So which version of the Ogroid Thaumaturge is objectively better? The one that can teleport, or the one that kills mages and eats their soul?

StD needs it's gambling back. At least a D66 table, anything less is unflavorful.
>>97582125>What does that imply? The lamentiri lost in the age of chaos will be replenished, whether you like it or not.
>>97582154But Belakor, think of the children....NOT LIKE THIS!
>>97582131Tzeentch rules leaked?
>>97579661No, I don't think it'll be quite like that. I think we'll get more normal ish looking dwarfs that represent the more normal worship of the ancestor gods, while current fyreslayers models will be more hardcore grimnir cultists. But that's all speculation on my part for now.>>97582125Oh also about that underworlds being replaced by a UW/WC successor game (picrel), according to the tga guys that comes from an account that used to be pretty trustworthy but has fallen off completely in recent years. Example they gave was the guy saying 2025 gloomspite release would be a bunch of spiderfang stuff (lol).I can definitely see them trying to merge underworlds and warcry into something more like killteam, but I wouldn't particularily take this guys word for it.
>>97582183There are videos reviewing the book.
>>97582125
>>97582192>according to the tga guys that comes from an account that used to be pretty trustworthy but has fallen off completely in recent yearsDo you mean Hastings? Because yeah that guy hasn't been right in years.
>>97582305I think that was the name yeah. According to tga it's a different guy posting from the same account.
>>97582192>I can definitely see them trying to merge underworlds and warcry into something more like killteam, but I wouldn't particularily take this guys word for it.I kinda thought Warcry was already doing that.
>>97582334I think one of the big differences is that killteam doesn't allow you to just take a bunch of mainline models and build a warband out of it like you can with warcry. Switching to bespoke only like underworlds would move it closer to kill team in that way.
>>97582343Which is funny because didn't warcry start like that and patch in the build-your-own pdfs way later?
>>97582347I don't quite remember but I *think* it started off with the chaos realm-themed warbands only yeah
>>97582356You could technically play a few other Warcry warbands at launch but it was definitely bespoke warband focused for about five minutes after release. You had tons of physical cardpacks and books being cranked out very quickly to let you play with generic models though, that aspect definitely overshadowed the "intended" Warcry experience almost immediately.
>>97582250Lel
>>97582356Yes it originally had a more focused theme being specifically warband’s fighting for Archaon’s favour in the Eightpoints. In that respect it was more like Mordheim, a snapshot of one part of the setting, but they quickly turned it into just AoS skirmish. It never really settled on a progression/economy/injury system that worked well either, which is really the special sauce of Mordheim, Necromunda and Blood Bowl imo.
New OBR warband got legends rules up
>>97582621Don’t care, where is by tome leak?
>>97582635N/A
>>97582125So on Warhammer Weekly someone mentioned a new Fyreslayers leak and apparently it's not great news. Can anyone fill me in? Kinda surprised they teased Fyreslayers and ogres yet we are seeing fucking sylvaneth, LRL and Tzneetch first
>>97582684>Kinda surprised they teased Fyreslayers and ogres yet we are seeing fucking sylvaneth, LRL and Tzneetch firstgw teased some of the year's bigger releases, not the nearest
>>97582681Alright, now the rest
>>97579059TK are pretty good, they are excellent in that they can 'play up or play down.' You can do a fun list and generally it won't be complete shit, and if you NEED to be a sweaty try hard, they can be very competitive. Undead are very, very forgiving in TOW so it's a much easier entry point
>>97582681Wait wtf? Since when does this attack?
>>97582681This kinda no-sells a lot of DoT plays
>>97582697It's just a crumble of a leak from the OBR discord. OBR doesn't have based leakers, just GW cucks
>>97582684>>97582690GW confirmed the releases that got leaked in resposn to the leaker not shuting up.We weren't suppodes to know any of that stuff
>>97582684Those teases were for (some of) the major releases left in the edition, not like an immediate roadmap or something. I believe right before they released those teasers one of the rumourmongers leaked a bunch of shit so they probably wanted to do some damage control.Either way, as for fyreslayers, the rumours are that they're going to be souped with more normal looking dwarves, possibly called "Khazalid Holds". They are losing a few kits, I think it was the basic berzerker one, the silver tower hero, and then another hero, I forgot which exactly but it had grim in the name. All the rest is staying, and they're also getting some more fyreslayer stuff, including a kit involving magmadroths. Now, as said before, the rest of the update will focus on more "normal" dwarfs, though we don't really know what those kits will be or look like. I think the number 12 was mentioned, so something the size of the helsmith wave seems likely. Supposedly this will be the final tome of the edition, so late 2026 or early 2027.
>>97582736That's not new at all. Nothing new got leaked?
>>97582125Legit one of the coolest models ever made. I want to get her and I don't even play trees.
>>97582748Oh, you already knew about all that? In that case, no, as far as I'm aware nothing new on the fyreslayer front. Boole did pop up the other to share some new rumoursloppa but it was about the eshin stuff that's coming.
>>97582745That's really nice!
They showed a new Tree. It's a sign.
>>97582681now this makes me actually want to play that thing. the old ability was trash, like most things in the faction pack.
>>97582792I'm pissed because I enjoyed not having to take it to games because it's a pain to transport now the effect is so strong you are crippling yourself if you don't take it
>>97582777The preview just confirmed zero kurnothi this edition. Let's see if you last until maybe 5th (if AoS even lasts to 6th at this point is up for debate)

>>97583009gargoylian aka nurgling but for the sigmarite faith.
>>97582681It's an upgrade but extremely bland and uninspired. For all the mentions of collecting bone tithe there isn't much mechanically that interacts with it. Speaks volumes the designer just saw a guy with a big fuckin sword and wanted to make him swing it instead of making something out of what the statue actually is there for. Why don't all the mortisans restore models, why doesn't this terrain give a bonus to that, and the harvester? Mortisans literally have fucking art competitions out of creating bone constructs. This is a huge stockpile of bone tithe. Make it make sense. They need to borrow the writer for tomb kings or 10e index necrons.

>>97583116Idk it could be a 3 or a 5.
>>97583009Gargoylians, little base decoration dudes that follow them around in the lore. Based on medieval marginalia. Not much is known about them but I believe it's stated somewhere that they fucking hate chaos. They're cute.

>>97583059Restrictive costly recursion.Redundant ward save reduction with shrieker.Redundant with some units 3 up roll on a charge crit 2 hits battle formation.Redundant with some units plus one wound.Arkhan generates 3 rdp.Are people that are saying wait for the battletome functionally retarded?

>>97583272>Redundant ward save reduction with shrieker.how is it redundant if it stacks? do you play the game so little that you dont know that 5+ wards are a thing?
>OBR Battletome leaksyes, much more interesting than the faction pack.
>>97583272>Restrictive costly recursion. It literally just requires your wizard to not be in combat, and you don't want that guy in combat ever anyway. And 1CP to bring back half a unit is the standard rate across pretty much every army.>Redundant ward save reduction with shrieker. They stack, which is very good. And OBR aren't good enough at magic that you can always make certain you have a shrieker in the right place, but that ability will always happen if you want it to.>Redundant with some units 3 up roll on a charge crit 2 hits battle formation.I don't think every battle formation should work equally well for every unit.>Redundant with some units plus one wound.+1 to wound is always a very good buff to have, plenty of OBR wound on 4s base, and even on those that do wound on 2s, being able to counter -1 to wound is nice.>Arkhan generates 3 rdp.Why the fuck should he be good at generating rdp? He's not a battlefield commander or strategist. I think it's a nice distinction between the martial and magical heroes that the martial ones generate more rdp, gives them value beyond being beatsticks.
>>97583372>Why the fuck should he be good at generating rdpbecause he lost his recursion utility last edition and besides magic, there is nothing much left for him.
>>97583381>besides being the best spellcaster in the faction, there's not much going for himUh huh. I don't think we've seen his actual warscroll yet, but he went up a fuckton of points so I'd be willing to bet on him getting stuff.
After MoN got doomposted so much and then after people got to play with them they turned out to be alright I have an easier time staying reserved at least until release day.
>>97583390More than alright. They’re a damn boss fight with the right list.
>>97583390Did nurgle get doomposted about? It was mainly blightkings, I heard people say the rest was fine and rotswords and sloven knights especially were supposedly great.
>>97583389>best spellcasterbro forgot nagash
>>97583407>implying I want to spend half my points on a single dude just for magicI wonder if Nagash generates rdp at all.And Arkhan looks good. 3 casts with +1, 4 unbinds and he gets to double-tap an attempt every turn, his mount is pretty fighty and his warscroll spell is funny (though it's never been particularly great).
>>97583390Yeah, /tg/ is generally absolutely shite at predicting power levels.
>>97583464It’s almost like many of them don’t actually play.
>>97583327They were in Warhammer Fantasy and sort of s staple of Blanche's art, not sure if they ever had a translation to miniatures though beyond TOW familiars or silver tower little guys
>>97583510Thse are both chaos creatures
What would (you) guys like to see from the new fyreslayer/khazalid range? Bonus points if you can come up with stuff that isn't just a whfb dwarf unit reskinned for aos (though I doubt gw themselves will even try that much)
>>97583474In fairness just the battle traits on their own are a lot to take in at a glance even before digging into enhancements and lores and warscrolls. There are a lot of moving parts that are inherently difficult to get a sense for before seeing them in operation.
Entire OBR book leaked, turns out LRL and Tzneetch were flukes. We are back to shit books boys.Ogre players, abandon hope. If you fought your index was bland they are going to cull it even MORE
>>97583630chariot, mortar and wyvern for fyreslayers
>>97583682Where?
>>97583707OBR discord, AoS Coach discord probably has it as well. Robs ass should finally review it later today (he gets off on doom posting shit, so he will have a field day)
>>97583464Is there any nh list that doesn't spam pyregheists? The more difficult question is anyone actually having fun playing them.>>97583372My dude they're literally taking shit you use to have baseline and putting it behind 3 plus rolls and you're lining up to consoom. One hundred percent flat earther candidates in here.
>>97583059>Each battle round, you use the Immortal Elite ability to select a friendly Ossiarch Bonereapers hero on the battlefield and generate a number of relentless discipline points (RDP) equal to the value on their warscroll. Holy shit, I thought if you didn't want to play Katakros, you could at least bring several mortisans to get 2+2+2 points, but no, you only generate them from ONE model at a time. What a dogshit way to do it
>>97583630If we're realy going wind-dwarfs than Root Kings for Ghyran
>>97583864>Wind-dwarfsHuh? also wouldn't those be kharadron amyway
>>97583899Winds of Magic, not air dwarfs. Chamon Grungi, Aqshy Grimnir, Shyish V-smoehting etc.Helsmiths are already Ghur in denile i guess
>>97583906Oh, like that yeah I see it now. I think the rumourmongers said they'll be quite normal looking dwarfs though, it's not like we'll have fyreslayers be the aqshy guys, then some root kings for valaya/ghyran, etc. Though I think there's been mentions of gholems which has grungni/chamon covered.
>>97583864root kings are nothing, they're a throwaway mention of dispossessed living together with sylvaneth, they're not some kind of distinct culture like fyreslayers and kharadron are
>>97584000>he says as if GW wouldn't be more likely to look for meme charcters online over actually reading their own lore and make somehtng based on that
>>97584015gw is not going to make rootkings because some fag spammed about them on /aosg/
>>97584121In the warcom articles etc about the new ossiarches they've made a fair bit of comments referring to them being something that has long been requested by the community to be fair
>>97584121Tell that to Ogroid Theridons
>>97583630Alright here I'll take a crack at it:>fyreslayers part-Bael-grimnir half burnt -Obligatory runequeen/runedaughter model-Droth chariot-Berzerker replacement (in style of flameseekers)>khazalid part-Generic heavily armoured unit hammers/axes, big round shield, you know the drill-totally not irondrakes, but this time it's medieval bazookas because they're totally different yknow-gholem 3 man elite unit-artillery piece-thane character-cogsmith/runepriest character-avatar of valaya/grungni-alright this is extremely stupid but some kind of wheeled war engine juggernaut like you saw in the background of some old art (picrel), with a build option for valaya, grungni, grimnir and gazul, with a different effect for each. Y'know it's unsurprisingly difficult to come up with generic dwarf units that aren't just whfb units.
>>97584322A tank that acts as a transport would be cool
I think OBR may be enough to have me quit. This confirms both my armies are designed horribly and are mechanically uninspired and unfun to play. I’ve lost any and all hype I had for the new releases. Maybe it’s time for me to step back from AoS, at least until they get their shit together game design wise.
>>97584407AoS has never been good really. The rules have always been shit since first edition you now remember the mustache rules The lore is literal dog shit reads like teen fiction, the art all looks like AI generated shit, like show me any normal picture of Shyish for example. SOME of the models are alright looking I guess but the other half look like a 7year old made them. I dont know why this wasnt canned back in 1st edition. Just play fantasy/40k
>>97584347Guess who's back>>97584407What was your other army, if I may ask?
>>97584407I'll keep playing with the old points and index if I use my ossiarchs (still need to test the necromystic army) but I feel you.At least the old spearheads are still fun to play
>>97584529you need to go back.
>he is still trying to bait
>>97584529>like show me any normal picture of Shyish for example.Sure here's ulfenkarn>moustache rulesI feel like most people don't know this but the joke rules people complain about from early aos were almost exclusively from the compendium rules, for example the moustache one is irrc from the kurt helborg warcsroll. Helborg obviously isn't a character in aos, but he was given a warscroll in the Empire compendium if you wanted to use the aos rule system to play out whfb battles (no idea why you would want to do something like that, but you could). Anyway, these compendiums were essentially equivalent to legends. Don't get me wrong it was a massive failure to "read the room" by gw but these weren't actually meant to be serious rules used in ACTUAL games. The only example of a joke rule I can think of off the top of my head that was in the actual main rules is the skaven screaming bell one that made you instantly win the game if you rolled a 13 out of 2d6, which is soulful as fuck anyway and not really similar to the moustache or horsey sound ones. Anyway yeah you're a secondary so you had no way of knowing this in the first place, but still it's a fun tidbit for the rest of you.

>>97584719Can’t have that because TOW got the Gaze of the Gods table.
>>97583560Nah, the Mordheim fish or 40k servitor things
>>97584805This is somehow sadder than that.
>>97584829Yes. I am not a fan of how over time a lot of classic mechanics are dumbed down.
>>97584776That's a cool sheme
I have a doubles event coming up, bringing 1000pts of Khorne, any ideas on what is good in doubles? Thinking of just throwing a bunch of bloodreavers up the table with crit mortals and letting my nurgle partner sit on circles to score for me. He's bringing a big stack of the new warriors and has a bunch of tricks when he gets charged, the idea is to have him anvil while I hammer.
>>97584529>The rules have always been shit since first edition> the mustache rulesThere are so many more valid examples of bad rules in first edition then the compendium rules, like the classic of the Khorne Banner stacking +1 attack, so your Khorne army was 40+ blood warriors all with 6 attacks base.
>>97584844I feel like if your bro is picking nurgle beinging some mobility is probably good, I guess some juggernauts?>>97584859There's so many legitimate things to complain about with 1e aos I feel like if someone brings up the joke rules it's kind of a clear sign they don't really know what they're talking about
Is there any place where I can find White Dwarf scans? Or better, some wiki so I know what is in each edition?I quite like the special armies of renown they sometime do but it's a pain to find them
Only bummer for me from the OBR battle tome are the mortek guard. Once per abilities dont really fit for core infantry. Most other warscrolls were improved and the battle formations look actually interesting now and are not just "spam this one unit."
>>97584776>its not the herohammer army it used to be, its a proper army that uses unit synergies instead of spamming the most efficient unit and adding 1-2 mortarchsThat does sound like something that'd give us the bitching and whining we've seen here, yes.
>>97584776I dunno losing plus one save, having the amount of times you can use the 5 up ward and movement speed constrained, as well as losing crit hits on the majority of your units is a pretty big blow.Like objectively it's worse, there's no denying that. Nothing obr gained that it could not do before. The harvesters ability is better yeah, but you're spending 200 points to restore that archai vs katakros getting the archai to a 2 up and simultaneously ensuring the army had good coverage with the 5 up ward. So now you're still potentially either spending 500 points to get the 10 rdp plus 200 for the harvester to get mitigation that might help after your morghasts have already fought, rather than mitigation that might stop them from dying in the first place. If you don't spend the points for kat you have 6 or 7 rdp with zandtos which makes it even harder to ensure they have points for the ward when they need it.Death riders are nerfed no matter how you spin it. Their damage is cut more than in half on charge because again no crit weapons and plus one on charge. So you're going to pay a 200 some point tax for a baby sitter hero to almost get to where they were before?Ig is also situationally more useful but it's once per turn army so has diminishing returns.Archers do only a little bit more damage per point than the crawler but degrade much quicker, have a shorter range and no strike last debuff which is arguably more universally useful than the healing debuff.Mortek guard are also objectively worse, again no crit hits and their buff working on themselves is a nothing burger because either you could do 4 up ethereal before or run soggy mortek with kat save.Stalkers lost crit hit and a decent suite of abilities to do more damage to multi models which wasn't something the army usually struggled with.Zandtos strike last is nice but I don't think it's much more valuable than the opg plus one attack.
>>97584886Yeah, especially because most people didn't play with those goofy rules, they used the legends armies, but didn't use the heroes, except my Ogre player who always used Goldtooth and would try to bribe people, but that shit was funny and I wish there was more of that in the game anyway. As a Khorne fan, the Banners and the Bloodthirster having the "do crits on everything within 8 everytime you roll a 6" being so easy to exploit were insane for that edition and nowadays they have toned that stuff down alot. People forget that it was being used as a testing ground not just for AoS, but for 40k as well and the designers didnt know how to balance well for it.
>>97584776They could ALWAYS be returned with the fucking harvester. Why do people keep acting like this was new
Our first named Mortek-chan!
>>97584928>I dunno losing plus one savei already stopped using katakros a long time ago, so im not phased too muchthe mortek guard reactively add 1 to save now which is great. stacks with AOD and 5+ ward, and theres nothing your opponent can do to stop it>having the amount of times you can use the 5 up wardyou can use it in shooting now though. massive improvement>as well as losing crit hits on the majority of your units is a pretty big blowyes those units do less damage now, but those units arent hammer unitsthe hammer units still have crit hits (morghast) and with 2 wizards you can give units crit 5+ hits any time you want because of the unlimited spellstalkers, deathriders, immortis, morteks, etc. are not the dedicated heavy hammer units any more. theyre light hammers, and they have to play together to deal damage>Death riders are nerfed no matter how you spin iti dunno doing 4d3 mortals with 2 units of deathriders and a liege then moving 10" away seems pretty goodyou can buff them with crit 5s and +1 wound and zandtos to turn a reinforced unit into a heavy hammer>Archers do only a little bit more damage per point than the crawlerare you counting the SOG battle formation?41 shots on 2+/3+/1 for only 280pcan reduce enemy save with drain vitality firstcan double tap with the liege mortekcan triple tap with covering firethey seem really good to me>Mortek guard are also objectively worseas a hammer, yesbut as a support unit/screen, theyre much betterthey actually take buffs really well too. if you give them every offensive buff they are a scary hammer
>>97584776The best play is still going to be Katakros, reinforced archai with all the buffs, smash forward and try to kill as much as possible. This lazy boring play will be enough to get you two out of five games at a tournament. Maybe even three with luck.Option two is the mass shooting list. I mean it's strong, but if the enemy is fast and has a single throw away screen to tank the return fire before they smash into you, you are fucked. The entire synergy relies on a single 5 wound hero who has to be in combat to make the shooters fire again in Close Combat. He is laughably easy to kill. Then if he is dead you lost the extra shooting with buffs (and they are in your castle, you don't have shoot in combat, and you can't retreat and shoot.
>>97584949it was possible, but it was too difficult to pull it offits guaranteed the first time, and much easier to build it back up now especially with the new triaxes killing screens from range
>>97584949I don't think people actually play the game because there's so much shit taken away it's kinda hard not to notice it. They made anti charge an enhancement and there's no bonus to charge anymore.
>>97584968I don't know shit about reapers, are they constructed by taking one soul and putting it in a new bonebody, or are they like a mix of souls?
>>97584970If you do x, with y and z all based on dicey rolls, then you can maybe do the things you were able to do before by normal. What the fuck is wrong with you.Fuck makes me want to switch my career to sales.
>>97584975>The best play is still going to be Katakros, reinforced archai with all the buffs, smash forward and try to kill as much as possiblethats far from the best playspending 7 rdp to double tap archai is strictly worse than just bringing more archaii agree that the lieve mortek is hard to use, keeping 20 triaxes wholly within 12" after charging is toughrequires some unorthodox thinkingconsider him and the triaxes as a single unit moving up the board together and charging into combatits hard to be aggressive with that unit because it only moves 4" but its a really good counter-punch unit that you keep behind the frontline and unleash hell when the enemy finishes their charge into your cohort or stalker screenalso cohorts are insanely bustedmove 7" in deploymentmove 7 + 3 (rdp) + 6 (run) in movementthen move 3 in the enemy hero phase to get in combatthe enemy unit is now in combat and cant move, shoot, or chargetheyll kill the cohort but they wont go anywhere else that turn. insane
>>97584844If you can get him in there, Karanak and 5 flesh hounds are great at smaller games for being able to warp onto objectives later in the game to getting secondary's.
>>97584984usually it is a mix of several different souls, but sometimes a singular soul is good enough to be just slightly modified (if at all) before being put in to the new bone golem body.
>>97584996Faction pack was an abnormality though. Guess OBR is too complicated for you and you should better play some StD or destruction armies if you just want to crash with hammer units into the enemy.
>>97584984They're spiritually Frankenstein's monster. Their mortisans extract souls, cut them apart, and stitch choice pieces together. A very tiny number of of individuals (e.g. Katakros, Zandtos, perhaps a handful others) are spared from this and get a new body with a minimum of changes wrought on their soul.
>>97584996>If you do x, with y and z all based on dicey rollswhat dice rolls are you talking about? the spells? yeah obviously spells arent reliablegreat insight there you fuckwitmost armies dont even get the OPTION to cast a crit 2 hit spell, much less an unlimited spell that also gives that unit crit 5s
Just a reminder for the Britbros.Hachette will be doing their Spearhead magazine soon, so bargain plastic will be in your local newsagents if you're planning on any of the minis contained in spearheads this year.Usual SOP with the first few too.inb4 >buy an ad
>>97584984Mortek are like 20 people cut into pieces with best parts of them stitched back up into 1. Katakros or Zandtos are mostly 1 guy with minor eidts cut out or grfted onto them.Mortek have no recolection of whothey were, Katakros knows
>>97585049You do realize they just shift the numbers around right between armies? It's not that the 3 inch extra movement rdl is making you 3 inches faster than all other armies, it's making your 4 inch guys move 7 which is only just slightly faster than most elf armies, but it's an opportunity cost because you consume a resource to do it. You having access to a crit hit 5 spells is not the same as something like slaves to darkness getting the spell because the math would make crit hits significantly better for their units because they're hitting on 3s, wounding on 3s for chaos warriors while your mortek have no rend and wound on a 4. That's why I'm comparing the book to the faction pack because it's the best reference point. If you're trying to say the faction pack was cracked or unreasonable in power then that's a whole crock of shitThere are things obr gives up to do the things it can do. It doesn't have mobility tricks or baked in recursion or high unit counts. I enjoy complex armies and this book isn't anywhere close to it, nor are most 4e tomes.
How often does the AoS rpg get releases? Fantasy is getting another rpg book based on Dark Elves this time. It seems like the TOW rpg failed relative to the Fantasy rpg because they just keep making Fantasy RPG books but they haven’t come out with a new TOW book in a while.
>>97585261by the time they finish writing a supplement for soulbound half of the contents have been squatted
>>97585261I've never met an aos player who gives a fuck about the rpg honestly, myself included. I can't imagine it's a hot priority. Also seems like a weird thing to make it based around a very specific concept like soulbonding. I mean I don't know the first thing about running rpg's but that seems like the kind of thing you want to leave open.
>>97585261Compared to WFRP or 40k RPG systems, it's much rarer.last months, they were hiring more writers, so if you want to join the exciting world of RPG writing, you might as well give it a go if they are still hiring.
>>97585294An RPG is a secondary medium. Fantasy has always been more widely popular as a setting than AoS. I would imagine it's just business sense. Making AoS books would be a wasted effort when you can make another Fantasy book and have it sell much better. Same reason they probably aren't expanding the TOW rpg. Turns out people don't give a fuck about the time period TOW is set in and just want " Fantasy " as a setting.
>>97585316TOWRPG problams is that it's just WFRP but less crunchy and set in a different time period, you're doing the same type of stories in TOWRPG as you are in WFRP. At least Soulbound is pretty out there and gonzo in what you do, so it's the closest comparable system in Exalted
>>97585294they had to include a gimmick like that because the game had to include stormcasts and had to make use of the higher fantasy and larger than life stuff of the mortal realms, so the other player characters had to he brought to similar semidivine near-immortal statusbut the fantasy and 40k rpg shine where they are allowed to detail parts of the setting that have only been vaguely addressed, meanwhile aos has much much less that gets addressed even in vague terms so it has to be completely made up, and it's also a setting in progress whose releases and developments will always trump whatever a rpg might try to establish on its own
>>97585294i've read through it, it looks fun, but getting 5 or 6 people together to play it who dont just go "hey can we just play dnd instead i already know the rules for that" is fucking impossiblethat said, the aos rpg does serve as a decent vehicle for additional lore and maps that the main game doesnt take the time to flesh out, at least in so much as the main game doesnt render them obsolete when they completely redesign the fluff and armies every 3 years
>>97585297How much do they even pay? I’ve had a couple ideas for an Aos rpg but it’s kinda separate from the whole soul bound thing. Then again the chaos book looked like it was separating from that idea too.

>>97585420To be fair tiger men do read as something creatively bankrupt. Even for Cathay shit.
>>97585420Tigermen have been part of the setting for twenty years, they even had art in WFRP2e so they arn't a new concept
>>97585424You'll eat your words when they reveal the the Tigermen ride elephants. But in reality, I feel like Tigermen were brought into TWW specifically because they are not going to be expanding or exploring Ind (thank goodness).
>>97585420the only thing that couldn't be added to the old world were sigmarines as the posterboys front and center
>>97585466I honestly think the specific implementation of Cathay and these guys is a massive betrayal of any kind of ‘lore’ appeal to The Old World. Cathay as written is not a WHFB faction. They would unironically fit better in AoS.
>he's STILL trying
>>97585467Some rumour say they are going to expand Ind, but this is still years away
>>97585467>expanding or exploring indWith how tg reacted to cathay I can't imagine the shitshow that would follow ind as a faction.I had a look on the total war reddit the other day to see what all the tigermen stuff was all about, and it was kind of hilarious to see how many people wanted ind, or hell even some people that were kind of ...mad that they didn't make ind a faction?I know they basically invented cathay from the ground up, but that seemed like a rather unique case because they used all the actual factions in the previous games and you can't very well launch your game with 4 flavours of daemon. But now it's given these people the idea that gw should take some random place with two throwaway lines and turn it into a whole faction. Khuresh is even worse in this regard. Turns out when you combine warhammer tism and ""strategy"" vidya tism you get some real peculiar fellows.>>97585474People say this but I've never found cathay to be very aos-like, except in maybe some art of floating landmasses and thd like. They'd fit whfb pretty well if they just upped the tropes a little, like add some mega scheming eunuchs or whatever the fuck.
>>97585521Yeah nigger but they didn’t add in any scheming eunuchs.
>>97585521>Khuresh is even worse in this regardkuresh has a solid aesthetic already laid out in front of itbut the point is moot because all these theoretical factions that exist exclusively as names on a map are way too niche to warrant being turned into full model ranges rather than a one off mercenary unit at most
>>97585521>With how tg reacted to cathay I can't imagine the shitshow that would follow ind as a factionI was lukewarm on Cathay as a concept but reading the books and giving it time has warmed me up to them in Fantasy. I still think they are a bit too clean (but not the completely clean caricature some people seem to think they are, a few gaps in the propaganda in the books) lore wise, but aesthetically and tonally they fit in. As you said, they need a bit more leaning into some darker aspects, but I think that's a given over time.
>>97585521>'ve never found cathay to be very aos-likeagreed, but thats because I dont find cathay to be very warhammer like in general.
>>97585535>kuresh has a solid aesthetic already laid out in front of itSure, but one invented by a group of artists based on1). Kuresh being where SEA is in our world2). One (1) throwaway sentence about there being nagas thereDon't get me wrong it's a cool fan project but the people acting like it's not a niche within a niche kind of confuse me. Like you say, it's something more fit for a mercenary unit than a full range. In a way kind of similar to ind and its tigermen actually.
>>97585579there's the third point being the unpublished fluff draft of oldhammer snakemen, but yeah
>>97585466WFRP 2nd edition wasn't made by GW.
>>97585659yes it was anon, it was made by Black Industries so the same part of GW that made Black Library books
Are they so far the only end times models that have been refreshed? I think skarr was squatted.Reason I'm asking is because people on tga seem to be talking about a rumoured refresh for nagash of all models apparently.
Its always funny seeing how westerners want to see India depicted in fiction ( well, warhammer I guess) and how the east in general assimilates Indian (fiction) into their views. Its always lame too.
>>97585579Khuresh was fully mapped in Total War since launch, and CA has stubbornly refused to place any known factions there for four years, having multiple opportunities. They're holding the spot for something that's coming.Have a look at this loading screen: it mentions "My sister at the great Bastion" (already in the game), the Tigermen of Ind (confirmed to be in development), the Monkey King and Li Dao (most people expect them to be released as well since there are references to them everywhere) and finally the Naggas (and not Nagas) in Khuresh.Everyone has been waiting for a long time for Creative Assembly to just say "the Snakemen are not coming" and just populate the peninsula with greenskins or beastmen or something, but they aren't doing it, so the opportunity remains (stubbornly) on the table....and as we know, if it comes to Total War, it's been designed by GW.
>>97585699You misunderstood me. I am Canadian. I have Ind fatigue irl. I don't want them in Fantasy or AoS or in Canada at all.
>>97585691probably, yeah. I honestly think they were refreshed less because of their end times status and more just because they wanted to have a cohesive aesthetic for nurgle in general for aos. >talking about a rumoured refresh for nagash of all models apparently.Only thing I can see ( and want to see) is the fucking mortis engine going away because its so fucking stupid and awful to paint with.

I really dislike 'Eavy Metal these days.Their style doesn't suit modern overly detailed miniatures.Mike McVey was an old 'Eavy metal painter and he did an interview on Youtube: he said he and the others invented a special painting style that was extra bright and focused on edge highlights so that things would appear nicer on a printed magazine or in a diorama, they always needed to make things brighter and more saturated because he said on paper things looked darker and duller....but today? On a 4k screen? With Bright LED lights pointed directly at the model from all angles, high definition cameras and white backgrounds? The style doesn't work as it used to, the world around it changed. They need to learn to not highlight details, and I suspect they never will, because nowadays they think it's a matter of "their craft" or "their brand" and visibility/readability is a secondary concern.

>>97585884The Eavy Metal style doesn't help but a lot of sculpts nowadays are just bad. They themselves are overly busy and often lack basic design elements like focal points. Probably because GW hires cheap designers because talent is too expensive. Look at GW releases from any system in the past few years. Almost all of them are overly busy messy chaotic crap. The tech has improved for minis while the talent has evaporated (in GW at least)

>>97585895not really, I'm not very fond of "blanchitsu" either because it feels confusing to me - on the other hand I think limiting the color palette would go a long way.Look at the picture in the op - how many fucking colors do we need for the bark of a tree?Ok maybe the bark is brown. Maybe it's somewhat green. Maybe it's white like a birch. Maybe a bit darker, a grey....somebody at 'Eavy Metal thought "how about it's all of them???"And the readability suffers....and the belly of the worms is off-white (but not like the birch! A different kind of off-white! And of course not the same off-white as the flower petals that go from white to pink) and every worm is blue and black and white and yellow and of course has a reddish mouth. If it was me, every worm would be the same color. One color, and one highlight. Maybe one extra tint for the eyes, tops, but they're not the stars of the show, they're detail, they're extra. They shouldn't draw attention.

Since obr are now on their third spearhead, you guys think they'll give ogres a new one? Because they'll be refreshing basically the entire range, but they usually don't like putting new stuff in a spearhead right away (look at gitmob and deathrattle for example). You think they'll do something like helsmiths again, an army set that's just a spearhead + tome? For CoS they're getting their own special launch spearhead, do we know if those whill be separate or is this supposed to be some sort of proper vs launch box like skaventide?
>>97589642they might have a spearhead of the stuff they aren't updating something uncomfortable to buy as a repeated purchase to build an army but also potentially thematic in itself

man, i hope the rumor of warcry and underworlds turning in to one game is true.
This month's WD confirms that some of the first generation of Stormcast were created from soul fragments of heroes from the World That Was.Celestial Prime is said to have been a great defender during the End Times. It's implied that he is Karl Franz.
>>97589678This box is really stupid but also kind of kino.Reminds me of the start collecting that was just a frosthorn surrounded by 4 mournfang. My dream is to find one of those fuckers in a back alley shop somewhere.>>97589708Yeah, but will it be a spearhead of old models or an army set spearhead with new ones? I lean towards the latter.
>>97589891Spoilers: In a twist of events, it is revealed that the soul of Celestian Prime is not Carlos Francisco's, but Vlad von Carstein's.
>>97589891I hope it's valten and not karlkarl's only value as a character is being a normal human
>>97589938I’d prefer it being valten just because he’s a cooler character than Karl. Even if his endtimes implementation was kinda weak.
What is the size of the new Blightkings compared to the old kit? Do they completely size mog them? Does a good comparison pic exist?
>>97590004old ones are smaller mostly due to the new antlers. they could still be decent rotswords if the basesize of 32mm fits the old models, but i dont know.
>>97590033Daaamn. They're significantly more huge. Its like GW downgraded all my elites into regular infantry.
Ah yes, I'm certainly interesting in buying *placeholder image* for $53. Sasuga James-sama!
>>97589891>>97589938>ValtenHow does that work when Sigmar is alive, well, and fully divine? That would essentially mean that he reforged his own reincarnation into a Stormcast, implying that his own soul inhabits the CPrime. >>97590113>They've got a few like that on the websiteInsane since the new website has been up and running for a couple years now. You'd they'd prioritize getting pictures of the products up before listing anything for sale.
>>97590088valten was heralded as the reincarnation of sigmar, but he wasn't, that was the grimdark twist of his character and the source of one of the plotlines that were left open after storm of chaos, had that timeline not been walked back oneven in the end times valten had practically nothing to do with sigmar as far as I remember, they get rid of him before sigmar zaps into karl franz
>>97590108i wanted to be nice to the underworld players and not say "warcry is the only AoS side game worth supporting"
How many blightkings is good for a 2000pt army anyway? Since all my Blightkings got downgraded to 32mm rotswords, how many fucking blightkings should someone need to buy?
>>9759015410, at most. They can actually do okay as a brick of 10 with Gutrot Spume as a reserve flank unit.
>>97589891>This month's WD confirms that some of the first generation of Stormcast were created from soul fragments of heroes from the World That Was.Yeah we've known that since AoS was introduced thanks to the Anvils of Heldenhammer.
>>97590185Ya, and we've known that Balthas Arum is Balthasar Gelt ever since he met Mannfred. This isn't news at all.

>>97590128I don't know if it's a problem of them simply not having the pics or if it's just technical issues. Then again they never even bothered to change dark elves and other hangers on to round bases on the webstore.>>97590224Yeah if they redid the blightkings to fit with the new aesthetic better I can see them slowly refreshing the other heroes over the years.
>>97590273It’s an issue with a number of their shit. Namely it’s of old stuff, happens to me with some HH and 40k stuff when I try to preview it.
>>97590224I'm no expert at competitive AoS in 4e, but having read the Maggotkin tome I can easily see a brick of 20 rotswords or 2x10 in any list. They're that good in their own niche and have some phenomenal buff support.Just keep in mind they're on 32mms like chaos warriors, not 40mms like blight kings.
>>97590042Since blightkings suck as a unit I would just pick up 1 box and use the new models as heroes. Lord of blights, lord of plagues, etc
Did we ever work out if blight tenplars are best proxied for rotswords or blightkings, y'know size wise.
>>97590454Blightkings or heroes. Templars are huge
>>97590454Blightkings for sure. They're not much shorter than the daemon prince in the same box.
>>97590224Rotswords are currently one of the most expensive nurgle units, simply because everything else is way too damn cheap. Pox wretches, pestigors, plaguebears, all are gonna go up in cost no doubt about it. Its why most people don't run many rotswords now. But it will change.Anyhoo, you can run either one reinforced brick of 20 rotswords, or supplement that with a second unit of 10-20 rotswords.
>>97590539to be honest i wish they would make the cheap stuff just a bit worse so it can stay cheap. one of the things i hated about the index, and the general trajectory nurgles been on for a while, is that everything is just soooooo fucking expensive that it feels like you get 15 models on the table and call it an army. this has been a trend across the game, armies getting smaller, but nurgle was hit especially hard in some ways. at the start of the edition pusgoyle blightlords were more expensive point per model than varanguard, more expensive than most foot heroes and some cavalry heroes. beast of nurgle cost as much as most heroes per model, and the army almost always demanded a 500+ pt greater daemon or glottkin because so much of the armies rules and function are tied to them.im not asking for hordes and hordes of feckless chaff units, we dont need to be goblin levels of incompetent, but the army has gone from feeling like an army to feeling like a small skirmish force and a boss monster.
>>97590681I kinda liked the elite feeling of previous blightking focused nurgle armies, which is why I think it's a shame blightkings are borderline useless. Why the hell do marked AoS chaos warriors feel compelled to take their armor off when they reach chosen/champion level? Nurgle does it, Slaanesh does it, Khorne does itTzeentch is the only exception because they still have no fucking chosen or knight equivalents that aren't God damn birds.

Oh good somebody can answer my STORMCAST LORE questions because I've been reading the AoS starter book from 20151 - What's the deal with the "Lions of Sigmar"? The book basically says "nobody knows what their deal is"2 - Korghos Khul's dog gets a name (Grizzlemaw), and even his Khorgorath gets a name (Skuldrak), but Vandus's Dracoth has no name? What is this bullshit, does the poor beast ever get a name later on?3 - I am oddly fond of a Prosecutor in the book that randomly gets a special profile (+1 wounds) and a name ("Anactos"). He leads the assault in the battle "The Sky Darkens" and he's basically THE guy that opens the portal where the Stormcast launch their first offense in Aqshy, he is the man who single-handedly starts the Age of Sigmar proper. Any news on him? Since Ionus and Vandus get an "epilogue", maybe he's somewhere as well?

A Nurgle follower should not follow the same path as a Slaaneshi or Khorne devotee. It makes all the chaos armies seem like a different coat of paint. Not every army needs a chaff unit of 20, a mid-tier armored 10 man unit, and a unit of 5 each for elites and cavalry. "chosen" has become a genericazation.Like Kleenex or Band aid or xerox being used for the same product despite it being a brand specific name.Nurgle, khorne, and slaanesh all have their chosen. but blightkings had more identity because they were the only armored mortal infantry.
