>>97949668In the words of the lesbian chef on youtube that I think is hot:>All you have to do is give a fuck
>>97948824Done for the day, still shiny while its wet. Letting it dry some and I'll adjust the highlights and shadows once it dries and mattes out a little. Felt good to paint but its pretty irritating that my brush control has gone to shit. There is a lot of blue on this guy, but I thought it'd be funny to have an ork in a Canadian Tuxedo.
>>97949694Oh, and the boots look like shit since I only did one round of highlights/shadows since I'll need to touch them up and finish them anyway once they go on their bases, I'll be able to adjust the shadows and highlights on the bases at the same time since I'll have context once the mini is attached.

>>97949735Your freehand is killer my guy
Finished painting up two more models for Advanced Heroquest. These are both from Dungeonquest 1st Edition, I used their respective card arts for their paint scheme, going slightly darker with the ogre to practice more swarthy skin. The ogre? half ogre? was named Ironhand the Mighty, the sorcerer is Azoth the Faceless. I posted Siegfried up top last week when I finished him.
>>97949735very very nice
>>97949657:D! It me?
I want to make frogman space marines. But I think it might look retarded on an actual mini. Thoughts? Not sure what the best way to do the net would be.
need to do wings and the cockpit but otherwise pretty happy with this :3
>>97949735absolutely gorgeous already.
>>97949817I'm holding out on you guys by not revealing the goods...
>>97949899
ADHD taking control of the wheel at the minute so I’ve started kravek instead of finishing the masters. I’m keeping it nice and simple with plans to put to orange glows around the lenses and the face on the hammer. Overall Really happy with how things are turning out for only about 6 hours work.
>>97949847either use Green stuff or use like sister of battle head STLs from dakkadakka they have a few veiled heads over there

Back in the goblin mines.Just started laying out the base colours today.>tfw the glue on your cumsicle stick gives up and sends your model crashing to the floor.
>>97950060It's fun that they're on stilts.
>>97950060>tfw the glue on your cumsicle stick gives up and sends your model crashing to the floorHey I've seen this episode before.
>>97950091Brutal.I got lucky. Only the left hand broke off, along with a piece of the palm that was hanging on by a thread. You can see the line on the cowboy goblin where I made the repair, since I haven't painted over it yet.
>>97948922I keep them for a kitbash that will never come.
Finally did the tentacles on these guys in a way that I'm satisfied. Will still give green stuff time to cure before I start adjusting the tentacle positions. However, I'm not sure if I should add something to the abdomen, as their torsos feel a bit too short at the moment. Maybe that'll disappear once I've reposed the tentacles.
>>97949841Is he launching an Itano Circus from his shoulders?
Made this terrain on a whim. What do I think of it?
>>97950812I think it's good scatter terrain. Sparse enough that you could even move units there.
When did we start with this trend of putting a collage of all the previous general's work into the OP?I really like it and I think it helps foster a more productive and focused general.
Legs done, just a few more bits and bobs on the helstalker and then I can move on to the rider.
Testing out a necron scheme. This isn't the cleanest work ever and I don't like how the glowing is turning out, I might rework that, but it was mostly to check the colors I plan to use on the final scheme, and I like how the general color turned out. The only problem now is that I think that part is technically supposed to be a different material than the necron armor, but oh well, test model is a test model.>>97950951Good job. Nice and clean.>>97950812When can I move in?
>>97950911I think it's been a couple weeks, I like the idea a lot as well
>>97951145Ooh, I like that shield thingy. Like oxidized metal bursting with energy.
>>97950911Some guy wrote an small program specifically for scraping the images and collaging them, making it a lot easier.

Working on that booty. Metal, skin and trinkets will be finisher this week. Probably...>>97949694I know that feeling. Usually I have such a big periods of not being able to paint, that I'm forgetting the thing's I've learnt. Also don't forget to paint the grenade handle.
Progress on the commission
>>97951480Recently, I was asked if I take commissions, but I've never done this kind of work for anyone except myself before. How much is a normal amount to charge per model/squad for different levels of painting?
recommendations for inert basing material to use instead of sand? should cat litter or aquarium sand be sterilized after buying?
>>97950840It's for skirmish/RPG stuff. Also working on these two guys. I'm gonna be the lizard dude.>>97951145Wat
>>97951559I like coffee grounds.
>>97951559Sawdust works decently. I also like woodland scenics' blended turf and vallejo mud texture paste.
>>97951514This is my first comission. I'm charging double retail price for the models (thats what my friend said was a good starting place)
Working on urak taar now. Decided to go with golden bull and purple wings. Not the best job done for the green runes but it's serviceable. The stupid ink kept becoming really watery through the airbrush on the model no matter what I seemed to do so the green glow is just a bit sloppy.
>>97951688I honestly kinda dig the glow even if it’s unintentional.
>>97951688I think if you brightened the recesses that glow would look good to be desu. inb4 some sperg throws another shitfit over nuchorfs

>>97950810Yes!
>>97951714Oh yeah the glow is intentional, just the application isn't the best. Looking closely at a couple places there and on other areas of the model you can see where the green ink I was spraying got really watery and started to pool a bit. I tried my best to clean it up as it happened but there are places where it's just not great. Looks fine at table level though so that's what's important. I plan to make the throne and guy casting his spell the focal point so those will be done to a higher quality.>>97951721>Brightened the recessesYou mean go closer to white in the crevices where the light source is?that was kinda funny to see after posting, leaving, and returning to the thread the next day

>>97951894It's more annoying niggers that don't belong in the hobby for you too. Either way, you're not even makiing minimum wage doing commissions on this level.
That is all cool and swell, but why don't you fuck off back to /40kg/ with other subhumans?
>>97949735sovl>>97950799Hey, are those nail art beads? Glad someone else picked up on them>>97951514I've been interested in doing commissions as well since I had people expressing interest over it, but I'm too slow when trying to paint good looking stuff (which is what I'd want my customer to get) so I could never actually charge for my time, which would make it ultimately not worth it.Anyway, working on some customized bladeguards. Not any big conversion this time, just a lot of scraping and eventually some chains, rivets and hoods. I plan to paint some simple heraldry on the shields, either mirroring their own tiny tilt plates or going for a different motif, we'll see
Why don't you take your own advice, ESL?
Easy kitbash for my collection of characters.
>>97952119I fucken managed to deselect the pic.
>>97951607that seems like a retarded metricnow that you have finished it do the math, how much time did you spend and how much do you want to be paid hourly, paint costs are negligible, but add a buck or twoit gets very expensive very fast to be worth your while, unless you see it as paying for your hobby and not a job
>>97952129Yeah no I'm fully employed this is just something I do fun on the side. I actually fugin hate playing warhammer and just like painting so its a good fit for meProbably spent 30 hours on these.
I want to kitbash a model that looks somewhat like this to run as a corsair felarch. Any ideas for what I can use as a base? Also are there any reasonable options for the hair aside from just sculpting it myself? I don't need it to be as long as in this picture at least.
>>97952316isn't there a gw model with ridiculously long hair?
>>97952074Yeah, they are. I picked them up based on your(?) recommendation. Tough to work with - maybe I need a more delicate super glue nozzle for such precise work. Along with very sharp and small drill heads. Already got a few ideas on using them for other miniatures.
>>97951919>What if I put lil soda pops on the end of the missile trails?Isn't it Budweiser beer by tradition (c.f. Macross: Do You Remember Love?)?>>97952372>isn't there a gw model with ridiculously long hair? The Second Edition Jain Zar and Avatar of Khaine models come to mind immediately.
>>97952372There are a few. Jain Zar comes pretty close, Yncarne has crazy hair, but a lot of the daughters of Khaine models from AOS consistently have long hair. I think picrel would work great.
>>97952427Actually the one in the middle here is better I think. But still, there are lots of options.
Sylvaneth have longer hair but it’s much more thinner iirc.
>>97952410>>97952427>Jain Zaryeah that was the one i was thinking about, but the new version
So here's what they look like after doing the edge highlights with Turquoise Light TMM. It might just be the camera, but it's a little more noticeable irl than in the picture.
>>97952506what is the tactical significance of a belly button on the armor
>>97952563I can imagine it's a little hard to get properly representative pictures of TMM minis. I'm sure it's not impossible but probably takes some practice.
>>97952563Since someone asked for the comparison, here's what they like like at each step.
Posed the tentacles and glued the drones to the bases. Still need to scrape mold lines and reattach some tubes to the weapons, but the vision is finally taking shape.

>>97952589Rule of cool
>For the glory of /wip/!Another kitbash, used a bunch of different parts. The helmet crest comes from a steam tank commanders power baton or whatever they call those things. Most of the plume is made of feathers from various empire kits (greatswords, crossbow/musket troops, state troops etc) with a few select parts from some historical cavalry kits. Perry. The body of the lancer is wga halfling cavalry, the arms are a mixture of their renaissance heavy cavalry, and the helmet comes from their guard kit. Finally, the chook itself comes from The Assault Group. They mostly make historical stuff, but also have a very characterful fantasy selection. I have shown off some of their halflings here before. It all leans heavily into the chunky old hammer aesthetic, for those that are into that sort of thing. Reliable company. Good castings. And they have a lot of cool greebles for conversions. All their renaissance stuff scales pretty well with old world/later whfb stuff. Same with the conquistadors and Renaissance heavy cav kits from WGA.Looking forward to getting this guy cleaned up, and painted. Should be a good one. Might do him up in the chrome/black ink pinwash style. We'll see.
>>97952972If this lad's name isn't "Nate Goodfellow" ...
>>97952376yep it was most likely mePersonally I use very thin super glue- I dab one end of a toothpick in it and just smear it a bit inside the drilled hole, while I keep the other end of the toothpick moistened with water to catch one bead and then deposit it in its holeregarding the drill, I got one from amazon that it's honestly great compared to the slightly cheaper and bigger one I used before; it cost like 12 eur and it has super small and precise heads, down to 0.3 mm
>>97952993>BTanon is an eurofagburgers btfo
>>97952209if you charge less than hourly minimum wage you're basically doing it for free.
>>97952993I've an old drill I bought from green stuff world if I recall correctly. Sourcing smaller drill heads should be a pretty trivial thing. How do you put the microbeads into the models? I've tried hobby tweezers, but the beads are quite slippery, so I've mostly used my fingers, which isn't the most accurate way to apply them.
>>97952615thanks I was shitposting before but now I can honestly say I think it makes them look worse. before they had a nice pearl look kind of like an anodized finish. now they look swirly or stained and ultimately less like metal than they did before.

Took some time over the weekend at work to paint this clear base for a Wizkids 'Pathfinder Deep Cuts - Gargantuan Adult White Dragon'. I used some of the exclusive Blanche paints along with APs Deep Blue-Greens. I've been going over some of Hiroshige's aizome prints, which inspired me to paint the base as a bit of an ice shelf breaking off in to deep blue arctic water. I am going to add a layer of epoxy for water and ice, along with some snow and small ice mounds floating in the sea. I'm going to have to glue the dragon's tail directly to the base rather than using the original tiny pegs to achieve the effect, but I'm not worried about it.
>>97953522Never actually post models when the BTfag demands it, he's just going to samefag and seethe at you for the rest of the thread now

>>97953644>Do power swords get damaged in battle or no? Like if it's working properly can it still get chips and scratches?Depends on the writer, like I know in books like Helsreach their weapons get broken towards the end of the siege since they ran out of juice to keep the power fields active and were fighting in their normal state. We've also seen power weapons shatter if they try to attack a powerfield that is stronger, or for just plot reasons. I can't remember the book but I distinctly remember some loyalist captain attacking a chaos marine with their power sword, but the chaos marine shattered it with their power fist.

Hello guys, my first army in process.Trying to do an ultimate color scheme for my alpha legionnaires. I really like the true metallic metal from vallejo (here is a hydra turquoise), but I want to add purply-violety tint in shadows. At the moment I think to try to experimenting with washing the thing with celestial violet shade and violet ak wash to see how it will look in comparison to each other. Still dont know how to get a grimdarkier vibe. Want my boys to look worn and battered to some degree. Can I ask for some clues? I hope some experienced maestro can guide me in the right direction. Please, send help.

>>97954031They also invoke the imagery of early composite armors like that of T-64s.
What's some good basing for a reddish brown Mars surface type base? Just some sand?>t. noob
>>97954418Still, I don't want it to be just fine sand. Guess I'll have to live it through, dissapoint myself and then rebase.

Thread is more like 40kg everyday. I'm not sure if it's because people are migrating away and the 1 40kg fag is making up a greater percentage, or if we're just accumulating more, shittier people.
Added another feather to the interior of the plume, it felt like it was still missing something even as garish as it already was. From certain angles it almost had the appearance of a wilted flower. Giant old feather from that one ridiculous empire greatswords head fixed the problem up. Might add a little bit more volume on top of it to really fill it out, but it's getting there. The whole plume has been built up from what was originally a pretty small and unassuming one, so the structure is rock solid and attached to the head very securely. Then the plan is to pin the rider down to the chooks torso underneath the saddle, and also by his hand, and then I will superglue the plume to the tail feathers on the chook for a solid 3rd contact point. Planning to use a circular 40mm base so tipping won't be an issue. All in all, still headed in the direction I want.

>kitbashing some fireforge samurai with other kits>the samurai torsos are too small for their own legsHow the fuck does that happen? It's not even like a slight mismatch, I set this torso pretty far off center to try and obscure more of it behind the arms on the front and it's still really obvious how wrong the size is.The crouching leg is fucked up too, they made it flat on the back of the calf like it's supposed to be flush against the thigh but then there's a huge gap if you line up the knee and the thigh curves away anyway.Big thumbs down for this kit, which sucks since it's not like there are many (or any) other options for plastic samurai.

does the new vallejo model color range have the bubbling issue of the game color range? Their US dark green was my favorite camo colour
Is there a significant difference between primers you'd get from a hardware store compared to ones bought from a hobby store? On one hand, you might save a bit of money. But on the other it might just ruin your minis, thus costing you a lot of money.
>>97955900>>97955867its good work, but its also using contrast heavily, i can see why its controversial but i cannot see why it's spergout worthy.
>>97956201It's decent work, the splotchiness of the contrast really shows and his attempts to mask it with weathering doesn't do muchIt's a bizarre choice since he clearly has good brush control with those fine black weathering highlights on the non-black armor pieces
>>97956197I just finished my bottle of old vgc dark greenDefinitely saw some boobles but blowing on them gently solved everything
Is zenithal priming worth it? Are there any cool airbrush techniques that I might not have heard of?>t. just bought an air brush
>>97956212zenithal priming is useful for visualizing where to place highlights, or if you want to just do glazes/contrasts and have the undercoat do the work for you
Finishing up the big gun. Johnny for scale >>97956212One of my favourite things I use my airbrush for is easy muzzle burn which is just a layer agrax earthshade and nuln oil sprayed on. You can use blue/black/purple contrast paint for heat weapons. You can also get really easy yellow basecoats with contrast paint sprayed over white primer

I am really glad this is the only black templar ill need to paint.
>>97956506what do you need a single black templar for?
About 2 months ago, or maybe 3, I posted about finding my old Terminator Librarian. It was the first thing i bought after getting the Black Reach starter set, "only" $20 at the time.I found and bought an unpainted model on eBay, 1 week before GW announced the print on demand of the exact same model. Finally finished painting the new one up and took some side by side shots. I'm moving soon so this it was nice to have him as my final project before packing everything up.
>>97956516he spent 2 months modeling that thing and by god you are going to look at it again
>>97956506Arent Black Templars like one of the easiest things to paint? Also finish ur base bucko
>>97956520For more comparison, my first Terminator Sergeant from Black Reach, and the sergeant from the next starter, the 6th or 7th edition one, compared with the sergeant I painted along with the Librarian
>>97956522Damn right!>>97956516Gift for brother in law.>>97956526You'd think so, and so did I before hand but holy shit I am getting IQ checked on painting black and white. I just cannot get it smooth looking.
>>97956527I also stripped and repainted an old Predator tank I found. I had to make new lascannon sponsons because I couldnt find the old ones.
>>97956536I also painted standard doors for the sides and freehanded a wing
>>97956542Final picture, the rest of the Terminator Squad. Didnt get a chance to get custom transfers done, but i freehanded a chapter symbol on the banner. Once the move is done that will be the last step.
>>97955768I didn't say he wasn't skilled, I said he had to most important skill to be recognized as skilled. how do you interpret that as meaning the exact opposite?
>>97956531For black, just prime it black, then edge highlight with a grey like mechanicus grey. White does suck. Gotta paint the area grey, then a lighter grey, then a very light grey/offwhite. like 2 or 3 thin layers for each step. Only edge highlight with pure white.
>>97956520its nice to have old models for comparison you clearly got better at it very clean work
>>97956565>just prime it black, then edge highlightIts important to apply a basecoat of your black paint, because primer and paint usually have a different finish and if you were to correct some mistake it would be noticeablepicrel you can see the difference: left is just primer, right is painted black
>>97956198I've used Rustoleum without any issues. Just make sure it says you can use it on plastic.
>>97956629Damn nice NMM anon. With some additional smoothing it will look sick
>>97956198you will know when you find youre cheapo brandkinda like with superglues you have to shop around to find the good ones
>>97956629Youre right, I usually airbrush a black paint on as primer so my primer black and base black are the same.>>97956624Its been like 15 years so if i hadnt improved i would have just tossed my models into a fireAlso the old models details just feel so much more sovlful than the new librarians details. I dont know how to explain it but painting the old one felt fun and refreshing while the new one felt like a slog at times
>>97949735Nice

>>97956858another blast from the past
>>97956770There isnt any, some dude decided to shit the thread up and anons are getting baited left and right. This happens all the time, the subject doesnt even matter, as long as it's some controversial and retarded opinion you will get people riled up. Next he'll be saying something like "natural hair brushes are actually useless in every way" and people will bite.
Probably a dumb retarded question but please bear with me.When I paint highlights, it doesnt really read as >'okay its the same colour but its brighter because its receiving light from that direction' but more like >the material shifts colour to a brighter onesame with shadows

hi anons, has anyone done DIY candles for miniatures?the two wax effects i've seen used is either hot glue or literally just wax itself from candles/crayons.are there any other methods you know about? is there something you can add to pva glue to make it dry a little thicker? not sure if i'm ready to spend money on a glue gun for a niche use.
>>97957476I've done it using PVA and green stuff. It works. You can also "sculpt" the PVA (get it roughly into shape) and then add a little drop of superglue. it'll harden the PVA.
>>97957476>is there something you can add to pva glue to make it dry a little thicker?you can mix just about anything into pva, fine sawdust, gypsum, grout, cement, the dust from your table, talcum powder...
>>97957100>>97957114Its a lineman plier but maybe these are reinforced paperclips
