Forest Dragon. I can live with the 1980s WD cartoon sketch design, but I don't want to deal with a metal model that has to be self supporting like that thing does.

I managed two more games of Battle March in our PTG Escalation league. This time at 750.

Snagrog's first encounter of the night was against an opposing Orc Tribe, with night goblins, a chariot, bow boyz and a nasty duo of fanatics.

Since his initial battles against the stunties, Dnagrog encountered the Wily Goblin Whizzbang, who held aloft the Battle Standard, alongside a gigantic mangler squig abd 5 hoppers.

The battle took place in a broad valley and the Orcs advanced upon one another. First blood as the enemy Orcs arrers skewered one of Snagrog's Big uns.

Then, disaster as the enemy Orc Boar chariot crashed into the boar boyz, killing them all. But, despite this the arrer boyz counter charged, won combat, broke it and ran it down!

Whizzbang's Squigs were also busy, with the mangler tearing apart the enemy boar big uns and forcing them to flee.

The night gobbos tossed out two fanatics, killing 3 boyz and 1 wound from mangler.

Soon the two generals approached

Snagrog looked around. Grimtoof had charged the night goblins and were hackimg away despite being covered in nets. The squigs were bounding around to hit them in the flank, tearing apart gobbos in a gory display.

But his main focus was the other Orc Boss on the other side. The git had been peppering him and his big unz with arrers and some of the weaker ones had fallen.

Snagrog's own arrers were too busy looting the chariot so it was time to take things into his own claws. In front of the enemy orc boss, was a group of 5 enemy arrer boyz.

With a great WAAAGH, Snagrog and his big uns charged. Another arrow caught a big un in the eye, dropping it. With a great fury, Snagrog ripped the opposing orcs limb from limb.

Now the enemy orc cheiftain faced Snagrog. With a terrible crunch, both big uns of both tribes met face to face.

"COME 'ERE YA GIT!" roared Snagrog. But the cowardly git pushed forward one of his big uns to face him.

The unfortunate orc pushed forward to face Snagrog, swung his choppa wide and struck out with a frenzy of a crazed squig. The clash of metal was met with a haunting silence as Snagrog glared for a moment. One swing from Snagrog is all it took and with a sickening crunch and yelp, the Orc was cleaved from head to torso.

"BOSS!! WE GOTTA GO!" Snagrog turned and saw his boyz were getting krumped with the opposing chieftain tearing apart his ladz. A small part of him wanted to leg it, no point dying here. But he saw, at the edge of his vision, a quick flash of bounding red.

"WITH ME LADZ! WITH ME! IN ORDER!!!"

Snagrog hunkered down and began gradually falling back but always facing the enemy. The rest of the boyz locked shields around Snagrog's enormous pouldrons and thick skull. The enemy big uns rammed straight into them.

This time, Snagrog roared a challenge directly at the enemy chieftain. This time, none of the enemy big uns dared meet him, so the enemy chieftain was forced to face him.

Suddenly, a terrible sound of splitting metal and tearing flesh erupted. Whizzbangs Mangler and squigs tore into the enemy big uns, butchering through the ranks.

The enemy chieftain raised its great axe and it slammed into Snagrog. The meteoric iron let out a deafening screech, but it held. Snagrog grinned and shoved the enemy big boss back. Suddenly, their lines broke and just as he was about to flee, Snagrog shoved his axe into the chieftain's bsck, cutting him down.

A victory for Snagrog's ladz!

The second battle was against Tomb Kings, the exact list my Chaos army was completely annihilated by in the tournament. Now, it was Snagrog's turn.

"Huh, dead fings" grunted Snagrog

Shiny dead things to be specific. The Orcs advanced forward, with the khemri chariots flubbing their opening charge. The squig hoppers, scared of dead things, hopped meakly only a few feet forward. The skeletons let loose a hail of arrows, cutting down Grotfang's boars numbers. The mad orc still spurned on.

Snagrog advanced slowly with the big uns while Grimtoof, the beleagured Black Orc, lead his boyz straight into the Tomb Guards. The Mangler joined.

Despite their best efforts, the Tomb Guard and Tomb Prince cut down the Mangler and Grimtoof's Boyz were pushed back.

Snagrog saw a group of skeketon archers in front and despite trying to hokd back, his big uns ran foward. Tearing them apart, they overran and by the time they recovered, he surveyed the scene.

The bloated, red corpses of the squig hoppers and mangler were littered on the field, and Grimtoof's boyz were getting chewed up.

The arrer boyz were running. In th distance, Grotfang the Boar Boss, was alone, facing the archers and priest. It was time to fall back.

Elephants are to elephants what ogres are to humans, taller, stronger, tougher, and of course PHATTER. Basically palaeoloxodon but with hippo-like bodies.

Just fat pigs. It's the orcs who'd love the idea of big-ass aquatic horses who kill anything they can reach out of sheer hatred, they're basically bigger, tougher boars with jaws the size of their torsos.

The battle was over. Grimtoof the jaded Black Orc, his mob and the arrer boyz were being cut down by the Tomb Prince, the chariots and his retinue. Snagrog grunted in anger.

In the distance, he saw the familiar horned helmeted figure. Grotfang the mad boar boss, alone while the unit of skeleton archers with their priest standing off.

Snagrog knew he was mad, but not that mad, surely. Grotfang, noticing his boss, shot an apeish grin and roared.

"I GOT DIS BOSS! SHOWZ YOU I'Z A GOOD ORC! WAAAAGHHH!"

The entire archer line opened fire. Many landed, but the mad Orc kept going. Most lodged in his pig, others his plate while one had lodged straight into his thick skull.

With an ear splitting crunch, Grotfang tore into the skeletons. Swinging wildly, his pig screaming as its tusks brought down a skeleton.

"GORK N MORK! WATCH ME KRUMP DESE BONY GITS!"

The skeletons fought back but it seemed their weapons simply glanced from the Orc's flesh. As if a miracle of Gork (or Mork) the skeletons and heirophant simply fazed out (they lost combat and gave ground off the board!).

Snagrog stood agape for a moment. Grotfang and his pig trotted up to Snagrog, "TOLD YA I COULD DO IT BOSS!"

'"Shut yer trap! We iz outta here!"

A minor loss to the Tomb kings. Around 300 to 500 victory points. Bloody fun though and Grotfang the Boar Boss was the MVP after that mad charge.

>>
>>97706401
Practically speaking, it's probably kind of a waste to deck your dude and horse in full heavy armor only to then have them stay the fuck back shooting at people. If you want to shoot, you're better off dropping the weight for added mobility and harassment. If you're gonna wear all that armor, you better put all that mass to use by crushing infantry.

Nothing says that your armored knights can't carry handguns though.
>>
>>97706401
Repeating guns are expensive, as is full plate. The Empire can't have both heavy cavalry and repeating guns in meaningful numbers, though the outriders show that the guns are better.

Pardon the post count but thought I'd share some thoughts on the O&G army so far. I found once again, the orcs and gobbo army highly resourceful. The army didn't implode if one key unit died. Fanatics, which used to scare me something major as Khorne Chaos, I simply weathered with sheer numbers with my boyz.

Against tomb kings who annihilated my Chaos and left my Chosen deathstar aroujd by the noose, my Orcs put up a noticeably better performance. And regardless of the end result, its just so...fun. I am split on the armour or frenzy on big un boars though, seems a bit iffy.

Hope to add night goblins and fanatics soon. Overall, what a wonderdul army!

Again, feels like a waste, treating complex and expensive guns as fire-once weapons then switch to melee. Not that I don't see the utility in such a tactic, but I feel like it's a much better use of resources to put those guns in the hands of dedicated ranged soldiers who can make the most use of them, consistently reloading for repeated volleys.

And if your idea is a very specific "I want to target an enemy unit deep into enemy lines then charge them", then that sounds like you're better off sending outriders first, discharging on the targets, then moving aside for the big heavy cav to finish them off.

I think pistols started appearing more and more during the late 1500s, supposedly they were deadlier in melee than lances. Well-trained cavalry would discharge their pistols only at near swordpoint, while lesser troops shot at a distance. In practical terms I guess you could model your empire knights with pistols and say they're armed with great weapons.

What's sad about this that the average modern Warhammer player can't even tell the difference. They look at the nu shit and say "what's wrong with it?"
In the old days fantasy fans read all sorts of fantasy literature, they took inspiration from historical battles, etc.
Modern Warhammer players are not fans of "fantasy" as a genre, they don't read classic fantasy, tolkien, moorcock, norman, howard, etc. They don't know dick about history. Their only interest is Warhammer. Their "hobby" is just consuming GW™ products.
This extends to Games Workshop and it's employees as well. The OG names in the company and the actual creators of the setting and it's aesthetic were all inspired by classic fantasy and they were all well read in history, actual historians, archaeologists, etc. and had real interest in hobbying, kit bashing, making epic terrain and battlefields, home brewed armies, banners, lore, etc.
NuGW employees grew up playing WoW and Overwatch 2, Fortnite and League of Legends. Like the players they have no understanding of classic fantasy or history, hell most can't even read at an 8th grade level, and the new models and lore reflects all of this. They don't make terrain, they don't homebrew, most never finish painting they army before they move on to consooming a new one

It really is sad to see the decline of Warhammer from a niche hobby for passionate dorks into mass market entry level normie slop
>>

>Honestly, Tomb Kings would have been absolute perfection if they had used the time spent designing that silly bone dragon to make new basic skeletons and/or chariots.
I'm still so perplexed about that decision. TK have one of the most beloved giant monster kits in the entire game, and one of the most derided basic infantry kits, and they decided to herald their return with another, much-less-good giant monster kit while keeping the skeletons the same.

Is the little writing scribbles on the flag a new design choice for bretonia? I dont remember it in fantasy battles era stuff. Honestly I like it, reminds me of Medieval charters and stuff, nice new aesthetic touch if so.

Something else that might be a cool iconography to add to bretonian stuff is signum manus. Cross based Initial design that was often used in the high middle ages for signatures. They almost look dwarven with their geometric design.

WHAT I DO CARE ABOUT is how the first releases of the Old world were to dilute faction identity by making sure everything faction has access to every type of unit
>both brets and tomb kings getting a flying monster
>despite the fact that brets entire thing is focusing cavalry
>and tomb kings either being on chariots or warsphinxs
Don’t even get me started on foot knights
>an army that’s entire identity is plebs on foot, chads on horses
>getting a foot knight unit
Armies should play differently and giving everyone the exact same options makes armies feel too similar
>>
>>97707669
>royal pegasus
>monster
>diluting the faction identity of bretonnia
I think you are just whining for the sake of whining at this point
>>
>>97707677
It is a flying monster character that for ages could solo a lot of units. That’s not in keeping with Bretonnias playstyle. Characters either go on horses or basic pegasi max

While it’s tempting, it’s imperative you do not feed the Perrymanlet so he doesn’t grow into a threat. Let him samefag and talk to himself.
>>
>>97707689
>unbarded pegasi are totally cool
>barded pegasus is ruining Bretonnian faction identity
Based arbitrary retard.
>>
>>97707721
What part of ‘solo monster character’ did you not read. My issue is with the gameplay being fucking identical to every other army with flying monster character
>>
>>97707669
You don't own any bretonnian minis.
>>
>>97707065
oh shut up. Anyone who likes warhammer also likes other fantasy franchise, mainly LOTR, Conan or Witcher. If GW listened to people like you, Old world wouldn't be a thing because they would keep WFB a humble secret-club, like the last 10 years where the game was fucking dead
>>
>>97707728
Not him but with the state of the models and the dogshit lore I wouldn’t blame him. It’s amazing how gw fucked up knights.
>>
>>97707747
Can you or >>97707724 post a single timestamped Fantasy model? That's usually the best way to tell. If this is ignored it's safe to say these people are trolls.
>>
>>97707737
>WFB a humble secret-club, like the last 10 years where the game was fucking dead
This was unironically a better situation. It's what Mordehim and Warmaster have now. Original BASED versions of the game being kept alive and played by actual fans and enjoyers of the game, not getting fagged up and shat upon by nu-GW and their Chinese sensitivity team
>>
>>97707756
No models from any era/edition?

I’ve posted one of my three armies in most threads (including this one) and I’m not doing a timestamp every time one of you fuckers gets paranoid

Anyone got the new chaos barbarians? How do they build? Are they very limited in terms of poses and customizability?
I'm looking at the sprues, and honestly cant tell.
>>
>>97707848
Oh, it's you samefagging lmao
>>
>>97707845
Yeah the poseability is limited, basically limited to what weapon option you're putting on them. Thankfully the poses all look slightly different so you're not getting a uniform monopose block.

They dont get poses.

just the weapons.

Why did this post get deleted?
>>
>>97707787
I always thought it would be cool if a section of Bretonnia focused more on taming a variety of mystical beasts. Questing beasts, White lions of Chrase, Maybe even a Giant for the lols. Since a lot of armies have sub-themes, while Bretonnia is kind of light on that variety front.

One of my favorite lesser known Chivalric Romances, Yvain, the Knight of the lion, Actually has the titular character tame and befriend a lion who proceeds to become his loyal companion.
>>
>>97707449
Yeah I know lel I was talking about the bret models in the op
>>
>>97707933
oh, lol. Thought I saw that style of freehand a good few times on different official Bretonnia examples. But maybe I am making that up.
>>
>>97707968
I don't remember that. I don't think eavy metal would do a lot of detailed freehand for the promo material just because it's really difficult to emulate well unless you are a very skilled painter.

Anon the sculpts are right there. The unadulterated truth is that they look dogshit. All of bretonians models are not salvageable.

This is too goofy even for Warhammer because of the size discrepancy.
It's like the 6' vs 5'11" meme in real life.

>>97708315
That model is a standout for being bar none the worst TOW model produced by a mile. Him coming out around the same time as Lady Elise is baffling.
>>
>>97707065
Yeah, not understanding history and fiction leads to a poorer life.
I used to not like hoplites because as an army it was basically just the one unit that was painted the same so it was boring but actually reading into the hellenic period and understanding the riot of color and individuality since these were all essentially untrained soldiers made them that much more interesting.
>>
>>97708087

Beastmen are the few armies ive yet to face in TOW. How is the matchup between them and greenskins? Huge grind fest?

Dark Souls is ironically heavily inspired by old Fighting Fantasy books that GW published
>>
>>97708595
It’s a specialist game like Horus Heresy or MESBG. They don’t carry anything from their specialist games other than MAYBE the starter sets and a rulebook at most. Fuck GW anyways buy from a third party FLGS for the discount and because they carry TOW.
>>
There is a small event soon at 750pts, it's going to be my first tow event. I've started chipping away at the new cathay peasant box but looking at the profiles I don't think they are going to be enough.
So far my core is:
1. Astromancer lvl 1
2. 30 peasants with spears or 20 spears + 10 archers
3. Crane gunners in two blocks of 4 each.

Not sure if ironhails are useful with their 12 inch range.

Any cathay players here that could help me please?
>>
>>97708803
What was the post?
>>
>>97709060
NTA but its very strange. If the beastmen try to head to head fight they lose super hard. Orcs are basically same stat line but have armor. They also have heavier unit in general. But beastmen absolutely annihilate them in speed, maneuverability, and tactical options. And beastmen monsters are really fucking good.

It's a toss up based on charging. But I give it slightly over to beastmen due to their magic being more useful and option, their ranged being way stronger, and ambush is amazing. Orcs have way way more staying power, and will almost always grind out against any army.

That kind of sucks. would it really waste store space to have a small selection?

The local game stops Ive been to dont have them either. Guess I could buy from a third party online, but I do want to indicate that there is some cash for GW for the shit im interested in. Want an empire great cannon, but on the GW website its 60$ holy hell thats a lot. Do see a reseller who charges 38...
>>
>>97709882
I get what you’re trying to do and while it’s noble. Third party sales also help. As long as you’re buying TOW branded stuff you’re accomplishing what you set out to do.
