I have decided to give up buying models for Lent.

So you can expect the new Cathay box to come out and sell out immediately some time before April 2nd.

Also, in the off chance they do it, Australia. I still desperately want a forest goblin sublist with new giant insects and such, and a lush jungle fantasy Australia would be perfect.

>Eternal Taskmaster: During the Command sub-phase of their Turn, this character may attempt to drive a unit they have joined to greater efforts by making a Leadership test (using their own Leadership). If this test is passed, until your next Start of Turn sub-phase this character and any unit they have joined gains the Extra Attacks (+1) and Hatred (all enemies) Special Rules.

This applies to all the characters attached to the unit as well?

>>
>>97570607
in fairness, beastmen are meant to invoke the "half man, half beast" imagery as seen in old mythologies. they are very satyr inspired. They are men with the head of goats and cows, and are savage creatures of dark magic.

Skaven on the other hand are just rat men, quite literally described in today's vernacular as furry rats. Of course, their adoption and sexualization by furries was never intended, but also beastmen dont have the same appeal to the furry eye as skaven.

>we aren't making an ind faction
>cathay has troops from all over the place
>lets give them tigermen mercenaries

>china has a white tiger as sacred symbol of the eastern cardinal direction
>lets connect the tigermen of cathay to the eastern province with a white tiger

>we must explain why the tigermen are in cathay if they're from ind
>lets make the white tiger an important figure that guided these ones through a migration into that eastern province

>tigermen were written as beastmen born from chaos
>but we can't have chaos aligned units in cathay
>let's make them not chaos but with room for deniability and a hint at a previous allegiance to chaos

>we want diversity, but don't want sexualisation
>lets make the females' bodytype identical to the males (also that saves money on animations)

magic gave their indian tigermen better designs, they even gave them horns and a continuity with demons
>>

If they gave them horns there couldn't be any deniability regarding their actual origins.
Even skaven, despite being a "beastmen race" don't have horns outside of their demons and highest authorities.

Plus the ones that migrated to cathay seem to be an offshoot of some kind, the actual indish ones might be like that.

it's been the long-standing favourite color of pretty much all 'eavy metal painters for over 20 years, it's just that they were rarely 'allowed' to use it because most factions schemes had already been cemented long before that in a completely different context of publications and paint making that favoured the bolder and more basic red-orange, neon-green and deep blue

Literally any fucking battle/war. Make actually detailed campaigns. Make the siege of Vraks level detailed battle in WHFB. Cept, all the writers are fucking retarded goyim who wish to copy marvel slop and are actually too stupid to do it, which is why we'll never get it.

If you allow me to brag I honestly think that I'm my own favourite when it comes to conversions and army concept for Beastmen that I've seen. While I'm far from good at painting (or taking photos) I think that I'm really starting to get a good handle on converting stuff.

Haven't finished a model in ages, but here's a photo of some of the gors I've done for my all unique, nurgle-themed beastie boys.
>>
>>97571281

These look very interesting. I like how mutated and chaotic they are. While I think the beastmen plastics have aged well, they are still pretty uniform for being the molested stepchildren of chaos.
>>
>>97571004
Looks good! I dig the red tone of the skin you're going with. Gives it a sort of inflammed, almost skinless vibe that makes them appear even more like abominations.
>>
>>97570585
Tbh I would have preferred they be chaos
>>
>>97571249
Cept the information is shit. The storytelling is constrained by a desire to limit it to a very game-y form and the authors are genuinely too stupid to properly understand neither our reality nor the fantasy implications of it.
>x hid his troops behind a ridgeline
Very cool, Y can fly up and see them.
>flank anchored by forest
Very cool, undead troops wouldn't care about that.
And also, the omnipresent (((unit from tabletop))) played a crucial role, fighting to the last against (((unit from tabletop))).

None of the modern GW faggots know dick about history or how battles actually work. WHFB used to have this stuff in the early editions, back when they had literal historians and archeologists working at the company. Nowadays you're correct, the millennial GW staff grew up on Star Wars and Marvel Avengers and literally think a battle is two massive groups of dudes literally just running at each other, with the leader at the head, to have a giant disorganized brawl in the center of the field
>>
>>97571684
>WHFB used to have this stuff in the early editions, back when they had literal historians and archeologists working at the company.
Was this actually the case? I suspected it (simply because some of the early and middle era lore made a lot of sense and was actually kino), but never bothered to look into it. Do you have names?

I get why people don't want to proxy Empire or any other faction, but for me Bretonnia has always been one that I think is being done a disservice by using official models. Aesthetically there isn't enough to set their rank and file apart from historical foot soldiers, so I feel like you're shooting yourself in the foot by using GW models when 3rd party historicals exist that are the exact same aesthetically, much cheaper, and better sculpted

I see this and the concept art in the Community post and I really have to wonder what's with the huge solid pauldron obsession and applying it to the new eastern factions based on cultures that hardly used them that way. Like how the videogame design for the jade warriors has unassuming lamellar armor going from the shoulder down the arm, bu the moment they transfer them to TOW it's BAM! Big plate pauldrons. Not a big fan of GW treating huge pauldrons as a staple of the setting, because they are precisely the biggest thing that makes people cry out 'Warcraft aesthetic'. Not a fan of the size increase on recent Empire models either, even if the plater equipment actually fits here.

The concept art for the tiger sorcerer is the only one I'm fine it, with no pauldrons period and with all the jewelry and equipment above the belt actually hinting at their fantasy indian heritage. Well, I can't say I'm well acquainted with historical indian armor, but a cursory search shows me that they weren't into bigass shoulder armor either.

I haven't played any games yet. How many core units do i need for scoring? Is 1 big 30-40 unit blob enough?
>>
>>97572675
Scoring isn't as important as killing models. This isn't 40k. Regardless, no, you don't need 40 models in one unit. That's a death star and it's not primarily used to hold an objective. Go with multiple units of 10-15 models instead if objectives are what you care about. Just make sure they stay above unit strength 10 for as long as possible.

That doesn't work as we do have examples of human nobility from Ind.

I don't know what the fan-book tried to do for ind, but considering gw's trends, it's far more likely that they would not have exotic humans replaced by or directly underneath of some fantasy race.
even when it comes to cathay they made the relation awfully good and flawless, with hybrids in-between as well.

So fantasy indian humans and fantasy indian beastmen would have to exist as either two parallel societies or with humans in charge or at least as equals in some way.

If we start from the assumption that ind being the "land of a thousand gods" isn't an exaggeration, then it could be an extremely decentralised culture with each city or region having a different relation with their beastmen and their gods, handwaving any truly problematic worldbuilding with "anything goes somewhere else". with the safer regions looking like a normal human civilization with beastmen clustered around and inside the temples as intermediates for the gods, to darker outskirt villages where men are preyed upon by beasts that pretty much act or are demons.

I think what's more interesting would be setting down why ind would have so many gods:
is there something special in ind that allows for gods to rise as a common enough occurrence?
is their definition of god so lax that simple kings, warlords, sorcerers or mutants could be hailed as such?
is it all fake pantheistic mumbo jumbo and the power they believe comes from the gods has a different source?

From what I remember the fan project was set after the End Times didn't quite end the world, and the Tigermen taking over was a result of that. Had my first TOW game yesterday and ran into a rules thing we couldn't quite work out. A unit of chaos warriors was sandwiched between black knights and skeletons, the unit broke and had to flee. How exactly does that play out? I know they have to flee away from the greatest unit strength, do they take perils tests from the other unit they were locked in with? If they had FBIGO would they still have taken perils tests and the undead would have reformed or overran as normal? Pic rel

It's a real shame that these factions only came to be fleshed out during a time of extreme political correctness, because those societal flaws that the writers are terrified to portray are precisely what gives flavor. It's like removing the superstition and witch hunts in the Empire, the peasant abuse and inbreeding from Bretonnia, or the family feuds and backstabbing from Tilea. Kislev already went lame when they erased the ethnic conflict, and with Cathay they outright refused to implement any flaw that could be used for humor.

Zhao Ming is like the sole Cathay character that is allowed to be flawed and a bit silly, and is automatically the best character in the whole faction for it.

Gentlemen, I come to you with a moral quandary. My chaos warband is going to be facing off against the perfidious forces of Cathay once again in two days' time and seeing as I got my ass thoroughly handed to me last time I feel the need to come up with new strategies and tactics. As it currently stands, my entire army has been painted in the colours of chaos undivided. If I want to win, it would be advantageous to give some of my units marks even though they haven't been painted to look like they'd have this mark. Would this be as grave a sin as I think it is?

From The Old World map. GW had updated the map last year, and added far more detail than what is now.
When some redditards complained that some places and names were from non-gw sources, they removed from their website.

They didn't complain, they wanted a guy who didn't want credit to get credit for making these locations the entire thing was dumb

Ogres seem like a formidable fighting force in the fluff. Tamurkhan's army nearly got halted until he directly intervened.

In warfare, how would Chaos and Orcs+Goblins conventionally defeat an Ogre army on the field?

Someone got some highland skeletons for comparison?
>>
>>97577661
Unironically, orcs and gobbos outsmart them and out fight them. Though (most) can't physically compare, they definitely understand tactics and know how to use their force better.
Chaos can overpower ogres because warp bullshittery. Unless you mean beastmen, who win on skirmish/hit and run tactics, bigger monsters, and higher mobility.
>>
>>97577661
ogres' problems are logistics, leadership and the desire to try solving things the brutal way before trying a different way

they probably aren't too good with sieges or in any situation where the enemy is using terrain to their advantage to break off their units and momentum

Thanks lads. Guess that is why a lot of ogre incursions aren't a big thing. Suppose it makes sense with orcs and gobbos, who are used to fighting more, would know tactics better than ogres.

Same with Chaos and Chaos steroids and BS.

Just received the big boy himself. It's quite huge! I have to learn how to apply snow on such a big terrain

yeah, throw a D6, on a 2+, you can pump one of your stat by D3. A 1 sent you to hell and the model was removed.

it's kind of nuts that the next preview is a month away and it hasn't released but if anything it presages basically zero content for TOW for a long time, as per the rumour. We're looking at anything previewed in March coming out September earliest.
>>
>>97578577
Your September prediction doesn’t track with last years March Cathay reveal that the had pre orders up end of June for first week of July release
>>
>>97578587
last year didn't have a 40k edition release retard, not was that even remotely a 'typical' GW release.
>>
>>97578623
Calm down Mr. esl. A new edition doesn’t mean we can’t get a couple kits thrown our way in the same timeframe.

Cathay pre order announcement this Sunday. Warriors and Knights kit in 2 weeks. Adepticon preview will be the Tomb Kings vs Wood Elves box.
>>
has anyone heard any leaks about new books for the old world? I think the last thing I read about was something about tomb kings featuring a gay priest thats written by mike brooks, but beyond that I havent seen anything else.
>>
>>97579482
Dude, they're releasing the custodes next.
>>
>>97578390
If they had just revealed the Marauders at the November show and this Cathay box at the January show then everything would feel like it was released at a normal pace.
Revealing the Marauders separately and the Cathay in Nov for release half a year later makes it feel a lot longer than it is.
>>
>>97579489
GW in the past have released HH boxes and TOW stuff in the same release week
HE Bloodbowl could also be next week
>>
>>97579652
It's weird because I took a break and now the box still isn't here. I just asked in case I missed it and we're now waiting for the stand alone kits.
>>
>>97579667
Yeah you're good, should be any week now.
They did say on reveal the Cathay stuff would go on preorder LATE Winter, so March makes sense.
Would be insane if its not out before Adepticon.

Great work anon, do you think it’s worth doing fake scripture on the hanging pennants? - you’d have to do one fake heiroglyph though, admittedly that’s a challenge

And may I just say thanks to all anons actually hobby posting, you’ve hyped me up shoulder be damned to touch those weapon teams up.
I’ve cleaned up the eyes of the front gunners, added some cloth highlights on the off yellow and some a touch more detailing on claws and metals.
Now I’m actually done. Shoulder sore but 100% worth.
