Are your 2h games long because a lot of things happen or people play at a snail's pace?
>>
>TQ:
It is always because of one person "um, um"ing when holding priority.

Some people despite playing for years still can't figure out that there are simply points where you have to guess and play the odds and accept the outcomes. Including when knowing that the best option is to simply hold your resources and pass.
>>
>>97706765
>Are your 2h games long because a lot of things happen or people play at a snail's pace?
Only ever had 2 hour games with new players.
One of them was "new" for like 6 months and still took turns longer than the other 3 players at the table combined. Always forgetting triggers and getting confused and basically starting the turn over again
>>
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
>>
>>97706765
Played a game with 2 noobs, one of them cast pic related on an empty board and was so confused when i said nothing happens which was embarrassing for him but funny.
But jesus christ the other guy missed every trigger possible, had to reread the same cards over and over every single turn as if they changed, turns where he cast 1 spell would still take 10 minutes, he couldnt even do basic math, literally
>UHHH I ATTACK WITH 7 GNOMES AND 3 GNOMES SO THATS UHHHHHHH 7+3 DAMAGE
After a while of me babying him to try to speed things along, whenever it was combat at his turn hed just look at me as if he was asking me to help him resolve his shit, ive legit never met someone so stupid.
>>
>>97707037
Btw the second guy was a literal black nigger who proxied his entire deck and yeah he didnt know what any of his cards did beforehand
>>
>>97707037
>But jesus christ the other guy missed every trigger possible, had to reread the same cards over and over every single turn as if they changed, turns where he cast 1 spell would still take 10 minutes, he couldnt even do basic math, literally
I know someone who isn't really new anymore and is still like that. I legitimately think he may be borderline retarded
>>
>>97706765
they take forever because everyone apparently decided independently that they need to read everything on every card out loud every time it comes up, even when it's been seen before.
I don't fault the younger kid for not knowing which cards are past modern all-stars that the over-thirties would know by heart, but when you (different person) cast scourge of the throne for the third time that night, I'd expect that some people might have gotten the idea.
>>
>>97706765
>Are your 2h games long because a lot of things happen or people play at a snail's pace?
They're long because everyone insists on playing wincon-less bracket-2 garbage, and the second you bring a real win condition you're instantly shitlisted for being "unfun".
>>
>>

>people play at a snail's pace?
Usually its this. People are fucking slow a lot of the time
>>
>TQ
Slimbo will go ahead and take a 30 minute turn, where he's actually doing game actions that just happen to take that long, but won't have done anything to put himself into a clearly winning position.
Grunk will then put down his weed, look at his hand for 7 minute, blinking randomly before he'll play his land drop and does nothing impactful
Vuup will then play farewell or some other board wipe followed by rest in peace.
That's why my games take forever.
>>
>>97707368
>Remember when we pointed out Wheel of potential didn't work as intended, some anons got irrationaly angry for some reason, then we were proven objectively right when Wotc errata'd it? Quite funny

No because this is my first time seeing it
>>
Thoughts on choosing your deck after other players select theirs? Should decks be chosen simultaneously?
>>
>>97707457
Vuup is based because realistically speaking a rebuild stage of the game should go really fucking quickly. If people have nothing to do but land pass until someone draws a relevant threat again, then it shouldn't take more than 30 seconds for each turn.

A bit off-topic, but man, is it me or are the Modern Horizons sets a gold mine for building cubes? So many interesting cards that you can build around or that synergize well with neat themes. It's a shame that they tend to be hella powerful sets that push powercreep in constructed formats.

People who hate mill more than other forms of interaction are the way they are because they build worse decks. They've crammed their decks full of a bunch of cards that don't do anything, so the base case for any given card draw is "meh" instead of "this is helpful." This makes mill hurt them more because they know that they might not get to see another "good" card show up in the game if one of them gets milled.

I don't understand how many lands are actually optimal in bracket 3.
Mathtroons are saying that 40 is actually best to reliably hit land 3/4.
Others are saying that so many lands would be extremely excessive and you shouldn't even run more than the low 30s.
My deck has a low curve and almost no ramp, what should i do? Currently i'm at 38 but it feels super shit if i get flooded, though i would be mega-screwed if i don't play on curve for the first 3-4 turns.
>>
>>97708451
Stay around 38 but incorporate cycling lands, dfc lands, value lands etc
Or reexamine your min-late game card flow. I tend to prefer more lands with enough big burst draw in the late game to power through any extra lands I may see.

The card game Force of Will has resonators, which are functionally equivalent to creatures in MtG. FoW also "rulers," cards that sit outside of the normal play zone but still affect play. Most rulers also have a judgment ability, where they can enter play as a "j-ruler," that functions like a resonator but isn't one. Many cards in FoW that would target a creature target resonators, and therefore can't target a j-ruler. Cards that can, usually use the "j/resonator" shorthand, which means "j-ruler or resonator."
Would a similar set of rules hurt or help Commander?
>>
>>97708491
If it makes you feel any better, I saw a bumbleflower player at a tournament I was at last week get beat by coinflips and it made him seethe.

Coinflip player had Krark's thumb and Okaun, ended getting 22 total coinflip wins then using Chandra's Ignition to win the game while the whole 4 person pod still had >30 health left

Bracket update

Aside from bracket numbers, there is now a flurbulent classification, being flurbulent means your deck is tryhard.

Ways to be flurbulent:
Lowest printing card cost of deck > 500
You have multiple cards in your command zone
A Card in your command zone costs 3 or less, (5 if green), and gives card or mana advantage

What you are looking for is a hypergeometric calculator. It does take some consideration though. My low curve deck has 28 lands, + troll of khaza dum, sol ring, and malakir rebirth. If I end up with sol ring + troll neither function, but both otherwise function. Which leads to
>66.4% to draw two or more 'true' lands in opener, 88.7% with free mull
>70.7% counting sol ring and troll, 91.4% with free mull
But my curve is 4 zero drops (counting stuff like simian spirit guide, snuff out), 19 one drops, 16 two drops, 1 four drop, and 12 reanimation targets.
>>97709180
That line of thought only works if your mana curve is incredibly low, or your draw effects are very cheap. Otherwise you do need to run a decent number of lands.

"oh man i cant play my old deck anymore it's just impossible to keep up" what are you people even talking about, all the good accelerants were released before 2010, all the good tutors were printed before 2010.

More theorycrafting, but alright.

I am playing The Necrobloom and I've hit a bottleneck. I can consistently chuck my deck in the graveyard fairly quickly, but I find I run out of gas with gaea's blessing to loop it back. I either run out of mana or cards. I'm at the point where I'm making 30ish 0/1 plants and zombies but without concordant crossroads I just like need to pass. Part of the problem is I have two basics for hermit druid and like I want lots of cards in the yard to do the graveyard schtick like the various flashback spells to make the deck faster and more consistent.

Without like Narcomeaba what can I do? It doesnt matter what, but turntimber sower isnt good enough on it's own. I could just pivot to scapeshift instead of hermit druid, and that would let me make the manabase a lot less fiddly and complicated so I could run some higher devotion cards, but it's a lot less explosive. Alternatively, I could also shift to second sunrise and zuran orb with like beseech for gaea's will, but I dont know if that's too slow and even more fiddly.

Run combos only if the cards are good enough to be included in the deck independently, unless you are building a dedicated combo deck with the tools to support it. A card has to pull its own weight or it's dead weight when you don't have the other piece.

I love facing theft decks because they fucking blow

Clone decks outperform theft decks in literally every way.

I got one of these a few years ago and am looking for a new artifact deck for it. It's coming out of an old sharuum competitive deck. I'd like to avoid equipment voltron but open to about anything else. Is there a new hotness artifact centered deck I should look into? From reading the brackets it would probably be a 4 that I'd like to be around.
>>
>>97709835
You can go on about brackets but I still don't use them.
>>
I've noted this mindset that if a deck ever EVER wins super early, then it should be treated as if it always would do that.

If you walk into your LGS and see a troon, your are morally obligated to burn that building down immediately

I used this last night, i was getting hated out and about to lose next turn but I just top decked it and even with my shitty board of a few vanilla 2/2s i killed the threat and went from 10 life to 40, game went on for another 5 turns and i lost but it was close

Marchesa + Modular. Your little dudes always keep coming back and you snowball all their fucking counters onto each other making some huge ass 100/100 dude very quickly. Then you can give it flying/unblockable/fear/shadow/whatever to one shot anyone on the spot. Or just Chandra's Ignition it for the gg

>if someone sees you play [one of the most obvious grixis commanders for either aggro or creature combo] they will assume you are playing theft
I typed this and then checked tags on edhrec to see if I could say 'one of the biggest' and gosh darn it she does have more decks tagged theft than aggro. I still don't get it. the reverse-undying clause I guess.

How do I make Zionist tribal?

the creature combo is I steal your creature, attack you, then and sac it

It bothers me to no end that they put "spells you control can't be countered" on the left and "this spell can't be countered" on the right

There's probably some edge cases where it's handy, but it's probably a drawback or irrelevant in most cases.
>>
>>97710085
>>97710142
there's plenty of effects now that say "whenever one or more creatures you control do combat damage" which last strike would increase your possible trigger total of to three.
>>
Any budget deck ideas? Can be any commander any weird combos just looking for something different.

Vampire tribal. Too weak nowadays.
>>
>>97710349
Elfball, mono w angels, mono r goblins, basically any tribal supported by standard since you can find some draft chaff to fill your deck
