Done for the day, still shiny while its wet. Letting it dry some and I'll adjust the highlights and shadows once it dries and mattes out a little. Felt good to paint but its pretty irritating that my brush control has gone to shit. There is a lot of blue on this guy, but I thought it'd be funny to have an ork in a Canadian Tuxedo.
>>
>>97949694
Oh, and the boots look like shit since I only did one round of highlights/shadows since I'll need to touch them up and finish them anyway once they go on their bases, I'll be able to adjust the shadows and highlights on the bases at the same time since I'll have context once the mini is attached.

Finished painting up two more models for Advanced Heroquest. These are both from Dungeonquest 1st Edition, I used their respective card arts for their paint scheme, going slightly darker with the ogre to practice more swarthy skin. The ogre? half ogre? was named Ironhand the Mighty, the sorcerer is Azoth the Faceless. I posted Siegfried up top last week when I finished him.

Finally did the tentacles on these guys in a way that I'm satisfied. Will still give green stuff time to cure before I start adjusting the tentacle positions. However, I'm not sure if I should add something to the abdomen, as their torsos feel a bit too short at the moment. Maybe that'll disappear once I've reposed the tentacles.

Testing out a necron scheme. This isn't the cleanest work ever and I don't like how the glowing is turning out, I might rework that, but it was mostly to check the colors I plan to use on the final scheme, and I like how the general color turned out. The only problem now is that I think that part is technically supposed to be a different material than the necron armor, but oh well, test model is a test model.

Working on urak taar now. Decided to go with golden bull and purple wings. Not the best job done for the green runes but it's serviceable. The stupid ink kept becoming really watery through the airbrush on the model no matter what I seemed to do so the green glow is just a bit sloppy.

Oh yeah the glow is intentional, just the application isn't the best. Looking closely at a couple places there and on other areas of the model you can see where the green ink I was spraying got really watery and started to pool a bit. I tried my best to clean it up as it happened but there are places where it's just not great. Looks fine at table level though so that's what's important. I plan to make the throne and guy casting his spell the focal point so those will be done to a higher quality.

I've been interested in doing commissions as well since I had people expressing interest over it, but I'm too slow when trying to paint good looking stuff (which is what I'd want my customer to get) so I could never actually charge for my time, which would make it ultimately not worth it.

Anyway, working on some customized bladeguards. Not any big conversion this time, just a lot of scraping and eventually some chains, rivets and hoods. I plan to paint some simple heraldry on the shields, either mirroring their own tiny tilt plates or going for a different motif, we'll see

I want to kitbash a model that looks somewhat like this to run as a corsair felarch. Any ideas for what I can use as a base? Also are there any reasonable options for the hair aside from just sculpting it myself? I don't need it to be as long as in this picture at least.
>>
>>97952316

Yeah, they are. I picked them up based on your(?) recommendation. Tough to work with - maybe I need a more delicate super glue nozzle for such precise work. Along with very sharp and small drill heads. Already got a few ideas on using them for other miniatures.

Another kitbash, used a bunch of different parts. The helmet crest comes from a steam tank commanders power baton or whatever they call those things. Most of the plume is made of feathers from various empire kits (greatswords, crossbow/musket troops, state troops etc) with a few select parts from some historical cavalry kits. Perry.

The body of the lancer is wga halfling cavalry, the arms are a mixture of their renaissance heavy cavalry, and the helmet comes from their guard kit.

Finally, the chook itself comes from The Assault Group. They mostly make historical stuff, but also have a very characterful fantasy selection. I have shown off some of their halflings here before. It all leans heavily into the chunky old hammer aesthetic, for those that are into that sort of thing. Reliable company. Good castings. And they have a lot of cool greebles for conversions. All their renaissance stuff scales pretty well with old world/later whfb stuff. Same with the conquistadors and Renaissance heavy cav kits from WGA.

Looking forward to getting this guy cleaned up, and painted. Should be a good one. Might do him up in the chrome/black ink pinwash style. We'll see.

yep it was most likely me

Personally I use very thin super glue- I dab one end of a toothpick in it and just smear it a bit inside the drilled hole, while I keep the other end of the toothpick moistened with water to catch one bead and then deposit it in its hole

regarding the drill, I got one from amazon that it's honestly great compared to the slightly cheaper and bigger one I used before; it cost like 12 eur and it has super small and precise heads, down to 0.3 mm

I've an old drill I bought from green stuff world if I recall correctly. Sourcing smaller drill heads should be a pretty trivial thing. How do you put the microbeads into the models? I've tried hobby tweezers, but the beads are quite slippery, so I've mostly used my fingers, which isn't the most accurate way to apply them.

nta, there's dedicated 'pick and place' tools for tiny shit like that, wich are sticks with a silicon tip, however i fear those would get ruined by stray superglue but never actually tried them

personally what i use for rivets is wax pickers wich are just a pencil made of wax, you can buy them for cheap or get a candle and melt it into a paper straw, or a rolled piece of paper, and then sharpen it

both things are used in nail art and will probably be cheaper from there than hobby dedicated ones

Took some time over the weekend at work to paint this clear base for a Wizkids 'Pathfinder Deep Cuts - Gargantuan Adult White Dragon'. I used some of the exclusive Blanche paints along with APs Deep Blue-Greens.

I've been going over some of Hiroshige's aizome prints, which inspired me to paint the base as a bit of an ice shelf breaking off in to deep blue arctic water. I am going to add a layer of epoxy for water and ice, along with some snow and small ice mounds floating in the sea. I'm going to have to glue the dragon's tail directly to the base rather than using the original tiny pegs to achieve the effect, but I'm not worried about it.

Depends on the writer, like I know in books like Helsreach their weapons get broken towards the end of the siege since they ran out of juice to keep the power fields active and were fighting in their normal state. We've also seen power weapons shatter if they try to attack a powerfield that is stronger, or for just plot reasons. I can't remember the book but I distinctly remember some loyalist captain attacking a chaos marine with their power sword, but the chaos marine shattered it with their power fist.

I might try that out though as a separate thing using a plain flat base, would be good practice for shadowing.

They're bonding studs, makeshift reinforcement of damaged armor, became iconic for mk5 and mk6 armor because of the drain on resources the heresy was necessitating more repairs than replacements

In the lore they are molecular bonding studs. They are basically rivets for slapping together random scraps of armor. They're common on mk 5 heresy armor as supply lines went to shit during the heresy.

Hello guys, my first army in process.
Trying to do an ultimate color scheme for my alpha legionnaires.
I really like the true metallic metal from vallejo (here is a hydra turquoise), but I want to add purply-violety tint in shadows.
At the moment I think to try to experimenting with washing the thing with celestial violet shade and violet ak wash to see how it will look in comparison to each other.
Still dont know how to get a grimdarkier vibe. Want my boys to look worn and battered to some degree.
Can I ask for some clues? I hope some experienced maestro can guide me in the right direction.
Please, send help.

hopefully you are not using store bought pebbles or shipping them across the country, get one of these and steal some sand from your local playground then make a mix that pleases your eye
not too fine so it has no texture at all and not too coarse because you are painting a base not collection of scenic rocks

you can buy that exact type of basing material from GW, but it might get expensive. If you want to make it yourself, pva glue on the base sprinkle some sand on top. put a dark red paint on it, dry brush a lighter red/orange on the top. you probably want to use craft paints for bases to keep the cost down.

Scrape the cork to get rid of the flat smooth texture
Modpodge over top
Paint with dark craft paint then drybrush a lighter one

Added another feather to the interior of the plume, it felt like it was still missing something even as garish as it already was. From certain angles it almost had the appearance of a wilted flower. Giant old feather from that one ridiculous empire greatswords head fixed the problem up. Might add a little bit more volume on top of it to really fill it out, but it's getting there. The whole plume has been built up from what was originally a pretty small and unassuming one, so the structure is rock solid and attached to the head very securely. Then the plan is to pin the rider down to the chooks torso underneath the saddle, and also by his hand, and then I will superglue the plume to the tail feathers on the chook for a solid 3rd contact point. Planning to use a circular 40mm base so tipping won't be an issue. All in all, still headed in the direction I want.

How the fuck does that happen? It's not even like a slight mismatch, I set this torso pretty far off center to try and obscure more of it behind the arms on the front and it's still really obvious how wrong the size is.
The crouching leg is fucked up too, they made it flat on the back of the calf like it's supposed to be flush against the thigh but then there's a huge gap if you line up the knee and the thigh curves away anyway.
Big thumbs down for this kit, which sucks since it's not like there are many (or any) other options for plastic samurai.
