I used to use imperial fist contrast paint as a basecoat for yellow model then I would highlight or layer over it again with normal acrylic paints. The 2nd release wave is more like inks and have really strong saturated colors.Stuff like snakebite leather or skeleton horde serve me well for small, textured, insignificant parts like wooden staves, piles of bones and skulls, or tattered clothing. I also like using them for skin or faces. I paint them an offwhite or sand color then apply something Guilliman flesh in thin layers. works good. Plaguebearer flesh and biel tan is a well known hack for ork skin.they're a big trap for noobs who are scared of painting, and I really don't recommend them for areas that are covered in what I call "landmines": surfaces that are broken up by small but highly visible details like chains, straps, medals, sigils, or trim. I really don't suggest using them for any kind of power armor.pic rel is snakebite leather for the light brown, garaghak's sewer for the dark, guilliman flesh on the face. An extremely rare case where contrast paint is much better than the normal acrylic technique

>>97536330for SoB you can probably use Black templar and then very carefully do the details and knick-knacks with the side of a brush. don't bother trying to paint much of the vertical L-shaped area where the detail meets the armor. go over the forward facing flat part first and always have a second brush ready to dab up any overspill that gets on the armor.i would personally ignore the rivets and studs all over the armor and cloth unless you're feeling brave dotting them all over dry contrast paint.
