>>
>>97508037
Gameplay wise with the 10e codex they pay very fairly, their army rule directly rewards you for playing for objectives (bonuses to hit enemy units on objectives, then switches to bonuses to hit while on objectives) with few weird tricks. There aren't any truly unplayable models, but some really shine (Thunderkyn, Beserks, Steeljacks). Their default detachment (Needguard Oathband) is solid but their skew detachments can do very well too, like Delve Shift Assault giving your Beserks deep strike and making them battleline.
Cost-wise they're not the most cost efficient right now, after the price increases a lot of non-battleline infantry units are damn near $1/point new but for a 2k point army, but your obligatory 2 Hekaton Land Fortresses will safely eat up 480 points. Most of the box set releases have been solid but still aren't great $/point.

I've sometimes pondered if the Mechanicus view the human form as a thing to be removed entirely. Is there room in their belief that the design of the human body might itself have some amount of divine design, and it being made of inferior organic matter is simply a trial through which to walk the path of ascendance to the purity of the machine?
>>
>>97508123

>>
>>97508076
I mangled the shit out of this post
play*
but for a 2k point army, your obligatory*
I'll also add Votann tend to suck at 1000 points, so if you're going to buy into dorfs you will want to commit to a 2000+ point army. If you're looking to go for the default Needguard detachment, you could either double up on 10e Combat Patrols to secure a full unit of Thunderkyn and Hearthguard (dorf terminators), but you could also hunt down a 9e combat patrol box which will have the sprue for Uthar and Hernkyn Pioneers (hoverbikes). After that it all depends on how you want to play your dorfs first, but if you can find one of the original army release boxes for a reasonable price that would be a great get to, I think that was the only time a Hekaton was included in a box.

Have armies ever gotten smaller on average between editions?
Always see people wanting the average games size to go down but it really seems like this is not something that will ever go back, bigger armies sell more models.
>>
>>97508130
The way I always see it is that they view the human body as divine design, but flawed and to be improved. Otherwise Mechanicus would just stuff their brain in a big full robot body. It's also why they rarely go for more radical cybernetics that could legitimately be an improvement.
>>
>>97508037
They got one of THE BEST written codexes in the edition, pretty fun to play.
>>
>>97508215
AOS saw a significant point hike making armies smaller.
fantasy also kinda did between 8th-current tow.

Honestly 40k also had smaller armies to start with in tenth, but the design philosophy of balancing armies by making them cheap as hell has kinda led to shit like admech and tau spiraling out of control into these mega horde armies.
>>
>>97508072
A certain chinesium seller made a mold of them and is selling a "box" for 18 bucks. Minor imperfections.
>>
>>97508076
>>97508037
yeah, i collect them too, and the 10th edition rework saw them pretty much double the cost $$$ of collecting the army, when they transitioned from an elite specialist army to a budget trading army, the points costs on all the units ended up being cut in half (they werent at first, and GW actually tried leaving their new incompetent rules barren profiles with their old points and they had a 25% winrate for the first 3 months of the edition lol), for example my 3500pt army from 9th edition was barely a playable 2000pts in 10th when all the adjustments were done. what this means is that the cost to buy a full army has doubled in the last few years. maybe not THE most expensive army in the game, but definitely a top contender

gameplay they are a budget trading army thats got cheap mooks with decent-ish profiles that can also split its units into impossibly efficient micro squads via its transports. more of a shooting army than melee, though it isnt completely helpless in melee like tau, just doesnt have a ton of attacks or particularly high strength melee, so its good into like marines and terminators, but struggles into wound dense or high toughness melee targets like 20 boyz or a tyranid MC. most of its offense is mid range 20-30" shooting profiles, its decently mobile but i wouldnt call it "fast", but definitely not slow. its got a lot of transports but bad transport capacity, so it can only transport smaller units, and in general it doesnt have great buff pieces for lots of big giant squads, prefers to split into smaller units and focus on spreading out and scoring. it can split 100 and 90 pt squads into essentially 2x 50pt or 45pt squads which is just insanely efficient for scoring and screening. it can also be tough when it wants to, the army has generally high toughness all around and land fortresses can be particularly difficult to crack.
>>
Linking multiple rhinos with chains to make a rhino train, the ultimate troop transport
>>
>>97508215
My memory is a big hazy but I think armies technically got a bit smaller in the 8th index era. Half of the problem though is 2000 points now being "standard" when 1500 or 1750 used to be more common.

yeah but boarding action doesnt allow for bigger models, which means all the combat patrols would have to be pretty much infantry only like the boarding action boxes were.

spearhead can see one side thats a bunch of grots and trolls face off against another side that has a landraider sized carnosaur and the game still works.

a number of reasons for that, like built in anti-snowball mechanics, rules to get free models late game so you're never out of gas, and units that have different or missing weapon profiles from their full game counterparts like the carnosaur missing one of his attack profiles, so it works better in the small format and doesnt steamroll people

I don't think they should make combat patrol good. IMO it only exists so that kids who get a starter box for Christmas can do something with their new toys without having to buy any more, and trying to actually balance it would fuck with the box's main utility as a discount army core/expansion.
I don't really need it deleted but I'm perfectly content with it being ignored.

That's not what I meant. Balancing the combat patrol as it's own game would fuck with the box as a mainline army discount box. I think having good 40k discount boxes is more important than balancing a sideshow game, but there's no point in killing the sideshow game either. Just keep doing what they're already doing now.

Last 40k game I played, around 1998, my Kreig Captain fighting to the end after his battalion was wiped out by Dark Angels. Damn their teleporting and ambushing marines! We played using 4th edition, as even then, the Churn, constant powercreep and squatting was beginning to piss us off.

We mostly play historicals now though (Bolt Action, Squad Leader, etc) as we prefer reading/researching about real campaigns and the exploits of real people/heros. Also, the 'model range' in historicals is fixed, a tiger tank in Tunisia will always be a tiger tank in Tunisia, with no chance of a flying Tiger tank armed with ten lasers's being fielded. I find 40k to a bit silly and childish compared to what happens in the real world, good if you want light relief, but not to be taken to seriously. (like some sunk cost autists here do).

Nurgle got its own demon engines, khorne already has a demon engine of its own, generic undivided demon engines are less likely to fit well in armies like thousand sons and emperor children.

Layer your highlights. Paint deeper shadows. I can see vaguely airbrushed volumetrics, push them further. Do something with the blank canvases of the right shoulder and power fist.

It's been said that the Inquisition is aware of the increasingly overt coordination between the Dark Angels and their successors, but for the time being they are simply observing the situation as they believe the Dark Angels might serve as a counterweight against Guilliman's influence. As for Guilliman himself, he seems to be okay with chapters pooling resources and establishing joint command structures, so he presumably doesn't think there's an issue in principle.

The Tech Priests view the Machine God as not a god but GOD (with a capital G). They believe him to be the creator of the material universe and even the Warp. He is the full sum of all knowledge. Some sects of the Admech and Darkmech view Vashtorr (the Warp Demigod of technology) and the Void Dragon and the rest of the C'tan (manifestations of the fundamental fabric of the universe) as avatars and angels of the Machine God.
But that means that he created the Xenos and their technologies as well. The Warp and its corruption are part of the Machine God's tapestry of creation.

How does the Admech cope with this?
>>
>>97510556
I wouldn't stop to think too carefully about the logistics, it's going to be nonsensically impractical very quickly.

Tyranids and chaos have the best solution anyway: their pods can just fly back up on their own.
>>

>>
>>97510726
>How does the Admech cope with this?
Xenos are impurities that turned from the holy vision of the Omnissiah. Their destruction is an act of correcting reality.
>>

Same way all other religions cope with the inconsistencies of an omnipotent/omniscient being
>deviations are an outside element
>deviations are a test for the faithful
>deviations are a necessary evil
The mechanicus is a sprawling enough cult that there are most definitely many interpretations and arguments, but I think the third option makes the most thematic sense, the admech already have a mental framework from their industrial ways for seeing things as byproducts of a larger process, or things that serve only at one point, later to be replaced or discarded
>>
>>97510753
>Being a pilot is a pretty respectable job.
This has the energy of someone who served as a "pilot" in the military but only ever flew random supplies around a hundred+ miles from the actual war but still demands to be called a hero and respected for his service.
>>
>>97510726
quite literally through cope. the catholic church once killed people for saying the sun orbited the earth, and yet they are around today. you just keep coping and spewing bullshit because you are indoctrinated into a cult. if it sounds right, its good enough. If an older, more abandoned Xenos civilization treats their machines like tools you most say they are backwards barbarians or demons enslaving the machine spirit against the Ominssiahs wishes.
>>
>>97510726
Real answer?
The admech believe the Machine God gifted humanity their sacred knowledge of technology. Human based tech is what is worshiped, the technology that xenos create is heretek.
This is also why the human form is seen as holy within the admech and why so many of their creations still follow the human form, changed as they are.
>>
>>97510761
>This has the energy of someone who served as a "pilot" in the military but only ever flew random supplies around a hundred+ miles from the actual war but still demands to be called a hero and respected for his service.

If you actually see drafts of some of the codex artwork they all start out like this and get refined in very high resolution over weeks of painting. >>
>>97510856
That was just politics

>>97510857
Galileo wasn't put on trial for supporting heliocentrism, he was put on trial because, while supporting heliocentrism, he published a pamphlet that insulted the Pope and called everyone that believed in geocentrism idiots. Remember that at the time his opposition was made of actual scientists, they weren't just religious nutcases. It would be like Einstein publishing a book of insults for every colleague that didn't instantly accept relativity.

>you really think no one in history EVER was harmed for saying so?
That's a very big goalpost move from saying the Catholic Church killed people for that reason. The Catholic Church was mainly a political organisation that used religion excuses for political reasons. Even the Inquisition was mainly just an excuse to strip wealthy Jews of their money.

Fair enough, but by delving into the depths of the realities of catholic church idealogical control you are
1. not actually attacking the substance of the original argument, its absolutely true the church used murder and violence to enforce its ideological positions and I'm sure you agree and you can draw parallels between the theological cope of real life religions and fictional ones in 40k
2. its not a goalpost move, because I never specified Galileo. You cannot say for certain the church never killed someone for taking that position or even that its unlikely

I fully admit that the church killing astronomers over heliocentrism is mythologized in pop culture and doesn't reflect the real historicity. I used it as a touch stone to draw analogies between examples of real world idealogical control and fictional ones and specifically avoided naming Galileo or Bruno.
>>
>>97510921
Not all hereteks worship chaos. Chaos hereteks obviously do, but you could simple be an apostate mechanicus worshipper who believed in novel things like just building shit that works, using computers, or employing alien technology. Chaos Hereteks would view chaos as the ultimate source of all knowledge, a regular heretek might just opportunistically view a C'tan shard as a source of power or knowledge.
>>
>>97510927
>You cannot say for certain the church never killed someone for taking that position or even that its unlikely
NTA but the inverse works too, we can't say for certainty that they did unless there is explicit evidence

I agree with this.
>2. its not a goalpost move, because I never specified Galileo. You cannot say for certain the church never killed someone for taking that position or even that its unlikely
Of course I can't be sure that in year whatthefuck in bumfuck nowhere a bishop once decreed that everyone not believing in geocentric was to be put to death because he tried some fantastic shrooms and had a vision of Jesus that told him so (even if I highly doubt something like that ever happened) but in general the Catholic Church as an organisation was nowhere as antiscience as it is depicted in pop culture. The Church was pretty good at adapting scripture interpretation to current scientific consensus, because for a shit load of times, scientific consensus was the church consensus. The Church absolutely enforced orthodoxy in terms of doctrine and morals, not science.

Heliocentrism was opposed by the church not because of scripture, it was opposed by the church because the church had a shitload of scientists in it that believed it to be a bogus theory. Galileo basically lucked out in his theory being correct, because even in his book of geocentrism Vs heliocentrism (the one where the guy supporting geocentrism was literally called Mr Simpleton) he dedicated one fourth of it in explaining how seatides are caused by the Earth and proved heliocentrism (which we now know that was bogus) and also only attacked an antiquated geocentrism theory that every actual scientist of the time considered surpassed, doing the equivalent of trying to disprove General Relativity by pointing at flaws on Newtonian physics.

I wonder if they actually forgot about Drukhari until very late this edition because they didn't appear in any of the road maps or preview shows, they got a leaked character model shelved from 2023 as their release with no press outside of a couple quickly fabricated Warcom articles, they got no store refresh or MTO run at all when their codex suddenly did drop on a random weekend with no preamble, their codex is full of typos and weird lore additions that read like AI gen, and they haven't even gotten an FAQ update for that codex months later.

Gray Knights have more than more unique datasheets than most marine codexes though. And Deathwatch just needs special rules and one or two unique datasheets just like Blood Angels. @USAChads now is the time to collect EC. I got the Lords of Excess battle force for $190 and the Blissbound Warband battle force box for $210. After that it’s just HQs and rhinos. If you’re more patient than I am I’m sure the boxes will go cheaper in a year or so maybe as far down as the Imperial Agents battle forcess. (~180). As the standard of play? Unlikely, I don't think anyone at GW has a problem with their game requiring players to buy more models, and if anything the game needs to be streamlined better as an army game. One of the issues with the more skirmish-oriented ruleset of 2nd edition was that it worked great for a handful of models interacting at a time, but once you hit double digits, especially in melee, it got very tedious.
