>>97754599Do you use presupported files? I have the suspicion that many creators just hit auto support anyway when they create those, including some self proclaimed "pros".And I had presupports fail often enough in the past.
Am I paranoid in thinking that this looks AI generated?
>>97754898No, you aren't. But even if it isn't, it looks extremely generic DnDslop.
>>97754909WoWslop, D&D orcs used to look far different.
Got my printer running and did fairly well for a first run.4 models printed fine, no issues, 3 didn't print at all, i suspect i didn't level properly the plate but i'm taking any advice of more experienced anons here.
>>97755044used to
>>97755067>i suspect i didn't level properly the plateSo level the plate? How are we supposed to give you advice on failures when you don't tell us what failed (and how)?
>>97755067Maybe it's the temperature too?
>>97755262In that case all the prints would fail, at least partially.
>>97755251The minis on one side printed, the minis on the other side didn't, not even the first base layers. That's it. I was asking if maybe i was wrong and i made a glaring noob mistake that doesn't let prints to even start.Tonight i'll try to level again and let it print overnight.
>>97755301Don't modern printers have autoleveling?
>>97754843Presupports only. I don't have time or patience to bother with it. And why would I, when someone else already did it for me. Failure rate is minimal for me, so I never had a reason to even try doing supports myself. I'm just a lazy fuck, and it works.
>>97755311>and it worksSo do autosupports, most of the time.
I am here to ask again if anyone got Fabelzel chaos dwarves/hobgoblins.All I'm finding is that the drive was taken down.
Anyone can point me to why this print is getting so deformed? The top part is perfect but the bottom is awful. I've used this same printer and resin a lot so I don't know why it's happening to this model in particular.
>>97755610That thing is massive, so its weight might be the problem. Why not print that with FDM?
>>97755663I don't have an FDM printer and the print lines are really bad. Do you know how to hollow it out in lychee?
>>97755314If presupports at worst are just autosupports, and at best are handmade by someone who knows what he was doing - why would I bother with autosupports myself?
>>97755729At worst it's not autosupports, it's autosupports that don't work. Unless you are using the same printer as the person doing the supports, with the same resin, at the same temperature, you might get different (worse) results.
>>97755752Yeah, whatever tho. It works for me, so I won't change anything about it.

>>97756976Should have replaced that FEP when it told you so.
>>97756991You might be able to soften it with hot water and get if off, the problem is doing so without damaging it.
>>97754843i hate presupported files. the convenience is nice but nobody knows how to properly support shit. even the "good" ones like nomnom use tips too big for my preference and leave scars and are a relative bitch to pull off. when I support things myself there's never any scars and my two year old could pull the supports off they're so easily removed. never have to sand anything when I do it myself, have to sand 95% of the time when I use presupported files. and fuck autos completely
>>9775506790% of "didn't print at all" failures are because of shitty supports ime. were there chunks of semi cured resin sitting in your vat when you finished? if so it's definitely a support issue. if there's nothing in the vat at all then you had adhesion issues which is either because of temperature or exposure settings
>>97755299not necessarily unless they're the exact same print. weight, shape and orientation make a big difference in how well something will print.hell, you can even have the same exact print succeed and fail on the same plate during the same print because the suction force applies unevenly around the plate, that also changes depending on how you arrange the prints. this is why identifying the cause of your failure requires a lot of experience or guessing

My printer is out of commission and I won't be replacing it until summer (UK time). Does anyone know of a miniature printing service in the UK that doesn't charge retarded amounts? I've got some Mordian's I want to print.
>>97759754>doesn't charge retarded amountshow much they charge in UK? in my shithole it's 15-30 jewro cents per gram of resin, and I doubt that any of them are paying taxes, obviously. I might even start my own service as a side hustle.

>>97755610probably the print is being warped by the suction forces when trying to pull big areas of resin from the release film. You can try and mitigate by changing the orientation to reduce the cross-sectional area being printed each layer, increase your rest after retract value and maybe adding stronger supports along the straight edges that are currently warping.Hollowing is a last resort desu, it's such a pain in the fucking ass

mz2450 is a miracle. For years he produces thousands of miniatures without getting better.
>>97769051It is very strange to me. Everyone on reddit and in other communities sucks him off endlessly. It's nice because his shit is free and good for beginners, but my god are his models actually poo. There's much better free creators out there like Yasashii Kyojin who makes the same sort of stuff (D&D Monster Manual shit) but without looking like a PS1 character.
>>97769608He also adds bases to all models which is stupid and annoying. Schlossbauer has also been doing free stuff for years, one of the best purple worms. He has a certain style, though, which it's not great for everything.
>>97768885I do both because the moon and sun are free and I'm in no rush. I'll take them when I want to paint them.

>>97772598>be FDM chad>reflexively utter the phrase "it looks fine from tabletop distance" whenever anyone picks up your models
>>97772598FDM printers are so damn fussy, though. I decided I wanted to try out a .25 nozzle today instead of the .4, and clogged it up immediately. Did some googling and found one comment on one reddit thread that figured out that you have to change the setting on the printer itself, instead of just loading up the preset. This was easily like an hour of trying to figure out what the fuck was going on, because even though literally everything from flowrate to speed to density is controlled in the slicer, and even though there are exact presets for the nozzle size with certain layer line heights, you need to change a setting on the machine too. Damn thing's still clicking after ripping the extruder apart twice, too, so now I have to wait until this print is done and try retensioning the timing belts, and in the end I might end up just replacing the extruder entirely because it grinds on the first push. I'm ultimately waiting until Bambu comes out with a decently priced tool changer, and then this girl's getting loaded up with 4 kilograms of silk and never-ending fidget duty.
>>97773413FDM minis besides like vehicles (and them only sometimes) look like SHIT yeaFDM is just not good for minis
>>97774407how did you do that to your printermine worked with a 0.2mm right out of the box and I only got a clog after it sat idle for a week with the filament still attached, and it was able to unclog itself without needing to dismantle the hot end or using the needles. my old filament printer was a total bitch, clogs were a regular occurrence, every axis wobbled, and the belts started splitting apart but the new one has been so perfect
Does anybody have any leads on the old 3d printable kingdom death showdown board files? The official one is perpetually out of stock, and I'd rather just print one myself at this point. I think it was done by axolotegaming
>>97774407As a professional machinist, i wprked with lots of finicky, shitty, and partially broken cnc machines, and not even the green crt machines from the 80s were nearly as much of a pain in the ass as an fdm printer. They even run off of the same gcode. For some reason theres this linux mindset surrounding them where nothing the manufacturer says actually works to their specifications and you constantly have to fuck around with settings and the various parts of the machine to just get it to function properly. They're still built with the assumption that the end user is going to fuck around with them non stop
>>97772598yeah FDM is great for dorks who live with their mom still
The best option is owning both a filament and a resin printer.
Does anyone know if the Man O War proxy files are still out there?
>>97777427This, each of them has their specific field in which they excel
>>97772598You don't actually need 99% isopropyl to clean up resin (plenty of us don't); it's just what manufacturers keep recommending, so newcomers assume it's the only thing you can use.
>>97778193Speaking for my locale only; it's far cheaper to source 99-100% IPA from a local supply store. It's actually more costly to find the diluted versions because almost invariably they're gimmicky store brands; Isocol Rubbing Alcohol for example is 64% by volume and it costs an arm and a dick ($10-$15 for not even half a litre) while I can go to a local plumbing supply shop and buy a five litre drum for $25. Also it's an additional factor of uncertainty; if you're buying 70% isopropyl and they don't list the other notable components even on an SDS sheet can you be sure of what interaction you're getting when you use it?TL;DR, save yourself the pain and just buy 99-100% IPA from a reliable supply shop. It's often cheaper and inherently more reliable than buying whatever the fuck frankensteined together concoction other stores are shilling.
>>97778384Aren't there some countries where it's impossible to legally buy stuff like 99+ IPA?
>>97778406Highly dubious of that, but if you do live in such a place then obviously you gotta operate within your local laws. IPA is a pretty widely available chemical though; if you can't easily source it from storefronts you can 100% source it from regional suppliers because that shit is used everywhere for business purposes. Researchers, cleaners, ten thousand other little niches that all need it for some purpose and they're not going to be buying the publically available diluted shit that's got a 300% markup on it.When in doubt just google for local sources of >99% isopropyl alcohol; you'll usually get a hit from a local scientific supplier and while they sometimes require a little bit more effort to buy from (calling up and setting up an account for example), it's still preferable to paying extra for an inferior usecase product.
>>97776496>how did you do that to your printer Some shit got stuck in the pusher gears and it's never quite been the same ever since. It's a flash forge ad5x, and it's such a pain in the ass that the facebook group for the machine had to censor the word "Bambu" because like half of the posts were just bitching about the fucking thing.>>97776715I think it's because the tech is moving so fast with them, they don't have quite as much time to troubleshoot and test every facet. The ad5x came out last year with cheap multicolor as its big feature, but it wastes so much filament and the only fix for the color bleed is increasing the size of the purge, tower so you waste even MORE filament, meanwhile you're sitting here with a 9-hour model for your wife that looks more red panda than fox because one post on reddit said you kill the color bleed by increasing the flush to 800 from black to orange, and you didn't see the 20 posts on facebook all saying that you need a bigger purge tower. And now next month they're coming out with a tool changer, so all of this goes out the window.
>>97776715That assumption only exists because the way they make them requires it, it's a feedback loop.
>>97778816Maybe because I've been using a shitty ender 3 for the last 7 years, but when I got a bambu a1 everything just worked really easyDefault settings on everything and it just goesI can't help but believe people who have issues with fdm printers are just retards.I printed this on a bambu a1 with a 0.2mm nozzle with grey pla+
>>97780435That's nice. I can print that on the cheapest SLA/DLP without aftermarket parts and get no print lines.
>>97780498It's not just the print lines. Fiddly FDM minis are more prone to breaking than resin ones.It would have been better to keep a trusty old Ender 3 for terrain and general purpose stuff and get a decent resin printer instead. A Mars 5 Ultra or something similar costs about as much as a Bambu A1.
>>97781061Agreed, and you get better results with standard resins, switch to stronger and or flexible resins and that greatly improves.
>>97781061>>97780498I don't want to deal with resin
>>97781770Then buy minis, else you'll NEVER stop hearing about your print lines.
>>97781830I don't really hear about them now
>>97777427I was going to buy an FDM printer then realized I would literally only use it for terrain and decided not to. I guess if you're the kind of DIY guy who needs a bunch of arbitrarily shaped plastics all the time it'd be worth it, but I'm not
>>97778384I'm sure that guy was probably talking about using something like denatured alcohol, ethanol, degreaser like Mean Green or etc. Most of which tend to be cheaper than isopropyl and work just as well.
>>97782533Mine mostly does parts/prototyping. Buildings and vehicles are its main gaming use but it's nice to be able to pump out bases while the other printer is doing minis.
>>97783299FDM bases suck, I mostly use that printer for non-gaming stuff.
>>97782575Local pricing will make things vary. Mean Green costs $10 a litre, denatured alcohol is $15 a litre, ethanol is the same price. Getting IPA for $5 a litre at 99~% dilution remains the best deal where I am, somehow.
Are fdm minis shit? What are the best sla printers on the market for minis at the moment?
>>97785023>Are fdm minis shit?many people who are snobs for quality or haven't used modern FDM will say yes, but while it's not resin quality, it is not "shit" either. See the OP image.>What are the best sla printers on the market for minis at the moment?literally any resin printer in the past few years can print miniatures that far exceeds the detail of injection molding. High end home printers right now are completely overkill.
>>97785023Depends where you fall on the complex axis of model fidelity versus print time against cost and effort involved. Resin remains the best option if you want really high quality miniatures with retarded levels of detail that realistically a lot of people might not even be able to see. You sacrifice a comparative chunk of time in post processing them though and there's a bunch of nasty pitfalls like when they have hollows of uncured resin inside them.FDM comparatively is for people who don't really care about that high level of detail; maybe they're printing stuff that simply doesn't have detail or they prefer simpler model geometries.Ask yourself how much the high detail of miniatures matters to you and whether you're willing to devote the extra effort of postprocessing your prints with wash cycles etc. If you don't really give a fuck about the fidelity and cannot be fucked putting up with the effort, FDM might be an option. Alternatively you could wait another couple years until the technology advances even further and knocks the sharp corners off of all the above issues.
>>97785023>FDM shitIt's perfectly fine (and probably preferable) for terrain and vehicles / larger bits. I use it for 28mm scale minis. At the end of the day its a kids game and FDM minis paint fine. It's nice to be able to knock out an army for 5 or 10 bucks.
>>97785023If you want absolute detail and quality, use resin.
>>97754898The chainmail looks extremely AI, with the inconsistent size of the rings and how many aren't even round. Especially the inner skirt and on the sleeve.
>>97782533Honestly I mostly use mine for cosplay stuff and the occasional bespoke box for electronics and stands for models
>>97782575IPA price is not a big deal, you can waste very little of it as you can use it multiple times before it starts becoming a sludge>first wash in a 0.5l pickle jar>second wash 5 minutes in 3l washer>neutralizing bath with hot water to get rid of IPA and to break supports easilyI also recycle most of my IPA when it start getting dirty, just put the container under UV light and filter off the resin precipitate with a coffe filter and boom: 99% clean IPA. The second or third time it gets recycled i start using it for the first dirty bath only, the big washer vat gets replaced much less often this way as it sees very little resin.
What the hell is "PLA plus" anyway?
>>97785926It's for guns and, I guess, higher impact applications. It's slightly more resistent to impact damage, higher melting point, and overall more sturdy.
>>97780435>Everyone else is a retard. My old printer was just shit. Is this the sort of dude that hangs out at an lgs?
>>97786838I don't see what's wrong with the ender3, I own one and it works great, I'm also one of tge anons being vocal about FDM being stupid for minis.Hammers pound nails, drills drive screws, you don't use a hammer for screws, to each tool; it's job.
>>97785129>If you want cancer and immune system problems, use resin.
>>97786962GW fearmongers aren't welcome here.Tell your bosses to get with the times, now is the era of at-home manufacture.
>>97768885The moon has special powers.
>>97786984You're going to fuck your life up forever to save 50% on plastic minis>Oh no, why am I suddenly allergic to every plastic object in my house? That'll be you one day, wondering why the plastic your tendies come in is starting to give you a rash. Here are some of my prints on my old Ender 3, with a regular 0.4mm nozzle. They haven't caused me any problems while I play games.
>>97787037I can see why your quality aceptance is so low, it matches your lack of painting skill.
>>97787037Anon, I can see the resin support scars on the barrel of that warhammer.
>>97787045>>97787050lol, okay, I'm just going to keep playing games with my FDM prints, haha, I know I know, the aren't golden demon winners, but I just love playing games
>>97787053>turn off antialiasing>increase layer height>look they're fdm! It's really sad when you need to use the worst quality resin prints to try pretending fdm is okay.
>>97787061Thank you for the compliment, it's super funny you truly thought my FDM prints are resin
>>97787084>you have to make resin prints shittier than even default settingsto pretend they're fdmYou're delusional.
>>97787100They're FDM prints so... This is wild, you don't even understand how you've completely lost this argument by admitting you think these FDM prints are resin
>>97787105Your argument is that they're "good" but you've had to intentionally tune your printer to make chunky lined trash to gaslight people into thinking fdm cant even approach shitty default resin settings AT BEST
>>97787140So you think someone purposely detuned a resin printer, printed minis on a resin printer, then used those minis to defend FDM?Why would anyone do that?
>>97787160Because the alternative is you admitting that it's retarded to print shit quality minis in FDM rather than using the right tool for the job.
>>97787174The alternative is that you realize FDM got better in the last 10 years. Here are more of my FDM prints
>>97787218Nice "invisible" layer lines. It's nice for a FDM print, but even my first generation Photon has a better quality.
>>97787253I don't think you really understand what we've been talking about
>>97787218It doesn't matter how much better it has become, your layer lines are still obvious and the physics of fdm supports requires you to optimize an stl specifically for it even when using resin style supports. That optimization and support process is far more time consuming and effort than resin post-processing, that on top of a 2-3 hour batch for resin needing to be done 1 at a time for fdm each single mini now taking 10-24 hours a piece. After all that extra time and effort you still end up with something shittier than resin. And just look at those robots, youve upscaled the fuck out of them, they all overhang their bases like crazy on every side.
>>97785085That was really helpful. I'm pretty sure I want to get an FDM printer now as I don't think I'd want to deal with all the extra post-print effort with resin, plus having a baby in the house means I'm extra safety conscious with all the ventilation and shit you need.I've read some stuff about FDM printing getting to resin quality by using different tricks like printing the pieces at an angle or something, to limit the print line visibility? It also seems like just using a really small nozzle gives better results, even if the printing time is increased by a fair bit.
>>97787304>ventilation and shit you need.Anon did VOC testing awhile back, cooking and glade plugins are more harmful to air quality.
>>97787304Yah, you'll want a 0.2mm nozzle, and get a printer with flow control sensors, and a autoleveling bedUse a decent PLA+ filament because it's much better than PLADo tree supports, and slow the printer down a bit compared to the default settings
>>97787292The layer lines are covered up decently by primer because they're so small when you use 60 micron layersYou forgot to mention how FDM prints are cheaper>And just look at those robots, youve upscaled the fuck out of them, they all overhang their bases like crazy on every side. They're pretty much the same size as a real killa kaan
>>97787304Depending on how much you want to go into the weeds or not, there's printers that handle 95% of the minutiae for you. I have an A1 Mini that I got on deep discount and aside from importing someone else's print settings and altering like five variables it was as plug and play as you can get in an FDM printer I think.0.2 nozzle is currently the best on the market and will help with your print fidelity. You can do additional stuff to try and improve some of the surface finishes but my biggest tip is simply to give it a clearcoat of varnish. One or two thin coats will knock off almost all the visible layer lines once you put down your basecoat ontop of it.>>97787292NTA but I literally never optimise my prints nor fuck with anything but auto supports. My postprocessing is maybe 5~ minutes of removing the autosupports and the occasional bit of nipper work. I can't imagine resin postprocessing is anywhere near that quick, even if you're doing full plate batches.
>>97787353I was talking the other robots. And for shits and giggles Im doing a timber wolf in 60 micron FDM, so far the digital preprocessing took an hour which is already more than resin post-processing.>fdm is also about the same as resin $20-$30 per kilogram for resin bottles and pla spools. The printers are the same price too $150-$300 for entry models of each kind.So cost is equal, but one takes an assload more time.
>>97787431PLA spools often go for $12And Resin take more active time
>>97787465>Resin take more active timeNo, So far the printing is esrimated by the machine at 6 times longer than resin. the pre-processing was 4 times longer, and while post wont involve 10 minutes of wash and cure, ill have to manually snip all supports as i cant just dunk it in boiling water to remove those. And then I have to keep the thing away from high heat thatll melt it, like direct sunlight or leaving it in the truck while transporting in summer.
>>97787465Cheap PLA is worse than cheap resin, drying and cracking can fail a print and make the whole spool trash.
>>97787482>So far the printing is esrimated by the machine at 6 times longer than resin.>active timeWhy are you retarded?
>>97787486sunlu pla+ is great and it costs $13 a spool, less if you buy a 4 pack ( $11 or $12)
>>97787496So buying cheap trash makes minis 15 cents a piece instead of 30, big fucking deal. Even expensive resin is more than ten times cheaper than buting minis.Tgere is no argument for using your hammer to pound screws instead of a drill.
>>97787488Digital preprocessing here is manually supporting the fucking thing, and then formatting the file so the slicer doesnt fuck with those supports, youre the retard
>>97787573There are plenty of arguments- I don't care that the minis don't look as good as official stuff- I prefer not to deal with resin, it's multi-step post processing, nor the protective equipment required to touch it- FDM printers are better for basically everything other than miniatures. (stronger, and more options for the material like TPU, PETG, ABS, etc- It's cheaper and safer>>97787580Dude, do you stare at the printer while it prints? It doesn't matter if a resin print takes 6 hours and a FDM print 24(Which isn't even true, a small mini would take like 8 hours even at slow settings)Stop being a retard
>>97787573The screw/nail analogy isn't very good, it's more like a hammer vs a nailgun. The hammer might take more time but you can almost get the same results as the nailgun, the hammer also does other non-nail oriented tasks.
>>97787605>>97787595You are both idiots, likely well poisoners>resin is dangerous!>resin is too high quality!>you dont need better detail than GW plastic!>why do you need a squad in an afternoon?! >>97787658You're a schizo, why would someone defending GW recommend FDM?
>>97787698FDM never gave anyone allergic reactions
>>97787722That's absolutely equal to burning your house down in the night and losing all your worldly posessions and maybe your baby too.If it ever happened. There's verified reports of FDM housefires, but "muh allergies" is all reddit anecdotes.
>>97787713Because you cant pass off filament prints as the Official(tm) minis and thus get away with the crime of playing with them in store or at events, gods forbid you win a painting contest with resin either.
This thread is so dead. Just the same argument each time to bump a bit of engagement. Likely deliberate from the same well poisoners who want everyone to print detectably poor quality and use Telegram so the ruskies can sell GW your IP
>>97787431Aaaand.... print failure! Because you can't do the same sculpts as you can with resin, you need special "FDM optimized" STL's which in addition to the layer lines and these rounded edges, means you have an exponentially smaller selection of printable minis, nonexistent for some games.
>>97787833That print failed because you used resin style trees. So skill issue
>>97787750There are verified reports of resin printers causing housefires. And FDM printers. And toasters. And electric recliners. Electricity causes heat. Story at 11.
>>97787967No, there are no cases of resin printers causing fires, none of the components generate combustion heat, FDM printers do so by design.Faulty household wiring cannot be blamed on an appliance.
>>97787945No, tge supports were fine, ive bent tgem out of the way to show the terrible 0.06mm layer lines and rounding of edges meant to be sharp.Tiny detail caused the failure, because detail resin doesnt blink at stops the fdm dead.
>>97787997Google is free. If it has circuits of any kind, it has the potential for electrical failure that causes a house fire, independent of the grid it's hooked up to.
>>97788208That's apples and oranges, an fdm hot end is a constant fire hazard when CORRECTLY wired.
If it's correctly wired it's not catching fire at all, as the machine has to be able to detect and prevent thermal runaway to be sold legally in the US. All household appliances have to be able to operate normally without the chance for catastrophic failure.
>>97788432>computers never failThey fail more often than household wiring.
>>97788453Why can't resin and FDM get along? Why do you care what other people do, I'm playing games just as well with my FDM prints?
>>97788557I think the biggest issue is that there's literally no other general on 4chan for 3d printing besides this one. It's so versatile beyond just making minis.
>>97788580>there's literally no other general on 4chan for 3d printing besides this one>>>/diy/3dpg/
>>97788674And that is an FDM general, they send people to us for resin.

what is difference between cheap printer
and expensive printer
>>97791739You fucking moron, that's not a printer.
>>97791772Well I guess we found out the difference then huh.
>>97791739>>97791740the price?
>>97791739Dog that is a wash and cure station
why does reflected UV light look so bizarre? I don't know how to even describe it, but I don't think it's a good idea to stare at it either...
>>97791740Typical differences between cheap and expensive resin printers are size, resolution* and extra features like wireless connectivity, an integrated heater or camera, etc.*A small printer might create higher details than bigger models with a higher resolution due to more dots per inch.In my opinion, small printers are the best option for RPG and Wargaming, but in many cases only the bigger versions offer advanced options.
>>97787833>>97788007You literally just use non-presupported files and then use automatic supports. You've managed to show yourself completely fucking biffing it big time through your own ineptitude and lack of familiarity with FDM.
>>97788557>>97788580Tribalism primarily; people want to feel assured that their decision to invest in only one of the platforms is the correct one. This then leads to people on both sides not only doubling and tripling down but developing convoluted views of the opposing side where they either emphasize true shortcomings of the platform or take those shortcomings and explode them to the point of parody. This often takes the form of either side talking about what they use, the other side taking a potshot at them (Evergreen topics are FDM layer lines, resin VOCs, etc.) and then repeatedly prodding at each other with sharp verbal sticks. Even people that wouldn't be normally drawn into this will feel compelled to do so when detractors post sufficiently dumbshit takes of their own platforms. It's like watching two tradesmen talk shit about how gay the other side is for using Milwaukee vs. Dewalt, except about printing little guys to paint instead.
>>97791140Learn to google you fucking inbred niggerfaggot
>>97792841>composite is the same thing as 3d printer resinas i thought, youre an uneducated retard who sees the word resin and thinks he is smart
>>97792862What the fuck do you think 3d resin is if not a mixture of monomers and photoinitiators? Rub those 2 brain cells and think for a moment for fucks sake
>>97792892Again avoiding the word composite and focusing on the resin. I think you'll find resin is a small fraction of the composite and made of material completely different to what you use to print miniatures. But please continue to astound us all with the information you found on a website controlled by the rainbow coalition and present it as fact.
>>97790406They do use a UV-curing resin. But there are more than one of those, even the various types of resin sold for home printer use aren't all the same stuff, so that the dental stuff is safe enough in the way they use it alone isn't much of a guarantee that any given brand of our resin is safe the way we use it.>>97792933For the purpose of this discussion he can actually ignore the word composite there. A composite is simply a mix of two or more materials. In the case of the stuff the dentist uses that article tells us that it's usually a mixture of some photocuring resin and a silica filler. Now if the resin side is horribly toxic then adding some silica to it is highly unlikely to change that, just like adding a few handfuls of resin desiccant beads to a bottle of Elegoo ABS-like is unlikely to unlikely to make that any more or less toxic than it already is. So we can ignore the filler additive here, and thus we're not looking at a composite any more, just one of its components on its own.
>>97793030Well thanks to the resident genius here I am never going to a dentist again. I'll just pop a few drops out of my resin bottle into any hole i find in my teeth with a eye dropper and shine my uv lamp in there for a minute or two. I can use the thousands I save for buying more .stl files instead.
>>97793030I think the precise chemical make up of the resin in question isn't super important, the main harmful elements are the acrylate and aldehyde fumes that are given off over time. The level is pretty low though iircI just can't see a mild irritant and sensitiser as too scary when my other hobby makes use of silver nitrate and glacial acetic acid>>97793030Brush your teeth
whole lot of talk for a bunch of noprints faggotsi've said it before. stop taking advice from 4chan and Reddit. look it up yourself, read the SDS label and be enlightened. you're not smarter than the chemists who got paid to do this
>>97792436Imagine being so poor that you have to pick one over the other. I suspect that these are the same people that buy the cheapest Ender knockoff piece of shit and then complain about FDM printers being finicky.
what is on your printer right now?
>>97794092Nothing, it's still too cold to start printing since I need to keep a window open for ventilation. Gotta wait for a month or 2.

>Muh printer > your printer horseshit again
>>97793799Some people choose to not bother with one because it doesn't fit their usecase. I have FDM but not resin because I don't really wanna bother with the postprocessing and I also am not a huge fan of the materials issues with a lot of resins when it comes to overall strength. You can get resins that aren't susceptible to easy damage but from what I've seen those are a little bit more costly. In another few years I expect resin will have resolved some of it's issues and it'll be a more attractive prospect by then. Same as how FDM is slowly chipping away at it's fidelity issues.
>>97794092I'm trying out different layer heights on a 0.5mm nozzle
Has the price of 3D printers gone up recently? Since tariffs or anything?
>>97792274You can stare at it, its dim
>>97792436I actually really want a resin. My biggest gripe right now is space for the thing, the wash station, and the ventilation. It'd have to go in my battlestation, but I can't really fuck around with the fumes like fdm. It'd have to be ventilated properly instead of using the window-hugger vent I printed and some towels for the cracks, which means leaving my window open 24/7 with a plastic insert in the absolute blackest part of town, and realistically I'd have to shell out some money for a shelving system of some sort. How viable is a tent setup in the backyard on fair-weather days? Get some extension cords running out there and maybe use my off days to set up shop and just print a bunch of anime bitches.
