Gonna slowly build them up, first as add-ons for my CSM, then part of a larger chaos knights iconoclast fiefdom force, and then into a full fledged army that I can either run as IG or pull infantry from to support the previous two armies if GW doesn't wanna get off their ass and make a proper codex or supplement for them.

>>97947074Traitor Guard. Although I don't really care about official endorsement from GW anymore. IG rules and models with extra spikes works well enough. We had rules until 10th btw.

>>97947208space wolves all suffer from immunodeficiency, and so are very weak. the marines malevolent could have killed them all with his bare hands, but he chose to be merciful and gave them a quick death.
>>97947221I'll be interested in how the 11th box changes the player-per-army counts. Necrons and tyranids have been stomping Orks lately due to their launch boxes, but I'm willing to put money down that Orks are going to reach the top with this one coming out.I mean, everyone who knows about 40k knows about Orks. Theyre like the de facto xenos to the setting.
>>97947233Starter boxes always push a faction through the roof. Death Guard is still the most popular Chaos faction and it's been nine years since their starter.
>>97947205Scale is pretty much identical, but the necks are shaped weirdly on the GW traitor guard. From their heads, you need to cut away a good bit, but also the holes in their torsos need some filling to glue the WGA heads onto there. Here is a pic i did a couple days ago.
>>97947239Very true. I'm more curious to see if Orks will top necrons' lead. They're still the top currently if I'm correct. Not only were they a launch box but they were a launch box during the covid times where everyone was getting into nerd hobbies. They got a huge advantage due to that.

>>97947251yeah, that entire pic looks awkward. those orks are way too close up that dude with the plasma gun that isn’t raised up yet is 100% going to have his head caved in before he can fire. would be way better to have the guard on the high ground like over some taller stairs to get, or at least have the ork running with the choppa coming after the dude with the energy sword to make it look like the kasirkin is ready to parry the blow.

Notice how everything that was shown in the rules articles was mentioned before in the preview. Notice what instead has never been mentioned.

>>97947944Currently, the defender's Fights First goes off before the attackers. So if you have it, you're basically un-chargable because you'll always swing before your opponent gets to.This is changing in 11th where the attacker's Fights First will trigger before the defenders.Frankly, I'd rather see them go back to the old way of Initiative. But barring that, two units with Fights First should attack at the same time. They'd likely wipe each other out but that's the cost of the cancer of units with 40+ attacks.

Bring Vashtorr and/or chaos knights for extra flavour.
>>97947944Fighting in both the fights first/regular phases start with the non-active player, so a Fights First unit will fight ahead of anything charging, whether it was charged or sits slightly behind the charge target as a heroic threat, so it significantly complicates the game plan of any melee army an especially of a hybrid army that only has a few charge threats.>>97947966Charge already gives Fights First, but 11e is changing the fight order so that one charging unit at least gets to fight immediately (which is also how it worked in 8e/9e; 10e buffed the rule significantly).
>>97947962I don't want the old initiative back, but a simplified one where 99% of the units starts with 1, charging gives +1 and units with fight first get another +1 (and you have some things that can give -1) would make everything clearer.

>>97947983Eh, I think the granularity of the old way was better. And giving a bonus on charge I think is great. I really like how Old World handles it where the charger gets +1 to their Initiative for each inch they move in a charge, up to +3 to the total. Which allows even basic humans to get a boost over basic elves.Which also would help because standard human was I3, Space Marines I4, Eldar I5, Orks relied on their numbers and toughness to survive long enough get their I2 attacks in.

>>97948014>It's the degrading armour saves which is why I think the 2W was necessary to address the toughness idea.Nah, it was GW giving primaris inflated stats so they were straight up better than regular marines. Same reason they have bolt rifles, plasma incinerators and pyreblasters that are just +1 versions of the old weapons instead of either using the old weapons as is or buffing them. Same reason blade guard when they came out had 3 wounds for no fucking reason.
>>97948015I haven't played much of HH3.0, but while I do like the idea of some weapons giving bonuses or penalties to initiative, I do think the charge itself should be the defining factor.

>>97948546Anon you have so many orks you could pay a year of your son college life by selling them alone, you are not a warboss, you do not need more

>>97948528>unless it's another SM subcodex or some IG subfaction.or rebels of the imperium that don't belong to chaos, nids or tau, but only themselves, the sensei and the starchild.
>>97948536yea you also have to think and seek out resources and develop good taste obviously, if you just mindlessly slapchop 300 minis you will improve only a small fraction of what someone who tried their best on 10 individual models would, but it's not like there's some crazy secret method to learning skills. You learn and apply and experiment.
>>97948553That’s what wave serpents used to look like
>>97948560I mean the idea itself can be cool and work but how do you differentiate them gameplaywise? You can't just say "they use guns more" because the T'au already do that
>>97948552I actually considered selling them and starting again. Would help with the mental feeling that there is just too much to tackle. It's a lot of the old boy models so I'd be OK with getting the newer sculpts.
Anons I am working on my Knight Destrier right now and with a complete lack of suitable 150mm oval base toppers around to use I'm gonna build my own terrain instead. My other knights are built on the ruins of an Imperial city, think stuff like Sector Imperialis terrain, old broken statues, and lots of tile floors and roads. Right now the Destrier is in a mid running pose (Left leg is glued in place planted firm to the ground, the right leg is somewhat free moving but the lowest point rests an inch or two off the ground depending on how I move it) making a charge with the thundershock spear, kinda like it just landed on the left leg. I have some room for it to be jumping/walking/whatever over something, what should I use for the debris that it's jumping over?>A cut-up junker Chimera (Either the back or one of the sides) with a dead Guardsman or 2 nearby>A 3D printed Centaur (The old one)>A cut-up 3D printed containerI have all the 3D printed stuff already, I'd just have to saw it at an angle to fit the base.
>>97948572With the new edition it be the perfect time to do thatmaybe keep a few of your most rare ones or the ones you prefer and sell the others
>>97948569asymmetrical warfare and guerrilla tactics but without the melee and numbers of genecults
I want to start an Imperium army. What should I go for? I’m ruling out imperial guard because I don’t like them and imperial agents (on their own) because they aren’t a real army.
>>97948530An episodic TV series about a Rogue Trader or an Inquisitor dealing with a problem of the week while some background plot also goes on all season long could be easily done but TV series like that don't exist anymore.
>>97948546That's just nuts, you could probably just get someone to commission paint them for you at this point, although that would cost a fortune

>>97948609? Admech has more shit than drukhari or gsc.

>>97948588More like>surf dracula>dracula surfs in the first two episodes but the season slowly devolves into a side plot about the bride of frankenstien that no one likes or cares about and that takes up the majority of the runtime

>>97948537I have a full storage room of sprues bought on the secondary market. I honestly may have 10000pts of CSM alone still on sprues.
>>97948581Well you should start a Guard ar->I’m ruling out imperial guard because I don’t like them OK well in that case>Vanilla MarinesEveryone has some sort of Marine list at some point in their life, and you could start with the marine half of the new Launch Box>Chapter Specific MarinesDepends on your playstyle, if you don't have a Melee army yet Black Templars might be cool. Just avoid Grey Knights for now since they're 100% getting a refresh next edition and Space Wolves at all costs >SistersI'm personally not a fan, but if that floats your vibe then do it. Just know you'll be doing a fuckton of painting with them to make them look good>CustodesSupposedly they're one of the cheapest and easiest armies to build, and definitely one of the easiest to paint. Get them if you like Gold>AdMechLol. Lmao even. If you don't want to do Guard then definitely don't look into AdMech>Imperial KnightsYou can do some real fun things with Knights kitbash/build wise, but just know you're a Stat-Check army for the most part.tl;dr You should just play Guard
>>97948609Admech have 34 DatasheetsCustodes have 12, of which half are either characters or Space Marine kits painted gold.
>>97948598In terms of play style, I enjoy something with at least some depth to it. I don’t want something that’s too simple/boring to play. Not very picky about the specifics beyond that.I would like to keep price down but price is secondary to how cool the army is. If the army looks cool I will have more fun painting it, which means I’m more willing to spend for it. Painting and playing both have to be enjoyable, though. I don’t want to painstakingly paint a giant hunk of dogshit.
>>97948639Fuck man thats straight up depressing, like anon I do have a large amount of orks but just about all of them were bought second hand and I have little to no use for most of them right now. Trying to get a bunch of shit finished before 11e but honestly I dont know what. Definitely not starting on the 100+ unpainted boyz I have if they are planning on refreshing them
>>97948581Space Wolves (AWWOOOOOO!!!!). Maybe knights if you're feeling it, but really you should start with space wolves.
>>97948658Decal bro....
>>97948653I don't mind mine room of shame since I keep selling parts of it away for much more than I spent on them back in the day. It really boils down to shit either hitting my hobby table first or ending up on the marketplace if I have time to take pictures.
>>97948103I like 1000, it's quicker and you can still get some varied lists made to try things out.
>>97948609>Wouldn't these arguments apply equally to Ad MechNo because Admech has a fuck load of units and models when compared to the Custodes. Also GW already separated 40k admech and 30k admech into separate things and they have vastly different design philosophies too.And for the forseeable future we can be certain that GW is NOT merging the ranges. At best we might get merging of the ranges in like 2032 during 13th edition. And this is based on the assumption that 40k even manages to get to 2032 without GW going bankcrupt or otherwise failing.
>>97948581Buy the 11th ed box and build some blood angels.
>>97948667The new Maelstrom stuff is legit fun for 1k games

>>97948632the gods say troll the materiumI agree
>>97948701Space marines are mere golems created for war. No better than a servitor.
What's the most bigbrain army to play?
>>97948652For depths you honestly can't go that wrong with most imperium factions, even normal ass Space Marines have so many units and so many different detachments that you can do tons of fun shit with them depending on what you wanna do. The baseline simplest Imperium faction is probably custodes just because you're fielding so few units, though to some extent this in itself also adds some strategy. For price, Space Marines/Custodes are probably about tied for cheapest, Space Marines since you can find tons of second hand shit on ebay or facebook marketplace and with the new edition about to launch they'll be getting a cheap launch box half that's a good starting point, Custodes because each model costs so many points that you don't need a lot to fill up an army.Ad Mech are the most expensive army in the game basically, the points-to-dollar ratio is just terrible. They're also fairly similar to Guard in terms of their mechanical identity, though their look is very different.I wouldn't really recommend Sisters, they're the kind of army where you would probably already know if they were your thing.I also don't think Knights are an ideal place to start 40k.Honestly, I'd probably recommend straight Space Marines, there's enough variety there that anyone should be well pleased overall. Look into some different chapters, see if anything specifically looks appealing to you.
>>97948719

>>97947074Both, but I'll take Dark Mech first.
>>97948935I am personally even an advocate for rolling the cult legions back into CSM, but the idea that 'Codex-compliant marines but with 10% more flamethrowers and 200% more melanin' are equally deserving to be their own faction as any of them is genuinely retarded.
>>97948914I don’t know how you’d do it, but I’d give him something in his other arm to represent the hour glass.
>>97948935>marines but green deserve a codex more than the most iconic chaos marines since 2nd editiongenuinely kill yourself retard

>>97947980Okay now how do I give the damned units weapons that aren't 3 0 1 plinkshit, since that doesn't exactly befit a high-tech factionAlso I don't like skitarii; if I liked skitarii I would not be asking for darkmech
>>97948935They are the monogod factions of 40k why wouldnt they get their own codex over some random marine chapter barely different from the other ones
Buying OoP miniature boxes is suffering, but the kitbashing must continue.
>>97948979Because it's not like they used to be more unique than say Alpha Legion or Iron Warriors. They got more differences because they got a codex they didn't get a codex because they had lot of differences.
>>97948898They are. Getting a single model or a shitty upgrade sprue every 10 years is the definition of neglect.

>>97948854Why are you on the toilet
>>97948999Because they didn't need any dedicated miniature at the beginning.
>>97948979>why wouldnt they get their own codexBecause in the past shit like world eaters were literally just you taking your regular CSM giving some of them chain axes, painting them red and brass and adding couple of berzerker models. That's it.DG, TS and EC weren't any different. Basically just CSM with 1 bespoke unit/half of a unit that you then souped into the army to make it "properly" world eaters or death guard.None of it was really "codex" worthy.
>>97948965World Eaters are literally CSM but red
>>97948979You say monogod factions like being monogod actually gave you more identity instead of being just CSM but limited.

>>97949032mongoloid
>>97949061removing the restriction won't improve sales.
>>97949052No, those were the effects of Chaos Marks. Every CSM could take a chaos mark, regardless of legion. God Legions were just "everyone has a specific mark of chaos".
>>97949067Anon please use your singular braincel. 99% of current marine players are primaris babies that don't have a single rhino. They haven't had a reason to buy one because they literally can't use it with the current restrictions. If they lift the restrictiins, then the entire practical playerbase of the army has a new transport with a unique niche that isn't filled by anything in the roster. That WILL improve sales even if by pure virtue of the restrictions making sales be zero already.

>>97949747Not returned to the game yet and fielding options. I would probably pick SoB since it's a flame themed army. Packing 3 flamer weapons in the unit would fit.
>>97949720many detachments have alternate ways to sticky objectives, but yes. the most basic unit for SM has sticky baked in.
>>97949760Depending on your goals with your army, bringing a squad of allies would be based. Sure competitive list building would disagree, but if you’re not going for that seriously I’d stick with the Sisters anyways.

I was looking into Moirax Armigers with their rad-claws(No benefit of having two but I'd do it anyway).Full fire theme. Because the SM codex can. Since the Baal Predator would lock you into Blood Angels for Chapter units, maybe look into the Sanguinary Guard for more flame options. Plus the Captain with Jump Pack that can lead them has the Heavy Flamer War Gear option as well.
