This fucker is right at home in the cube of shame. It’s just a hot dog stand. Not some magical artifact that lets you conjure creatures and spells. Apparently a hot dog is just as good as any magical talisman for summoning demons, angels, etc. just bizarre.

My sister invited me to another sealed event with her colleagues. For some reason we built decks with 10 packs. I somehow managed to go 3-0 again in best-of-one. Took me a while do decide what I should run, I knew it would be Orzhov, but it took me a while to settle on splashing green for just 2 Wildvine Pummelers rather than including green ramp.

Eirdu, Wildvine and Sun-Dappled Celebrant are absolute beasts if you can keep them on the battlefield. I managed to assemble a combo with Reaping Willow and Champion of the Weird after getting my board almost completely cleared by Sunderflock. I had to go down to 1 life with the blight ability just to clear my opponent's side of the board, but they didn't have any hasty elementals and Shimmercreep was able to drain him for just enough.

Playing Master Duel is such a fucking blackpill dude. Like you're constantly reminded of how little fucks Konami gives with the translation having Engrish everywhere, yet still the game designers are competent enough to explicitly point out interactions in the tutorial like "You have a monster negate before 5 summons, this protects you from Nibiru," while WotC does garbage like shit out Badgermole Cub then say "Oopsie we forgot Llanowar Elves was in Foundations, that one set we said we were using to establish the core powerlevel of Standard."

He is noticeably a different person as shown by the fact he is an actual clan leader instead of a murderous psycho killing everyone who he doesn't like.

Original Zurgo'$ horde literally deserted him because he charged into battles without any knowledge of the situation and killed his own soldiers for questioning. Now, because he had a different life that allowed him to see that being a rampaging berserker is usually bad for you, he became a better leader.
>>
>>97509378
This. You can even see this in the cards themselves. Dragonstorm Zurgo is a synergy piece for his faction mechanics and his spirit dragon, while orginal Zurgo has is just a hasted beater.

People are always posting how Magic makes less money than YGO in Japan where the numbers are actually published, but it's weird how nobody talks about how Master Duel makes over 10x what Arena and Online make combined despite being easy to use fully F2P without relying on constantly winning in draft.
>>
>>97509478
Yugioh in general is more famous then Magic among normies (the main audience of mobile games). The entirety of Universes Beyond is an attempt to patch this up.

In YGO going second means you're playing a petdeck supported by Mulcharmies and boardbreakers.
In Magic going second means you lost because your opponent is going to play a 1-drop that makes another body instantly.
>>
>>97509552
going second hasn't been this good in forever in yugioh funnily enough
dracotail has broken fimena and k9 has broken holy sue. Both decks can also run izunas just because
>>
>>97508619
They should have combined spider-man and TMNT into one set. Magic: The Gathering: Universes Beyond: Battle for New York City: Spiders vs. Turtles
>>
>>97509654
Going second in YGO has absolutely terrible for years, and it only started getting better as Konami printed massive boardbreakers and handtraps to help it.
It's really more a signal how bad Magic is now when more decks will choose to go second in YGO than in Magic (although Magic has never really had a point in history where going second was beneficial)

Arena took down Lorwyn limited and replaced it with Lorwyn Alchemy (which adds some custom cards).
Normally I wouldn't bother with these Alchemy sets but I kind of want to draft this one because Lorwyn was an interesting format that just needed support for more of it's archetypes, which they could easily have fixed with this.

Its your own fucking fault if you choose to put yourself through the unbridled humiliation ritual of attending an LGS in person and sitting down with a bunch of angry troons talking liberal politics while they play marvel characters on their star trek playmat. Probably take 5 minutes to set up their funko pops on the board pre-game.

Just use Zombify or Rite of the Moth.
>>
>>97511192
Well then it's even worse. In commander you can draw 2 cards and discard one or create two 2/1s with flying pretty fucking easy. The entire point of reanimator is to drop some crazy shit six whole turns ahead. Valgavoth, Etali, Atraxa, Archon of Cruelty, just some absolutely backbreaking tempo swing or a massively powerful unremovable juggernaut.
>>
>>97511208

They've said 7 is an outlier and they'll be going back to 6 for 2027. They don't usually lie about things like that because, well, they can't make a whole new set to fit in in the timeframe. I assume it's a scheduling issue because of some sets being unable to be moved too much (Star Trek for example, due to anniversary reasons).

Riftbound is rapidly growing near me. The chase cards already go for $100+

I can't see them doing a crossover while trying to get it off the ground. Dota would be a better target, especially given that Gabe N is an old-school nerd and undoubtedly had a MTG phase.

I'm really surprised we haven't gotten a Minecraft SLD or an NFL/NBA SLD, especially after TWD and Spongebob made the cut. Though I'm not sure they could get away with launching either as as full set.

DC Comics is ripe for the picking and always sweating to compete with Marvel, though Marvel might've gotten some level of comic book crossover exclusivity since they've historically tried not to wind up cross-promoting with the rare exception of comic book runs dedicated to it. Star Wars and Game of Thrones are always looking for a chance to recover lost brand value, so we might see those (plus GoT's houses lend themselves to the mana system in that weak, braindead way the current design team seems to really enjoy.) I have no doubt we'll see a dedicated X-Men run, I'm actually surprised it's not being treated as an aftermath set for Marvel given how the movies are likely to develop. If they don't manage to get From Software in 2027 then they're beyond retarded, Legend of Zelda is easy money too. Warcraft's TCGs have all fallen flat, so there's probably something there as long as the rights aren't split up. If not, Starcraft seems inevitable after the sci-fi waters testing done with EoE and Star Trek.

They've really gotta do something for the kids these days, though. And I have no idea how you do that unless you just straight-up go for TikTok or Twitch stars.. Uhhh... Maybe SCP? Fortnite un-set with a focus on crossover-ception? IDK

This. Never seen the writing on the wall more clearly that something was on its way out. It's over the hump of its shark-jumping phase and I'd be surprised if it survived the next recession in any meaningful way. Arena will survive and the competitive circuit will limp on until the boomers give up but as far as any mass appeal or wider relevance goes, it's a game far past its prime surviving on the ether of other struggling IPs.

That's the whole point. Questing Beast is a deeply misunderstood card that looks completely random at first glance. It was printed specifically to hose planeswalkers after WAR which OG Eldraine was right following. Everything about it makes it a nightmare for Planeswalkers. It can't get punked by any shitty little tokens they make, it has haste so it's immediately a threat planeswalkers cannot deal with that can still swing straight at the face for pressure, and it has deathtouch so even if a control deck has a big indestructible faggot on the board to defend them they still have to give it up to the beast to block.

It's the kind of card that needs to exist for aggro after you put 30+ planeswalkers in a set.

Multiples of the same character feels lazy, and makes the worlds feel smaller, like they ran out of characters to use.

With FF at least they had 15, or whatever they’re up to now, games to raid. It’s hard to fill out a magic set when it’s just one series or one game rather than a franchise.

>Non-were wolves and tribal support, give them a card that gives them Bands with Other Attackers or something

What kind of support would this actually be? It has absolutely nothing to do with wolves as a tribe and would be actively counterproductive to do. What kind of support is "your wolves can now all be collectively chumpblocked"?
>>
>>97515043
I mean taking out my Transformers and announcing each transform would be pretty funny in certain circumstances.
>>
>>97515050
It's really hilarious when people get up in arms about banding talking about how cool it was to attack on bands when you literally had no reason to ever band on the offense and it actively fucked you over. The only thing the mechanic was good for was blocking on a band, redirecting 20 damage to a single 1/1 while still killing the attacker and making board progress impossible for turn after turn after turn, but people don't feel nostalgic about that for some reason, wonder why.
>>
>>97514947

they spend 9 figures on each movie
>>
>>97515050
It's an effect for wolves to gang up on the attack so you can force the choice between taking all of the damage or losing their biggest blocker, a little dogpile sort of flavor, but I see how it's too little. It was the first idea that came to mind as something that could be relatively unique. it would make sense for Dogs to get W-anthem/lord effects, but wolves obviously have a more solid G-alignment so that group-power aspect would have to manifest in something like token generation or combat tricks (also we already have Immerwolf but that's werewolf support too).
>>97515091
I like the fantasy of my dudes teaming up to make one big force that's harder to deal with, fully recognizing that the existing rules to do so on defense are just different enough to be absolute cancer. Amass tried to do the same thing, but Army tokens they don't have the go-wide attacking or blocking power that the name would imply, so you get a 5/5 army of zombies chump-blocked by a saproling and have to imagine the combat being them all mindlessly attacking a single plant. I'd totally give Armies something like "can block a number of creatures equal to its toughness" and a hyper-menace "can only be blocked by X or more creatures where X is its power." Maybe give that to the wolves, "can't be blocked by a number of creatures less than the number of wolves you control."
>>
>>97514992
grok?
>>
>>97515043
It's not execs, but the law.
The Transformers brand avoids using the word "transform" to describe mode-changing, because if they did, any other change-o-bot making company could argue in court that the Transformers brand name describes what they do, not what they are, and thus the name is generic enough to be fair use. It WOULD hurt the brand if any bumfuck toyline could call themselves Transformers without consequence.
It's similar to how companies like Adobe and Lego have official statements describe how to properly refer to their products. You're not photoshopping something, you're using the Photoshop software to edit an image. They're not Legos, they're Lego bricks. These aren't the companies having their heads up their asses*, they're just protecting their brand from genericalization.

*Adobe does that in other ways.

>>
>>97515168
>It's an effect for wolves to gang up on the attack so you can force the choice between taking all of the damage or losing their biggest blocker
The problem is that this choice doesn't really exist. The way that banding works is that when you block one creature in it all of them are blocked. You can block a band with 50 creatures with one singular 1/1.
>>
>>97515291
no idiot you make a bunch of bands of 2
>>

>>

the controller of the band assigns all combat damage
player A loses 4 1/1s for 4 2/2s if player B blocks all 4 bands

>the exact perfect boardstate
>literally just fliers vs banders
you clearly have not played with banding, at least in the context it was designed for (unpowered/mostly unpowered old school), or you just really suck and missed a lot of things that should be obvious
banding is way better on defense, but when you can't use it defensively (such as when your dinky little 1/1s are up against that rarely played keyword, flying) you absolutely get value out of using it offensively
e.g. vs phantom monster
savannah lions + samite healer = lose
savannah lions + benalish hero = race
should banding come back? no
is banding fun? maybe like a little at most
but anyway, saying that "you literally had no reason to ever band on the offense and it actively fucked you over" is just showing how teeny tiny your little pea brain is
>>
>>97515420

1) enlist is a reference to banding, but it works differently. one guy is able to accept a bonus from anyone else, rather than one guy being able to give a bonus to anyone else
2) the modern type of well-tuned limited environment is nothing like playing with an old school starter + some crappy cards from boosters
you clearly have not played extensively with banding and just took all your opinions from a youtube video or an article or whatever

Duskmourn I don't think so, the setting is fine as an one-off. It doesn't have much space. Blocks are supposed to accompany the slower changes to a setting and Duskmourn doesn't have much space for gradual change. The plotline worked fine for a setting as limited as it; go in, get what you want, leave.

EoE I sort of agree but I think the plot we got was really good and it wouldn't really work if we stretched it over for two sets, and I wouldn't want to lose it. Maybe a set about Sothera and another with the Wurmwall.

I feel that loses the appeal of Duskmourn for me, which is that it's a world where evil has already won. If we cut away that and do the pre-Valgavoth-has-taken-over status quo first it becomes much more generic, it's basically an 80s magitek plane Shadows over Innistrad/Eldritch Moon but Emrakul takes over the plane, I guess.

I like Duskmourn as it is, barring a few changes like making the survivors dirtier and grimier and more wounded in general.

Like, it's like a post-apocalyptic story for me. Valgavoth has won, it consumed the plane and the survivors can only scramble around its kingdom struggling to survive. You don't really add much to, say, Fallout as a narrative if you make the first half of the game be living in the mundane non-post-apocalyptic-world waiting for the tensions of the Cold War to inflame and the world to perish in nuclear fire. It just hurts the post-apocalyptic story.

I mean sure, you don’t have to focus entirely on the pre-Valgavoth plane, it can still be a darker horror themed plane but show the rise of Valgavoth’s power and influence as normal people become corrupted and the house grew to overtake the plane. Otherwise you forget it was a normal plane to begin with, I felt like that is why people shit on Duskmourn as just being a Stranger Things ripoff when it’s completely different.

>Drain Life deals X damage to any target. You gain life equal to the damage dealt, but not more life than the player's life total before the damage was dealt, the planeswalker's loyalty before the damage was dealt, or the creature's toughness.

I cast drain life x=4 targeting Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker who animated himself into a 4/4 dragon with flying, indestructible and haste. He has 2 loyalty.
Do I gain 2 life or do I gain 4 life?

>>97515909
I feel that starting with a "normal" plane and ramping up to make it current Duskmourn is going to make it feel more like Stranger Things, not less. I'm just not really that interested in "80s themed magitek plane" all that much while the infinite haunted house setting does interest me. I enjoy just going into a setting where the villain already won, I think that's actually one of the things that makes Duskmourn special. Kind of like how Matrix starts outright with the world taken over by machines.
>>97515928

he also doesn't spawn a 1cmc shield artifact that returns to hand after pinging for 1-2 damage as should be the interpretation of him being blue and red (+a little white with the token spawn), so they really, really suck at their jobs and cannot be underestimated
>>
>>97515963
>If damage that can't be prevented is dealt to Gideon after his first ability has resolved, that damage will have all applicable results: specifically, the damage is marked on Gideon (since he's a creature) and that damage causes that many loyalty counters to be removed from him (since he's a planeswalker). Even though he has indestructible, if Gideon has no loyalty counters on him, he's put into his owner's graveyard.
(2015-08-25)
So you will gain 5 life because 5 life was marked on the creature. 2 loyalty counters will be removed and he will die.

sorry for triple posting but before anyone gets anal about it, i guess i meant a 1 generic mana cost kicker or activated ability to generate the token which of course would be 0 cmc

>>97516029
This is an actually much better design then what you suggested. He unattaches Equipments to deal damage and then they attach right back. You get the reference AND it's an unique design that isn't necessarily restricted to doing this one thing. It's a story told through mechanics. If he just created a shield token or tutored a shield that does the things it would be a vastly weaker design overall.
>>
>>97516041
It's the exact same as what I suggested, except it deals CMC damage, retard.

Like this card. It makes the opponent discard their hand and draw a new one or take damage equal to their hand. This is because this guy cut off the Doctor's hand and then he grew a new one. If it said "destroy target card named The Doctor's Hand" it would be an obviously much more retarded design

>>
>>97516061
No it really isn't. Making it spawn the token would be a much worse design. It would make it both payoff and enabler. As it stands it's an Equipment synergy card (because he's famous for using an Equipment) but he doesn't wipe your ass. You need to enable him in the first place by playing equipments and then unattaching them.
>>
>>97516029
Throw should tap and Catch should untap him. But JotC knows how to sell a 3cmc 4/4 with infinite burn potential :)
>>
>>97516080
>infinite
??????
>>
>>97516066
If this card tutored another, he wouldn't do anything with other cards. He would be the Captain America's Shield commander. As it stands, he is an Equipment commander with a variety of uses like Voltron, cheating equipment costs, etc. It's pretty simple.
>>
>>97516077
So what you actually meant with that chatGPT wanna be bullshit about "storytelling" is that he doesn't fit into the current meta because he doesn't enable his own payoff. Yeah, real genius bar you've set. Definitely a "story told through mechanics" because he doesn't spawn the token, you have to have played a Captain America shield (or whatever mythic rare artifact slop you run) in your Captain America deck. The rest functions the same, but it's a whole different beast because he doesn't spawn the token. So what you really meant when you said that was "the laziest possible interpretation of Captain America" is that "everything is right except he shouldn't spawn his own token."

Peak midwit "ackshually" posting. Go back.
>>
>>97515384
This type of card is very rare nowadays and it's a shame. A card that said brew something, even if it wasn't going to turn out great.
All sets have a lots of legends and signposts to support limited so there is no much room left for out of the field cards.
>>
Oh my god, you're right, this genius change unveils a new paradigm for card players everywhere! Now the narrative comes together! WotC is brilliant!
>>
>>97516106
>everything is right except he shouldn't spawn his own token
Yes? Pretty much. Do you think that Urza High Lord Artificer should also put 10 clues on the board so you can have all the mana without even needing to play artifacts? Do you think Omnath should tutor four lands and put them in the board so it can activate its ability for you for free? Is that a good design for you?
>>
>>97516121
Man even the examples you tailor made to strawman are transparent stretches. You saw a trivial difference and decided it was no longer the laziest possible way to design him but actually the pinnacle of WotC storytelling-by-design brilliance. Fuck off with the false equivalence, midwit.

>Captain America throwing Genji Gloves is actually why this design is PEAK
>>
>>97516137
>>Captain America throwing Genji Gloves is actually why this design is PEAK
Literally what is the problem with this. He throws an Equipment to deal damage and then grabs it again. Simple yet effective. You get the reference and it does things that work with other cards instead of simply being its own circlejerk engine. What actually is added to the card by restricting it specifically to this one other card or making it wipe its ass for you by making a token?
