you're gonna have to define new here, I guess for 4th edition I liked the new death bringer. Least favorite has to be the hobgoblin hero for kruel boyz, but at least its an easy kitbash. For named characters Im just happy tornus got recognized.

gobsprakk

>Who is your least favorite new character?
also gobsprakk

such a dissapointing character. they set him up as this greasy, wily clever orruk who was manipulating everything from behind the scenes, tricking lords of change, manipulating gods, it finally felt like we were gonna get a proppa schemer, like skragrott was supposed to be, but just like skragrott they wasted him and did nothing with him and "da plan" just turned out to be a big nothingburger like destruction always does because the AoS writers fucking hate destruction for some reason and they must eternally job.

Like others have said. Underwhelming but not surprising. I wish GW had decided to paint the body stockings rather than mould them. Removes choice from the consumer which is a bad thing

You absolutely need to remove the paint from that flying disc. That thick paint layer is ruining all the detail and will only be further evident if you start painting on top of it.

Here's the rub.
GW writers are speds, retards, cripples and dregs.
Not a "proppa schemer" among them.
And the problem with writing characters that are smarter than you are, is that it's hard to do it convincing.

Even if they wanted to do a good job, they can't.
The quality of writers even willing to work on a project like this is low-mid at best, because AOS is, whether you love it or loathe it, a corporate hatchet job rework of a classic, and therefore, has the narrative mark of doom on it that any decent writer will see a mile off and stay clear from; it's life is borrowed, and what is borrowed is only temporary.

I don't really care for characters that much but kurdoss hands down. Lady O is also pretty cool but gets overshadowed a bit. I also like Skragrott's whole deal of capturing priests and shit and putting them in an asylum to predict the bad moon's movement, though I don't know shit about his character beyond that.

Kragnos probably, though I actually like his model, his whole plot is indicative of the wasted potential that was 3rd edition's narrative

>>
>>97727758
i often remember that guy from a few years back who kept coming in here bitching about how the mortal realms worked.

then when pressed on what he actually thought was happening, he turned out to be completely wrong and was just getting angry at his own headcanon of what he supposed the setting to be.
>>
>>97727765
I remember that guy. He was seriously worked up, it was pretty funny seeing how mad people can get about what they think x or y is all about without ever taking the time to see what is *actually* all about. Like I won't begrudge anyone for not being into the whole realm thing, but there's really a staggering amount of people who don't actually know what they are and still get mad about them for things that aren't actually true y'know.
I think this is kind of on gw, it's a failure of presentation on their part. The amount of times I've heard people say they don't like the "multidimensional" nature of the realms...
I think this stems from the shitty 1e maps
>>
>>97727772
I think it's just mtg tourists assuming things work the same
>>
>>97727776
I don't think so, surely mtg tourists wouldn't be so hung up about planes in the first place.
I think it's rather guys who got told the world of fantasy got changed into "multidimensional 40k with sigmarines" on r/totalwar in 2017 or some shit and have never bothered to check if that's true

Again, I don't blame anyone for not liking the mortal realms, they're still pretty out there as setting go, but it's interesting how many people get them wrong when they're honestly very simple. People think aos is even more high fantasy than it is, which is funny because it's already bonkers off the wall capital h High fantasy.

Idk if this has been discussed here yet but there's been rumours that gw is working on a new AoS skirmish type game, combining elements of both warcry and underworlds, and replacing the two.
Warcry seems like it's well on its way out, and underworlds has been a bit quiet as of late (though not out for the count). I think this rumour doesn't come from one of the usual guys so it's not nearly as solid and it wouldn't treat it as such, but just for the sake of argument how would you guys feel about this if it did turn out to be true? could be the mosscairn thing gw copyrighted a while back
>>
>>97728058
The rumour is from here
>>
>750pt "tournament" (it's badly run) in just over a week

I played 3rd but that was years ago, and I got CoS dark elves I could field?
should I?
>why is it 750pts and not spearhead
again, store is retarded
>>
>>97728062
no, it's from some guy over on tga claiming to be another guy from another forum a while back who used to have some good rumours back in the day.
Recently his track record isn't so good, which he says it's because his sources aren't really as closely involved as they used to be. I don't know if that's true or he's just an impersonator, just found it interesting to think about.
>>97728063
I have no idea how well the dark elf part of CoS plays nowadays, let alone at 750pts, but I'd give it a go. I think there's a good chance dark elves don't survive til 5th, might be a nice opportunity to send yours out in a blaze of glory
>>
>>97728106
>it's from some guy over on tga claiming to be another guy from another forum a while back who used to have some good rumours back in the day.
at this point just say it's from your uncle that works at GW
>>
>>97728111
I'm just the messenger man
Regardless of the rumour, I do think it's obvious at this point that warcry is kill, and underworlds seems to be on its last legs. I think it's fairly plausible that gw will want to replace one of them to have a necromunda or kill team equivalent skirmish game running for AoS.
>>
>>97728106
It as mae up here. I guess some guy talked about it somehere else an you're jsut at the end of the human centipee
>>
>>97728063
750 seems just right. You get a spearhead and something to add, or the flexibility to merge two Spearheads minus a little.
I think Spearhead is soulless for hobby projects and it totally killed my local scene in that respect. No one moves past Spearhead into anything more flexible be it PtG or matched play.
Recently I saw that one guy on the lgs discord bought another OBR Spearhead to paint differently, so he has two versions of it to field.
>>
>>97728106
issue being is I don't know how to play 4th, I know the basics as I played 3rd (years ago though) but got no clue what they changed for 4th

GW doesn't have the balls to include allies in a starter set like that. Would be funny for CoS to get big waves for 3 editions in a row though.
More importantly there's not enough deathrattle left to fill a starter box. They already have 2 skelly foot units, what is another barrow guard unit going to provide, what is another baseline skeleton unit going to provide etc.
I think 5th edition's stormcast will be a remake of the vanguard stuff as they're the remaining fatcast

>>
>>97728591
Could be cool but maybe a little fragile no? Someone'a going to take some blood knights or whatever and tear right through your shit
>>
>>97728591
Consider splitting the bleakswords into 3 units, gives you more screening flexibility, and they're not going to do any damage anyway, your number one goal with that list is keeping the darkshards out of combat at any cost and just try and table your opponent with them between their normal shooting and unleash hell. The problem is that a single cavalry unit charging the bleakswords can probably power through and tag the darkshards regardless how well positioned you are, and you're done for.

It costs just as much to cut a mold for a kit of 5-20 models as it does for a hero model. People will typically only buy the hero once, but they might buy the 5-20 model kits multiple times. It's very basic economics, anon, and it's your and everyone else's fault. If you ever, at any point in your life, expressed a desire for plastic hero models to replace metal ones, this is literally your fault.

Question for actual opinions on starting a Grand Alliance Order army.

While I am still waiting for Malerion to appear, as of now I am stuck between Stormcast Eternals, especially the Ruination Chamber, or the Sylvaneth, focus on Treelords and Noble Spirits.

Which of those 2 seem to be the better faction choice?
>>
>>97731400
I'd say SCE because I assume Malerion's boys, if they ever come, are going to be a tricksy army. And Sylvaneth are already a really tricksy army themselves. Not to mention hard to play. Reclusians and Prosecutors fuck hard and look great, so that's a win there.

>Though still hoping Malerion and his army do appear some day, maybe taking inspiration from the black guard.
Same. I don't know what I'd expect for them aesthetically, though. I held off on starting LRL because I wanted them or Malerion but finally started giving in after Horns of Hashut came out and then the increased mentions of Chuardin in lore increasingly signaled he wasn't coming any time soon.
>>
>>97731652
I'm not expecting that this edition, my hope though is that if I do go SCE, that the chamber i go with doesn't disappear next edition, a move that, while I understand, felt wrong for GW to do.
>>
>>97726808
I like this model quality wise but fuck if I don't miss the pincer-wings of the old WHF version (Though not the weird elephant-seal looking face. TWWH definitely made improvements there)
>>
>>97731674
That's an understandable fear. Anything not in Thunderstrike is on the chopping block. Ruination is very doubtful because it's so new and very well received. I'd say Vanguard chamber is next to get Thunderstruck. I almost started SCE back in 3e. Built and primed a whole Dominion half, then gave it to a friend because I couldn't decide on a color scheme.
>>
>>97731612
Nomenclature? Gargant is distinct from Giant, taking root in gargantuan rather than gigas, but it's not about IP as much as forcing consumers to search for specific terms instead of something vaguer that might inform them about other miniatures or games or whatever.
Orruk is pretty much asking the Tolkien estate to sue your ass and Aelf is the original term for such creatures and exempt from lawsuits entirely. GW just want people googling adeptus custodes rather than space marine because otherwise you'll find out that Halo miniatures are cheaper and the game is probably better.

AoS is OBR and Hashut. I kinda want to collect Skaven, but I think that's just my lust for the Plague Bell. WF is Dwarves and Cathay. 40K is a low amount of Crons since 4th which means its a very unbalanced list since my enjoyment of them is very lopsided, T'au and some Votann because I wanted to feel what's it like to start a new range same with Hashut kinda, but berserkers and cthonian stuff has been disappointing. Hoping for more stuff that feels like the Warriors, vehicles and the Hearthguard and less slayers and norse stuff since it's feeling kinda stale and I think the Grimnir looks shit.

You are correct. The Scinari are the generic light mages of the Lumineth, basically everyone uses light magic by default unless they're aligned with one of the elemental tables.

The Zenith guys are more like ultimate grand masters who have ascended to the very top of the progression ladder, they're supposed to be extremely rare and powerful.
>>

So what element even is zenith? Hurakan is wind, alarith is stone/mountains, ydrilans are rivers, is zenith fire or light itself or what's going on there? It's not entirely clear (heh) to me.

I buy and know others that do it as well, and I play the new warbands in 1.0 using the old rival decks (that most were out of stock less than 1 year after release). I don't buy the new rival decks for 2.0. (when I bother to play 2.0 I just use the decks from the big boxes).

Not him, but the old designer left and last year a new designer was contracted but he is not necessarily working on Warcry (also you wouldn't green light a new hire to take over a project without supervision)

>and one might be halflings for CoS?

I know some people have expressed frustration about Cities becoming "fantasy imperial guard" but I would actually really like a halfling warband of some kind, plus some more halfling rep in Cities. I've always liked the old human-ogre-halfling dynamic that Empire used to have in WHFB.

Speaking of ogors, would be nice to get a monstrous infantry unit of them for Cities some day. Something in the style of the War Hulk, but without the tower on the back. Maybe with the option to take mauls & tower shields or greatmauls.

I think Warcry is probably going to have something happen to it in the same way Kill Team did back in like, 2020-2021. A massive overhaul of the whole system from the ground up, basically.
>>
>>97738356
Are there any halfling units in tow?
>>
>>97738362
Hopefully not too much. I love Warcry's system
>>
>>97738356
Halflings aren't back in TOW yet.
>>
>>97738369
No. There was barely ever any official halfling models period, which is one of the reasons that getting Halflings in AoS would be interesting.
>>
>>97738380
There was some dogs of war stuff wasn't there?
But yeah I'd like to see CoS halflings. If they get ogres and gargants, it makes sense for them to get some smaller humanoids too.
I'd also like to see them bring back dwarfs and elfs into the fold in some capacity, some dwarf ironweld engineers, some elf scouts or outriders, stuff like that. The whole alliance nature of cos was cool, I understand that the range was mostly just a mismash of units from whfb they were keeping around so those players had a reason to try aos, but still I thought it was an interesting angle in the end.
>>
>>97738369
just jumping into this convo, there are companies that makes tons of halfling models, entire armies of them with different themes, that you could use for proxies

>>
>>97738432

>>
>>97738354
The people expressing frustration can get fucked
There isn't a single 'normal civilized human' army. They bitch and whine they can't have some dwarf/elf/human mix while dwarfs have two armies and elves fucking FOUR. Plus, the whining about the lose of 'dwarfs/elves/humans cooperating together' has never been realized in the rules, even in the original release, so whining that it doesn't happen or that it would be lost is also retarded. Normal, non chaos worshipping humans deserve an army of their own.
>>
>>97738547
Must we have this argument every time? Just give them each a token unit. Ironweld engineer and idk Wildercorps Swifthooves™ or some shit. Problem solved.

If you have both base boxes (embergard & spitewood) you have 6 decks. If he want to play competitive he can use those. And if I m not mistaken 3 of those are broken and the people engaged in the game bitch about some cards asking for bans.

Also old edition had way more decks and those sold really well (If i m not mistaken they had 9 or 10 in old edition while in 2.0 there are 4 or 5 so far)(also on Ebay old decks still sell really well). So the "GWS is using decks sales to see how well the game sells" is a retarded take, at best they can use the sales of new decks to see how well 2.0 is being received (and if rumors about they going to 3.0 is true then they def saw they fucked up).

AoS launched with no fluff save Stormcasts exist, Chaos won, and disparate peoples of various races from WHF were unified as refugees in Azyr.
AoS' first narrative developments and the beginning of world building was that these refugees have begun to colonise the post apocalyptic world as cosmopolitan cities.
AoS is now WHF-lite, the Astra Militarum is composed of humans with a few human offshoots like Ogors.

Bring back the warcry and underworlds bands for them, as well as the chaos warshrine
allow them to also pick the god-aligned marauder-type units
all as long as there's a core of normal darkoath

make their rules about how the presence of various different tribes fosters their competition under the gaze of the gods, allowing more and more of them to rack up bonus for actions or ascend to demonhood or turn into spawns
give many of their units a degree of ranged attacks from throwing weapons, bows, or small spells, and plenty of shenanigans about coming out of nowhere from scenery pieces and sides of the board

Played that game last night. Opponent brought his skaven. Ended up being a really fun game, even though I'm still learning spearhead as a system.
I made some blunders (forgetting that sticky objectives are always a thing and misplaying some of the commands) but that's okay.
The demonic power points system is really fun for the spearhead. I remember in the army rule proper you get a number based on certain units like Tsons' cabal points, but the number being based on rounds this time is really simple and I like it for this game mode.

Gonna post some fun moments and stuff I remember.

He sent his rats forward to counter and they got mostly cleaned up by the dominator engine and the 5man chorf unit they went into, taking out like 1 chorf in the process. Funny enough the dominator engine did more to them in melee than in shooting despite being the gun variant (I built maces but it's the gun model in play)

Last one I'm gonna post, don't want to spam. When his ogres and reinforcements came in, he tried to send each one after the middle objective for some really good tactic points, but every charge failed despite being an average roll of around 6-7 to succeed. It was a tough time for the rats this turn.

Despite this the rats eeked out the victory ending the game 16-14 in rat favor. It was super fun but I just got caught up in combats I couldn't leave and the rats had the numbers game in their advantage I couldn't catch up to.

And yeah no TOW at Adepticon so we can expect the warriors to be revealed within 2-3 weeks now that they removed the battalion from the webstore. I assume the new models will be put in an evergreen battalion box like the first Cathay box to replace the old one.
>>
What should I build my verminlord as, I like lord skreech for lore shit. But the deceiver also looks amazing
Warpseer would fit my the rest of my skryre army though, but it's mostly just a painting project
>>
>>97740900
According to a retailer, GW thought the original Cathay Battalion box was too good a dea,l so they had to change it
>>
>>97740978
Lmao that sounds enough like GW that I believe it. The battalion boxes usually follow a 3 kit formula where you get 3 kits for the cost of slightly more than 2 kits. The current Cathay evergreen battalion was slightly better, offering 3.5 kits for the same price as slightly over 2. Because the Jade warriors normally sell in boxes of 20, but you get 30 of them in the battalion.
>>
>>97740956
I thought verminlords were very specific keyword bingo type units, so if your army is mostly skryre I'd build the skryre option, as then at least you'll be able to bring it when you feel like it and it won't feel like dead weight.
Alternatively I doubt anyone would be able to tell the different versions apart, and even then they're not likely to take issue with a proxy (I certainly wouldn't) so probably just build whatever you think is coolest lmao.
>>97740978
I just did the math and assuming it's also €150 like the other battalions that's a pretty great discount yeah, works out to like €242 if everything gets bought separately so like a 38% discount. Which is not too crazy in and of itself, quite a few spearheads also reach that amount of value, but it being all new plastic at that amount of discount is relatively rare.
I'd imagine a new reshuffled discount box would be worse value, it almost always is with gw. Compare the old vs new ogre spearhead for example.
