How lethal is being in the imperial guard? I never understood how anyone ever ascends ranks if their casualty rate is supposedly so high. So if you are a Lt. or Sergeant or something, did you get the rank because you ascended to it in the imperial guard OR did you get it because the guy above you died and the guy about that guy died? Got another game in today against my buddy's ultramarines. 1000 points on both sides, nothing crazy. Basically my second game with Votann post-codex. I'm not gonna post too many pictures of it, long and short of it is I ended up losing again, but this time by a much slimmer margin than my first go-around with the army as I'm learning them.Key takeaways from the game for me are: a lot of the infantry squads Votann can take like beserks, hearthguard, etc. are all kinda mediocre unless you take a max sized squad of them. 5 beserks just ain't cutting it. Also, Needgard as a detachment is kinda ass. Gonna swap to hearthband going forward. Also also, I placed my hearthguard in from deepstrike in an absolutely retarded position and got swarmed for my trouble, so there's that. All stuff to take into account for next time, I suppose.
