I have grown very fond of this monopose chaos warrior. Getting more could be fun, but they're surprisingly expensive at around $7 per model and I'd rather spend that kind of money on metal than on plastic. Maybe I'll just use him as a unit champion.

Exactly. Most armies lost their quirks and other stuff from older editions but I feel using Orcs in their current state, while fun and objectively fine, I am using them "unfairly" since they got a buff by losing animosity. Its weird.

Also yes your bull is warhammer coded
>>
>>97786377
I was thinking of that giant wheeled fortress thing some flagellants were pulling, but yea, sorta. The empire has been known to have these over the top impractical machinery things in the background.

The cogfort would not work as a unit. But as a "background element" or even a scenario thing? I think it could be made to fit.

"The mad engineer Diedrich Von Hassel of Nuln envisioned the walking forts for what he believed was the future of imperial defensive warfare. Where rather than having to sally out from their fortresses the men of the empire could patrol their borders from mobile fortifications in safety (and comfort). Unfortunately the scope of his ambition far outstripped his ability, and Diedrich died working on his first (and only) such monstrosity, which now overlooks his home town of Grosshel."

Could have a mission where the imperial defenders try to activate it to help defend against some sort of attacking army or something. Its definetly a dumb design and shouldnt be common, but its exactly the sort of dumb extravagance that could make for a fun "exception" in the setting (much like the original dwarf airship, before they decided thats just "a thing")

If this was judging on artistic merit then of course the soulful scribble is better. But I'm not asking you to judge the artistic merit of the piece, Just the concept in of itself. In which case, the AI is just fine. and you ludites need to get your sticks out of your arses.

In my vision the unit would be far more defensive than offensive, providing armor and wounds to prophetesses, and a good anchor for some cav, while only having one armor peircing poison attack and stomp as an offensive attack. For flavor the one without the prophetess would get impetuous since it is not calmed by a maiden and only has a bunch of stinky peasants on board.

>>97787251
Always liiked the idea that bretonnians had a medley of creatures they tame to ride. Bestiary shenanagans. At least for the particularly daring or rich knightly families. Think it plays into both thier knightly rider shtich and their vaguely semi-pagan dedication to the lady and her association with nature and fey creatures.

agreed on the idea of a bigger bretonnian bestiary, In a lot of my concepts I try to keep to a mounted theme, and instead of going for raw power I try to keep grail knights as the top teir hammer option, and Instead look for ways to support them or bake in special rules that can help smaller utility pieces act more independently without relying on raw stats.

Because every chaos champion is a selfish dickhead more concerned with personal advancement and glory rather than any sort of wider goal beyond themselves?

Only if you think the goals of chaos champions and the goals of chaos gods (insofar as the chaos gods have real goals) are aligned. They arent.

Chaos champions are in it to get noticed by their patron/chaos at large and become an immortal demigod. They arent blowing up the world out of some ideological dislike for the world, theyre doing it because blowing up the world is how you get attention and subsequent rewards. If they have to choose between blowing up the world "as a faction" and getting personal glory? Their rational self interest is in the latter, because the average chaos warrior has very little ideological motivation "for the cause", hes there to get exposure and cred.

This naturally makes chaos armies often self defeating, because the interest of the gods (ostensibly "have people conquer the world as part of the great game") and the interest of those actual people (have senpai make you a demon prince) conflict, because the chaos gods will also notice you for teamkilling, and making your way up the totem pole is often more relevant than actually "getting shit done" in the grand scheme of things.
>>
>>97789750
>poorfag bragging about being poor
impressive, now let the actual humans talk in peace
>>
>>97789705
Chaos warriors are not quite as bad as skaven, which is what you're describing. If you as a leader show weakness or start leading the men to failure, you're probably getting overthrown either through a duel challenge or a treacherous coup. If you are running a tight ship and have a string of victories backing you up, you SHOULD be fine. Sure there's a risk some overly ambitious upstart will come to the conclusion that he'll get more attention from the gods by overthrowing you. but the vast majority of members will come to the reasonable conclusion that they're better off farming glory from enemies under a competent leader.

If you happen to have a tzeentchian bitch in your ranks though all bets are off though.

Theyre not as bad as skaven, but thats mostly because theyre less neurotic. The actual dynamics at play are very similar for the most part.

>If you are running a tight ship and have a string of victories backing you up, you SHOULD be fine
Of course. But thats largely because if you are strong and bring in victories the self interest of your various underlings is in following you. Both because they cant defeat you and because you provide good sources of glory and favor from the dark gods.

>but the vast majority of members will come to the reasonable conclusion that they're better off farming glory from enemies under a competent leader.
Of course, which is where the main difference with skaven (and greenskins) lies.

This isnt to say there are NO true believers in chaos, that's not true. Obviously they exist. But the worship of chaos is fundamentally rather transactional and ends oriented and the path of a chaos champion is fundamentally selfish and destructive towards others. Thats what makes everchosen so dangerous in the first place, thats their REAL power (beyond "really big chaos lord"), the ability to actually unite the various warbands under one vaguely ideological banner for a unified goal.

Thoughts on bringing the chalice of dark rain (via shaggoth) in a chaos warrior list? Seems very strong for closing the distance with gunlines.

275 points + being forced to take a regular dogre (for a total of, at minimum, 334 pts) is a bit steep for a single turn of locking your opponent out of cannons and halving his other missile weapons' ranges. If your opponents always bring full gunlines it might be ok, but it probably won't help that much.

Its a cool concept but the design is total dogshit, like absolute shit. So shit its actually insulting you'd pay the bazillion dollars GW is going to charge for this.

The stonework is massive, its draped organically over metal and it just looks like someones mashed a fisher price toy onto a 40k demon engine

God damn had a fun battle, Me and a buddy teamed up to run all cavalry into some orcs.

only about 2 knights and 10 orcs survived the battle. The only knights that did survive were the bretonnian battle standard and a random knights panther. almost nothing fled, everything just grounded down in combat, the grail knights and the blorcs just killed each other off until only the heroes in each respective units were left. Major orc victory, but a glorious end anyways.

Genuine question, if you want vampire counts why dont you just make them yourself? Personally i've always found gws intepretation of them SEVERELY lacking, I think the only way I could pleased is if the skeletons were just straight up naked and they had mixed races of undead. The only other alternative would be something like this reddit post where someone is making their own undead so thats its visually different from your stock undead.

>>

>>
>>97792249
According to my math, a tray that lets me rank 5 dudes on 25mm bases would be 13,5cm wide. That's reasonable, I hope. I think the biggest offender will be Crypt Horrors since I still want to base those on 50mm bases so the footprint goes from 120mm wide to 150mm.
Anyway, any tips on how I should rank my ghouls? I want to build a 1000pts army and I was considering clumping all 30 ghouls into a single 6x5 unit. Should I go with two 5x3 units instead?

Nothing too fancy really since I want to keep it thematic. I still have to choose wizard levels and magic items.

Vampire Counts [984 pts]
Warhammer: The Old World, Vampire Counts, Combined Arms

Strigoi Ghoul King, Level 1 Wizard, General, On foot, Battle Magic - 175
Necromantic Acolyte, Wizard [Level 1 Wizard], On foot, Dark Magic - 60

30 Crypt Ghouls, Crypt Ghast - 276

3 Vargheists, Wicked claws, Vargoyle - 190

Sure here you go. Start with bugman > reikland fleshshade > layer of bugman. After that I use cadian flesh, blackert brown (Scale75 it's something like softer bugman with light chestnut pigment) and harvester flesh (Scale75, however rose flesh from vallejo would also do the job). I unevenly mix three of them and stipple all over the skin. Brighter on the raised parts, less bright in the crevices. After you're happy with the effect mix carroburg crimson with medium 1:2 and stipple it all over the edges and wherever you think skin would be irritated. Follow up with druchi violet with medium in 1:3 covering only a few spots previously toned down with crimson. In the end mix Harvester flesh with kislev flesh to add a few very diluted highlights here and there. Sure it's chaotic and all about the vibes, but I can't describe it better than that.

Considering the recent rumors? Dark elves.
Since they don't really need a refresh like other armies, I wonder if they'll just make entirely new units made from new lore, or maybe they'll just make new witch elves that are a polar opposite of the new look they just gave them in AoS?
>>
>>97793104
More than likely they’ll be a shared kit. Just like the cauldron. As for new stuff, who knows. The kraken lord isn’t active in tows current time period unless they want to retcon that to include him, but maybe a chimera lord or whatever that shitty monster mount they had was instead?

I know it's a low effort bait but there are so many people who actually think like that it's really confusing. So what? Have you painted anything lately? Finished that unit or army project? Maybe played some games? Why is that some of you here can't stand even a month without a company showing you something new to buy. Besides that, and to a degree I'm also guilty of buying models in advance for some projects, there's a whole fuckton of space to enjoy the hobby. I would ask what edition you played and liked the most before ToW. But for some reason I get a feeling that most people like you jumped into the hobby in the last few years, didn't even finish a single army, and your interpretation of it is to buy more stuff and talk shit about it without even experiencing any other aspect than playing with some randos in LGS.

Second Old world rpg session. Switched systems to Barbarians of lemuria because I am a fickle bitch who wants to test different systems.

1/2
>Left off learning about the noble family, the Grafholts who bought the perfume that one of the scheming cowled figures had.
>in downtime my noisy watchman and kister sketchy watchmen pooled their resources to buy a scent hound. Which was an absolute steal, an elven breed a noble looking giant schnauser with a beard.
>Our brewgaurd companion set to work with barbarians of Lemuria's alchemy system and succeeded in making 3 lagers that help with social stealth
> First attempted to sniff outside of the Grafholts estate during mid day, but there was too much activity going on and if there was any scent, it was covered over by the hustle and bustle, one of the estate guards got suspicious and told us off.
>I decided to get in contact with an amicable rival of my nosy gaurdsman a priest-judge of Verena. We started off arguing on some inane legal technicality, but after that I admitted my suspicion of the Grafholts. He thought it was bad news, but had to give credit to my dedication to the truth, he told me about a hush-hush but technically public event where a marriage between a grafholdt and an elven craftsman was being planned out. At an exotic restaurant serving Lustrian delicacies.
>we went to sleep and when we woke up a gaurdsmen party was suspiciously killed, someone who patrolled a similar route to us when we stumbled upon the dark conclave. Gulp.
>Next day we went to that restaurant and meandered outside, taking some swigs of the special dwarven lager that made us extra inconspicuous in this more recreational district.
>the others wanted to wait outside with the dog until whatever elf business was done with and we could potentially follow the scent of whichever Grafholt we were after, but me being a nosy fuck tried, and succeeded to get in.
cont.
>>
>>97793484
2/2
>From what I could pick up with my big ears, The elven craftsman talked about the wedding very nonchalantly. Got the sense that he saw the lovesick Grafholt girl as little more than an entertaining pet who he knew would die before he lost interest with the petty lifespan of the lesser races. And besides, It allowed him to expand his powerbase beyond the local lords court. Maybe Karazan was right about Elven Stereotypes.... but fascinating insight into the elven psyche nonetheless.
>When the Grafholdts started filing out, Our dog picked up that mysterious scent and we followed another couple to a brewery... The RIVAL brewery of Karazan's employer. That was when he recognized one of the figures, an old dowageress of the Grafholts who spent much of her time investing and managing the brewery
>We hid our faces a bit and went into the brewery to get another drink, on My third and was getting woozy. Karazan grumbled that their beer here was amateurish and too bitter. Gotfried just liked getting more drunk.
>We saw the two enter the backrooms and we followed, they went into an office room and locked the door. They started smooching and I head a young masculine voice, you guess the mistress has a young gigolo, they also start discussing about the night of the conclave and how the "two eye colored ratman dropped the ball by letting their "visitors" get away (us) and how they should bring that up next they meet.
>They leave the office for the public room and we sneak in, finding a singed piece of paper in the fireplace with scratchy writing saying "1:30 at the dock-ship place". Karazan also finds a particularly fine dough starter and reasons that the brewery wouldn't mind if he took some.
>We escape through a window, but are ambushed by two night runners and a gutter runner.
>They manage to land a poison knife on Karazen, but we dispatch them.
>Find two similar papers on the ratmen. We plan to bring to the watch captain and set up a sting operation.

Okay, Since you guys loved the last concept so much, i came up with a new bretonnian peasant hero idea

Peasant Shepherdess
She's not a witch, though she sure looks like one, the peasants assure you she isn't a witch, because look its not a pointy hat, its just a hood, and its not a broom, just a crook, so don't worry about it.
Can't take a mount, Only option is to take a small but ferocious dog (counts as extra hand weapon) a level 1, can't get level 2, she doesn't know any lores as she cannot read, just has access to the shepherds cult lore that has 2 signatures, A hex, and an enchantment and a conveyance, and cannot add their wizard level to dispel attempts.
The hex, Hounds Howl, 24" last until start of the shepherdess next command phase, target enemy mounted unit must make a fear test if it declares a charge 9+, or a terror test if cast on a 11+
The enchantment, Away to me, 12" range Target Allied mounted unit gains drill until end of turn 10+
The conveyance, That'll do, 24" range Target allied mounted unit not in combat can immediately reform, may move directly towards the caster up to its max movement, and then reform again. 9+, on a 12+ the unit can march but still has to move directly towards the caster.

These aren't well thought out spells, just off the cuff concepts of the sort of spells and flavor i think she'd bring.
She has all the other peasant rules, knights will not care if she dies, and would probably prefer it.
And this harkens back to the old lore about how dangerous shepherding could be in Carcasonne and Brionne.

Love a good knight.
What's the final scheme, purple and white?
>>
>>97797112
Grey and dark grey, with a splash of purple, kind of a subdued knight, but i have a bunch of other louder painted knights so it'll balance out and provide contrast.

>it's just because Riders of the Dead won readers choice 2024 in a BL awards so they reprinted it.
Wouldn't the in-book ad be for the Thanqual book then, which won last year, rather than Riders of the Dead, which won two years ago?

>The amount of grains you'd get from that much wheat wouldn't fill a teaspoon, so it's not that.

I think it's there just to symbolise their status as peasants. Wouldn't look for practicality or realism in Warhammer models

Mousillon has undead and chaos, its just an overall fucked region full of vaguely cursed shit. Half the peasantry are mutated.

>reskinned vargheists

Not really - vargheists are just wild and devolved vampires

gargoyles would specifically have a variety of different shapes and sizes (like real medieval grotesques) ranging from winged devils to chimeras etc. and be a a tough (they are made of stone) flying infantry unit not a monstrous one and potentially have rules about starting the game as part of a terrain piece before breaking free of it to surprise attack the enemy.
