I think the Heresy happening 10k years ago really sours my impression of most Chaos Marines. A Chaos Marine pinning you to a cross cause of slights suffered before society as you know it was even formed could in theory up the cosmic horror angle, but efforts to humanize and ground Chaos Marines and Primarchs even in the 41st millennium makes them seem really immature and whiny instead.
