Tau being a hopeful, potential-filled fledgling race about to learn the follies of bringing xenos into the fold while dealing with the rigid caste system/ethereal oppresion should be leaned into way more

While most of the details are in the document, the main thing is that peeps will be part of a team consisting of T'au, Drukhari, Kroot, and Sslyth player characters, working for a criminal syndicate that focuses on profit above all, and is trying to take and hold territory for the second time in its existence (the first time didn't work out too well). Special Forces in that you're an elite member of the syndicate's enforcer / mercenary division, performing top secret missions for the leadership to secure territory, get paid, and make a name for yourselves. There's something big out there to find, are you badass enough to charge in guns blazing? In your downtime, you can spread the syndicate's corruption through the galaxy. This isn't Chaos corruption in the spiritual sense, but things like Intimidation, Piracy, Kidnapping, Racketeering, Bribery, Militia Manipulation, Black Marketing, and Slavery operations through ground, space, and mass combat operations. You can also join the fight to secure territory in Commorragh, for more bonuses and plunder. You have an entire sector to exploit. Or you could just go fishing. I won't judge.

I expect it to be a shorter game, dependent on how many missions peeps want to undertake. While the main objective from my perspective is to test out a bunch of the new careers I made, I do want peeps to have fun akin to Scarface meets James Bond with near limitless options. And for other peeps, recruitment is still open. There's still plenty of space for peeps. You can find all the info in:

An invasion is a pretty big problem. Also note that Traitors don't have chapters, they have warbands, which are almost infinitely less organized and usually consist of whoever the hell the man in charge can bludgeon into following him.
If I had to make a guess, though, I'd say a very particular type of Word Bearer, one which lands on-planet, conveniently fails to mention his treasonous behavior or attitude toward the Emperor, and basks in the adulation of the local populace that one of the Emperor's Angels has arrived. They will then slowly convert the populace and undermine authorities, or convert the authorities and sacrifice the populace, or whatever the hell they decide to do with a planet. Probably try to fortify it against Imperial forces, likely as a staging point for future actions.
All of these possibilities do still count as problems, though. That kind of comes with being invaded.

Maybe Alpha Legion? Their usual tactics involve a single squad to infiltrate a planet and then begin a cult. This is only nice in the sense that it's on a much longer scale and starts out much smaller. Some Space Marine chapters can be pretty lenient. Going lone wolf to succesfully kill a CSM and coming back could be a death sentence for chapters that view it as directly abandoning their duties or disobeying orders, or it could mean a century in penitence, a simple black mark on their record, or it could mean an implied commendation and a tacit acceptance in chapters with a more flexible view on deployment structure. Him being successful makes it a lot easier to brush off the harsher punishments. It's kind of Lukas' whole schtick, though that is the Space Wolves.

The deadline has passed. I initially had three applicants. However, one rescinded their application over the weekend, as their schedule suddenly changed, and the times they gave were no longer valid. That left only two peeps, which isn't enough to start a new series. Rather than extend the deadline, what I am going to do is wait a month or so, and use that time to better prepare for the series, and review / improve the careers that seemed popular, making sure their mechanics are properly phrased and potentially add some new stuff. That way, peeps who already applied can have something to look forward to when application times roll around again. I will try again to dredge peeps in the future, and hopefully we will have more luck.

We pedobait a pedonoble with the jailbait crackolyte waiting in the secluded and deserted balcony area, while Galen hides behind a statue ready to Chris Hanson this noble.

Callidia tf2_spy_seduces the noble, offering things I cringe too hard to repeat, but mainly a supply of kids to be diddled in exchange for being introduced to the pleasure cult. This because he turned out to be the only lead towards sinderfell that whore.

Turns out he continues to be a fraud, doesnt even know sinderfell directly, he's just a rich retard drinking the hedonistic doosmday koolaid. At least he gives us the location of the next pleasure party where that bitch sinderfell is gonna be.

The beloved God-Emperor's Holy Inquisition thanks him for his cooperation, he manages to freak out just a little before Galen was signaled to turn his neck 360 degrees. Koba's body was tossed over the balcony, from the hive spire. Cellanus pocketed the man's rings and fancy necklace.

Jackie is in the highborn daycare two 40k floors down, barricading himself against Pilgrims of Hayte. The crackolytes climb down the balcony and get there through a window, moderatelly risking TPK as we noticed our colective Climb skill is under 20 and we dont have the grapples and drop harnesses.
We all make the checks first try, the emperor protects.

Yep, it's divinely killing time. The crackolytes bulldoze the heretics and are nearly unscathed, since they only managed to land a hit for 1 single wound on Galen even after surrounding him and one shotgun blast on Callidia. Hower she is divinely protected and the one who wronged her, got a blessed inferno bolt shell to the head for the highest effect on the Explosive Critical Wound to the Head table. Reduced to nothing and his ammo/frags cooked off to blow up his allies.

This combat I also learned the danger of standing in point blank range and shooting heretics in the head with a bolt pistol.

Other than that, the GM was left in disbelief as the heretics could not touch us, even with scatter properties, then when Callidia rolled a 99 and still hit a headshot.
Cellanus and Galen also got to explode people using their power swords.

Combat over, we check on the kids. Meaning we bully the highborn brats and even bitchslap some, until one little girl drops a piece of information that makes the whole mystery piece together. She said her father is going to that pleasure party tommorrow.
But we talked to her father, Hector something, patriarch of a minor noble house who collects Astartes relics. He's a pious man who said he has no interest in pleasure cults and debauchery...

We lock the kids back in the daycare before enforcer reinforcements show up, climb back up into the balcony and check with our two nobles for updates.

The party is over and people are finally leaving, Hector was the one who insisted on ending the event and the first to gtfo.

Galen full sprints through the ballroom to reach him, Callidia makes the terrible mistake of hesitating on her hunches, theories and suspicions, causing her to not instantly follow Galen. Some enforcers try to stop him, they even try to gun him down, they fail.
Galen reaches Hector just before he gets on his hovercar, he asks if Hector can take us with him to the party as reward for saving his daughter. He says he'd love to have us with him! Tells Galen to go back and let us know.

It's better than storm. With storm, the hits can be dodged or shielded against. These extra hits happen after reactions and shields, so the enemy just has to take them, and they're easy enough to trigger.

Storm is extra hits always. The usual Deflagrate rule is only extra hits sometimes. You have an equal chance to dodge and/or shield against an attack from a Storm weapon as you do the initiating attack from a volkite weapon, and if you don't score those initial hits both guns do nothing.
The key difference I notice is that for Storm, you get an extra hit regardless of whether you breach the enemy's armor, and for Deflagrate, instead of rolling all dice at once you have to roll for damage, check it against the target's soak, then roll damage for the new hits.
It just feels like extra bookkeeping.

Basically. It's in the Project ND recruitment document. You basically get a bunch of underworld stuff like ciphers and peer underworld (and can advance them), can pay Profit Factor to rez instead of Fate Point, and it acts as an augment to an existing origin for a bunch of races (so you make your normal origin path, then you slap the House stuff on top of it). It's a bit loaded right now, since I included a few talents like Hotshot Pilot which will be useful for the series but won't be in the final version. The link still works if you want to give it a once-over - when I try recruiting again in early-mid May, it may be useful to have.

It's based off the mechanic from Black Crusade where you rez yourself with your infamy. Here, it scales based on your Rank, so a rank 2 character pays 2 PF to rez, and a rank 8 pays 8 to rez, representing it taking more resources and a more comprehensive healthcare insurance plan to restore someone stronger, as well as providing a scaling factor throughout the game matching one's expected PF gains. That way, dying sucks, but as long as you manage your finances, it's not too bad of an issue.

I use a variant homebrew where I simply reflavor Infamy into Fate as a characteristic. You roll your starting amount just like Black Crusade, with Voidborn and others that get bonus Fate Points getting a free +5 to the starting amount. However, I cap your available Fate Points at 3, with the cap increased by abilities that would increase your Fate Points in the base game. The absolute maximum your Fate Threshold can be is 6, so if your Fate increases above 60, it's completely pointless and you should start burning it. I find it makes players more aggressive and generally speeds up play, plus I let them burn it to create retroactive details, which plays well in my group that likes to plan heists, but then have to scramble to compensate for things they forgot.

I guess.I try to keep the games I run lore-accurate and in tone with FFG rulebooks and other stuff most would consider "typical" 40k - I mean, that's what we're playing a 40k game for. But I don't hate on people who want something less standard especially if they are already veterans of "generic" games. Unless it's just some dumb memefest

The only thing I'm slightly adjusting is access to chapter specific squad modes, since I want the kill-team to actually get some use out of them, but one of sourcebooks even suggests that as an optional rule. To expand, you have to keep in mind that a hive-mind is not one being, but the gestalt culmination of many smaller beings. I tried using other languages in some series, where if the players didn't know the language, I would sub in a separate one. For instance, necron used egyptian arabic text, or aeldari would get old irish, etc. The issue was some peeps would just run it back through a translator to figure it out, making it redundant. My most recent series had a small tribe of shipwrecked mechanicum adepts who had crashed on the planet during the Heresy, and thus their language diverged greatly, so I used the abyss language from Made in Abyss which couldn't be translated through google automatically. Not even Polyglot could make sense of it since it was a unique isolate. They ended up relying on one NPC to translate for the other because they opted not to spend the time to learn it themselves.

Does anyone have experience with Lathe Factors operating as infiltrators in Dark Heresy? Of particular interest to me are the implications of having "Mechanicus Implants" and other augmetics while being subjected to metal detectors or x-ray machines.

Would they automatically pick up concealed augmetics without a check? If not, are there talents, traits, or items that otherwise make bionics less visible explicitly to sensor detection? The wording of "Fabricated Flesh" seems ambiguous as to whether or not it applies to machines doing the searching or just people.

I'm gonna take a stab he thinks the flame itself damages your skin via chemical reactions, and some half-remembered factoids about how space is freezingly cold and blindingly hot at the same time (it's not, it's just cold, but the light of stars is much, MUCH stronger than you'd expect due to a lack of atmospheric interference). Therefore, if the armor can keep "space" out, as deadly as it is, then it can keep the deadly "fire" reaction out. Like the other Anon said, it strongly depends on the GM and personally I also like to give some insanity points for PCs who do it too often or see something very extreme/heretical in the absorbed memories to discourage overusing it.
That being said, I think it's actually a pretty good thing to have balance-wise, because Deathwatch players tend to not focus on investigation skills very much when developing their characters (especially if there's no Apothecary/Librarian/Tech-marine present), so using the omophagea is sometimes the only thing that actually allows them to successfully investigate something or learn some important extra info they'd otherwise miss

I had an idea of running a game where a group of inquisitors would find out that a world that ships food to an astartes training world are poisoning the food with drugs to try to get them addicted or fall to slaanesh. But I'm getting caught on what drugs would work on them. Given their super human physiology they can process out everything we have in our world from tobacco to heroin. Found something hilarious in Imperium Maldictum. Using the new rules you can now customize weapons a LOT more. You have to justify it as not Tech heresy though. But as long as you keep it to one or two changes you should be fine.

One such modification is to have it Inflict (Condition) of your choice. The o ly draw back is gaining the Ineffective trait (doubling the armor value against damage)

One such Condition is Unconscious, which pretty much immediately shuts you down, no save. And there are a handful of weapons that either ignore all armor by default, or never interact with armor in the first place.

Easily the best weapon in the game is a slightly modified Graviton gun

Sure, but Astartes were created purely as soldiers for galactic conquest accompanied by other specialists. Deathwatch members have to do some investigative stuff every now and then due to their close cooperation with Inquisition, but that's an exception from the norm, vast majority of Astartes will almost never genuinely need this feature.
I meant it more from a meta-perspective though, so to speak, it just never seemed to fit the tone of the Astartes to me. Like, most of their implants just increase their physical capabilities and endurance, which perfectly fits the supersoldier archetype, but "eat a corpse to magically gain its memories" is a type of weirdass ability you would rather expect from some freaky xeno or specialised Assassinorum agent

I would just represent it as a trait giving them something like +10 to dodge parry against targets they've attacked in their last turn, but -10 dodge parry against attacks from all other sources and -20 awareness when they are in battle. Of course you can crank those number up if you feel like it.
If you want to make a primarch's curse out of this, I would suggest that in later stages of the curse they have to pass an awareness roll first to even be able to attempt a reaction against anyone other then their current primary target

Most chapter trappings give rather minor effects, so I think it's alright. Alternatively you could also allow them to pick one weapon with no renown requirements and low RP cost as a signature weapon, representing whatever was passed down to them

Very short version? The Solaris Expanse is where I started hosting many of my recent games. It's set in the Large Magellanic Cloud, connected to the Milky Way by an absolutely ancient webway gate through the Magellanic Stream. Long story short, the first Imperial presence was due to a Crusade chasing down a rogue faction that found an Old Slann superweapon. The Crusade went through said portal, ultimately defeating the heretics and making landfall on a megastructure called Orbis Cradle, capable of creating stars (and responsible for the extreme stellar activity in the Tarantula nebula). This became Orbis Subsector. At this point, the Crusade broke apart - thanks to the players making choices and favoring one side of the crusade over the other, the Crusaders went in opposite directions, one founding the Varitia Sector under the Imperial Truth, and the other the Redentor Sector, under the Imperial Creed. They were making great progress conquering worlds, but were running low on wargear, so the Mechanicus back home sent a delegation and the Mechanicum Demesne was formed around the Forge World of Astrion, the desert moon of a gas giant that once held a living ocean before the War in Heaven. The players of that game ended up not only awakening a long-dormant Old Slann Warrior Servant, thus reactivating the Calibrations of Xholankha, but also ended up causing a massive warp storm known as the Sydian Abyss and sending a sleeping Necron dynasty on the warpath.

Other xenos factions also got caught up in things. One biotransferred Star Dragon took his Destroyers and Flayers, and went on the warpath, causing destruction, claiming territory, and kneecapping the pre-existing Necron dynasty until a treaty was approved by the dynast phaerons. There was also a T'au-Drukhari criminal syndicate that started claiming territory after the fact, and was blindsided by Old Slann worlds reactivating all around them, and that's where we are now...

The overall vibe of the place is "The Crusades meets the Conquest of the Americas", with the Imperial Crusader States fighting amidst the pyramids and jungles of the Old Slann and the Necrons, while Rogue Traders and other explorators fight each other in the "spice islands" in the periphery.

However, it's kind of hard to describe that vibe, and I don't know if there's a word for it. Do you know when you boot up a game like Medieval 2, especially the Crusades or Americas campaign, and you're isolated in an unfamiliar place and fighting unfamiliar foes? Your cities and units are a mix of the familiar you could bring with you from home, combined with the exotic native styles, creating a sort of liminal state between the two. However, as time goes on, you build up, you construct your armies, you fight, you grind away the opposition, and eventually the exotic gives way for the familiar - your lands look just like boring old home again. The magic is lost. The Solaris Expanse is still in that sort of liminal state. One day, in the far future, it may become just another set of standard template Imperial sectors. Or they could get erased as the Imperium loses their foothold in the galaxy. But for now, anything can happen, and there's a lot of openings for weirdness and new ways of doing things.

I was going over some stuff in preparation for Project ND, and one of the careers I was going to add to was the Air Caste Sky Captain. Right now, all its talents and abilities focus purely on vehicles and voidships, with little to contribute on ground, where most action takes place. I don't like it when one class can't contribute to a situation. Looking at it from a niche perspective, if the Cadre Fireblade uses Basic weapons, the Pathfinder uses Sniper weapons, and the Combat Engineer spams drones, and everyone can use heavy via Battlesuit, then maybe a good niche for the Sky Captain is pistol weapons. They are primarily pilots, but a player could be the dashing rogue-type, like a star wars smuggler or the eponymous sky captain from a world of tomorrow, who can pull off some pistol flair on ground but never lose their primary purpose of being best behind the wheel. Nothing is being lost, only added. The new abilities I considered are

-Bonus damage the round a pistol is drawn/reloaded.
-Spend fate to give a pistol Spray.
-Pistol shot that slows / roots the enemy, allowing for a quick getaway.
-Pistol shot that weakens enemy against abnormal effects (ex. Toxic, Snare, Rad-Phage, etc)
-Ability to play dead, to escape enemies or set up an ambush

There was another ability (a last-ditch shot that inflicts damage based on wounds lost), but after some thought, that doesn't really fit, and will probably go to the Sslyth instead. Surprisingly, it caused a lot of debate between my team, regarding whether or not that would be standard air-caste training, and something like calling an air strike would be better. My thought is that I've taken enough liberties with Fire, Earth, and Water caste, that a little embellishment for Air wouldn't hurt. I'll probably fiddle with these for the next book update soon.

I was making some mock-up characters for fun and ended up in that pistolier Solo-esque area for the Air Caste, so I'll confirm pistols as being a good niche. Maybe something to do with mitigating range maluses due to their superior depth perception, ignoring penalties to hitting running targets due to their experience leading shots in space combat, that sort of direction?

Gene-Seed is implanted into a Marine. This develops over time in the Progenoid Glands. In five years the one in the neck is mature. In ten years the one in the chest is mature. Unless both are wiped out by environmental circumstance like high radiation or violence rupturing them, then they can be harvested at death. Sometimes the neck is harvested early to help with low numbers. Since this is the only way to make more Marines it is of utmost importance to harvest geneseed from the battlefield

The progenoids themselves are relatively small and far more durable than their size suggests allowing them to survive things that don't kill a marine outright as long as it isn't something like DE or tyranid toxins or such. They each also have their own form of suspended animation so they can be harvested long after the marine in question is dead.

Just about the only way you can be sure the geneseed is lost is if you saw the marine get turned to giblets in front of you. Consider the amount of biological fuckery that goes into keeping testicles intact - they're slippery as hell, can physically retract into the body, and they're surrounded by a tough organic sheathe. Now consider how much stronger these traits could be and how many more you could apply with transhuman biology to something that doesn't even dangle vulnerably between your legs.
Now consider the redundancy afforded by having two of them, one in the chest and one in the neck, coupled with the fact that each progenoid gland develops a zygote for each of a marine's organs.
If John Bolter gets his ass blown off and shrapnel finds the chest progenoid, it's likely that even if damaged something will remain salvageable. If he loses his head, the neck progenoid will probably be damaged but the one in the chest will be fine. An apothecary loses nearly nothing by checking for anything to salvage unless they're actively under fire in the middle of a warzone, and given that they're the only way to produce new marines, it's far, far better to look and find one turned to salsa than to not bother looking and lose one.

You can be extroverted as an Admech. Admech in general are woefully underexplored. Think of it as stuffy academics who fight boisterously about such innne shit as what an extinct animal looked like, or how they might come to blows over what some author a hundred years ago meant in some book. You're just not emotional as a rule, but that doesn't mean a logical person can't be extroverted. Think of fictional characters who are autistically logical yet still personable.

There's a massive range of characters that can fall under the 'tech priest' umbrella. Even if you're going the full machine route, there's plenty of room to be extroverted and charismatic. Go sculpted silver, chrome and gold, teach the laity how to properly respect machine spirits and preach the acceptance of alloy. Be a massive iron-tentacled death machine that thinks he's still the amicable cuddly dad he started his priesthood as. Hide your steel under silk and synthetic flesh to play the spy and courtesan. Tech priests generally rule their emotions but they still have them. They can bicker and nag, be driven to rage and elation, show care and understanding; they're still people, ultimately.

In general, admech are insular autistic fucks mainly due to their culture and the habit of replacing parts of their brain with cybernetics, especially with the rite of pure thought. Usually they're more preoccupied with their focus of study or whatever duties they're given. There are techpriests that do specialize in talking with other people but an extroverted techpriest, while unusual for most, is something that can and has existed. You may also have to consider how this extroversion manifests, the admech character in the mechanicus and RT games are good examples to help get an idea of general feelings to fuel it.

The impression I've gotten from descriptions of techpriests over the years is that they actually have a decent range of choices for their augments, and there's a whole internal culture of oneupping each other with their augments.
