No, because the only thing people would do is run terminators with thunder hammers and complain about losing all the time
>>
>>97476403
No, it'd just be another poorfag gateway and we already have enough of those. Can't tell you how many 40kfags started playing in second drawn by the plastic models and STILL haven't finished printing their models and yet they're buying all the new hotness and even new allied armies

I got book 20 back in the day and I'm starting again now. I see lots of guides online for chronological reading orders, but they're all different, can I not just read the books in release order? I'm not sure I can be arsed with pic related.
>>
>>97476555
Those chronological order flowcharts are mostly to put the ridiculous amount of slop BL published into perspective.
Reading the books in release order is fine, the only worthwhile advice you can get is on which books aren't worth reading.

pass I do not like how the new custodes infantry looks like. and this is the wrong calladius to the one I want. I would want to have another dread, this time not in resin, but buying a big box for just one , even big, model is too much. Definitly will buy 2-3 calladius, the ventis (for the jetpacks and weapons) and probably enough 2 of each dreadnought, so I have 3 of each type. Not sure if I want a Coronus. I like the idea of it, but looking at the size and the "custodes price adjustment" I expect it to be priced like a super heavy tank and not a flying land raider. What I definitly have to do is to buy 3 more boxs of allarus. Maybe 4.
>>
>>97476600
I think those tanks would look better in a slightly different paint scheme

>>
>>97476600
the troops look like dogshit and the dread/tank fortunately look 100% like the ccurrent ones except the new dread looks worse with an uglier spear.

Definitely just buying wartablegames recasts for 70% cheaper than that ugly shit.
>>
>niggas name dropping bottom tier recasters again
>>
>>97476682
Anon it is worse. You think it is long. but when someone puts it up against the old short dicks, they somehow seem to be the same size. And the old cocks are still thicker.

I understand your pain.
>>
>>97476600
If the tanks are sub $90 I'll get them.
>>
>>97476682
It took me a bit to realize what was looking off to me and it finally hit me.
Its not actually the waist, though those do look bad, Its actually the head.

See the old Cata terminators had those half heads, they were sunk into the terminator bodies so it gave the perception that they were sitting deep in these big ass hulking suits of armor, These having full heads dont have that illusion anymore, they just feel like regular dudes.
>>
>>97476721
You're free to give away the good ones so we can report them to James and ruin your fun.
>>
>>97476787
I already named the one and only good one. Haven't had to refund any orders yet, and 4x cheaper than the dogshit coming from ukraine/russia/ebay.
>>
>>97476721
Still better than FW
>>
>>97476774
it's never one thing, that's a retard's tendency to try to simplify things because reality is complex. The waists look fucking garbage, the hands are a fuckup, the heads are a fuckup, the shoulders are a fuckup, the cock-bumps chest-tray is a fuckup, the loadouts provided are a fuckup, the shrinkflation price increase is a fuckup, going from 10 per box to 6 and eventually 3. Anyone buying them is a complete sucker.
>>
>>97476813
The only point of improvement on the new catas is the leather straps being more detailed. Everything else is objectively a downgrade.
>>
Why did GW feel the need to redesign the FW minis and make them worse in almost all cases?
>>
>>97476843
It has to be spite. GW designers must have been seething about FW doing marines better.
>>
>>97476853
It literally is spite. Citadel has always wanted to define what real 30k/40k is, so when Forge World stuff became well known, the Citadel team got jealous, and used Alan Bligh's death to overwrite it. They want their vision over all. One example of this is the Imperium can't lose, because that would impact sales. So they have been fix-fic'ing a bunch of the Imperial Armor and HH black books to make them "good guys win." They did this with Taros Campaign, where Tau won in IA3 but then they released the Aeronautica Fixfic where the Imperium came back and won with only planes, no infantry or land forces needed. They released a new version of Dropsite Massacre where they turned the "massacre" into "good guys even traded thanks to stuff Bligh didn't invent haha gotcha". It's a mess.
>>
>>97476843
to punish those that bought models in the past. As GW that is today, hates the GW of yesteryears. Even if some of the people are the same.

Two questions for the thread

1: Does anyone have any more of the audio books, got Era of Ruin from the anon a week a go and really enjoyed it!

2: Anyone have any suggestions for 3rd party drop pods? I'm wanting to work towards a drop pod assault style army and don't want to spend a shit zillion pounds or use the new ones.

TQ: Not with the current Kill Team mechaics. Smaller skirmish 30k Yes, but not the kill team game it currently is.

Release order is perfectly acceptable.
The problem with taking advice from others on which books to skip is that there will always be someone or several that tell you each book you're asking about is shit. best to just find out yourself, they're not long reads individually anyway.

Shame that the new lore is so retarded and tries to retcon so much without need.

If you're going for pre-Heresy, pic related Solar Auxilia worked with them, so they'd make a good candidate. As for kits, with SA you're mainly limited to rifles and some pistols & ccw options. For flamers and grenade launchers you need to look for recasters selling the old resin models. For heavy stubbers you need to start converting or wait for the rotor cannon veletaris.

Yes, but it also meant several things:
1. It was another Imperial Armour, which are GOAT. The Tactical Journal wish they were Imperial Armours
2. It was the official introduction of 30k Battle Automata to main 40k. This all was before 8E's unification of Skitarii and Cult Mechanicus codices. Had Cyraxus been released, it'd be 3 editions that 40k could've forced the release of more mechanicum models. Which it did...it released DaVinci Skitarii. That's what no robots does to a motherfucker.
3. Tau would've needed battlesuits to match Automata. Battlesuits is nice. Hopefully Crisis-sized instead of yet more Riptide flavors

I played Titanicus today, still gearing my buddy up for Adepticon. 1750 is a whack points level to prepare for after having so many 2.5k games.
Morts won after completing their secondary objective, but they paid for it in many lives. It's one of the nice little details of Titanicus that actually destroying a titan is very difficult. Only an 8-10 roll on a d10 is actual destruction of the titan everything else is just the titan falling down.

T-rex and the embassy there would block a lot of Blastermaster's shots, but the two of them slung a lot of firepower at the enemy warbringer. Stripes's push up the flank would end poorly, but after the warlord's destruction Barnum Brown would be able to level its firepower onto the dire wolf. I don't care much for warbringers. Stripes would actually lose this combat. It got a faulty charge off on the reaver, dealing almost as much damage to itself, and said reaver then simply blew it in half at point blank range. The double melta dog similarly would lose its combat to Jim, the Moderatii Wounded critical damage preventing it from using its melta incisors efficiently, while Jim would summarily blast its head off with the laser blasters. For its cost the double melta loadout simply isn't good enough (at least without stratagems to support but we're not sure how Adepitcon is going to play with those yet so we didn't use them).

The dire wolf was destroyed in the same turn as the warhound, releasing the virulent payload which would earn Mortis's victory. This actually activated the ruptura maniple's ability but nothing really came of it since Jim's locomotor's were seized at this point. While they didn't destroy the reaver that warhound's melta guns were still brutal in the short range.

We went into turn 5, but after my opponent flumped the order rolls and I hit the emergency repairs neither of us could do enough damage to score another kill. Jim backs off and Barnum Brown moves to bodyblock the princeps senoris. T-rex and Blastermaster try to unload into the enemy warbringer but nothing comes of it.
To be honest smaller point games like this feel really limited. Titanicus is besticus when you have enough leeway to play whatever you want and you really need to be at around 1800+ for that. Even that 50 point drop cuts out a lot of options.

>That's what no robots does to a motherfucker.
robots have been rare since Chapter Approved: Imperial Robots in August 1988 described them as

>several thousand cohorts, although only a percentage of these is ever active at any one time. Each cohort is in turn organised into maniples of three, four or five Robots plus a Legion tech-adept. The number of maniples in a cohort varies, but is rarely more than 100. However a cohort is usually spread across an entire Marine force of several Chapters or a single Army. Battles involving more than 4 or 5 maniples are rare. This is not to say that they have never occurred - during the Horus Heresy in particular large numbers of Robots were committed by both sides in an effort to minimise human casualties until a decisive final battle could be fought.

so typically a 40k robot appearance should be no more than 25 robots at the very high unusual end (probably lower given they have different roles and should require different maniple deployments)

but at the top end, a cohort is 5000 robots at the high end with every maniple of 5 and 100 maniples

say there were "several", well, "several" is less than "many" but more than "two" (or one if you're a pedant, but I'm not about to be lectured by a pervert); it's realistically single figures or low double figures; even if it were 99 (which would put it comfortably into "dozens" territory) the number of robots total would top at half a million, or a million if you suppose Horus had "fully half" as the old fluff goes and the rest were replaced like for like in the Imperium (WD104 was before the Imperium was a failing shitshow), and if you allow for them all being active at once

this is less than there are Marines in 40k (nominally) and by design spread much thinner; leaving aside whether fucking Lorgar or Kurze would "minimise human casualties", you shouldn't have that many robots, and I don't see anybody crying about electro-priests getting sidelined by skitarii

now that combi-bolters are just bolters with twice the shots?

look, say you have BS4 and before you used to be able to reroll your shots if you missed, using BS4 for both rolls

you go from 2/3 to Hit to a very fucky 5/6

and say your targets are all T4 with a 3+ save and 1W

so under the old system you'd have [[2/3*1/3]+2/3]*1/2*1/3 to kill that guy, which is why so many of you are morons - see where it's adding one probability to another? that's not natural in probability, and we have to do moron mathematics to make it work, but we've made it work and it comes down to oh let's call it 1/7, even though it's slightly better than that (but nowhere near 1/6)

now if you didn't have that unnatural thing in there you'd just have 2/3*1/2*1/3 which is 2*1*1 (which is 2, guys) over 3*2*3 (it's 18, big-brain) or, since they're both divisible by 2, reducible to and identical with 1/9

all bolter shots at BS4 vs T4 with a 3+ save are therefore 1/9, taking more of them doesn't make them better (because, for the last time you craps-table-dodging cocksuckers, you can't add the results of probabilities and demand a payout, it's unnatural and irrational to do so, and you only get to do it with rerolls because of a specific instruction to do it, which is the only reason it applies there from the mathematical pov, and which no longer exists)

volkite starts at S5 so vs that same target at BS4 it's... 2/3*2/3*1/3, which you'll note is also 4/27 or another fucky 1/7, the exact same one in fact but without the screwing around

so yes, any targets, literally any targets, why are you so stupid, you dumb fucking moron
>>
>>97479117
>>97479163
>>97479176
Going by Str and number of shots, 2-shot Volkite chargers would be equal to 4-shot combi-bolters against T6 targets. Plus Deflagrate, they would be better. Against T5 combi-bolters are better, and Deflagrate would only push the scales towards volkite if the armour save is low enough, maybe
>>
>>97479236

>>
I think for general purpose you're better off with combis

more range, more dakka
plus nothing is as cool as mag dumping a unit in the back as they run away because cataphractii are always gonna pick gun down
>>
You're all autistic retards, it literally doesn't matter, the difference is never more than a single wound vs the only targets that matter, and any terminator shooting their guns is retarded anyway because it'll only make your charge harder. Just take whatever you think looks cooler.
>>
>>97479246
So T6 models and Militia, at the cost of being worse against other things and a lower range.

On normal models theres also the advantage of chargers being assault weapons.

>>
>>97479180
As someone that is obsessed with them robutts with the way 40k armies of the time were structured if we go by fluff normally you would have a single maniple (1-5 robots) for army list because each game is a slice of a battlefield. Not that old rules barred you from having more, the rogue trader rules didn't, adeptus titanicus didn't, I don't think even the "new" 40k did and as you said there were 5-ish maniples in the most important ones. When talking about the HH in RT they even said entire battles were just fought by robots to avoid casualities. Cyraxus was different because during, near the end of the heresy or after(I don't remember) they decided to stockpile every battle automata the army stationed there had because they weren't too trustworthy. Try hitting one with cybertheurgy and get snake eyes on your rolls in 1.0 and you will see what that means. They were there in storage to defend it in case of a huge threat to throw at the enemy which is just what the tau were. So they took them out of storage but the time spent there changed them and they were meant to have rules to represent them going slightly insane. This is what we knew according to the leaks and then cyraxus never happened for a lot of reasons. It was meant to be a way to bring them into 40k which according to a lot of people has become a nono for GW but back then who the fuck knew what happened, some said that the reason was the edition changed and the book was for the older one because FW wasn't informed and other reasons like just sheer spite. We will never know the full truth.

Yeah very much so. But volkite looks high tech, so i'd like it to be viable, you know? Very good consideration
>you'll only make your charge harder
Depends on how far you are. If you are a mere 3" away after setup, go for it? If you need a 5" and there's no set up...maybe. If you can afford it, still do it? At 6" you aren't getting there anyways, might as well volley some?
On power armour squads, volkite chargers triumph over combi-bolter units, which often only have their bolt pistols to volley (the player's saving Return Fire/OW elsewhere)
>>97479297
Armour saves decrease the effect of Deflagrate. At 5+ save (ignored by AP5), Deflagrate overcomes combi's higher rate of fire. Test is both T3 units, but one's 5+ Militia and the other is 4+ SA.
But the result is the same across all toughnesses: Chargers > Combi-bolters against 5+ saves; Unarmoured is their target.
Are there T4-7 models with 5+ saves? Too bad there's no Orks during the civil war after the Great Crusade. Daemons and Thralls, I guess?

If you want a full set of ten chainswords for a squad, you’re better off buying the melee weapons kit or finding a recaster off etsy or something. That said, the current 40k vanguard veterans kits will give you fancier looking chainswords along with a fair amount of other melee weapons and more. Consider if you want blinged out stuff or standard run of the mill equipment.

I started building a unit of veteran breachers. First 5 I knew how to arm. 2 axes, 2 maces, claw on the sgt. But now I should be the next five. Arming them with chainswords seems kind of a lame, but going full power swords or mix of lances/maces makes the unit a "bit" high cost for a non rare unit.

Any tips on how to build an optimal veteran breacher squad ? Do you guys still give them special weapons, because that would fix 2 how to arm slots ?

you're going to need to dial them in concerning size and put in a lot of effort with a dremel tool to partially undo the tr00scale fuckery concerning the mkVs
i arrived at 75% scale with the whole of them save the head which gets to be 90%
be prepared to carve out the upper face of the legs a little, give a chamfer to the flat bit of the abdominal hemisphere thingy, remove a significant amount of resin from the lower concave area of the torso and also carve out volume where the head sits to a good extent
the saturnines work very well when printed at 85% scale for seating on 50mm bases but their heads i kept at 100% though i'm using other sorts outright frequently

Yea, they ignored the random retard on twitter and reiterated the party line (that as far as the lore is concerned there were always female custodes).

Correct. Their official position is "in universe this has always been the case, shut up, move on, buy models". In what world would it ever be anything different? Thats their position on every change in the lore, from grav guns to hellfrost weapons to contekar and saturnine dreadnoughts.

There's a very specific definition of remaining stationary this edition, and it's a voluntary choice you make during your movement phase. And thus lasts until your next movement phase. Even if you decide not to/forget to do anything with a unit, you've chosen to remain stationary and to not attack

Rapiers are also just "thematically cool", theyre the turret section unit. You can imagine them being deployed from hiding positions during an ambush, or as a desperate defensive measure, gunning down the foe from behind their shields (moreso the old ones I guess)

Tarantulas are just shitty NPC turrets, lacking in personality or any real appeal.

my nigga if a structure is frail enough to crumble in sections beneath the tread of an astartes it can readily be reduced to rubble in its entirety with bolter fire
>>
>>97483715
Yeah its rough, like on flat sections im a lot better on, or small things, but like yeah that particular spot was rough because i was not sure how light would hit it

Either by attempting to recreate that which they do not sufficiently understand, or failing to understand why they should want to recreate it.

I personally think there's a bunch of people who don't really like existing designs and think they can do better in the team but who knows.

night lords frequently have plate with essentially the same shit going on but they use it to display gay arcing electrical patterns
last i was made aware it's a thin layer of material capable of displaying even shifting images and such. it's a capability potentially on hand even if it too is gay

Hope to see you at adepticon titanicus singles brother
>>
>>97483937
Nah, not me. If I get the days off approved I'll look into i but that won't happen for a week at the earliest. Probably I'm gonna ask the club if they wanna have adepticon at home but even that is unlikely.

God I cant wait to build my shield captain with a female head and get the local spergs finally kicked out of my nearby store.

I'm so shit at heads too but I can just replace that later.
>>
>>97483976
Why not just copy a page from the Iron Hands players and magnetize the head?
>>
>>97483976
Get some house escher heads for that tough-chick-that-might-be-gay look.

Why? What's their crime, anon?
>>
>>97483989
Interesting idea. If I can be bothered I will that way I could swap to the female head when someone starts showing signs of being a chud.

>>97484004
I've never seen them irl. Are the heads that shit or is it just the paint job?

>>97484034
I can get a laugh seeing people sperg out online. Being around it irl however is the cringiest shit imaginable.

Matte red could probably break the look up better than having it all metallic.

Just make sure to mask it well seeing that magnets can be fiddly, or else he might catch on. Anon's Escher idea might be way too obvious.

Chip off the spikes from the underside of the Iron Halo and he could fit as a Champion or other Consul. Or just paint him up as World Eaters.

Here is the truth a lot of size autists forget.
When you are playing a game, and looking down at them at like 45 degrees at normal table height, you are never going to notice the difference.
The only time you will is if someone points it out.

The proportion and size is literally a self made issue.
>>
>>97484430
Why not? AL were all sneaky beaky only until it was time to kill everyone it makes sense for them to have a couple badasses.
>>
>>97484584
I have an army of mixed mk4, old metal centurions/consuls, and new mk6/centurions/consuls, and you can actually tell.
this is a nogames take. consider playing an actual game with mixed model scales.
>>
>>97484592
No, you cant, because i do to, and the only reason you think you notice is because you make it a point in your concious thought. You will not notice them unless you explicity point it out nad go looking for it.

Source i have been in this hobby for like 15+ years and seem the scale creep through out the game, its literally a nothing fucking burger.
>>
>>97484714
>You will not notice them unless you explicity point it out nad go looking for it.
NTA, but you're retarded if you think you can't make this argument in the exact opposite way, that you're ignoring it because you don't want it to be true. I've included my very first marines as seekers in my blackshields army and while you may not notice while they're on their own, it's definitely noticeable in combat or mixed in with other plastic or tortuga.
