Leviathan was 170. It should be no more than 190, considering it does not include the big rulebook this time.
>>
I know this is not new, but it happens to me every once in a while and I laugh every time.

I play a few non-marine armies, and I get used to listbuilding and looking through the rulebook for detachments and units and stuff, and there are certain expectations. I have a few detachment choices, and a good mix of units. A few vehicles, a few characters, a few infantry.

Then I'll be looking something up and I'll open the marine books, and I'm overloaded with literally a dozen detachments, plus the ones in the separate bl/wolf/etc books, over a dozen different vehicles, named characters out the ass, a list I have scroll down of every character option with various gear, several iterations of infantry, several battleline, and not to mention several subfactions for the factions that have their own books. It's actually wild how much more marines have of everything, from models to rules to even subfactions. Just one section of their book has more options than my entire army, and that's true multiple times since I play a few.

I don't really have a point, I'm not saying it shouldn't be this way or that I'm upset, it just hits me in the face when I go to look something up and I'm reminded.

Yes, but it will hurt. But then I remember this costs the same for as me going to the flgs and getting 2 combat patrols, but I get all the extra cards, lore book, etc, to make it more worth it. Plus I don't have any Orks so this is a good point to start I suppose.

>Will you pull the trigger on tomorrow's pre-orders?
At 300 bucks? Probably not. The only models I'd want to add to my Dark Angels is the speeder and maybe jump chap. I like the orks but don't need a 4th army. Will probably buy a couple speeders on ebay or locally and call it good. My flgs discord is already advertising for people trying to get the ork half, so marine bits might be cheap. Otherwise I might see about a copy of the rules cause I like physical books to flip through, and put the rest into a combat patrol for TS.

the oldest ork books made a slight separation between the normal orks and all the very special kulturs like snakebites, blood axes and freebooters (and chaos boys and bug boys)
if you're looking for a way to slim the codex, this the way, and the second smaller booklet can also work as more convenient supplement to take ork allies for other factions without having to buy the whole ass ork book
but gw is ass at managing allies and the price of books, so this option can't really be considered
grot revolutionaries warrant a spin off faction just like genecults are for nids
alternatively the last forbidden option is a book for a type of orks that aesthetically wouldn't mix well with the ones currently present, the titan sized krorks might be a bit too much, but some lesser kind of krorkoids would be alright, the one and only issue is how you add them to the setting without them invalidating the normal orks and ghazkull specifically, you would need to make them at odds with each other and not leaders
>>
>>98159757
I just noticed that the alternative rules in the op got removed.
Why?
We always complain about how bad gw’s rules writing are and yet we never give alternative systems that allow for easy reuse of 40k models a shot.
Did anybody care to try them out?
Or do we genuinely enjoy complaining?
>>
>>98160253

Classical wargear and a bit of HH. For example: all Leman Russ profiles rolled back into one, Veterans merged into a single profile with jump packs being an optional upgrade for the whole unit, Termies rolled into a single profile with Assault being a paid trait that unlocks CC weapons etc. I think most of the single-model units like Apothecary, Ancient and Librarian should be paid traits for a basic bitch "hero" that lock and unlock specialised wargear respectively.

I don't think there's a masterplan behind it, they just fund messages in a ton of directions at the same time and just throw shit at the wall and see what happens, wherever they go they just subvert whatever they're doing, it could even be ai-driven at this point, it just picks out lists of shit to throw money at and then collects the data and move on to next thing. I don't think this pic in partiuclar is the best example though, more thinking of the absolute ocean of stuff getting funded and me wondering who is possibly paying for such slop, it doesn't feel niche anymore which then would be more understandable, now there's so much of it

It varies, but you mostly want small units. Fuegan often ran around with 10 Fire Dragons before the nerfs and Dark Reapers want to be in 10s for stratagem efficiency, but that's about it. For the rest, the squad will mostly be ablative wounds and an Exarch and you don't want to overpay too much for the former.
For some clear examples:
>Jain Zar (your picture) gets most of the output from herself and the Executioner Exarch, so extra bodies are wasteful
>Asurmen really wants to fit in a Falcon, so he's strongly discouraged from taking more than 5 friends
>Lhykhis is a buff piece and, as far as damage is concerned, fits the same mould as Jain
>Baharroth is in a more mixed situation, where Hawks are often just utility pieces, but you can go 10 for maximum bombing run potential, although they've eaten enough points raises to make it tricky.

Still, no hard and fast rules at the end of the day. Do whatever your list can spare and that makes sense for your game plan.

>>98160530

The premise for this series seems kind of dumb. I get they want small squadrons for budget and character reasons, but the only way imperial jets could kill eldar craft is if they have mass warfare with like a hundred planes being shot down for every one eldar one.

If the imperial pilot learns to defeat them by leveling up their HFY top gun skills then it's just lame.

Cost is kinda relative, since we talk about miniatures with prices like 30-40€ for a single character, right? If meshy or a similar service charges 15€ per month. Obviously, if you use it once, and then never touch it again it might seem pricy, but you can do dozends of models in that month.
There is also a free trial with most of those services.
Pic related is not mine, and i'm sure the guy who made it has way more experience than just a few youtube tutorials, but the sky is the limit with those "Pic to STL"-ai services.

What is this supposed to mean?
Just look for words like recasts, warhammer, space marines, etc.. Aliexpress literally sends me newsletters with product suggestions.
Also keep in mind you can chat with any seller on that website. They tend to be very helpful (since they want your money), so you can just ask for model x or y, if they do not have it listed in their offerings. Chances are, they can still sell it and send you a pdf catalogue, they just do not list hundreds of different models on the plattform.

tl;dr

That's how it was with me when it came to finding lego star wars minifigures. Typing that resulted in nothing so I had to do shit like type TV8083 which is code word for General Grievous and then similar items I could find other fake minifigure sellers.

I think this is the problem with every "semi-elite" army. They are priced monetarily like an elite army but their points costs are like 30% lower. I wonder if I’ve spent a grand on my 2k space marines? I mean the way to build is to buy something once a month and got 6 5 man units for 20$ a piece, one 62$ dreadnought and scouts and eliminators on eBay. Everything else was from the 9th&10th boxes

>build super fragile army around tricksy gameplay
>point cost accordingly
>nerf tricksy shenanigans
>RAISE points costs of good units
>refuse to lower points of other units to encourage alternative lists/playstyles
I don't understand how the people who "balance" the game are still making decisions like this? Why can't they learn to adjust things incrementally instead of these heavy-handed measures that punish an entire army for a few units' strong performance?

Games Workshop generally know what they're doing when it comes to rules.

The game is generally pretty balanced.

Most editions, most of the changes help the flow of the game.

Many of the changes made in 11th edition improve the visual look of armies that are in the midst of a game when you glance at a game in progress, which is a good thing.

Generally speaking, you can choose any army based on what you think is cool and you can do well in the attached tabletop game that was made for those models.

Generally speaking, given a small leeway for profit, Games Workshop prices reflect the increasing costs of labor since they don't use chinese manufacturing, and increased cost of international shipping.
>>
>>98161727
I mean its pretty clear that GWs game designers are not and have never been good. This is the first time in 25 years they are actually TRYING to balance, they have zero experience and as is typical of the hubris of GW they refuse to learn from or get advice from other live service projects that actually have good mathematical principles to base balancing off of (hint win rate is NOT a good metric)
>>
>>98161759
Someone a couple threads ago commented that if you only take into account players with at least 2 tournaments under their belt and didn't count mirror matches which obviously will skew you towards 50%, then necrons jumpt to almost 70% winrate.
IF that's true (big if) it's a huge indictment on GW.

Ukraine is like imperial guard vs tau, desperate waves of light infantry vs drone spam.

If there's one thing I'm impressed by 40k is, is that they really saw drones as the battle field utility weapons that they ended up being with even every infantry squad carrying some drones with it. People might argue that there is no fpv suicide drone, but i'd argue that, that is what the SMS is, a small drone guided munition that seeks out its targets and can manuever around cover to explode, it just uses rockets instead of quad copters. but that's more for the Itano Circus vibes.
>>
File: HEgAbXnbMAAJKBc.jpg (431 KB, 1933x2082)
431 KB JPG
>>98162132
One good reason for the Tau not to use suicide drones is that their drones are autonomous and semi-sapient so it helps prevent an AI rebellion if you treat them a little nicer tthan that

Also the Ukraine comparison is even funnier when you consider that both wars basically only really had a chance to be decisively won by the aggressor in the early stages (on the blitz to Kiev and in the Damocles Crusade) but they totally botched it
>>
>>98162132
Both sides in Ukraine have gone beyond using drones as just a squad-level support element (which is where current US application seems to have them). They've become an entire new branch of combat arms in their own right, with whole units dedicated to unmanned systems.

Gotta find the bundles second hand to save. I've spent that amount total, but I have like 3 wave serpents, 1 falcon, 2 fire prisms, 24 jet bikes, assortment of wraith units. The jet bikes came from a UK eBay lister that did auctions. Most people found 1 of their 4 jet bike auctions. I let them bid on that one and I got the other 3 for nearly 1/2 off. It's just scouring and looking for legitimate deals. I also acquired most of it from Facebook market place and a particular seller that lists in CAD, but ships from NY. But I have rarely ever spent full price on any GW stuff, sometimes even beating online store discounts.

Do people ever drop Eldar and sell off their old collections/piles of shame like other factions? It is funny, even with low effort shit like canon alt paint schemes the difference is insane.

I was looking finding a Tau sept to paint, there are so few outside of T'au and Vior'la and most are thoughtlessly ugly. Or the number of Eldar Aspect shrines color schemes, these have been around since 2nd edition, there can easily be as many as they want, and there are like 2-3 each with extremely minor differences.

It's more rare for Eldar, but it does happen. A tip for Facebook marketplace, it does radius from location. Choose widest radius and move the location to all major hubs. People are willing to ship, but you won't find them unless searching in their region. I saw a few piles of shame bundles going into 10th before any index information was being posted. I mopped up a tidy lot of most in box or NoS items with a few built/painted. Usually, it's pretty hit or miss. I usually see some eldar items in people's assorted "buy my shame" listings that aren't necessarily Eldar only. They usually charge closer to online store prices minus maybe 5 bucks

>A Smart Missile System is an advanced T'au weapon system that fires clusters of small missiles, each guided by a drone processor unit built into its warhead, intended for use against masses of enemy infantry, particularly those hiding in cover.

>Upon their launch, the "Smart Missiles" will search for targets within sensor range before selecting and engaging one based on criteria previously detailed by the weapon's operator.

>These targets do not have to be within line of sight of the operator, as once the target has been acquired, the missiles are able to effectively home in on it, manoeuvring their thrusters to propel them around any intervening terrain as they hunt the enemy down to an explosive conclusion.

you don't understand, smart missile systems are already automatic drone launchers. except these drones are rocket powered and not powered by quad copters. these drones are probably less intelligent than the gun/shield drones, being smaller and more compact, but they at still smart enough to home in without an operator.

that was my point, that drones are so pervasive that they are employed at all levels including the squad level.

just like how tau have gun drones (i saw a ukie drones armed with a shotgun), shield drones (anti drone, intercept drones), remoras (long range observer drones), sms (fpvs), Marker drones (your basic regular spotter fpv).

Obviously missing somethings like missile pod drones, but we do have bomber drones. or force field/stealth generator drones for obvious reasons.

But as far as drone implementation went they really nailed it as far as future warfare is concerned.

This is the pitfall every single "competitive" focused game falls in to
Developers don't actually have the same meta-knowledge of their own systems as autistic players do they just push random buttons until they hit that magic 50% winrate. But basing everything on winrate like this is kind of like those puzzles where you turn one part of it, then all the the other parts move. Only this puzzle has no solution. They just buff and nerf things in a never-ending waltz and perfect becomes the enemy of good. You will never make everyone happy because casuals and tourneyfags are playing completely different games.

Can't believe I lived to see the day 40k becomes an ASSFAGGOTS
