So what's Battletech's excuse for not having everyone and everything being run and done by AI and robots? They didn't have a big war against the machines or butlerian Jihad like Dune and 40k did
>>97411810>play the space merchants

>>97411899There is no AI. THE END.
>>9741189980s computers don't do AI well. Also the AI they do have doesn't usually handle K-F jumping very well, with multiple examples of it going completely off the rails. The one and only autoscout jumpship is still occasionally seen jumping around in the deep, deep periphery, because it completely ignored its programmed course and all attempts at remotely stopping it.
>>97411899Star League was testing advanced A.I. and robotics and at least had the robotics part down till they were destroyed in the coup.Personally I believe advanced AI to be the least egregious of the "NEVER EVER NO FUN ALLOWED" rules and imo can be implemented properly, but I doubt it'll ever make a return.
>>97411926what book is that in? Sounds cool
>>97411899The wealthiest, most powerful nation to ever exist heavily automated their space defenses and then had those defenses subverted and turned against them. Also, the computer technology is not all that good.

>>97411939XTRO: Boondoggles
>>97411899>>97411926>>97411934I can accept the whole "K-F Jumps make AI go crazy" bit, since they're never going to explain how Jumpspace actually works.
A setting that runs entirely on "rule of cool" doesn't need to explain fucking anything besides its own lore. Leave that technical autism for actually important shit.
>>97411964It also doesn't need AI when the Cappies are manufacturing infinite orphan slaves.
>>97412002I mean someone would at least try it, if only to not have to keep feeding orphans...
Tournament action on the way
>>97412009That would upset the balance of power in the Inner Sphere and disrupt interstellar trade. There are whole planets devoted to feeding those orphans.
I've been digging into deep BT back-history to build an alt-scenario for the Age of War, and there's something that's been bugging me for a while:The Muskegon Coalition was founded in 2163 when a colony-ship carrying a million people misjumped and was stranded in the Muskegon system. Problem is, Interstellar Operations retconned the largest available JumpShip to be only 200,000 tons (picrel), which is *in no way* big enough to hold a million people.So... should I ignore the chart and say it was a fuckhueg JumpShip?Say the expedition was multiple ships? (That all fried their drives the same time in the same way? What are the odds of that?)Outright retcon the entire Coalition out of existence? (Since the FedSuns inherited a war with the Tikonov Grand Union over Muskegon worlds when the FS annexed the Coalition, this would remove one of the founding points of the Davion/Cappie feud.)
So correct me if I'm wrong, but the doctrines of the houses are:>Dracs: Focus on mechs above all else, emphasis on speed and maneuverability, fuck mediums you're either light or fat don't try to do both>FedSuns: Modern western army analogue. Combined arms emphasis>Capellans: Defensive and unconventional strategy backed up by Wunderwaffe>FWL: Infighting>Lyrans: Producing the biggest and heaviest shit more than anyone else. The wall moves!>Rasalhague: Mix between Lyrans and Combine
>>97411934The Broken was an interesting idea. That and drone mechs.Garrison in the middle of nowhere, dogbrain AI that has the drone mechs patrol the perimeter and if anything does actually happen personnel get into the VR pods to control them
>>97411926That doesn't sound crazy, it sounds like it decided "fuck those monkeigh, I'm just going to sightsee the universe for eternity on my own terms"Which is very reasonable and sane IMO.

>>97411943>mad broI can't remember if it's unique. Its in one of the XTRO's. Mercenary or Boondoggles. I dont really remember. It's an omni marauder with a stupidly large price tag for what it delivers.
>>97412059To be fair FWL is pretty big on combined arms too. Feddies seem to be more 'tank doctrine with mechs' where everything wants a main cannon (almost always an AC) and a good mix of mobility, armor and backup firepower.
>>97412068Broken was good, WoB automatons and Challenge Magazine's A.I. scenario did it well too.If anything, I feel intelligent robots would be a million times more in line with BattleTech than intelligent aliens.
>>97412121Feds implemented combined arms as an elaborate humiliation ritual for mech warriors. Open your third eye.

>>97411951One of the lore rumours from the newest sourcebook, Ilkhan's Eyes Only>A vessel matching the description of the long-vanished Bright Star was reportedly spotted in the vicinity of the Chameleon Nebula. Designed for automated mapping of unexplored space, it went rogue in 2545 and disappeared. However, the report claims the 600-year old vessel was not a derelict, but powered up and jumped away when hailed. If it is the Bright Star, it could have made far more detailed surveys of the Deep Periphery than any we have and may contain information about the Homeworld Clans.

Does anyone have a line on either the third or fourth printing of A Time of War? The link in the Trove leads to one that says its third printing, but its not.
>>97412074My assumption is that it took "mission statement: map unexplored systems" to a conclusion that includes "do not be in systems with signs of human life, human life = explored" so it immediately fucks off into the unknown when it detects any sort of human activity.
We're back at it again with another exciting match. Starting north we have a team with an axe to grind against certain legally unamed individuals, Fuc U Sean. This lance consists of a strong but for some unknown reason, maligned mechs. Piloted by what is believed to be FWL troops. Though on paper these knights claim association with the esteemed Knights of the Inner Sphere, our sources believe they are possibly SAFE agents... To save my own hide I'll take them at their word. Regardless these pilots look to show what their mechs can really do to spite what the news would have you believe.Starting to the south we have a lyran light scouting detachment, the Zeus troop. As per their namesake, this lance is zeus and nothing but zeus variants. Don't let the zany antics of their pilots fool you either, these mechwarriors are just as dangerous as they are comical. As the the heaviest lance in the competition we'll see if that will help push them the distance.>>97412131Was it one in texas?

>>97412298Yeah, mines 1st ed too, and apparently there are new rules in 3rd/4th that arent in the errata for some dumb reason, so now I gotta hunt down a copy.
>>97412265Here's the combat area, with both forces deploying to the right side of the map we'll see how that works for the lighter lance as the Zeus troop try to chip away at their advance.
>Inner sphere is tainted>Star league was inner sphere>and the clans are star league, and want to be star leagueI'm beginning to suspect the steel vipers were retarded

>>97412254I have the physical "corrected third printing" with the Succ lords cover.
>>97412313And for our round 5 update we have first blood being drawn. after a few rounds of skirmishing by both teams, Jupiter's ammo bins explode leaving him flying into the air with an incredibly amusing scream. That said masketta has taken heavy damage and might be next on the chopping block as the Zeus troop is content to stick to the woods making use of those southern woods.>>97412328I love those schizophrenic morons and their less retarded workhorse mech designs.>>97412329I hope so as well.
So the wars of reaving, if I'm getting this right, the vipers seething about getting whipped by the IS, posture and move to force out the other invasion clans. Things heat up because no everyone goes along with their autism, slap fights and the purity spiral start. Clan burrok's dark past with the dark caste gets revealed and they get shredded in the ensuing chaos. The society launches their incel uprising around the same time, again more chaos. And eventually with the homeworlds in ruins and all the clans the writers gave a shit about gone everyone left turns to the vipers and gangs up on them since they were tainted by the inner sphere the whole time.Did I miss anything?
>>97412362They also made up a new clan, which seems to me would be the most tainted thing of all, diluting Kerensky's vision, but apparently they're cool with it.Also they split themselves into two more groups, Bastion Clans and Aggressor Clans, so they're already on the road to repeat the Warden/Crusader split, but more genocidally.
>>97412356As the slugfest continues to round 10 both teams are taking heavy damage, only just a few minutes ago, CIA was thrown out of his own plane as he trips attempting to stand up while missing a leg and cooks off his ammo for the effort.Olympios goes down and nearly suffers a similar fate if not for the fact he's spent all of his LRM ammo already. And as we speak the teams close for a vicious melee that's sure to see some major effect on the match.
>>97412348That is unfortunately of little use to me
>Buck broke a clan so hard with one transmission they blew themselves up and took like five others with themHow can one man be so based?
>>97412336I also dabbled with the Mauler, I had to make some drastic changes to make it work. First of all was switching the armor to standard instead of FF and going up to 16 tons of armor. Next I gave it a compact gyro and increased heat sinks to 12. ERLL are downgraded to LL and both are moved to the CT, AC/2s are replaced with Light AC/5s which are put in the arms, and artemis enabled MML-7s are put in each side torso. 6 tons of ammo is protected by CASE in each torso.
I have discovered my 3D printer can print infantry and with this information I am going print battalions of infantry>>97412265uhh yes it was in fact in texas
>>97412362>>97412389Something something history doesn't repeat it rhymesMaybe next time it will be the Terran Clans taking a looksee visit to the Homeworlds and wondering what the heck happened there.
>>97412409As the teams close in the violence escalates, Masketta goes down to another ammo explosion as Olympios takes a bad hit to the hip actuators on both legs.Deciding ejecting while prone in the woods is a good idea, he turns himself into a living pancake. On the other side, brontios punches the ammo bins of the rakshasa, finishing off the madcat wannabe. As the 2v2 continues the albatross piloted by bane takes a hit to their ammo as well ending their run thanks to the destruction of their engine leaving pavelheer alone to fend for himself. but after a daring charge in between both of the remaining zeus troop members, he manages to make a critical dodge in melee to lead to a 1v1 scenario after another volley of fire. This is by far our closest match yet!

It all ends with a swift kick to the CT destroying the gyro utterly. waking up soon after, our last lyran pilot ejects signaling the end of the match with a victory for Fuc u Sean!In his excitement, Pavelheer shoots at one of the surviving pilots, lending credo to those SAFE allegations.Regardless, the folks at S*RNANEWS will have to redo a few articles, as the Bad mechs advance to the next round. All and all an excellent match.

>>97412231No, this is supposed to be in-world intelligence and rumours collected by Clan Wolf's operatives and prestented to their boss, this is just one of several from the Deep Periphery area, here's the introduction for that section, circa mid to late 3152>Once our supply chain and road to the homeworlds, the Deep Periphery has been largely closed to us since the Wars of Reaving. Ships sent to breach the Veil of the Protector and bring word of the Kerensky Cluster never returned. Our Watch remains attuned to developments in this region, however, preparing for the day when our long-severed brethren emerge from its depths. The buzzards have the most customized lance out of the entire competition, with every mech being personalized by their pilots. Some of their choices are beyond odd, as we have on good word that the mackie, our second in the competition, is carrying MASC. We'll have to see if these custom rides can help the buzzards against their opponents.Facing them from the south is the Sublime Spectral Saviors, a Combine corporate force that specializes in the wetwork side of aggressive takeovers. Stationed around the systems surrounding luthien, these Dracs bring some mean firepower to the fight with their diverse lineup. Will the buzzards customizations come out on top? Or, will the SSS turn them into carrion with their piloting edge.Stay tuned to find out>>97412594Yeah I really like the battle cobra, it's a fantastic 40tonner.

>>97412745A punch to the face is all it takes to snowball in the SSS's favor as Hackjob is knocked out and made quick work of. The Buzzard's battle cobra is also quickly taken down by a focused volley as its caught out of position and knocked over.Things are looking very lopsided for the buzzards as the urban fighting plays completely in the favor of the SSS.

So I was high last night and took some stuff I really shouldn't have, and started playing Mechwarrior 5 Clans for the first time. I went to bed, and had the most intense dream I ever saw regarding Battletech.>MW5 Clans seems to have an expansion about each Clan there is.>The base game is Smoke Jaguar.>Ghost Bear Expansion.>Wolf Expansion.>Final one should be Clan Jade Falcon.>The final expansion has you playing as Nicolai Malthus in his conquest of the Inner Sphere, leading The Falcon's Claws with Star Col. Kristen Redmond and Mechwarrior Picor(I think thats his name, the dude who pilots the Hunchback IIC).>The campaign is essentially the true story of the TBC Battletech show, complete with Adam Steiner and the Sommerset Strikers.>Culminates in the legendary 1v1 fight between Adam and Nicolai in the forest on Sommerset, with an Awesome and Summoner.Apparently the campaign had two endings. The canonical one, and the noncanonical one where Malthus scores a lucky hit on the Awesome and brains it. Nothing changes in the actual outcome of the setting, but gives one final mission with Nicolai on Tukayyid, where he dies in glorious combat.
>>97412790With loose factional constraints, meta being used as a tool to stomp at a table is fairly worthless. If you can do it to them, they can do it to you, and odds are if you're reaching for the sauce they've been around longer than you and have their own recipe for the bullshit you're pulling.Broadly the social contract of the game, if it can be called that, is lets put robots on a board and have fun together. If someone's playing with strong toys that are fun, opponents are generally willing to follow suit and make it a proper bout. If you're playing with strong shit that's annoying, either you're going to eventually get taught a lesson or people will just stop playing with you.
How do I get over not giving a shit about anything Clans,? I want to like the fancy mechs too but I can't I like the robotmen and House shit too much. Would the game make me like Clans?

>>97412854Next match up is a lower tonnage fight with some interesting choices. In the north we have Do you remember Love, a band of former Rasalhague pilots who thought that the ghost bears really weren't their tempo and have been floating around space putting on cooking shows and idol concerts between planetry raids and industrial sabotage.Facing them are the insufferably self righteous forces of the Valorous Sunblade. Die hard Fedsun loyalists they are pinned as favorites for this competition simply for just existing.Led by one Dwingus Steiner-Kurita-Marik-Davion, these autocannon loving crusaders have made a point to announce an intent to have a second round of the 4th succession war. Things won't be easy for them however, as the forces of DYRL are hardened veterans, and will make short work of the Davion mechs if given an inch.
>>97412990There is nothing wrong with treating the clans as the villainous antagonist NPCs they were always supposed to be and just stealing their tech.
Do you think after Tukayyid, there were some Clanners who became so disillusioned with the Clan way of life given that they just lost, that they just stopped fighting and left the Warrior caste?

>>97411791I've got a Seeker Mixed Binary I use and write about, even got some art of the Star Captain in an Annihilator. Other mechs are a Shadow Hawk IIC, Hunchback IIC bondsman, Howler, Horned Owl for one star, and the other being a Phoenix Hawk C with the remaining points being a mix of Elementals, Undines, Sylphs, Salamanders and infantry. In fiction, they end up doing a lot of exploring, so everyone but the Seeker needs mechs with hands or mobility or environment options. The plain infantry end up mostly using their field shovels, and are of the opinion that this is a punishment posting as they tend to die ignoble deaths frequently. They make a very objective-focused OPFOR, and let me chew the scenery a bit. Helps that I play them as slightly unhinged SLDF fanboys.
>>97413025I play Mechwarrior with a pair of VKB omnithrottles, so two sticks
>>97413155Unfortunately, skill couldn't pull enough weight for the forces of DYRL to break being out numbered. A gauss round knocks out the hip of Chef's phoenix hawk, downing it and letting the remaining sunblade mechs pour easy fire into the machine. Dwingus and his Valorous Sunblade advance to the top 8 as we move to our final match of the round of 16.>>97413170And putting their tech on your less broken tech is a fun way to spruce up your machines.
>>97413192>even got some art of the Star Captain in an Annihilator.pic? How do you move the elementals without omnimechs? And the plain infantry ought to be a Watch detachment since you got Elementals
>>97413202Replay as the last match gets setup.>>97413192You gonna post that art, anon?
>>97413202>And putting their tech on your less broken tech is a fun way to spruce up your machines. But then you have to play the "Why don't we make tech this good?" which leads to "Why doesn't EVERYONE make their tech this good?"
What would be more disastrous - every Comstar primus being brainwashed with a mental imprint of Nicholas Kerensky at the age of 29 or if Amaris was able to make plans without being a Saturday morning cartoon villain?
>>97413025>>97413070All of the above and then some.
>>97413304Tough call, Amaris not being cartoonishly villainous means he likely isn't going to do all the stupid shit that fueled Alex's counter revolution...Overwriting every Primus with little Nicky I assume would cause Comstar to go Clanner, but I'm not sure if that'd actually be any worse than Canon...
>>97413304If Amaris was able to plan without being a cartoon villain, he would have just used his extremely powerful position to run the star league from behind the throne. He never needed to kill the Camerons, there was no deadline or threat of being exposed that forced his hand, and the build up to the event involved him writing star league policy as if he was the First Lord himself. He already got the SLDF to back out of the RWR and the only times he got countered were his most extreme orders that were designed to be too far so that Richard would experience backlash and resent people like Kerensky for telling him no.
trying out megamek myself and ran the training scenario. Only hex based games I've played have been WEGO CWGs so it's tricky trying to figure out the movement phase. Blind dry run learn-by-doing/dying before I take the time to actually read
>>97413245Delayed, but the final match of the round of 16 is here.North we have the Gibbon Grenadiers a lyran merc outfit. The grenadiers one of the few forces employing Clan mechs and in fact have a few clan pilots. Whether or not their fancy tech will win them the fight is left to be seen, as their opponent also has some tricks up their sleeves. From the Capellan confederation comes the Nightless wisdom. Led by a minor noble from a backwater planet, this lance still has a few fancy gadgets at their disposal. This comes in the form of a C3 equipped lance using it to its full capacity. Despite the fact that the lance is linked together, they are, aside from the command Lao Hu, fairly light which has been a death sentence for other lances.Between clan tech or capellan trickery, we'll just have to watch the match to see who comes out on top.
>>97413333Would he be completely clanpilled by then though? I always thought he was just a malicious and insane little shit before daddy died, not wearing a fursuit.
>>97413054I am begining to think there are Clan players who may be fun. I'm scared.

>what kind of controls should a mech have
>>97413436In a what might spell the end immediately for the capellans, Empress's C3master mech disappears alongside her Lao hu as the AC10 ammo explodes, shattering the connection that was allowing their mechs to get good hits on the clan second line units. As the fight closes into melee, the gibbon's hunchback begins to show that an ac20 is an ac20 no matter the era.>>97413417If you are going to play clans you have to go full retard or its no fun at all.
>>97413466AFter losing both the raven and the sha yu, the Capellan Chimera miraculously is evening out a 1v4, blasting the leg off the opposing baboon and smashing the ct into dust with a kick. Immediately after blowing the gyro out of the fox and causing it to go down to critical engine failure from earlier TACs.It's still an uphill battle as there is a live hunchback and vision quest and the damage is piling up and the chimera has lost all but one weapon
>>97413450This is all the stick you need, freebirth
>>97413505In a stunning, but very capellan turn of events, the chimera flees the field. Ending the match with a victory for the gibbon grenadiers in a very anti climatic but less expensive fashion. And with that all round of 16 matches have concluded and with a top 8 decided, we can look forward to more engrossing mech matchups in the future.
I want a mechwarrior videogame with deep role play gaming outside the mechwould this be kino or cringe?
Since people are bringing up joysticks, is there one you guys would recommend for MW4? I got the game running and would like to finally play it but after a few minutes of testing it became clear to me it was made with a joystick in mind.
>>97412928Given the conditions on the planet per the HDSB, reducing the initial population might mean they won't survive long enough to 'fix' their JS and found the off-world colonies that make them relevant, or might loose key specialists before they manage to fix the ship.Eh. I think I'll just retcon the whole Muskegon polity out of this alt-history - say it was never founded in this TL. It means the Feddies and Tikonov have one less reason to hate each other, but it's not like that area of space is short of reasons for that, right?
>>97413582Saying "kino or cringe" is cringe, but I'm pretty sure people always liked walking around the Battletech world and talking to your fellow pilots and your techinicians. If you properly balance how much you get to pilot a mech vs how much you get to do between sorties so it doesn't feel like a chore you have to do between the fun mech parts then you should be fine.
>>97413600>>97413582You can move around static screens of the dropship in the BattleTech game, interact with some crew, and it has no impact. There are random events that pop up again as static screens with a choice for you to select. The MechWarrior 5 game has some decently animated cut scenes, but no interaction or rpg.
>>97413606Thank you Captain Obvious.
>>97413583No, it wasn'tIf you're joystickwarrior you will just fall over dead from not being able to instantly alpha strike core everything you come across in lategame on hard.
Biggest change I'm noticing from MW to MM/board game is that you can't aim for specific components except when an aimed shot occurs and I haven't read what triggers those. Fundamentally fucks with my choice of mechs.
>>97413652It's also probably best to give the Battlemech Manual a read since you've gone from video games to tabletop. But, if you remember to, you are making those called shots at immobile mechs
>>97411899But they have AI? From interpreting brain scans to walking to interpreting complex terrain to making sense of garbled sensor data, pretty much every step of operating a mech is AI-assisted.They also use robots in industry whenever possible. What they do not have is our active wealth-transfer scam.
>>97413606even full motion games in the 1990s gave you more impactful choices
>>97413673Example?
>>97411354B. love pulse lasers.BUTI feel a jag is not a jag without the missiles. Ideally, a C with pulse lasers over the ac2s.
>>97413676Starfleet Academy. You had to a lot of full video interactions outside the flight simulations and had to carefully manage your trainee crew and their interactions to get the best result, this was part of the story and permanent not just a random number generator saying you found frozen triple f burgers and someone might be sick for 30 days afterwards for the umpteenthdozen time.
>>97411851Fuck off manic, don't you have another looney tunes plot yo hatch to kill your mom?
>>97413672>What they do not have is our active wealth-transfer scam.lmao he doesn't know
>>97413700Ah yes, the virgin scripted railroad fmv is far superior to the chad rng in-game event chain.
>>97413700>>97413676Even Jagged Alliance did it better.
>>97413769Jagged Alliance isn't an FMV game but I'll agree with you it did it better
>>97413738NGL the managment layer in HBS battletech is genuinely awful. It doesn't do anything interesting and you have very little control over any of what it does do. It's not the focus of the game and that's fine, the "important" (if barebones) injury and refit times along with debt payment and fixing the Argo is adequate, but there is no real emergent story or side content that comes from it; it's just pop ups to fill empty space.Honestly Mechwarrior 5's news ticker is more engaging, as at least it relates to BT lore and gives you information on variant availability and world events (which can help you keep track of when DLC campaigns start).Neither are a real simulation or RPG.
>>97412265>>97412313>>97412356>>97412409>>97412466>>97412486>>97412497That seems like it was a pretty entertaining match. You might also want to count pilots that have ejected as autofled since it does seem to cause issues with the AI. Also is there any way to make the replay show who is who as its kind of hard to follow what is going on?
>>97411571orphan stompers regiment would CLEARLY be a capellan force. Don't kid yourself, dracon. We yellowmen are unmatched in petty spite. We WILL send ninjas (that you don't have) to plant charges on your assault mech. You WILL not notice and even if we fail we WILL try again.
>>97413791The fact that structure repairs, injuries, and travel cost time and you have to pay large sums of money every month hugely shapes player behavior even before you get into going for a high score. Crew Morale hugely effects how often you get to use your special abilities in combat, which are a key way to actually win the fights you get thrown into. I'm not sure how much more story you want that isn't the main questline and the dlc side quests.
>>97413842the monthly paying bills shit was retarded in both MW5 and brownperipherytech. It's already obnoxious how armor is paper until you get an assault mech, having to max out c-bill payments just to keep up with the always-increasing minimum, which puts you in a death spiral where you're ALWAYS paying an entire lance's worth just to repair and refit one or two mechs. By the time you're sitting comfortable on money you're in the missions where half the team HAS to be assault mechs.
>>97413842I don't really care that much about it; but RPG it ain't.
>>97413842>paying bills is sufficient for rpg and storywut
When I imagine rpg what I imagine is when you get to an enemy base you dont just have your mech stand in it for X turns - you have to actually get out of your mech and go do shit.Or when you are hired to go after pirates _how_ do you do that? You need to find out where they are, figure out how to get there, and finally where on that planet. And then what: hot drop on top of them, storm in cross country, sneak in?
>>97413867Sounds like you have a major skill issue. You didn't even realize that max armor heavies are the real meta. Also the bill payment stuff is take directly from tabletop campaign play. >>97413912You are playing a very specific roll, that of an elite mercenary engaging in very short range contracts where the employer (usually) gives you everything you need to know and you just have to figure out a way of winning the battle while taking as little damage as you can.
>>97413940>dont do anything but go here and stomp that
>>97413311Ah shit, now I can hear the theme in my head.
>>97413940sounds like alot of autism. Since when did fucking ComStar have an ever increasing bill payment that bankrupted mercenary outfits? Also you're admitting the damage values against armor is broken, so I accept your concession.
>>97413912Why should I get out of my mech to do the job of the Mechanized CI or Battle Armor detachment that I've paved the way for?
Mass Effect 1 but you have to drive rbe Mako more often, except it's not Mako but your mech.
>>97413968I would assume there is a companion function where you can highlight a target and give orders, for infantry you've recruited that could be 'occupy building'So there would be options to do that, but where's the fun? I guess what I imagine would focus on a smaller lance size mercenary unit or a bounty hunter team where the characters have in and out of mech skills
>>97413982That's not a Hermes II
>>97413966It's not a debt after the prologue, it's maintenance fees on your active mechs, pilot and tech salaries and upkeep on your white elephant dropship. The c-bill numbers are a bit out of whack but then they always are.
>>97414128Yes it is.
>>97414163At the start of the game the c-bill numbers are about half as much as an equivalent force made using CamOps
>>97414317does that factor era, quality, size, and being in debt?
>>97413025I drive a shitty electric train for a living. I gotta have my throttle
How can manufacturers make bad mechs when they have over 1k years of the same weapons and equipment doing the same thing at the same ranges and for the same damage and heat?
>>97414429how can nations and clans manufacture different mech models of the same weight and speed profile
>>97414429In 2018 and 2019, two Boeing 737 MAXes crashed, smashing into the firmament killing all on board; these based on the faulty MCAS anti-stall system. Boeing was founded in 1916, and thus these incidents come from one of the oldest manufacturers in aviation over a century after their founding. The earliest jet airliners were built about 70 years ago now, and if we were to model them in Battletech they would be similar in most respects other than tonnage (with the de Havilland Comet being 51 tons and the 737 MAX in its heaviest configuration being closer to 91 tons). For this development, the 737 MAX is only a third again as fast as the Comet, though it carries roughly ten times the passengers. Put differently: after 70 years of airline development, they invented the airplane that kills you.You are asking me, how a company or industry that has been in operation for over a thousand years not make a bad product? You are asking the wrong question, in 1000 years, how could they not? There is no magical force that improves equipment or even makes identical equipment be built to the same quality over time. Battletech has a number of rules to reflect disrepair and defects, and chassis quirks represent developments and tradeoffs in manufacture. In short: Use your fucking brain. Applying the tabletop abstraction to the fiction and setting just makes you look like an idiot.
