aos has too many great looking armies. I don't even have any StD but i got and painted this on a weekend and now Ive ordered ogroids and chaos warriors as well
>>
>>97349064
I just hope BCR don't get utterly shafted.
>>
>>97345717

thanks, thats a good rundown, i really like the faction for the Trolls, silly goblins and squigs, i wasnt going to use the wolves regardless as i dont like them too much
I was hoping to make a mixed force but i suppose its better to focus on one of the subfaction? ia there some list where i can mix the squig guys and trolls and it would work well?

I have a feeling that ossiarch will be the next big bad guys for the next edition starter boxes, If so I would like to see cities of sigmar of aquatic elves instead of stormcucks

Do seraphon have any ways to deal with wizards besides having slaan deal with them?
>>
>>97349407
Nta you were originally talking to but gits run fine mixed, if anything probably better off mixed, each one of the elements on their own have serious weaknesses (troggs are slow, squigs can't hold objectives, moonclan do zero damage, etc) and kinda compliment each other. Also subfaction bonuses aren't what they used to be, you're not as punished for taking things that aren't benefited by the subfaction as you were in 3rd or 2nd edition
>>
>>97349654
You can just stab them to death
>>
>>97349654
Skink mages.
>>
Is there a good “offbrand” option for Retributor gold? Not even painting Stormies with them, it’s just a really nice shade of gold.
>>
>>97349654
what wizards are you struggling to deal with? wizards are usually summoning or buffing units in this game, theyre not significant sources of damage on their own (usually)
>>
>>97349769
The new Vallejo True Metal Metallic Imperial Gold might be good. Theres also Army Painter Fanatic Greedy Gold.
>>
>>97349769
Duncans/TTC Dragon's Gold is pretty close but it's of higher quality and comes in a dropper. To be fair TTC bottles are pretty shit but still better than those godforsaken pots
>>
>>97349096
Well, not really a fear but I know the rules won't be super exciting.

Model wise, if it's Arkhan on the rumored chariot I hope he looks like a lich still. One of my favorite characters. I hope the chariot is also not just a regular chariot but something the ossiarchs improved on, like how the crawler is an improved trebuchet.

Aside from that I would hate it if the new models look more like the warcry band. They should resemble the first wave of ossiarchs, and they need to get off the elite unit wank or atleast release both mortek and elite units at the same time.

No reason we can't have big dudes and mortek archers, tired of the army being a custodes like model count. I can't think of an army with a bigger disconnect between art/lore portrayal and how they've ran on the tabletop.

Anons 2 paint questions

Having some rat minis, some of them of course have warpstone, is moot green or tesseract glow good for the highlight/edges?

2nd question would be green color too but for Orruks, usually ogryn camo good for the skin or would you recommend other? I'm trying for the classy strong green orrruk look
>>
>>97349622
It'd surprise me if ossiarchs will be in thr starter if they're also getting a decently sized wave now desu.
>idoneth in the starter
Will never happen but holy shit yes please
>>97349954
Can you find the old spearhead somewhere? Seems like a really nice box, the new karanak one feels a bit too niche in comparison.
>>
>>97349064
Im surprised they gave the ogors artillery considering the amount of minis is ""low"", but bonereapers sure got decent amount

Then again, we had artillery in fantasy too with low amount of units in some starter sets
>>
>>97349064
Come to think of it gw hasn't done these in a while, I guess outside of starter boxes it seeks they moved away from the VS box concept? Even tows starter boxes were separate ones iirc.
They could be pretty sovlful but from the customer's pov they were always kind of a pain in the ass to be honest.

tesseract glow is a watery effect paint. you apply it over white and it does both the darker green and yellow edges. it separates like a motherfucker too so you gotta make sure to really stir it up each time you use it. i would watch a video on tesseract glow, its a cool paint but it doesnt behave like a normal paint at all, its a two tone separating stain more than a regular paint

moot green is fairly bright to start, but if you highlight it with yellow it should work. another option would be the warpstone contrast which is somewhat darker and then drybrush or highlight that with moot green and then yellow

depending on what color you want your orruks, you may actually want to check out warpaint fanatics, they have a pretty good amount of orky greens

if you want to stick with citadel, i usually start with elysian green, hit with with earthshade, and then highlight with ogryn camo and thats a good nuetral green skin tone. there's also an official orruk flesh color paint but i found it to be kindad minty. if i had to paint my orruks over again though i'd probably just go with warpaint or AK gen 3 or one of the other ranges. citadel paints are so hit or miss and have kinda shit coverage and consistency

They still do them plenty in Kill Team, I think the issue is scale. It’s easy for a game that lets you sample other factions but not have to commit, while a AoS or 40k VS box has a much larger commitment.

>>
>>97350279
True, I think you're right with the scale thing. Easier to convince your buddy to share a kill team compared to a whole normal boxset. Or alternatively, easier to paint/play the two warbands yourself.

I really didn't like the ossiarch warband either, probably my least favourite warcry release. Just looked off imo. The underworlds ossiarch on the other hand look great. Mir kainan is probably the best looking obr mini and he's also different from their usual look, just executed way better. Pulls of the whole skeleton construct thing very well.

Yeah you're actually better off running a mix of guys in 4th because of the way the badmoon phases work. Moonclan and trogs run well together and having a bunch of trots means you don't need to run dozens and dozens of stabbas to fill your list
>>
>>97351079
I get the argument, but I'd say malign portents was the deathrattles of old GW rather than peak AoS if that makes sense. Certainly the overall era of mid-late 2nd edition AoS from Feast of Bones to Broken Realms: Morathi was basically the last time the game was actually good.
>>
>>97351105
The whole broken realms thing was really good as I remember. To be fair to the aos team third editions whole beast thing being an absolute mess wasn't entirely their fault what with corona and (if rumours are to be believed) the tow beastmen divorce. No excuses for 4th edition's tomes though that shit's on them.

>>97351070
Focus on the armored stuff, pass on the half naked tribal units and monsters. All the core big armor and shield units like warriors, knights, varanguard and chosen are your bread and butter, along with the matching heroes. Belakor is also a must have when you can afford it, as is probably a demon prince

The darkoath stuff is undercooked and paying for the sins of previous editions where marauders were obscene
>>
>>97351327
Im suprised, is that the reason many tribes got sent to legends because they weren't that good?

Also as for chosen i feel they should have some marauders to absorb ranged because of their movement and quantity?

4th edition really illustrates that they need to clean house. the battletomes in 4th are driving home the point that rose and his team in 3rd edition were just riding off the coat tails of 2nd editions design, and when actually allowed to make their own edition they made possibly the most soulless creatively bankrupt husk of a warhammer edition the company has ever seen across all of its franchises.

i tried to give them the benefit of the doubt with the indexes because it was meant to just be a temporary holdover until the tomes, but then when the tomes started coming out and were just as if not more stripped down and unimaginitive than the indexes, it really showed that this was the vision, and i dont think theres any saving this design team. they need a clean slate

i mean for fucks sake ironjawz army rules arent even a third of a page. every subfaction is a 3 line paragraph and half of them are recycled across multiple armies. they trimmed artifacts and traits down to a meager 3 per army and they still cant make them good

and i swear to god if i see once per (army) on another standard army filling unit like what they did to blightkings and thunderers im fuckin marching down to nottingham myself
>>
>>97351426
No, that's because those 'tribes' were actually originally part of a sidegame called warcry. The gist was a bunch of chaos warbands fighting over glory, showing off some chaos stuff that's not just the big four. But obviously that makes it more niche to use in aos itself, so there wasn't really a point to keep producing all these kits when StD players likely only wanted one of them at most. The game also got soft-discontinued in the meanwhile.
Anyway, not all of the boxes are gone though. Lots of the non-chaos warcry warbands (which came later) got fully integrated into their respective armies, like the hunters of huanchi who are in the second seraphon spearhead. Same story for the nurgle or khorne warcry guys.
