No not really, I think the problem is when they scale creeped their new models and tried to give them more realistically proportions, but they also tried to keep the silly Warhammer elements, it just doesn't work. It looks stupid. The silly Warhammer shit looks good on the whacky oldhammer models, but it's just gay on the new models. It's uncanny and comes off as ridiculous (bad). It's like the new IG models, they tried to make them more realistically instead of stocky squat dudes and that just made them look stupid. Their helmets were made to be chunky, and noa they just look undersized and retarded, like those helmets you put on infants with mishaped heads to try to correct the shape. And the "DYMANIC" poses are so fucking awful, on these Emperors children, it looks like faggots posing for a theatre plays promo poster, not men fighting in war.

I half agree half don’t. Truescale will always be better than heroic scale; I do not miss tree trunk hands of my childhood high elf spearmen. But one of the caddies lately infiltrated the design teams just does not understand that helmets have to go OVER a head. And so all the helmeted heads on the new HH minus (and the emps champs) are comically small. Same thing for the IG you mentioned. But the rest of the space marines and csm look good and I’m glad that even though the rescaled primaris they kept the heads and pauldrons the same size as my old ones so I can mix and match.

And dynamic models look cool, but repeat poses do not so that’s a double edged sword imo.

After much trial and error, headaches, and around 200 hours of printing, I finally have all the pieces for divine axe rhitta.
Anybody have any large prop experience? What's the best way to get everything glued? Im using weld on 16 but I have never tried to line up something so big and I have to hold it together for a few minutes to let it set.
Also, recommendations for metalic spray paint. It's mostly gold with a little silver. Im hoping to use my airbrush for finer details.

Soldering iron to welt the pieces seems popular for large pieces, however with PLA at least, I use JB weld, it's stronger than either direction of the actual plastic so if the print could hold itself together then the jb weld should be fine as long as the part was clean and not glossy smooth.
That said, it's probably too late, but registration pins or overlaps would be the best option. and then an assortment of clamps and binder clips as necessary. Circle/square pegs and just printing pegs that fit as registration is good. In your case, some

I prefer to treat props like a real thing rather than a part printed in blocks and glued together at the square edges. Like when making the model I would design all the parts individually and how they assemble in a semi-realistic way and then print and finish each part individually and then combine them.

Your issue there is going to be in-plane registration, and large binder clips will help with that. and epoxies, jb-weld, etc. will bridge any gaps alright so I would recommend loading up the joints with an epoxy, binder clips or other clamps just to keep the blade flat, and expect to have to fix some squeeze out afterwards. It's still going to require clean up either way.

In the future though if you do this, make sure you add pegs/registration - I think a lot of slicers have features for this already that just automatically print the pins as well. And remember that it's all going to be pretty fragile even under the best circumstances. it looks like you are already using a pvc pipe for the handle which is good. If I can get away with using something like sheet goods or pipes and then just decorate them with the printed parts that is ideal, like in this case I might have done the flat part of the blade in eva foam with some kind of armature and just had the flowy bits 3d printed.

Use automotive spray paint, not like a rustoleum for the base metallic coat.

I just put them in a jar and fill it with IPA until they're all submerged, then just leave it at least overnight. You should be able to snap the superglued parts apart with little force. If not, just put them back and let them soak some more. It's not going to damage your plastic anyway.
I recuperated some of my old minis that way.

and just to reiterate those water hobby products really do work if you want a thin film of something that looks like water or to play around with a large surface
for your purposes basic epoxy with a little paint in it is all you need, you can pour it as thick as you want instead of 1mm at time and it never goes white on you
you can save those bases too with a little epoxy magic, that white might even look cool underneath in the end

Okay, this is probably a stupid question but - how much thinning Vallejo Mecha Color primers require? H&S instruction videos suggest at least 1:1 thinning with everything but last time I tried 1:1 thinning this primer, it resulted in it literally flowing on the surface, with air blowing it around. Then again, when I used it straight from bottle, it would quickly dry on the tip and clog the airbrush. Likewise, video on using Mecha Color paints on Vallejo own channel shows a guy using 5 drops of flown improver, 2 of thinner per 10 of primer but Vallejo own instructions on bottle suggest against adding more than 2 drops of flow improver per 10 drops of paint. I'm confused.

the entire world (minus bongoloids and various els) uses the terminology I am promoting. this is clearly evident just by looking at jewgle search results for various terms, for example "clear coat plastic model" gives 86m results vs "varnish plastic model" only returning 24m, or the fact that american made products that people use for clear coating models advertise themselves as clear coat and not varnish. if you are br*tish or esl I feel sorry for you, but again that's a problem you have to deal with yourself. I am strictly talking to americans here. using the wrong terminology just makes you sound like a xenophile, like saying "petrol" instead of gasoline.

Continuing from last thread near the end there was talk about texture palettes or drybrushing palettes.
Is it just a silly “Rube Goldberg hobby tool” and paper towels work fine or is it genuinely good?
Anybody use one able to comment on usefulness vs paper towel?

I’ve only gotten a dimple tray for easier mixes of pva glue and water a single glossy white square bathroom tile for metallic paints in accordance to the debate about whether metallic acrylics cause problems with wet palettes and a diy wet palette.
>>
>>97558647
Very nice anon.
What paints and steps did you use for painting that lad?

You reminded me that I need to paint a deliberately improperly assembled skeleton miniature where the arms are instead legs.
Love the heart hands and I need a source.
Would look for a female necromancer model and have that lad in the back of the base doing that pose.
>>
>>97558750
Thanks. I've been using artists paints like Liquitex and Golden and washes from Army Painter. I'll admit my process is pretty haphazard but I pretty much start with a dark brown base coat (burnt umber), dry brush with a brownish-yellow (burnt umber and yellow ochre) and another drybrush with an off-white (i used something called unbleached titanium). A brown wash for a gradient and layer/glaze where necessary.

The skeleton is from Warlord Games, the hands are shaped to allow custom weapons (seriously a missed opportunity to have more empty handed skeleton arms). The arms are modified by gluing the hands by the fingers and carefully cutting the elbows to repose and glue them. Then I add some green stuff to add some minor details like longer fingers. The "eyes" by the way are incredibly short and thin plasticard rods (.5 mm) because making dots in the sockets wasn't working out. Hope this helps.
>>
>>97558836
Thanks!
>liquitex paints
I plan to use raw umber for sand basing painting after thinning it a lot.
Soft bodied acrylic raw umber. Anything I should be aware about using paints like that instead of the usual miniature painting focused acrylics?
Just in case.
>>
Is it a better stylistic choice to have tufts a slightly different colour than the static grass?
Like light green grass and dark green tufts for terrain I plan to do?
Just curious as I haven’t found images that answer my question.
>>
>>97558849
They're pretty similar, like you can still do the "test on skin" trick to see if it's thin enough. Soft body has a satin finish while gouaches dry matte, probably not a problem if you're going to varnish anyway.
>>
>>97558864
I plan to varnish all of my models.
So it won’t be a problem unless I don’t shake my bottles enough.
>>
>>97557916
Same, and being nice is fun. And I’ll be honest it does really matter to people. If by the morning I check and see that someone replied it feels good to see a comment even if all they did was say it looks nice. They still took the time to do that and that means something.
>>
>>97556958
All this effort just for it to be somehow lazy and look like shit. What's dissapointing is your models themselves are actually fine but your laziness and inability to see things look like shit is actively hurting you

Don't doubt your self critique - the reason the pistols look like shit is because they aren't drilled

The reason the tea leaves look like shit is because you went overboard, there's a reason we don't flock solid grass anymore - it looks like shit

The rock looks like shit too because it's just resting on top of the base. You have to stop and think: does this look like something I've seen in real life? Does this look like anybody else's models? If not, 99.99999% of the time you're the retard. Unless you're a YouTuber, Golden Demon winner, or Instagram famous your experimenting outside of the norms is wrong and looks like shit.

>>97558853
Yes but you have to mix sand or rocks into it otherwise it looks weird. Solid grass for some reason just looks like shit on miniatures.

For something like this you can't use the short flock, you need a static gun and be super autistic about it. The best method to evoke long grass is to do a sand base and get tufts of varying heights and colors. A lot easier and, desu, looks a lot better unless you're doing something like Mongolians or the Scottish Highlands. Most of nature does not have shin height grass coverage at least not where battles usually take place or where armies march through.

Insincere positivity is not welcome in my eyes. It's an American cultural thing that most other places in the world experience as simply lying.
>>
>>97559453
That's not how it works, anon. Let's ignore that only very few people here use artist-grade acrylics (why even use them? It makes little sense). But even when you actually smoosh a little on your skin, it does nothing, because the (cadmium, cobalt, etc.) pigment is encased in the acrylic binder. I would have to look up the data, but imo the absorption rate would be less than 1%, probably very close to zero.
That means that you probably shouldn't use these paints for painting on skin in large quantities (again, why even), but testing the consistency on your skin is completely fine.
Now, airbrushing these without a respirator, that's when it would get fucky.

Those are not rocks, but pieces of tree bark, anon. You can either find it outside, or buy some from any garden store, since nearly perfect sized pieces of bark are sold as garden covering.
>>
I want to use some 3d printed pillars as psuedo flight stands for some jump pack units, have them jumping off them you know? i bought a bag of assorted cork stoppers from amazon. you can break them apart with your fingers.

if you want actual rocks, you could look into small rocks for aquariums.
>>
>>97560234
Can't you just measure the cap you have? Though that said, I have a Vallejo bottle where the top popped and I've simply sealed that up with a big blob of paint. Somehow that has held up for well over a year now. As for replacements finding a cap on its own may prove troublesome, but empty bottles with caps are sold by AK, Army Painter, etc.

How often do you replace your nippers? I've had my Beaditives for a few years now and they definitely don't cut like butter the way they did when new. Still plenty good, but they do feel worn.
Would it be worth it to get something like a godhand?
>>
>>97562288
I've been using my tamiyas sharp pointed cutters for like 2 years at this point and they still cut very well. I never tried them myself but I think I remember people here saying godhands are more suitable for gunpla plastic, whatever that means.
>>
>>97562288
I honestly believe that GodHands are overpriced memes. Sure, they cut very cleanly but other single blade nippers that cost 1/3 or less from other companies like Dspiae or Mr Hobby cut only marginally worse and are much more durable so ce they are not as sharp.

Im surprised you need to replace your nippers after 2 years. I have a pair of Mr Hobby normal nippers (Mt-102 I guess?) that serve me for 10 years already and are still very good.
>>
Unusual question but I still cannot really decide on what colors to use on my scratchbuild project I was posting here since last month. Initially I opted for rather "classic" red with black for parts under armor and white details but it sounds a bit "cliche". What else would fit for veteran mechanized fighter using melee weaponry and relaying on speed?

My last attempt at recasting went pretty well, but I gave away my last one some time ago and have not made any more since. The hard part now is sourcing appropriate plastic backpacks.

Cultist-chan kitbash. Used the body of the female chaos cultist with the mechanical arm. I carved out the mechanical parts, shaved off the shirt, and opened the skirt to reveal the panties. Swapped the left arm for a witch elf one, and the banner pole is made from spare sister of battle simulacrum parts. The head is from Wargame Exclusive. She'll give some liquid green stuff to add details and hide seems. She'll be tournament legal too which was the goal.

any tips for recasting metal? I've tried a few times but its never turned out very well.

Check out Robert Tolone's videos on Youtube.
Use a silicone that is rated for higher temperatures. The blue stuff in this picture, Micro-Mark's 1-to-1, is not tough enough to withstand the heat.
Heat up your molds before you use them.
Dust your molds before you use them.
Cut vents when things don't fill up right.

>The hard part now is sourcing appropriate plastic backpacks
The appropriate backpack has been scanned, I believe, it's merely a matter of printing it.

Shame there's no actual johnny scan of adequate quality, only the digital remake and low detail one.

Made a rock perch for my lammasu, think it turned out pretty good.
>>
>>97563875
God damn phone posting. Made it with a core of miliput on a brass rod, then put some green stuff on it and pressed some rocks into it to give it the right texture.
>>
>>97563875
>>97563882

I think the lammasu itself is turning out pretty well, was a bitch to fit together. Lots of mold lines and pieces just not fitting right.

It's really nice that you're using precious GS to make big blobby rocks, I hope you have a very good day and nothing bad happens to you.

avies and milliput will still be around
>>
>>97563860
what metal are you using? I'm surprised that silicone molds work at all. I thought you would have to use foundry sand or a lost wax method.

>It's really nice that you're using precious GS to make big blobby rocks, I hope you have a very good day and nothing bad happens to you.

I used some old ribbon greenstuff that needs to be used anyway given that stuff has a limited lifespan. I got a few tubes of it in my freezer for when I actually need it. And like I said, the main core is milliput, the greenstuff is just a thin outer layer.

pewter has a melting point around 400-450f depending on composition, easy enough to reach in your kitchen oven.

>>97563860
thanks anon, will take all into account next attempt

I'm like 99% sure GW will step up and produce it with a big gap in the market. they already make their Liquid Green Stuff so it wouldn't be much of a leap.

I see I was thinking about brass or aluminum when I heard metal casting

Nah, the whole point of pewter is that you can melt it with a blow torch and use soft molds.

One guy has been driving 40kg and now wip nuts. That's basically the whole story. 40kg is generally bad but if you go over there the past couple of days it's also even more of a disaster than usual.
>>
>>97564183
I wonder if it’s perrynigger. He’s been back for the last two days shitting up /wfg/ and /aosg/. I wonder if he also targets 40k and WIP. Him posting the porn shit would correlate to his pornographic posts in /wfg/. Genuinely if we had even 1 mod this could all be ended.
>>
>>97564193
he tried to shit up 40kg with some t-sports meme but kept getting banned and gave up
>>
>>97564210
Well that’s good. But it would still be nice to have moderation that is online more often than once every 4-5 days as it seems. Reporting him constantly and he’s constantly breaking board rules but his shit stays up.
>>
>>97564213
A mod/janny would need to be on this board 24/7 to keep up with all the shitposters and their ban evading. They should've increased the delay when posting from a new device instead of shortening it.

What happened to not feeding the trolls? The average age here is in the 30's, grow the fuck up and post some models or C&C others.
>>
>>97564667
the fact that they're 30 and still posting on a thread they don't participate in tells you all you need to know
they're not mentally sound, they have to constantly invent new lolcows to hound to convince their aging brain that they're not wasting their lives shitposting on a dead website for 10+ years

What? When this was announced and why?
>>
>>97564667
It's been proven multiple times on this website that its VERY common for a small number of posters in a general to do most of the shitposting. Even here not long ago one sperg admitted to making multiple recurring shitposts. Theres really not that many people on /tg/, we're not /v/ or /pol/ with thousands of unique posters. Anyway let's just drop it, you're definitely right about the ignoring the shitposters part
>>

I've personally been accused of being this or that sperg several times in discussions and I very much doubt I'm alone in that.
>>
>>97564825
Interesting. I've been in this general for 3 years and I was never accused of being one of the spergs, I wonder why that is? Have you tried, you know, not shitposting?
>>
>>97558917
Nice grass variation, makes it look more realistic, if you had an animal on it it would look alive.
>>
>>97563247
My Halgrim was broken up from sprues shifting around during transport. First time I ever contacted GW and asked for a replacement from a product I bought from their online store for premium price. I was told no replacements were available and I was shit out of luck.
>>

It's been in response to people disagreeing with me in a discussion, not shitposting. Either way, my point stands. People create scapegoat personas.

>>
>>97565348
How small? Also, you know, you can take a piece of plastic, drill it all the way with your intended inner barrel diameter and then drill from one side to about half the distance with barrel outside diameter, then use it as a guide. That way, you will drill exactly at the middle.
>>
>>97565367
>>97565368
ok, maybe not too small, but it doesn't look like it would be worth the effort with how thin the barrels are
like third of a toothpick's thickness maybe

sand casting has an extremely noticeable surface texture, it would delete all detail on the mini.
