If authorhood is unclear, I will guessIf I missed any, then that's terribly embarrassingBut also you should tell meI think I'll repost this for the next 1ish threadsI would actually really like a third category, because then we could call it a "Triple crown" and "Triple crown" is a Rad title for any type of competitionPlease suggest a good third category, Ideally one with less hassle then buildcount or similarCategories:Favourite: https://strawpoll.com/NoZrzB0OeZ3Preference ranking: https://strawpoll.com/PbZqbr09WyN

Say you're going on an adventure with a beastly companion. Think Amaterasu from Ōkami or Wolf Link. What kind of beast appeals the most?Top left: Basically just a normal wolf, or tiger, or whatever. Not fantastical at all and pretty boring...but easy to relate to? Easy to slot into the already-existing "beast companion" dynamic?Top right: A little more fantastical but still normal-ishBottom left: Weird. But interesting? Fresh and new, but hard to imagine in that Wolf Link/Amaterasu role?Bottom right: Not even mammalian-looking. I think I like this design the best, but I also have to acknowledge that it looks the least like a "beast friend" archetype
>>97513804I think I'll be calling it about an hour after the start of the next threadWhat would be a good starting time for next month? I think 4 reposts was too much and I'd like to have a discrete window I can useMaybe 4th-7th?
>>97513814Top Left. Fantastical and weird is good, but I have "real" companions for that. For an animal companion I'd want something more grounded, to remind myself of the real and simple interactions I left behind.
>>97513814Normal wolfIt fits going on an adventure more to have something I actually like, and something that is reliable and understandableWolf>>>>>>>>Dragon>Lightning wolf thing> Humanoid wolf thing
>>97513814For the love of god, please pick something other than a canine, feline, equine, or any of the typical "companion" animals. That alone will make the choice much more compelling. I would tend to prefer something like top right that has a slight mystical quality, but I don't really like that particular image. What this guy >>97513822says is surprising to me. I'd rather have ordinary human companions and a fantastic beast than the other way around
>>97513815You should put however much effort in you'd like to, but I don't think 4 reposts is excessive at all. It seems like a good portion of our population only checks in every week or two, so you'll get a better sample size and hopefully avoid it being skewed by superfans
What do you think about a whole species speaking in weaboo?Would you be able to take them seriously?Would it break your immersion? For example:>Aniki, forgive me... Arthur betrayed you, and I could not stop him. Everything went according to his keikakku...
>>97513866i laughed
>>97513847Part of the difficulty is finding pictures of interesting and fresh fantasy monster characters. Most fanart for most series is focused on the humans. Monster Hunter (which is where all 4 of those characters are coincidentally from) is one of the only series besides, say, Pokemon that has a good variety of fanart of non-humanoidsAt the very least I'd prefer something more felid than canid, if only due to my dislike of dogs
>>97513814This is the wrong example because I like Nargacuga way more than I like Mizutsune but I would prefer bottom right as a concept. Something strange and cool. I don't like companions in general, other than maybe waifus if made well, so to convince me to get one you need to sell me on it. It being ridable and/or flying is pretty much a requirement.>>97513847>For the love of god, please pick something other than a canine, feline, equine, or any of the typical "companion" animals. What's even left then? Reptiles and birds? Bugs? I would really like some cool snake or strange bug actually but as long as they are a cool enough variation I don't mind a more classic animal. Like a Kurama style kitsune, or a manticore or other chimera like creature. I would be fine with most of the MH monsters that are on the larger side.
>>97513876>if only due to my dislike of dogsSame. Nta, MH has a lot of very cool designs, so going with any one of those would be really cool. Especially the Frontier ZZ ones, those are incredible.
>>97513866I say yametekudastop.
>>97513866I don't see a problem with it, there are worse languages. There are some cool ways to justify it too if you feel the need to go that far but I don't think it's even needed. Them speaking funny should not get in the way of taking seriously the meaning of what they say if needed.
>>97513866Is this the new retarded shitpost format?
>>97513880Every other animal that isn't some type of dog, cat, or horse. What kind of question is that? There are tons of other choices even if you stick to mammals. I do agree about interesting variations, whether that's a "magic dog" essentially or just a more unusual species of "dog" like a dingo. I would still rather see some really off-the-wall stuff, though>>97513876That makes sense!
>>97513866Stupid.No.Yes.No real person speaks like that. If you want to have japanese for whatever reason, you can have japanese text with an english translation right after.
>>97513880>>97513891I should probably specify that I have almost no MH knowledge whatsoever. These 4 were the result of a few hours of searching "monster no_humans -original" and banging my head against the wall. I'll probably just search for "monster_hunter no_humans" from here out since basically no other series is contributing anything
>>97513927Or, more likely, english text with a japanese translation right before to give the illusion of english being the translation.
Seriously, >>97513693 what did Tok do to the Allsync?
>>97513927>>97513946"Japanese" is supposed to be their first language the random words in japanese are meant to be a stand in for an accent so instead of >Hallo my friendu, howu are yu?You get>Ohayo my friend, how are you?
>>97513847What's wrong about adventuring with a loyal dog...?
>>97513947The events were slightly unclear, however whenever Tok's cyoas were in the archive, it got copyright strikes, and Tok made a demand for his cyoas to be removed from it. We don't know if it was Tok making copyright claims, or someone else targeting Tok's cyoas. I'm only 80% sure of this assessment of events, as I don't actually care that much.
>>97513866Funny.Gods no. I'd try for their sakes with all my heart though. Not really. It's yet another recognizable trope in my isekai fantasy.
>>97513964Phonetically written accents are a shit. A SHIT!
>>97513964Have an accent then, instead of a travesty of language.
>>97513866No? It's like when people write all dwarves as those macho blacksmiths all about honor and grudes and MUH ANCESTORS.
>>97513974I want to disagree, but I have a deep southern accent and whenever I try to write it phonetically, it comes across as retarded.
>>97513978 (me)I meant "no, it wouldn't break my immersion" but I wasn't clear enough.
>>97513967Nothing at all. I enjoy the usual suspects when they're well done, but I think it's a shame that there aren't more examples of animal companions like boars, grasshoppers, crocodiles. I'm not implying those things can or should eclipse something like a dog or horse
Rake status?
>>97513997aroused.
>>97513993I have trouble imagining a scenario where Anon, adventurer extraordinary, is followed by a boars. Or a crocodiles. Well, maybe the crocodile if it's in Nouvelle Orleans, but it's a stretch.Besides the fact they're less evident in general (ex: we've been fed "post-apocalyptic trek with doggy" for decades), it's also a problem of mobility for some. The horse? The dog/wolf? Yeah, they'd escape. The cat is fine, too. Something without legs or short ones or just slow like a turtle might not make it, and those kinds of situations are common for adventures.

>>97514012Well yeah, in most cases it would assume that there's some kind of magic, extenuating circumstances, or just suspension of disbelief involved, but there are other domestic animals that could fill the same roles in a pinch too if you want to stick to those for realism. The above three things are features of most CYOAs, though, and the original anon was already soliciting input on how overtly magical the animal should be. I'm just trying to say that there are a ton of cool animals that could be explored to really make that CYOA stand out. Some of my favorite works (like Book of the New Sun) shine in that department. It can really enliven something that is otherwise business as usual

>>97515317In what sense? They all require a modicum of effort to work.As >>97515331 said Divine Trascendence hs the comfy potential but you have to work for it, you need to actually build a comfy legend. False Wizardry is pretty comfy if you get both all the perks for it and the territory bonus since you have a whole 2 minds dedicated to advancing it for you. But the real ultimate comfy is a combination of the Comfort Upgrade, the Stellar Pacts Territory bonus, False Wizardry capstone power with maxed Stellar Pacts and a bit of Divine Trascendence to make gathering pacts easier. Use Metamagic on the Comfort upgrade and the Pacts territory bonus to ramp them up, make some pacts in your moon to get a good baseline of energy and powers, then just fuck off into your unbreachable and completely customizable personal world. Optionally take some of the companions with you to help, Forgotten Tower is made for the worldbuilding and Lonely Goddess is also a good choice.

>>97516523Hmm... this was the least developed of the ideas I've had, but in some ways, also the least difficult to tackle. I think you'll have a choice of a few busted abilities, then a more modular set of techniques to augment or influence your choice. The rest of that will be lore, the various dangers you are up against, and your own choice of how to approach the world you're in. Probably a few rumours filling the same niche as quests usually do, and a mystery box for what rewards pursuing them will get, maybe. The world itself won't be generic, I do have a vaguely solid idea of a bizarre dreamscape that's been beaten into submission by an alien industrial empire that is now crumbling, but the specifics on that remain to be seen.
>>97516565Best of luck.

>>97516565I should clarify, by alien I meant from a foreign dimension, rather than ayy lmaos. The setting won't have many sci-fi elements, if any. The original founders will most likely be elves or something similar- at the height of civility and grace yet blind to their own shortcomings. I always have been a big fan of the Mos Eisley bazaar-type scenarios, so I almost certainly will have some weird stuff going on in addition to more usual fantasy elements.>>97516527>>97516528>>97516537>>97516580I'm pretty enthusiastic for the idea, and feel galvanized now that chance has set me on a specific path and thereby excised the indecision. I hope you anons enjoy the CYOA when I am done with it, and with that, I will stop namefagging. Although if anybody has any questions on this or my past work, or requests on things they would or wouldn't like to see, I'll be happy to answer them. I can't make any promises aside from that this will release, but I like to engage with anons. For the record, I do agree the first version of Icescape was far better, formatting-wise. I wasn't sure how else to increase the font-size without disrupting the structure I was going for. In the future, I think I'll trend a little more towards vertical top-down structures, instead of the more horizontal look I went for with it.
The most wizardly traditions made use of the gods, anon. High ceremonial magicks incorporated the gods. Theurgia was ‘the divine science of god-working’. To contact the gods, the godhead, etc, was seen as the greatest and grandest magic source. It tied into mysticism—that of confronting the ineffable. Confronting God. — Theurgy (from Greek theos "god" and ergon "work") is literally understood as "divine working," "god-work," or "the science of divine works". Originating in the 2nd century CE among Neoplatonists, it represents a form of "high magic" or sacred ritual aimed at uniting the human soul with the divine, distinct from Goetia (sorcery or lower magic). See, while Theurgia attempts to uplift, or transcend the self, to raise it higher into higher spiritual echelons, Goeteia is the opposite, seeking out lower, materialistic gains and rewards. Most typical sorcery. Gnostics shun and abhor the materialist world, seeking to escape it entirely, while Goetic sorcerers embrace its setting as a form of advantage. Hermetic magicians in comparison do appreciate the world in its material form, but seek divine union to go along with it, nonetheless. To appreciate it a lot better. It’s Art. Gnostics don’t see it that way. Gnostics see it as a trap. A trap can still be art, however, as even a prison will have architecture to it. Pic related. Molested by God.

Holdfast was nowhere near finished when the author disappeared, yet it's rated as "god tier". (You) would wake up as a newly turned vampire, with no idea what happened, and the choices (you) made would retroactively determine who made (you) into one. I think I really want to make my beast companion some kind of lion/tiger/other big cat, which Monster Hunter unfortunately doesn't have, I think. On the table right now are Dromarch from Xenoblade (unfortunately doesn't have much art on his own or even art where I can viably crop out the other characters), the Winged Lion from Dungeon Meshi (not a lot of art on his own and in a normal quadrupedal beast-looking form...), and Derpy from K-pop Demon Hunters (...surprisingly actually fits well, with a good mix of being fluffy and friend-shaped but also looking somewhat intimidating and combat-capable.
