I still prefer my customized with orge kingdom bitz ork models. During the Medusa V campaign my warboss "Queen Cuddlepuff Happysquig the Good Intentioned" was even mentioned in the official material for standing out so much. I used a ogre kingdom standard for her boss pole and it looks great. I also green stuffed a pink floral dress for her. At the time I was troon chaser and though "orks have no biological sex so why couldn't an ork be female". I'd post a Pic but my Warhammer armies are at my mom's house and I don't live with her anymore. I still have them for the occasional game but I don't have enough shelf space to store them here.
>>
I was thinking, how will they bring back Sanguinus without destroying the death company lore.
I imagine he returns as some sort of psychic abomination like a male living saint or a gigantic Sanguinor and the death company are not cured. Instead they get even more enraged by what happened to him.

Ah this old conversation again.

The answer is yes to both. "Machine Spirits" are actually 4 separate things in 40k that are frequently mistaken for one another both in-setting and out.

>software programs/low-level AI like Siri installed in some tech
>brains in jars piloting things like Land Raiders
>warp spirits manifested by believing in machine spirits
>complete delusions of the superstitious Imperials and/or Mechanicus

You know how standard astartes ranks and roles are just that, standard stuff? Captains are captains, chaplains are chaplains, chapter master is a chapter master and so on with librarians scouts and all that shit.
Space Wolves?
Every fucking rank is just Wolf this, wolf that, and to say less that the geneflaw of space wolves means they would mutate into big dogs because after all, there are no wolves in Fenris.

Mind you, this is not exactly a bad thing, i think other chapters and legions got their own flavor of naming things. Lord knows you cannot go a centimeter around UltraMarines without seeing something named after a roman thing.

No you fucking retard, you didn't even read the post. Whether you call it gene-seed or gene-sperm is the same fucking thing, it's called "seed" as a euphemism like "a man's seed", but that's not the point. The point is the gene-seed/sperm is NOT PUT INTO the neophytes at any point. That's lorelet meme shit. It gets used to grow the organs in vats or servitors and then the organs get harvested and transplanted.

But there wasn't much stuff we have on their written stuff because of an absence of written stuff. Some of it was kept by their oral records that could be cross referenced in old art but large parts were lost. The Christians then tried preserving to the best of their ability, given they preserved even raunchy as fuck stories from other cultures, but there's only so much you can grab from disorganized groups and tribes without a sole 100% agreed interpretation.

In fact, culture including Greek culture warped interpretations. Many cultures didn't have a designated "God of X" but a bunch og Gods that could each do whatever. Týr's frequently claimed status as 'god of war' is based almost entirely on him having been assigned the week-day the Romans had assigned to Mars. A competing claim by Dumézil that Týr was a god of justice was based on his own reading of the myth of him losing his hand and because it fit into his conception of a common Indo-European justice-god tradition. Thor's damn likely to be thunder related though. Þórr means "thunder" in Old Norse. Etymologically it's the same word as English 'thunder' too. (Proto-Germanic *þunraz - > þunor -> thunder in English, *þunraz -> þórR -> þórr in Old Norse) To this day, Scandinavian words for thunder reference Thor, e.g. Danish/Norwegian torden ('Thor-noise/din') Swedish tordön and the more euphemistic åska ('travelling god/áss'). Also the Old Norse term reið ('ride') could also mean 'thunder-storm'.

Declan Taggert's recent study of Þórr argues that Þórr actually did have far reduced thunder associations compared to *Þunraz, particularly in the eddic material. Instead, he argues that some of the events of environmental disturbance in e.g. Haustlöng should instead be read as Þórr causing earthquakes and volcanic activity more than lightning. That'd be an interesting take on the character, a volcanic Thor.

NTA but the vast amounts of times a reader doesn't look into the historical context, the customs and storytelling conventions of each time, even slang and different word meanings that could've been misread by hundreds of historic interpreters, just 4 readings doesn't mean much. Looking into anything ancient history is a long trek and there's dozens of wankers thinking they can skip all that but grab everything from televangists to reddit atheists with their heads up their ass. 4 times is small compared to how much it takes.

I've been debating getting back into the game after a long hiatus. However, I'm not sure if I should stick with the faction I have (Guard) since the way my army is set up doesn't really work in this edition. It's primarily composed of hordes of battleline infantry, numerous weapon teams, and a few tanks. Problem is apparently sub-factions are no longer just aesthetic (all my stuff is Catachan) and you can't put heavy weapons in units anymore. So I'm considering jumping ship to either CSM or GSC to make use of at least some of the models I already have.

Then Pope Francis said he thought hell to be more like an empty place instead of a place of torture. But my own idea of heaven is also an empty place, so it turns out the Pope's idea of hell is my idea of heaven.

Demon Engines and war machines would normally fit the Iron Warriors better as one of the Legions that technically didn't break up like the others post Heresy. Besides even if the Emperor curb stomped him he would get back up because he defeated DEATH because he's ACTUALLY GOD.

Europe was the center of Christendom, anon. All of its military power was in knightly orders that were devout believers. These were not things that pagan Europeans did, like the Odin LARPer. These were Christian things.

>dubious translations and intentional vandalism
I don't think you realize that thousands of manuscripts from the ancient world can still be read today were preserved by Christians. They were hardcore in preserving accurately even heretical arguments because they'd catalogue them in the event anyone else comes up the same idea a thousand years later, they'd whip up the catalog with a pre-prepared "Here's why it's wrong". Old books did not last forever and needed recopying by hand. Christian monks and scholars in the medieval period are responsible for preserving virtually the entire body of surviving classical Greek and Roman literature, which was often written by pagans and those of other religions, and this includes records of other religions and their teachings.
Without Christians, we would know almost nothing about Roman or Greek history, because no one recorded them down.
For example, the history of pre-christian russia is completely unknown, because they aren't Christians, and not even in contact with Christians.
Also, the history of pre-modern India is also mostly unknown and blurry, because Hindus believe history is cylical, they don't bother to record it, so the best sources we have of medieval India are Chinese and Muslim sources.
There are in fact only 2 strands of intellectual schools on the planet that really treasure books and history. Abrahamic religion and confucianism. In the west, the ancient hebrews were the first to seriously record and preserve their history, and that is passed onto Christians and Muslims.

With all the talk about cutting factions, that only got me thinking, WHY should any faction be cut in the first place?
I don't think there's redundancy in the way some armies work, rolling up Imperial Knights into AdMech sounds boring because it takes away the part that IK's are not bound to any specific imperial creed, be astartes colored Knights or AdMech colored knights or big e forgive me for suggesting Cadian colored Knights, Chaos is more than just chaos marines so the idea of making daemons exclusive to be CSM armies or traitor guard to me is actually redundant.

Most people forget stuff like the brazen beasts exist too, they are khornate guys that love tanks.
I understand that's Iron warrior territory but the cleaved are quite prominent and they are legion of the dammed lite but Nurgle.
>>97981133
That sounds so spiteful, I mean you can make a space marine army without a single space marine on sight by putting a single warlord character on a transport but there's a reason we call that a meme, the fact that this is becoming a possibility you can make World Eaters army without World Eater units people actually like is dumb.
>>
>>97981117
People are assuming that the runtherd not accompanying the grots in the starter set means grots don't automatically include them.

Anyways there's a fair amount of infantry we can expect to get replaced - Lootas/Burnas are one, Nobs seem pretty likely. Stormboyz are either coming now or in a Kill Team later. I think the Wartrakk implies Warbikers are on the docket too. Vehicle wise, only the Trukk seems likely, though I'm not ready for it to go and the minute they announce one is when I go out and try to source another 3-4 of the current kit before it's gone.
>>
>>97981199
>I think the Wartrakk implies Warbikers are on the docket too.
Nah, what? The wartrakk is from fucking Gorkamorka, while the bikes are from 5th ed.

Truck is 5th ed too.

the dark mech are indebted to the world eaters, ever since the heresy
>>
>>97981205
The implication from me comes from a couple things:

1. It's got some design language that ties it more closely to the current warbikers - the fork decorations, the headlamp mounting is almost 1:1 with an existing one on the current warbiker kit, and the fact that they are not scaling it up to be in the buggy family, despite the two being very similar in rules in earlier editions (warbuggies and wartrakks, that is).

2. The gunner position being upgraded to a Nob makes it potentially a character and leader, to be attached to other units. Along with the above, the only such unit that makes sense, is Warbikers.

Ergo, Warbikers are being updated, and the Wartrakks may be attachable characters to accompany them (though I hope this doesn't mean that a new Warbiker kit doesn't build a Nob biker).
>>
>>97981205
Sorry just double checked, technically bikes and trukk are 4th ed but it was the very end of the edition, 2008. Anyways they hold up so I doubt they're getting replaced.

Nobs, lootas/burnas and stormboyz all definitely are though.
>>
>>97981197
>Most people forget stuff like the brazen beasts exist too, they are khornate guys that love tanks.
Its a shame they dont give some more shine to the other god specific warbands, it was nice when they got rules in 8th
>>
>>97981224
Everything you just said does absolutely nothing to suggest the bikes are being updated though? You're saying the design language matches already, meaning the bikes dont need an update to go alongside this model.

Honestly it would be based if it had blood pact in it. I don’t care for your advertisement marines, I want my mono freak warband with Khorne flavor
>>
>>97981233
Update doesn't mean a complete overhaul, the design language can remain the same with some tweaks, the fact that the wartrakk doesn't look *exactly* like the warbikes is proof of that. Also, we have a core troop update leading the charge on a larger wave update, anything that has its basis in that troop is likely to see an update, hence why I mentioned Lootas/Burnas and Stormboyz, even though those kits are also from 5th edition.
>>
>>97981117
>I heard someone say runtherd was gone but im unsure where they got that from
I think its because he's not shown in the box, meaning you can just run grots without him now (or again). Probably got legends'd
I like the existing lootas and burnas but a refresh wouldnt shock me. Same for Stormboyz.
>>
>>97981244
Just look at the Tyranid update to understand what's likely to happen, though. We got updated Tyranid Prime leader for Warriors but they didn't update the Warriors to go with it. We got updated Termagants and yet they kept the Tervigon the same which has an old style termagant coming out of the egg sac. The Carnifex is from 2004 and yet holds up well enough they didnt touch it.

They're not going to update everything and they're not going to update things just because leader models for them are coming out or anything like that.
>>
>>97981254
Lootas, burnas and stormboyz are all showing their age, and would look too out of place beside the new boyz, so I am positive they're getting updated, especially after the tankbustas which came out at the same time already did.

Which would be a better base for a GSC mechanized/cyborg Patriarch conversion, an Orrus Spyre Hunter, a Van Saar Arachi-rig (Ash Wastes or regular), or one of those Ambots? All are Necromunda models.
>>
So looking at previous patterns, Necrons got 8 kits after their launch box in 9th, and Tyranids got 8 kits after their box in 10th. Both times it was 2-4 single character kits, 1-3 infantry unit kits, and 1-3 big centerpieces. I'd say it's likely Orks get the same, so let's try and guess what they'll be.

We already know one is the new multi-part Warboss.

One is probably a new Lootas/Burnas dual-kit.

One is probably new Stormboyz.

That leaves 5 more, with centerpiece models and definitely at least one more single character.

Yes anon that means literacy was HIGHER before the Fall ie when European was more pagan. IE pagans were perfectly literate and intelligent without christianity.

Also Space Marines may be catholic coded but half of them fall to chaos. And of the loyal half many of them have chapter tradtions and customs that border heretical and chaotic. Well since this thread went to shit.
I guess it does not hurt to ask.
Do you sometimes write some BS in the 40k setting for your own sake because you want it?
Also what Plot could happen on a Imperial ship that has a job of establishing collonies but the noble financier made so his daughter got into a High position?
>>
>>97981379
Depending on the scale of the narrative decision, it’s pretty hard to truly step on the toes of official lore and truly be “bs” due to the Imperium being galaxy wide and all.
>>
>>97981379
>Do you sometimes write some BS in the 40k setting for your own sake because you want it?
Yes I have several, I think very unique and interesting daemon worlds that have utility for chaos forces to actually go to, beyond being a homebase. Ive come up with, whole factions, small war fronts to retrive or hide mcguffins that are each relics towards a larger plan by chaos daemons to harm the Imperium. Whole cultures and societies and like 2 different unqiue space marine chapters. And a plot for inter-imperial war between loyalist space marines and loyalist sisters of battle over petty bullshit than local plantery governors and the Inquisition are desperate to not get dragged into. Also a basic economic system to explain how a rogue trader gets paid for transporting SoBs (for their war aganist astartes) involving several different currency conversions.
>Also what Plot could happen on a Imperial ship that has a job of establishing collonies but the noble financier made so his daughter got into a High position?

Saying the average citizen in the imperium is capable of reading and writing would already be quite a generous stretch so im pretty sure most imperials dont have the slightest clue about their own history. The few ones who do are probably subjected to a heavily biased version of it and usually only through specialized institutions like the scholar progenium or whatever that one Cain went to was called and the various temples from religious institutions like the ecclesiarchy and the mechanicum. Im pretty sure there's probably some administrative organ in charge of recording and keeping imperial history but much like in real life I doubt they get any significant amount of resources thrown their way specially given the absolutely gigantic task that would be going over countless years of imperial history and characters that are historians or writers and the like are referred to quite often in the novels, im just unsure of what role they would play in imperial society given that any and all types of institutional ways to preserve one's cultural heritage like museums are absent and that the imperium loses track of entire planets for centuries on end due to someone mistyping some coordinates + the lack of any form of proper education

I think it's more of a world by world basis, places with lower signs of civilization, agri worlds and hive worlds dont exactly seem like the best place for great recordkeeping as opposed to a mid sized world in the segmentum solar
Spaces Marines keep their stuff too close to themselves to truly share it with any museum while being aware of it but in a way they chronicle and keep track of their respective chapter's history pretty well most of the time, it's a strong tradition for them and a couple ones like the IF, SW, WS and so on have a habit of constantly telling about their past to new recruits

>Loyal space Marines would kill any christians they found if they existed in 40k for being heretics.
It's funny people think this as controversial take about 40k. The entire point of the Imperium is that it is entirely intolerant of other religions.

Yeah, the Imperial missionaries would try to at first peacefully make christians to convert to the imperial cult, but would fail because christians wouldn't convert since turning your back on God is sure fire way to go to hell.
And neither would christians ever accept the Imperial missionaries bullshit about how the God Emperor is the "same" God as the christians worship. Because that's straight up heretical to christian doctorine.
We can already see this now modern times with Christians and Muslims. Go ahead and try telling them how God and Allah are the same thing, and see what responses you get. It won't be anything nice sounding, I guarantee.

And all of stubborness and resistance this would only result in the Imperium then forcibly subjucating the entire planet and forcing the Imperial Cult upon them and giving them an ultimatum.
Either convert or be executed.
And if the planet resists too much, space marines would be sent in to slaughter the population until they surrender or everyone is dead, after which the Imperium would just colonize the planet anyway.
>>
The renewed Ork invasion of Armageddon appeared to come out of nowhere, and, in a way, it did. Rather than give the Imperium time to prepare as he sailed his massive fleet through the system towards the planet, Ghazghkull turned to his new secret weapon – the mega-tellyshokka, an unimaginably massive teleportation device built by the greatest congregation of Ork ‘genius’ ever assembled. It was this contraption that tore apart the planet on which Yarrick nearly met his end, and now it has flung the entire Ork fleet across impossible distances into the heart of the Armageddon System.

While assembling Exalted Eightbound I realized that there is actually no cosmetic difference between the normal and the exalted. I previously assumed the guys with weapons merged into their flesh and toeclaws were Exalted, but was surprised to learn the Possessed-type Eightbound is apparently just the unit champion. GW didn't even care enough to make the 8b and the exalteds have a visual difference, it's just a direct point upgrade with no cosmetic reflection.

For the exact same reasons that some ancient writings talking about a one-horned animal doesn't justify believing in fairy tales about magical horned horses, the existence of ancient sources talking about a guy names jesus existing does not justify believing in the stories of the bible.
Jesus is a semi-legendary figure. His actual existence is historical, as the fact that he was executed. Believing in anything beyond that makes as much sense as believing that Ragnar Lodbrok really slew a lindorm to claim the hand of the maiden Thora and justifying that belief with the fact that there are a couple of unspecific historical references to a person named Ragnar Lodbrok who existed about the same time the stories describe.
There was a person named Jesus who existed, this is not the same as the character of Jesus as described in the bible existing.

Some fag asked me why I'm consooming when I said I bought a box at a 33% discount so I could sell the extra stuff I don't need so I would essentially get some models I didn't already have for free.

And my mind goes back to the Webway Gate, which I wanted in 2024 but never got, and just found out was discontinued in 2025 and only scalpers remain so I'm not paying 100 bucks for a glorified terrain piece that was 40 bucks on ebay a year ago.

That's why sometimes you gotta consoom. Because otherwise GW discontinues it and then your options are sketchy recast sites, scalpers or buying my own 3d printer. Anyway I went with the fourth option and got a shittier Webway terrain piece from a guy that does 3d printed pieces, but it's not the same model but a different design.

>>
>>97981849
Good to hear for the chestplate, cheers.
As for the boltgun I threw it in there because it was simple enough to do and for variety, the space wolves grey hunters mix bolt carbines and chainswords, so it made a lot of sense to take a carbine if you're equipped for close quarter, it's also like squad leaders using carbines/SMGs since their role is to lead/command rather than fight.
Actual bolt carbines have a different design; they lack the "cylinder thingy" (autoloader) and instead the rail continues for the whole length, so here it was also an occassion to see what it could look like to shorten a bolt rifle.

My ideal redesign for the core marine squads would be:
>Tacticals: work like intercessors but they have boltguns and two storm bolters per 5 models as base that can be upgraded to plasmaguns, like SoB celestians.
>Despoilers: same as above but with chainswords instead of boltguns, they can get two per 5 flamers or meltaguns as upgrades, sergeant can get an eviscerator.
>Assault squads: same as above but with jump packs.
>Devastator squad: same as the tacticals abive but they get 2 per 5 heavy bolter as a base, they can upgrade those for other heavy weapons
>Gravis squad: like the new erradicators with heavy bolters that can be upgraded for multimeltas, heavy flamers and plasma cannons, trades bodies and transports of devastators for better defensive stats
>Veteran and terminator squads stay the same
>Bladeguard and company heros merges into a single command squad with multiple melee weapon options.
>All phobos squads merged into one with three loadouts: shotguns, knife and pistol, sniper rifles, current eliminators as a 1/5 or 2/5 upgrade to the base squad to get a beefier sniper.
>>
>>97982075
Not a single unit outside tacticals and devastators which I don't expect to survive in the new codex can get a boltgun. Only wolf scouts can get an actual plasmagun. Only terminators and classic dreads (which I also doubt they'll survive considering they've ignored them all of 10th desoite having awful rules) can get a proper assault cannon.
>>

Devastators should just be gravis.

My ideal redesign of space marines is to make loyalists chapters extinct. A legend and religious beleif more than a physcial force. The only astartes are the ones in the Eye. Chaos astartes showing the belief in the excistence of the emperors angels is on one hand real, and on the other that they had long left the service of the human race to puruse their own intersts.

Maybe astates are real on their rectruitment worlds, legendary warriors found on only the most isolated and distant of worlds.

I'll do you one better
>Tacticals can take boltguns or chainsword + pistols. Storm bolters become a special weapon. Tactical squad can take 1 special weapon per 5 marines, for 10 marines a special weapon can be switched a heavy weapon
>Devastators is up to 5 special or heavy weapons
>gravis is an upgrade for Tacticals, Assault and Devastators
>Vets can take any weapon they want, like mini-characters, and be upgraded to terminators. This effectively merges terminators and assault terminators together. Vets can also take jumppacks instead of terminator armor, merging vets together as well
>bladeguards are just vets with storm shields and swords, so merged with vets

They are just banking on retards who just see the images, don't read and then just buy the shit anyway because they are retarded.
The title is just there so the seller can just cover their ass when the retard inevitably comes back wanting his money back.

But at the same time, I don't feel bad about this. Some retard spends money on this, it's their own fault for being retarded.

Well, close enough, it just comes down to Gaz turning Armageddon into an attack moon. It would be funny if there's a major clusterfuck coming down to terra like a tyranid hivefleet, a black crusade and Orkz at the same time (And Orkz are the ones that get to Terra first while krumpin everybody else)
>>

Noticed this yesterday too.
>>
You know, Armageddon/Ullanor being the most important planet in the Galaxy to the Orks, but not really anything more than a point of pride for the Imperium is great for creating an endless conflict with good stakes. I feel like all the other minor factions should have some ultimate goal that's not Terra or just the destruction of the Imperium. Like the Tau really wanting Ultramar for political reasons or the Eldar needing to take back a desecrated Crone/Maiden World that the Imperium also needs.

>Going by current points values including Legends stuff and counting the Melta Eradicators in place of the Bolter ones, the Marine half comes out to 620 points
>Assuming the Bigboss is ~60 points and the Dakka walker is around the price of a Deff Dread, the Orks have 800 points if you're taking all 20 boys in one squad

Meanwhile, Marines had ~900 points of models in Leviathan, and Tyranids (Despite being only ~700 points currently) still came with 34 models.

And I'm saying gravis shouldn't be squatted because it is cool.
We can also reduce unit bloat by just combining units more efficiently. Aka, makes devastators gravis.
We already have siege terminators anyway, it's just the assault and regular termies. And if you want to be spicy about the "siege terminator" definition, we have centurions, which look like shit and should be squatted.

I like the captain and intercessors. They look cool.
The eradicators are cool as well, but GW should just combine all gravis unit into 1 kit. Make it 5 man kit and include all options, heavy bolters, heavy boltrifles, heavy flamers/pyreblaster/whatever the fuck you call it, multi melta and boltstorm gauntlets so you can make aggressors.
Call the entire model kit devastator squad or eradicator squad kit, I don't care. Just do it.
>>
>>97982338
Gravis is cool because it fits as a perfect a stop gap between regular power armor and terminators.
That's what makes it cool.
It was never meant to replace terminators anyway, it never had the same abilities or even weapon options.
This is like saying intercessors exist to replace sternguard veterans.

Only thing gravis and terminators have in common is being fat and slow.

>>
>>97982360

There's no design space between those. And it's clear GW knows this because their stats are completely nonesensical with even higher toughness than terminators but a 3+ save. That's not something in-between.

Nothing but equipment. It's worth noting that according to the current lore every Vet is equal and they have access to all the equipment they want. You can have a Vet in a Termie armour while other Vet is sport sick moves in a Phobos armour. Basically any unit can be ran as a 1st company unit.

>combis
I haven't touched 10th for a variety of reasons, and what they did to combi weapons being one of them. Dude having a weapon that's actually two guns into one is as 40k as it comes, but if it's just a reskin for "gun that shoots better" I don't want it. Combis should be "choose a profile", with no limit as to how much the aux weapon can be used, effectively a way to give a model two ranged weapons
>>

>>
>>97982406
>what's the difference between vet intercessors and sternguard vets?
Sterns get better guns.
Also veteran intercessors only exist because GW realized they didn't make a ranged veteran unit for primaris. It was purely a stop gap, it's the reason why we never got a "veteran intercessor squad".

I suggest putting a very noticeable dot or flashy color that stands out on the most armored or easily mobile part of your character's armor. That way enemies looking will inevitably first pay attention to that area and shoot where you have the best chance tanking or moving out the way. Some real life riot shields do this.

Well sweatie
I got into warhammer in the 00s and got
-orks
-space marines/black templars
-tyranids
-grey knights

Then there was about a 12 year intermission

Noooooooooow
I have Chaos marines and I have enough from each of the cult legions and chaos marine crossover units I can half an army that's 50% chaos marines and 50% cult legion (2000 points each.
I acquire dark eldar basically for free, got some harlequins and corsairs too that can be crossed into a soup
I build out the space marines with dark agnels, space wolves and blood angels and kayvaan shrike because you can mix and match space marine forces in one big army same as chaos
I got some IG stuff and GSC stuff because my genestealers and the genestealer broodlord can be used in both armies and cross over nicely.
And I have some deathwatch teams, though I sold the sisters of battle stuff I came into possession of, because the Grey Knights inquisitor is now an Agents of the Imperium inquisitor
In my defens I di dnot buy Kroot or Votann because I did not want to start totally new and expensive armies. I liked Admech until I realized how expensive they were. So I didn't start a bunch of totally new armies, except chaos and drk eldar.

So it's mostly just build out the soups I already had. Haven't gotten many orks though.

All of this has been since 2022, I would estimate about 1200 bucks a year spent on hams of war. Not prideful of this, and my spending was more restricted in 2023 compared to 2024 when I spented too much.
