It's ridiculously easy; slather it on, paint over it with Aggrelian Earth, throw a brown wash over it, drybrush with your choice of shades. It's easy to moderate how much texture you want, and it's a nice base to add flock or tufts.Everything looks bad when you hold it up to your face close enough to see every errant brush stroke and imperfect blend. Accept that (You) know every single thing that didn't turn out as well as you would like with your models, but nobody else does, and that painting is a craft that has no ceiling. There is no secret, you paint more and get better as long as you are putting in earnest effort to improve with every model. It's easy to get to a certain level with painting and then just repeat without any attempts to improve.

Would a stealth pattern on the new stealth suits look good? I really do not like how little armour they actually have, it's like almost 70% black undersuit/mechanics rather than coloured armour. Very little space to actually do patterns and designs vs the egg suits of yonder years. Honestly even though the new suits have grown on me, they're still seem too lacking in armour. Blue with yellow/gold trim is a classic protag color scheme. Whats interesting is in SM2, which a lot of non-hobbyists play and have had as their introduction to 40k, you can customize your appearance and you virtually never see people dress themselves as Ultras. Besides, if you're going to pick one of them to be your poster boys, Ultras make sense. Their Big Special Boy Trait is being competent, and they don't really have a dark side.If 11th edition turns out to be Marines vs Orks in the edition launch box, I would like to see Crimson Fists.

Lately I came across two different sellers who are the ideal for what I look for - They aren't an online front for an actual hobby shop, their eBay name tends to be something personal or a generic ebay seller name like "Katie's Kool Stuff". The pictures are bad (and don't have an inventory tag in them), the descriptions are either not much or just the copy from the back of the box, so the person selling them doesn't have a targeted interest in competing with 40k collector listings. Just this week I also stumbled across a seller with a bunch of lots of random metal minis from various games all mixed together, usually about a dozen models for $15-$20. They've been around for a while because there was some nice Rogue Trader era stuff in them, along with a portion of Necromunda and 2nd ed 40k. I always keep an eye on auctions, you never know which ones are gaining a lot of attention and which ones are just getting passed by.Recently I sniped a 2nd edition era Chaplain (with one of the more desirable sculpts imo) from an auction for $20 and a 5th edition core rulebook in really nice condition for $18, which at that price works for me just to have as a coffee table book and browse the art & photos.
