>>97330846>Lorwyn Eclipsed, best set of all time or just best set of the last 3 years? Its really hard to get into this when no one really knows or cares about the characters. Ive been playing MTG for a long time. My first product was the Blast from the Past precon. I asked my playgroup if theyd heard of Oko and I showed them the full art card. The guy who plays Tifa at our table nearly puked he was so upset about the art. No one has heard about Oko or really knows anything about him. Someone recognized him as a character from OTJ which seems correct. I guess hes kind of the new Loot and hes just going to be shoehorned into various planes now starting with Lorwyn. Do you ever think about how in the magic universe some wizard can design an object of arcane power to produce mana indefinitely but for all practical purposes he’d have been better off with just a really huge pile of gemstones?
>>97331068>Doesn't ban blatant pie breaks like permanent blue removalWhats the point of your hypothetical format again?
>>97331689I think that from what we've seen, "a really huge pile of gemstones" is some treasures, and the mana producing gems are something particularly special. also (We) are in a very different frame of reference for mana access and spending than people within planes.
>>97331689You can't just go with any random gem. Stuff like moxes are rare, why do you think planeswalkers were fighting over them and other mana-rich regions left and right? The best way to get mana is mana-bonding with lands. It's efficient, it's reliable, and most importantly, it's the simplest and easiest method, there's a good reason every single plane arrives at it on their own.
>>97331740>Constantly fightingThe one and only real resource conflict in MtG history was Brothers' War.>PhyrexiansBecause they're ebil and want to turn the world chrome>EldraziBecause they're ebil and want to turn the world colorless>VulvamothBecause he's ebil and wants to turn the world into low-income housing>BolasBecause he's sexually repressed and wants to get fucked by Ugin
>>97331381
>>97331783There were more conflicts then these, you know. There was a whole thing with Jared Carthalion and Kristina of the Woods fighting Ravidel over a bunch of moxes. There was the whole war in Madara over leylines because Bolas (then an oldwalker) was so powerful he couldn't even manifest without powerful terrain. The Kami War in Kamigawa started because Konda stole a huge chunk of mana from the kami realm, Memnarch was building a gigantic machine to harness the fifth sun of Mirrodin in an attempt to give himself a spark, on and on and on...Hell, even the War of the Spark was only possible because Bolas invaded Amonkhet beforehand, *specifically* to get his hands in a resource that would allow for his plan (lazotep).
>>97331709>>97331740No but youre not understanding. You can make something like an Arcane Signet right, and get 1 colored mana pretty regularly indefinitely right? But you don’t NEED indefinite mana. Treasure can give you 1 colored mana. So instead of investing arcane energies into crafting an Arcane Signet, a big old pile of gem stones would probably meet most of your magical needs

>>97332030Everyone is losing their shit about this card in CEDH. So this is number 1.43 dollars and its not even released.
>>97332089yeah I'd definitely put that in the top 3 for sure
>>97331846getting mana from a treasure is an abstraction for resources you're paying/extracting/etc from the equivalent of "a pile of money"also, notably, it only works once while permanent mana rocks give you recurring resources.thus, why would you try and invent the next sky diamond or sol ring (canonically the entire power packed taste of sunny D in a single artifact)? because they provide the abstracted equivalent of treasure every ""turn."" this is "why would I invest instead of spending my money"we don't know how long a turn is meant to be, even if you pretend it's a planar year or something, that's still one <pile of treasure> equivalent of mana a year.

>>97332089CEDH interest doesn't dictate card prices, it's only a tiny subsect of EDH players, similar to how trannies are only a tiny subsect of the general global population
>>97332180I mean it kinda does but only indirectly. Commander players have no self-control and try to run as many busted cards as possible, and cEDH expects you to run every busted card. Now I don't think this particular card will end up very expensive because it only works in settings where the only available form of interaction is stack interaction (i.e. cEDH and nowhere else), but it is a bit interesting to think about.

>>97332353Yes.>707.2. When copying an object, the copy acquires the copiable values of the original object’s characteristics and, for an object on the stack, choices made when casting or activating it (mode, targets, the value of X, whether it was kicked, how it will affect multiple targets, and so on). The copiable values are the values derived from the text printed on the object (that text being name, mana cost, color indicator, card type, subtype, supertype, rules text, power, toughness, and/or loyalty), as modified by other copy effects, by its face-down status, and by “as . . . enters” and “as . . . is turned face up” abilities that set power and toughness (and may also set additional characteristics). Other effects (including type-changing and text-changing effects), status, counters, and stickers are not copied.Legendary is a supertype, and thus copyable, and Spark Double sets it to non-legendary, which would get copied by other clone effects.

How does Cryptek work with Platinum Angel? Its a delayed trigger, so if someone wraths while you are at -100 what happens?>cryptek taps and activates in response to wrath>platinum angel is gets the delayed trigger>wrath resolves>P angel dies, delayed trigger goes on the stack>lose because you are at -100Is that right?
>>97333388I believe that is correct, SBA will see that you're dead before the trigger resolves.
>>97333138yea I mean its early to really have an overview over some of the sets card prices but you must be mentally ill or have too much money to buy collector boosters
>>97333388yes, cryptek and all of those other effects (undying evil, the auras that do this, etc) create a trigger that goes on the stack. like every other trigger, it goes on the stack, state based actions are checked, then everyone gets priority, and it resolves once everyone passes. you die once SBAs realize you're negative.

Got another two hour control game in with this deck. Hard to get a good litmus of how the deck was actually doing as I landed a turn 4 smothering tithe that just never left the board, but it was satisfying playing draw-go for an entire slog of a game.Had out Counterbalance with Scroll Rack, Opposition to tap down aggro creatures, and repeated flicker/bounce to recycle creatures that counter on ETB. But I would've liked to see a game where the table realized sooner what was happening and tried to actually break out. A lot of selfish board development plays that made them easy to single out.
>>97332859This one? I haven't updated it in a while at this point, but have a whole stack of cards on my desk that I really need to evaluate as possible additions.
WIZARDS OF THE COAST HAS RELEASED THE IDEAL SKELETON TRIBAL COMMANDERIt's even an enchantment in the command zone instead of a creature, making it resistant to removal.HOWEVERIt's a mechanically unique Secret Lair commander. Additionally, it's part of Secret Lair commander PRECON, with 95 cards that you already own. Only 4 cards (other than the commander) have unique art, and these are the only cards worth any money and these are the only cards you don't own.Additionally, it's a Universes Beyond secret lair drop for some furry shit like Twokinds (but with skeletons to celebrate black pride month and mexican day of the dead or something). Only the commander card and the 4 money cards even have Universes Beyond art, so the deck isn't even thematically consistent. You purchasing? How bad do you want that skeleton commander, bro?
>>97334063Proxy with doot doot skeltal as the art.
>>97334063>It's a mechanically unique Secret Lair commander.Who cares? I'll proxy it anyway

>>97334078>>97334096>>97334107>>97334136Unfortunately, due to poor sales and poor reception, wotc has decided that people just aren't interested in skeletons as a tribe. As part of their continued effort to reduce the number of creature types, Skeletons have been errata'd to Zombies. On the bright side, you now have a ton of generically strong cards you can put into your Zombie deck.
>>97334154The issue with skeletons is that they aren't a real tribe and would need to be rebuilt from stage 1. There is little reason to play skeletons over zombies.
>>97334154>Skeletons have been errata'd to ZombiesDon't even joke about that.
>>97334154You need to actually give us skeletons in the first place before you can not have sales.
>>97334158I think the current standard deck of skeletons-as-token (like a black saproling) is the best iteration they've had as a unified tribe FACT
>>97334154>Skeletons have been errata'd to Zombies...good? That makes skeletons playable.

Can Arcane Signet and Felwar Stone create colorless mana?

>>97334269No. Colorless mana is colorless. Duh.
>>97333505I remember. Everyone hated Lorwyn for a reason. Everyone deluded themselves and retconned history, pretending it was a beloved block and plane when it absolutely never was. It was also hated for introducing Planeswalker cards.

>>97333570It absolutely is though. Retard!
>>97334323I distinctly remember everyone also hating the flavor, the weird tribes, the art direction, and everyone whined about it being underpowered with boring mechanics. The block was hated more than Kamigawa.

>>97331270I've wanted to make a reaper king deck for a while but had no clue how to make one with how weak and limited the creatures were on average. It seemed like having spells that turn all your creatures into scarecrows and summoning tokens might be more effective.

>>97334515>eerie was disappointing and mostly on blue cardsAs a red-inclusive enchantress fag, I cannot express how mad I was that they had a single red Eerie card and they couldn't even be fucked to have it be an Impact Tremors variant. And this after THB had no red Constellation cards at all!
>>97334597It's stupid wotc is removing shaman for being racist to native Americans when shaman originated from a Siberian word and there are shamans all over the world from every race, including Africans and European blond blue eyed white Samis. It really shows how ignorant and racist WotC is. By trying to be inclusive they reveal their own bigotry.
>>97334611Shaman is still in the errata? are you high or baiting?
>>97334593Yes I need more of them, especially in 2cmc range.
>>97334606>Redundancy is suddenly a bad thing in singleton?retards wouldn't be hating on tutors otherwise
>>97334597
>>97334526>face of some french fag>elf wearing glasses, in a magical world no less>flavour text has to have the name of said "pro" player
>>97334239Zombies>Wet>FleshySkeletons>Dry>BonyIf there's no meaningful difference between skeletons and zombies, then why not errata all zombies into skeletons? Every zombie got a skeleton in them, but not every skeleton got flesh hanging off them
>>97334634Wotc is replacing Shaman with the Sorcerer subtype for new cards. They aren't changing old shaman cards due to the previous Shaman tribal cards that have already been printed, you filthy casual zoom zoom.
>>97334611>when shaman originated from a Siberian word Yep.> there are shamans all over the world from every raceAnd you've put your foot in it. The vocabulary issue is actually that a lot of those races object to the use of the term "shamanism" to refer to their practices when it comes from a specific culture to which they don't belong. It gets even messier because the practices traditionally grouped by anthropologists as indicative of shamanism can also be found in non-shamanic contexts--it's an incredibly broad list more or less used to justify lumping anything outside of Abrahamic/Dharmic/Shinto/Taoist as "not REALLY a religion".>tl;drThe controversy over the term "shaman" isn't about it being offensive to depict them, it's about the fact that most "shamans" would prefer to be called "priests".
>mfw wotc will never do Shaman King collab because it's not Sorcerer King
>>97334659On the plus side, a Dark Sun set is looking more and more likely
>>97334634removing shaman nerfs it and wotc doesn't do power level errata anymore>are you high or baiting?no you're just a retard standing up for yet another dumb wotc move
>>97334658incorrect, it's because when wotc thinks of tribes and shamans they think of da injuns
>>97334674Can't forget totem as well.
>>97334658>it's about the fact that most "shamans" would prefer to be called "priests".>won't anyone please think of the minorities? stop stereotyping them!ok lib
>>97334647I bought one of these when they were way cheaper. I have one in Baral/Kari atm but Im going to remove it probably cause it doesn't seem to do much for me on average
>>97334674Anon, this is an actual controversy in anthropological circles. Yes, it is absurd that it has breached containment and threatened the blessed sanctity of our children's card game, but the way in which it's "racist" to use the term is in applying it to practices inspired by groups that reject it. While it was before WotC bought TSR, it's also the case that D&D has a particularly bad history with the term--the 2E Shaman supplement had as its big secret that the spirit world doesn't really exist and it's just a figment of mortals' imaginations.
>>97334701Don't give a single fuck about satanic third worlders.
>mfw wizards will censor the word magic because it's haram in Islam
>>97334701>the 2E Shaman supplement had as its big secret that the spirit world doesn't really exist and it's just a figment of mortals' imaginations.
>Mfw wizards will censor the word gathering during the net pandemic
>>97334679Let me be clear: I think it's retarded to retire shaman as a creature type. This is a fantasy game about a fantasy world with fantasy practices, none of which should be assumed to have any bearing on real-world faiths. I just happen to be aware of the long-running argument on this particular issue, which has been going on for something like two decades now.It annoys me greatly when people present false narratives about things I disagree with because those just serve as an excuse to ignore legitimate objections and arguments against those things. My autism simply won't let me remain silent.
