Gue'vesa are far more suited to the role of "relatable common soldier" than the Imperial Guard is.

>They have religious people, but they're not fanatical nutjobs that make ISIS look sane
>They're not pre-conditioned to accept horror, they consider such things like 'shooting infants in the face' to be rather disturbing
>They have better gear and decent training, but not to a superhuman degree. They're more relatable to a western audience who is used to their soldiers being well equipped and supported

It was too dumb for me to handle. Units just standing there if I fail a roll, wtf. What is this supposed to simulate? Them not being fast enough to get to the enemy before he reacts would make sense. But at the very least they should move this distance rolls indicated. And not just stand still in place wasting turn as enemy shoots at them wtf

I would instantly buy Sororitas bikers. Cavalry would be okay if they had a cool knightly jousting armor to go with it but I think bikes are cooler.

I would also buy a flyer. I like the Corvus Blackstar and would just take it as an ally from the Agents book if I could, but for some strange reason it's actually illegal to take it as a transport for non-deathwatch infantry. I would love the Blackstar with churchy bits and angel feathers painted on the wings.

I have about 4k points of SoB but still feel like some things are missing.

GW having trim change depending on company is the source of a lot of the story's lore woes. Ultramarine Gold and Blue is a perfect aesthetic combination but because of the trim ruels from 30 years ago it's forced every marketable story to feature exactly the Ultramarines Second Company.

You honestly don't have to do much to get a nice SoB face.
My mate always leaves the heads seperate, sprays them white, and just careful applies a diluted down version on gman flesh, the skin looks nice and ready to be put on the model but he like to go the extra mile and use red and black contrast with tooth pick go pick out details for make up.

>>97519264
Yeah, that's one of them, the other is the three faces.
Honestly if you follow just the skin tutorial you'll be golden, but if you want to do stuff lipstick and eyeliner it's always good to water your paints down heaps because a little bit of colour goes a long way.

Don't really know if it's unpopular but

A good Wargame should be playable whatever the field is a city in ruin to a barren desert.
The board should give flavour to the battle, not decide if the game is even playable.

The fact that 40k is unplayable without plenty of LoS blocking terrain is straight up a failure of game design.

>>
>>97519485
It's kind of a a wash because there are just different ways you would build your army to play on different kinds of battlefields against different kinds of foes. But everyone plays fixed "take all comers" lists for tournaments and pickup games. In Crusade where you have a roster to choose from after you know the mission and enemy it's not such a big deal. The problem comes when certain tactics are unusable by most armies in the game, like some armies are melee armies that just can't fight on a big open field and some are gunline armies that can't navigate dense boards with no long sightlines. That's not a failure of the game's rules, but a failure of an army thematically to be able to fight in all theaters of battle.
>>
>>97519485
The game is playable on a barren desert, just has to be a looooong barren desert so you're out of range when you deploy.

There never was a good edition of mainline warhammer 40k rules and never will be so long as there is no motivation to write any at GW.

Even the best edition of warhammer 40k is awful in comparison to wargames where the rules writers have legitimate incentive to produce a good ruleset due to not having the guarantee of plastic sales due to pay piggies.
>solution
A community edition of 40k rules that is actually good from the ground up.

One Page Rules might be that but I’ve read some posts saying OPR’s rule quality dropped so who knows if those rules are good, but they could be lies. Nobody at the lgs wants to play OPR so I can’t comment on rules quality.

Even if some collective of actually intelligent and talented people go and write a “Ninth Age” but for 40k and the rules are actually fun, balanced for tournament and have good homebrew assisting material to make custom units compared to 40k codex rules, GW would do everything to shut it down.

>zealous defense of rules because they are free and proxies permitted provided base sizes comply with rules
>brands everyone who so much breathes something that could be interpreted as a naysay at anything about the game and you’re a list of negative labels
>blind defense of the brains behind the rules and maintenance of the game even when bad decisions are made

That last one was and almost still is with warmahordes players since the ip now belongs to someone else.

GW isn't going to make any fliers ever again, so they aren't actually "missing" that, because technically GW is intentionally making their rules so bad no one wants to use them as a way of soft squatting them out of the game.

Na.
>>
>>97519662
they're a model company not a game company. if someone designs a nice looking plane they'll sell it and find rules and lore to justify it afterwards.
>>
>>97519667
>>97519670

Why do you think the vast majority of fliers they have ever made they no longer sell / permanently out of stock / legends?
>>
>>97519503
that changes nothing, it just takes a little bit longer for the ranged army to counter the melee army
>>
>>97519485
This
40k is space fantasy, that's why melee is a big thing.

I wonder if that would be improved/fixed by reverting to the old rule of "you can only shoot the closest enemy (or pass a ld test)"
>>

Like what? Other than stuff from forge world.
>>
>>97519670

>>
>>97519684
Surely all it would need is to make shooting less decisive since you have more chances to do it, keeping melee just as decisive.
>>

I might have dreamt it, but I think melee combat used to be way more lethal.

>Shooting
X attacks, resolve hits & saves, takes away Y wounds+models
>Melee
Both units roll and compare outcome, the loser makes a morale test, if they lose they flee, THEN the winner can choose to pursue, and IF they catch up, the remaining losers are ALL WIPED OUT.

>>
I have two questions today.

Following on from aspirant talk in the last thread:
Could a biologis (I assume apothecaries are too busy to respond) tell me if (real world question) you keep taking people out the gene pool to turn into angels, do you eventually prevent compatible men from appearing or is that not true because that's not how genetics works?
Oh and do wretched, vile mutants start that way from birth and eventually corrupt an entire world, necessitating their destruction at every encounter, or are they "Okay" if their, um, balls and ovaries are fine. Not asking for a friend, just wondering if I'm overzealous since I saw an inquisitorial acolyte with very visible mutations (eye stalks, I wanted to poke one) not get executed because, and I quote, "It's okay, I'm the one who seals away the profane books! This just happens in the dark heresy that is my life!"

And could a heretek (I know you're shitposting here instead of working, that's why our war machines are better than yours) tell me what happens when one of your decrepid, failed, abominable titans has its spikes break off during a battle. Do you have to search the field for them or do you make new ones?

I guess that was three questions.

>>97519840
marine chapters don't take nearly enough people to put into trials to leave a dent in a world's population, and from what I understand geneseed compatibility tests are done after the various other trials, so there's no real genetic selection going on, just a genetic filter after a selection of generally healthy kids.

whether spikes are recovered depends on the nature of the spike:
was the spike a natural growth, a practical form of protection against predators, or a statement of devotion and favour towards Ans'l, Mo'rcck, and Phraz-Etar? and does the cult that put on said spike consider the loss of it as a sign that the wearer wasn't worthy and the gods aren't looking favourably, or do they consider it something that must be maintained at the cost of further disfavour? it changes from case to case

I actually think 9th edition was very solid in terms of core rules. The big problem was it suffered some of the most severe codex creep 40k has ever had. I wish 10th had been a 9.5, one more round of refinement on that 8th edition base with a consistently scaled set of armies.

Yeah, those were pretty scuffed. There were a few other things I'd change given the chance. As a little example, combined charges for a unit and a character to avoid those situations where one left the other behind. As a bigger example, cutting way back on the number of stratagems would probably be healthy. Still, the basics felt a lot better than 10th has.

>your most unpopular opinion
I don’t know what is my worst. I can list some.

The worship of Henry Cavil because he publicly says he likes warhammer 40k only proves he is the exception to the rule that people in this hobby are ugly freaks.

40k cannot be adapted in a live action medium.
It is just so over the top the thing needs to be fully 3d animated in a quality that puts the old Blizzard cinematics to shame.

The malleable nature of 40k’s lore is more of a negative than a positive given that it and art are the main selling points. “Core lore traits” need to be set about that remain canon no matter what.

The massive influx of what we would call “normalfags” is more positive than negative. Not saying that negative doesn’t exist. Fresh blood to keep this medium alive is always good.

The galaxy needs some warp magic or Old Ones tech to create “unknown regions” of the galaxy.
A comically big “do whatever you want” zone.
>inb4 halo stars, ghoul stars etc.
The edges of the galaxy are not big enough. Named planets everywhere makes the setting look smaller than it is.

/tg/ and yes this accursed warhammer 40k general while not very influential on the 40k community still holds some influence, more influence than we give credit for.

Your homebrew is bad until there’s painted models attached to the homebrew even if written badly intentionally or not.
>proof
The joke models for the Angry Marines made that chapter endearing.

Present and past day bigotry aka problematic stuff has a place and belongs in the 40k universe and in the imperium, it adds to the grimdark nature of the setting. Just add a warning about this to wave away complaints from offended softies.

Nothing will ever “kill” warhammer. Only GW can do that. Anything branded a Warhammer killer is gonna be junk.

L shaped terrain can be good if properly stylized to “hide”the L shaped aspect and not sterile unpainted cardboard.

>>
>>97520173
>Votann aren't good guys.
Depends on the League. Some have stricter standards of honor than others. Some, even, have a small degree of compassion even if it hurts their profit margins a bit. But they all suddenly develop a conscience about innocent lives when they are made to understand that blowing up a planet would mean a retaliation fleet showing up to their doorstep and genociding them to the last dwarf.
The Leagues don't disregard life as a whole, it's just they'll disrespect your life as meaningless if you can't defend it and what you own.

I said it before and will keep saying it, anti-grav tech is dogshit and it looks even worse. It should have never been made the new standard for primaris marines and the faction, and should have been relegated only to factions such as custodes or mechanicus. It should have all been kept as tracked vehicles for the space marine only. I fucking hate it and think it's the biggest eye sore, why did they have to take away my precious treads.
>>
>>97520303
nah, they change the lore all the time to suit new model lines. books make up a tiny % of their revenues. most customers don't interact with the lore except in the broadest sense, and definitely don't keep up with new storylines or "reveals".
>>
>>97520562
>why did they have to take away my precious treads.
Pretty sure those are still around.
>>
>>97520562
space marines have always had land speeders like in star wars. separating them from more realistic/mundane guard who have tracked tanks is a valid choice.
>>
>>97520542
command protocols aren't mind control, they are an in built recognition of authority, but there are get arounds, especially for other high ranking individuals
imotek's deals are that his dynasty's highest ranking man died in the hibernation and so the dynasty fell into civil war with all the other nobles warring for dominance; while his second deal is that he's an autistically hyperlogical tactical mind and he calculated that the only positive outcome would have been taking control himself, and so he did.

I'd guess if you can convince or gaslight your own protocols that what you're doing is ultimately in support of the necron command structure, then you'll hack the protocols.

L shaped ruins, symmetrical battlefields, and 2D pie plate objectives (instead of non-standardized models/terrain) are the best things to happen to 40k in a long time.
Codexes should be gameplay info only, put the lore and painting shit in some overpriced book for the whales to buy.
Nobody cares about an army's "flavor". Too many times the fluff has come in the way of useful mechanics and I'm sick of it.

What I complain about is the new vehicles specifically for the primaris line. For example, I don't like that my only option for a tabletop transport of my marines is an impulsor now, or a giant land raider. It's a pure aesthetic (autistic) reason for my complaints.

The US Navy, right now, doesn't know how to make an icebreaker anymore because they didn't need to for like 40 years so the US companies that could make them stopped making them and the people who knew how to make them retired or died. Now imagine if every US state was cut off from every other one by a wall of monstrous insanity for two hundred years.

One of the biggest problems with AI code today, besides shit quality, is they spew lines of code without anyone knowing what it is. It could be genius but it's a sampled mishmash of Stack Overflow and other sources and not even the AI has an easy time explaining what it just made. This means in the event of a problem or someone needs to do a few changes, you could be left with completely confused coders and without anyone they can turn to for help. Not even the AI that made the code.

How? He literally does not like the two clone-coded factions in the game. He'd have to go far beyond /yourdudes/ at this point to do it and probably make a new entire faction to shove into the established lore, which is cringe af.
>>
>>97521249
As a Krieghead they really don't have much in comparison with Clone Troopers besides being faceless expendable bodies grown in a vat. The two armies have completely different aesthetics from one another. Unironically Marines or even Tau are closer to the Clone Trooper aesthetic.

One of the biggest problems IMO is the perception. People love thinking of it as a magic wand but it's at best a tool that needs supervision. Dumbfuck vibe coders can been bragging
>lol I spew a million lines a second
without considering if the code is good or not. A million shit lines is a giant pile of shit.

But also bosses and companies trying to boot out juniors or even higher-up coders. No boss would be stupid enough to think
>lol check out my new stove, I can fire every chef now
but apparently for AI, people think the tool can replace employee.

And another shit thing isn't just replacing juniors, it's where the AI will get new sampling data from. People've trained AI art on AI art and got universally garbage output. So what happens when AI hypothetically replaces so many human coders that future AIs all sample from AI code? It's like a Dune or Space Marine piss/shit recycler. It needs fresh outside input.

Yes but that's why the Imperium is so under-equipped for their size while the Tau is so over-equipped for theirs. When 1 Tau worker is the equivalent of 100 Imperium workers, it's pretty easy to pump out better equipment that the Imperium can't afford to give everyone. You wanted an explanation for why the Tau are able to widely equip their soldiers with good weapons, that's why. For every Guardsmen on the field you might have 100 workers back home working to keep him fed and equipped. For every Gue'vesa, you have 100 workers + the 10,000 automated drone workers they control.

If the Imperium equipped their soldiers as well as the Tau, it'd be a gigantic logistical drain for minimal gain. Despite US and USSR having gigantic output capacity over Germany, they both produced stuff in numbers, rather than wonder weapons. Especially US equipment had to be reliable above all else, because where Germany could pack their pack and send them back to the factory to get repaired, US couldn't ship their tanks to the other side of the planet. They had to be repairable in the field and last for a long time with routine maintenance. Pulse rifles can pack a punch, but they need both power and physical ammo (that the induction coils turn into plasma as it travels down the barrel). That's two munition sources for a single weapon. Lasgun needs power packs that can be recharged with head or sunlight.

Right, and that strain that they can't afford is because of in large part their lack of advanced industry. It's like China or Japan in WW2. They had a lot of manpower, but their soldiers were living off of bags off rice while the US had ice cream barges. When you have more advanced industry, you can afford to have a larger logistics chain. The Imperium's industry is largely too primitive to afford it, hence they go with the budget option.

STC was just Grok to which you told what you had and what you needed, and it printed for you detailed instructions step by step on how to do it. Idea was to reduce the need for highly trained specialists. Don't need nuclear engineers and physicists to make a fusion reactor for a colony when a computer tells the workers everything they need to do in order to make it.

I’ve been saving up to start my 3rd army, but I’m getting impatient and I kinda want to get a bit of variety right now. 2k points is the defacto most people go for since that's what points costs are balanced around. 1k games are doable but some units are just not meant for low-point games and just dominate the playing field (Primarchs, large tanks, knights, etc).

Combat Patrol is a meme and no one actually plays it and is all but likely to get scrapped when 11th releases and they make a 40k version of Spearhead's rules.

It wasn't that US industry per se was more advanced (early war US was hopelessly behind in weapons technology). The Soviet factories were also designed by Americans with wartime production in mind, but they didn't see it fit to make ice cream barges for their soldiers. Germans were tinkering with all sorts of things that fueled both US and USSR industry post-war, but they lacked the mass production of the competition.

But it's not just having fancy toys, it's how to use them. Giving WW2 Japanese modern battle tanks and predator drones doesn't magically make them a modern military if they can't use them. All the modern toys they're sending to Ukraine comes with the requirement to also train those soldiers to use them, where as older Soviet equipment they're already familiar with can be put to good use right away. On top of individual performance, there's strategic performance. If on paper a battalion's performance is improved by 25% at the cost of 100% more for all the toys, you might instead raise a second battalion for +100% performance instead. Tau with their smaller empire (plus only a fifth of their people can be assigned to military service anyway) can splurge on an individual soldier because there's not the numbers to spend.

Then there's doctrine to consider. US squad had automatic rifles of different sizes (M1s and BARs), distributing the firepower evenly across the squad, while German squads had bolt-action rifles who mainly operated as support for the squad machine gun (carrying ammo for it, protecting it and manning it if the gunner bought it), making the firepower more centralized. A German machine gun remains deadly as long as there's even one man operating it, but the more US troopers fall, the less firepower the squad had. Fire warriors got pulse rifles, but no special and heavy weapons, while IG got lasguns with special and heavy weapons mixed in.
>>
>>97521638
>they both produced stuff in numbers, rather than wonder weapons.
On an individual level, most American stuff tend to be better than everyone else. And the USSR got screwed by some of their more advanced designs like non-bolt rifles being hit because it was too close to the German line.

The inability of Japan to supply its own troops was largely because they are an island nation with significant number of troops deployed to Pacific Islands that let the USN's submarine fleet sink a large amount of their merchant marine fleet.
Instances where the IJA deployed troops to islands where the supply ships could be intercepted by allied air forces like Gaudalcanal or Papua New Guinea didn't help.

>It wasn't that US industry per se was more advanced (early war US was hopelessly behind in weapons technology).
You're confusing weapons and industry technologies. The US absolutely did have a strong advantage in industry tech and organization. While Germany, Italy, and Japan all had a 'workshop' system where they would basically hand-craft their weapons and vehicles with small teams, often with very little standardization involved, the US had standardized and semi-automated assembly lines rolling tanks down the factory with standardized designs and teams. Now, take that same advantage, and magnify it even further by replacing the workers entirely with robots and using the people who would've been working with their hands to instead oversee several factories entirely.

Therein lies the Tau's true advantage. Sure, the Imperium has some advanced weapons, but they can't afford to pump them out in large numbers, and they can't afford the ships or logistics to keep them supplied if they did.

Soviets had assembly lines too, but it didn't translate to ice cream barges. Besides, Imperial tech is pretty standardized. You can take power packs and bolter munitions from one side of the galaxy and put them into weapons produced on the other side and it all works. It's often the super advanced stuff you mentioned that starts to require more hands on tinkering to get everything working in order.

What game system/faction do I get into if I'm a coomer? Aeldari? Drukhari?
>>
>>97522190
He's saying you can be even worse by using unpainted space marine proxies from a 3rd party game (starcraft) to complete the cycle.
>what would you recommend
What army did you play before what army do you want to play now?

Eldar Corsairs and Red Corsairs are new Subfactions launching, maybe turn over a new leaf with a newly released army.

Any tips for painting white armor? I finished assembling my khorne berserkers over the weekend and want to start painting them in theirr HH colour scheme, but I always hear pure white is absolute cancer to get right
>>
>>97522282
Buy white ink
>>
>>97522282
>HH colour scheme
I hate you people. The one legion that looks dogshit in their HH scheme, and its the most popular for some reason.
>>
>>97522279
You're a porn addict, get help or get into coomer anime figurines
>>
>>97522282
if you don't have an airbrush I wouldn't recommend trying a mostly white color scheme
>>
>>97522282
Paint with pro acryl bright neutral grey
highlight with bold titanium white
wash recesses with army painter soft tone
>>97522286
almost like you have dogshit tastes or something
>>
>>97522288
I don't even look at porn that much, like maybe once a week max idk wym

I have all these armies except Eldar, but I have got some Eldar models to try and figure out a paint scheme so I can start them in the future.
>>
>>97522324
yeah likely, if they can make grotesques out of tau why not wracks out of humans

The most braindead way is to prime white and use a grey shade paint like Soulblight Grey. Otherwise I’d do >>97522291 with base coating in a grey and building up layers to white.
>>
>>97522374
grotesques are more like using the guy as raw materials though, wracks are more like someone choosing to apply for an apprenticeship and getting accepted
>>
I have a confession

I paid a pro painter like $2000 to paint my army and I claim it as my own work.
>>
>>97522411
okay.
>>
>>97522403
i wouldn't put it beyond homonculi to scramble human brain so they don't actually learn anything and thus can't de-wrack themselves just in case, while dark eldar apply just to feel something and some of them just learn to do it themselves and then get accepted into apprenticeship
>>
>>97522324
No wracks are apprentices that eventually become haemonculus themselves.
>>
>>97522411
we know, fecal anon.

Poorly. With constant rebellions in proprietary and charter colonies.

>No, the sons you have yet to father. The pantheon of primarch sons, and daughters too, that you will sire and bring into the world, your Neverborn children of ageless wisdom and endless power, who will rule the provinces and demesnes of your realm until the stars go out.
