>>97970119april collage submissionWe ran out images in previous thread so I couldn't postI started only today, not intending to take part in collage initially (in fact that's my first try). Not sure if I succeed at portraying it correctly, but suddenly got a simple idea for a Kroot of all things being disgusted at having to eat a stinky Space Yiff, that's how disgusting he is. I got to use a nigger head which wouldn't be useful to me otherwise, stiff kroot pose which annoyed me in other projects and a failed recast of a marine body.Greenstuff is still somewhat workable lol. Way overdid sand on a base and tribal markings especially look bad, missed spikes on his arm and now I can see that gun on his back got dirty too. But I worked on him enough for today, that's how he will have to look like on the collage. I'm happy with how he turned out ultimately, especially given that weirdly stiff pose and a failed recast.

10th is pretty bad, will 11th be better or more of the same in your opinion?
>>97972192Despite both having iron in their name, the Iron Warriors use it to mean "having a backbone and grinding down the enemy in BROOTAL siege warfare" while Iron Hands mean "I am a nerd and I am hacking your mainframe".Importantly is that IW have a cool colour scheme, cultic troops like the Mutilators and Obliterators and other shit while the IH have zero of their mentioned in lore stuff because where Chaos Warriors have a free hand to basically have WACKY shit having the Heretic Asstards keyword and usable across different warbands, the nature of the imperium is that you would need special detachments and keywords for the IH stuff or even a codex supplement that allows you to mix and match robot parts which are otherwise just cosmetic upgrades. In particular while Iron Fathers are basically techmarines, the Iron Father is also a straight up cyborg while technamrines just like doing IT work. So there is no 1:1 between Warpsmiths and Warsmiths like there is for CHAOS, while Techmarines feel like a phoned in generic toy meant to appeal to kids. All the Iron Hands specific units are named characters and Lol at spending 50 bucks just to have your hecking special boy on the field. Also their colour scheme is kind of lame and if you spice it up it's difficult. Like primed white with a metallic overcoat then blakc but with a drybrush of necron compound on top to pick out and shiny-ize certain parts.
>>97972206the thing is the canis helix is degenerative, so Kroot might outright refuse to eat it/shapers might warn against it because they can smell when DNA would cause the kroot to evolve into fucked up berserkers. This is also why Kroot don't eat chaos marines.
>>97972222It sounds better already but with the limitation of current books being compatible, most of the biggest issues can't be fixed. Points can, at least. But the silence on the matter is worrysome.

>>97972389I never participated in those threads, just not something I cared about or was interested in. But I can tell the biggest issue was people just went off the rails entirely really fast, which just killed the project. Also, at least to me, it does also kinda of prove that the whole "older editions were better" is partly due to nostalgia for many. It's the "best edition ever" because it was the first edition they ever played, which means it holds a special place in their heart. But my main point is that, if 4th edition was as good as the people claim, then they wouldn't feel a need to fuck with it in the first place. They would just play 4th edition. Also it's just a bit grim, because I've seen this thing happen twice already, and it failed both times. 1st was Fourk and 2nd the 4E Battle Bible.Just goes to show that /tg/ no longer has that spark to it.

>>979724384th (well 3.5 with 4th rulebook and the later 3rd and earlier 4th codexes) is genuinely the most fun the game has ever been for me. Playing 1500 points with like 2 HQ, 1 Elite, 3 Troops and 2 Fast Attack or Heavy Support or so.I started in 2nd which has its own charm but only up to maybe 30-50 miniatures and even then is a bit clunky.8th with indexes has a similar vibe but you're simply never going to get nuGW fans to break their excitement for the churn.
>>97972450With how much focus epic hero type characters are to some armies nowadays that's basically mandatory if you want to be invested in /yourdudes/ If anything GW should make Tau more viable on big point games without the need of named characters being involved
>>97972450That's how it should be.Named characters should just be a variant of a base character with special rules/wargear.Characters shouldn't be locked to subfactions.Back in 4th/5th this was not just normal, it was how it was meant to be as the designers said so and did it themselves, I remember one entry of WD at the time (~2009) having a Aurora(?) painted Cato Sicarius on the second page.
>>97972413Kek

>>97972450It's fine. Nothing wrong with liking a design of a named character, but using it to make your own thing. And arguably those people are keeping more to the original spirit of 40k, ie. coming up with your own stuff.Yeah, it'd be better if there was a cool model kit for a generic Commissar Lord with tons of bits and weapon options, while also having good generic rules + datasheet to choose your own wargear for your own special commissar lord or whatever, but you gotta make do with what you have.

The rare exceptions are usually just put into Wraithlords/Wraithseers, because why would you waste such a powerful soul in a lesser construct?
>>97973024Unfortunately no. All the third party ones are over sexualized. I don't hate the censored clothes because it makes them less sexy, I hate them because they just look fake and breaks immersion, like it's obvious GW only dressed them that way because of public opinion. >>97973169Various canon depictions of the The Inquisition and how fans interpret them have made me question my sanity. The Inquisition can't sniff out Genestealer Cults nor Chaos growth for decades if not centuries but they can sniff out a small whiff of "sounds kinda heresy" leading to "kill them all, they're phonies" in mere minutes. Sometimes Inquisitors are psykers that can read a mind without much a of a fuss, other times they fuck up and kill a guy before they get the info they wanted. They are the most retarded, paranoid assholes ever and other times infallible with their logic and reasoning. Some are nice and let populations of humans chill without Imperium meddling as long as the tithes are paid. Others will burn whole continents because a handful of nobles said some silly things at a private party. It's infuriating because trying to bend any kind of Imperium regime rules leads to faggots acting like Inquisitors, dictating what is and isn't allowed in the setting.
If it was written in 3rd or 4th edition it's canon. If it was written in 1st or 2nd edition it's canon unless it got retconned by something from 3rd or 4th.If it was written in 5th or later it's only canon if it doesn't contradict anything from the above and maintains the same tone. If it even has a slight whiff of being retarded nulore, just ignore! These are the simple rules to enjoy 40k lore.

>>97973024The state of notrepentia stls is so frustrating. There's some kind of retarded mind virus that has spread between anyone who tries. None of them even try to emulate the old aesthetic. A lot of them have giant 90s Super Mario Bros Movie boots for some reason which makes no fucking sense as it's not part of the original design so they can only be stealing it from each other for some reason. A lot of them are also far too "heroic" looking instead of being the bdsm slaves/penitents they're supposed to be. The one stl I found that's even close to the old design is only a single one off sculpt and not a full unit.
>>97973036I was imagining the character would be used as a more offensive alternative for wraithguard squads, specifically ones that take d-scythes, or wraithblades. Is it dumb? >>97973555Early on, Abnett didn't know much about 40k, so his early novels that people recommend as entry points into 40k (for strange, strange reasons) are basically just generic military scifi with a 40k skin thrown on top (early Gaunt's Ghosts) or generic investigation thriller IN SPACE (Eisenhorn). Or generic military scifi power fantasy with a 40k skin thrown on top (Brothers of the Snake). He's a good writer, yeah, and established a lot of things, but those novels established a trend of "treat 40k like generic science fiction in BL" among BL authors for years (look at the Cain books for example). Abnett's later/modern works are darker and more in-line with the original setting, it just took him a while to get there, but those books people still recommend? They're the source of "reasonable 40k" a lot of BLfags have in their heads. You want BL novels that are actually in-line with 40k as a setting as presented in the sourcebooks? Read Peter Fehervari instead. Or even fucking Ian Watson.
>>97973609>generic investigation thriller IN SPACE (Eisenhorn)Please enlighten us how a story of a puritan inquisitor being stalked by a daemon to the point he falls to chaos himself to be rid of it whilst staunchly maintaining he's not a radical is generic scifi. There are so many things that happen in Eisenhorn that are pure 40K, you have read it right and are not one of those just jumping on the Abnett hate bandwagon?
>>97973609>Read Peter Fehervari instead. Or even fucking Ian Watson. Both of these are incredible writers but I think you are being too hard on Abnett. Eisenhorn is solidly 40k.
>>97973262The Imperium has lasted orders of magnitude longer than any entity in human history, under far more hellish conditions. Grimdark fags can claim whatever they want, that doesn't happen if the system isn't actually insanely well-engineered and very functional.
>>97973660Eisenhorn himself seems...a bit too relatable compared to Draco, for comparison. He's an inquisitor, but is portrayed like a space detective who slowly breaks bad instead of someone who determines the fates of billions of people (Draco comes across this way, too, but he's also a fucking weirdo with an alien mindset). Not to mention that Eisenhorn novel excerpts are the endless, eternal source of "WELL AKSHULLY, MOST IMPERIAL WORLDS ARE QUITE NICE AND COZY, JUST LOOK AT GUDRUN IN XENOS!!!" so I kind of hold a grudge for that alone.

>>97973673Not him but you don't get it at all. The Imperium has survived mainly through sheer weight of momentum from just being so absurdly fucking large that is has near infinite resources to throw at problems, and yet even still it is always described as decaying and dwindling, bit by bit, year by year, planet by planet. It is the last redoubt of humanity dying an agonizingly slow death, and it's canon that in the end it will fall, even though it may be so far off in the future that we never actually "see" it.

>>97973701No, you're showing you don't get it. Increases in size and complexity makes systems break down quicker and easier, "infinite resources" makes the problem worse precisely because it's so easy for everything to immediately go tits up from one tiny distruption. You can't survive anything from "sheer momentum", especially not under the kind of pressure they have to deal with.>Implying the Imperium will ever end before GW goes bankruptLol. Lmao.

>>97973713Nigga you are just gay and retarded.
>>97973687Inquisitors are at their most fun when they're being drawn more down to earth to act as Detectives or Judges or Spies. I don't really care when an Inquisitor condemns a planet of a billion souls to die on a whim because that's just over the top grimdark shenanigans. It's not really the scales of their power that interests me it's the kind of individuals an Inquisitor has to deal with. An Inquisitor does need some actual proof on record to explain why he executed a Planetary Governor or some other Inquisitor is going to call bullshit.I'd sort of agree that Abnett's depiction of the Imperium is a lot more benign in it's presentation of the decadence and dictatorship, but that's just sort of a necessity to explain why his generally likeable characters actually think it's worth protecting.

>>97973887that’s cause the orks went virtually uncontested for a while and were able to build up strength enough to have numbers and experience to fuck up primarchs. after the imperium dealt with them, most of the remaining orks were far weaker and needed to build their strength back up. this wouldn’t be a problem IF after the Horus Heresy and Scouring the only major threat left wasn’t the orks. this meant the imperium didn’t give the orks room to breath and were on their asses 24/7 with only the occasional break to deal with small scale rebellions, CSM raids, and xenos attacks. there is a silver lining (if GW gave a fuck about orks) theoretically, they should be getting back to something approximating great crusade strength soon because now the imperium has to worry about tyranids, tau, necrons, and CSM crusades which occupy their attention to allow orks the opportunity to grow their numbers and experience.

>>97974084>he is emulating a fundieNo. You're confusing lukewarm cultural Christians for believing practising Christians. Both Orthodox and Catholic teaching is quite clear that hell is a real place. So was Jesus. I think you're applying the secular irreligious cultural view of Jesus being someone who came to tell us to treat each other well and be nice and good to one another. Which is not who Jesus was nor what he actually said, despite what popular non Christian culture has warped his message to be. Every single Christian who believes in the words of Christ believes in hell, because it wasn't an ambivalent or vague in the words of Jesus himself.
What faction do I play that fits the following>decent to large range>won't need to batch paint because I'll lose interest quickly if they all need to look same>can go crazy with colours, themes and scenery etc >not too cancerous to paint so no CSM with their tiny details and trim >gameplay unimportant because if I like the faction I'll deal with whatever gameplay they have So what should I get?
>>97974084>don't really believe in a definite judgement dayThen they don't really believe in Christianity, which is ultimately an apocalyptic doomsday cult that went mainstream. The concept of Christ returning and a final judgement is, as >>97974053 said, kind of an indelible part of the religion.

>>97974034It's not satire but it doesnt need to be to just casually poke fun at something. I would claim games like TC are a stronger and more direct jab at religion to the point I would call them offensive but 40k does treat it's religious cults as some of the more absurd, unreasonable and over the top parts of the setting. >>97974143>I would claim games like TC are a stronger and more direct jab at religion to the point I would call them offensiveYeah Trench Crusade is 100% blasphemous and incredibly offensive for both Christians and Muslims. Also poking fun at religion and being directly blasphemous are two different things as you yourself pointed out. Not all religions are equal, nor are all religious practices equal. While 40k does borrow a lot of Christian aesthetics, it's not insulting, mean spirited or most importantly blasphemous. Unlike Trench Crusade, which is incredible bad taste.
>>97974134I dont really see why space marines would be doing that on a regular basis, sounds like a voidsmen job if anything. Marines are far too valuable and high priority to get thrown into missions to the middle of nowhere (because why would anyone send pilgrims to an already populated place) with barely any clue as to the scale of the threats present and if geneseed recovery is gonna be possible. Also marines that usually venture too far off into the far reaches of non imperium space tend to get corrupted way more easilyLovely idea I really do applaud the creativity though, I wish GW would give us more info on the process behind colonizing planets in 40k but worldbuilding doesnt sell as much as bolter porn
We almost got to 50 collage entries this month.
>>97974160Why are you bringing that up unprompted?

Why do so many people seem to struggle to understand that "campaign material" that describes things that happen outside games or messes with wargear or whatever is not the same thing as a ruleset that inherently makes games themselves cinematic and scenario/narrative-driven?

You have your large protagonist gundam mech in the riptide, you have stealthy information warfare mechs and in stealth suits and ghostkeels. you have the coldstar which is the most asthetic and best possible commander model. you have crisis suits if you want to spam mechs with different types of load outs. (more like power armor than true mechs though). and then you have broadsides and the storm surge if you like big gun platforms. >>97975187>anyone who hecking criticises my grimderp is a fake fanReal fans actually criticize the things they like and don't just eat up all slop put in front of them.
>>97975204Retard, I do criticize 40k. Primarchs take away from the grimdark. Kill them.
I miss T3 Gretch
>>97975178grotless behaviour
>>97975187>Noooooo "muh GRIMDARK" 40k Identity, you are destroying it!Pathetic, anon.
eightbound are so small they're basically the same size as berzerkers... what were they thinking. It's even more comical comparing emperor's children tormentors to the significantly taller noise marines, who ironically did not actually need to be big.
>>97975207They don't. Imperium is still a shithole and even worse off before the primarchs returned.
>>97975098New grots are kino. I'll be getting grots for sure, still on the fence about the full box.
Fucking grotters are gross
>>97975218You are gross.
>>97975212Why are marinefags always so sensitive about height
>>97975230well eightbound are specifically supposed to be musclebound possessed freaks, so for them to be manlets is kind of underwhelming.
>>97975192pls help
>>97975192looks like a pizza slice kek
>>97975235you do understand that being muscular doesn’t effect height, right?
>>97975237honestly just strip it, I don't think it's salvageable at this point
>>97973231>Last anchor for the month. Expect the collage saturday or sunday. I encourage any stragglers to post their stuff even if late, if I see it I'll add it to the collage.Ill try to powerpaint my guy today, maybe I can get it done in time. Wish me luck.
>>97975240it literally does when you've got 8 daemons in your asshole you cunt.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is gobbo number 5
>>97975257Nice scheme anon
>>97975192I'm vaguely reminded of Metroid.
>>97975262Thanks anon here's a finished example.Im not sure if for the felltalon I should do the poison sack things in yellow or green. Maybe a mix?
>>97975192>>97975237seconding stripping it. doesn’t look like you’re that far ahead anyway, so its not really worth the trouble.
>>97975230It's a problem GW created with Primaris when they told the customer that everything before 8th Edition was the wrong scale.
>>97975098I had a notion they were going to given that this is a throwback set, but man they really went all in on the pickelhaube helmets.
>>97973231Ok. Here is My Flesh Eater standing over a possible future wolf stew.I fixed some flat surfaces.
>>97975327Why is the shoulderpad dipped in cum

>>97975337Welcome, to the cumzone.
>>97975327Is that a female head?
>>97975337Suprise Suprise Freehand is hard. Even something easy like A Fleash eaters Logo can easly get out of hand.

>>97975344I really need to step up my Miniature Photo game. I've been thingking abaut buying some chaep studio lights from Temu.
>Think I have done a miniature OK.>Take photograph>Every notch, hair, dust particle and minor error appears.Which is deceiving me, my eyes or the photograph?
>>97975383Both
>Stream starts>no noise>silence>..>...>....>No technical issues. Fuck all to show off today. Instead you shall have the sound of silence (not a new sob kit)
>>97975383Post it and I will tell you.
>>97975395I kind of want them to just have a completely silent stream and they just dump the box contents out on a table and have a camera on the pile for the next hour.
>>97975192Use Matt varnish to tone it down. Use red mixed with a darker colour to tone down areas that receive less light.
Mornin fellas
Is it a dick move to bring anti tank like a gladiator lancer to a 1k point game?
>>97975359Nta, but my biggest issue with freehanding is having a brush with a good sharp tip.I guess I could put some paint on the tip of sharp pencil, and the use it to make an outline of the shape I want.
I skipped this edition entirely but the collector in me is still now feeling the compulsion to buy the rule book while I still can.
>>97975368Ooh, I get it. She's a "flesh" "eater"
>>97975451Nah
What do you predict the new gravis primaris unit will be called? Something retarded and confusing?
>>97975212>what were they thinkingthe point was having redesigned modern berserkers, but instead of making them at the exclusion of normal berserkers they made both
>>97975456Remain stronk

>unit composition>1 sgt>4-9 dudes>each model equipped with the same loadout >no sgt wargear options What’s the point of calling out the sgt separately in the unit composition now that stat lines are tied to weapons?
>>97975465MISGENDERATORIS
>>97975478Devastators.Wait, that was for a firstborn unit. Quickly, insert the memory stick that memoryholes older units having cartoony names.
>>97975550Well, SOMEBODY has to be in charge.
>>97975555Devastators sounds grimdark and full of SOVL thougheverbeit
>>97975550They often have a higher leadership
>decide to take my time and have a really well painted army>mini still looks like complete shit after 10 hours of paintingI need some tutorials or something. Does anyone have any recommendations?
>>97975621other than for learning certain techniques, I find that you will improve simply through repetition than trying to learn through a video.

>>97975646I already stripped the model. I'll post it tomorrow after I try again.
Why the FUCK does this restriction existI'm already paying a soup tax based on not having any synergy or stratagems for the daemonBut also I'm supposed to field shitty Horrors that are 140 points of fucking nothing for every Tzeentch unit This vexes me
>>97975665>you will be called a fake grog zoomer nomodels nogames secondary tourist by a 40kg poster who started in 9th and has only been posting it for 2 yearsDon't forget the followup discussion where the same person will misuse the term grimderp and say the setting must become generic military science fiction because they're a faggot and redirect the entire general towards a dumbass reheated conversation about "LOOOOORRRRREEEEEE," then they'll call you a tourist for copying and pasting the 40k intro text crawl verbatim. Seriously that shit has been happening this entire fucking week over and over and it's the same fucking poster, I just know it
>>97975717>why does my army have to look like an army?
>>97975746I bet you also use "TDS" unironically
I don't get meta chasers. Nothing feels better than btfo'ing someone while playing a dogshit army.
>>97975746Anon said "soup", it's a rule for CSM.
