I don’t have a local war gaming group per se, but I managed to get my brother, father, and small group of friends quite interested. It helps too that I prefer Zerg, my father Terran and my brother Protoss. With all three founder’s sets + elite options it will be easy enough to set up prefab army lists and undertake demo skirmishes with other friends invited over. That’s my plan.
The primary thing I’m puzzling over is how I should set up the terrain pieces in a way that is well designed for both Shooter and CQC focused armies and in a way that doesn’t interfere with objective marker placement
>>97943070I don't think it matters much yet. You have two armies with melee units and one with none at all on a standard board size that's pretty small. It will turn into melee brawls 100% of the time unless you're intentionally playing like a silly bastard.
>>97942337>TQI know a few people of various ages, between 25 and 40, that are super interested in the game so there's a decent amount of chatter relating to it at the LGS.
Terrans need the firebat and the HERC for their melee element.

I played Warhammerr Fantasy on my youth, and now I might go back to at least collect and paint some miniatures, GW or not. And this have cached my eye! Possibly I will try to get some Protoss minis and I will try if I find any people to play with.Thinking of either or mix of Daelam and Ihan-Rii (Hope a set of this happens in the future) as paint set.

Can someone explain to me how the starcraft tabletop is any different from any other tabletop? Does it do anything neat?>>97947743Hell yeah. I love how detailed everyone's armor is in that cinematic too. Mr Big has all sorts of things on his armor.
>>97947913>Can someone explain to me how the starcraft tabletop is any different from any other tabletop? Its a lot simpler and very streamlined. Its selling point is alternating activation and simpler movement rules with trickle in deployment. Basically the other end of the spectrum from Infinity, which I wish I knew about before I pre-ordered a starter set because I like turboautistically complex games better. Yet no one around me plays anything but magic the gathering and 40k anyway so I guess it doesn't matter, its just for the novelty of the models either way and they look pretty great.
>>97947913>Can someone explain to me how the starcraft tabletop is any different from any other tabletop? Does it do anything neat?i think the biggest thing is how it plays around with deployment (you get to deploy more and more supply every turn) and out of bound building and faction cards that give you army wide abilities so you have stuff like medivac evac that can get a unit out of the battlefield in a bad situation and then you can deploy them next turn again, zerg creep with boni... not sure what protoss can doand they will release more of those with the subfactions
>>97947913Deployment and army building is the biggest thing it does differently.
>>97945532Selendis is literally the main character of the SC1 and Broodwar Protoss campaigns?
>>97949031Wait fr?
>>97949031>>97949341Artanis is the Executor from the base gameSelendis is implied to be the Executor from Brood War
>>97949341>>97949031The Dark Templar Saga books say Selendis is the Protoss player character in Broodwar and maybe SC1 but it's also said/suggested Artanis is SC1's player character
>>97947913List building is separated between minerals and vespene gas. The former are really just points that buy units and upgrades, the latter are your cards with abilities, also the equivalent of unlocking FOC slots. You also choose two mission and deployment cards along with the other player and eliminate them in a draft. The turn-based structure is like what if MESBG was alternating activations, so everyone moves their shit before going into the assault phase, and passing nets you priority.Supply however, deliberately bottlenecks what you can bring from reserves each phase, dependent on the mission, and also acts like an objective control score, probably since larger units costs more of it too. Other notable traits not present in something like 40k is a style of movement where you just move one model and then consolidate the rest of the squad around them in coherency, while units and also cover have a set height value.
To be honest, I will likely end up using my terrans for 40k more than for actual starcraft.
>>97949341This was a retcon for sc2, so you can safely ignore it. Selendis is never mentioned in SC/BW, or Artanis in SC.

>>97959903Oh I love the green dude in the bottom right
>>97958123They've said nothing about them as far as I know but they're both iconic and a perfect model for Archon's clear plastic fetish so will be certainly be coming.
>>97958123My guess is that they’re taking an extra amount of time to figure out the implementation of kamikaze units in such a game. Might be tricky to get right with how deployment and supply work. Balancing them to be good, but not OP nor dogwater is going to be on a knife’s edge
>>97961872Suicide units are always terrible in tabletop and will be especially so in this one with how the rules work. They'll likely be something you just morph one or two zerglings into for extra attack dice on their next charge so they're actually useful.
>>97962273>>97961872It seems pretty simple to me. They're a unit with a shitton of Impact Hits that hit on a 2+ and are able to fuck up armour, but are removed from the table following said Impact.

>>97942337I'm not getting into it right nowso far the batreps make it look like the same game over and over againits in a weird place, its doesn't have enough units for larger battles to feel epicand the units we have now don't feel like they bring that many tactics for games with the current small number of modelsI'll keep playing the Board game for now
Do I equip all my marine squads with shotguns and rocket launchers? Not that my stuff is arriving until July or so, but yeah.
>>97967810Maybe the license was piecemeal or full of caveats, I don't know, but they just don't seem all that invested in their own product so far. None of the stuff you'd expect from a typical tmg launch is even being talked about by Archon. They're treating it like a limited production collectible toyline and not a hobby thing so far, aside from making a bigger fuss about rules and accessibility than is necessary for the market it wants. Could be worse though, at least its not Warcrow, holy shit what a joke.
So we know when the stuff will be delivered or even shipped? My local shop has a launch event this Friday and doesn’t believe me when I say he absolutely will not have product for it
I do wish they tried a bit more to emulated the game, with on the map minerals and more wave based spawning
>>97968627Shipping was scheduled for the end of Q2 but now they say they'll start next month. It'll take some time to ship everything though. Archon's biggest weakness is the logistics, especially now when everything is fucked because of the oil price.>>97968673What would you want to do with these crystals? >>97968784Minerals on the map could be used for buying reinforcements, or maybe upgrading reinforcements to better units. Having the game be only 4 rounds long I think really did them wrong in terms of what you can do creatively, it should have been more like 12 turns with less done on each so they are fast. Or maybe it could mean more activations per turn. Having units in Star craft is also a feels wrong, because that’s not how it played. I hate to say it but the infinity order system is honestly rather suited for StarCraft.
>>97970451i'll be honest.. that is way more than i thought. I posted a while ago that i think its some years to late to do a starcraft wargame, but apparently there is still a market for it.
>>97970451>Conservative estimate of ~2 months for full deliveryCounting the time before they start sending boxes out or 2 months starting 25th may?Because ima be mad if I have to wait 3 months to get my box when all my friends can already play cos they all went to events...
>>97970451On one hand this sounds like long-term support is very much secured, but the other part is whether one can even get the models by virtue of demand. How well has Archon's other games sold comparatively?
>>97971072Archon should have the production capacity. They are manufacturing for both Mantic Games and Conquest as well as their own stuff. So far, i have not seen anything they make as out of stock for long. But i wonder how many of those 300k boxes were ordered from LGS, where they might end up collecting dust.
I’m really worried about what type of players will come to this game. It’s either going to be the cringy conquestfags that plagued and ruined games like malifaux and trench crusade, or the 40Kbros who are gonna get sweaty. I don’t want either but I think I’d prefer the 40Kbros over the woke hipster faggots
>>97969677>No they're not lmfaoMan there is so much that's not there that should be if they want to compete with other games, but like I said that's likely because of the terms of the license. Maybe Blizzard stipulated 'don't do any of that nerd shit we don't want it to be for 40k chuds just MLG ready elite gaymers that respect pronouns and don't care about gay hobby shit!' because as you surely know by now Blizzard is that batshit crazy and divorced from reality. You could feel the tension and awkwardness in the AMA when they were asked about how well they get along with Blizzard.
>>97967810I also think they made the scale way too big, these models are huge. A table to play a big game on would need to be like 8x6’ which is basically too large to reach the center of.
>>97970451>300k boxes sold from pre-orders>95k Founder Boxes sold>Archon just got three new injection machines to help with productionGod damn. Looks like they game's got a decent amount of life after all. Nice to see.
>>97971167I don't see 40k bros touching it beyond coming over to the table and going, "Actshually, Starcraft was going to be a 40k game."
So how many of you are painting your marines like the amerigo squad?
>>97973549Your post just made me realize that while in game each faction has a distinctive color. It seems that at least terran soldiers tend to customize their armors however they want regardless of faction.Just look at that UED marine in the trench with the LED lights on his shoulderpad
>>97974393You mean the ones from the Brood War opening? Aren't they Terran colonists?
>>97974634I don't know, since the UED Battlecruiser was there and the guy on the ground pointed at it as it being the air support, I assumed it was some kind of test to study the Zerg on their own troops.
>>97970456>>97970451Gib now plz
Are they going to release s9me SC1 Zerg units or wat?
>>97977660They already have? Zerglings? Hydralisks? Kerrigan? They're releasing Mutas. Tf you asking?
>>97974719Nah, the coms guy tells Durand that the colony is going to be overwhelmed if they don't do anything and Durand tells them to GTFO. I'm assuming that the UED was just watching zerg eat some random bumfuck outpost. My headcannon is that Confederate forces and Raynor’s Raiders are full on customise armour marines. I would like to think that in Confederate times suping up a set of power armour was just like a thing guys did, like hot-rodding cars. The Raiders like taking souvenirs and customising armour based on missions they've run with the OG raiders being covered in random shit and graffiti. UED and Dominion forces would be pretty sterile in comparison.
>>97977660They are.
>>97978350Marines are reconditioned criminals used as front line heavy infantry so they're all probably more individualistic than your usual soldiers but I have no idea if Blizzard kept that tidbit of lore after the first game or if all the other factions still practice penal conscription. It is a pretty smart way to empty your prisons and solve multiple problems at once.
>>97979801Most Marines are still criminals until a good bit after the end of SC2 when Valerian starts a drive to recruit "normal" people into the military as well.
>>97981094And even then the majority of the military is made up of brainwashed and reconditioned criminals.

>>97982077Like a big template you just toss down?

>>97983889More ornate head carapace and it slightly taller.Duh.
>>97946821You could use the elite strains. Tarrasque Devouring One, Hunter Killer etc. If you need them tied to a specific hero, you could have the cerebrate which can be sniped by DTs but otherwise respawns, with some sort of buff when active.
>>97946821We don't need more heroes. This game does not need to become hero centric. Focus on bringing out units so that the few planned heroes have lots of build variety in themselves.
>>97986746>We don't need more heroesWrong.
>>97986878Needs more heroes and also custom commanders because I don't actually like any of the heroes unless maybe Mengsk gets a model. >>98003763>Yeah jim raynor is leading this squad temporarily because of (Insert random reason here)Based /yourdudes/ player
The Protoss seem fun to play. Haven't seen anything in the Terran or Zerg rules that looks interesting.
>>98003763>but my armies will be my own colour scheme>not painting each marine differently>ngmi
>>98004766Zerg seem the most fun to me due to the Creep spreading mechanic tbhon
Hydralisks seem too strong to me, am I crazy? Above average surgivavity with the 4 wounds. Roa 3 3+ surge light & Rmored d3+1 with damage 2, they get to burrow ambush so can be placed in range of anything there ant and can likely kill or badly damage most units when they arrive? Feels like their ranged shoulda been range 8 phase with the long range upgrade kicking it to 12, and making it a 4+ base to hit not a 3+ with the surge and damage they can still reliably get good damage out
>>98006701While it makes sense Zerg and Protoss would have more in-depth ablities, I do have to wonder if the (somewhat fitting) generic nature of the Terrans will make them boring to play.
>>98011361Makes them an excellent beginner faction though. It's pretty much why much reviled as they are Space Marines make an excellent starting point for new players. That and the addition of factions down the line means that you can make them complex easily by introducing things like whacky UED rules or Umojan Protectorate.
>>98004766yeah the Terrans feel empty without their mobile structures and bunkersthey need to fill in that gap with something that works on this scale of gameplay something that might not work in the video game like giving them flags and coolers full of beer to give them bonuses
>>98011969I think letting them place an impassable piece of terrain could be cool to represent a building blocker. The drop ship card is cool but they probably need a better/more expensive version that can let it deploy things to didn’t more quickly instead of end of round
>>98011678>Makes them an excellent beginner faction though. They're the worst beginner faction. Its not straight forward to play them because you look at the mission types and your first instinct is to think you need to prioritize capturing objectives. In some cases this might be what you should do, but it usually isn't and its better to get in good positions to shoot as much as possible and score by removing models from the table. This almost feels impolite, even disrespectful to do because it doesn't seem how its meant to be played at a glance. I'd recommend zerg because they can score any way you want to and it doesn't feel like you're being that guy.>>98011969I would really like to see picrel as a cannon fodder option like zerglings that suck pretty bad but can make entrenchments like bunkers. With Mengsk conscript bits or bits for a more generic militia volunteer build for Raynor's raiders or generic terrans.
>>98010530so i actually find them squishy, 8 wounds for a minimum squad that takes up 2 supply is a lot of ressources. They could easily get shot out in a round of shooting if they are badly positioned, Also i wouldnt put much faith in the burrow mechanic as i would expect nearly every list to have some sort of detection though you could either bait them with the burrow or if your opponent passes the turn first and you have the rest of the phase to do whatever you want. Though again the fact that they are worth 2 supply you are probably going to pass before your opponent unless its late game. They are a glass canon and mostly a one use before your opponent eradicates them from orbite with everything they have.>>98012064>need a better/more expensive version that can let it deploy things to didn’t more quickly instead of end of roundso i think a card that allows you to get the next turn's supply increase early but you have to a) use a command card and b) you wouldnt get the increase on the next turn would work quite well.

I do really like that Burrow is finally a useful core mechanic for Zerg in this game. In both 1 and 2, burrow only had fringe use cases outside of lurkers, roach micro, occasionally saving some drones and giving Zerg more aesthetic entrances in the campaigns. But now it’s a great tool for regular use to allow your Zerg to get to the front line mostly safely.

At this moment, I kinda like how having the “”armored”” tag doesn’t feel like a straight up liability like in the video game with the increased emphasis on light surge. Roaches can actually take pride in their ability to laugh off marine shots and necessitate marauders like what should have been the case in SC2. We’ll see how long that lasts however once Immortals and Siegetanks enter the fray.
>>98027902I hope the Immortals remain a terror of the battlefield like they were in SC2.

>>98052053>I don't get this release line upThey don't plan on actually getting that far I think. Nothing about the game we have now hints it was intended to ever have flyers or artillery, boards are too small, deployment rules are too restrictive and wacky. It would be really easy to just model block big base units from ever deploying, ontop of objective based missions that make no sense to prioritize over killing models as armies get deadlier. It also doesn't make any sense to have a roadmap for a game that's already fully funded as they claim. Its clearly not and the roadmap is marketing bait they'll fulfill if and only when they manage to get enough money from initial sales. The fact they publicly made a big deal about how many they sold, as if their customers are Blizzard shareholders or something (lol,) tells me it was entirely performative to keep people from having second thoughts and refunding in the retardedly huge three month window before fulfillment and it was actually way below expectations. The whole release is a minefield of red flags to be honest. If you look at Archon's product line they just throw licensed IP shit at the wall but nothing ever sticks. To think they would, on their own, support a full big name tabletop game for years is pretty absurd the more you think about it.You'll get your first wave models for sure, but I really wouldn't get my hopes up for anything after that. It would be incredibly easy for them to just be like 'oh noes big evil Blizzard pulled our license sowwy :(' and just be absolved of all obligation to continue supporting the game with new releases, when really it just wasn't the cashcow they thought it'd be. Also remember they are poles with kielbasa for brains.
>>98052493I'll just take any model I can get and use them for other game systems. I'm perfectly fine with that.
>>98052625So am I, I always wanted some good quality terran and zerg models and I'll give Archon that much credit. They look very nice and if it goes very well long term then I'll be pleasantly surprised.
>>98051934>no veterans of Tarsonis equivalentwhy did the Marauders get that? they weren't even a thing on Tarsonisno one else got a flavorful upgrade like thatwas it just for the memerberries? "hey remember Tarsonis"seems like something would keep for the merchs from the Wol campaign
>>98054871I'm guessing it's a fluffy way of saying they're veterans which is why they're better than the standard Marines.
>>98052493>boards are too small,Board size increases as point limits go up.
>>98055035Hush. He wants to complain.
