Can someone explain how Ork clans work? Are they like Space Marine Chapters, that each has their own cultural gimmick?

>As far I understand, certain units are more likely to belong to a clan (Bikers being Red Sunz, Lootas being Deathskulls, Flash Gitz are Bad Moons, etc.but this is not a hard rule.
pretty much this, the clans tend to have certain predispositions and even some minor differences like bad moons growing teeth faster, but you can find a bit of everything in each klan (there are snakebite meks, they just focus more on reliable and simple tech rather than fancy stuff, etc etc)
>>
>>98062863
you pretty much got it, but there are also tribes/families that work as successor chapters who take inspiration from their original klan, but can also have boyz from every klan, so for example, the big moon tribe is led by a warboss from the bad moon klan, but is full of boyz from different klans like bad moons, deathskulls, and snakebites.
>>
Does admech work if you go really hard on skitarii? I know nothing about admech but I want to field a horde of worthless slaves
>>
>>98062927
nta but if I understood correctly it's a regular sprue that is then "coated" by thin layers of paint. Think of it as "printed paint"
>>
>>98062863
Clans and their behaviors are hard coded into Ork DNA. Goffs will always spawn more Goffs, Deathskullz more Deathskullz, etc. However a Waaagh or a warband can be made up of many different clans.

>As far I understand, certain units are more likely to belong to a clan (Bikers being Red Sunz, Lootas being Deathskulls, Flash Gitz are Bad Moons, etc.but this is not a hard rule.

Correct. Due to the behavior associated with a clan being genetic, different clans have preferences on modes of war that will manifest in what kind of weapons, tactics, and vehicles they use, but it is not an absolute. The same is true for subkulturs like Speed Freeks and Beast Snaggas. Evil Sunz and Snakebites will tend to have more of these, respectively, but they can show up in any clan.

He's just

who lived 12,000 years ago and did an Alexander the Great on steroids before befalling a Greek tragedy and then humanity did the rest both before and after he existed.

What's the point of saying he's some final boss villain responsible for everything bad in the setting who also wasn't capable of doing anything? He's not Morgoth or Sauron and he's definitely not one of the four chaos gods.

>>
>>98062863
Each ork clan go harder into a specific aspect of ork personalities. They are centered around a color that is associated with it.
>Yellow is Wealth
>Red is speed
>Blue is luck
>Black is strength
etc.

So greedy/wealth centered orks will gravitate towards bad moonz, speed freaks to evil sunz, though orks to goff, etc.

And green? Green is best.

that’s the real reason kaptain badrukk was outcast from the bad moons. he was obsessed with carrying around his cancer causing plasma gun, so they gave him the charge of “too rich” instead of “reckless retard”, so he’d take it as a point of pride and leave without any fuss.

I think the custodes being killed by clowns is oldish lore, isn't it? >What's the point of saying he's some final boss villain responsible for everything bad in the setting who also wasn't capable of doing anything?
It's to ruin the Emperor's character and make him look retarded.
It's that fucking simple.

In the past the Emperor was just a man born with immense psychic super powers who had lived amongst humanity in the shadows for thousands of years, and had seen what humanity had managed to do and then saw all of it crash and burn and not for any fault of our own. And he had to get his hands dirty and do horrible things to save humanity.

Now he is some cheat and a tyrant whose entire plan is just vaguely "something", because the writers have basically turned the Emperor into a schizo plot device who had contradictatory plans within plans within plans.
And on top of this there's also the implications that the Emperor is in reality a fucked up evil god of humanity because of the whole Dark King dogshit that was introduced in End and the Death. Aka, humanity has created their own Slaanesh situation.

And GW entirely retconned the entire Terminus Decree to be something where the Grey Knights SOMEHOW need to keep/put the Emperor back on the Throne. Even though if he ever gets up from that chair.
Even that makes zero fucking sense, since whatever is rising from that Throne, is going to be full GOD and the Emperor still would have his CUSTODES who are both genetically and spiritually INCAPABLE encoded to be 100% loyal to HIM and HIM only and cannot go against the Emperor's will and would follow him no matter what he has become.

And this is just the natural and logical end point of any long running IP, because the people who originally created the IP, are no longer working at the company, meaning the entire vision and basic themes are going to be lost. And last year, Jes finally retired, meaning it is only going to get worse from here.
>>
>>98063026
This looks like shit too.
>>
>>98062998
>um actually he's not very strong
No he's very strong. Nobody is refusing that. Horus needed all four cgs to have a shot at him.
>um actually he's not humanity's last best hope, he killed everyone better than him
Yes
>um actually all his powers are stolen from the warp
Kind of he's a warp gestalt. A combination of souls glued together. The cgs are just bigger ones
>um actually his sons aren't even his, just look at vulkan and khan
Depends on your definition of "his" he's their creator, but he didn't raise them and he's not their biological dad as they weren't made in that way....so actually no he's not their father.
>um actually he's if hitler, stalin and thatcher had a baby
In what way?
>um actually he's the reason it's shit to live on any imperial world and you die at 22 from the smog produced at the wheat factory and get turned into soilent green, everywhere's an extraction economy for terra and his webway which failed btw like all IRL attempts at creating a utopia, a dystopia, just look at ultramar if you want to see a real utopia made by someone who cares
Yes, but guilliman is a fag with plot armor.

>um actually the eldar, necrons, orks, tyranids and t'au are fighting defensive wars and 99% of battles are against imperials he made go traitor by being a shitty person

Eldar and necrons yes, orks Tau and nids no. 99% of the battles are just against former imperials he refused to negotiate with because he's a rigid self righteous asshole who never compromises on anything unless there's a bigger gun right in his face. Then he has to use his words

I can see it now.
Big E rises up with (un)holy power. This tears through the Custodes and turn them into his Literal Angels with Gabriella at the head (except for a few named characters who reject him, led by a femstode called Lucy).
The Gay Knights enact the Terminus Decree and besiege the Imperial Palace the only way that's possible: by smashing Titan into it. Inquisitor Blackus leads them on their quest with Her steely gaze.
They miss the throneroom, because a Gay Knight Scout had second thoughts and misaligned the rocket thruster "Maybe he really is an amazing god who has the best intentions?" BLAM goes Blackus's Twin-Linked Heavy Bolt Pistol in response. Now they have to fight through ~5 rooms of golden angels to get to it. Trazyn leans out from his pocket dimension and picks up discarded bolt casings and slithers of smashed statues, declaring "Ahh, another for the collection!"
They then approach him, in all his Despicable Maleness, and Shout him back onto his throne with the one thing that hurts him, an incantation that speaks all of his Failures, which takes four whole days to complete. As he cowers before Blackus, She locks him to the throne and turns to Guilliman who personally thanks her for what she's done for the Imperium. She laments, "A shame no-one can ever know what happened here." before winking at the camera as you close the first book of the new series, the Emperor Heresy.

>King in Yellow
The Alizebeth Bequin trilogy is put on hold as Abnett is called in to write this new best selling series. Valdor doesn't show up.
>Abaddon
When Lucy is cast out of heave- the palace, she is flung into the warp.
She fights and travels for days, weeks, years. It's hard to tell. But she's Really Cool.
She starts to starve and her host of femstodes have to eat one another to survive, but the warp is strange, so it's not at all clear if they did or didn't or if those they consumed got back up or if they're replaced with daemons pretending to be them. We'll wait for the tabletop minis to decide.
Abaddon offers her an apple and upon her first bite she realises the Truth. Big E was always a sham! A con artist! His genetic material isn't even in any of the Custodes! They were always perfect. That's why he turned them, corrupted them, into being his protectors, his slaves.
She then fights with Abaddon for several days for some reason and all Five of the Chaos Gods (including the forge) watch with baited breath as to which would succeed and become their new champion.
This happens over the span of two books and it looks like she was going to win at the end of the first but then twitter got really mad and on the very first page of the next book some of the moments in the fight got retconned and Abaddon wins by stabbing her in the gut or something with Drach'nyen. Some other readers you know say it was really underhanded but you thought it was written kinda hastily.
The rest of the second book reads like she won as she goes on some kind of spirit journey under the guidance of all the Chaos Gods and comes out the other end with a printed advert of her new mini. When looking at her stats she's not the same as Abaddon but nearly identical. You're not sure if 13th edition rules make her stronger than him but she's certainly the front page mini on the webstore for 6 months straight. Fans argue she was never going to replace him but that they wish she did.
>>
>>98063338
Even if it's pandering it's completely inocuous. As is a new IG vehicle, mind you.

My issue with the new guard shit is just GW pulling the usual "it always existed, you just didn't see it." which is immensly lazy writing. Same goes for the female custodes retcon.
I don't mind the new guard vehicles or femstodes existing, they are fine, but using the whole "they always existed, end of story" excuse as to where any of the new shit came from and never actually explaining anything or giving background is just kinda lame. And it really just reeks of:
>"stop asking questions and buy our product, goy"
Also it just cheapens the setting too in a way, since previously lot of Imperium's technology came from STCs.
But then just pulling out random shit that has zero connection to STCs seemingly feels weird.
Like why not just add in couple of sentences about the STC patterns used to make the Centaur and Hippogriff? Not like it'd make them worse.

NTA but yeah, 4th is comfy. Part of it is the compatibility between 3e, 3.5e, 4e and 5e. People like it for different reasons but the mechanics in the 4e CRB strike a balance between complexity and playability that i like. A reasonable amount of USRs and no true LOS makes a big difference, unit profiles in codexes are distinct without having multiplied endlessly like in 5th-7th, VPs is a better system than the current objective monkeying or the old drawing of secondary cards from 7th and 8th.

There's some changes I do actually like from newer editions. Running is a good addition, changing BS to being a flat X+ roll is sensible (but not the WS changes). You can break it if you're a faggot, like all tabletop wargames, but 3e/4e is comfy

Orks leave spores, which grow into new orks, so the orks of a certain location are likely to have been spawned by spores from a common ancestor, and that one in turn will be more closely related to nearer orks than to more isolated groups of orks.
Now, coupled with some measures of genetic drift, natural selection, and potentially some more esoteric things, this gives different "families" of orks slightly different characteristics, which may come out as physical and/or as behavioural, for example the klan of the bad moons is renown for having families of orks who grow particularly large sets of tusks, and do so at a faster rate compared to other orks, while the klan of the deathskulls are known for having a lot of boys with a natural knack for looting, scavenging and stealing, although when it comes to behavioural tendencies it's hard to say where exactly the border between nature and nurture is (note: I'm calling it nurture and not culture because in orks terms, kulturs are a slightly different thing, we'll get to that).

Generally speaking, an ork klan arises out of one particular familiar group, or group of families, more or less a haplogroup, that are somewhat closely related; bad moon are again the example to bring, BUT klans can also grow to eventually scatter all over the place and/or start inglobating individuals from other groups or whole other groups altogether, meaning you may have many numerous different separate groups of orks across the galaxy belonging to the same klan, either genealogically or just nominally if they belong to such inglobated groups; but if the bad moons manage to be renown for such a physical peculiarity still, then it must mean at least some klans "keep it in the family", or have really good PR.
>>
>>98063349
>But then just pulling out random shit that has zero connection to STCs seemingly feels weird.
Reminds me of Darktide adding a new story about their OC donought steal steel having a secret to making it correctly and the manufactory world was just doing it wrong because they forgot how and it's up to the Rejects and an OC to figure it out for them.
Nothing new in 40K has felt very deserved in a while, even in the tertiary materials. Though they do share writers so maybe that's why.

>>98063427
>WAAAAAAAAAAAGH
>>
>>98063507
Within each and every grouping of orks there are also individuals who have very specific instincts or predispositions, these are orks that will generally flock to one of the ork Kulturs and oddboys (note: oddboys are a different thing from weyrdboys, oddboys is stuff like meks and doks, who are born with ingrained know-how over some things, but also just very weirdly behaving orks); there are ork kulturs about all sorts of things, some of the most famous ones are the kultur of kommandos, the kult of speed, and the beast snaggas, and people may be drawn to think that all kommandos are blood axes, all kults of speed are from the evil suns, and all beast snaggas are snakebites, but that's far from the truth; you can have orks feeling the calling to a certain kultur from any group of orks, orks who like going fast popping up amongst the deathskulls, orks who like hunting big game an old fashioned way in the blood axes, and taktikool aficionados born in the bad moons banding together there without anything actual contact from other groups of similar kulturs or the klans with particular predispositions to specialise or feature one kultur or another way way more

Finally we reach the War, or more commonly called the WAAARGH!!! which is any armed force with a modicum of momentum in its warpath growing around a charismatic leader, that leader will belong to a particular klan and that klan will often be the heart of the waaagh, but the waaagh is an event that attracts or pushes orks from many different klans to band together in large armies of greenskins.
Ideally a tabletop army will be representing a fraction of a waaagh, but most collectors still prefer uniformity in their orks and treat klans as these monolithic structures like space marine chapters are, but they ain't, because while they have their own peculiarities and origins, there is a constant back and forth of klans eating one another or clashing over the control of ork populations to add to their numbers

I hate new minis. I want my MINIATURE soldiers to look like soldiers on the field. Every time and everywhere I put the mini down the only thing that should look out of place is the base.

>>
>>98063662
It's a brutal rokk or a kunnin' stone, ya git.
>>
>>98063574
In this case I think so, the vision for the model is for it to be jumping as if it hit a ramp, probably to evoke his famous achievement of felling a titan by jumping into its cockpit with the bike.
If it didn't have the rocks it wouldn't have a ramp and the jumping pose would look way less natural.
Other alternatives were keeping the model solidly on the ground, but that hardly makes it look that much more special than the other bikers, it would feel overshadowed by the wartrike, assuming that's larger.
Posing it doing a wheelie would have been the obvious choice, also because it parallels warlords with rampant steeds, but it could be said in the case of a bike it seems like it gives the bike more attention than the biker, while this one needs to have emphasis on his weapon.

Last option would have been the akira pose, but think for a moment about the model placed on the table next to the other ork bikers: if it faces the enemy then it means he just drifted AWAY from them and towards the boys he's leading, while at any given point of a game the models are going to be moving forward.

This is probably the one advantage the sisters of battle got, oh sure they will get their cunts gaped by a single custodian, but a single sister hearing a Custodian say some shit about ''the emperor is not a god, he said so'' and she'd treat it as some PRIME heresy (despite the obvious contradictions) and through a game of telephone and heavy amounts of gossip, SoB's have a crashout reason to fight the phallic banana men.
Then again, the one and only time SoB's ever interacted with the custodes was a single custodian escorting the then matriarch leader of the SoB's to visit the Big E and boom, no more age of apostacy. That can and would happen again.

Neither the emperor or the custodians are wholly-benevolent, omniscient or omnipotent.
The emperor's will may mandate unspeakably merciless acts in the name of his needs and plans trumping the innocents, the custodians may be acting on fragmentary information, assuming they can actually tell without fail what the emperor is communicating, which is not a given, or they may be wholesale jumping to harsh decisions on their own.

Nah. Guard genrals are just men, and SM Captains are literally hypnotized into being unrelenting.
Both are fallible and stubborn: someone IS wrong in there, and might shall make right.

My problem with custodes is that the fluff does paint them as having the best information and understanding possible. Even if they themselves aren't subject to the needs of normal humans they do understand them.
As for might makes right, it feels weird to defeat custodians.

Maybe custodes are working on based on what the Emperor has "told" them, but they don't have the full picture or can't fully understand what the Emperor is asking them to do.

So when the custodes *try* to do something they just bulldoze toward a "solution" even if that might not even be what the Emperor wants.
I think making the custodes infallible is a dis-service to them as a faction. They are better when they are fallible, ie. can make mistakes, even if those mistakes might be because they are trying to do the good thing and do what the Emperor asked of them.

The problem with tactical rocks is that they should not be there in the first place because it means extra effort to plan and modify and make a replacement for the tactical rock for the models to be in an environment that doesn’t commonly have outdoor rocks everywhere.
It’s more time setting things up to get to the fun part of painting.

Models that just stand on the flat base are better for this reason.

Either paint it as Bike/Rider/Handlebar and be very careful squeezing the rider into the seat, or paint it as bike body+rider/handlebar/side "wheels".

Also, you'll definitely want to leave the hoverpads off because you need to glue one to its tactical rock and then glue that to the bike afterwards. If you try to glue the bike to the tactical rock as one whole piece the model will droop.

In Darktide the real Moebian Steel recipe was actually fully lost for a while. For like thousands of years.

The story unfolds in that Swagger (it's the guy's name just go with it), found a way/directions to one of the very very old and ancient manufactorums that USED TO manufacture true Moebian Steel. Swagger then contacted the Inquisition warband to show and tell them about the foundryplex.
The 4 player characters then get sent to Clandestium Gloriana to both scout it out but also to start up the facility, so they can figure out the recipe to make true Moebian Steel again. And they have figured it out, they can make the original Moebian Steel again.

Both Hadron and Kay-Ex are currently working in the Smelter Complex 17-36 trying to retrofit and figure out how to modify the foundry so they can start making true Moebian Steel there, instead of having to just relay on the Clandestium Gloriana foundryplex.
And that is where the Moebian Steel plotline is currently standing at.

Many people have speculated that we might get more about the Moebian Steel stuff once Fatshark adds Red Tier weapons to the game. Basically have speculated that Moebian Steel might become something that us the players can use a material to upgrade our equipment in the game.

The old upgrades are so good, especially because they are made so you can buy multiple of them and not be left with bits you don't really want again. GW nows like to cram everything into a single upgrade rather than 2 or three.

So many possible optional assemblies like weapons or heads etc. have been lost in favor of the tactical rock that it is unreal.

The question is which one of these are genuinely legit, and how often they're actually legit.

Hear me out: Imagine a standalone video game set right in the middle of M35 (around the mid-35th Millennium). Because of the time period, the game could feature an official, canon First Founding Legion or an established canon successor chapter, but with a completely original cast of Space Marines. No tripping over modern 40k lore or Heresy-era named characters—just a totally blank slate for the squad and the campaign, while still using a famous, existing chapter.

Which official chapter would make the best foundation for a game like that?

Personally, I’m leaning heavily toward the White Scars. Think high-speed, fast-attack tactical gameplay—blitzing across massive maps, mounted combat, hit-and-run strikes, and just absolute high-speed violence.

What canon chapter would you pick for a mid-millennium campaign, and what would the gameplay loop look like?

Yeah and 100 gorillion other things evolved on this same planet that are nothing like crabs, convergent evolution is a meme. It happens but it's not really frequent at all. The idea that it would apply to alien races growing on different planets is fucking retarded.

Or at the very least slow down the constantly disappearing izzat because of spergs?

What are the votann’s relations with the Tau?
Quite frankly I wonder how chaos legions view tau.
If I was a writer I’d have big names like Abby ignore the tau as anything that forces the imperium to divert manpower as machines away from the legion is a good thing.
But I’m not sure if the names chaos space marines are pragmatic or comically evil or both.

It varies depending on the Kin faction.
Generally, they have semi-cordial relationships
-Trade partners who exchange technologies and material goods.
-Allies through merc contracts or mutual benefit.

Though relationships soured in the Chalnath Expanse as the Leagues attacked the T'au-held worlds.

The T'au believe that the Kin they encountered are the last of their kind after being nommed by Tyranids. The Kin, for some reason, don't clear this up to them.

>Quite frankly I wonder how chaos legions view tau.
Word Bearers hate them for being secular.
The Death Guard regularly clash with the T'au since they are now neighbours. The Death Guard seek to corrupt the ordered and clen worlds of the T'au Empire as an offering to Nurgle.

ADB wrote his desire to write a meeting between Abaddon and the T'au. He said that Abaddon would have recognised in the T'au something ironic, how they are a mirror copy of the Great Crusade.

I am fine with Eldar looking human-like but I always prefer them to be depicted just a little too uncanny valley for comfort, as the lore intends them to be. Artists routinely either make them attractive humans with pointed ears or just ugly and bizarre. They are ultimately Warhammer fantasy elves transplanted into a sci-fi setting, and Warhammer fantasy elves are basically just follow the Tolkien template. It is what it is.

The goatslopper or goteslopper is a guy known for starting shit in several of the warhammer generals. Nothing special honestly just kind of a prick.
His name derives from an instance where he was shitting on some new anon here for not cleaning his mouldlines well, he then gets asked to post his own models, and predictably they're covered head to toe in the worst mouldlines you've ever seen. Tried to play it off by pretending they were "imperfections of the camera", funny stuff. I'm sure someone has the screencaps. Anyway they were beastmen models, hence the gote.

Not as sad as the anons who got wrecked by the metal kommando poster.
This has been a good time on the toilet for me.

TQ about how posting a box totally counts as posting painted models

>fag who doesn't post models and demands others post their models lacks enough object permanence recognition to correlate a consistent model and choice of improvised lightbox material to photos from another poster who is very active in the threads

I guess the fear of being doxxed and stalked if you are called out to post models is unfounded, this dude could walk by you every day and never pick you out of a lineup.

this is a fresh cope, almost as embarrassing as the retard posting a box thinking that counts
and the necronfag didn't demand models, the orkfag started it and crashed out when reminded that he needed to post a timestamped model when manking demands
>>
>>98065944
I have absolutely no skin in this game as it was my first reply in the chain but if you are going to make model posting demands, then move goalposts when an anon not only delivers but does so as an identifiable and a consistent poster in the general, you deserve to get clowned on (and were). Good night, idiot.
>>
>>98065965
the orkfag made the first demand, then tried to get an out as soon as he found out it's thread etiquette to post models with timestamp if you're gonna pull that card so people know you're not just a shitstirrer who'd obsess over you after you obliged the request
the necronfag obliged it after he posted his halfpainted ork, the other orkfag thought posting a box of unpainted unassembled pewter counted as modelposting and crashed out when he immediately got mocked
(you) are a retard

The sanghelli and the covenant in general got more in common with the imperium than T'au or Eldar

Those are both still in the game, technically.

If we go by models rather than rules, than Blood Angels Tactical Squad was a blip.
