>>98046596We don't mind being called Nordic as it is just an overall grouping of the northern european countries.Being called scandinavian is however wrong both geographically and ethnically. Scandis live on the scandinavian peninsula aka Norway and Sweden, plus in Iceland and Denmark. Finland is not part of that peninsula. Scandis are also Germanic peoples, whereas we Finns are not, we are Finno-Ugric and though we have mixed a lot with the germanics over the past millenia, we still are our distinct ethnic group that is clearly separate from other European ethnicities. Historically we weren't even considered to be european/white by race sciences of 19th and early 20th century. Our language is entirely different from the scandinavian languages which again, are just germanic tongues. There is some cultural overlap over mythological stuff especially when it comes to folk tales about fair folk/fae type of entities however the ancient gods of Finland were different from the norse gods of the scandis. Scandi religions were just offshoots of germanic paganism whereas Finnic paganism was it's own thing, heavily animistic in nature with various animals like the moose and especially the bear being holy animals. The gods in that paganism, at least from what little is known of them, were sort of embodiments of various natural elements like god of the forests, lakes and the sky (skygod being the head honcho like often is in Eurasian paganism).Christianity of course pushed that pagan stuff into the background for both us and the scandis.
