Are there mini games as side activities in your games? do you reward experience points for different ways of achieving objectives other than killing?
I award experience points for either>each session in which a character made meaningful progress towards their personal goal>each session survived in which a character risked their life (for games where the whole party have the same goal)
>>97871205I made a few board games growing up so I end up using them as side activities. That or I just take a real game and modify
>>97871205Sometimes. I'll handle tournaments and other civil contests with a series of skill checks with scaling difficulties.>do you reward experience points for different ways of achieving objectives other than killing?Anything that accomplishes a goal, whether they fought or not, earns the group XP.
>>97871205But anon rolling the dice is already a minigame
>>97871205I reward my players for catching, smoking, and selling fish
>>97871579Fishmaxxing
>>97871316Sounds awful, I mean the first point makes perfect sense, but the second means that when there's several ways to handle a situation, the sensible and cautious won't amound for anything. Instead players are incentivized to actively provoke fights or otherwise gamble with their life.
>>97871316>milestone experience pointsugh
>>97871579That's a good supplement >>97852049
>>97871907>Instead players are incentivized to actively provoke fights or otherwise gamble with their life.oh no, excitement and stakes? game ruined
>>97871205This evening injection of spam-threads is really high. Hope tomorrow there will be some real threads left.
>>97872514ah yes, real threads like the 3 MtG generals, and the 5 Warhammer generals
>>97871205What for? x2
>>97872011>Not playing and especially running games and living under Platonic idea of handling experience for combat encountersugh
>>97874201>for combat encountersugh
>>97871205Jousting. I invented a card based system for it and my table loves it. I have a homebrwwed system and its very lethal, low fantasy where players are expected to die. They have families and clans etc.
>>97871205>Are there mini games as side activities in your games? No. What the fuck does that even mean? "My games" aren't a fucking CRPG.>Do you reward experience points for different ways of achieving objectives other than killing?Yes, obviously. XP should be awarded for overcoming obstacles and reaching goals, regardless of how it was achieved.
>>97874528I mean during player's downtime buying supplies, resting, crafting items, and gathering up rumors; you could bust out a deck of cards and play poker. Or something else.
