to a single man if he hits with that attack he deals 1 damage. It deals this damage out to three times the range of their auto rifles and won't slow down the infantry like normal support weapons.
>>97307070GHR-5N
>>97306885Genuinely grotesque, looks like a baki character.
>>97307071>will deal 1.47 damage per trooper as part of that volley attackThis makes a platoon equipped with it a phenomenal ambusher. I believe a standard foot platoon is 28 men which means if you haven't suffered casualties you could potentially shit out 41.16 in 2 point clusters. I assume it rounds down to 41?
>>97307093That is correct, though on an average roll (around a 7) you will be hitting with 17 for 25 damage, once again in 2 point clusters. You'll have around a 10% chance of hitting that maximum sized cluster on an 11 or 12.
>>97304739I faced and defeated a couple of Taurian swarthoids, yee.>>97295915>Has anyone had success fielding IS Standards or earlier in games?Yes. Both my Donegals and one of my merc units field them, they make excellent little support pieces, and bussing them up to an opponents big, slow, fire support unit is exceptionally fun.Usually though, I use Longinius mag-clamp ver, Gnomes and Elementals, or Fenrir.
>>97307071>>97306929Where's the .49 damage for the Dragonsbane coming from? I know Techmanual's had a fuck ton of errata and I can only find .16 for the Dragonsbane specifically.
>>97307093>>97307110You round up fractions. That 1.49 becomes 2. So it's 17 hitting for 34 damage.
Just posting my wip Blackjack for good luck. He did start off plum but I dry brushed him gold and now he's looking ready for a night at the casino.
>>97307199It's rounding to the nearest whole numbers, I think the break was specified in one of the books as .5 specifically
>>97307199Wait, your math is just wrong with no regard for any written rules
>>97307196I'm getting it out of Megameklab, but to be honest I also opened up AToW and the Companion and rederived it myself just to check the math. As a 5E/3B with Burst 15 and Shots 15, its Damage Factor is 19.5 and has a Piercing Factor of 1.25, which multiply to 24.375 which divides by 50 down to 0.4875, which we round to the second digit: 0.49.
>>97307224Alright, so Techmanual just doesn't have the right numbers because they don't use the right math yet? Would this technically be homebrew numbers since they're not the listed damage numbers yet? More asking because anyone who just opens the book and looks at the numbers will just use the official listed numbers.
>>97307205My bad, I usually use megamek to work it out for me.>>97306460So, long story short, there was a general belief that the UAC line of guns rendered the old autocannons obsolete (back then ultras made two to hit rolls and only jammed on snake eyes on the second shot), and double heat sinks effectively removed their niche. So special ammo was introduced for regular autocannons as a patch to give them a new role. Of course since then ultras have been nerfed (rolling on the cluster 2 table as opposed to make 2 to hit rolls) and the effect of DHS on energy weapon spam was greater than forseen.
>>97307235Okay, so I'm able to check these numbers and it's not good. So, the Light Machine Gun has the same damage as the Dragonsbane (roughly, 5B/3B with Burst 15).If we run the same equation for the LMG, we will get the same results in all areas except for its number of shots; which is 45. Number of shots applies to the reload factor, which WOULD make the reload factor of the Light Machine Gun 15... but Reload Factor caps at 1. Like the Dragonsbane, its equation should be:DF = 19.5, PF = 1.25 = 24.375 / 50, multplied by the reload factor of 1 and rounded to .49.For some reason, somebody has cut the Dragonsbane's damage to a third of that; suggesting to me somebody got lazy and tried to get the value from a weapon with the same equation changing only the reload factor (clearly a weapon with 15 rounds would have a third of the reload factor of a weapon with 45 rounds... would be a mistake someone made if they didn't realize the former would have had a reload factor of 5 and the latter 15 if they didn't both cap at 1).To make a long story short: The Dragonsbane should deal the damage of a Light Machine Gun, which is .49.
>>97307299The Dragonsbane is one shot, though. There wouldn't be a reload for the Dragonsbane because it's lenses and power pack are burned out.
>>97307303The reload factor doesn't have anything to do with whether or not it can be reloaded. It reflects downtime in the weapon's firing. A personal weapon has a reload factor of a tenth of its number of shots and support weapons have a reload factor equal to a third of its number of shots. What this basically means is "does the weapon have enough shots to fire 10 times/3 times in a round without stopping?" This is supported by the carve out for power-pack weapons that are said to have a reload factor of 1 because they always have shots as long as they have power.A one-shot weapon has no downtime, so its reload factor is 1. A light machine gun has ammunition enough to fire for longer than 10 seconds, so its reload factor is also 1.
>>97307323As an addendum, the Dragonsbane is a burst fire weapon that fires 15 times with a single use; matching the fire rate of the light machine gun. The fact it can only do it once is a separate matter.
Each Clan is militarily the equivalent of an Inner Sphere Great House. It took the entire Star League to knock out a single clan (Smoke Jaguar).
>>97307299Does damage calculation also take into account subweapons like on the Mauser lasers?
>>97307389Not separately no, in TW conversions they smooth out a lot of things; the only reason we were calculating the Dragonsbane is because it's relevant when using the Disposable Weapon rules from Tac Ops AW&E.It might be averaged in like a support weapon, but I don't know.
>>97306503Larpers, so yes
>>97307377That's complete horseshit and you know it. Every Clan pooling its military together would struggle to match the strength of just the FedCom mech line regiments. Factor in that when comparing strengths writers neglect to mention that a good chunk of the mech regiments are in fact RCTs and never include militia forces then the Clans are woefully disadvantaged. About the only thing the Clans have got going for them early on is they are more aerospace heavy than their IS counterparts and have ready access to warships. In the ground if you remove author fiat they'd realistically get creamed against a force thats not fucking around.
>>97307534A single cluster is enough to beat an RCT through the power of not writing out what actually happened and not thinking about it too hard.

Is the best defense against mechs by purely conventional forces massed LRMs with forward infantry spotters?
>>97307202I fucked up the cockpit on the blackjack a little and the wash on the centurion is a little much but I like em. I'll finish the cockpits when my fine brushes get here.
>>97307978No. Its massed artillery with hidden forward observers and/or ASF bombing the shit out of them. Assuming you count ASF as conventional and not as mech analogs.
>>97307196My copy of techmanual says .49
I want to paint mechs in GDI style. What paints should I use?
>>97308998Which version is that? There's the 2020 version and then a bunch of errata pages updating it. Is there another updated Techmanual that fixes the math?
>>97309172Mine is a 2007 Wizkids/Fanpro.
>>97309207That means that CGLs been using the bad math for a long while and in all of their updates
>>97309171Probably base white or a very light grey, then go ham with tan contrast and finally finish up weapons/joints with a metal color and wash everything with nuln oil.
I'm going to check out lgs Battletech night. I don't think they have too many players. I'm I've played a few games of classic and alpha strike with friends but my grasp on the rules is probably shaky. I've got some poorly painted 3d printed mechs and everything that comes with the alpha strike starter box. What should I expect? Should I bring my ghetto trees?
>>97308053>No. Its massed artillery with hidden forward observers and/or ASF bombing the shit out of them. Assuming you count ASF as conventional and not as mech analogs.I mean you could use conventional Combat Aircraft...
>>97309286I probably wouldn't bring the trees, personally. They'd only be useful if they play Alpha Strike and if they do, they most likely have all the terrain they need. I would check the stores social media and see if you could get in contact with the players to arrange an intro match or something.
>>97309247Steel legion drab?
>>97309521I'd say either Aggaros Dunes from GW...
>>97309552...or Wasteland Brown from the Vallejo Xpress line
>>97309171First, second or third Tiberium War?
>>97309452No socials that I'm aware of, maybe a discord. The guy at the store said just drop by which is more my style anyway. Even if I can't get in on a game I'd be happy to check it out and meet other players. I've never been to any kind of game night at a store, being a country boy. hope I don't get raped
>>97309752Tibsun, friend asked to paint his Dervish for campaign in GDI colours.
Yellow or Orange paint for salvage and repair IndustrialMechs and vehicles?
>>97309822Depending on what you pic as reference GDI is more like a darker desert DPM camo. Sort of an orange-yellow mixed with tan but I ain't the best with color names.
>>97307617I need to rewatch panzer world galient
>>97309959Yellow feels more like construction, orange feels like highway safety. Based off that I suggest orange, but I like both colors.
>>97309959You could also do the teal color they sometimes use in Asia.
>>97310648MIKU ROBOT SEX!
>>97309817If they try to rape you then you just shoot them?
>>97310648I've seen similar colorscheme in Europe as well, as well as a darker green. Also, wheeled cranes are quite often blue. I think the colors are often manufacturer-specific, even if some variant of yellow or orange is the most common. Caterpillar makes yellow industrial vehicles, but IIRC Atlas-Copco's mining vehicles are blue.
>>97309959Military or civilian? Military are still drab or tan, civilian just pick your favorite power tool brand and use their color
>>97310832rip HART, you were my favorite low-mid brand lithium battery family of powertools o7https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-Xrlf3taEo
There NEEDS to be a canon variant series of black knights that sport shields on one arm, and swords on the other, with all their weapons being torso energy, so when the shield or sword arms blown off, they can still zombie.Which necessitates sfe, light fe, or clan xlfe.
>>97311339>There NEEDS to be a canon variant series of black knights that sport shields on one arm, and swords on the other, with all their weapons being torso energy, so when the shield or sword arms blown off, they can still zombie.I mean you can pull it off with a BT-7-KNT pretty easily if you drop the Large Lasers, you can even keep the PPC in the right arm with the Sword.
>>97311339Wasn't one of the Clanbuster variants famously a Black Knight with a sword?
>>97307646But the tanks are in the background, how did he get there by his lonesome?>>97307670The design predates the rise of melee weapons. But customizing a Black Knight this way would make a good quest.>>97307672Elaborate?>>97307680If it is Comstar/Blakist why is it so primitive?>>97309989Interesting.
>>97311660>Wasn't one of the Clanbuster variants famously a Black Knight with a sword?Sword shaped Hatchet. One of the Red Reapers has a Vibrosword and Shield, but it has an XL Engine and all it's Medium X-pulse Lasers on the right side covered by the Shield...
New thread: >>97311847>>97311847
>>97311722>If it is Comstar/Blakist why is it so primitive? They aren't always going to be throwing their most advanced tech if they are on what would be essentially a survey mission. Hell that image features a Pike which was a favorite of Comstar despite being designed and built in the Periphery. Cavalry despite being antiquated does actually make a lot of sense if you are doing some reconnaissance since they can still be used in terrain that is unforgiving to most other forms of transport.
>>97306866Oooooh, cute! I see what you did there! But doesn't really sound like me. Nice try, though.- Herb
