Pros: no immortality

Cons: way too long, bloated with like 10 pages of video game combat skills that are boring to read through

nu D&D brainrot, muh oaths

Warcraft brainrot, muh "light," no gods

oaths are crippling geas, enjoy being able to do nothing in exchange for power

you'll never be anything more than a sidekick to the companions who are stronger than you can ever be anyway

oaths don't even matter though because you can just redeem yourself if you break one, isn't that easy

Verdict: it's shit but at least Tok can't play it

so what does actually do it for you then if its not the wings, the holyness, the alieness, the fact that theyre actually more like automatons if we go by biblical standards, the holier than thou side to them, like what is it about them that makes it so it specifically has to be "angel" women and not a woman with wings or just a woman or smth

>>97316470
I don’t agree with many of the cat’s points, but I do think it’s worth mentioning a ton of choices are duplicative and I feel as though the oaths incentivize building for direct confrontations. That doesn’t even consider there are several insta-win techniques with a variety of conditions that make some actually pointless and the others much stronger due to a lower bar of execution

>The CYOA is urban sci-fi as you take on the role of a 3rd Generation Psychic living in a strangereal 199X, decades after the previous generations caused a dark age/world domination, and restructured society around the influence of Psychics that can imprint their will on the world.
>The CYOA is set in Metropolis and its surrounding areas, imagine it as a mega city built on another city, a Tokyo mixed with Kowloon City. It's dominated by Psychics thanks to the NWO presence/investments and fictional entities that are making a mess of reality in its more seedy/under-managed parts. While this is going, you have Psychics acting as humanity's elite by becoming celebrities, criminal syndicates, duelist, clubs, etc.
>The main goal of the CYOA is to get your unique Psychic Powers, your Extrasensory Perceptions, and decide what to do with your life as a youth in a big unpredictable megalopolis.

Who even asked for this CYOA? Who is the audience? Why would anyone want a CYOA set in the 90s?

>I should explain that:
>1. Psychic Power = Unique powers that are unique to each Psychic's view of the world and how their brain imprints itself on the world, this cannot be replicated by others because it's defined by the person that experienced the world.
>2. Extrasensory Perception = Sub-powers that allows you impact the world in some form, but doesn't involve the complete invoking of your innate power and lets you get away with feats. These can be learned by others if they find someone to teach them or they are big brain enough to make them..

The power system is chalked already.
>>
>>97316809
>Who even asked for this CYOA? Who is the audience? Why would anyone want a CYOA set in the 90s?
CYOAG did, I remember someone asking questions about a psychic cyoa a couple months ago, and this is mostly what anons said they wanted to see
>>
>>97316774
Very cohesive, all eastern, all kung-fu oriented. The only thing questionable here is the color-palette, but they each accentuate their options in an aesthetically pleasing and congruent way. It isn't the best by any means but it is far from ugly.

>>97316783
My heart sinks to tell you this, but Fang Wenyan is more flagrantly metrosexual than the San Francisco public transit. For some reason I can't get a connection to upload a screencap, but his character image and text speak for themselves.
>>
>>97316831
But did they want a chalked power system where you can ONLY have ONE power? Huh, powercuck?
>>
>>97316774
Yea man, the catholic nun/magical girl in black and white and the blue vampire definetly look "eastern" and martial arts oriented.

The sum of the cohesion is "its anime style art", but at that point the bar is in hell and you would need to actively try make a non-cohesive cyoa
>>
>>97316849
>aesthetically pleasing and congruent
you are off your rocker m8
>>
>>97316853
No, that's why they asked for the ESP thing to exist. So they can still learn other sub-powers even if they only have 1 main one.
Actually it might have been the author that took initiative there, but anons not wanting to only have 1 power is why ESP powers are a thing.

My Build

>>97316433

Universal Sovereign+Mind Splitting+Transfiguration means I can create as much clones as I need anytime I have some extra aura lying around. US grants infinite soul lifespan, Transfiguration takes care of vessel creation, while mind splitting enables creation of clones and phylacteries. This should make me incredibly hard to kill completely, as I’d have hundreds of clones operating everywhere. The key combat capability of this build however hinges in the combo of Unbinding of Abyss Lord+Universal Sovereign. When both are activated, I am able to empower my abyssal lord summon, and also use fusion summon to become an abyssal lord myself. Since I can have multiple clones that share my aura and abilities, they too can fuse with their own Abyssal Lord Summon.

Resilience gives me the capability to withstand the Abyssal Lords' madness head on in case I lose control over them or need to fuse with them. Besides taking Universal Sovereign as a signature should make the fusion summon safer, stronger and cheaper in aura cost in general imo. The Abyss Lords seems diverse enough that I can probably find one for any situation I might need, but the empowerment from Universal Sovereign also means that each of them would be stronger and constantly regenerating from damage.

My job is a surveyor selling stuff I find to the Catacombs, Senguru and the Majushin. Koha in particular is my main liaison with the rest of the Majushin, and I place some of my clones inside their turtle islands as well. My affiliations tend to remain secret, as I am an outlaw that can be hunted down freely for dabbling with dangerous abyssal monsters. I live in Limbo where I can easily hide from the authorities, and even set traps against enemies that tries to hunt me down using my legend tactic capability.

I will use my split clones to explore, gather information and loot, and if my clones get destroyed I can always make more later.

If you were given the choice of who could be the final boss of your adventure, would you accept a few points for rolling who the final boss is after making your build?
The main reason would be so people don't just build with the idea to only counter who that will be and will make the stronger builds more original. Or would it be pointless and just make it so people go for the biggest numbers possible?

nta but what they meant was that ono is the worst waifu cause she kinda is given how utterly incompetent and bratty she is

mai on the other hand, i will admit its off putting for her to be that into sex but it is to an extent understandable given various factors like her age and lack of previous romance

i will say its interesting for people to see super model tier bodies and call them obese pigs, its like youve never seen what obesity actually is just what the magazines want you to think obesity is so they can sell you weightloss and beauty drugs, unless youre reffering to her ample chest and hips/ass in which case, i know some people prefer flat over stacked or medium but this is just absurd

No, they're not at all how geas work.
>enjoy being able to do nothing in exchange for power
The oaths are not particularly restrictive.
>you'll never be anything more than a sidekick to the companions who are stronger than you can ever be anyway
We've been other this (Dawn excluded), the companions stack up perfectly fine against the things you can build.
>oaths don't even matter though, because you can just redeem yourself if you break one, isn't that easy
If redeeming yourself were easy, you wouldn't have broken your oath in the first place.

>>97317504
"I will work for good" means that you have to always be actively able to say, "as it stands right now, I am actively doing good where I am in life". This can mean you stay in one place, if being there/in that community is doing actual meaningful good. Yes.
"I am not a god" is less about active humility (although that virtue definitely helps with the oath) and more about the fact that the powers given shouldn't be used in selfish ways; they exist to allow you to help others, rather than pursue personal goals and ambitions (meaning for example: getting yourself positions of power, making yourself rich, living a life of hedonism instead of doing good). It does not mean you cant use your wings to cross a puddle "because thats for personal gain", but it does mean you shouldnt use your powers to become a star athlete or beat people at races for prize money.

You want things for a reason. Removing the "want" for something inevitably leads down the road of nihilism. Why exist if not for the pleasure of existing? You dont have to inflict pain upon other beings. But every single "faith" or "philosophy" that practices anti attachment discipline is at its heart nihilistic and you might as well an hero then.

What power do you mean by "universal scaling"? Equilibrium? Soulfire? Either way, theyre a good bit more expensive than Blessed Totem (and somewhat situational), and offer far less help outside combat (which is a given, considering one isnt a combat power while the others are, there's multiple "utility" powers that offer no assistance at fighting, but help a paladin do good in other ways - I didnt want to force people to go be "cosmic cops" if they don't want to, they can go do more mundane helping people things if they want).
But I won't deny that there's probably some powers that could use some tweaking on the balance front (soulfire and divine judgement are probably the big ones).

It got me wondering. Anons!
Which is better:

>A
Cape setting based on our Earth, where everything supernatural has a single origin
Examples: Worm by Wildbow, the Harbinger CYOA by 53413760

>B
Cape setting based on our Earth, where there's a dizzing variety of reasons someone or something may end up supernatural
Examples: all the big comic book cape settings like Marvel, DC and Invincible

As for me,
I'm very pro-A, but I imagine american anons who actually grew up on comic books lean pro-B?

Because Hulk is actually empowered by The One Below All, gamma radiation is just the catalyst. Also there are plenty of hulk clones in marvel like red hulk, she-hulk, abomination, etc...

They're often poorly coded and prone to bugs despite it being so simple. They change the layout and pacing of image CYOA. Also, the interactive exclusive CYOA are poorly made and feature lots of bloat and poor decisions like NSFW sections to choose height weight and dick size while penalizing you in points + by the time you get 40% through one some bug happens and the entire webpage shits the bed and needs to be reloaded.

They're shit, in other words. The exclusive OCs are also shit.

Why would you?
Such a question could only be conceived out of naïvety. To ask such a question... the only conclusion that I can reach... is that your understanding of the thread must be nonexistent.
Tell me, would you allow a plague to enter your village, knowing full well that it would lead to the death of your neighbors? Family, those whom you hold dear? Unless you truly are a fool, you would not. A threat to your livelihood should not be ignored. It most certainly should not be shown even a single iota of mercy.
Doing so would be dangerous, and dare I say, even selfish.

https://mamick.neocities.org/system/cyoa
It's an update of an old one. After some complaints on reddit the author put a button there that gives you average score, as if that's somehow making it fair, before you were forced to play them. Also they are drawbacks, you need to both play the minigame and pay the price of the drawback for the points. They are just below the difficulty section, called difficulty modifiers, I don't know if there are more later.
I played all 4 to see what they are, the answer is shit.

In a setting where multiple races exist, for humans to not have gone extinct they would have to excel at something at least. Play on the endurance we are actually known for in the animal kingdom, at least.

in seriousness doe probably either dragons cause strength, angels if you go elitism, or automatons cause versatility as automatons can be whatever shape you want them to be and can do whatever you want them to

personal answer doe lizardmen will always be supreme but thats a heavily biased answer

Oh. Well, reading >>97318804 as well, humans are the best ones yeah. Just think about it, you can excel in something, but then they could just do a good-enough job at whatever you suck at fighting against. While you excel in woodsmithing or plant shit, they'll excel in technology, medical care to treat infection, etc etc. You'll need two excelling races to be able to properly combat humans, so if you pair humans with two excelling races, you have a dough that fills in niches that the others cannot.

Anons tend to pick magic options in favor of endurance or agility and the like (because they think they're smart (they're wrong)). It doesn't help that most CYOAs don't explain how magic works so everyone assumes it's basically "point at a mundane guy and he dies". How would you balance magic options with something like, say, peak human strength and durability or extremely good skill? More importantly, how would you write magic to make sure no retard would think it's an instant "I win" button?

replace magic with guns and artillery, if you cant balance your melee and whatnot classes or loadouts against that then you cant against mages who can do even more like altering the terrain or making an army appear out of thin air
>>
>>97318719
Humans of course, though dwarfs are a close second
>>
>>97318944
clarification on my own post, its not that i think magic should be an instant i win button and always the strongest option or whatever, personally id really like it if knights and martial artists and whatnot are able to compete pretty well against them, especially as i tend to really like the heavy armored knight concept

what i am saying is that magic and mages in many cases is rather comparable to an artillery squadron or even a battalion depending on various things, and just like irl, such things rather quickly become king of the battlefield without some kind of superhuman physicality or smth to compete with them

im not accounting for air raid bombings or naval artillery or what have you cause thats more comparable to stuff like large scale ritual magic or the use of magic airships and whatnot, which usually require many people working together to build and get running, rather than regular magic which only needs the one dude, usually

>>97318999
Anon... armies of soldiers with personal weapons weren't replaced by armies consisting only of artillerymen.
>>
>>97319064
well yes but were talking about balancing physicality against mages that act like artillery, yes you need regular soliders in order to capture and hold territory and occasionally you can find soldiers being able to deal with artillery encampments, but usually you dont find singular mages running in and taking a fort(unless theyre like invulnerable or smth) usually they have minions do that, but lets put it this way, a single soldier is very unlikely to be able to take on an entire artillery battalion especially starting from the artilleries preffered range, its comparable to the soldier versus the mage, so essentially figure out what the soldier or whatever would need to take down an artillery battalion, and youll start to get an idea of whats needed to make the soldier comparable to the mage, yes im counting stuff like magic kryptonite in there cause it can kinda work like if you jam the radios of the artillery and can mess with their rangefinders and whatnot, kinda, not exact but nothing ever is

(In this case, the "artillery batallion" is compressed to the body of a single person, so there's no extra bodies to win in a scuffle etc <- I assume that's what you meant)
If on one side you have a soldier with an assault rifle, and on the other side an artilleryman who somehow operates a howitzer alone, then - I am no military buff but wouldn't the guy with the rifle win? A howitzer is obviously not meant for that. Doubly so if it has only one shot, as in your example (where the wizard can only blow up castle gates, and then he's finished for the fight).

Do you even know how the no killing rule started?
The no killing rule started because comic book companies needed a villain of the week, and they found out that if you get rid of your villain every other week it actually makes it pretty expensive to hire character designers to make another villain. that's why the no killing rule exist, so they can do reprints of the same villain.
This is where it's going to be really funny to me.
If you get your semblance of like morality from comic book characters and you think the no killing rule is actually something that you should be taking seriously, I just wanted to let you know your moral compass is influenced by a fucking corporation running out of characters.
>>
>>97319305
Heroes exist in cape worlds because they have convictions and sufficient belief in their capacity to achieve them. Far and few inbetween, of course. This is acknowledged by a lot of cape settings having a hero/villain ratio sided towards the villains, who in turn don't receive support from society and governments as a whole.
>>
>>97319356
I prefer the explanation that heroes don't kill because they want to look sympathetical to normal people. If you kill someone, and it turns out you were actually wrong in doing so, then it'll fuck things up astronomically for you because:
1. Now you're an element they need to keep under control (for their image if not public safety)
2. It tarnishes the image of every other capetard who cares out there (the ones who don't are probably lunatics)
3. You're now in the shitlist of said capetards because you couldn't keep your edgy little impulses under control.
The only thing that can keep a capefaggot in check, is another capefaggot.

how often does that actually happen tho? if a supervillain is openly hostile to civilians and everyone knows who he is and what he is doing a classic comic hero would just subdue him, and the will find a way to escape and eventually terrorize the people once again, if i was a citizen i would just want the hero to annihilate the problems once and for all
>>
>>97319575
>if a supervillain is openly hostile to civilians and everyone knows who he is and what he is doing
Therein lies the key difference: everyone knows the circumstances and what he should be held accountable for. And that's why you don't go on a mass crime-killing spree like a retard playing a first person shooter. You very well could kill a supervillain doing some pesky shit, and it turns out to be a teenager with a kill count of exactly 0.

The super scientists and magicians can probably become immortal if they wanted to, and if they did try something bad would probably happen because Western storytelling is still stuck on "seeking immortality is bad" and "Immortality is a curse, actually." However, it's entirely within their capability. Whether anyone else can depends on their powers; some have it for free, some could probably do it if they wanted to, and others are stuck asking other people to make them immortal.

i mean, its kinda twofold here, usually stuff like immortality gets used as a means to have some kind of moral lesson about something like how it usually is with raz al ghul, however if you actually go through the various things in comics youll find there are probably a bunch of ways to attain some form of immortality without needing to worry about much, just spitballin here but one villain became able to rewrite genetics on the fly and this could be used to make people biologically immortal or to cure cancer or smth but instead they use it to turn people into dinosaurs, theres also like actual magic that one could feasibly learn that could maybe do it with the right preparations and enough effort, theres high technology all over the place that can be used for all kinds of things, infact theres an ironman story where tony starts using some of that to make a subscription service for being pretty or hot (yes tony was becoming a villain in this arc but eh)

theres feasibly a bunch of ways you could maybe achieve some form of immortality so long as you dont become a villain and dont let yourself become the moral story of the week, so long as you know whats going on in the setting youre doing the cape stuff in, same with how there are some things you definitely want to avoid in various cape settings like kryptonite exposure in dc, while the stuff can weaken kryptonians like superman if youre exposed to it for too long it can apparently give you cancer as thats what happened to lex luthor once iirc

All popular heroes/villains are immortal in a narrative sense. Batman has been in the prime of his life since the 40s for example.
>>
>>97322149
technically theres batman beyond which is set in the future and has batman as like really old so a new character has to come in and take up the mantle and be trained to do so by the old bruce wayne, apparently the series was pretty good and well received by batman fans, especially how rather than just reskins of batmans old villains they tried making a bunch of new villains insteadsome of batmans old villains do still make cameo's doe like bane or raz al ghul

>dont let yourself become the moral story of the week
You're asking for the impossible, please remember that you're speaking to an anon

Care to name a few supervillains that attained immortality? Because the only one I can think of is Mister Sinister.

You could have immortality an option in exchange for making you infertile. That way cape children won't be growing up in nightmarish psychotic villain families unless they get kidnapped.
Heroes would have extra motivation then to stop villains, because the sickest of them always try to groom harems of loyal empowered wives out of their daughters. Imagine the shitfest that would happen if there was multiplayer option as well...

Raz until the story doesn't want him to
Lex could do it but that's not the story the company wants to tell
Doom could do it but that's not the story the company wants to tell
Stegron could do it but like anon said here >>97322103 he wants to turn people into dinosaurs instead
The only thing that makes Sinister special there is that he wasn't used as a moral lesson/it was included in his backstory so it was slightly harder for the writers to just ignore it later
>>
>>97322188
nta but theres a few even i know like raz and mordred and some others, the thing here is usually it ends up being that they get stripped of their immortality in some way so they can be defeated by the hero or atleast turned into the moral story of the week, or it turns into a story of this person trying to maintain a failing immortality and how it makes them into a villain like with raz who spoilers ||even ended up basically killing his own daughter just to get to live a little longer||

welp thats not how you do spoilers i guess

Anon I literally explained in that post that the tags would have worked if I did it differently. As in I was trying to fuck it up to make an example. That said I was trying to include a functional spoiler in the post too, but it got fucked because of one of the more arcane rules. As an example using capitalized tags to get it to not delete itself,

>Why would you need even more money when you are automatically part of 1%
just look at irl billionaires lol
villains would do anything for a few million more
banks would have to store tons of physical paper money again due to mad genius super villains easily stealing electronic currencies
banks would be built to delay super thieves for as long as possible until the superheroes backed by the wealthy showed up

>Lex could do it but that's not the story the company wants to tell
>Doom could do it but that's not the story the company wants to tell
I doubt it. There are multiple instances in DC and Marvel where heroes from the far future travel back in time, and vice versa, with no one having cracked the immortality question. If Lex, Doom, and people in the future can't make themselves immortal, it would be arrogant to think that you could gain immortality on your own in their settings.

>>97322240
>Ra's al Ghul
Raz is not immortal his Lazarus pits extend life, but not indefinitely.
>Mordred
He did not attain immortality by himself, it was his mother who cast a spell to make him eternally young.

>If Lex, Doom, and people in the future can't make themselves immortal, it would be arrogant to think that you could gain immortality on your own in their settings.
Read the second part of that
Marvel scientists have created actual portals to afterlives and both of them have accomplished much more impressive feats than simple biological immortality. The reason they don't become immortal is that their companies don't want to write those stories, so they just don't try. Unlike anons, most fictional characters aren't obsessed with becoming immortal, and most of those who are get used as a moral lesson because "seeking Immortality is bad" and "Immortality is a Curse"
>>
>>97322058
>How many superheroes in fiction have attained immortality by themselves? Mister Sinister? Anyone else?
Does Mister Sinister really count? His power is genetic manipulation, so his immortality comes from his power and isn't something he attained himself. But if Mister Sinister counts, then I guess Elixir also counts. He has biokenisis, so it was really easy for him to gain immortality from his power.
>>
Isn't Vandal Savage immortal? I think that's the only thing he has going for him superpowers-wise anyway
>>
>>97322365
We were still going off
>>97322058
>attained immortality by themselves?
Pretty sure Vandal Savage lucked into his immortality in most continuities
>>
>>97322058
There are tons of superheroes and supervillains with immortality/eternal youth, but there are barely a handful who attained their immortality by their own efforts and not as part of their own power.
>>
>>97322342
>"Immortality is a Curse"
Curious how this (mostly)only applies when it's a mortal that becomes immortal, it tends to not be brought up as much around natural immortals
It's almost always a skill issue too, unless the immortality just sucks ass

I think Harbinger should be the OP for next thread.

If only there was a way for you to assure that exactly that will be the case... if only...

Harbinger is nice. The only issue with it is the existance of magic and inventing.

>>97322408
No, the real issues are the points and stats.

>>97322402
Too much effort.
