Fights against single large monsters, or fights against large numbers of monsters?
>>98011474Yes. Although I am personally more interested in single large monsters vs regular humans.
>>98011513>tanks versus monsters
A bit interested in Armoured Clash, anyone know how it plays in practice?
TQ:The Doomed/Grimlite. Being from Chris McDowall it's got that TRPG + weird theater kid thing going on. But it's a slightly different take on skirmish level squad versus monster (Horror) with progression/campaign possibilities. The boss monster mechanics are well thought out if a bit MMO like. All the pre-Osprey rules are still available on his blog.
>>98011686Isn't that the game where everything your character can do and has is summed up in one number known as its "stat"?
>>98011732this could only work if it improved roles that positively affect the character but also worsen roles that negatively affect the character, so that instead of being strictly worse-to-better on a scale the options ranged from stable-to-risky giving different value to every character.
Warzone Eternal finally avaible in YuropI'm thinking about getting 2 or 3 mortificator and just use them in any agnostic game
How is Planet28 second edition, especially its solo rules?
>>98012465"Final edition" is on Kickstarter now btw, basically 2nd with the FAQst. Guy who bought one of the last 2nd books.
>39p eachI mean god they're not good, but a cheap way of playing those 35mm+ Marvel games they have now
>>98012465>especially its solo rules?Serviceable and get the job done, not terribly complex, ,the rulebook is free on Wargamevaulthttps://www.wargamevault.com/en/product/409696/planet-28-second-editionAs anon said, the Final Edition is on kickstarter and its cheap too which is nice if you missed out on the Second Edition hardbacks
>>98012574You could try repainting them, so they look.slightly less like sinojank.
>>98012574>Die cast>Strip and repaint, should look decent. Maybe do them in an old comics style with matching terrain
>1/2 of my WGA Damned stuff came in>just sprues>not all the gamefound spruesLet's hope the 2/2 is a big package with the rest of the sprues and the boxes. Was this how it went with you lads who backed the damned? >t. leaf
A better view of my demons and giant, bonus animated skull. The giant will get more attention to detail, the demons are just going to be red with equipment picked out.
>>98013024>t. leaf>tea leafhue hue hue
>>98013097Nice. I hope there isn't going to be any blondes.
>>98013430That giant will be the uberest of mensch
>>98013546In fact, thanks to anon sperging out, everything in my Frostgrave collection with a head of hair (or beard) that won't look outright absurd as a blonde, will be blonde.Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Vampires, Giants, etc...Not Goblins, Gnolls, etc... though.
>>98013144>MFW that punYou clever little bastard you.You made me giggle.Anyways please give me your positive energy to me that my stuff arrives so Wargames Atlantic's Izzat is fully restored.I'm gonna see if I can use my incomplete collection of the original Damned STLs to modify them into holding close enough looking "chainsaw carry" weapons so their HWTs can fit on the smallest possible bases for maximum compatibility of games.Assuming my Damned STLs didn't get damned through file corruption.Anybody got the Damned STLs by chance to share just in case?
>>98013789Blonde the gnolls you coward, give us the gnollden retrievers.
>>98013867They'll be like the wolves/werewolves, white fur.But also I'm using a mix of skaven/gnolls/bugbears/goblins for them because there are not enough hyena-gnoll models to get the full variety, so they will be eclectic in aesthetics.
maybe /grog/ would be better to answer, but what game would be the best to have something like 40k 2nd ed? Renegade scout or Rogue Hammer? Something else? I want the 2-4 squads, 1-2 characters, and 1 vehicle and/or walker size game feel
>>98014202>Renegade scout or Rogue HammerNeither, in truth. Both games have established rosters and character types that don't really play particularly well with 40K profiles.
>>98014202There should be a pastebin list of alternative wargames to still use Citadel miniatures like Necromunda, Horus Heresy, 40k, Fantasy etc.It might save a lot of posting space. Not sure how it will be organized but I'd organize it from intended to be free fan projects to paid for.
>>98014202Have you considered just playing 2nd edition 40k? The books didn't evaporate when 3rd came out
I don't get to post in this general too often, but I finally got started painting some of these CheckPoint miniatures dwarfs I got years ago.Ottoman dwarfs aren't something you see too often, and I'm happy to have gotten the whole range when I did.
>>9801420228mm Ion Age might interest you. It is essentially a competitor from that era, frozen in time.Unfortunately vehicles and 40k-style squads are the domain of the 15mm version, the 28mm version is a skirmish game. Delightful /grog/ flavour, though.
>>98015030That test FEC is tripping balls lmao.
Anyone here played Hide, Stone, and Bone or Guards of Traitor's Toll?Any good?
First layer of glaze down on the demons and giant, might have time for a second tonight.
Are there any games that have a very fine line between being a wargame and a roleplaying game? Perhaps like old Warhammer Quest, but with more freedom to use all the cool ass minis in your collection, but with a story driven RPG narrative ? Could be scifi or fantasy.
>>98015803Frostgrave is the first thing that comes to mind.
>>98015803I'm thinking something that has both the Dungeon crawling aspect of Advanced HeroQuest or Warhammer Quest, but can also be used for more open battlefields like a town, forest, spaceport, etc. Idk if I'm explaining this well, maybe this game only exists in my head
>>98015810Yeah I would enjoy Frostgrave if you weren't forced to play a wizard
>>98015803Flintloque but it's Napoleonic fantasy.
>>98015803Might as well play an RPG with a minis combat element. AD&D + Battlesystem (Skirmishes), etc.
>>98011513What scale btr is that and which manufacturer made it?
>>98015896Not him but Empress makes the best ones for 28mm, that one looks like it could be Empress but I'm not sure>>98015876I read Battlesystem because I found the rulebook at a thrift store and it seemed like the worst ruleset I had ever read
>>98015803>>98015811There's a decent amount of skirmish wargames with strong rpg elements. Check out Rangers of Shadowdeep and 5 Miles From The Borderlands for fantasy specifically. Five Parsecs From Home is the SciFi version and Fivecore Skirmish Essentials is the older version. This Is Not A Test is more of a post apocalyptic warband game but strong gang rpg focus.
>>98011513>>98015896wait a second, that's not a BTR that's a spähpanzer luchs!
>>98014327I don't necessarily want to play 40K profiles, just the format of few squads + chars + vehicle.>>98014334I'll check thx.>>98014344That is also an option, but I'm curious if there is something more modern. And I don't have 40k minis, would have to get or proxy.>>98015122It actually does, 15mm even more. I was even thinking of getting some 15mm from AA. I'll give it a look.
>>98015989Vor the Maelstrom or it's reimplementation as No Limits might work. Renegade Scout might work, but that is more a RT clone. Someone did a Warlords of erehwon conversion to 40k, that should be a very good fit. Alternatively take a look at Beyond the gates of antares v2, very different tech wise though.>>98015803Savage worlds showdown, rangers of shadow deep and generally the *grave (mix and match), 5 xxx from whatever (though the wargame aspect is weak in my opinion). Otherwise stuff where you can convert to/from an rpg like battlesystem(dnd) or armalion(tde v2 and v3). Or, for very small skirmish games, just run a combat centric rpg like pf1 or dnd4.
Is Kings of War the Fantasy version of Firefight or of Deadzone?
>WGA put their warring states at the very bottom of the coming soonThey're just not gonna release them and then just pretend they never said anything aren't they?
>>98016279Technically Firefight now.But first edition Warpath (when it was 28mm) was basically Kings of War but sci-fi. Even the miniatures were the plastic Mantic Fantasy Orcs and Dwarf sprues with extra parts added.Warpath was the "main" game like 40k, Firefight was like "40k in 40 minutes" or Combat Patrol, and Deadzone is kind of the Kill Team proxy. There was the Star Saga boardgame too. Then a couple of years ago they made Firefight the main 28mm game, and (Epic) Warpath the 6mm game.
>>98016524They've come a long way. We'll see if they are going to use their new MMF Tribe to bring back Reb models and introduce them as a Firefight faction. It's not like they would make less sense than Mazon Labs.
>>98016638But I guess we'll get updated Nameless first, they are currently pretty shrimple.
>>98011396Got my BLKOUT box, excited to try this game out. Anyone here have any experience? From everything I’ve seen the rules look fun and snappy, which is a nice break from the more complex games I play.Playing the UN. Excited to be the bad guys.
>>98016774>Anyone here have any experience?Explosives with Blast[X] like RPG don't deal the damage they write next to their name to infantry, only to vehicles. Because you can't target inf directly and they take only dmg from the blast which is>Infantry within X” of the Mark must make an Armor Check, rolling a number of D10 equal to the number of Successes the Shooting Model made. Models must mark a point of Damage for each D10 that rolls under their Armor. That's one of the things we made as a mistake when we tried the game some time ago.
I really like Space Weirdos. The dice system is nice, rules are simple, you can easily add stuff to it. Mayhaps things are a little too simplified, but I that's alright.Gave a try to Xenotactics which was pretty cool with all the reactions, but overall felt half-baked.My list of games to check and try next is:>Planet 28>Brutality Skirmish>Xenos Rampant>FiveCore, Renegade Scout, Squad hammer, SLAM-15 and Mystic Space (when I get some 15mm dudes)>SLUDGE(big maybe)and once I get some fantasy minis>Sword Weirdos>Fantastic Scuffles>Burrows and Badgers (maybe)maybe SOBAH and Open Combat, but Weirdos/Scuffles seem to cover those
>>98016910>>FiveCore, Renegade Scout, Squad hammer, SLAM-15 and Mystic Space (when I get some 15mm dudes)I still don't get why this guy made like 40 sci-fi skirmish games
>>98016832Good to know, I remember hearing blast was a little complicated, but that makes sense
>>98015896No idea, got it on a lose miniature sale, no box or label just >BTR>>98015951Oh shit. Neat.
In case anyone still cares for the A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) game: The german shop Taschengelddieb has a 50% dicsount on 66 of the sets, including starter boxes. pic related for example. I was never really interested in the game, and i did think the miniatures for themselves are too expensive for just a couple monopose figures with repeated poses in each box, but for below 20€ for a box of troops i think its not too bad, even if its just to get some minis to paint
>>98017167I grabbed a box of the giants at one point, because giants are pretty scale agnostic. They aren't bad. Certainly worth it at a discount.
>https://www.playrenegades.com/How is the renegades game?>>98016774>Got my BLKOUT boxI am happy for you and hoping hard that it is a genuinely fun game.I am hoping my Xenos Rampant game is also fun as I bought the hardcover book. Forgot my rule of checking PDFs first before buying.
>>98017467looks like KT without GW cancer
>>98017442Can you show a picture? How big are they? Of all the boxes, the giants do not show the indvidual miniatures.
>>98018191
>>98013789>Not Goblins, Gnolls, etc... though.BRB, sculpting peroxide blonde afros onto my Beastmen>>98013867>give us the gnollden retrievers. You gave me and the wife a princely giggle, Anon, have an internet.>>98014202WarEngine, Ion Age. I prefer WarEngine but I've already preached its virtues a couple times recently. TL:DR simple system, handles up to dreadnoughts pretty well, pre-statted armies to give some idea of "intended" power level and then all the tools to make your 40k army work. To give you an idea of the tone, the main rulebook for Shockforce has the following factions as core:>undead robot cowboys>Mafia bootlegger orks>Pentecostal snake-handlin' Shub-niggurath cultists>CorpSec Imperial Guard proxies>Mutants (mostly beastmen) led by dominatrixes and juiced-out Conan clones>Skaven punk rockers with machine guns>Ratskin Renegades with totem magic that worksWhich is all before we get to the GWAR book.
>>98018424>blonde afrosI want someone who isn't in on the joke to look at my collection without thinking "That's weird".
>>98018371>Class-photo of 2011
>>98015803Iirc Savage Worlds is supposed to be pretty seamless between RPG and skirmish wargame, with the main difference being how many characters you control at once.
>>98018424That’s one more to Ion Age then. I kinda like their sculpts and interested in 15mm.I’ll read up on this GWAR WarEngine thing. thx
Anyone else have a list on their phone of links to cool minis they want to buy?
>>98018549i use a pc
>>98018623Millennial
>>98015803Iron Kingdoms Full Metal Fantasy was basically Privateer Press backporting the mechanics of Warmahordes into an RPG after D&D left the third edition rules that Iron Kingdoms was originally a setting for.Because the resolution rules for the RPG are identical to the wargame, you could easily jump between the two. But its out of print and they went back to doing D&D content because they were broke.

>>97994710>>97994634>>97993723Somehow my neighborhood got IP rangebanned for a bit, which is why this reply is so late.Anyway. Players always hate the slightest hint of fucking with their activations, even if it's mechanically less dangerous than other stats.Consider the following: instead of Panache, using magic reduces Resistance (I'm assuming that's your toughness/defense stat). Juicing can restore lost Resistance, but not overtop it, so there's no incentive to camp corpses in the early game. Track penalties with tokens on thec character sheet, they get cancelled by Juice tokens. Once the number of Juice tokens hits the starting Resistance level, they have to test every turn or get mutated. That leaves an incentive to not Juice in the late-game, while still having to choose whether or not to cast spells and further reduce their own defenses. Ragged magical girls blowing the last of their stamina to nuke a troublesome opponent is thematic as hell, after all.You could also give players a *bonus* to Panache as long as they're not Juiced, which creates some conscious risk-management, and psychologically losing a bonus always feels like less of a kick in the balls than taking a penalty>why not fuck with HP instead?Because I messed around with a hack of Fairy Meat doing something very similar, and the whole Meat/Glimmer economy in that encourages camping corpses, while also leading to a very slow endgame where all the characters are damned near invincible instead of rageddy and beat to shit
>>98020837He looks really nice. The pic is a little bit blurry, but i like the shading.
>>98019446They aren't shipping the box selections in individual product boxes, you just get a giant pile of sprues
Any games featuring any Mayan-tech, or similar factions? I like Lizardmen in WHFB, and expected a more sci-fy or mayan tech version of them in Age of Sigmar, but instead more or less Seraphons are the same. And then I found Grimdark Future having "Lizardmen-in-space", bugits just Lizardmen with iron clubs and having a shoulder rocket launcher...
>>98020837Hard covee is fine for collecting, shit for using. Mos gaming rule books only come in hard cover, so most gamers dont get why they're shit, but any serious reader takes paperbacks every day, only collectors choose hard cover because they look nicer on the shelf.
>>98022248Hard cover is tougher and is easier to lay flat on the table, much better for actual use. You lay rulebooks on a table or your lap in game, you don't read them like a novel. To get a softcover rulebook to lay flat you usually have to break its back if its not a thin quick start booklet.
>>98021223Resistance is indeed the equivalent of defense. Mechanically I'm tempted to remove it since in practice Magical shields are doing the same thing. Absorbing hits from weapons, but if I do that then I would not have an stat for non magical things, like regular humans that show up to clean up the situation. But since Magical Shields are reduce with each hit and can restore a single point with an action. I'm not sure.Tested it with restoring shield at the start/end of round/activation at full strength or just a point and just made the models too tanky sepcially the ones with MS of 2 or more.Resistance is not lost by anything... but it being lost by each hit they counter is an idea I had not consider.
>>98022218I'm sure. I've definitely seen a bunch of mayan/aztec inspired golems and mechs througout the years. Off the top of my head I can only think of Dark Age when it comes to that specific theme though and the game has been dead for a while.Mythic Americas might have some miniatures as the entire system is about mayas vs aztecs involving undead and werecreatures. Wouldn't be suprised if you can find some constructs in that range as well. Most games that have that stuff have it has a minor faction usually, but it is not as rare as one might suspect.
>>98022218>its just Lizardmen with iron clubs and having a shoulder rocket launcher...They are a bit more than just that.
>>98022218Monsterpocalypse had some Mayan/Aztec units but the monsters are too big and the minions too small to use for most other purposes, and looking at them again they're not particularly tech-y.
