First Deathguard I've ever painted, really happy with how its coming long so far
I was at the natural history museum today and I took some pictures that might be useful as a basing reference. All of the animal dioramas are useful of course but I didn't feel like being there all day.

Practicing doing ginger beards. This is with a contrast basecoat and a regular lighter orange highlight. Should I try and push it a bit further with a very fine yellow highlight or no?I am still learning how to highlight well.
>>97542164>Should I try and push it a bit further with a very fine yellow highlight or noon the very top I would give it a shot, But lower towards the belt, I wouldnt do it at all. I'd also start with as fine as you can go, that way if you dont like it, its not so a big deal.
I finished 10 of my jetpacks and primed the last 5 guys. Moved on to my vehicles and spent the night doing the metallics.

>>97542637fuck, why did it go sideways?

>>97542679That's what people are doing and often the result is sideways posts.
>>97542717let me test the original was right way up so this one should be sideways. anyway the way to ensure you never run into this problem is to not hold your phone like a fucking retard when you take pictures. if you hold it like a camera most models even let you use the side button as a shutter button.
>>97542722Not every phone functions the same, we've been having this problem for years and cropping is usually the solution.

This is mental illnessThe official GW Votann colours aren't anything like the box-artThe Eavy Metal archive suggests absolutely insane mixesHow is anyone supposed to accomplish this?
>>97543861It's because they're a newer faction. Painting has progressed and the archive is telling you what the studio painters literally did. In this case it's just so many steps because there is volumetric highlighting. and not just regular 'eavy metal 3 stage edge highlighting.
>>97543908I get what you're saying, I think, but my problem is more the army's colour scheme is impossible to get without these crazy mixes.Like Deepkin Flesh/Rakarth Flesh 5:1 for the off-white.The faction's iconic green as well requires mixing too.

I repainted part of one of my titans in prep for Adepticon so it matches proper legion uniform.
Unusual question - something around year ago I got some set of miniatures for intention of making a diorama. However, turned out that minis themselves lack rather crucial belts and such (as you can see, they basically hold weapons with them) and modellers are apparently expected to make them themselves. Any idea how could I make such belts?
>start using milliput, greenstuff and mix more and more instead of just gapfilling>looks amazing>months pass>that shit swellswtf? I thought once cured it stayed that way, now it bloats and is ruining paintjobs. It's weird because milliput says it cures even underwater, so humidity shouldn't be a problem, right?
>>97545026Well-tested way is to just use masking tape for belts/seatbelts/etc. You can also layer them if you need more thiccness. You can also use green stuff, but that's a bit more work. Thin brass strips, too. Finally, seeing your dudes in ponchos, you sure you wanna do give them belts? Belts + rainwear don't mix that well, anon.
>>97545041Belt as in weapon belt. You know, what helps you carry a gun over your shoulders. As for masking tape, I do have some thick, 2mm one, should fit then. Gonna try, thanks.
>>97545030That's not how epoxy putty works, anon. Once it cures, it should be stable, maybe shrink a little bit during curing process but not expand. Either your stuff was wacky (expired, whatever), you didn't mix them completely or it's the paint to blame instead.
>>97544994That is pretty nice. I'll give it a go on one of the test minis. Ty Anon.
>>97545060That's a gun sling, anon. But yeah, masking tape is your fren.
>>975450756-7 months is too much?I have them inside tupperwares (separed on plastic bags too) away from sun, hot and humid places
I've made no progress in painting thos escher gang for months fretting that i can't make the outfits black and look like shiny leather, but now I'm thinking I switch to an urban camo scheme instead, which I know I can do, seem fitting? tge 3 of my 30 that are as scantily clad as this will be slightly more challenging, but still doable.
>>97545276I mean, they could lie on shelf at shop for quite long before you got them. Still, that's most likely explanation since, like mentioned and like you noticed yourself - they shouldn't be affected by humidity while curing and once cured, they are chemically stable so shouldn't deform. Only other explanation I can think of is constant stress from parts but only pure GS is still rubbery, mix or pure Milliput remains hard and rigid.
>>97544480Thanks anon, I will prob do black helmets with red armor. Also a great time to practice painting black
Holy shit I can not paint to save my life. Fuck.
>>97545549Like when you do it sucks or you just can't start?
About those scale models of actual soldiers - I honestly don't understand why various companies keep making such minis in rather poor quality. Technology marches on, even GW is making rather good quality minis with minimal seamlines while various WWII minis not made for gaming still require tweaking, filling, adjusting and so on. I understand that somehow some old boomers won't mind removing mold lines from sub-mm tiny details but come on.
>>97545558When I do it, it sucks. And I hate that it sucks. And I know I have to practice to get better, but it hurts my fucking soul to ruin my minis with my shitty painting.
This might be stupid, but I was thinking the other day that I should get a pingpong ball, or something smaller probably, and use it to practice painting NMM onto with more interesting reflections and blending.

>>97545575Like with everything, there are good companies and there are shitty companies, anon. No reason to buy shit, and if you do, it's on you.
>>97545590>but it hurts my fucking soul to ruin my minis with my shitty painting. You can always strip them and repaint them as you improve. Hell, take some before and after pics to motivate yourself while you're at it
>>97545549>>97545590You cannot hope to improve at something if you're hesitant to failYou recognizing that your paintjob isn't what you want it to be already shows you have the awareness to improve on it if you put in the practice and study time to learn and reflect on what you want to do betterYou can always strip models and retry if you get texture built up when painting, though I do always urge people to save at least their first painted model so they can have an example of how far they've come
I wish this general would talk less about stripping models. It's almost always a worse option than just buying more models or painting over your existing ones. They would have be be extremely badly painted to justify stripping being required.
>>97545735Is this bait? I really can't tell anymore
>>97545590practice on plastic spoons until you're confident enough to try on a miniature
>>97545741No. I think the amount of times people recommend stripping models and time spent discussing it is WAY higher than it should be.
>>97545735>>97545741He's right. You can buy miniatures for pennies second hand.Maybe strip the odd horror story but repeatedly stripping and painting the same miniatures is Sisyphean
>apply varnish over shield>blue pigment reactivates and the yellow turns greenThankfully I managed to save it but holy shit, never had that happen to me before.
>>97545775spooky.
>>97545775What paints did you use and what kind of varnish? I've only had fully cured paint reactivate when it was speedpaint 1.0 and polyurethane varnish
>>97544994>>97544823Alright started on the first test mini. Two thoughts.1. Laying down gradients first then going in with contrast is not working anywhere near as well for me as I've seen it work for others. How do i do that and not have it end up either blotchy or visibly uneven? Anyone know? Or should I just give it up as a shitty, method that produces bad results?2. Red white and blue immediately makes me think of either A. The American flag or B. The crimson fists. I don't hate it but I'm not sure I love it either. It is nice and colorful though.
>>97542821>who would have tought i work in IT, right?>using a usb cable is arcaic, you add cycles to the connector for no reason, takes longer, physical space...i don't see any advantage over sending it wireless, be in whatsap, telegram, google drive or whateverEnjoy letting anything and everything not only have wireless access to your phone and potentially what you send such as pictures, but opening a whole can of worms in exploits and vulnerabilities.
>>97545653I wish I could run into good ones instead of shitty. That MiniArt ones is obviously low quality, even if guys behind it are quite good fellas. I simply thought that next step is at least attempt at making one diorama but wargaming minis are often very "battle posed" instead of something more tame.
>>97545840whenever i basecoat with contrast I'm accepting I'm mostly doing so to help the coverage of the actual basecoat while skipping a later shade stepI like how it indicates which areas are to be highlighted later as well, but I'm not relying on keeping a highlight effect visible from the actual contrast paintWith flatter surfaces/panels like your pic, I would expect to going over most it again with thinned regular paint, or as a few glazes, to iron out the blotches. Leaving the contrast in recesses, or other areas like the bottom part of the knee pad
>>97545840Thin your contrasts with contrast medium, ratios vary paint to paint but 1:1 with medium is a pretty safe starter when using them on flat surfaces like marines, go one section at a time so you can see where things are pooling and use a wet clean brush to pull that extra pigment away not to shill but look up eons of battle's black templar contrast recipe videos, he has a mix that works extremely well on marines
>>97545840You are supposed to apply layer over contrast anyway. But I also saw people often further thinning it, which probably also improves flow. I also recall one of local stores where owner was quick painting army for Conquest game and he was using primarily contrast (as he put it, he wanted his minis to be "good enough for table" instead of high quality paint jobs) and he was apparently applying it in small areas, making sure it spreads evenly. Probably it's easier when you apply it over small spots at time.
>>97545796Mix of Vallejo and AK, mixed AK ultra matte varnish with some water and the AK blue activated again.
>>97545955oh weird, I've not heard of that happeningHow long did you let the paint dry before varnishing? Also I would recommend thinning varnishes with medium over water, I find water can make varnish fog up more
>>97545963Ye, it's never happened to me before. But that blue paint is extremely thin and needs plenty of shaking. I haven't had issues with using water but I have ordered a new medium. Not been liking Vallejo mediums.

>>97546522>>97546492>>97546499Thanks for the advice. I'm just wondering what the advantage of oil is compared to just buying some citadel wash. More bang for your buck? Does it look better?
>>97546598Oil looks better but requires extra steps and is more time consuming.
>>97546598it has a different look, settles into recesses better and is easier to clean up staining afterwards
>>97546598oil washes have really strong capillary action compared to acrylic washes, don't stain as much, and are a lot cheaper too. The downside is that oil paints take literally weeks to fully dry to a point where they can't be reactivated.
Game tomorrow, 2 more heroes to finish tonight
>>97546657I thought they dry fairly quickly when thinned to wash consistency?
>>97546672it's quicker yeah, dries decently quick to be safe to touch, but still takes a long time to fully dry
>>97546598The biggest draw of oil washes is that with gloss varnish prior, you can literally clean them up with no trace. So, you can experiment as much as you want and if you mess something, just clean it with white spirits. You can also smooth them out for perfect easy gradients, let them dry a little and then fluff them with a clean brush for nice smooth transitions, etc. tl;dr once you learn how to properly use them, you won't use acrylic washes again. >>97546657>weeksWat. Most premade oil/enamels are okay to varnish after like two days, even my homemade ones from cheap ass oil-heavy oil paints take like three days max. >>97546672Yes, yes they do. There are even enamels that you can varnish over in a few hours. Artist grade paints with less linseed oil will also provide a lot faster drying. You can also help the process by doing a lot of stuff, like getting rid of the linseed oil by putting them on a piece of cardboard or something. You can even use hair drier (though check how to do that first).
started working on second chicken robot
>>97546697>homemade ones from cheap ass oil-heavy oil paints take like three days maxmaybe I used the wrong thinner
>>97546721Thinner matters, but it shouldn't be too drastic. I usually just wait for ~2-3 days, then varnish over it just fine. The worst thing that can happen if you varnish too early, is that you might need an extra varnish layer later, because the spot with oils will be still a bit glossy.
>>97546727lmao oil that gets covered when it's not dry will literally never dry. I had a blob of blo that skinned over and was still liquid inside half a year later.

I know its pretty common to gloss varnish a bit before using a decal then matting it after.Would it also work ok just using satin and then another coat of satin?
>>97547769No, that makes mustard gas.The idea is to give your decal a slick surface that can't be disturbed by products like micro sol and then dull the surface back to satin and permanently locks the decal in place. Satin > satin is less slick than gloss > matte but accomplishes the same thing with fewer products.
>>97546437Don't paint it all one flat colour, then. Look at reference images of Bantam roosters, they have a similar color pattern that you seem to have.
I've got most of the paints i need to start painting up some of the mcp models I have, but what fucking paint do I use for wolverines brown? On the cover it's more of a reddish brick brown, but then in the actual comic it's whatever red orange shit they have going on here. Maybe I'm being autistic about it but I wanna use something more like the comic itself if I'm gonna do a comicstyle/cellshading painting with the marvel models.

Question you guys might be able to answer;I recently bought the Army Painter hand drill and drill bits. Playing around with it, it seems like not all the drill bits actually fit. Now, I'm aware that you can pop off the back to get the other collets to change over for different size bits, but that doesn't actually solve the problem.I tried the 0.7mm bit in the smallest collet and the drill bit was still too small to get a good fit, meaning that it slips out and doesn't drill properly. The 0.9mm drill bit fits the smallest collet fine. The 1mm bit from the drill bit set was a really tight fit and hand to be pushed in to the smallest collet, while the 1mm bit that came with the drill went in fin with only a little bit of pressure. The 1.4mm and 1.8mm bits that came with the hand drill went into the next 2 collets up fine. However the 1.2mm bit from the bit set is too big for the smallest collet and too small for the next one up. The 1.5mm, 2mm and 3mm are fine. But the 2.5 is too big for the second largest collet and just a fraction too small for the largest collet. Is this normal? Or am I missing something?
Lads I think my batch of sand (not color forge asbestos) grains are too tiny I found locally.Whenever I paint and dry brush it looks like texture paste. What am I doing wrong with my paint or am I going to have to adventure out to find sand deposits with larger particles at a farther location?
>>97548536Both the drill and the bits from AP are just rebranded chinese products, I'm not super surprised they don't go together very well.A lot of people start with AP things and then quickly move on to better brands or even generic things.I have had the same problem with small bits and I got it to temporarily work by wrapping some kitchen roll around the drill bit before inserting it
>>97548536>APYes, that's normal. Their paints are serviceable (with multiple more or less hidden quirks), though rather overpriced for what they are. Their acrylic washes are nice. Everything else is on the garbage spectrum, from okayish garbage to irredeemable dogshit garbage (like their rattle cans of wet palette). AP is excellent in one thing, and that's marketing. Nearly everyone who starts with the hobby fails for it.
>>97548584did you get sand or dirt?if you mix it with water and you get mud... that's not sandin any case you can sieve, winnow or filter it to separate the diferent sizes
>>97548613>though rather overpriced for what they are. What are they? How are they worse than whatever other brand? What's a good brand? Strictly speaking of basic acrylics for painting with brush, not even contrast/speed paint.I've been using army painter because it was the simplest option to just buy their fanatic starter setI bought a few AK AFVs sold at the same price and I'm not seeing a difference. Granted I am a beginner, but that's why I am asking why it would be a good idea to switch from AP and to what.
>>97548689It is sand.I can’t provide pics because I’m not at home and won’t be for awhile but I figured now was a good idea to ask because of the colour forge asbestos sand problem.Generally I’m wondering if I’m doing anything wrong.Am I using too much white glue?Did I not dilute my acrylic paints enough?I dilute my acrylic paints to the point where it kind of “spreads” across the base when applied.I just want to know variables that could be causing the problem before I am forced to accept that my sand grains are too small.
>>97548613>Nearly everyone who starts with the hobby fails for it.Can confirmSource: me (hold me bros)Their washes are great and I’ve had good experiences with diluting their washes with a 50/50 mix of the wash and speedpaint medium.I saw posts talking about it and one mentioned the sonic sledgehammer channel which I like now.I have seen Ak interactive put out their own acrylic washes in proper droppers now.And with their own version of speedpaint medium I am wondering if a similar affect can be made.
>>97548713AK official price is 2.75€, Vallejo is ~3€, AP warpaints is 3.69€, even if they aren't worse that's some differencewhere do you live that AK is the same price as AP?
>>97548713AP uses more white pigment to increase their paints' opacity which causes them to lose some saturation. Supposedely white spirit can reactivate them as well so if you're planing to use oils/enamels you need to varnish beforehand. You should be doing that anyway honestly but with other brands you can sometimes get away with not using varnish.
>>97548732you woud have to completely slather the thing in glue to drown basing sand, but can just look at it before applying and compare with any pic or video online, the bases will give you a common scale>accept that my sand grains are too smallthat's probably the case, as i said sieve it or something
>>97548763When I get back home I’ll try using my sand batch again and dilute my paints even more to rule out what I am concerned with. Then I’ll look into sieving it.The paint+drybrush effect I am ideally looking for is GW’s painted sand basing that is nearly always used when presenting their models in their web store.Which I find weird because they don’t sell citadel sand and just advertise texture paste now yet still use glued on sand.

>>97548713Well for one thing, AK (and pretty much every other normal acrylic paint) won't get btfo by oils and white spirit like AP does. Most of their range is fairly desaturated compared to say AK or Vallejo or even Citadel. The dark & vivid colors are extremely limited with AP (their Blanche sets correct it a little, but the selection is still laughable compared to others). AK/Vallejo are also a lot more consistent when it comes to mixing and coverage. Airbrush application is another thing: I can just mindlessly do 1:1 with most of the AK/Vallejo/Citadel paints and be sure it will spray more or less fine. That said, I'm not saying AP acrylics are BAD. They are just worse than others, and often ask for same or higher price, which is just stupid. I can buy AK or Vallejo for cheaper/about the same price (Czechnya). >>97548743Buying some AP garbage is like a rite of passage. But yeah it seems like ordering in bulk would offset the slightly higher shipping price. There shouldn't be any customs price for in EU shipping.Or I'll just line up my next paint purchase with my next visit to the capitol and go to a store there in person.Although even at an order of 10 bottles it's not that much of a difference, if I didn't slip with the numbers.>that site has supidly low shipping costs tho6,60 eur? used to be like half but some new law adding admin costs made it double

>>97548613>AP is excellent in one thing, and that's marketing. Nearly everyone who starts with the hobby fails for it.I just went with it because it was the cheapest option, all things considered, on all the sites I normally buy from. A couple of them did have Vallejo drills for slightly cheaper then the AP drill, but it didn't come with any actual drill bits, so I figured AP would be "better value". Otherwise it seems to work well enough for my current needs, it's just that the 0.7, 1.2 and 2.5mm drill bits don't fit.I've also had a look around eBay and I've found a cheap no-name hand drill that uses... whatever you call it when little claw like things screw out to hold the drill bit in place (like a power drill) and not collets. So I might get that in the future. Or what about the Vallejo drill? Is it any good? I do use Vallejo brushes and some other tools and I'm quite happy with them.>Everything else is on the garbage spectrumWhat about their basing stuff, like they're flock and static grass? Is it any good? I'm just getting back into the hobby after a number of years out and from what I can see, it looks like the type of stuff we (or at least I) had back then, ie: 1 colour of static grass, 1 colour of flock and a couple of different types of sand. Now it's all kinds of weird and not really that weird, coloured sands and grasses and honestly it's a little overwhelming. I mean, fuck, back in my day if you wanted textured paint, you had to mix sand in with paint yourself. Are they any good, or is there better alternatives?

>>97548974When it comes to tools (drills, knives, etc.) Tamiya is your fren. Reasonably priced, their stuff is not THE best, but it usually just werks, and is often built like a tank. If you wanna splurge and go fancy, something like DSPIAE is a good choice. >basing stuffFor texture pastes for terrain, once again AK is my choice. Vallejo makes some pretty cool texture pastes, too, but it's a bit more situational, imo. I would also mention VMS, it's a little known Polish brand, but their mud paste is easily the best mud I've ever worked with. Especially if you need to model the wheels/tracks/human or animal tracks for dioramas and shit. >flock/static grassImo, this is one of those things that you can just buy in bulk from Chinks. It ultimately comes down to your workflow; I just buy the cheapest grass available, and then just airbrush/wash over it. But if you want some specific color, you can either go with Chinks for the cheapest price, or something like GSW, if you don't wanna deal with the Chinaman.

>>97549531The "Green stuff world Opaque" paints offer nice coverage with a single layer, but once dried up the colors are dull.Still useful as a base/undercoat but if you want nice colours there is no shortcut, you'll have to do multiple layers no matter the paint.
Is painting Necron Blades easier via Airbrush or by hand?Airbrushing should make bleding a whole lot easier, but masking, properly thinning the paints, edge highlighting witht he brush anyway I'm unsure if it is the better method
>>97549173Thanks!I want to buy a load of them for a lifetime supply and also as “pity purchases” from the lgs to support them and be allowed to use 3d prints. But if gamers grass goes under I’d need to know what keywords can be used to find close enough looking tufts to their burned tufts.
>>97549602I can see why people would want to, but I don't really think it's worth it with all the masking. Maybe if you had to paint a ton of them and were going to batch them. The larger blades like on destroyers are good places to practice your blending by brush anyway I think.I would add though, you can speed up the masking by mostly just wrapping the model in plastic wrap and only doing a little delicate masking around the blade itself, and even then if you haven't already painted the other details on the weapons overspray doesn't really matter that much since you'll just paint over it.
>>97549602>is painting X with airbrush easierYes. The answer is nearly universally yes. Properly thinning your paint is piss easy. Paint 1:1 Vince's mix (80/20 thinner/flow improver). Mix with some old brush or something, when the drop of the paint just drops without any stringing, it's ready. 90% of paints will require just 1:1 thinning. Nothing is preventing you from edge highlight with brush later. Speaking of masking; look into liquid masks. You can apply them with a brush like a normal (albeit thicc) paint. It makes the entire process even faster. Then spray, let it dry, and just remove the mask with your fingers/tweezers.
>>97549620Yeah I'm painting 1000pts all at once, almost all of it destroyers, so lots of blades.Another problem I see is the sides of the blades facing inwards on some models. Even with masking I doubt I can find good spraying angles.Right now I'm thinking of doing it via brush, then maybe use the airbrush to spray some black/white ink to increase the contrast, and finish with spraying some fluo paint. But at that point I can just fully use the airbrush...

>>97552259Painting isn't about one stroke and done. You've started, now finish. Painting anything well is about going back and forth with colours until it looks good. >>97552259The most obvious thing is to add some shading around them. Afterwards you can decide if you want to paint the pupils, you need some decent brush control for that though. If you do, make sure both eyes are facing the same direction or he'll look really weird.

>>97552660Don't worry anon I understood. Of course I'm also in my 30s and I have no idea how old you are. So that may not be as comforting as I thought when I started typing this.
I humbly submit my take on Johnny. Just gotta find a backpack for him
>>97552736I need you to find some old GW green flock.
>>97552736Also holy scale creep batman
>>97552544>>97552698How about using the the same (big) chain for the shoulder?I liked the look of the smaller chain at first, but I don't think I'm going to be able to find and links smaller than it anytime soon.
Should I try and paint an entire (albeit small) necron army in nmm? I feel like it might be good practice, but also setting myself up to never finish it.
>>97552957It would take a horrifying amount of effort, but it would definitely be good for practice. Though I'd recommend to start by just buying a necron kill team, maybe pick up some miscellaneous character minis from different ranges afterwards. I don't think a whole army of similar minis is going to teach you all that much desu, it would just be pure mechanical practice at that point.
>>97552757>Daddy, will I be a big terminator like you when I grow up>Only if you kill all your Orks son.
>>97547469yeah a little
Did a second coat for the spray painted parts because the first round was shit. Also got round to starting the trim on the main body (excuse the painted over spill). Plan to do the back legs tomorrow. Not sure if I should go full mephist red or prime them black.
>>97552736Excellent! The backpacks that fit the best are going to be the plastic First Edition ones that used to come on sprues of three with a bosspole.

>>97553139Also did some small bits for my CSM here.
Finished the transfers and sponge chipping my transports. Next, I move on to oils and enamels. I'm going to try pigment powders for the first time as well. Is it really so simple as dusting the model with a dry brush of powder and then setting it in place with a cotton swab of IPA or something?
>>97553366I resize the image 5 times and then don't actually post it.
>>97552770I don't think it's working.
>>97553139What do you mean prime them black? Aren't they already primed?
>>97553525Forgive me, I had a total brain fart.I meant to say they haven't been primed and that I would use mephiston red, then paint in the necessary details, but I'm not sure what colours to use for the fleshy bits. Didn't have time to do the back legs or the shoulder pieces when I started.
>>97553571Right. Yeah fleshy bits could be anything. People often go with human skin, but that always looks gross to me.
>>97553646>>97553571make them greenskins
kill human skin tones, behead human skin tones, roundhouse kick human skin tones into the concrete, slam dunk a human skin tone baby into the trash can, crucify filthy human skin tones, defecate into human skin tones food, launch human skin tones into the sun, stir fry human skin tones in a wok, toss human skin tones into active volcanoes, urinate into a human skin tones gas tank, Judo throw human skin tones into a wood chipper, twist human skin tones heads off, report human skin tones to the IRS, karate chop human skin tones in half, curb stomp pregnant human skin tones, trap human skin tones in quicksand, Crush human skin tones in the trash compactor, liquify human skin tones in a vat of acid, eat human skin tones, dissect human skin tones, stomp human skin tones skulls with steel-toed boots, cremate human skin tones in the oven, lobotomize human skin tones, mandatory abortions for human skin tones, grind human skin tones fetuses in the garbage disposal, drown human skin tones in fried chicken grease, vaporize human skin tones with a raygun, kick old human skin tones down the stairs, feed human skin tones to alligators, slice human skin tones with a katana
>>97553571You can go with a regular flesh tone and drag it towards a different direction with a wash. I usually do red for mine to get that swollen/inflamed look. Also don't forget about the cabling on those plasma cannons.
>>97553831where's that basing bit from?
For this year's project I've decided my Nagash need a proper army. Going for a classic "army of darkness" skelly horde as a core.First 10 skellys are done, 40ish more to go, just for the chaff. Wish me luck boys
>>97552660>googles itno gonna lie that would be a nice conversion to do, but i never finished any dragonlance book and i think i have 3 or 4 around the houseright now i'm thinking about converting rezo from slayers
Allow me to blogpost for a minuteI posted a few weeks ago with an old terminator librarian I found in a box of my old figures. He was the first "big" model I purchased and painted. I was wondering if I should strip the paint and repaint it with a better paint job. Well, some anons here and my close friends said I should instead just keep him as is and find an unpainted one to paint, for comparison and keepsake. I mulled it over for about a week before caving and buying a sealed one off ebay. What does GW do 3 days after it arrives? Announce a made to order of the exact model. I can at least cope knowing its an actual full metal one, no resin components but im seething a bit. When I saw the made to order announcement I was a bit peeved but didnt feel too strongly, and I wanted to pick up the chaplain termie since its a sick model, but then the actual page went up and theyre only sold as a 3-pack. Thank you for your attention
>>97553522oh well, thanks for taking a look
>>97553366>of IPAno, that's a memeif you don't have pigment fixer use, varnish, medium, or even pva glue very thin, ipa does snothing to fix the pigments, it can help any of the former to flow better thoget proper fixer if you plan to use them more
Warhammer darkwater sucked assGlad i painted every mini o_o
>Battlestation thread>No minis in sightDo people just spend tons of money on paint and equipment without using them?
>>97554406yes, just like people spend time reposting some redditors battlestation as engagement bait
>>97554406>those specks on the monitorand that is why you don't paint at your computer, anons
>>97554406You need to go back.
Where should i place the white highlight reflection something dots on eyes?
>>97554560eyes are glossy and reflective, so just base it off your light source and your viewing angle. Or just put it off to any side, intersecting the pupil at the edge.
>>97554560top corner on the side your light is coming from
>>97554406It looks like it’s a pain in the ass to get the paint up there and put it back in place
>>97554360Hell yeah is this al Malifaux mini?? Id like to get different types of models and minis from companies other than GW but my friends only consume GW minis and to me it feels like a waste of money if I buy anything else and don't get to use them in games
>>97554625isn't malifaux as expensive as gw or more?
>>97548806>use a strainerThanks!I’m planning on using raw umber soft bodied acrylics as the sand’s primary brown color. Not sure what the drybrush color should be but I’m open to suggestions. I’m also planning on buying loads of bases to practice drybrushing on.The name “hooker’s green” made me chuckle because hooker joke when I was looking through the liquitex acrylic paint catalogue.Lastly I read that mod podge can be used in place of pva glue. The source I read said that mod podge can be used straight from the bottle to the base via brush without need of water thinning. Can anyone confirm this from experience?Does this lastly mean that a 50/50 mix of water and mod podge will work as a sand sealant?Any drawbacks I should know of when choosing modpodge over standard pva?
>>97554740youre welcomejust keep it simple and glue on that sand and lock it down with watered down pva like it has been done since forever
>>97554738Per model yeah, but you don't need nearly as many models per game as it caps out at like kill team sizes.
>>97554625Yup it is malifaux (on a gw base)I honestly rly struggle having fun playing any wargameI just love and paint the minisThe most fun i had recently was with trench crusadeIm rly lucky to have found a play group that stresses fully painted models and goes fully narrativeDarkwater SUCKED ASS it was crazy i felt bad for my bros
Is it worth painting troops in sub assemblies, or should I just build them and then paint and accept I won't really be able to paint areas that are blocked by other bits like arms and guns very well?
>>97554919No one can decide that but you, are you the kind of person who's going to be eternally frustrated knowing there's a little bit of visible primer on the back of a gun if you hold the model upside down and backwards or are you the kind of person who'll be satisfied knowing they look good standing on a table or shelf?
>>97554919Depends on your livery and if you think the poses are annoying enough to paint into given areas. Capes can be one such example, Custodian Wardens got those loincloths but they're not as much of an issue if you haven't based yet.
>>97555130I'm trying to accept tabletop quality and get ovef my perfectionism.
So is the texture pallete shit actually make dry brushing less grainy than papel tower?
>>97555221Grain effect comes from losing moisture. "Dry" brush is still supposed to carry some since they whole point is to deposit very small amount of paint to most upper sections of the surface. Paper towel absorb moisture and cause dry pigment to cling to the surface instead. That being said, "texture palette" is somewhat overpriced stuff since you can use anything else - I use cover for old calendar or plastic box from sweets, for example. Exhibit A on pic.
>>97555221no but it includes a useless knick nack which makes is better for some reasonbecause these days things cant just be simple as everything needs an accessory of some sorts15th attempt, you know the drill this is just insane and im not paying
>>97554776Alright I’ll use pva.I better get started on practice bases.Thanks!>>97555292What candies are those?I have a bad phone and probably bad eyes. Can’t read the fancy cursive text.I’d like my future texture palette to come with some sweets.
>>97555432Ptasie Mleczko. Of course you won't be able to read it since it's not just using fancy font but it's also mirrored. Its "E. Wedel".
emergency bake>>97555454>>97555454>>97555454
>>97554740mod podge is basically pva glue with some varnish in itthickness comes down to water content as with pva glue, some brands are thicker some are thinnerwhen using as a sealant add water and a couple drops of ipa so it flows properly
