Bloody Rose or Ebon Chalice?
>>97345900Ebon chalice is kino
I realized today that I run way too many characters. My CSM has a Lord, a Daemon Prince, an Apostle, a Master of Executions, a Master of Possessions, a regular Sorcerer and a Terminator Sorcerer. It's like I have some compulsion to make sure every squad has a leader.
Let Chaos idols take this thread!

>>97345905ogey
>>97345917For me it's symmetry. I always want either just 1 of everything or 2 of everything. Never 1 of this unit and 2 of that unit.
Why are agents even an army when they are almost unplayable in the main game?
Eldar are a bunch of washed up losers and should be deleted from the setting
>>97345951they were designed with 11e in mind
I'm trying to figure out how to do my OC Chapter's iconography, Does anybody have a good guide to Space Marine iconography? I'm doing them as a Dark Angels successor, so I'd love a DA guide, but the Codex one and other variant Chapters would be great tooThanks
>>97345917Considering leaders are one of the most reliable ways to give your units buffs this edition because wargear/enhancements are the way that they are it’s probably fine. Maybe, if you wanted to alleviate the character bloat, expand the army around the characters. Like have a 500 point chunk that follows that one character, a different character has a different 500 points he leads and they combine forces for larger battles.
>>97345900Blood rose. If kino was a color it'd be red
are demon still going to be in 11th? them being a "one in two" army sharing almost all with AoS is pretty fun (and cost saving for people playing both)
Humanity are a bunch of washed up losers and should be deleted from the setting
>>97345998Still waiting on your models btw
>>97345973Yeah, that's a good idea. I think I need to expand my collection non-character wise so I can change my list up and not be running the exact same army every game.Using each leader as a thematic building point will help.
>>97345953Eldar are an abused and battered race that should be given comfort and affection. Farseers would have far more accurate prophecies if they had someone gave them a hug before their rituals.
>>97345951They're a kitbash army. And a supplemental kitbash army meant to be ran alongside a preexisting imperial force. It's sortve like how you would never want a caterham super 7 as your only car because it has no roof, no airbags, no bumpers, no ac, no heating and no windows. But if you already own an suv or a more practical car that let's you do your errands in comfort, suddenly the downsides of a tiny death trap vehicle aren't quite as much of an issue because your daily driver is a practical one.

Newfag to making minis, I think I fucked up. How do I get this shit off of my model? Will the primer/paint cover it? I think I cut too far above the model because I didn't want to cut anything off of it
>>97346086trim with hobby knife and/or sand with sanding sticks
>>97346081Even better, screen cap it.
Gonna make a CSM warband called the Swag Lords, paint them purple and gold, and just put in all the coolest models CSMs have access to. They worship an entity known as "The Based God".
>>97346086Those are sprue gates, they're normalif you have flat side nippers you can set them flush to the model and clip off the material or you can carefully cut away with your hobby knife or sand them down
>>97346086That always happens, don't worry about it, you can carefully scrape them off or sand them down
>>97346086as long as there's no actually texture you'll be fine.If its just the gate links front the sprue just get a sharp knife to take them off, sand paper is also useful depending on the aplication.

>>97346163Honestly given the landscape of warfare in the 41st Millenium, its stranger they don't have a token melee upgrade for suits. Many forces push on with overwhelming numbers and speed and having the ability to defend yourself under your guns is an option that doesn't make sense to be nonexistent. That would be, of course, if it was nonexistent; and we didn't have fusion blades 13 fucking years ago.'Oh no' GW says 'You have them in the Experimental Weapons Detachment! See!' Yeah I see the fucking fusion blaster enhancement that you have to slap onto a commander that DOESN'T DO ANYTHING IN THE FIGHT PHASE.I literally just want to be able to slap these fuckers on a single crisis team to match their combat role to my Farsight. Wish there was some super ornate space marine armour like this. If you're a space marine and had the same suit for centuries you'd have it personalised like this. Only the space wolves had animal themed helmets wish we had dragon themed ones.

>>97346267>Should I attach everything together then paint? I think I can reach behind the model.depends on your preferences, it's easier to reach the torso if you leave the arms off but with a high model count army like guard this can be tedious, most models you can get a brush in between the arms and the torso/other hard to reach areas well enough

>>97346227>>97346254X-acto is a brand that makes all sorts of blade shapes and styles. Name brand x-acto scalpel shape blades are likely better than what ever you're using unless you're using OLFAs. An x-acto knife isn't a style of knife, it's a brand.

>>97346428>Yeah and that shit is kino. That's very debatable, the wolf helmets have always been a meme to the point GW had to redo the space wolves mk6 helmets because everyone kept clowning on them for releasing an entire box of wolf heads.
>>97346493I'm gonna keep making posts about it until somebody posts some Space Marine iconography guides. I've got this one but it's for 30k
>>97346504Yeah but thats because those wolf helms break the beakie themed helmets every else was getting. Also you don't get the 'human head in the jaws of a wolf' look i was talking about. Also the wolf heads themselves are styled more like furry power armour and not power armour that is made to look like a wolf-like animal. Get what I mean? they failed for numerous reasons and not just because people are opposed to animal themed helms

>>97346525Was it to match you knights?
>>97346527no I'm a different guy. I'm doing a OC Dark Angels successor Chapter called the Hounds of Sarthax, so having some wolf helmets in there would be appropriate
>>97346315Grey Knights edges them out slightly. But yeah, Dark Eldar is damn close and they're a much older faction too.Don't forget they once went something like 15 years without a codex.
>>97346316Do you just not get how embarassingly bad that is? Just give them an option with WS 3... fuck it, WS 4 would be less stupid to roll next to the fucking samurai dude. >>97346591Anon, you aren't using that glue for your plastic minis are you. You want plastic cement, not super glue when gluing plastic models
>>97346591it's super glue, you can just snap it off, sand the surfaces smooth and glue again
>>97346429>>97346444Right, my bad then. I swear I've always heard people use the term "exacto" in regards to this sort of knife, aka a "boxcutter". That style with the little interchangeable blade is the hobby knife I was referring to. I fucken hate the general trend of using brand names to refer to shit
>>97346602That's what the person at the store recommended; but I'll get plastic cement. I thought this was already a version of plastic cement, but yeah I just looked it up and it's just super glue. God damnit
>>97346591you can just snap off superglued parts, maybe chuck it in the freezer for a bit to make it more brittle. If you were using plastic glue you would have to cut it since that melts the plastic together which leads to a tougher bond.>>97346602Super glue is fine on plastic, I use it all the time when glueing special weapons so i can change them in edition changes if they're no longerr useful.
>>97346141My Questoris Knights are probably my favorite. I never got around to weathering them down like I wanted, but no one can really snub their nose at the level they're currently at.

>>97346564NTA, but as someone who used to regularly get their DnD characters drawn if I liked them enough, never pay more than 150ish leafbucks for a single character. My PC background is a doublewide of 2 of them with a full color background and dynamic poses, and I don't think I paid more than 300.
>>97346430>>97346497Don't just have fun.
>>97346591you do not want plastic cement as >>97346602suggests unless you are trying to attach parts that normally would be difficult like converting spear hafts or some other flimsy thingotherwise superglue will do just fine and in a lot of cases you can just snap the parts back off if you need to with little to no damage to the model. plastic glue causes a chemical reaction which liquifies the plastic of both parts and melts them together, forming a permanent bond which can be useful when you really need a fragile part not to break, but can also be a problem as it can be near impossible to adjust after the fact or break apart later since its all melted fused plastic, and you would need a knife or a saw and have to cut it like you were cutting through a full piece of plastic. also you dont really need to get fancy with superglue from the gamestore, any general purpose superglue will work. loctite, gorilla glue brand (not normal gorilla glue but their superglue)plastic glue has its uses and it doesnt stick to your fingers, and also avoids the superglue fingerprint on the model problem, but it has a whole slew of other problems that can make it unfit for purpose depending on your situation, and i personally prefer to avoid it for most things
>>97346555God I'm such a fucking edgelord. #4 and #6 look cool as hell.
>>97346632Thanks man. The whole "buying an imperial/chaos knight and sawing them in half and gluing them back together" part makes it feel less cringe and retarded to me. I don't know if I could have done these without doing it. If I ever do actual Alpha Legion, I'm using loyalist primaris and just painting them AL green and doubling down whenever someone says my Blood Angels aren't red.
Matt Ward please come back. At least your overpowered nonsense was just supposed to be cool instead of being a cynical move to make all Space Marine players' armies obsolete so that they re-buy them!
>>97346522Sisters completely do not run Penitent Host lists, but in any event, every list loses if it doesn't use the Vahlgon unit wisely. Hallowed Martyrs uses mortifiers to eat charges and fight-on-death. Pengines are very underwhelming despite the nice advance and charge. I feel like I got a ton of rejection about my Leman Russ returns scenarios by the nothing ever happens crowd. If that is the case then how does he return in your eyes? What low value scenario occurs to make the epic "Wolf Time" occur?
>>97346927I dunno, but it´s a long running joke in my mind that the doggo will be the very last primarch to return, regardless how often GW teases it with the space wolves
>>97346938That would be devastating for us but also would magnify the event of his return. The last Primarch returning, the second of the bunch who made Horus first question his purpose.

>>97346894>What the fuck do they feed them.I was wondering this the other night. I'd imagine the fat ass slamcaus from the milf caste are drinking a lot of boxed white wine and eating a lot of takeout while they wait for their disappointing guela husbands to get home. Meanwhile the giga titty bluebones from the milk caste are likely drinking a lot of onions based protein shakes, with large amounts of dark leafy greens to supplement the enormous amounts of iron and calcium they would require for proper milk production
Okay, I think this arm looks a lot better. Not ideal, but much better than my other one.I also noticed near the head some of the glue froze, I tried picking it off with my knife but I couldn't really get much off; will primer/paint cover that or should I keep going at it?
>>97346998Oops, ignore my dogshit crop. Here's a better pic

>>97347013I don't even know who you are (Thanos Ref), seriously what the fuck are you talking about?
>>97346998>will primer/paint cover thatPrimer/paint will cover nothing, get this idea out of your head. In fact, it will even highlight some things that aren't so obvious in just plain plastic, like mold lines.
>>97347045Ok, got it. I saw online nail polish remover would get rid of this, should I try that or just stick with scraping it off?
>>97346998>tried picking it off with my knifeYou really need to either look things up or ask here before you do things or you're going to eventually make a mistake that we will have to say "no you can't fix that/It's fucked forever/you made it worse">also noticed near the head some of the glue frozeThis is one of the reasons people were suggesting plastic cement as it does not leave a texture behind if it overspills(which as a beginner, you will be doing a lot.)>will primer/paint cover thatAbsolutely not. If it has any texture at all,it will show up after primer. >should I keep picking at itNo.>can I fix itYou could go out and buy superglue debonder, remove all that glue, clean it up, and then reglue it. Is it worth it to do that for one guardsman? Fuck no. You're going to be painting dozens and dozens of these dudes, and likely nobody will notice if one is a little rough around his neck. That said, going forward you want to use much less glue than you are using. If your super glue bottle has too large of an opening to be controlled, squirt the tiniest blob you can on a bottle cap and use a paperclip or another small tool to apply your super glue to the model
>>97347024>(Thanos Ref)what's the reference?
>>97347024stop roleplaying as the redditor already
>>97347050I don't have any experience with polish remover but using some of that with a cotton bud won't hurt the model, give it a go. Otherwise you'd be best taking the head off too, cleaning it all up and re-gluing.It's very easy to put too much glue in neck pockets, which then squeezes up and out when you push the head in. Just a couple drops will do next time
>>97347020No but melting down every time you see large boobs and then going "erm it's just my personal taste that i like normal sized boobs freakerzoid, r u mad lol" when people point out you're being annoying is a little hypocritical
>>97347067Okay, yeah I'm sorry; I'll stop with the newfag questions. I'll also reduce glue even more, I saw firsthand how much even a fraction of a dot goes, even with the tiny little nozzle it has; as far as this guy I think I'll just go as is, hopefully the neck doesn't look too awful.Thank you for the advice; I'll do better on my next model
>>97347101That neck is rough and is probably gonna look like shit when you paint if you don't redo it entirely, sorry Anon. Just keep it as a reminder of where you fucked up
>>97347050DONT FUCKING DO THAT. Google what happens to plastic models when acetone touches them. Even the acetone free nail polish removers have gnarly solvents in them. You can buy name brand super glue debonder, or you can leave it. Those are your options
>>97346805The slower board/thread/general is the higher it's quality. I don't see the issue here desu.Boards should be further balkanized

>>97347101It's fine, everyone fucks up their first model in someway. Luckily with guard you have a gorillion more models to make, so one guy in the meatgrinder looking off isn't the end of the world.Generally when your heroes are looking ugly is when you should be concerned
>>97347101>I'll stop with the newfag questionsNigga READ. ASK. MORE. QUESTIONS. What I was saying is that you need to do more research before jumping into things. This is a hobby that is very easy to totally ruin your models if you are trying to do everything on your own without looking things up, particularly in the building stage. You can't really permanently fuck anything up when you're painting, but building and gluing are all processes that once you do something, you can't take it back or just strip all the paint off and start again.
>>97347114That retard just makes those posts in the hopes that someone will say>well you could post some models and make it betterAnd then he'll have an excuse to post his decalslop.

>>97347150I got sanding tools and a hobby knife; I also watched some videos on how to start; I thought I was ready, and you're right I wasn't. I'm sorry.
>>97347160Nta but if you ask for help you should do your very best to try and acknowledge and explore every peice of advice given to you. That's one of the reasons people got fed up with decalfag, cause he would ask for help on a very specific thing, people would type up a bunch of advice, and then he would ignore all of it and get mad when you pointed it out to him in the future that he obviously didn't take your advice that he specifically asked for.
>>97347178That’s completely understandable, and I agree; I just got overconfident and underestimated how unforgiving building stuff is regarding mistakes, plus didn’t prep enough.I do feel like an asshole for not watching/reading all that was provided; I’ll prep more before making the next model.

Always wanted to play since I was a kid, but I've never been able to get past the assembling and painting each little piece by hand just to play the game, in addition to what seems like a considerable up front cost just to field your first army. Are there any real solutions for this? Do you guys all actually just spend the time to paint all your minis? I just can't imagine taking all that time and effort and then realizing I don't really like the faction or even the game that much, or even if I do I'm the type who would certainly want the variety of being able to play other factions which adds even more time, money, and energy needed to be invested to experience more of the game. Seems like an inherent flaw with the game.Am I missing something or is this really just how it works? You put in all the time and money and then if you want to play something else you just do it again each time? Do most people just play like one army forever?
>>97347214Honestly up close I think that's more than good enough. Fishnets and lace IRL are so intricate that they circle back around to looking like just a bunch of random shapes as soon as you aren't staring at them from like 6 feet away. You as a viewer of the miniature, are way way further away than 4 feet. Even in you're closeup, your commissar would need to be pretty far to appear that small.
>>97347251>Am I missing something or is this really just how it worksyeah, pretty much 2 thirds of this hobby is about building and painting. So if you can't even tolerate that part of it i doubt you'll have any lasting enjoyment with this hobby.
>>97347251That's why the advice is always choose your army based on what you like the look and description of first, learn to play second. Some people play one army forever, some people bounce around, it's the whole spectrum. There are people who play and do as little hobbying as possible, there are people who have tens of thousands of points worth of armies but haven't played a single game. For most people, the hobby part of 40k is part of the draw. When it comes to assembling and painting minis with the goal of playing a game, nobody is going to refuse to play an unpainted army. Ignore neurotic anons replying to this post pretending they do on principle. Everyone prefers if armies are painted, but again we would rather play than not play, simple as. You would be surprised how far you can get with the quickest speed painting methods that are basically all drybrushing and some minor detail painting, and what a difference it makes compared to flat grey.
>>97347251Did you ever enjoy lego, anon? Us nerds who get into tabletop games typically find it satisfying and cathartic to put dudes together and/or paint them up, so the assemblage is all part of enjoyment of the hobby for us. People will usually also watch youtube/tv whilst doing it too.>Are there any real solutions for this?Tons. Pay someone to do the assembling/painting for you is the first one that comes to mind, though I doubt you'd be keen on the price of that. Go to a store and check out others playing the game - usually someone will be happy to lend an army (or the store might have one) so you can try the game out and see if you enjoy it and what faction may appeal to you. Failing that, get TTS and play some warhams on there for free.
>>97347251This is a modeling hobby more so than it is a gaming hobby. The gaming is just something you can do with your favorite models when you're done painting them. If the game is the most exciting part for you, you could check out tts and play a few games before committing to a ohysical army, but personally I think tts is missing a lot of the cool cinematic reasons for why the game is cool in the first place. There are smaller rules systems using gw minis if you want to try out smaller groups of guys. But full scale 40k is a game with a lot of units, that's what it's supposed to be
>>97347251One of the neat things is you can play without models at all if you want to just get to grips with the ruiles, my friends have used paper cutout standees before.
>>97347271I mean don't get me wrong, I'd love a beautiful army that "looks like the box," but I have zero delusions that I'd ever be the guy to put in the time to do it or develop the skills to do so. I've considered saying fk it, and trying one of these speed painting methods. I've actually watched a number of yt tutorials on "speed painting x army" and I usually come away still deterred from the up front time and money investment the hobby seems to require just to play the game. It would also really bother me to spend on things like an airbrush (which many of these methods seem to heavily employ) and all the other painting/assembling supplies which I'm sure I would never really enjoy using. It would always just be a means to an end, which sounds more like a job than a hobby...
>>97347251Yeah alot of people are ride or die with their armies and yes its a massive fucking timesink so its alot of building and painting before playing but also greytide is a meme because lots of people will just play with built unpainted minis and paint them along the way instead of waiting to get a picture perfect paintjob before putting it on the table. If people do get more armies lots of people also offload their built and painted armies for budget or storage reasons at discount so lots of the time people pick those up if they want to play another army or dont want to bother with building and painting.>>97347293I get by just fine without an airbrush, painting is actually dead easy>Fully build model>Prime with spray can>Paint big parts such as armor/leather flesh and do details later>Put a wash over it>Paint the base using a base paint like Stirland Mud or AstrograniteThe wash is important because washes are very good at hiding shit paintjobs and my personal favorite is slathering something like Agrax Earthshade so it looks like your mini came out of the battle of the somme. It hides any mistakes and its thematic with 0 effort
>>97347293If it sounds like a job, then it's probably not the game for you. Is there a reason you want to play 40K specifically? Because depending on the why there might be something else out there for you - if you're keen on the popularity/aesthetics of 40K, kill team is a smaller model count, much lower buy in. If you don't necessarily care for the setting, there are other games out there with pre-built or even painted models (X-Wing, Battletech just to name a couple).
>>97347251You kinda need to like the creative side of the hobby to get real enjoyment out of this. If you just wanna game there are other better alternative wargames with lower cost and fewer models to paint
>>97346640try to get in the habit of dry fitting parts before gluing.
>>97346927what makes you think he will return?or are you a zoomer that never played 40k when they were no primarchs around?
>>97347251Hobbying is the main appeal. Game is a secondary afterthought to do something with minis you have.
>>97347305>>97347306yeah I thought space marines were the coolest thing I'd ever seen when I first discovered 40k at like 12. I've loved the lore and flavor of the universe ever since, and based on my other board/tabletop/video game tastes I've always imagined I'd really like the game. I've probably overblown it in my mind after all these years wanting to play, but not being able to be fucked to paint an entire army.
>>97347324The current edition of the game is kinda shit anyway, you're not missing much.
>>97347324Well if you're set on SM specifically they're a pretty damn common army, so like I said you can probably head into a store and get a trial game with them pretty easily. Also look into doing a kill team first to ease into the hobbying, if you don't like it you've (hopefully) only bought one squad of dudes atp, no big loss. If you do enjoy it and end up putting an army together the KT won't go to waste, can always use them in your squads.
>>97347214that looks great. i am oddly aroused.
>>97347280>This is a modeling hobby more so than it is a gaming hobby>>97347306>You kinda need to like the creative side of the hobby to get real enjoyment out of this>>97347323>Hobbying is the main appealI guess I've genuinely had it backwards all this time because of how averse I am to the idea of spending all the time and effort to build and paint an army. Then paying a considerable amount of money in order to do that just always felt like too big of a barrier to entry for meI appreciate you guys clarifying this for me. Kinda feel like a dumbass now, though. >a hobby where people spend a considerable amount of time gluing and painting is mostly about gluing and paintingshockerI've always been drawn to the game and the flavor
>>97347345I'm not any more, but that's what initially sucked me in as a kid. Not to say I'd necessarily be opposed either, though.
>>97347357Give TTS a go if you want to play, but be aware a lot of people that play warhammer that way can be try hards since it lacks the initial hobby barrier.
>>97347293you could always buy a used army online for usually cheaper than new.
>>97347357>I've always been drawn to the game and the flavorYou're not alone, but people like that tend to stick to the vidya. I play a heap of Blood Bowl myself and play in leagues with plenty of folk who've never bought a model. Otherwise there are people like this who do push through and buy an army just to play, they tend to be the laziest put together and painted with mold lines showing and three colour minimum hastily slapped on, but like another anon said nobody will really care when face to face and rather play a game than refuse. In any case we've given a bunch of options for you to mull over, feel free to ask more questions ofc too.
>>97347367didn't realize this was a thing. I'll have to try that out.>>97347369might do so if I enjoy the game enoughappreciate the tips, guys
Are one off narrative games a normal thing amongst you regular gameplayers? I’ve played learning “games” and want to play for real games when the 500 Worlds come out. Matched play doesn’t motivate me, but Idon’t know if I can find the time to commit to a campaign.
>>97347385kinda depends on the people involved. for example:>am the only Agents player in my area (shocker)>sometimes I get paired up with the only Deathwatch player in my area>we're both fans of narrative play and the Abnett books/warhammer crime books etcetc>even in tournaments we'll fluff out our games as struggles over jurisdiction between our respective Inquisitors >we might hold our punches slightly or keep a unit hidden instead of gamble it on an objective>in the end someone wins and the TO doesn't really care what happens as long as no rules are broken
>>97346141I like my Storm Eagle, Wardog and Riptide a lot but this is probably my best model of 2025 objectively speaking.
>>97347385Depends who you're playing with. Generally games with your friends are whatever you want them to be. Pickup games people are generally looking for matched play
