I don’t have a local war gaming group per se, but I managed to get my brother, father, and small group of friends quite interested. It helps too that I prefer Zerg, my father Terran and my brother Protoss. With all three founder’s sets + elite options it will be easy enough to set up prefab army lists and undertake demo skirmishes with other friends invited over. That’s my plan.
The primary thing I’m puzzling over is how I should set up the terrain pieces in a way that is well designed for both Shooter and CQC focused armies and in a way that doesn’t interfere with objective marker placement
>>97943070I don't think it matters much yet. You have two armies with melee units and one with none at all on a standard board size that's pretty small. It will turn into melee brawls 100% of the time unless you're intentionally playing like a silly bastard.
>>97942337>TQI know a few people of various ages, between 25 and 40, that are super interested in the game so there's a decent amount of chatter relating to it at the LGS.
Terrans need the firebat and the HERC for their melee element.
>>97943559Predators would be nice. Those cat robots from the SC2 campaign meant to counter zergling swarms.
>>97942337>Jacked off and good to go!What did he mean by this?
>>97943702kek
>>97943702Dem Protoss thighs can get an unprepared man killed.
>>97944005Zamn what she be doing wit all dat?!
>>97943637This game should've gone all in on the obscure dumb units right off the bat to appeal to players of others tmg's instead of banking purely on Starcraftfags. Its nearly as big of a blunder as fucking over retailers.
>>97944245Trying Too Hard.
>TQA fair bit. Half-a-dozen people went ham with pre-orders, and a dozen or so are interested but want to try the system out before committing.
>>97944338Too Hard to Try.
>>97942337A few grogs are interested and, to my shock, some of the 40kiddies want to give it a look.
I played Warhammerr Fantasy on my youth, and now I might go back to at least collect and paint some miniatures, GW or not. And this have cached my eye! Possibly I will try to get some Protoss minis and I will try if I find any people to play with.Thinking of either or mix of Daelam and Ihan-Rii (Hope a set of this happens in the future) as paint set.
>>97944149Sitting out 3/4ths of the campaign.
>>97944338Hard Trying Too
>>97942337>I got yer Zerg right here!>Thank god for cold fusion
>>97946089
What named characters could the Zerg get beyond the main cast of SC2? Ghost Duran? A Cerebrate? Amanda Haley?
>>97942337Why are the models so expensive? They look like bad 3d prints
>>97946821>Amanda Haley? That'll never happen but it'd be a lore deep cut I'd be quite happy to see.
>>97946090
>>97946821Zagara, Abathur, Dehaka, Stukov and Kerrigan is frankly plenty of heroes to stretch releases for years. Terrans would get Swann, Han & Horder (except they never go outside their battlecruiser), Tychus, Mengsk and Raynor. Stedtmann is mechazerg, so he'd be a unique subfaction.
>>97942337>TQDon't know really, if you don't count a bit of proxy 40k and bootleg mordheim years ago I'm complete newfag, but my friends are very interested in playing with my minis.>>97946821Named Queens other than Zagara, primal leaders, infested Hanson
>>97946089>dude gets killed and yoinked in a genuinely horrible way>marines just calmly go alert and lay down fire as soon as contact is confirmed>only one who freaks out is the combat engineer and even he still nuts up enough to blow the bomb when one of the marines tells him to
Can someone explain to me how the starcraft tabletop is any different from any other tabletop? Does it do anything neat?>>97947743Hell yeah. I love how detailed everyone's armor is in that cinematic too. Mr Big has all sorts of things on his armor.
>>97947913>Can someone explain to me how the starcraft tabletop is any different from any other tabletop? Its a lot simpler and very streamlined. Its selling point is alternating activation and simpler movement rules with trickle in deployment. Basically the other end of the spectrum from Infinity, which I wish I knew about before I pre-ordered a starter set because I like turboautistically complex games better. Yet no one around me plays anything but magic the gathering and 40k anyway so I guess it doesn't matter, its just for the novelty of the models either way and they look pretty great.
>>97947913When we played a Starcraft TTRPG (the leovaunt one), I went into some length describing how my dude personalized his hardskin. One particular trait was an etched-on bullseye on his helmet. He was shot nearly fatally in the head twice.
>>97947913>Can someone explain to me how the starcraft tabletop is any different from any other tabletop? Does it do anything neat?i think the biggest thing is how it plays around with deployment (you get to deploy more and more supply every turn) and out of bound building and faction cards that give you army wide abilities so you have stuff like medivac evac that can get a unit out of the battlefield in a bad situation and then you can deploy them next turn again, zerg creep with boni... not sure what protoss can doand they will release more of those with the subfactions
>>97947913Deployment and army building is the biggest thing it does differently.
>>97945532Selendis is literally the main character of the SC1 and Broodwar Protoss campaigns?
>>97949031Wait fr?
>>97949031>>97949341Artanis is the Executor from the base gameSelendis is implied to be the Executor from Brood War
>>97949341>>97949031The Dark Templar Saga books say Selendis is the Protoss player character in Broodwar and maybe SC1 but it's also said/suggested Artanis is SC1's player character
>>97949367This was a gay decision, btw, to retcon, write out, and kill the PC. I guess they couldn't stand the idea of anyone out there who could steal Kerrigan Sue's tactical thunder.
>>97947913List building is separated between minerals and vespene gas. The former are really just points that buy units and upgrades, the latter are your cards with abilities, also the equivalent of unlocking FOC slots. You also choose two mission and deployment cards along with the other player and eliminate them in a draft. The turn-based structure is like what if MESBG was alternating activations, so everyone moves their shit before going into the assault phase, and passing nets you priority.Supply however, deliberately bottlenecks what you can bring from reserves each phase, dependent on the mission, and also acts like an objective control score, probably since larger units costs more of it too. Other notable traits not present in something like 40k is a style of movement where you just move one model and then consolidate the rest of the squad around them in coherency, while units and also cover have a set height value.
To be honest, I will likely end up using my terrans for 40k more than for actual starcraft.
>>97949341This was a retcon for sc2, so you can safely ignore it. Selendis is never mentioned in SC/BW, or Artanis in SC.
>>97949517I don't mind the fact the faceless commanders of SC1 were given characters in the lore.
>>97951197>ONLY CHARACTERS INTRODUCED IN THE FIRST 5 MINUTES OF GAMEPLAY ARE CANON!Ok retard.

>>97951665>>>97951625>>The faceless, no personality goy is a cool characteryeah I mean I get how from your perspective a named character is better
>>97951575If you rotate the dragoon chassis so it isn't aligned diagonally with the map you automatically lose the game.
>>97951682Trying Too Hard anon is just trying to be the general meme, its hard to tell whether its ironic or he's genuinely a gestating lolcow.

>>97947913The main thing dome different by the SC TMG is army comp and how you deploy said army.
