Title
I impulse bought rulebooks that aren’t warhammer or dnd because of analogue ownership feelings and the hope that future games could be had with them.Still no games but at least I supported the industry outside the big names is how I cope.Same goes and same copes for excess models from smaller studios.
I illegally printed several books I bought off DrivethruRPG, pirated from /tg/ and other sources.
I went into my DnD game with a class/race combo I wanted to play before seeing what is allowed in the DM's setting.
I want to have a sprawling worldbuilding project amd yet I can't even do that right
I currently run a low fantasy campaign. Character creation uses 3d6 down the line low randomized stat generation with a small selection of Tolkienesque races. There is no player class or option to have access to magic, which is instead restricted to alchemy, rituals to appease spirits, or magic items. The players are not kings and often have to do political intrigue shenanigans to avoid negative attention from local powers. While not totally hopeless, as they've slayed a few monsters and raided a dungeon, they know there are bigger forces out there then them as they found a corpse of a dragon slain by a local demigod-like figure. This character is actually my furry OC I run solo adventures with in the same setting. She has multiple spellcasting class levels and can mix & match the features freely and has an optimized stat array. NPCs refer to my character in hushed whispers where as to not metagame I roll on a table to see if my character knows anything about them, which is usually no. I have no intention of them meeting but I've prepared multiple contingency plans for if the party ever tries to mess with my SRPG character, as they WILL lose.
>>98062244Been working on my custom world for 10 plus years and still haven't put all the notes and ideas together. (I have some on a app, some on word docs, and some written down on old notebooks and all. Not counting the shit in my head.)
The last time I saw a "voicelines your character would make" thread, where weird autists make Baldur's Gate-style bark charts for their character; I made fun of them and could not conceive of why someone would want to do something like that. But seeing the average state of this board, I realise how I was wrong. They were cringe, but they were free, and I hope they come back and make another thread in the same vein, and that they ignore haters like me. I wish I had a fraction of their power.
>>98062244I've had a few models sat on my kitchen table for painting for over a month now.
>>98062244I started making Mork Borg homebrew to grift on itch.io and now I actually run it as a "we're down a couple people, lets play a oneshot" game.
>>98062547At one point. I agree that's cringe as a puckee thread. However I also agree, half of the time it's other the weird autistics too into their character. However that's a when bored might join in for shit and giggles and who knows. Might end up using that list for real cause I already made it. (Like when you talking to your friend toddler and they ask you the what's your fav. color or dino. Most people don't think about that shit. However you might seriously think about it for a second cause of boredom and who asked you. So if it comes again you have a true answer but not for autistic reasons now.)
>>98062244i always wanted to play d&d but my nerd friends turned out to be normie geeks that played halo 3 all day. they're also not my friends anymore, bunch of cunts. anyway i've never experienced teenage enamorement towards role playing games.
>>98062547>>98062587creativity always runs the risk of looking sillynot everything is born already polished and matureraw emotions being "cringe" are an unavoidable part of the dealin fact they are its source of power
>>98062244I have been on and off painting for at least 8 years. I’ve never finished an army (started many) or played a game with my minis.>tfw painting a new army as of two months ago

>>98062244>Confession thread>On SundayFucking finally...In the previous week, on past Wednesday, I promised my group that I'm going to read the new rulebook and prep the game. I stopped running that game by late 00s.It's Sunday, I've got 3 days to the game I've promised them and I'm on page 92 out of 350. And first 60 pages were lore.Worst yet, I regret fucking nothing. The game is a slog, I recalled why I've stopped running it eventually when I started the read and don't even feel bad about failing the promise. I more or less remember the rules in general just from the handful of re-read pages, so the motivation to sit to it and fully read them is even lowerWhat I DO feel bad about is that I asked a friend to sort of control me about this shit last Saturday, and she bi-daily asks me about the reading progress, and I feel awful whenever reporting my measle progress, but even that doesn't motivate me to sit down and read it.
>>98062548Ahahaha, cute.My backlog stretches 15 years. I just dug out minis I bought at Phalanx 2024.
>>98062244I went to my college's "tabletop" club, and upon finding out that it was just social games in a room that happened to have a shelf (with the closest things to TTRPGs being pathfinder 2e, D&D 5e, and a PBTA game), I autistically ranted about why they aren't real roleplaying games due to forced balance and the lack of world emulation, and left after realizing that nobody cared about what I had to say. I already wasn't planning to play a long-term RPG with them (although I did play a board game) because I looked at their discord server (already a bad sign) and it was all downstream from critical role (I'm a zoomer but I've wanted to play real D&D in-person ever since I read the AD&D monster manual)
I'm an LGS owner and my BiL works at a plastics manufacturer and we figured out a way to convincingly reseal CCG packs. So now I'm making an insane amount of money selling singles and selling packs with trash rares. Just bought a new car and set my daughter up with a college fund. I also don't play games personally anymore. Running a store ruined that for me. I feel like I'm running an insane asylum or a group home for autists sometimes. I don't know how these freaks have so much disposable income.
If there is an option to play as a furry / animal character, I always take it.
>>98062918.. where is the sin part?
>>98062946Playing games, I presume.
>>98062244I didn’t thin my paints
I do not sort my downloaded STLs
>>98062244I actually play games
>>98062244I fudge numbers while playing, but only against the players (I never let them survive when I can get a kill, but always make it so that half the minions were out camping when they attacked and now they are coming back if they ended the fight too quickly for my taste)
>>98062797>15 yearsI gotta get to work on my models.
>>98062831CCG players deserve it at this point. I think you’re doing them a favor and accelerating their disengagement from CCG’s which are inherently anti-consumer
I edited the /osrg/ subject to exclude 2e a while ago and got a couple of my non-fa/tg/uy buddies on discord to manufacture consent in the thread for its removal. And now I spam the catalog with Open OSR threads to provoke the /osrg/ spergs. Forgive me father.
I don't read erratas and just play with what base rules I have.
>>98063724You should. Would save loads of time.Or at the very least get an unsorted folder.Mine is getting uncomfortably big.
>regretEver trying D&D 5e.
I have never played a single tabletop RPG in my life yet I have contributed probably thousands of posts in the DnD 3.5e and 5e generals, along with Pathfinder, 40k, WoD, OSR, and occasionally card game threads (which I also do not play). I operate by having a hazy LLM-tier understanding of these spaces and making vague engagement bait because it brings me a sick sense of satisfaction. At times I have gotten upwards of ten (You)s by posing as an obnoxious newfag or a POS oldfag. In my experience 5e is by far the easiest space to lie about ‘my games’ in, followed by 40k since people mostly discuss fluff there. OSR is easy too since I can paraphrase module reviews from tenfootpole or PrinceOfDusk while whining in a way that guarantees replies. I am unrepentant and will do it again soon. After saying all this I truly believe that the anti-2e schizo is even more mentally unwell than I am.
this epstein-run website should have been shut down over a decade ago and if I had to painfully kill every single one of you where your kids can find you, I wouldsage
>>98062918I have a solo hexcrawl game currently going on and the entire setting is furry and the entire party is all male. We can make amends together, anon.
I'm asexual but play with mostly straight men and I can't wait to put in all kinds of tempting women for them, because I know it'll just fuck their shit up. I've only gotten to do it once before years ago when I was a teenager, but I've been itching to do it again. I know one player is particularly weak to it, I introduced picrel to the group and the first thing he did was approach and ask if she had a boyfriend (even though his character was already in a relationship). I'm planning to incorporate a woman who was kidnapped by goblins, who they'll find topless, exhausted, and injured. She's also a runecarver and capable of enchanting their weapons, but will only do so on the condition that aforementioned player has sex with her.
I started a session 0 with a few friends in march only to never follow up on it. It wasn't involved in any scheduling conflicts, I just never asked that friend group about it since.

>>98066148Yeah.My problem is that I don’t properly change for the better.I think I needed to see your post.
>>98065838Thought I was straight for a long time and learned the flaccid way I wasn't, barely felt a wiggle since. The only gratification I get from it is a sick sense of knowing I've successfully preyed on their weaknesses to their detriment.
I never read LotR I did read the Hobbit though
>>98065070I genuinely agree with you and I deserve it because I keep coming here and giving the epstein rape victim mods traffic
>>98064995>followed by 40k since people mostly discuss fluff thereAnd the miniatures. I'm gonna use this as a jumping off point for something I've been thinking about The shizo who hates every discussion that's worldbuilding and fantasy/fiction related is probably the same guy who spams "post your minis", which I find extremely ironic. Because miniatures are not the game themselves, and many many many people have admitted they care more about collecting and painting and building the minis than the actual game itself. In fact many of them think the games suck. And yet I wouldn't say it's off topic, because it's as much a big part of the tabletop gaming hobby as fantasy and worldbuilding is
>>98062918I love Ironclaw
I rarely ever paint but keep buying minis cuz I plan on painting them but my adhd is so severe that I can never get around to finishing anything
>>98066330Same
>>98066361I felt that.Got a printer but even assembling has become backlog because I realized how big my backlog is.
>>98062244Perhaps more related to this thread >>97997086but I draw fetish art of some of my player’s characters for my own private use. Never would I ever post the art anywhere on the internet because I believe I have a responsibility not to proliferate pornography (especially fetish art) as much as possible because of how damaging it is. At the same time, I can’t help but draw some of the player characters this way or imagine them in these situations. While it may bring some momentary pleasure, part of me knows that it is vile and degenerate. I recognize the most real harm this sin does to anyone is to myself my own spirit.
I have a bunch of models for a game I haven't played in over a decade. I have no desire to display them and they are not much to look at anyway because they were sort of crude to begin with and are badly painted if I at all. They are effectively obsolete because of edition changes and the game is niche so I doubt anyone would buy them off me. They are probably not completely worthless but it's not that much in the grand scheme of things considering how much effort would be to move them and I don't really need the money. I'm mostly keeping them because while I'm not that attached to them it would feel like wrong to throw away a piece of "art". At least it takes relatively little space.
>>98066205NTA but armchair psychology says you're most likely gay, possibly trans, and until you resolve whatever issue you have will remain impotent. Asexuals do not leverage sexuality for their own pleasure, if they did they wouldn't be asexual.
>>98066458Like any mental thing, there's a spectrum to it y'know. I don't feel sexual arousal, desire, pleasure, or anything like that, so I'm comfortable labelling myself as such. Are you gonna say I also can't be asexual if I'm comfortable with nudity or the thought of other people having sex? It's not like I was planning to ERP with the nigga, I already told everybody I wasn't gonna roleplay any of that stuff back in session 0.
>>98066492>I don’t make the rulesBeen a while since I saw that phrase.Did it die off because of a clever come back repeated over and over?
>>98066205>serious answer I should have made my post more obvious in being a parody of online groomers.I’m sorry about that.
>>98062244I keep starting projects and never finishing them. In 20 years i don't think I've ever actually finished a project. I love building stuff, I just dont get any kind of enjoyment from painting. Everything I paint I hate how it looks. Even when I know it looks good and that I should be happy with it, I hate it.
>>98066458Everyone on this site is gay and possibly trans
>>98062244I told a guy from here that had been unable to get into a game from here that I would put together a game he could participate in then promptly got too caught in the weeds putting things together and wound up ghosting him. Felt bad about that ever since
>>98066728It feels like there were way more femboys back in the day
>>98066503No idea.>>98066510Haha no worries bro im trans btw
>>98062244As a forever GM, I hate my players: they are too lazy, cringe and barely put any effort into the game (and I'm not even talking about reading a couple of paragraphs before starting a new system, oh no, I'm talking about not being able to leave their phones alone for more than two minutes).Years of playing have left them with some creativity and outside of the box thinking tho, which makes games interesting, but not by that much (it's like they all have certain aspects of a great player, but distributed between 4 different nerds). Not saying that I am a prodigy or whatever (I recognise I am probably average as hell in running games) but at least I put the time and effort (I'm just asking for them to put a fraction of that to make the experience more fun and interesting for all of us).I wish I had the will to meet other people to be able to experience how different sessions can be, but I am so afraid of leaving my comfort zone, so I always end up going with the same group.
>>98062244I start games without having read the rule book and then the game eventually dies because I'm overwhelmed. Even when I do read the system I'm real bad about preparing for the next session so the quality of the game quickly nose dives. I would probably be better off just running quests on /qst/ than running a game.
>>98062244I’m as the kids would say brainrotted so badly that I can’t sit down to ready rulebooks.Anybody else had this issue?Need advice on how to fix this.Every time I sit down to read I lose focus like you wouldn’t believe.
>>98066718put the things you make to useit's amazing how much appreciation a thing gains once it starts serving a purposethat's how it is for me and my DIY stuff - even if I thought it turned out kind of meh, as soon as I start using it I become proud of it

>>98062244>keep heaping my grey pile of shameused to get models and paint them as a form of recreational activity back in the day. Somehow stopped. I waste money on figs whose boxes I don't even open now. >can't for the life of me try and get friends together to play TTRPGsused play a lot during HS, then stopped, then get back to it again and then the party fell apart (lover's quarrel, and then one dude died, one had to move out of country, I got depressed, shit like that). Been meaning to try and get some people together again, but covid and the similar crap ruined it, I can't stand online play (tried many times), but getting people to get together is a chore.>hate gnome/goblin playersno real reason, I just hate the "quirky fun race" in every game and iteration because I think it's dumb. No idea why this is, and it's never against the player.
>>98067506Treat it like you're studying.Schedule time for it. Learn bits at a time rather than vaguely trying to memorise a book. Pick a specific section to learn, read it, and make notes. Use the rules in examples where possible, like making characters and running combats between them.Avoid distractions like /tg/ and the rest of the internet. Don't look up things that catch your attention, make a note to look them up later.
>>98062244Even though I boast about superiority of 3.5e, I despise half of the mechanicsAlso I lied about roll results a couple of times to make the game fun for my table.
I got a good excuse for being nogames, every lgs of mine closed down years ago
I tend to make my characters not be overtly reliant on equipment so they always have points (or whatever the system uses) spent on martial arts/unarmed combat/CQC/ etc
I know one player cheats, though I have no proof and I'm not going to accuse him.
>>98062244I once ran a 6 session HtR game where the game idea was that it was a group of hunters coming together and investigating a string of murders, and one of the 4 players at the table would secretly actually be the local Regent, who's responsible. It was a whodunnit kind of game where during every downtime, each player could do a set range of things (investigate a PC or NPC, prep a house or vehicle, make a weapon or traffic one in etc), but each time some new person in the city would get murdered. Not randoms either. Important people. Touchstones. Notables. A couple PC's actually got mauled half to death during some of their downtime activities (sneaking out at night to try investigate dangerous side of town by themselves). The group I was GM'ing for had never played a game explicitly encouraging pvp or anything less than total party cohesion before. In fact, I think they'd all only ever played DnD.So by session 4, things got a bit tense, and people were insisting the Regent player out himself OOC so people could 'coordinate and plan what would happen'.Read: shouting at each other "I'm not the Regent! I swear I'm not!" Mixed with a bunch of profanity, twisting the downtime info into logics to argue it's really XYZ, and desperately trying to make all the conflicting accounts match up, while being aware that some of them must be fakes. They're shouting at each other, at me, getting really worked up about not being the Regent, and whoever's been lying about it the whole time, and I'm pretty sure I've done permanent damage to this friendgroup.None of the players are the local Regent. And outside of mentioning the game concept at the start, I've never actually stated any of them to be the Regent. Though using tone of voice, I've heavily implied that one of them is the Regent. Now it's coming up on session 6, where I'm planning to have them all assault a vampire biker gang who're believed to 'rule' the region.
>>98065697If you're looking for snark they're not many here that are that old. The stuff I bought during the Reagan era is painted and finished. I have unfinished stuff from the Clinton era. This is more due to the game losing popularity at the LGS and us moving on to another game.
>>98064299It's not anti consumer you're just not the target market for that type of consumption.
>>98062244I haven't had a game in many years. I'm just here to discuss few settings I like and occasionally shitpost about elf titties and whatnot
>>98067611Thanks anon, i'm going to try this.
>>98062511Been working on mine for 16 years and I must've rebooted it like 3 times. Still don't keep notes, it's all splayed across 16 years worth of 3.5/13th Age/The One Ring/5e/Pathfinder sessions.
>>98065070Anon assumes I have kids.
>>98069276Got like 5 Continents filled with kingdoms and countries. As well as different races of men, elves, dwarves, ghomes, orcs, goblins, beastfolk, etc. Though it all half done or in the basic concept stage.
>>98062831>I don't know how these freaks have so much disposable income.Speaking from experience with my 2 friends, they literally live with their parents and instead of putting the money they save on rent into savings or investments, they spend it on trading cards.

>>98068370I'm the poster of >>98062810, I've only played/ran ~5 full D&D sessions ever, most of my exposure to TTRPGs was playing a long-term LARP based on an OD&D spinoff. I was born 10 years too late, since by the time I was in high school, Critical Role and the "fandom fandom" had effectively expelled simulationism from the TTRPG community, and anyone who isn't a fat 30+-year-old just wants to play a JRPG with even less math. In middle school, I played and then ran a large and long-term improv-only RPG (with die rolls but no stats), but the only reason it had so many players was because you didn't need to know any rules. I'm not sure why I keep reading rulebooks and homebrew content for hours near-daily if almost nobody my age wants to play with those mechanics, it must be autism.>>98066148What's the best way to start a simulationist TTRPG group? I know that D&D went from an improv wargame (braunstein) to a detailed adventure game relatively quickly, but everyone involved was a nerd, and nerds have been mongrelized by anti-gatekeeping, so in any sample (even at an elite university) there will likely be more people who call you weird/suspicious just for wanting detailed and realistic mechanics than people who actually want to play your game, especially if it isn't tied to a pre-existing setting and if it isn't a drop-in one-shot but a campaign with commitment and a need for a high number of potentially competing players.
I was helping with a collaborative project... And I only wrote lore, no mechanics.
>>98062831The LGS I used to hang at had the problem that there was a group that would never buy books and used it as a library. So the owner bought a shrink wrap set up to seal books. He had an employee that would buy board games and sometimes decide he did like it after opening it up. He would bring the games to the store, reshrink wrap them, then use the stores price label gun to put a price tag on them. That way he could sell them at convention flea markets/ebay as "new" instead of "opened".>>98072439Apparently there was a local MTG player that was a literal hobo. I heard a conversation asking were he was since he was missing that FNM. "He fucked up and jumped a east bound train. He'll be here next week".
I refuse to get fly on my monk in pf1e. I find it silly when the whole deal is a extraordinary fighter that doesn't have overtly supernatural powers, I instead maxed speed and jumpYou have no idea how mad is the table over that
>>98062621I am always quick to point out that a cringe is a species of fear response.
>>98062244I don't read the rulebook unless I feel I have to, as a GM.I read the character sheet. And I learn how to make a character. That tells me what I need to ask for at what stage, and roughly how most things work.If I'm not sure, I make up a ruling or decide how it'll work on the spot.I'm currently looking at converting a game of Rogue Trader, which I've only played once and never run, into a Battlefleet Gothic type RPG based off of watching Hornblower on youtube.
