Imperial guard are the backbone of 40K, y'all just don't like to admit it
>>98118600They are but marine money pays the bills to keep gw alive so I can freeload on stls and pirated rules.
Another progress shot. The top of the passenger cabin and rear fin is shaped out, the gaps will be covered by some armor detailing that overlaps the lower portion of the build. It's nice to see the general chinook shape finally visible, and I think I have a good option for the turbines. What's your current project?
Cia-Cia-Ciaphas Cain! Hero of the Imperium!
>>98118603That's true and not mutually exclusive with my point. My beef is with the xenosfags who cry about how boring IG is and think that they could be removed from the setting, that's just dumb. Gotta have your meat and veg before dessert, kids

I'm not saying guard should be squatted, but I am saying if Johnny Lasgun never existed in the game a lot of the problems 40k has and has had wouldn't be around.

>>98118671I always will refuse to use Drukhari.
>>98118650Yes, with AoS and the great rift shenanigans in 40K GW made a move to change all faction names to more unique/copyrightable. They weren't typically new terms, a lot already existed in lore but GW/fans used more simple names instead, ie. "drukhari" was the in universe scientific term, but we just called them "dark eldar" because that was simplerTLDR astra militarum = imperial guard, and a bunch of us old grogs refuse to change
>>98118671Orks changing to Orruks is so monumentally stupid they didn't even try to pull that on on 40k like they did AoS.
>>98118681Honestly that's a good read, guard players consistently complain about lack of model releases and being a background faction, but they're one of the most consistently updated factions today, but because it's not space marine level of support it's not enough.

>>98118686Drukhari is probably one of the least offensive name changes because it has precedent in Druchii and Dark Eldar was a really dumb name to begin with.

>>98118722Yes, because James before anything, leads a business and you can't suggest him to waste the amount of logistic effort and material expenses related to a faction release in factions that will not justify such amount of wasted resources.
Guard DESERVES every regiment, fags, you can have Red, Blue, Green, Black, Cultist Marines but is too much to ask for Steel Legion, Vostroyans or Catachads that have specific features? Fuck off.
>>98118725>Guardfags want ALL factions to get the same love and attention as mahreensI have never once seen a guardfag express this sentiment. It's usually "marines should be chaos only so we can be the heroes and xenos should be non-playable NPCs because 40k is about the battle for humanity's soul."
>>98118734He will now pretend like it wasn't him like that makes it untrue>>98118742>we deserve all of this>we'll never buy any of it but we DESERVE itguardfags really do deserve nothing but a noose
>>98118722>>98118735James prints 20 something AoS factions that all make less money than the least popular 40k faction. They can choose to diversify however they want, they just prefer to waste their mad money on trying to keep a fantasy wargame game represented in their roster.

>>98118766that's not a guardfag
>>98118671These names are still used in universe and games though, right? I mean most of these are just 'official' in lore names but games like Rogue Trader/Dark Heresy use these old names occasionally.
>>98118754If all marines ever got was ultras and BA and chaos was just undivided and khorne the tears would be endless. Don't kid yourself
>>98118773The difference is marines matter more and sell 50x the amount of guard so the massive amount of support makes sense for them, unlike your delusions for guard
The other day some people were asking about the carry cases with trays, and I absolutely love mine. I highly recommend them. 3k points of sisters fit fine, and I have a second one that holds about 2k worth of guard. Magnetize the bases and they don't wobble around, and you can have clusters of stuff that you'll use or not on each tray so you don't have to take every tray out or even pack every tray.I used to use the citadel foam cases and they were fine but they had some minor annoyances like the weight of the rest of the army was still resting on the bottom layer of foam even if it was cushioned, and several times I had to cut the foam make stuff fit, and other minor things. the magnetized cases are an all around improvement.
>>98118767Both games can have shit models anon.Maybe most is an overstatement. Lumineth look pretty good except for the cow stuff, and Deathrattle looks pretty good. So do Skaven, StD (except for darkoath), and Ironjaws. DoK is ok.The god stuff looks better than 40k. So the only stinkers are sea elves, wood elves, dwarves, and humans.
>>98118776And no, if they got equal support they would not magically start selling better, they got nearly as many model releases as vanilla marines this edition got and they're still unpopular because guardfaggotry is inherently secondary bait

>>98118650They forgot to tell you the best part, GW started doing this just because they tried to copyright strike and wallet rape some children's book author for using the term "space marine" in her title. Only to get slapped in the face after being told that they didn't invent space marines and the term and concept are nearly a century old.Their in-universe nomenclature, Adeptus Astartes, has always existed just like other titles, but GW uses it more these day in order to hold the copyright even tighter.

(Look up "economies of scale").Plus GW also pays rules teams to balance models (badly) for their entire lifespan, which is factored into your plastic cost.So their base operating cost is probably pretty high taking all this into account, much more than a Chinese factory paying their workers pennies and cranking out millions of toy plastic army men that can be sold at every single department store around the world. With all of that said, they also definitely making sick profits on top of it.If you think a model is unfairly priced or you can't afford it, your best options are:> buying third party models and doing a counts-as. This won't fly in GW tournaments but nobody else cares>Buying other GW models and kitbashing. I used cheaper Horus Heresy models to convert into Assault Intercessors>Buying secondhand models online/at pawn stores and stripping the paint>Buying knockoff 3D prints

After killing the Commissar, the regiment set to fullfil his final command.Cultist elements were destroyed, but the purge order did not exclude the civilian elements hostage in the spire the regiment had originally been sent to relief. >>98119307Being able to mix armours was a big a big appeal of the older mk's of armour, with the extension of that being the old sprue architecture that kits used to have with the head/torso/leg formula. The biggest complaint I see for primaris, besides being generally boring, is that customising their models is much more tedious, and what used to be a basic kitbash now requires a lot of extensive cutting and posing to get a similar result, which discourages a lot of newer hobbyists which is why many newer players army just look like they're straight out of the box.
>>98119334Correct on all counts.
>>98119334There's also just very little reason to kitbash mkX. The statblocks have been wasted down to what's just available in the box for the most part, no need to try swap in weapons from other kits. No fun armour mixing to be had because all primaris look the same. It's dreary

>>98119007Just because they sell out, doesn't mean the economies of scale are there. As someone who works in industry, here's an illustrative example.Let's say you have 1000 customers for a niche product in a niche hobby. Vostroyans for example. You sell out of Vostroyans. 1000 boxes sold. They're a custom metal product, so you rev up a special division of your factory to produce these, get the moulds out of stock. You pay overtime, you pay the salary for the one guy who knows how to make these, maybe he's on a better salary. You pay someone to design the new box art, send off the designs to the printer, let's say you outlay a couple thousand getting that setup.Your shipping container freight to get this from the UK to the US costs, say, $2000, to get those 1000 boxes out to the customers. Now imagine you run a stock standard little green plastic army men factory in China. You have 100,000 customers worldwide for this very generic product with comparatively higher demand. You have one factory which has been pumping out the same generic green army man moulds for 15 years straight, moulds you copied direct from a competitor. No specialist knowledge required, just get your ultra cheap slave workers to fill the moulds with green plastic and maybe shave the mould lines, break off (badly), box up, send out in the same old packaging that's using pictures ripped from Google Images rather than a paid designer. You can fit 100,000 boxes into the shipping container for the same $2000 outlay. So for a niche hobby with 1000 buyers, production cost can be in the $10,000s; for a widespread toy with 100,000 buyers, your production cost can be in around $5000, *and* you're making more sales, allowing your profit margin to be lower.I'm not fully excusing GW because they definitely shave a lot of cream off the top, but not all of the expensive cost of 40k minis is greediness.
>>98119456The ROI of GW is 40%. They get a lot of cream

How would you deal with Imperial Agents in a way that is thematic and makes them a proper army in their own right?
>>98119108> Some units can contain models that have different keywords. While this is the case, such a unit is considered to have all of the keywords of all of its models, and so is affected by any rule that applies to units with any of those keywords. Remember that attacks are made against units, not models. So the new version of Experimental Prototype Cadre applies to any unit with a Commander attached to it. So you can have a Starscythe squad attached to a Coldstar Commander equipped with a Thermoneutrionic Projector and all of them with 18" flamers running around. You're just SOL when it comes to getting 16" breacher teams. Also, detachments are only "what bundle of rules do I pick". You don't assign them to units like in 8th and 9th. If I took Brandfast Oathband and the new Sagitaur detachment, the Sagitaurs would have scouts and every unit that disembarked from them would have Sustained Hits.
>>98119655they're not meant to be a proper army in their own rightthey're meant to be an index of units you can add onto one of the 4 actual imperial armies and a way for you to field a mixture of those 4 imperial armies under the agents acting as keystone
>>98119655I wouldn't. I'd just make them easier to ally into other Imperium armies. The other option is to make it into a 2-in-1 codex where you either pick Inquisition or Rogue Trader and they each have their own army rule and (mostly) pull from the same unit roster. Also, all Imperium agents have points listed with whichever army they're allying with instead of a universal points cost that every army uses. Voidsmen-at-Arms are a lot more valuable to Imperial Knights than to Adepta Sororitas,Also, bring back generic inquisitors and give them access to army rules when allied in. Ordo Hereticus characters should get miracle dice if they're in a Sisters army, Ordo Malleus should get Grey Knights rules, Ordo Xenos should get Oath of Moment or be able to give orders like a Commisar.
>>98119201Tortuga Bay has a bunch of Mk6/7/8 in tabards that would be good as a base. It does take a little longer to get them but it's still been way faster than recasts in my experience.
>>98119655Allow them to be up to 25/75 Inquisition/any Imperium codex and they just have crazy detachments then ban them from tourneys
>>98119674Sometimes I think they should have just been given to their respective chamber militant armies (grey knights + malleus, sisters + hereticus, deathwatch + xenos), with upgraded versions of select imperial guard units (representing Inquisitorial stormtroopers) available as part of that Inquisition element

>>98119823you can still make archons and succubuses from them since those kits leave a lot of spare bits but not enough legs to go around. Not having a chud/chudette hang from a venom and raider so I can save 30-40 bucks on a character is a worthy trade off
>>98119172Purple and gold is an extremely common color combination picked by the DE fanbase and you can find hundreds of examples of people trying it different ways. Black is a common tertiary color too. Look up Kabal of the Last Hatred in particular, if you want to see the closest official subfaction scheme people try to copy. As for the relative usefulness of the different battleline units, it fluctuates a lot. Kabalites got a big point bump in the Codex and are a little overpriced for what they do right now, but they used to be the best battleline unit in the index. Whychrs are currently super strong for their price and are buffed by the strongest Detachment in the Codex, spectacle of spite. Weacks are kind of weak and piddly outside of a relatively bad Detachment in covenite coterie, but the Battleshock changes next edition might make them monstrously annoying.
My deldar gf tortures me every night so her soul is safe and then we bang. It's a pretty nice arrangement.
>>98119826Fair enough. You can get some cheap plastic characters without any drip and with some weird jumping poses if you want. But print some crew for your Raiders and don't leave them empty floating husks.

Imagine being Chaos. The Imperium is so bored of fighting you that they fight each other because you're not interesting. It's like being a zombie looking at humans killing each other because you're too boring for a post-apocalyptic villain.
>>98119839>Imperium vs ImperiumThat's not a thing, because even if that happens it will be always imperium vs heretic because who ever loses is the heretic.

>>98119839there was a perfect opportunity with the khornate curse affecting fleet quartus, but the hack chaosfag writer had to make it into a chaoswank instead of an interesting an interesting battlezone>what could have been: the entire fleet is under the effect of the curse and is unable to tell friend from foe, imperial forces fight imperial forces under delusions that they're fighting monsters or traitors or loyalists unwittingly carrying the taint of chaos >what it was instead: lol the entire fleet (except the special snowflakes) became a spiky mutant khorne berserker in the blink of an eye, isn't that cool now lol!
>>98119880They should make a kill team of orks that can be built as either chaos boys or bug boys.
>>98119897An entire delusional crusade screaming their regular dogma for the Emperor and Cadia and cutting down imperial forces and citizens while drenched in blood would be really horrifying and grim.
>>98119897That and also GW should stop pretending that there isn't a good divide to be made between the more dogmatic side of the imperium and the more radical one under guilliman, to create a fertile ground for tensions between imperials instead of the current impression of extraordinary unity and coordination.
>>98119683I like this solution best.

Having a title like Druhkari is good.
>>98120039Bottom right guy is in the top 5 best marine figures ever made. Wish I knew where mine was right now.
>>98120075People naturally gravitate towards the elites of any force. Even the guard fans often really like their storm troopers and kasrkin and grenadiers etc.
>>98119519Anyone who thinks Tau are actually the good guys by modern moral standards are wrongGue'vesa are basically a mirror of Indians during British occupation. You are outside of their system and can't influence it because you are not a member of the occupying race, you are a second class citizen only for extracting wealth from. You can wholly side with the colonizers and wear their colors proudly but you will never be one of them, they will throw a thousand of your lives away for one of their own and if you step out of line they can blast you away with their superior technology and control of your home.So anyone who thinks it would be better to be a Gue'vesa just because they have cool tech and a nice catchphrase is spiritually Indian. And if you think Tau are based for turning those mud people into disposable workers you are an Englishman who still has some spirit left in him
>>98119977Chaos being restricted to humans also makes them far less scary, making them lose out on the cosmic horror angle against the tyranids. Like hell, Genestealer Cults do the whole subversive force of evil better than the Chaos Cults, because those are too focused around the Space Marine shenanigans.
>>98120087>Which gave them some verisimilitude, but made them a pain to refer to. Having a title like Druhkari is good. While I don't share your opinion, if nothing else it's far better than Aeldari which is a comically lazy and cynical rename.
>>98120098That we fully agree on.
>>98120098Aeldari gets me chuckling because I feel certain they picked a word that contains the word "Eldar" on purpose just for SEO reasons

chaos isn't restricted to humans and never has been. there have been chaos corrupted xenos and even machines from the start of 40k.
>>98120087If I recall the Dark Eldar actually used to call themselves the "Eladrith Ynneas" which was their tongue for the forsaken ones or the dark ones in reference to their curse. Dark Eldar was supposed to be a crude High Gothic approximation of that, though the Imperium seldom ever makes a distinction between the groups of Eldar and refers to them all by their racial moniker.
>>98120092What's with the habit of some anons here of posting smut images of the T'au and giving bad takes?Humans and aliens have some influence in the T'au Empire. i like nu-sternguards
>>98120113That term only appears in the Andy Chambers Dark Eldar books and nowhere else.
>>98120108I think people mostly mean on tabletop, though they seldom show up in the lore either outside of 30k. Masters of the Maelstrom might be the first ever official model of a "chaos Xenos" but they're a faction that doesn't fully embrace the dark powers anyway so... Eh.

How do we make 40k models easier / more fun to paint? I've noticed that as time goes on, AoS models are a lot better to paint, even though they somehow seem more detailed than 40k ones these days and I'm not sure why. It's like the AoS team thinks about the hobbyer when creating models and the 40k one doesn't.
One more hour to Adeptus Mechanicus faction focus. What are we expecting?Did we ever get the rules for the one that was played in the Exhibition match on Monday?
>>98120541If you have ever tried to paint 3rd party sculpts and prints it becomes exceedingly obvious how much more GW thinks about the painting experience when designing their models than most people do. Modern 40k models are a lot better than old ones with a few notable exceptions (Voidscarred Corsairs). GW has even started to put suggestions in their assembly guides for subassemblies for ease of painting.
So how near are we to Armageddon? Don't want to buy anything else if it's right around the corner

>>98120541people hate them for this but AoS is allowed to be more flashier with their designsbut i think overall for someone in the middle this just means the ones that hit, hit very well. i love a lot of whats in Underworlds for onefantasy is just allowed to be a lot more flashier and since AoS is a newer setting there's no established design characteristics they need to strictly adhere to 40k's bread and butter are marines and from weapons to armors, nearly everything about that is decided from the start and GW is usually gonna make minis that all the marine factions can use for more sales what they could do to fix this? 1, go more out there with noncodex compliant factions. the original stuff for dark angels and space wolves is pretty cool but really do need a bigger push for distinction2. more shit for chaos, chaos has the potential to be cool, everyone knows this but they'd rather give these factions a single model every edition and forget them 3. more xenos stuff. i don't care if xenos don't sell as much as marines, they certainly sell better than AoS, so what's the problem. a lot of the newer xeno stuff has appeal and ideally xeno stuff should be where they are allowed to be more wild 4. stop treating kill team as a pre-game for 40k. all the model releases are designed to be used later for 40k, its not being treated as a separate game where they do what they think could be cool. it should feel awkward to place something from kill team into 40k. do that or make an underworlds style game tl;dr - 40k's designs are restricted, AoS is not
>>98120226Because they don't know anything about anything
>>98120557>Modern 40k models are a lot better than old ones with a few notable exceptions (Voidscarred Corsairs).Chaos Space Marines go under that exception too. Every time I look at that champion bit with the knife and the chainmail and all of the trinkets and tchotchkes on his belt I groan.
>>98120541AoS has a lot more open poses due to most models either using sword and shield or two hand weapons. 40k the vast majority of infantry carry some kind of rifle across their chest. This will naturally make them harder to paint satisfyingly since you won't be able to paint the belly area if you aren't subassembly painting.
