Anon was shitposting with the idea of space marines shitting themselves after being so used wearing their stillsuits, I mean power armour. But I think space marines and their reliance on their armour, which are each ancient sacred relics their forebears and great chapter heroes died in is underdeveloped and not focused on.
In the secret level amazon short we see the daemon/ sorcere play on the fears of space marines to kill them. One of the bladeguards has his own armour rip him out and crush his skull. To me that was the astartes fearing he was nothing without his armour and that the armour is the real space marine being piloted by different gene-enhanced barely human pilots.

I dunno there's a lot you could do between an asartes and their relationships with their armour that isn't really used

>>
>>97796747
I was just thinking something similar. In the Flesh Tearers book the one guy breaks his arm in a crash and he snaps it back into place and it's no big deal, the first thing I thought was the armor would be a splint but then I realized, how do you break your arm in power armor in the first place?
Depending on the chapter, they probably are held together by their armor to a certain extent. IH takes hours just to get out of theirs, while the more espionage or barbarian focused ones probably fight without it on occasion.
Aspirants go through so much it's hard to picture an Astartes with impostor syndrome though. Except the Absolvers apparently.

The development of Primaris marines was outright to put them on an even playing field with chaos marines who are usually so hopped up on warp juice they probably out mass loyalists by a fair margin in fluff. A veteran chaos marine is likely to be mutated as much as any primaris mods could hope for.
>>

>Aspirants go through so much it's hard to picture an Astartes with impostor syndrome though
Decades or even centuries of getting ABIs and religious fanaticism towards their deified long dead brothers who each living astartes is trying to live up to. I can see imposter syndrome developing over time when an older astartes you look up to dies from something minor. you know?

some people enjoy building more or are more efficient with it, a combat patrol isn't something you're expected to complete building in a day
this is a hobby for you to enjoy, that includes building and painting
there are countless youtubers telling you how to speed up your hobbying to get a game ready army but you need to focus on a pace that you're able to have fun with it or you're just wasting your time, the game is fine but not so mindblowingly good enough that you need to be racing to finish getting your models ready for playing with

the middle east quagmire goes back to the original sin of eisenhower helping the shah destroy irainian democracy
what most people don't realize is that in the post WWII environment a lot of countries wanted more independence and democratic reforms together with nationalization of natural resources

The UK and the US realized that nationalized oil or minerals means less money for their companies, and that democracy means that people could vote in socialists/commies, so the two went on a massive spree of installing pro-west dictators all across the globe. The commies did the exact same thing but with communist dictators in their sphere of influence.
But because the interests of these dictators were ultimately about being pro-west or pro commie instead of nationalist, discontent grew and you had a lot of revolutions. In the middle east, you had a ton of people who essentially went 'WE MUST RETVRN TO RELIGION' and used that as a basis to get themselves a popular revolution. The Mujahadeen were religious warriors who were supported by the US for being anti USSR, and the Soviets quickly cosied up to the Iranian islamic regime thanks to the switch from the Shah's pro US stance to the anti-US ayotollah.

tldr the middle east shitshow is a reaction to imperialism and religious fundamentalism taking over thanks to oppression

>but employs sorcerers.
It's not sorcery, it's the power granted by Fenris and the All Father.
If sisters can get away with 'it's not sorcery, it's "faith"', then space wolf shit isn't sorcery either.

Also we know neither of them are psychic shit in-universe as GW has expanded upon them, for worse honestly.

For Rune Priests their power comes from the Fenris' world spirit, it's basically the planet's own soul that is granting RP the power.
World spirits are a thing, it's what exodite maiden worlds have.

And nowadays for sisters their powers are just vague "faith", despite everything surrounding it and its actual origins literally just be warp shit in reality. And we DO know that it is Warp shit because during the 13th black crusade, when Cawl activated the pylons it caused Saint Celestine to lose her powers. We also know how Saint Celestine resurrects. Every time she dies, she has to physically climb a mountain of her own corpses so she can resurrect, and this place is within the Warp.
These 2 things alone already prove a psychic connection and proves that there is no such thing as specific "faith" power, and it is and was just Warp shit that the sisters get access to by fervent believers of the Emperor.
And more sisters there are around, more concentrated their gestalt psychic field becomes and that allows miracles to happen.
This isn't unprecedented in the setting either, because it's exactly the SAME how orks and their belief power works. Like red making shit faster is not a meme, it's real in universe.

GW just lazily fucking retconned all of it because they were retarded and shoe horned sisters into Pariah Nexus for no reason. And obviously people then realized, that sister's powers shouldn't even work there at all.
Then GW came up with a bullshit reasoning as to why the Null Fields didn't negate their miracles and just went with
>umm, it's because of Faith™
>yeah, we totally intended this and didn't make this shit up on the spot
>pls beliv

Its the limiting factor. Its what prevents you from building a 6th mini in a 5 minis box. You have additional heads, arms, even torsos, but legs are what makes the unit. And since legs are what people see the leadt in a mini, you wont notice the identical legs in a multi box unit as much, as long as they have different weapons and heads.
>>
>Cadulon is a Captain and former Company Champion of the Iron Knights Chapter. Cadulon rose to the position of Company Champion when his predecessor was killed by a Dark Eldar slaver-queen in battle on the planet of Cystan. Over the centuries that followed, Cadulon became renowned for his swordsmanship and became known as the "Saint of Blades" for his skill at arms and became revered by every Chapter that sent warriors to the ritual Feast of Blades. Three times Cadulon represented his Chapter at the Feast of Blades, winning the first time he entered and narrowly losing the second time. The third time he entered, Cadulon claimed victory for a second time, one of only a handful of Space Marines to do so.

>Eventually, Cadulon was promoted to Captain and served with distinction for nearly a century in command of the Iron Knights Fourth Company until 226.M41, when he crossed blades with the Dark Eldar Archon Khargiel on the planet Omeros. With his command squad and his own Company Champion kept busy by the twisted alien’s minions, Cadulon found himself fighting single-handedly against the Archon and a dozen Incubi. Even the "Saint of Blades" could not hold out against so many skilled foes, and he was incapacitated. The last that any of his Battle Brothers saw of Cadulon, he was being carried, still struggling against a dozen captors, into the writhing darkness of a webway portal.

>After being taken captive, Cadulon was forced to battle Lelith Hesperax in the Wych arenas of Commorragh. The duel lasted for over six hours before he finally fell, managing to land a cut across Hesperax's midfriff.

The only time I've kitbashed extra units has been the harlequins boat kits and troupe kits. The boat kit is dual build so has extra bodies includingg legs spare for the hangers on/gunners of the variant you don't build. Combine with spare troupe arms and you can get a couple of extra clowns out of the sets.

Hey!
>>
>>97797683
World spirits aren't technology, they just naturally exist in the galaxy. How they are born, we don't know but they are real.
And it's likely that the world spirits are reflection of the planet's natural nature, which would explain why most Imperial planets don't have any. Because vast majority of them are ravaged and destroyed by millenia of polllution, industry and warfare.
It also explains why crafworld eldar and exodites are extremely pissed about the Imperium settling their maiden worlds, Imperium doing it inevitably kills the planet and the world spirit within it.
Exodites are just one of the few faction who make use of them.

Fenris having a world spirit does make sense, it's a death world, a planet type that Imperium usually ignores mostly because the planet is very often actively hostile towards any infrastructure Imperium tries to build, and so can't do much with them besides trying to colonize it, emphazis on the word "try". So Fenris is still in its natural state
And 2nd it's a space marine homeworld, a planet that Imperium often just leaves alone and leave the marines in charge of it. And marines often leave the planet environment as is, because they often use the same planet to train their recruits.

Depends on what semi casual means. Have they played for a little while and possess game knowledge from outside of your table? Then 3 vindicators actually don't take that much anti tank to start stripping down. Are they green players still running a bunch of battle line or flavor units, that don't know what jail means? Then yeah bro you're running termies and 3x one decent shooting vehicle, they either can or can't deal with your durability and in a casual setting that's the end of the game.

Don't think there's any fight that has gone that long with her, in a codex or even BL

Lame, her whole thing is that her skin is perfect and she has not a single scar, not because deldar have the tech to heal wounds without a scar (they do) but because she has never been cut.
Some gladitor games have wyches run across barbed wire and fight atop them, a space marine getting to cut her diminishes and disrespects her character.

Elite trained and experienced yet baseline dark eldar > space marines.
Incubi leaders have a ritual where they kidnap 4 space marines in full armour and they are given any melee weapon from the chapter they use. Then the Incubi with one arm tied behind his back and a weapon kills all 4 space marines in a spectacle to the rest of the Incubi shrine.

When space marines easily defeat dark eldar en masse its imperial plot armour

Anon space marines go through all that hectic training and gene enhancement just so they can compete beyond the baseline troops of other enemies in the galaxy. Space marines are the nid warriors or aspect warriors of eldar for humanity. They're not meant to be top of the food chain one on one. Even in a 1:1 fight against an ogryn, a marine would still win like 9/10 times.
Simply because
>1. he is more agile and moves faster
>2. has better reaction time
>3. he is smarter and knows how to use his opponent's size against him
>4. has access to better tools and weapons
>5. usually has decades if not centuries of fighting experience, while his opponent is at best an actual retard with chromosomal impairment who is at best probably 15 years old

I don't think it's practical for GSC to diddle children. First of all, if we are talking about children of the cult then you are psychically enslaved to take care of them the best of your abilities. If instead we are talking about outsiders then they probably just have them kissed so that once they reach maturity they become part of the cult and have hybrid children, which while it works very well as a metaphor for child molestation, it's not literally that.

No, the Chimera seems to be a post-heresy vehicle, or at least it was adopted and mass produced post-heresy.

Hi all.
While I still play HH, I do have my old Guard packed away and looked at the codex to see if it's still usable in 40K.
All of my Valkyries are converted into Vendettas, which don't seem to be a thing any more?
The Vulture Gunships also went bye-bye?
My Valkyrie Sky Talon vanished some editions ago, so I'm not surprised that it's still dead.

Debatable. There's always been more to the Dark Elf empires than sexy gladiator women but they haven't really highlighted any of those aspects in 40k in decades. They can't really be the black armored dark lord army from across the seas here because that role belongs to chaos space marines exclusively now.

GSC have a similar image problem but I think conceptually they're even more limited than DE. if we had to reduce 40k to only two factions, speaking in terms of narratives, themes and potential for minis, it would have to be genecults and the inquisition.
genecults allow aliens, traitorous humans, blasphemous cultists, mutant creatures of all sorts, and haphazard equipment of any kind from repurposed military equipment to mad max vehicles.
meanwhile the inquisition would also encapsulate everything about the imperium, from the hypocritical use of forbidden technologies to the dogmatic zealous warriors in power armor, enlisted soldiers and press-ganged punks.
Everything about the imperium would be preserved and represented, and all elements of the classic 40k narratives would be mantained, from the threat within to the distant looming foe.

If we have to talk just about the miniatures that exist and the popularity of the ranges as they are, then yes marines and orks would have to be it, but 40k wouldn't stand up.

It does change things, I'm an example of the way people think, people don't react the same to a demon popping out of a dude the same way they react to an alien popping out of a dude, there are very different spheres of influence guiding the understanding and reading of the two things even when they can be virtually the same.

An alien will forever be a very different beast to a demon, especially in 40k. And so if you want chaos to truly be able to do everything the genecults can do, you would have to "cheat" and give them chaos-marked alien creatures under their use, but the problem with that is that you're making the galaxy feel an awfully lot smaller if everything that happens in it is down to the very anthropocentric chaos, even aliens.

You do know the new orks also have that, right? That's just how warhammer orks look.
>>
>>97798631
No, you don't understand, when the ancient aliens people say this or that god was an alien, they don't attribute divine qualities to it, they wash away the divine traits as a misunderstanding and replace the entire framework with technology.
The two spheres of concepts of sci fi aliens and mystical/divine/magical things don't actually blend, they replace one with the other and keep the label.

Depends on the kit, really. In the case of Krieg, they need to be more rigid so that the gasmask tubes can attach to the chest properly.

>>
...do they know?
>>
>>97798553
>>97798567
Putting aside the question of "should Orks have the posture of a gorilla?", the actual problem with the old kit is that the molds are fucking ancient and at this point have pretty severe slipping problems. If GW still had their original masters to create new molds from, then I'd take that option, but I doubt they do.

>when the ancient aliens people say this or that god was an alien, they don't attribute divine qualities to it, they wash away the divine traits as a misunderstanding
That can be the case, but you'll find if you interact with people that it's usually not the case. You're describing a Star Trek episode, whereas most believers will believe something like that these aliens come from a higher, better dimension and have cool magic powers.
>The two spheres of concepts of sci fi aliens and mystical/divine/magical things don't actually blend
They blend completely when the concepts and technology become advanced enough. Think of Lovecraftian type works.

In the sense that while the krieg models still have fully interchangeable arms, they can't have ball socket heads like pretty much every other kit because the hoses need to attach to a specific body in a specifuc way. Would be different if they somehow managed to make them out of rubber or some other flexible material but with hard plastic that's it. Same goes for any kit that wants to have decent looking cloaks. They need to go over the arms which means the arm posts have to be locked.
>>

if you have other bright colours on the models you don't necessarily need the "energy" parts to be spot colours, especially now that the rods are all but gone, they can be more conventional metal, they can be more of the teal

if you want an unused gimmick you could grab some vantablack or black3.0 paint and make them into miniature black holes, completely devoid of color or reflectivity except for some thin red/orange/yellow brightness at the edges of the balls and blades

but it takes some more attention and would probably require you to not paint other parts black

Everyone will keep using their old codices, meaning that the rules changes must be minor enough to allow for that and that anyone with a shitty codex (Most factions) will be stuck with it.

Who else here is trying to get through their backlogs before 11 launches? Here's what I got on my plate to do before June

Still on the Sprue
>Pretty much everything except the Obliterators/Venomcrawler from the Hellforged Warband battleforce (Been holding off on it mostly in wait for when the IW stuff releases).
>A 4th Leman Russ
>Armigers #5 & 6
>20 Jakhals from last year's Battleforce that I'm too lazy to build (Built the rest of the box already)
>A buncha Combat Patrol magazine issues (Mostly the CSM and Ork stuff)

Assembled and waiting for priming
>A Baneblade and a Chimera
>A buncha Eldar stuff

Primed and ready for painting
>A buncha Salamanders stuff
>A buncha World Eaters stuff

Working on some Jakhals and Berserkers at the moment. My current plan is to plow through all the World Eaters models I've got primed first and then probably build the remaining Jakhals next, then the Russ and then the CSM stuff. I'm probably gonna buy one or two of the IW upgrade sprues when they drop and hold off on buying more until 11th drops Though I can see myself getting the Guard box with the new vehicles too.

>a whirlwind
>10 terminators
>10 assault terminators
>1 land raider
>5 jump pack assault marines

I have one of each regular heros in power armour, chaplain, capitan, librarian, apothecary and ancient. What should I buy next.

Even if the models themselves are cheaper in terms of quantity of plastic for the price, in my experience it's actually the more expensive hobby of the two because everything EXCEPT the models is so much more expensive. You can spend the cost of one or two full 40k armies on just tools if you're even remotely serious about the hobby.

Mind you I doubt those tanks will be going to legends as they are still widely used, sell just fine and none of the new tanks are actual replacements for their niches, especially the vindicator. Legends rules are completely fine for casual play, be it at home or in a game club, they are just usually terribly balanced so more often than not it's not worth it. The only place they are banned is in official tournaments but chances are you won't be going to those anyways. And this is only for 40k, in 30k the legacies rules (the equivalent to legends) is completely legal everywhere. With the new edition taking a more narrative approach and not segregating the modes of play, legends might be legal everywhere aswell.

Nip and chink lacquer paints cost 3x more than western acrylics due to all the hassle of shipping flammable goods across the world
Plus since you're painting individual models rather than armies with relatively uniform paint schemes you get less mileage out of individual colors and probably have to buy a shit ton of additional paint for every model you get
And, again, the quantity of tools you need because Gunpla is mostly a craft hobby, not a painting hobby
You can easily drop hundreds on just scribing chisels in various sizes which are one of the most basic tools in the hobby

>ghaz (half built)
>beastboss
>another beast snagga unit
>mozrog
>tankbustas
>breakas
>maybe a 3rd trukk
>a kill rig

At the same time im trying my best to get through a gsc list too, which ill need to either finish building, paint or strip the following

>3 ridgerunners
>10 gargoyles
>10 metamorphs
>5 man purestrains
>biophagus
>atalan jackals
>aberrants + abominant

The only way i could finish all of that is if i lose my job tomorrow and just paint full time until 11e is released, and then ill have a fuck tonne more orks to paint

The fuck are you on about.

I was building and painting Gunpla as a hobby for over a decade before I jumped back into 40K a few years ago, and aside from a few more drill bits for pinning/magnetizing stuff the same the cost of tools are pretty much the same
>Nip and chink lacquer paints cost 3x more than western acrylics due to all the hassle of shipping flammable goods across the world
Every major Japanese brand already has a distributor in the US already (Mr Hobby and Tamiya primarily, you can find them at Hobbytown USA and other local hobby shops). You don't NEED Gaianotes and shit to paint Gunpla. And don't even try to use "Oh you need to buy an airbrush and a compressor too!" as an excuse you can use those for GW models too.
>Plus since you're painting individual models rather than armies with relatively uniform paint schemes you get less mileage out of individual colors and probably have to buy a shit ton of additional paint for every model you get
If you're airbrushing you can get away with certain colors by mixing together colors you already have. And besides, it's not like most Gundams don't use the same Tri-Color + White colorscheme in the first place with subtle changes to the shades of the colors.
>And, again, the quantity of tools you need because Gunpla is mostly a craft hobby, not a painting hobby
It's literally the same tools as 40k or any other modeling hobby. It's only the top 5% of hobby autists aiming for GBWC that actually chisel their own panel lines and go balls in.

People say Gunpla models are cheaper because they simply are. Why would someone completely new to both hobbies choose to buy an almost $200 Questoris Knight that has very limited posing options and comes in all-grey plastic when they could buy a $50 Master Grade kit that's just as big with full articulation and all the parts molded in the right colors out of the box.
>>
>>97799431
Oh I do buy less. I might get a couple of boxes a year plus the odd big box like a starter if I actually want the models. But even then it's hard to spend that kind of money.
>>
>>97799419

okey, but doesn't that mean, that armies that got their rules cut, will not transit well in to 11th, because their "balance" was the strat stacking. meanwhile a unit that GW wrote (necron or eldar come to mind) with 10000 rules is going to be rather powerful.
>>
>>97799499
That's a problem of the artillery itself, still: "stratagems" should be something you buy.
>>97799504
>I just think the whole gimmick of having an abstracted metacurrency to spend on random abilities just doesn't work for a wargame.
Exactly, because it's a cardgame/boardgame thing. I can think of a couple card games with a mana system like that
>>
>>97799515
Detachments are gonna be completely replaced and with them all stratagems so we don't know what balance or army power will look like.
>>
>>97799437
>You don't NEED Gaianotes and shit to paint Gunpla
Not having access to Gaia is pretty crippling, Mr. Hobby's color range is surprisingly limited if you don't include Aqueous. Part of why I switched from mecha to miniatures was the better availability and lower price of paint in the EU.
>>

Damn, you weren't kidding. I never saw one in person, only in the old Dawn of War game. Still, as much as I love the chaos crab, the new one is pretty fancy. I'm not condoning GW price gouging as a whole, but it is a consistent price with how much everything else costs rn. Also the mathhammer waacfag types are all acting like its the next OP thing so that hype will probably drive high sales and GW wanted to cash in on that. Fuck GW in general, but the KIT is very premium.

>>97799521
>That's a problem of the artillery itself, still: "stratagems" should be something you buy.

Stratagem bloat was something specifically criticized in 8th and 9th, but I do think bringing SOME back would be good. I always really liked that epic heroes often came with a unique strat or two to show how they change how the army plays. We went from like 80 possible strats to 6, there is probably a middle ground there.

I feel like paying for strats is probably not good because they have an in game cost as well. Imagine how bad it would to pay for a strat you never use when you could just have another Leut in phobos armor running around for that cost?
>>
>>97799535

No. Bring back the armoury. That's what you want. Tons of upgrades that add special rules and cool weapons to your characters. Think something like the cybork upgrade, bionics, vortex grenades, relics. Stratagems as a system are a plague for the game.
>>
>70 detachments

So each army would get roughly 5 detachments. We are going to suffer from detachment fatigue if we can use the ones from 10e too

I would say probably the most popular novels --> model transition is Assassins but we all know the sad and pathetic truth: it's primarch shit.

Bobby G was in novels for years and then got shit out as a model and printed millions.

I've been liking Peter Fehervari's stuff. I wasn't paying attention to who wrote what and I liked 3 stories by him.

custodes come from rogue trader and vision of heresy artworks
harlequins are old as hell, early 2nd edition
sisters of silence once again come from blanche's artworks
the inquisition is the heart and soul of the imperium in rogue trader
assassins don't come from novels either, once again you're looking at early sculpts extravaganza

sorry I consider codex fluff the same as novels. The things I listed in lore existed in codex artwork before getting models.

Anon, the new wave serpent kit (which this includes) is now a dual kit between the Falcon and Wave Serpent

You’ll want a mix of the aspects, not only because rules are temporary, but because they’re always the core of the army no matter the rules. From there you can expand into whatever path you like: wraiths, bikes and vehicles, corsairs, the idiotic “new Eldar” (aka Ynnari), even going down Dark Eldar if you like. But the aspects are the core and will always be that

NTA but it's kind of a weird move to keep the 10e codices, thereby tying their hands from making a lot of changes.
It's like the opposite from DnD where it's been over a decade and they're releasing new rulebooks but they refuse to declare a new edition.

11 is just 10.5
same way 9 was just 8.5
>>
>>97800455
Does that mean 11 is actually 9.5 then?

The world spirits on maiden worlds are a psychic gestalt of all the Eldar who died on the world. It's a big ball of souls collected from a super-psychic race. So how exactly is Fenris' world spirit the same? Are all fenrisians secretly powerful psykers who's souls are collected by the planet? If not, then it isn't what the Exodites have.

Can I get a QRD from Godblight where Mortarion shit his pants when I assume the door to where Nurgle actually is and lives opened when the Emperor possessed Guilliman? Why would he be terrified of that?

>The world spirits on maiden worlds are a psychic gestalt of all the Eldar who died on the world
Are you sure? I knew worlds had spirits regardless and the eldar simply find shelter with them while most other races are deaf to them.

>Why would he be terrified of that?
You don't want to meet Nurgle personally, even a one of his daemons.

World spirits are indeed the exodite version of infinity circuits, but who knows, maybe they require a preexisting world spirit in the vein of Fenris/Baal/Nocture to actually function.

2nd edition codex states that the world spirit is a "complex psychic energy grid" connected to the outside world by psychically interactive standing stones which anchor psychic power into the planet. Considering the fact that maiden worlds are specifically plants terraformed by ancient Eldar, it stands to reason that this "energy grid" could be there by design and not some natural phenomenon.

You know page 8 is not a good reason to make a new thread.
Previous thread took over 12h to go from page 8 to page 10.
