There are three of them right now:
Stirland, Empire - Karl Gerard, younger brother of Karl Gustav who succumbed to his old wounds after he withstood many battles against greenskins, the undead, and, unfortunately, even some dwarves over minor (or major, depending on if you are a dwarf or not) disputes related to some treasures from a long lost hold. Gerard tries to move into the lands that were held by his brother and reclaim whatever is possible after the collapse that followed his death. So far he was unfortunate, losing one of his brother advisors who withheld the ogre advance so the young noble could retreat.

Vampire Counts - Countess Evelyn, an unbearable arisen who was daring enough to oppose her lord when he was at his weakest after robbing dwarven crypts and losing most of his necromancers. While he may have put his hand on many ancient bodies and treasures, his forces were depleted enough that he had to flee to save his hide. Right now he's biding his time and slowly regaining power. Who knows, he may still get back what he lost from one of his old subordinates.

Chaos - Khragdob the trollkin (with his trusty trolls almost finished in the background). Very little is known about this warlord who only recently descended on the shores of Border Princes. So far he has managed to subdue a small beastmen herd led by a wargor named Ghrull. His story is yet to be told.

Driving rn but my models weren’t painted due to the short notice and his models were mostly not painted (various states of unpainted to WIP) so ngl i’d be embarrassed to show pictures but the long and short of it was she wiped out a unit of huscarls with pistoliers, melee didn’t start till turn 3, in which it was a deadlock until my other unit of huscarls with my exalted champion came in and routed them, and then were ran down by a unit of berserkers not in combat, who then in turn 5 got charged by another unit of halberdiers (did I mention my opponent was empire?) and THAT became a deadlock. Eventually some road wardens killed my exalted champions unit of huscarls except for him, and since he was too close to a unit of berserkers he became untargetable by a unit of handgunners with a long rifle engineer in it, who then charged said unit of gunners and made them run for the hills, but was one inch short of running them down. I won by 31 victory points despite losing more points of models because I captured two of his banners and the two banners he killed of mine not being captured. It was my first game and I had a lot of fun

I appreciate the humility, though I can't help but think that a zenithal priming of white over a cream or brown colour could make a good base to work from. Some contrast or washes would make things pop even further. You've got a good idea with the scheme, it's just a matter of execution.

What do you guys think about the rumour that there's a future TK vs WE box coming?
Should I wait before buying into these guys?
>>
>>97883060
I did use a wash, and I'll have to redo the skull and maybe the flowers because of it. It was a desert bone color skull and fey pink flowers with royal purple tips, and they got full on tinted with just the tiniest bit of the wash. The flowers aren't as bad since its going to be purple anyway, but still.
>>
>>97883420
prob true, and (going forward) Bretonnia will be ignored until end times.
>>
>>97883420
I could believe it, but I also think it could be bullshit. The odds of them doing TK as the starter faction twice in a row feel not too high.

>getting into these guys
Which ones? WE or TK? Either way, if the box does come you will probably be able to buy the half you want to expand your collection. And at least for WE I dont see a major update to the model line coming. TK might get skeletons updated? But even that feels like its probably some ways out.

Power Behind the Throne very well might have killed my campaign. We're 3 years in (including running the Starter Kit) and all of my players are struggling IRL in one way or another and the whole political spy thriller thing after two books of fun mystery action with occasional combat has them overwhelmed.

If, and it's a big if, we somehow continue The Enemy Within, what should I do? We're on Day 3 of Carnival and only just got into the whole Dieter possibly being hypnotized thing, and we're about to investigate Gotthard Wallenstein personally, but I don't think my party, as is, can handle more social investigation RP-heavy stuff.

Otherwise, I might create a campaign off-ramp and just lead the party off on some other adventure, either using pre-existing adventures or making one up based on our party's personal stuff and the consequences of their actions, but I'm concerned that there'd be no overarching plot to guide the party at that point.

Worst case scenario, we shelf the campaign and move on to a different setting entirely, because I'd rather prioritize my players' fun and mental health over trying to force them to continue a campaign they no longer have the energy/willpower to enjoy. Thoughts?

Forgot to take pics, except for my own dudes prior to deployment.
And I faced a wild hunt mounted list, so it was all cavalry except for beastmasters and the wizard (who could fly).
A combination of my inexperience of facing any type of elves, along with a not optimal deployment (due to the first reason) and the typical bad luck of the die lead me to lose the game. Had fun though, and is what’s most important.

I just wrapped “the horned rat”

For my party I did 2 things that really helped the flow:

1 I LOOSELY followed the book and picked out a bunch of story beats I liked, and let my party basically discover the events they wanted to discover. We ended up doing a lot of things out of order, but as long as the big scenes (saving the law lords kidnapped daughter, the garden party, and the attempt on the grafs life) happened, then everything else was just improv.

2. I ran the first bit of “the horned rat” at the same time. Untangling the two intrigues was a mental challenge, but the cover of a more obvious “skaven plot” helped to provide tangible leads to follow up on that weren’t direct red herrings, and it made for a smoother transition into the later encounters in the 4th book.

I recommend for your players that you let them describe the scene they want to have, and feed them the necessary information, even if the scene doesn’t match the exact dialogue or setting of the book.
>>
>>97882211
Dip them in pic related. Give a drybrush of original base color. Spray matt / satin varnish if you want to get rid of the gloss.

That's about 5-10 minutes of work for infinitely better result

>>97883254

Mechanically? No. Demons are a faction built around their soup, and monogod has no reward for doing it at the cost of "most of your roster and flexibility"

You CAN, and some are stronger than others (tzeench monogod is pretty doable, or was back in the day) but in general you want to mix gods because all your best units are spread out all over the place

More of a more question. But my group has decided we're doing a short game in the WHF setting. Now, I know basically zilch about WHF outside of a bit or random Vermintide 2 stuff, dwarves and their grudge, and no one liking Skaven.

After a quick search I decided I'm going to play an Ogre Leadbelcher merc, mainly because the idea of being a big guy shooting a cannon with his bare hands, then clubbing people with it hilarious. What should I know about Ogres if I want to be the most Ogre possible? I've been filled in that they're always hungry, but that's about all I picked up so far.
>>
File: Ogre Maneater.png (762 KB, 545x841)

>>97887356
Ogre mercs and maneaters usually pick up the culture where they are at, so if he is new to the area he can be asking questions like; Why everyone wears the silly hats (and where he can get one), why that person (a general, priest, etc) is important, and what creatures this land has to offer his palate.
>>
>>97887356
>What should I know about Ogres if I want to be the most Ogre possible?
Honestly, ogres are pretty self-explanatory. Big dumb brutes who like eating and fighting a whole lot and are just smart enough to realise that money can be exchanged for goods and services like food.

Their only real quirk is how surprisingly open-minded they are. Ogres can get on with and later try and mimick almost any culture, whether its chaos, elves, dwarfs, empire or whatever else. Theyre incredibly "mentally flexible" in the sense that theres no "ew, don't like those" at least on a cultural level.
>>
>>97887356
ogres are very hungry
ogres are not dumb, they're merely strong enough that the brutal option for solving their problems is more often than not more than sufficient, so they rarely need to flex their brain muscle, but when they do, they can be scary clever
ogres are very hungry
ogres are weirdly adaptable, mercenary work isn't rare for them and when they stay long enough in one place they end up absorbing the culture, or at least the fashion, of their employers
ogres are very hungry
ogres are not fat, most of their bulk is muscle, think of them less like a very big fat man and more like a human-shaped hippopotamus, if you bother to know or go check their musculature
ogres are very hungry
ogres come from the east, slightly west of the not!china empire of warhammer, they began migrating west after they devoured so much in the region that the chinese sent a meteorite after them, devastating that part of the world, that meteorite formed a crater that the ogres worship as the great maw
ogres are very hungry
the meteorite wasn't a normal meteorite, and the crater isn't a normal crater, it's genuinely a god in the physical world, an abyss into the earth of hungry flesh and enormous teeth that bored to the other end of the world in a second similar abyss in the ocean
ogres are very hungry
the great maw is in the back of the mind of every ogre, they pay homage to it, they respect it, but it curses them with an unnatural hunger and sometimes even less natural compulsions, making the pilgrimage to reach the great maw and actually come back is difficult
>>
>>97887635
ogres are very hungry
a lean belly is a sign of weakness and abnormality in ogre society, kids born too slim are abandoned in caves where they become troglodytic savages, while large bellies are respected and admired
ogres are very hungry
ogre skin is thick enough, and the layers of fat and muscle even more so, that ogres don't really need armor for the most part, and they are so immune to pain that it's not uncommon for them to have very brutal "piercing", or even just knives and hooks piercing their skin as a convention way to carry things along
ogres are very hungry
the two pieces of armor they most often use are the gutplate and an armoured fist, only the butchers go without gutplate in their society
ogres are very hungry
ogres can digest pretty much anything, and if you can imagine their strongest stomachs as akin to natural cauldrons, then you won't be surprised by the fact ogre butchers practice gastromancy, culinary magic, where they devour (sometimes cook) magical ingredients as a mean to unleash spells
ogres are very hungry
ogres, like most other races of the world were uplifted by the unfathomably powerful god-like race known as the old ones, nobody truly remembers them, or knows this, but ogres were made as a last ditch attempt by this race to create a species that would be resistant to chaos, and while chaos ogres do exist, it takes so much exposure to chaos for an ogre before it starts manifesting mutations that it could be argued the old ones succeeded
>>
>>97887639
ogres are very hungry
you know who else is also very hungry? halflings, it's not exactly known, but halflings were uplifted in parallel with ogres and the two share a sort of natural kinship despite their differences
ogres are very hungry
you know who doesn't share a kinship with ogres? giants; the lands where ogres first live in was very much adjacent to the mountain kingdom of the skytitans, and before the chinese hurled a comet at the ogres, the ogres had laid siege to those mountains and devoured the giants. the giants that are left on the world are degenerated inbred descendants, smaller and dumber. and the ogres still take pleasure in breaking them and enslaving them
ogres are very hungry
ogres first saw gunpowder in those wars against the giants, because the giants employed enormous cannons against them, when the giants were toppled, the ogres repurposed to cannons, mounting them on heavy chariots. leadbelchers similarly repurpose smaller cannons, but they don't need chariots for those
ogres are very hungry
ogres don't have a written culture, they have oral traditions and tales and stories of ogres that made great things, amassing names and epithets to oneself is perhaps the second thing ogres most want to do after amassing food
ogres are very hungry

Anon, the smartest ogre alive is "nearly human" in terms of their intellect (and thats thanks to a magic crown).

Ogres arent trolls, but they are dumb.
>>

No, that was after. The ogres used to live in the plains near cathay alongside the humans, and were only forced into the mountains of the sky titans by the coming of the maw (and later forced from those peaks by weird weather).

Sounds like you have the spirit of things.

if youre worried about being too "one note" (which could end up the case if youre JUST "I eat things - the person") consider what quirks your leadbelcher has. Is he particularly trusting/does he have some sort of "Leader"/"manager" in the party? Is he particularly mercenary, a miser who will shake everyone down for all theyre worth? Is he particularly open minded and tries to mimic what others do (even if probably superficially/without really "getting it")?

But yea: Big bastard, likes to eat, likes to fight. Sounds like you get it.
>>
>>97887741
In the first Cathay AJ it outlines that the Ogres had started to encroach onto Sky Titan territory prior to the meteor, prompting the Dragon Emperor to share the secret of black powder with them to try and push them back. The meteor came after to help them out because things weren’t getting better, but it ended up pushing all the ogres into Sky Titan territory, eventually overrunning their fortresses and wiping them out. Considering Ogres got their magic from the Great Maw, caused by the meteor, and their guns and siege cannons from the Sky Titans, Cathay is responsible for unleashing quite the menace of a faction onto The Old World and I’m surprised it was sort of just glossed over. Maybe if Ogres get introduced into the game proper they’ll address it lmao.
>>
>>97888188
I have not read that. But prior lore is pretty clear: The Dragon Emperor summoned the Maw because ogres kept eating cathayan peasants, their homeland (and most of their race) destroyed the Ogres were forced into the sky-titan peaks where they encountered and eventually devoured the solitary giants until magically destructive weather forced them even further into the mountains of mourn.

>and a seat of low prestige.
It feels like you're shooting yourself in the foot by defining the place as not being of particular renown and prestige and then base both of the elven brothers' stories about the claim of this place.
If I were to add or revise something I'd try to make their deal a much more personal affair, so hear me out
>the younger brother was actually the firstborn between the two, but he was born with magical potential, so the parents faked whatever birth certificate dark elves have and sent him as hostage so he wouldn't get killed due to malekith's laws
now the "younger" brother has a much more personal vendetta against your dude because in his eyes he would feel robbed of his life (being male wizard hostage in the cult of khaine must not be very comfortable. and in true DE egocentrism he wouldn't stop to consider the inner causes of how his life turned, namely his wizard powers, but only the external actors: his parents for not finding a better way to cheat the system, and his brother for living the life meant for him)

and on the other side of this rivalry I think your dude's real interest in the location could be stronger; you say he was thought to be dabbling in dark things that were around the place, perhaps getting dethroned made him lose access to those and that's the real treasure he's after, more than the prestige of the tower. or furthermore losing those sites could be why he had to escalate his dealings with chaos, maybe he was already making pacts with slaanesh but those weirder ruins gave him an edge in the interactions so he wouldn't need to dip too much into chaos shit personally, so now his soul is without those leverages and he's forced to serve directly until he gets back to his antique toys and their fix.

also I don't think I've seen one of the two monsters he rides, the text isn't descriptive there, I assume you're the guy with the fell beast conversion

Yes, also a carnosaur (one of the old ones), which really feels more about the size of what the cold ones are described as in the malus darkblade books. So thats the cold one.

As for the other suggestions/notes? Ill keep them in mind. I made Kar Khareth "minor" because for one thing I didnt want as much baggage about established politics, and a smaller fortress far out east feelt like a good way to have a "bottle setting" in a sense. Plus it feels quite dark elven to have a big feud over some sad fucking chunk of rock in the midle of the wastes whos main purpose nowadays is to stop chaos barbarians from reaching anywhere nicer. Its like Naggor I guess.

Making his brother the actual elder and a dark wizard could be interesting, even if having him be "actually the rightful heir" adds something to the dynamic too imo. "A younger brother deposed by a powerful older sibling with dark powers" and "the older and more conventionally powerful sibling overthrown by a younger sniveling wretch" are a bit different as far relationships go. But I do think its a good call to add a bit more to "why he wants to come back".

The "dabbling in dark powers" thing was in my head a lie, the sort of slander someone might spread to forment dissent about someone. I could imagine his younger sibling dropping hints that he/his father were actually dabbling in the sorcerous arts or chaos cultists or something, just enough to present a cassus belli for those with axes to grind anyways. But making it true could also be cool, maybe his expeditions up north produced some interesting finds and he started getting into that shit.
>>
What kind of goals and personality would you give to a Tomb Kings society-centric story? I am going to have some living people among them from Numas but I'm also going to make Settra the Imperishable a bit of a substitute father figure for a young girl. I do intend for him to be big in his goals but not some incompetent dude who wants to be praised for doing nothing but be praised for doing awesome. He still wants everything that called promised him in life and he does not want his subjects to a main mindless and tomaton in general among his average Tomb people.
>>
>>97888658
Not really. Summoning the maw, like summoning tidal waves (another thing he has been known to do) is a "get of my lawn" move against forces cathay cant fight conventionally (like the dark elves).

The Maw (if "The Maw" was even the intended summon, and not just "a meteor") was meant to kill the ogres, and it did, them fleeing to the peaks of the sky titans and subsequently killing them was an unintended consequence which the dragon emperor had both no real ways of stopping or knowing would happen.
There was also no real connection between cathay and the sky titans (until now I guess).

At the end of the day the dragon emperor nuked them from orbit, if the survivors were enough to eat the sky titans theres not really much more he could have done had he not nuked them (because the Maw DID kill most of the ogres)

None. But in those books cold ones are multi-tonne behemoths. In the first book, a couple of berserk cold ones effortlessly smash through an entire phalanx like its not there, and in the chaos wastes Spite fights whole herds of beastmen.

In the game art proper (and models) theyre more horse size, still vicious but clearly more "velociraptor" tier. But in those books theyre true monstrous cavalry.

Compare that art to something like this. And remember Spite is supposed to be a smaller example of a cold one.

Its a "black library-ism", theyre obviously not actually that size "really" and its the books taking liberties, but since I had a conveniently cold one shaped mount of a monstrous cavalry size, I figured I may as well play into it. So instead of a dwarf carnosaur im saying hes riding a particularly big cold one (counts as Daemonic Mount)

If you can stand a 5-minute trip into goybook, I'd strongly suggest you look into Warhammer Renaissance, it's a fan created ruleset that merges the best parts of 4th & 5th, whilst adding some quality of life from 6th & 7th and filing off most of the jank. It has really comprehensive army lists for pretty much every army, it plays fast and feels like the oldies.
You can also find the magic and item card scans in the same group, they can be printed at home with little hassle.

kino, soul, will ask someone to try it out. Although theres no way its balanced right? Im sure you can build a chaos abomination that will kick a dragons ass.

Yea, doing some napkin maths you can build a chaos dragon (sans 2nd breath weapon) for 300~pts

Then for an extra 45pts you make it T10, and then you can add more wounds too. Or make it ignore armor saves (not that you NEED it at S7). The chaos abomination seems really good. As it should be I guess given its a "general unlock" in a warriors of chaos army and the other marks do quite a lot for you.

It's huge, particularly in 4th edition where both players can cast spells during each magic phase. Things are a bit random and break easily, but it's also loads of fun. There's over a hundred spells, though many of them have similar effects.
It's not exactly mandatory, but many armies can benefit a lot from using it.

Getting around the cards is pretty easy, you could just take a pack of regular playing cards and write on their faces (22 power, 8 dispels, 1 each of 6 unique cards).

As long as you have a pdf of the rules you can fill in the blanks no problem.

I say this as a beastman model poster that owns no centigors and has never played with them but if I were to I would give them ambush and great weapons.

GW thought it would be funny to make them initiative 2 so going down to I1 is basically no penalty at all, and spiking your drunk roll and hitting frenzy to double your now S6 AP2 attacks makes the unit actually slap for its points cost.

Ambush in as late as possible and crash into the flank of something already in combat or hunt a warmachine or something.

Chaos is historically pretty cheap. The army box gives you a lot of warriors and knights and both are expensive.

A lord on dragon (which you will often field because its one of their few "good" units) is also like 1/4 of your army in pts.
>>
>>97890626
>>97890919
Im the beastwomen player and centigors are wildly under rated. I run the following:

Beastmen Brayherds [341 pts]
Warhoof, Heavy armour, Throwing axes, Shield, Ambushers, Mangelder, Pelt of Midnight - 168
7 Centigor Herd, Great weapons, Throwing axes, Ambushers, Gorehoof (champion) [Scourge of the Burdened] - 173

They operate as a backbone ambush unit to running conjunction with everything else. Scourge of the burdened helps everything that can ambush in some degree, and goes off fairly regularly. Move ungors into position, reposition centigors after shooting to be out of sight. And if you do end up frenzy, you get terror checks and a 17" charge range with warband with 360 degree view. It demands to be answered, and against beastmen which also have crashing front line it causes complex choice.
>>97891273
Susceptibility to magic is their biggest problem, but yes fragility in general. But that's basically all beastmen. They don't do defense.
