>>97670418>>97670405imo, it seems like most factions have at least 4 distinct sub themes that you can priorities outside of their nominal combined arms.Dwarves:>Enginner>Runeshit>heavy armor>slayersSkaven:>stink>ninjas>steampunk>MutantsEmpire:>Gunz>Knights>Fanatics>WizardsGreenskins>night goblins>savage orcs>monsters>spiders
>>97672145He literally revealed himself a minute after the manlet meme was posted dummy.
>>97672138Hold up, yeah you're right. I think it's only missing pikes as an option since you can just have heavily armored cavalrymen with bows.
>>97672151Well, but greenskins can also do cav, warmachines, black orc, and trolls. And that's if you include squig focused armies in the cav, monster, or night goblin lists and not a separate thing.
>>97672174Not even posted by the same people, retard
>>97672151You're really trying to force a square peg in a round hole by splitting stuff or counting a character archetype a themeSome armies have more themes, some armies have less
>>97672145Literally just typing in "warhammer fantasy huge battle" into google gives you lots of pictures like this he could have used as an example if he was being genuine. But he wasn't. His whole point was to post historical off topic shit. He's a troll and you're either retarded or samefagging.
>>97672145>>97672222Grab a stool so you can reach the x in the top right to close the tab, you're in the wrong place midget man
>>97672181well yah, but if you go into every subtype and unit most factions can make way more than 4. I am talking about broad themes kind of in line with Army compositions instead of grand army. You could, outside of composition restrictions, make an entire Empire army out of Missile cavalry, but I wouldnt exactly call that a particular theme of the empire.Though I agree greenskins are particularly large. I think thats because they are the default army for any non expicitly chaos and non explicitly undead monster to go into (eg trolls, giants, etc). If we just limit it to greenskin's and larger themes, I think they fall more or less in line.>grand army>comp savage orc>comp night goblin>comp spinder rider>comp monster mash
>>97672252>everyone is my boogieman
>>97672243I mean, I said the things that tend to follow composition lists. at least in old world, not sure about older WFB editions. Like in reference to percentage of core unit requirements and shit.

I am interested in seeing your guys' custom stuff, especially customized characters, battle standards, unit fillers, and baggage trains. It's always fun and good for inspiration!
>>97672252Nope, I just didn't think of doing that. I used a pic I had already saved and on hand. >>97672257Is this bait? This pic is from an Oathmark event and it is visibly not Warhammer
>>97672421That's simply not how reporting works, this isn't reddit. Someone doesn't get banned just cause you keep bugging the jannies, they have to have actually broken a rule. Have you even read the rules?
>>97672413One off of New England. Sometimes go off island but I would think its a pain to bring these guys off and see if I can schedule other shit around an event, but maybe some day.
>>97672385To be fair, Warhammer is not a system for large engagements. The granularity that makes it fun pretty much limits it to skirmishes of not even two-hundred figures on the table. This is fine, as it shouldn't try to be something Warmaster was designed for.
>>97672432Which he has, multiple times. He keeps posting non Warhammer fantasy models and reference by non Warhammer fantasy games. It’s off topic spam at this point and bannable. There’s a category for reporting off topic for this very reason.

>>97672481I dont have too much of a frame of reference for how it feels to not live on an island, but I did go to the mainland during college. Its not that different really, its just harder to get more niche things at a moments notice like you can at a walmart or something on the mainland. We have all the basic stuff everyone has like groceries or craft items, but if you want a box of minis, you got to ship it from amazon or something.>Fav armyprobably no suprise, empire. I really like mostly down to earth stuff but with just a touch of the fantastical. So its a great fit. Someone at Local game night said they might run a WFRPG session at some point, would be really into trying that.
>>97672614First of, the model itself is kinda fleshy. And it's just layers of dark blue, blue and light blue that you paint by making small lines
>>97672595>I posted my freshly painted tzeentch spawns and nobody gave a fuckIt's genuinely sad that modelposts get ignored so often yet a spergout about some poopdickschizo will go on for 100 or more posts. Your guys look great btw, I love that vibrant blue.

>>97672595I feel ya anon, I post models quite often and they're generally fresh rather than spam (I love you Orc anon, but my god please stop posting the same photo of that command squad), and there's sweet fuck all reaction. >>97672671post your model, kind anon. I also played a battle 2 weeks ago, and will probably play another one next week, if my friends dare to move their asses to my house
>>97672662LMAO does he really? Holy shit kek
>>97672320>baggage trainIve been meaning to find a good set for this. Like, good camp followers. I like the guys for the empire cannon set, but not paying 40 bucks or something for 6 guys. Also really liked the look of the camp followers for the Warlords of Erehwen set.HOwever, I probably will bite the bullet on the empire cannon for the cannons themselves eventually cause I always did like how the great cannon looked. In fact, maybe I could convert the second cannon into a wagoon?
>>97672691Why are the balls so good damn small compared to the barrel ?
I had a friend by the house today and he brought his Orcs to play against my Charcian Host. I had some awful dice luck and was eventually drowned in the green tide but it was still a good time
>>97672715delightful, I like those elven obelisks
>>97672683heres a question, do you have recs for go to beginner terrain? Like I said above, just finished my first set of minis, but had to use household items for terrain in my first game with them. And candels and books just arent that apealing or imagination setting. I assume the basics are like 1 house 2 hills and 2 things that represent rough terrain?
>>97672703Wasn't that common in 15th/16th/ centiry cannons so they could add wadding and powder to the barrel
>>97672715These cgi battlemats have forever ruined wargaming table tops
>>97672722We have been using them to mark the strategic locations from the matched play book. I think they look a lot nicer then those circle cut markers you see in 40k>>97672743Fair, I got them for cheap but I keep thinking about trying to track down an old realm of battle board or something.
>>97672743What's the price difference between one of these neoprene mats and an older flok mat?
>>97672734The house isn't even mandatory. 2 hills, 2-3 forests and some terrains scattered around is a good base. Forests are easy to do since trees are cheap and just need to be on a big forest base. So yeah, get a mat, put stuff under it for hills and get some trees. As for scatter terrains, choose what kind of battlefields you want, and see what 3d printers can get you. I got this nice elven statue for 8€
>>97672178I wish witches elves were as wild as those guys. ...
>>97672595I might not give a (you) to models all the time but that doesn't mean we don't appreciate it, anon.
>>97672767Not sure, but making your own flocked mat is very easy. The craft part about these neoprene mats is that they are usually quite pricey
>>97672580Not you, the schizo
>>97672035I'll have to dig out photos from a hard drive, but I got to participate at a games workshop mega battle event for Storm of Chaos (yes, I am old). 8 vs. 8, 2,500 point armies. 4 huge 8x4' tables that you could play across. I was running Empire fluffed as Tilea since DoW just wasn't practical. It took several hours to play, had a bunch of official refs, and we took multiple breaks. It was so much goddamn fun though.
>>97672595I really like how you did their teeth, anon. The brown -> lines of progressively lighter shades of bone is a good technique, I like using it a lot.

>>97674006Maybe a stupid question, but at least it is related to TOW:If a model has multiple shots (2), does he roll them in one batch, with all shots getting a -1 to hit, or is the first shot rolled without this modifier? I had used the latter way previously, but it felt rather clunky. Now that I've actually read the rule closer, I think the former interpretation is correct.
>>97674627How the fuck did you ever get to the latter? It's always been all one batch with the -1 modifier.
>>97674627No, all shots suffer the -1 for multiple shots no matter how many shots are fired and and regardless of which shot in the sequence it is.
>>97674627Brother i play beastmen i dont know what the fuck a ranged attack is.But reading the rules I would say roll both at -1

>>97674906Think I'm going to have to crack open the lighbox I got for Christmas, because I cannot take a good photo at the moment
I think the ungor archers are one of my favorite ranged unit of the game. They're not really good at it but instead of having the whole unit looking like they're firing, you can model them as reloading, reaching for an arrow, aiming and firing. They're quite dynamic
>>97672734Here's a cheap, quick and dirty hedge instruction.Ice-lolly sticks can be good for making into ramshackle hovels and should be available for dirt cheap from any arts and crafts store. Also, mandatory pet store fishtank section.

>>97675429Here. Also just one unified 'wash' of paint but a drybrush over it adds a highlight, the single wash style only gives you lowlights and a midtone on most models that dont have large smooth armour sections and even then those risk tea staining instead. Its maybe 10 minutes extra work with one colour and makes all the difference. A dab of moot green or gaus blaster mixed in grey seer would make all the difference.

Fbigo- still able to charge though so we good. - in my opponents shooting phase he blasts the stormvermin again- causing another panic- they fail their reroll and run pissing and screaming off the board.Turn 2 skaven begins and I find myself with 877 points less.Engineer Fizzclick and the WLC carried and thanks to the expert bullshittety of 5 gutter runners I was able to redirect dual hand weapon frenzied warriors for like 5 rounds.Somehow - this was all Fizzclicks plan I guess.. In the final turn the WLC and Skritt were able to knock both tzeentch power battery to below half- and an emergency charge by the gutter into the frenzied fellows - ensured they fled.- saving the remaining jezzails hiding behind their pavises. What a debut .I guess I got spooked out by fellblade- I should have held longer.Usually do felblade warlord with 24 clanrats.

>>97675960It was a 6th edition event where narratively speaking it took place on Albion that, despite the whining of Teaboo's, is a wildland of swamps and bogs sparsely populated by pictish druids but with some kind of big magical maguffin, i think maybe some big engine of the old ones the locals thought of as like a stone henge deal. You signed up at your local store to play for good or evil. Good players got a single mini of a human/high elf looking guy in a waistcloth and little else and Evil players got the pictured above dark emissary. With another swamp monster model for sale. The idea was playing games at your local GW, as was the style at the time, and all the good and evil wins were calculated and decided who could use the swamp monster and eventually who won the event and decided the narratives canon conclusion.

>>97676505depends if they follow the trpg lore or not where they were norscan valkyries that abandoned their menfolk in a failing lustrian colony and found an abandoned lizardmen city on an island in the amazon river where they adopted the culture and tech/magic over time and even used the skink spawning pools to procreate new generations. Keep the dinosaurs around and have waifs for skinks, brick shithouses for saurus warriors and rework jaguar warriors into some kind of werepanther for the kroxigors. Maybe keep the old resin slaann as their leader who taught them how to use this stuff.
>>97676438The one model thing really isn’t a hard and fast rule. Look at a bunch of goblin units, look at dryads etc.
>>97676413Neat. Wonder what their skill line up will be with two different blitzer types.
>>97676467>but who replaces skaven?They don't exist though???

>>97676522having both the old lore and the newer version would be the best>the renegade old one rigg makes the race of amazons>for whatever reason by the time the norscans reach lustria, they're near extinct>the valkyries happen on them and their temples complex and join themso you can have all kinds of phenotypes
Why does Cathay know High Magic?
>>97676603because they're GW new obsession until they fail to sell, only to be put on the "3rd wave room" like the Votann
>>97676603Because the Celestial Emperor studied it before the Winds were split and taught his children who in turn have taught others.
>>97676603cos dragons
>>97676603It’s actually because of that compass shit the Emperor has that’s able to slow down the winds. Which opens up the possibility of them losing the ability to cast high magic if the compass is destroyed or lost
>>97676603the chinese dragon studied how the old ones did their magic and mastered halves of it together with his alien waifuthen he built a magical compass that slows the winds so that humans can learn that shit too
RPG question (4e). One player is a freelance human knight and he spoke to me after a session to complain he wasn't getting to use his mount as much as he had hoped for, in combat or for anything else. Now granted, they have been doing a lot in Nuln so far and haven't really left the city for any extended period of time. I told him I'd think about a solution this week and try to come up with something and he agreed to wait.Realistically, how much of this is on me and how much is on him (to fix this issue)? He did randomly get this career, and everyone knew before we started that the campaign was going to at least start in Nuln for sure.
>>97676805Just have a tourney set-up by the Countess to show off her new cousin/champion's skill. Also why has he not used his horse to move around town? He doesn't want to pay stable fees or is it because the other PCs does not have horses?my PCs have horses, and those are for long distance travel only.I don't think it is on you, it just happened that way, when you leave Nuln, just have rnadom horses related things to do, like chaising bandit, protecting coaches, or even have a random noble show up, give a few comments and it breaks into a race which gets ambushed by Beastmen (a good intro for that Carrion Call scenario btw, worked great with my PCs)
>>97676854He used it once to rush a message across town, and has been paying stable fees and roleplaying pretty well as loving his horse and being involved in daily grooming and such. But yeah, none of the others have a horse. I'll consider the tournament idea as a bit of side content for appeasement in the short-term but also tell him that once they hit the road he will shine a lot more so just have a little patience. Thanks.
>>97676805It's difficult to have a horse do anything in a town other than cost $. You could use it to make some side money hauling, but what knight is going to reduce a warhorse to common labor? I'm not even a hist buff like some of my friends and I'd probably audibly "what the fuck?" at the table.Maybe stand on it to boost a party member to a window? You're going to have to get really creative to have a horse serve a purpose in a populated city especially because it will be recognizable if used for an action scene But it isn't really going to do anything until y'all leave the city. If your campaign is going to be there for awhile, that does suck because no one wants is >50% of their character useless for multiple sessions. That said, I don't know how progression works for them but it might be worthwhile letting them train in downtime for a little bit of advancement ahead of the party so they feel like they are at least accomplishing something. You can rubber band it back until the party catches up then proceed normally once out of the city.
>>97675972It was the best of times. That and 3rd War of Armageddon in back to back summers before the internet wrecked it too much and before GW decided to start doing massive 'end of the world' events and realised what a corner they'd wrote themselves into.
>>97672558I post my models regularly here but only when I have something new, I have other game systems so don’t do this all the time

How do frost grave models compare to fantasy ones
>>97677127The frostgrave minis are noticeably larger but it's not an insane difference.
>>97676930Bit before my time i think. My first event was the 13th black crusade for 40k and boy codex eye of terror had me eating good as a death guard enjoyer.
>>97677127The issue with frostgrave (and oathmark) is that they are very generic and have none of the warhammer flair
>>97677171I don’t think that matters when Cathay is the flagship face of tow now. I plan on kitbashing anyways.
>>97677177How is it the flagship when it's not even rumored to be in the next starter?
>>97677280He's confusing the push a new faction gets with being the face of a system. Like saying Tau were the face of 40k in 4th edition
>>97676274Well good luck round 2 man. Bloody Knights being lucky shits. Wish mine smashed aside entire units themselves, bad to use khorne chosen knights for anything.

Is Cathay a good second faction for someone who already plays Empire? How different/similar are they?
>>97677701too similar
>>97677701They're Empire, but better
>>97677701Too similar in gameplay and painting more of the same material wise.Friend have you heard the good word about Morghur?
>>97677757>another BeastbroWhat the FUCK is going on?
>>97677770It's been explained several times before. The army is currently very strong, arguably overpowered. Of course people will flock to it.
>>97677789I really hope this isn't actually why
>>97677798Would you prefer the answer that paints these beastmen players as perverts who are sexually aroused by the concept of scatological goat-men rapists?
>>97677798It’s that and it’s cheap as hell everywhere.
>>97677789Not even top 3 strongest armies
>>97677789No its because they have fantastic fluff and have been outright ignored in Age of Sigmar to the point the last AoS edition "The Era of the Beast" was planned to be all about them but they shelved that due to backroom horseshit and made it more stormcasts and orcs. The beastmen are the true folk horror faction, the insidious nature of chaos as a corruptive force rather than an inverse elemental kind of one. These aren't captain planet but with plague, change, blood and excess. They are the feral impulses in every man woman and child brought to bare. The fact the map >>97676412 shows how widespread they are to the point they outnumber most other factions and thats almost certainly because the humans were quietly reaching a point they birthed as many gavebeasts as normal humans if not moreso and kept it on the downlow is such a perfect metaphor for how the world was destined for some end times or another. To say nothing of Morghur being some primordial chaos element that is some deep warp shit that can never truly die, doesn't need the chaos gods patronage, and every time he is reborn the whole world is sicklier with crops worse and mutations on a worldwide level skyrocketing.A lot of people who dont look into them dont appreciate just how unique and rich their backstory is. Mostly because they actually predate warhammer itself. They were The Broo from Runequest and that itself is based on ancient myths of the satyr, the gorgon, the minotaur and so on dating back real world millenia. Yes i am shilling them but i love them not for how they roll on the tabletop but because they were a breath of fresh air in a sea of tolkein inspired things like orcs and elves. Many other games tried beastkin or whatever, but it was just never as cool or threatening. They are the thing the parents tell kids to not go alone in the woods for. Theres a reason they are in every GW system.
>>97677829Wild Herd says "hello", anon. Look at the data from the last few months. The army is objectively overpowered. If you look at the data from the last thirty day, it's the best army in the game. Playing a strong army is nothing to be embarrassed about.
>>97677838Beastmen are a second tier army wielded by first tier chads. Wild Herds performance is 100% down to skill.
>>97677838>Look at the dataNever. I play for rule of cool. Satyrs are cool. Minotaurs are cool. Preyton are fuckin' sick. You have no power here Rob.
>>97677831All of that was true before TOW came out and the army wasn't populad back then. What AoS did or didn't do is largely irrelevant and wouldn't result in people starting the army now by buying new models. If anything, they'd be rebasing their models. I'm glad you like the beastmen, anon, but I don't think your reasoning holds water.>>97677848That's fine and dandy, but you don't get to claim an army isn't the best army in the game if you refuse to look at the data. Wild Herd is objectively overpowered. I can explain why it's overpowered. There's no shame in admitting. The list is very cool, conceptually, and I wish it was as fun as it is without being overpowered.>>97677844No. We know this isn't the case. Nothing about the Wild Herd rules demands any amount of skil to work. The list is just overpowered. Again, there's no shame in admitting that.
>>97677789it's not about the army being strong, it just has rules that represent the army lore really well and you can skew into different builds without being punished.
I like Beastmen because I like the way they feel.
>>97677868You are describing a strong army.
This is all a tactic used by Cathay players to take attention away from them. Don't fall for it. Beastmen are fine. Cathay is the problem.
>>97677884Both Cathay and Wild Herd, specifically, are the problem. Do not hide behind another army.
>>97677862You have to understand Warhammer is and has always been influenced by the pop culture around it. You want to know when Tomb Kings were at their most popular back in the day? when the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies dropped. Why were Beastmen unpopular then? because in the 90's folk horror had fallen out of vogue after the heights of the post hippy era of the 70's and 80's and too early for its resurgence in the 2010's. Folk Horror is in resurgence and so interest in Beastmen is in turn because they are the Folk Horror Warhammer Army the same way Vampire Counts are the Gothic Horror army and Warriors of Chaos are the Hyperborean Horror army. You think Cathay wouldn't come out if China wasn't replacing America in normie pop culture? its always what current trends are that dictates the game like it or not.
You people are idiots.
>>97677880not necessarily, an army can be strong because out of its whole roster it has one or two broken units, and not being punished for bringing a unit doesn't mean they are strong but that they are effective for their points. Basically beastmen are balanced, probably the most well balanced faction in TOW, which makes them stronger than weak factions with underpowered rosters and weaker than strong factions with overpowered rosters.
>>97677770NTA but I bought the AoS beastmen box with a shaman and 6 minotaurs years ago but never cracked it.When I saw beastie boys moving to ToW i decided its a good excuse to crack them so bought a ten pack of gors and got started.Finished them then bought a battalion which probably does me up till 1k games.I still havnt played yet and won't until my dudes are all fully painted and based (only 10 ungors to go) so rules and meta has nothing to do with it, they just look fucking sick
>>97677770Read the lore, they are the coolest villain army right now. Settra is just having a melty, nobody cares about the orc fluff but orc players and chaos is basically being viking slavers and murderhobos which is aesthetically cool but also very boring.Take for example Krawlmaw. A gor born blind but rather than be dashed on some rocks Morghur himself stopped his father doing it, took him under his wing, because he saw in his "maybe i'm the original primordial concept of the chaos spawn wearing a somewhat stable visage in my time on earth" supernatural abilities that Krawlmaw was a true prophet gifted with the ability to see the future. Now decades on Morghur is dead, for now, and Krawlmaw is an ageing old beastman and his power as a shaman has grown vast. So he is waging a targeted guerilla war on the north east doing ambush raids when his visions tell him is the most opportune time with campaing empire soldiers suddenly having the woods outside the camps firelight explode with gors or straight up riding into towns and with a wave of his hand exploding every towns person into a chaos spawn all at once. He isn't just malicious, he is driven. Because he appears to know Morghur has been reborn and if he can find him he is placing the first domino down to start the End Times. There is currently no greater villain in the current theatre of war. Settra just wants to fuck over the Bretts who raided his tombs for relics, the orcs want what they always do, Ogres wont be unified till Greasus unifies them, chorfs and skaven are in hiding and dark elves are being dark elves off on their lonesome. You stop the Beastmen you might actually save the world. But you can't. Not when the humans are birthing more and abandoning them in the woods to establish the next, larger generation of gavebeast brayherds.
>>97677926>Read the loreI don’t think I will.
>>97677934you've had your say anon but now i'll have mine. You're a rascal. A rascal with no respect for Beasts!
>>97677895>when the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies droppedThe mummy movies were in 1999 and 2001 and Tomb Kings dropped in 2003. But I wouldn't expect this kind of basic continuity fact checking from a retard that believes China is ascending. You probably watch that Canadian Chinese CCP "Professor" who has a degree in English but gives lectures on geopolitics (spewing CCP propaganda) as if him having a doctorate in literature means he is qualified.
>>97677943lmao
>>97677943Why respect Beasts, when my Ogres can do anything they can!
>>97677964>Gorgon kicks your Tyrant off a cliff
>>97677926Actually true. They 100% feel the way they should lorewise. The only other army that comes close is probably either Vampires or Orcs. Both, even when built sweay still look the way they should. Meanwhile Bretonia is Pegasi and peasant hordes and High Elves are roaming bands of Lumberjacks with 2 fatass unc dragons in the skies.
>>97677895Setting aside the fact that the Tomb Kings are more popular now than they were back when we called the game we play WHFB rather than TOW, we are ~11 years removed from this "folk horror resurgence". I highly doubt it has any impact on people deciding to buy beastmen models in 2026. I think you're operating on a completely false premise, especially since we're discussing why people on /tg/ are collecting an army. We aren't normalfags, anon. At least I hope we aren't. I also think the term "hyperborean horror" is the most retarded thing I've read all day and shows that you do not understand anything about the warriors of chaos. As for Cathay, it came out because of Total War. It shouldn't have happened, but it did, and now we're all suffering the consequences of that happening. I completely reject your entire argument on the grounds that you're being silly.>>97677904I wish I could say you were right, anon, but you aren't. Wild Herd is not balanced. The default beastmen list is fine, maybe, depends on what data set you're looking at, but Wild Herd existing inherently makes the army as a whole unbalanced. Look at the numbers. They do not lie. Also, look at the herdstone. You cannot say, in good faith, that the beastmen army list does not punish you for not taking a unit while that monstrosity of a unit exists. I'm not going to run a statistical analysis to prove you wrong, but the army is not balanced. It's plain as day for all who care to see it. For the same reasons Wolves of the Sea makes WoC unbalanced, Wild Herd makes beastmen unbalanced. If you want to look at the numbers, look up Old World Rankings and fiddle around with the faction statistics page.
>>97677975NTA but the Ogres kicked the Sky Titans shit in I think they can handle some Gorgon (relative) midgets.
>>97677976Can't fix what has never been broken. Beastmen have been khno since their first army book, which i still recommend new beast players buy as its an excellent companion piece to our arcane journal and they also have a cool mordheim warband to boot.
>>97677985>I highly doubt it has any impact on people deciding to buy beastmen models in 2026. I think you're operating on a completely false premise, especially since we're discussing why people on /tg/ are collecting an army. We aren't normalfags, anon. At least I hope we aren't.Bro you need to catch up on your Vaesen based Folk Horror the beastmen enjoyers have been eating good with kitbash ideas. Shame the spirit of the wild is still squatted.
>>97677926>humans are birthing more and abandoning them in the woods to establish the next, larger generation of gavebeast brayherds.I actually based one of my characters in a narrative campaign around this idea. They're a bray-shaman who is conducting rituals, and might be called a primitive sort of eugenics, in an attempt to increase the rate of mutant births amongst humans. That ever-present, clawing nature of the beastmen is one of my favourite aspects of them. Sure, it's not like the average warherd is going to raze Altdorf or anything, but smaller, more remote settlements are always in danger. And even if those remote settlements don't get razed, they'll just become hotbeds for cultists and mutants, swelling the numbers of chaos right beneath everyone's nose. It's a bit like being locked in a car with no brakes as it slowly begins to roll down a hill towards a cliff. The hill might even out a little and bleed some of your momentum, but you're still eventually going off the cliff.
>>97677985Actually in the Midlands where GW is based theres been a massive folk horror/paganism revival in the last ten years with a lot of Black Library Writers and even some games designers contributing to group works like "Field Studies, a Folk Horror Review". Largely the people who did a lot of the best vampire counts stuff in the late 90's. Trends change as do people. If you were 13 back in like 2003 the beastmen might seem plain compared to the warriors of chaos for example but as an adult in this time period you might appreciate them in a way you simply never did as a kid.
>>97675512So proud of you for even figuring out how to type on your computer, lil fella
>>97677926>nobody cares about the orc fluff but orc playersI like Orc and Goblin fluff, but they don't seem to be doing anything in TOW despite the fact that there's a big WARRGH happening in Brettonia currently happining in the lore
>>97678014For my escalation league army starting point here >>97676387 my lore -since the campaign all agreed to write little lore backstories and updates to have one collected narrative at the end- my wargor and shaman were twins born to low ranking nobles lording over a small barony on the east of the empire. The mother couldn't bare to look at them, the father promises to "take care of it" but couldn't since they had his blue eyes. He abandoned them in the woods, watching from a distance as a Beastdoe claimed them both, and nearly 30 years later a brayherd came and razed the town, the leader and his brother never noticing the two little graves behind the largest home that bore the same icon thats on a rusty old medallion the shaman keeps wrapped around his staff. My bro actually made his Empire force include a unit of survivors and their attatched hero is canonically their cousin but neither side knows it. But they've never been close enough to see each others eyes yet...
>>97678026Orcs are the warhammer worlds equivalent to bad weather. Orcs are about? get ready for ruined crops, toppled trees, burned houses, broken dams and in general a mess that could take years to clean up.
>>97678035I like how in Trollslayer they were portrayed as truly horrifying savages, using fear tactics against settlements.
>>97678036>"What d'yoo reckon bazza?">"I'm recokin' we shit em right up tovvo me old mate">"Fuckin' sound lad"The military genius of the orc should not be underestimated.
>>97678030You guys don't care about data but make up faggy stories about your armies? is this just a greybeard game for uncs?
>>97678043Coming up with stories and names for your miniatures is noble and good, anon. Understanding and discussing data is also noble and good. Go be a zoomer elsewhere.
>>97678040Orcs may be retards. But gobbos are brainy vindictive cunts.
Thoughts on using some third party wendigo style model as a beastmans giant chaos spawn? or is that too uniform and not mutated enough?
>>97678062I would have no problem with it, in fact I think it's a really cool idea.
>>97677985>beastmen aren't balanced because wild herd isn't balancedbut that isn't because the faction roster is broken like it is for errantry crusade or jade fleet/cathay and it's clear that on the roster alone beastmen are around the middle in power ranking and the average of all three beastmen armies is near exactly 50%, aka perfectly balanced. Compare that to Cathay where it is something like 62% and the difference is obvious. The herdstone is definitely a problem but much of that is because it is intended to be situational when in actuality it is just great for 90% of scenarios.
Personally, and i know this is personal flavour autism, i like my Beastmen and my WoC entirely separate. My WoC are sieging city walls with lined army ranks of ravening hordes or casting insidious spells in dark cabals. i don't want my Beastmen like that. I want my peanut butter and chocolate seperate. For me my Beastmen as the malevolent force in the old growth forests. The reason any trade convoys avoid the burned out ruins of failed village startups that settled to close to the tree lines or the reason lumberjacks refuse to touch certain patches of prime lumber no matter how much his local lord pays or threatens. They are a little kids bad dream, a story their grandmother learned from her grandmother about why you should stay out of the forests and never go out into the wilderness alone. not a force that sieges cities but that comes out of the dark like the vampires in 30 days of night, razing villages, dragging what they want back into the dark of the trees and dancing around herdstones while doing the most terrible things. Are you picking up what i'm braying down?
>>97677770We grow strong while the cities of man FAIL.I'm actually so happy to see so many beastbros on this board. Every model picture they post makes me smile. Keep up the good work beastbros.
>>97678086Definitely get it, this may sound like a diss, but Beastmen are a more mundane/common threat. However, I love them way more for that. I can imagine some dirt-poor middenland village defending their farm from a random beastmen skirmish, where I feel besides random marauder raids, WoC are a bit more grand-scale.That being said, I am still excited for the supposed Beastmen+WoC journal coming. It'll probably be some fun flavor.
>>97678062That cool beastbro. do it.
>>97678062OH SHIT FOLKS WE MIGHT HAVE A WINNER HERE.
>>97678090NTA but I agree they are more common and " mundane " in context of their frequency relative to WoC. That being said, again I go back to trollslayer. The beastmen using dog looking chained up beastmen as tracking hounds, the beastmen skittering about on spider legs. There is a lot of room for creative/fucked up/body horror that hasn't been explored yet for beasts. And I really hope they will eventually.
>>97678069A 50% winrate is not balanced. Games of Fantasy can end in draws, anon, so a 50% win rate is actually significantly better than average. Picrel is a graph showing the faction winrate data over the last 30 days with subfaction winrates included within the main list (what even is the term for non-AJ lists? main list? default list?) winrate. The mean winrate over the last 30 days (this data is from tournaments, keep that in mind) is 43.3%. Beastmen are standing at a 52.5% winrate and a ~28% podium placement rate. Cathay is at 51.5% winrate and a ~32% podium placement rate. We can argue about which of the two is more overpowered (Cathay, obviously), but that doesn't mean beastmen are balanced. Another faction being overpowered does not make your faction any less overpowered, anon.
>>97678098Yeah, part of me hopes they make a dedicated warped gor unit one day, I feel thats a perfect opportunity to see shit like picrel
>>97678090I think thats why i like them. Take their Mordheim warband for example. A lot of others need some wierd twist on the usual stuff to make it work. Like the Undead is a single lowest level vampire and a necromancer servant and the rest are shitty minions not fit for WHFB. Kind of like how theres no Space Marine team for Necromunda because that would be silly. But the beastmen? you got a wargor, some gors, a centigor, chaos hounds. Its just a small scouting party from the nearby forests that are 1:1 with their army equivalents and thats so cool.
>>97678098Thats basically the warped gor unit from the arcane journal, you can go hog wild they are just ostracised somewhat from the regular, hypcritical, gors.
>>97678069Also, I completely forgot to address your points about the roster of units beastmen have access to. Again, I'm not going to run a statistical analysis to tell you which units are being picked more or less because I frankly can't be bothered and also because I respect your intelligence enough to believe you'll look at the army lists that are available online on your own time and figure out why what you're saying is wrong. The beastmen roster is not bad. I'd say it's actually quite good. There's a reason the highest placing lists are functionally identical.
>>97678133Rad conversions, anon.
>>97678133Fuck those look incredible
>>97678096
>>97676438GW isn't based enough for an army of half naked women. They're already covering up the one they do.
>>97678148>>97678151You just need to let the spirit of 6th edition move you. Waiting on some green stuff to fill some gaps and add some sores, also thinking of trying cheese cloth to give some of them hoods like lepers maybe?
>>97678153This is proof GW knew they were going into Iran early. Made for that market.
>>97678161How did you get into learning to sculpt with green stuff? I have never done it before.
>>97678161What mutation bits are you using? I've been trying to hunt down an old chaos mutation spure from back in the day with no luck.
>>97678166Starting with putting hair on bald heads is the easiest way to learn in my experience. That and letting it sit a bit before working on it, keeping some e45 cream of vaseline for your fingertibs and blades to not pull stuff off and a cheat set of clay modelling tools for a few quid off ebay.>>97678173Largely its what was left on the plastic chaos spawn sprues but also a few putrid blightking bits and the musician has a bird head from those warcrew vulture dogs growing out of his head and screaming into the horn. I tried to make half look lopsided but then some like the 'wormhead' feel like they are working as intended like any regular gor but just shaped wrong versus the other half that all walk off kilter like they shuffle or limp a bit. That plus a more tattered ogre kingdom banner should give an overall unit impression they are the unwanted dregs of the herd. Like the anti bestigors going down a path leading to chaos spawn rather than to wargor.
>>97678101Non-AJ is 'Grand Army' I think. Again I can accept that wild herd is strong, but I mostly pin that on the herdstone, though the casting was strong before they changed it, and not with the faction roster. Also winrate is as much about the other faction balance as it is about the faction in question, and with more factions underperforming than overperforming or equalizing it skews the results, so an average of 50% is actually a lot closer to being balanced than it seems. It is because the factions are imbalanced that beastmen appear imbalanced when they are in the sweet spot for what every faction should be, with the right points for each unit, limited supplementary rules and very good internal balance. A perspective like yours is exactly why GW cosistently fails with balance, they are looking at statistics without taking into account how inconsistent internal balance is across the factions.
>>97678192There are exactly two factions underperforming, statistically, in that data set. There are three overperforming factions and nine balanced factions, though several of the balanced factions have a very small sample size with some only having ~50 games played. On both sides of the distribution, the difference between over and underperformers and the closest balanced factions is very stark, I eyeball it at ~1 standard deviation. We can talk about the statistics (please don't, I already have to do enough stats for uni), but I completely reject your premise that the balanced and underperforming factions are skewing the data set for the simple reason that armies that win tend to fight other armies that win. That's how tournaments handle matching players. You know, higher and lower tables, if you win you play against someone who just won, if you lose you play against someone who just lost. We can also look at the data regarding the distribution of the number of wins each faction gets at events (i.e. how many people playing x faction get 0, 1, 2, ... wins, and it doesn't support your argument!), but I can't be bothered. Suffice to say, no, the data set is not being skewed by the underperforming factions. Also, no, a 50% winrate is not balanced. If an army wins 50% of the games it plays, that necessarily means it loses or draws less than it wins. I'm not going to write you a statistics paper on it, but an army that has a 50% winrate in a game with more than two final game states is not a balanced army. Finally, with regards to internal balance, that in and of itself is a strength. I'm not saying beastmen should be nerfed, I'm asking you to admit that beastmen as an army are currently overpowered relative to other armies. Which, well, I guess you already did by saying that other armies aren't internally balanced. So, uh... QED? As for "my perspective" being why GW sucks at balancing, no. GW doesn't balance good because good balance doesn't make $$$.
why would i want peasant levies in cathay? my jade warriors are already pretty good and cheap. not trying to be facetious, legitimately new to the game and trying to understand why i would want some or if i need to pick them up?

I am a little annoyed that the rumor is an AJ with blended Chaos Warriors/Beastmen AoI comes alongside new Chaos Warriors and Knights kits. You already have two different decent options for those. How about some new Centigors and Beastmen Chariots?
>>97679401>
>>97678030>Characters in beastmen faction related to characters in other human factionsGod damn, that's so obvious I totally overlooked it. I'll probably steal that if I get the chance to introduce more characters.Do you run homebrew rules in your league, or do you just run vanilla? My group usually comes up with, and collectively agrees on, special rules for /ourdudes/. The rules will usually get altered, or new rules added, as the campaign goes on to reflect what's happens (i.e. getting stronger/weaker, getting a new item, etc etc). As an example, one of my faction leaders is a gluttonous ungor that ate his way into a position of power in the herd and into Slaanesh's favour. Him and his unit get a bonus to their movement to get them into combat, but but once they're in combat, or win combat, they basically get stuck where they are. The trade-off, however, is that they get big bonuses to their survivability (increases to toughness, extra wounds, ward saves, etc etc), so they're tough bastards to uproot. The idea is to convey that this fat fuck is in a rush to get to his "feast", and once there, won't move until he's finished with it.
>>97680205Ironically, unless they give the chaos warriors their 2nd attack back from 7th/8th, they'll still be a bad choice in an army.
>>97680205You're looking at it from the point of view of the customer, not the point of view of the company. They are launching a new range of models with cathay and know that they want an equally central and updated range to pit against it, and that can only be chaos. There are effectively two different 'tow' products: one is the old ranges, one is about the new ranges. They are also separating tow from aos, which means they cannot rely on aos' kits and it means that both sides are in the process of diversifying their chaos offers: aos gets conan-like marauders, tow gets viking-like marauders; tow gets classical plain chaos warriors, while aos is going to update its warriors again with trims and whatnot within the next 3 years.
>>97680179they were still available here and there a little over a year ago, I started with that box and the new start collecting for 20 of every gor, two shamans and a ghorgon. I'd be lying if I said I didn't do it for the deal but they have easily become my favourite army to play in TOW.
>>97680159I'm not that far yet but I'm sure he does eventually. Also I guess the beastmen kind of count. The orc one is the third story.
>>97680476finding oop starter sets is a great joy, because not only are they usually better deals than what gw currently offers, but they're also not likely to have kept up with price inflation either. That box is around 122 pounds if you were to buy everything straight from gw btw(it's not quite as straightforward because both ungors and bestigors are sold in 20's, but you get the idea)

>>97680811Eh. I don't dig the looks. Besides I'm far from GW only. I do historicals, different scales, non GW sculpts. There is a slow grow league that usually starts around april so that'll keep me busy for the better part of the year.
>>97680725Nothing is once per game unless specifically said so. So yes, they can use it every turn.>>97680179It's a decent as a "reinforcement" set for Old world. As a starter box it's pretty crap as nobody wants just 10 gors.
>>97680777Iranian plastic isn't cheap.
>>97678153Unless these are replacing witch elves (which they are, to my knowledge, not) I fail to see the argument. They are - as best as I understand it - "elite infantry" for the witch elf faction, they therefore look different (more armored) than normal witch elves, they also have two handed weapons/polearms unlike witch elves. Clearly a sort of "executioners" role. What design space is there for the already naked bikini women except "now they wear something"?
>>97680807It unironically depends on how you want to run your army. Also the peasant box is a fomo box and the battalion is not. If that matters to you.
>>97681220NTA but they're wearing a mix of black cloth and armor. It's common in for example Japanese media to self-censor for the western audience to replace exposed skin with black clothing. They're supposed to be elite infantry but then why aren't they covered head-to-toe in armor? Dark Elf Executioners wear more armor.
>>97681295>They're supposed to be elite infantry but then why aren't they covered head-to-toe in armor?Because theyre still in the witch elf army? With the visual identity of sexualized designs and not much clothing? If they were dressed like executioners they would look out of place (because executioners did not look like witch elves, they existed within the greater framework of "dark elves"), so instead they look like "armored witch elves".
>>97681295It's a weird spot to begin with. Witch elves are already sort of elite infantry (or at least, they should be). Them not wearing a ton of armour is pride and vanity thing, as it's their way of flexing on their opponents. If anything, a witch elf wearing more armour would probably be seen more amongst the lower ranked and less skilled, not amongst the elite of the elite.
>>97681337That's my point. The black latex bodysuits they're sporting do absolutely nothing. Just have them with armor and exposed skin. They're in this weird in-between state right now where it looks like they were designed to have armor (but not that much) and last-minute a decision was made to cover them up.
>>97681366Witch elves actually arent elite infantry, either in WHFB or (I assume) AoS. Theyre like 10(11?)ppm, about as low as elves get, and they were even core at times. They were a fairly spammable infantry unit which you could reliably take in large numbers. In AOS theyre the bread and butter of the faction (I assume), so im guessing they also arent that elite. >witch elves dont like armor/heres why it makes sense that theyre naked!Thats fine, im sure there are some reasons you can make for it (the best reason - at least in whfb - is "theyre insane religious zealot berserkers") but that doesent help with model visual identity. How do you make "elite witch elves" stand out visually if theyre not wearing anything different? Have them wear even less and go full 6e morathi? Im all for it, but I think thats not really realistic for fairly obvious if unfortunate reasons. So that leaves you with "they wear more" as the only space to go, either with robes or in this case armor. I dont know what the culture for AoS witch elves are or if theyre even remotely similar, but theyre a whole faction as far as I understand it rather than a sect within an existing faction, so presumably they have more variations and are less "inherently silly". >>97681395Anon you typically wear things beneath the armor. "They have a bodysuit beneath all their plate" is actually entirely reasonable. And its not like theyre wearing "little" armor either, This stuff would easily pass for "full plate" in whfb. Look at it. This isnt the sylvannas windrunner "bits of armor + bikini" aesthetic.
>>97681395>The black latex bodysuits they're sporting do absolutely nothing.Reads more like leather. Which could have more application. It just looks cool either way imo.
>>97681427Personally my complaint about them is that I dont like the poses (from a "could I use them for WHFB things" perspective) and I dont like the weapons. The weird bident things just look kinda bad imo. They would have been better with the draichs the champion has, or with more traditional glaives. Or hell, big two handed axes in the style of the super old executioners.
>>97681450Basically I would rather they look more like this lady, than the others.
>>97681466Maybe it's just me, but couldn't you just paint these skin colored instead of as a body suit?
>>97681523I guess? It might look weird in some spots (like the one chick who has what are clearly "holes" in the bodysuit to show off some skin, but on the whole you could probably have it be skin colored.
>>97681539Sounds like perfect spots for arrow wounds.

>>97681523No, they have folds sculpted on them
witch elves wearing clothes is retarded and gay
>>97681662they should be covered in blood, not clothes
>>97681427>How do you make "elite witch elves" stand out visuallyAs a quick example with five seconds of thought - play up the whole "brides of Khaine" angle. Give them ceremonial veils, skirts/loincloth, and sleeves, and pair it all with long strips of flowing fabric. Think of something between a bride, a priestess, and a belly dancer. The polearms can stay, but focus it's design on slashing over piercing.Fluff-wise, all the extra, easy to grab, material is a way to showcase their skill. The better the witch elf is, the easier they can keep those strands of fabric away from their opponents, and the more the fight resembles a dance or religious ritual - which bloodletting and killing is for the witch elves.Conversely, you could do something like I suggested, but also do a bit of the AoS route and play up the whole monster girl angle - as in the snake women or the (not)harpies.I think the broader problem is that GW has a habit of not building on the cultures they have established, if they both to establish them at all. There's a lot you could do with witch elves, in theory, but GW just never bothers to flesh them out.
>>97681662Which elves?
>>97681681>There's a lot you could do with witch elves, unironically this isn't true.
>>97681567>>97681621Huh, yeah those are pretty blatantly cloth. I hadn't fully looked at the models cause wasn't really interested, but that's really lame.
>>97681427>How do you make "elite witch elves" stand out visually if theyre not wearing anything different?the old reliable method is a big helmet plus a cape or large shield
>>97681220They're just the guards of the Cauldron of blood but shitty.
>>97681681> Think of something between a bride, a priestess, and a belly dancer. The polearms can stay, but focus it's design on slashing over piercing.Heres the issue, what youre describing sounds quite a lot like this chick from the slaanesh faction. >There's a lot you could do with witch elvesI dont think thats really true. Witch elves, kinda by design, are a very one-note and extreme end of a broader society. Its like saying you can do a lot with flagellants or khorne berserkers. You cant really. You could do a lot with "dark elves", or "the cult of khaine", but witch elves? You need to start making them less extreme and "witch elfy" at that point.
>>97681951>you should not try and instead make them something completely different What is this thought process?
>>97681968The one that understands that you cant make a faction out of a single specialist unit? Certainly not one thats "a proper faction" (you can always do 40k harlequins and have 4 units). If you told me to make an army out of "khorne berserkers", the first thing I would do is figure out what there would be to their society beyond dudes with axes running at you. You would make it less "khorne berserkers" and "khorne cult" or whatever. Likewise if you made a "flagellants" army you would need to expand it to "religious peoples crusade" to work as an actual army, rather than three flavors of the same melee infantry. Extreme, one note, units do not work as the foundation of proper armies.
>>97681813Pole dancer witch elves, they have big polearms/spears that they plant in the ground, and they they dance around them using knives in their hair/feet to kill people
>>97682015>lazyness Checks out.The basal foundation is "crazy half naked women" and it is a very workable foundation if the many stl makers are any indication.
>>97682040>Checks out.>The basal foundation is "crazy half naked women" and it is a very workable foundationIt isnt, unless you consider "Half naked woman but she has a different weapon this time" to be a good faction roster. There are a lot of different ways you can do "half naked woman", but they are largely "mutually exclusive" if you dont want redundancy and bloat.
>New threadThey made the captcha even more annoying since the last time I pointed here.>>97682045>>97682045>>97682045
>>97681951I should have been more selective with my words - there's a lot you could do with witch elves... within their niche as part of the Dark Elves. Honestly, I'm talking more about the cult of Khaine in general. At the end of the day, they're still gonna be "the murder cult", but it wouldn't hurt to have more politics, internal theological disagreements, or more codified rituals/symbolism. >what youre describing sounds quite a lot like this chick from the slaanesh faction.Putting aside how watered down they are for a Slaanesh, I actually like the look of the HoS. Given Morathi's fuckery with Slaaneshi shit, and her involvement with the cult of Khaine and the witch elves, I feel like something with a more "dark elf" version of that aesthic should have worked as a splinter group within the cult of Khaine.
>>97682057Redundancy and bloat? You mean options. You sound like the guys that don't like empire militia because state troopers exist.
>>97681662I didn't know the girl from the cover had a model. Nice.
>>97681427>>How do you make "elite witch elves" stand out visually if theyre not wearing anything different?Clearly AoS' answer was the snake and harpy girls before these abortions showed up.
>>97682071>within their niche as part of the Dark ElvesOn that I agree. But when you remove the Dark Elves you limit your options and that is (as far as I understand) the situation theyre in in AOS. Hence them now having to reverse engineer the broader dark elves from the witch elves. Hence armored witch elves. And yea, plenty you could do with the cult of khaine. Disciples would be an obvious starting point, theyre canon enough to have precedent (both in the MMO and Malus Darkblade/now the RPG) and they could potentially work like warrior priests for empire.>>97682074>Redundancy and bloat? You mean options."witch elves but they have spears now" or "witch elves but they have two handed weapons" as a separate unit is not "options", its a waste of space. Yes, in the strictest terms and using the WHFB framework of "unit with upgrades" more options is better (see WoC, who have like four different weapons available to their bread and butter unit). But in the world of "we are releasing a new unit as an effort to expand the faction and have each unit be its own thing"? No, it doesent work.If when they get around to updating empire they release "greatswords, but with halberds" as the new unit? That would also be bad and redundant, especially if its an entirely new unit rather than an upgrade/dual kit. >>97682099That sorceress also has a borderline 1:1 model. >>97682106Monstergirls are both worse, its not even close.
