I’ve honestly never really understood why they say to moisten your dry brush. Every YouTuber has some clickbaity shit like IVE BEEN DRYBRUSHING WRONG THE WHOLE TIME where they talk about having a sponge to touch your brush to but I’ve never had an issue just using one normally. Something to do with preventing chalkiness? But most of the time you’re slathering something over a white drybrush anyway
>>
>>98281121
When I put an atom of water on my drybrush the paint will just come out streaky as hell. Nowadays I have ascended to spongeslopping.
>>
>>98281121
It does help to have a lil extra moisture in the dry brush
I used to use a kitchen sponge
But now i just dip the brush handle in my water cup and stroke it against the back of my hand then dab my drybrush against my hand
Works just as well
No need for a sponge desu

Got him mounted on the base. I kinda think I'm gonna leave this guy's helmet bare, no big plumes or crests, something about the axe and his steel buckler just gives off the vibe that foregoes all of that theatricality. Then again, with the fact he his basically a wall of steel a plume or some kind of crest might add a bit of variety.

They are more or less the same for glaze medium. You get more options with artist stuff like matt and ultra matt medium. Other options like heavy body acrylics have aren't found in hobby paints either

Contrast/speed paint/xpress medium is to thin while keeping the properties of their respective paints. can also make them go on more even and less staining.

Done I think
>>
>>98282819
i don't think it could do that, unless you use a lot of it. even mixing just a drop or two of regular paint with speedpaint and speedpaint medium acts more like regular hobby paint than speedpaint.

whatever is in the medium helps it level out more evenly even when it isn't applied evenly so you get nice even coats. It doesn't work as well on white/near white primers. I found that the vallejo grey primer is a little too white for even a 2:1 speedpaint to medium and it gets a little washed out. I currently do a 8:3 ratio of vallejo grey to vallejo black primer now. I haven't tried full black primer yet.
>>
I saw a pigment tutorial that said that Vallejo’s airbrush thinner can work to fix pigments in place. I will varnish over but is this airbrush thinner pigment fixing able to be done by a universal airbrush thinning ingredient?
Will Armypainter’s airbrush thinner and tamiya’s airbrush thinner and Ak’s thinner work the same way too?

How close did you come to breaking the long thin pieces? Pretty stressful looking, good paint job. Only thing I'd say is that the rubble below is a little bright, but cool.
>>
>>98283247
Terrifyingly close during building and painting. The squiggles weren't nearly as bad once the whole thing is put together, but the spear and tail constantly threatened to catch paintbrushes or paint bottles or the edge of the dry palette. Anxiety-inducing.
I see what you mean about the base, I'm hoping it's more a function of the severe head-on angle I've got the light at, and under generic table lights it'll naturally shadow itself. I really don't want to try to darken it and accidentally turn it brown.
>>
>>98283271
I see that, but as some point it looks like energy or a liquid underneath him instead of rubble. You're all good though, it looks fine, anon.
>>
>>98283279
Hmm, I see what you mean. I wonder if I could spot lowlight some of the edges, or selectively darken the recesses on the base.
I was trying to recreate Armenian volcanic tuff. It's come out a bit more saturated than I wanted for that, maybe violet wash instead of magenta will do it next time? Overall I'm extremely happy with it though.

Are tweezers really necessary for decal application or are they just very helpful?
I’m looking at angled, flat and pointy tipped ones.
>>
>>98284058
It's a bit of a hammer situation. Is hammer necessary for hammering down a nail? No, you can do it with a rock. But it's very, very helpful. And not just for decals.
>>
>>98284058
You'd rather use something like a paintbrush or qtip and just nudge the decal onto the surface.
Metal tweezers risk tearing the decal or otherwise scratching the paint.
>>
>>98284084
Okay thanks!
Are the armypainter tweezer shapes the basic ones to have along with an angled tweezer if I can find a cheap Amazon Canada set?
>>
>>98284094
I’ve got cotton swabs. I can use those.
I’ve also got tamiya decal softener and adhesive.
>>
>>98284058
I use a paint brush right out of the water onto the model, just a typical round #2 or smaller if it's a tiny decal. The water helps you arrange it, wipe off the excess water as you go. Paint the area gloss first.
>>
>>98284096
Armypainter, AK, Vallejo, Citadel, etc. tools are usually just overpriced chinese rebrands. I would recommend angled Tamiya picrel, it's pretty much the only tweezers you'll ever need.
You could also get reverse action twezers (that hold themselves closed) if you plan on doing some chipping or more delicate sponge work
>>
>>98284099
Very good. I don't have experience with those specific products, I usually just use water and varnish, but they should work fine if you look up a tutorial. I'm assuming you haven't used them before, based on your question.
>>
>>98284126
NTA, but decal solutions are great to have. Most well-tried and popular is Microset and Microsol (they should be used together), but I personally prefer VMS Decal set & soften. It's just one bottle and imo does better job than microset/sol.
>>
Speaking about decals - when I use them, I often apply gloss varnish first and next day first apply decal set solution (Vallejo one in my case, I simply have their bottle since long time and it will probably last for long despite being just 17ml one) and then slide the decal on it. But most guides and such suggest to adjust gently position of decal before pressing it for final one. Meanwhile when I slide the decal on surface covered by decal setter, it usually locks itself in this position right away - trying to gently push it around often don't work. What I'm doing wrong?

>What’s the difference between that tweezer and the angled black one aside from price?
HG (plain metal) = High Grade. Better material, handling, precision, etc. Depends on your user case. If you think it makes sense, go for it. If not, the regular will do and will most certainly be better than hobby-taxed Chinesium from Citadel/AK/AP, etc.
>Are tamiya’s tools really worth their price?
Yes. And they are built like tanks, I don't think I ever had anything from Tamiya breaking on me.

I used masking tape for it's intended purpose. Quite satisfied with the results, will eventually try more complex patterns on shields, but that's for a different project.

I feel like the mail is buried under too much paint at some points. Is it a stupid idea to use IPA for localized paint removal? These are plastic, so it should not damage the underlying model.

Like recent editions and Age of Sigmar, Warhammer 40,000 often borrowed the trappings and roolz mechanics from its fantasy cousin. Cards and tokens were an important part of both WHFB and WH40K back then.
>>
>>98285356
>Not everything in this hobby needs to be run through a hobby company at 350% markup
i'm not implying that, by all means get something else if it's good, just attesting that the tamiya ones markup or not are great, so it can save someone the hassle of buying some random shit and realize it too late
i also have many shit tweezers and when you need to hold a skull or something to drill on it or pick something like a rivet, quality makes a big difference

I have a pair of reverse tweezers, where they *open* when you squeeze them instead of closing them. Since I'm not a three-armed Genestealer hybrid, these things are absolutely invaluable when sliding waterslide transfers off the paper onto the target model's surface.

We want paints to be underthinned, since that's better value for money. It's quite literally more paint per bottle, since you're diluting it yourself instead of having it pre-diluted.

What’s a good way of safely removing superglue “fog” or “mist” off resin models?
For sake of maximum compatibility with all resins, please assume the resin is finecast resin.

I’m getting back into this hobby and noticed some models I glued and left have the glue fog.

A google result said nail polish remover, but I’m not too sure. Can anyone verify?
Lastly what are some good methods to prevent superglue mist from happening?
I believe I used gorilla glue super glue gel that comes in tubes at the time if the brand name matters.
>>
>>98285627
Just paint over it lol
>>
>>98285627
I've never gotten that before, shouldn't your primer cover it?
>>
>>98282929
Cute!
>>
>>98285627
>A google result said nail polish remover, but I’m not too sure.
Bad idea. Nail polish remover is acetone.
Acetone reacts differently with different types of resin, it can weaken or melt some types. If you don't know exactly what kind of resin you have, you should avoid using nail polish remover.
>>
>>98285672
>>98285682
If primer covers over without leaving texture then I’d be okay with that. Can anyone confirm the mist won’t mess with primer adhesion?
>>98285719
Fair enough. By chance do you know and have experience with a safer and less time consuming method?
>>
>>98285749
sure it will mess with the adhesion you are basically painting over powder afterall
best to find cheap and good superglue that doesnt fog at all
>>
>>98285767
>that doesn’t fog at all
I’m not sure what brand doesn’t fog st all.
I do remember reading that super glue gel is the best, but I’m not sure now. Maybe my superglue went bad? I don’t like throwing things away.

>>
>>98285828

>>
>>98285828
>depends on where you live
I live in Canada and the hobby station is in the basement if that helps.
>that pic
Are you an avid 3d printer with all that?
I’m impressed all the same.
But oddly enough does the super glue being a liquid or gel affect the chances of super glue fogging?
Also do you by chance use an accelerator or as some call “zip kicker?” Does that increase or decrease fogging?

I don’t have the space right now as I’m cleaning things but hopefully when I get the time some hand soap in water and tooth brushing and rub off the mist residue. And hopefully remove any resin residue spots I may have missed.

And hopefully the superglue I have right now is still usable so I can get my money’s worth.
>>
>>98285841
Not him, but i used to buy those cheap tubes as well. Big bottles often clog, especially with superglue. I always had issues with that, so i went for the cheapest options i could find. Usually 1-2€ for 5 or more of those little tubes. Its a throwaway product, literally.

Eventually, i developed a really nasty allergy against super glue fumes, so nowadays is stick to odorless superglue (which comes in big (and not very cheap) bottles only, but at least they come with spare tips, to replace them after some time, because of the inevitable clogging).
>>
>>98285862
>Big bottles often clog, especially with superglue
It's a non-issue nowadays. I use Starbond, which not only comes with multiple replacement spare tips, but also multiple spare lil bottles.
>>
>>98285872
Well, the ones i knew before did not come with any spare tips, and weren't cheap enough to replace the entire bottle after using only 50% of it. But the stuff i use nowadays has the spares, to it is indeed a non-issue now.
But i still get the reasoning behind buying those super cheap little ones. And if you use superglue maybe once every 2 month for whatever little bits of resin you are gluing, having 10 of those will last forever too.

I've a question for the rivet maker experts here. How can you cut other shapes from aluminium sheet besides small round ones that are done with the blunt end of a drill bit? I've had a bit of success with pressing a small torx bit against the sheet, but the leatherwork punches I've used for tape and plasticard don't work here. Bits that are larger than about 2mm in diameter haven't been useful either.
>>
>>98286618
depends on what you are looking for
if you are happy with the round shapes/rivets you are basically golden already
>Bits that are larger than about 2mm in diameter
large round shapes are just nuts you havent yet cut the corners off from for example

I'm mostly happy with them. Saw one guy who had made lots of different shapes from the sheet and was curious of how it's actually done.
