>>98009978As a noobie, in what case is Rakdos the Defiler playable?Like I get that you can protect your demons, but don't you lose all your lands? So I guess only if you know that you'll win that turn?
>>98010003defiler as a commander becomes playable when you bring him out asap w/ haste and just annihilate people's boards, extra combats much appreciated
Well, at least we were able to get to 400 posts before some sperg needed to plant their flag. Getting better, maybe one day we'll go back to having threads that are allowed to breathe.
>>98010008Disco Elysium was literally a story about two super cliche things:>Dysfunctional individual gets his life together for the sake of his apprentice>Seemingly grandiose political crime was actually committed by one dude for super mundane reasonYet it's seen as one of the as a great story because it executed on it in a way that was memorable. WotC just doesn't give a shit about writing good stories because their first priority has always been set design with the story vaguely happening in the background, often only being added hastily after most of the setting is made. There's nothing new under the sun. The thing that makes a story great is if people remember it. Magic stories are not memorable because WotC does not try to make them memorable. WotC only tries to make stories inoffensive (often failing at that too).
>>98010055>Yet it's seen as one of the as a great story because it executed on it in a way that was memorable.Nobody thinks the story is good. Not only is the game generally controversial, but the lauded part is the way the schizophrenic voices work, not the story. What you're doing is like saying the story of Diablo II or Brood War are masterpieces because people love those games. Most people don't even remember the story of either, they just respect the gameplay itself. Hell, a fair number of Brood War players and fans probably haven't even played the story.
>>98009927What's the best way to buy a commander deck irl? Do you just buy all 100 cards individually?
>>98010121buy singles
>>98010119Disco Elysium was genuinely total dogshit as an actual game. It's legitimately walking sim tier with your stats barely mattering because you have to go out of your way to fail. Many people now say the best way to "play" the game is to edit the files and let yourself start with max all stats so you see all the dialogue from passive checks because it barely influences anything else. Anti-checks, despite what the game implies, are barely used and some stats have less than 4 active checks in the whole game, with some having no red checks at all. That's like saying people liked Undertale for the gameplay. No they absolutely didn't that game was fucking horrible. People just liked the quirk chungus writing because it was memorable against the myriad of stories made to be as homogeneous as possible.
>>98010119>>98010136I think you're talking about different things here. The story in Disco Elysium, as in the plot itself, is awful. Genuinely terrible. The worst kind of shaggy dog story. What's good is the presentation, essentially the prose. Calling that gameplay is... questionable. It's dogshit, but with lots of filters and confetti that entertain you. Back to the original point, I think the real problem is this assumption:>The thing that makes a story great is if people remember it.People remember the worst stories as much as they remember the best ones. It's the middle that get forgotten. Magic stories are definitely firmly in the middle, but their presentation is also lackluster. Disco Elysium's is on the low end, but with great presentation, and that dissonance makes people remember it.
>>98010155Magic does not try to create memorable stories. It tries to create inoffensive ones.A daring story that tries and fails is memorable. An excellent story is also memorable. The type of story Magic aims for is whatever can be put out in short notice on minimal budget while offending the smallest amount of people. This is why Magic struggles to have its story actually maintain any sort of relevance even in the minds of people that play the fucking game all day. Because the story begins at "Okay we put all these characters together in this setting. Make it make sense," even when that "setting" is "We just dressed up all the iconic characters in cowboy outfits but still want to pretend this is part of a larger narrative."There is no desire to make something compelling from the moment the story is commissioned. The story was never made to be anything more than a background element.
Is there a way to build her fun instead of instant archenemy? After realizing how expensive the secret lair version I bought just to collect the art got I kinda want to make a deck to show her off.
>>98010279unfortunately her reputation precedes her so no there is no way not to become archenemy beyond begging the pod not to focus fire you
>>98010279The entire deck identity is cheating out big stuff quickly. It's kind of hard not to pull a lot of aggro doing that since it's just so explosive. You can maybe reduce the amount of aggro you pull by mention pregame that you're just building one of the three tribes? It's a bit of a pity, she's very pretty and would make a great waifu commander but both versions just don't sit well with me.
>>98010279Imagine sitting down across from Urza, Lord High Artificer. The owner of the deck assures you it's not, like, that bad. It's a normal deck, not worthy of being archenemy.Would you believe him?
>>98010279Nope. You can't play coy and pretend she's not a huge threat if people leave her alone. All of those tribes have some completely game ruining shit that can get dropped onto the table if nobody kills her. You have to thug it out and hope whenever protection you packed is enough.
Has anyone ever ran into the "resolve your triggers guy" even when you don't have legal targets/have to use them? I was playing baylen and had aura shards out and destroyed everyones artifacts and enchantments but when I played another hare apparent one dude was like "you have 5 aura shards triggers!!" and I responded with "well it's a may ability?" and he immediately was like "well that's still 5 triggers you still have to go through all of them before you play anything else!" I get that sure it's the rules but if it's a may ability and none of my opponents have targets im not gonna sit and waste time. To top it off too no one had interaction so like priority for a response wasn't needed on these triggers I don't get it people are weird.
gotta get rid of some cards https://moxfield.com/decks/rvUvGjzpN06W5ZXn3uRDrw need help nekusar bracket 3
>>98010341I've played probably hundreds of games where someone plays a notorious commander, and starts the game off by saying "oh it's not that commander deck". Then proceeds to play every single combo line & staple for that commander. Out of ALL those interactions I've only ever seen ONE deck where it actually was different and it was a UR- Dragon deck with a 6 card chaos combo that killed the ur dragon player and then gave the rest of the opponents a copy of ur dragon.
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
>>98010341I don't trust an EDH player to correctly state how many cards are in their hand, let alone how strong their deck is.Why do you think "My deck is a 7" was such a fucking joke?
>>98010311I'm thinking I try her as voltron with the only creatures being the ones in the secret lair. They're still big hits, but when I only have 3 creatures in the 99 people will probably be willing to gamble on letting her attack.
>>98010279If you're building Kaalia for fun/casual and don't want to be archenemy. You basically have to play her for colors/art and ignore her abilities. Otherwise even throwing in the budget dragons/demons/angels in will still overrun the board in casual cause she's just that good at cheating out 8 cost 7/7 flying creatures. That will always gets you targeted.
>>98010407But if she's voltron then like why let her attack anyway?
>>98010406That is an insane beard.
If you kill the boss, you become the boss. That's how it's done in the Syndicate.
>>98009978There was a time when Rakdos was pro-tiddies. That time is past.
Anyone else feel like they get forced to play a certain deck?>in a pod with a guy who has some GY recursion shit going on where his turns take 20 minutes>playing a blue deck>immediately counterspell his ass any time he tries to go on a 20 minute loop>dude acts like I've murdered his firstborn child>other two players are just doing some useless shit with playing taplands and are infinitely behind me and the looping guyLike if I'm not playing blue, this guy will just spin out of control near immediately and torture everyone with his endless turns. I'm fucking tired of playing blue, but literally no one else is packing interaction besides me.
Apparently WOTC was telling creators about unannounced sets at magcon.Any of these loose lipped fags leak anything spicy yet?
>>98011075>make a habit of making it "your" job to deal with one player>be surprised when everyone just leaves it for you to dothe other two very likely have some ways to deal with him, but if you regularly subscribe yourself to fucking with the guy people are just gonna let you do all the heavy lifting so they can build themselves up and win
>>98010119Some schizos on /v/ are not the general opinion of the game
>playing prismari precon but added a bunch of shit I pulled >turn 5>some 3 mana creature gives me 2 mana on precombat mainstep>ponder>mana geyser>creative technique>get prismari storm dragon off the top>2nd hit is pic rel, storm of 3>end up hitting goldspan dragon and rite of replication(kicked)>have 45+ goldspan dragons and winOutside of ponder and the prismari dragon, the new precons are fkin nuts
>>98010279Nope, just lean into it.
>>98011075>I'm fucking tired of playing blue, but literally no one else is packing interaction besides me.why not instead of playing blue just for counterspells to not lose, play other colors to just combo off and win
>>98011207Because that just becomes a stupid game of "who can pull their combo pieces faster." The objectively correct thing to do is delete a person's route to victory, since 99.999% of players in edh have no back up plans. Like if you stick their commander in gay baby jail, there's a high chance their entire game plan just fails.
>>98010806>becomes a puppet leader>gets blamed for everything during WAR to the point she 'owes' TeysaTeysa really did get away with fucking everything didn't she? She doesn't even have to be a cripple anymore since now she's a super ghost.
>>98011303>>98011303>since 99.999% of players in edh have no back up plansIt's kind of crazy how many decks just run out of gas with a single board wipe.
>>98011336She's worth it.
>>98010279Timesifter.dec
>>98010341Yes. I have no reason not to.
>>98011336Kaya single-handedly nuked Orzhov's treasury and creed by issuing mass debt forgiveness, so she got the biggest laugh.
>>98011207Or just play non-counterspell cards that disrupt their strategy
>>98010121100% buy singles unless you look at someones deck and immediately fall in love with how it plays
>>98011346I RARELY see people have a back up plan, at least at my LGS. I'm convinced 99% of players treat edh as some sort of show and tell party, and using interaction is considered satanic. I once had Y'Shtola out with Sigil of Sleep, and I just bounced commanders back to hand every turn. All 3 players scooped the second time it happened.
The time has come for you to say something nice about MOM.
>>98011346>>98011303It's actually surprising that hardly anyone runs any kind of countermeasures just in case their deck couldn't get one of their combos off. I've at least seen an Oloro player switch to winning from combat when he couldn't win with the typical lifegain wincon
>>98011446she has big tiddies
>>98011446This card exists and I like it
>>98011446>>98011494Oh yeah. The team-up cards were cute.
>>98011446jacetice league done rightteam ups and battles were funkind of a wet fart ending but what can you do
>>98011446Uhhh at least it wasn't WAR?
>>98011546>WAR?what is it good for?
>they care about the loreI just play cards that lpok pretty or do the thing.
>>98011539>jacetice league done right"Right" as in it made Jace immediately faceplant and exit the story while the Superfriends he assembled sorted the whole situation out in spite of his useless ass?
>>98011565same honestly, I even put this in Toph, The First Metalbender to draw a card at the end of turn. You can call me a piggy now
>>98011578I like the cartoon art version more
>>98011578There's a certain charm to making an UB barf pile. Sometimes I try to make a deck that's all UB, so it ends up as some horrible monstrosity that has every UB mixed in.>mfw I can now add MLP cancer to the mix
>>98011565in truth nobody does, that's why UB exists in the first place
>>98009978>Who are your favorite mtg villains and do you like them enough to build them edh decks?my first commander deck ever was the c17 wizards precon, which i immediately modified to switch inalla, archmage ritualist out for mairsil, the pretender, without knowing the first thing about him lorewiseand later i got a copy of "the gathering dark" solely so that i could read the one book that my favorite commander was in(and since then i've kind of wanted cards for voska and sima, too)
>>98010341I trusted him and this happened>go to my LGS for the first time in a month>they introduce me to this new dude>bald chrome dome, 6ft+ tall>pretty chill guy>sit down to play>pulls his mono U urza deck>actually thopter tribal, not near cedh>still pubstomping us because it's fucking urza>activates urza, exiles Cyberdrive Awakener>he just needs to cast it and got lethal with all his clues and rocks>suddenly this super sweet, smoking hot babe appears "looking for her hubby">with the Awakener in his hand, dude goes "oh guys gotta leave it was fun playing with you!">concedes on the spot packs his things and leavesEven if it's true, Urza player will still fuck you over with psychic damage
>>98010341>play a nice brwcket 2/3 game>shuffle up>one person pulls out a kefka deck>oh are we playing high power decks now?>no it's not like thkse kefka decks>so is it alright if we just keep the same decks?>yeah it won't be a problem>its just a grixis goodstuff flicker pile>he took all the game changers out of it so he could say its bracket 2nope, never trust randos. I'll just run what I assume based on your commander and if you prove yourself that it is in fact a weak deck then I'll adjust accordingly in later games
>>98011964>jodah>"no guys its got a theme dont bully">"the theme is nothing but lotr legendaries + all the usual legendary support>he kills everyone t5Nothing is true, everything is permitted
>>98010406What if they call it a 7 because it starts with 7 cards in its hand?
it's a seven because you all play a total 7 spells before I kill you all
>>98010375Probably just a rule stickler
>>98011964>play my kefka deck>its mario party (spells like over the top, etc but not chaos warpworld shit) / black mages / FF tribal>have mirror match out>cast galvanic iteration, bonus round, seething song, rapturous moment, random encounter>pic rel and a bunch of dudes, get 8 mindclaw shamans>cast ruinous ultimatum from my opponents hand three times (actually kills persist critters)>cast time warp three times from another opponents hand>cast a proliferate skill>swing 4 hasted lvl 2 odin sagas to win>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WE CANT DEAL WITH THIS
>>98011937The problem is Urza himself is so power warping that no matter what you do, he's gonna fuck you. It's like someone playing Eldrazi and promising the deck isn't a bunch of giant assholes with annihilator.
>>98011193Oh sweetNew Toy Maker cards
>>98010341If I was like this I'd just refuse to play against any commander in the top 1k
>>98010260It used to not be that way. Magic changed when we started allowing freaks like Spice8rack, troons and cucks like TCC in the game.
>>98012168If someone told my they built a fair Eldrazi deck I could believe it since there are fair ways to play that deck if you just don't play to turbo out the 9+ mana niggas with the usual degenerate colorless ramp tools. If someone told me they build an Eldrazi deck with all the "small" Eldrazi I'd give it a fair shot.
>>98011346I played a wipe at my very first game in a new town and I had 2 little pussys scoop. Wasnt even that far in the game. Soured my experience of that LGS for awhile
>>98012247>If someone told me they build an Eldrazi deck with all the "small" Eldrazi I'd give it a fair shot.>he hasn't seen Ulalek in full degenerate mode with the "small" Eldrazi>he hasn't experienced the unholy terror of Ulalek responding to his own responses >he hasn't seen NINE FUCK SOL RINGS hit the tableSee with Zhulodok, I know to expect the turbo ramp and 9+ cmc big boys. Ulalek just leaves you in terror because that asshole can spit out stuff like 8 copies of Hideous Taskmaster, the Ole Deceiver of Form wombo combo, and so on.
>>98011446I got all the precons for free because the seller on Ebay accidentally sent those instead of a box, so dude said keep em, your box is OTW. Box was full of crazy value cards. That was pretty nice.
>Cellarspawn are manifestations of Valgavoth's daydreams, entities that embody his vision of a world of never-ending terror and fear: beautiful to him and terrifying to everyone else. And from this we can infer that he daydreams about people having a butt for a face.
>>98012325idk he looks jewish to me
>>98012247>>98012247there are lots of fun eldrazi
>>98012165I wasn't one of the 3 players at your LGS sorry
>>98012273>nine sol ringshow? it says right there mana abilities cant be copied
>>98012237>allowedlol
>>98012461you don't copy the ability, you copy the sol ring on the stack, with the other ability doubling on the stack. chad eldrazi players run this guy instead of ulalek because ulalek is cancer
>>98012461>sol ring>activate ability>hold prio>cast spell>activate ability>ability copies sol ring and first ability>repeat
>>98012461You become the most horrible degenerate known to man with flash enablers.>get a flash enabler like cicada, Urza's Thopter, Veld Orrery, etc>(optional) get a effect doubler like roaming throne, echoes of eternity, or both>play Sol Ring>play any Eldrazi midget in response to the Sol Ring at flash speed (due to your enablers)>stack is now Sol Ring, Eldrazi>Ulalek sees it and can activate his ability at instant speed>stack is now sold ring, eldrazi, ulalek ability>entire stack is doubled, currently two Eldrazi, two sol rings>if you used echoes, thst would be four eldrazi, four rings>if you had echoes and roaming throne, that's 8 eldrazi, 8 rings>if you play another midget at flash, you can respond to your response>stack is now ring, eldrazi, ulalek, eldrazi, ulalek>this doubles the doubles >throw in echoes and throne for LMAO 32 FUCKING RINGS
>>98012165To be fair, that does sound like a lot of bullshit to deal with
dumb question I know but should I put Rings in my Ezuri deck?
