>>97967165>Did you have a good month of hobby?NoI was extremely drunk exactly one month ago, pissed a bunch of people off and then was so hungover I sold all my stocks at break even instead of decatupling down like I promised I would, at the very bottom of the third Iran War dip/oil spike, cucking myself from 3.5xing my money. Now instead of buying lots of stuff I have to budget the stuff.

>>97967216oh shit, we blogposting now? I didn’t hobby much this month, but that’s because I’ve been going out a lot! last weekend (when I’m normally painting) I went to a renaissance faire near me, and had so much fun seeing the jousting, shows, and cool outfits! most pictures have people in it, so here’s a picture of the flog I bought for $30, been self flagellating a lot to see if I bleed, but I force myself to stop after my skin starts turning really red. anyway! hope everyone else had a great time with their weekend, and next weekend too!

Sure. But actual aircraft is a bit much.
>>97967883The air models are cool though.
>>97967913warhammer 40k isn't a squad based game, otherwise you should also consent to removing large tanks like the beyblade or lords of war like angron. Coming to TW40k: Console Edition.
I like metal models more than plastic models
>>97967844Fuckin gnarly
>>97967826We can never get Rak'Gol because of copyright reasons. They were nuked from the canon.
>>97967335They are good for delivering melta cannons to within 6 inches of enemy tanks on turn one, and then dying. If you're playing Armored Infantry and you can have strength 11 meltas it's pretty good. Outside of that extremely specific use case they're overshadowed by just about anything else.
>>9796806440k, based on what they've said so far and the very little gameplay shown, is going to be such a huge departure from how other TW games are played that its going to be either kino of the highest order (unlikely) or complete dogshit, with basically no chance it will be average. From what I've seen so far I'd hesitate to even call it a Total War game. That doesn't necessarily mean it will be bad. But the fact they are planning on trying to make it playable on consoles gives me a lot of pause. I don't really think performance is going to be the issue. It will be extremely dumbed down AI in order to give players using a controller even a fighting chance at winning. RTS games have never worked on console. You're very optimistic assuming it'd be Halo Wars rather than the same mismanagement behind Warhammer 3.
>>97968090But it's CA

>>97968544Everyone plays 40k because everyone else plays 40k.Long live the network effect.

>>97968552>network effectNTA butThat's a new one I didn't know.Granted I have been very interested in alternative systems to keep 40k models from collecting dust. There's actually two games mentioned in the OP.Anybody tried them or if they suck what's some alternative wargame systems where one can still easily use his 40k models in them?
>>97968544First thing people get introduced to when it comes to wargaming and then they learn the rules and stick with it like how DnD is for many the first of TTRPGs and they learn the system and then don't move anywhere else.I think.
>>97968544Friends play it, the community is large and the minis are genuinely cool, mostlyI think there is a rich get richer effect though, like 40k is the largest, so it gets more new players, so it gets largerKind of like your mum

>>97968544I’ve been on the roulette of trying various alternative wargames for 4 years now. None of them stick and people just go back to GW products or onto a new game. I can’t afford to be buying new games every time something new is popular so I just gave up and went back to GW

>>97968855NTA but wash really depends on the surface. If it's flat you want to recess shade to avoid pooling. If it's a highly textured surface like hair or fur you can get away with just slathering it on because the texture guides the wash
>death company marines don't have special dreads and guys anymore, they're just intercessors and ballistus dreadnaughts painted black with red XsI will never get over how fucking lazy this shit is.
>>97968861It's funny how the "marines are easy to paint" belief is a double-edge sword because all the large flat surfaces make them extremely easy to fuck up with the typical newfag traps; overwashing and contrast paints
>>97968788what's the story with this guy. The yiff is dying and the red guy is there to relieve him by shooting him in the head and ending his suffering?
>>97968769when did the MM become a thing anyway? They look like dead ringers for angry marines, but it couldn't possibly be that someone saw the interment memes and decided that that should be their own chapter of assholes.
>>97968872It's also what makes them extremely fast to paint the moment you learn to use airbrushes/spray cans and sub assemblies.

I played 40k from 3rd to 7th editions and got out of the hobby since I moved somewhere I couldn't find opponents (rural Canada) well I moved again and am thinking of getting back in at the start of 11th. Should I spend my money updating my existing Ork and Eldar armies for the new meta or should I just start a new Imperial Knights army? I love the knight models so those will be fun to build and paint but I have zero reference for how they play on the table top. Any advice?
>>97969107You played the best editions, you're not gonna like the current rules.
>>97969107I don't play the game but it's shit.
Made two friends on my lunch break. Can't wait to get home and finish my collage entry.
>>97969107Well if you want to build and paint the models go ahead but 10th and presumably 11th army list building has gotten way over simplified with few meaningful choices. In 7th I ran a marine army that skipped on squad size and wargear on my infantry and squeezed as many points as I could into drop pod dreadnoughts and land speeder typhoon squadrons. That army can't even be played anymore.

>>97969107Thankfully rule are pretty much free when you factor in tools like wahapedia and battlescribe/new recruit, so if you've got a collection it'd defintely be worth having a look into seeing what list you can make and running some trial games, if you're close to a lgs it could definitely be worth seeing if anyone interested in helping you you get back into the game.Detachments kinda work like the decurion/formation back in 7th, giving extra rules to units, but less restrictive, they're also bringing in the ability to run multipe detachment in 11th, so if you were used to doing detachment shenagins in 6th and 7th it should feel a bit familiar.Pretty much everything in Ork and Eldar is still usuable some models jst have newer sculpts, so i'd definetly recommend playing some games to see if you're stil the game, unless of course you get the urge to paint a project.>ruleshttps://wahapedia.ru/wh40k10ed/the-rules/quick-start-guide/>list building(don't worry too much about wargear)https://www.newrecruit.eu/

>>97969252But anons here told me literally no one in the history of 40k took tactical squads and that they deserve to be extinct.
>>97969252Thats a really fucking good list IIRC. >No one liked playing against itYeah I can see that. The list is completely redundant so target priority is pointless, you could lose half your models and still use the same tactics. The first turn FU of the drop podding cheap versatile boxnoughts would flinch even an experienced player. The pods themselves blocking up the opponents movement is just a cheap fucking move for a 140pts each.
>>97969322you're mistaken, people took tactical when they were good, like when you had to take them in demi-companies, but if you're just filling your troops slots scouts were much more efficient.
>>97969218Wtf, source?
>>97969314What does CAD mean? I'm a new poster here and dont know the board's lingo. Most of my opponents didnt run armies with a lot of intercept. There was a guard player who just spammed 4 or 5 Russes. An ork player that spammed as many bikes and nob bikes as he could. The marine player was the only guy who tailored his list. Those were my regular opponents and everyone else was pickup games against all comers lists at the GW.
>>97969343You can probably find it in the archive
>>97969352>What does CAD mean?Combined Arms Detachment, just the basic force org detachment in the rulebook that gave obsec to all your troops, i'm pretty sure GW got tired of tying alternate troops choices to certain characters and started making faction specfic force orgs before they switch over to full on decurions. You definitely did a great job of building a list for your local meta, did you ever play maelstom mission, because with how mobile your list can be it would have been great for the random objective deck.
>>97969323I wouldn't call it that good of a list but if he was mainly playing casual games I can see it doing well in that meta.
>>97969373Yes we did occasionally play maelstrom missions but we usually just used the core book missions and deployments. The guard player in particular would sometimes request we play death matches without objectives where the person with more points of models left at the end wins. It was not a particularly competitive group. There was this one Tyranid player who won like 80% of the games he played with us but eventually he found other more serious competitive guys to play with.

>>97969476How is GW going to balance their rules obsession with keeping one faction = one game when it comes to chaos daemons?I don't put it above GW to squat the faction. Remember the WAACfag massacre when GW outright moved dozens of Forgeworld kits to Legends?

>>97969517The mobility of the Rhino and plasma guns. Parking that on top of an objective practically guaranteed I would hold it while enemy shooting was focused on the dreads and assault marines closing in on them. 7th was so much better than 10th. Only thing I like about 10th is split fire.
>>97969581Honestly these days you're best bet are recasters, there's a few ruskies and FW east bros that have bits ranges.
>>97969584>Only thing I like about 10th is split fire.I feel like it wasn't really needed back then. You didn't need the saturation of weapons to kill stuff in a single turn that you need now so losing some boltgun shots because you were shooting your melta at a vehicle didn't really matter.

It's not the greatest, but I'm happy with it. Learned some new stuff for painting, like mixing paints to make the armor color and skin color.
>>97969626With the 3 Falcons as your backbone I'm sure you can make a list viable for most casual play. Also Swooping Hawks and Fire Dragons are auto-include. You can definitely make a list worth playing even if it isnt super competitive.

>>97969639>First time painting human skin and faces. I want to put 10 assault intercessors, a captain, and a sanguinary priest in a land raider. The crusader and redeemer variants have superior movement speed (and the redeemer potentially has a more useful loadout) compared to the base land raider, but I don’t know how to make use of the extra transport capacity and having unfilled seats would upset me greatly on account of my autism.
>muh stat check armyIf you are greedy and don't bring anti-tank, you deserve to get punished.
>>97969965Don't look at teh transport capacity look at the weapons. Do you need the lascannons? If not, then the flamers are great.
>>97969972>I don't understand what a stat check army isThey are not armies that punish players for taking minimal or no solutions at all for a specific unit type, they are armies that punish players for not specializing in countering that specific unit type. You lose because you brought a reasonable amount of anti-tank or anti-infantry or anti-teq to face more rounded armies.
>>97970012If you brought a reasonable amount of anti-tank you wouldn't lose due to your lack of it. Specifically building for anti-tank will give you an advantage, not simply bring you to parity.Again you are a greedy retard that thinks a "reasonable" amount of X counter is the bare minimum you can get away with for armies that do not do X.

>>97969871Flyers were in Rogue Trader. There were rules for them in every single edition of 40k to exist. They just weren't common back then because they didn't have plastic models, you had to buy expensive resin kits from Forge World and get rules in places like the Citadel Journal before these were even well known. The explosion of flyers started when GW began producing plastic ones and putting them in Codexes.

>>97970564>The tau didn't get they were a conscious intelligent species at firstWasn't it the other way around because of the mindset of Vespides, rather than intelligence?

Coming back to 10th during its swansong, I am finding a lot of fun in it. I've had more Imperial Guard type moments in these games than I have in other editions, things like marching a big squad onto an objective for a few victory points knowing they'll be gunned down soon after, or holding a monster tied up in melee for turns on end. Painted up the Command Squad member w/ the banner and the Russ executioner for this game.

>>97970625>how are those things that wouldn't happen in older editions?I am speaking mainly from 5th edition experience, so maybe you have experienced different, but older editions were a lot lighter on objective play. Each mission having objective markers in 10th and the random tactical objective card each turn mean you move around a lot more. Moving a model that had rapid fire in 5th meant you couldn't shoot further than 12", so you really would just hunker down.Plus as much as I love sweeping advance, it did mean a lot of combats were just one and done.
