>>98280411Excellent thread theme this time, baker-sama.
We could totally start off this thread by talking about drybrushing: >>98280352Meanwhile, I'm converting Veteran Sergeant Metaurus from the Wardens of Ultramar kit to lead my Bladeguard Veterans.
Im gonna ask here since it seems like a decent place. Any idea what this model is? Appears to be a hero unit of some sort. I THINK its an elf since it was with a bunch of other eldar type units. Its not massive or anything.
>>98280491Mistweaver Saih
>>98280411Man, I feel so tired these days. Even cleaning brushes feels like a chore
>>98280521Ah neat thanks... so its like a one off kinda thing from a random side game like 30 people played?
>>98280491Holy shit Google Lens is powerful. Found it instantly, it's Mistweaver Saih, an OOP model from Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower. It looks like the right arm on the pictured one has been modified, but the rest of the details match the google results exactly.
>>98280564Maybe AI will actually take over.
>>98280564I bet whoever was using it was using it as a proxie/kitbash for an eldar farseer or somethign. honestly, I can see it.
>>98280523If nothing else is happening in your life right now, you probably have a vitamin deficiency. If I were to take a stab at it, it's probably a vitamin D deficiency, which can make you feel flat and depressed (and is the root cause of seasonal depression). Go outside if you're able, and take supplements if you aren't.

>>98280441I’ve honestly never really understood why they say to moisten your dry brush. Every YouTuber has some clickbaity shit like IVE BEEN DRYBRUSHING WRONG THE WHOLE TIME where they talk about having a sponge to touch your brush to but I’ve never had an issue just using one normally. Something to do with preventing chalkiness? But most of the time you’re slathering something over a white drybrush anyway
>>98281121When I put an atom of water on my drybrush the paint will just come out streaky as hell. Nowadays I have ascended to spongeslopping.
>>98281121It does help to have a lil extra moisture in the dry brushI used to use a kitchen spongeBut now i just dip the brush handle in my water cup and stroke it against the back of my hand then dab my drybrush against my handWorks just as wellNo need for a sponge desu

>>98280411How effective are traditional acrylic products as replacements for hobby specific products?I'm thinking like Liquitex Glaze Medium vs Vallejo Glaze Medium.
>>98280603he's in australia genius
>>98281425i've been using liquitex mediums. it's fine and like 1/10th the price. I've tried liquitex paint, it's a little too thick for brushing on, but not unusable. Works fine for airbrush with thinner.
Thoughts? Going for a battle-damaged look.

>98281618Nice QUALITY bait there
>>98281618nigga do you even thin yer paints?
Brass or gold?
Painted a Pz.II. Thinking I might do a scenic base for it. Apparently I need to repaint the barrel in metal, but fairly happy in general.
>>98281852They pretty much look the same so go with whatever you like best
>>98281618Now I got your fingerprints, bitch.
>>98281425>>98281466I also use liquitex glaze medium and it works fine with acrylic hobby paints. Think a big bottle cost me like $6 when I got it and I'll probably never run out.
>>98281852they look fine. The gold looks a lot like Emperor's Children.
>>98281917Dang you are right there, going with the brass then, to separate a bit from EC.Marrowsworn aint traitors
>>98281852left doesn't look like brass at all. right looks more like brass than gold.
>>98280411>you will sand ze codpiece of the hot (infernus) unitwhat did GW mean by this
Got him mounted on the base. I kinda think I'm gonna leave this guy's helmet bare, no big plumes or crests, something about the axe and his steel buckler just gives off the vibe that foregoes all of that theatricality. Then again, with the fact he his basically a wall of steel a plume or some kind of crest might add a bit of variety.
man contrast paint is supposed to be idiot proof but every time i try to use it it looks like dogshit. picked up some skeleton horde because everyone seemed to swear by it and rather than the bone magic everyone says it produces, it's just looking awful
>>98282230bruh you have been posting these conversions for months have you painted a single one yet? or are you going to make the whole army before you start painting? what game are they even for?
>>98280979Damn. That looks neat.
>>98282230He woke up this morning and chose violence.
I'm looking to try TAMIYA XF66 Flat Light Grey since it's spot on for the main grey of my army without having to mixI know they're great for airbrushing but when I batchpaint I paint sloppy and go back to clean up mistakes after, how do these tamiya paints handle with a normal brush
>>98281419They are more or less the same for glaze medium. You get more options with artist stuff like matt and ultra matt medium. Other options like heavy body acrylics have aren't found in hobby paints either
>>98282430>ultra matt mediumNTA, but how's liquitex ultra matt?
>>98282230why wear a buckler with plate? also whats with the gluey feet
>>98282452I use it with transparent paints like contrast to make it flow and be more consistent. It works well and is much cheaper per liter than hobby medium
>>98282532How flat it is? AK Ultra Matte tier, or worse?
Rattle rattleHope you all have a good night and a good day tomorrow
>>98282302are you using speedpaint medium? that completely changed the product for me. using it straight out of the bottle wasn't great. but a drop of medium really makes it super easy to use.
>>98282538I haven't really used AK ultra matte, but yeah it's pretty flat which is what I want
>>98282576Thanks, anon, I'll grab a bottle.
>>98282554nah ive only used them out of the bottle or diluted on a wet palette. that's annoying but maybe it's worth a try. so tired of the answer in this hobby always being that you need to buy some other product to make the base product actually work.
Note to self-do not forget to use wet napkins when applying pigment tommorow.
>>98282608i feel you amigo. i thought the same thing too. but after i got the speedpaint medium, it's a super easy tool to use.
>>98282554>>98282773I thought Speedpaint medium was meant to turn non speed paints into speed paints.
>>98282819Contrast/speed paint/xpress medium is to thin while keeping the properties of their respective paints. can also make them go on more even and less staining.Just finished this rat that's been on my desk for a few months. phoned it in hard on the last details but he looks cute enough i think.
>>98280411Done I think
>>98282819i don't think it could do that, unless you use a lot of it. even mixing just a drop or two of regular paint with speedpaint and speedpaint medium acts more like regular hobby paint than speedpaint.whatever is in the medium helps it level out more evenly even when it isn't applied evenly so you get nice even coats. It doesn't work as well on white/near white primers. I found that the vallejo grey primer is a little too white for even a 2:1 speedpaint to medium and it gets a little washed out. I currently do a 8:3 ratio of vallejo grey to vallejo black primer now. I haven't tried full black primer yet.
I saw a pigment tutorial that said that Vallejo’s airbrush thinner can work to fix pigments in place. I will varnish over but is this airbrush thinner pigment fixing able to be done by a universal airbrush thinning ingredient? Will Armypainter’s airbrush thinner and tamiya’s airbrush thinner and Ak’s thinner work the same way too?
>>98281428So? I'm in Australia and I have a vitamin D deficiency, it's winter right now too, prime time for seasonal depression.
>>98282948>Lion AbsSweet. Do its stats in game do this justice?
>>98283109No clue, I am a lowly friendly local commission monkey
Holy shit, I didn't think I had it in me, but it's finally done. Biggest model I've ever built or painted. My hands hurt so fucking bad bros.
>>98283234Booty shot for the perverts and sickos.
>>98283234How close did you come to breaking the long thin pieces? Pretty stressful looking, good paint job. Only thing I'd say is that the rubble below is a little bright, but cool.
>>98283247Terrifyingly close during building and painting. The squiggles weren't nearly as bad once the whole thing is put together, but the spear and tail constantly threatened to catch paintbrushes or paint bottles or the edge of the dry palette. Anxiety-inducing.I see what you mean about the base, I'm hoping it's more a function of the severe head-on angle I've got the light at, and under generic table lights it'll naturally shadow itself. I really don't want to try to darken it and accidentally turn it brown.
>>98283271I see that, but as some point it looks like energy or a liquid underneath him instead of rubble. You're all good though, it looks fine, anon.
>>98283279Hmm, I see what you mean. I wonder if I could spot lowlight some of the edges, or selectively darken the recesses on the base.I was trying to recreate Armenian volcanic tuff. It's come out a bit more saturated than I wanted for that, maybe violet wash instead of magenta will do it next time? Overall I'm extremely happy with it though.
>>98282948Very nice brushwork
>>98283306I would even say a little bit of black in the grooves would do wonders, just so that it doesn't look watery or like a flux of power. The color looks close to your reference though.
>>98280603>just go outsideThanks jackass, but I live in coastal Alaska and it's been overcast for the past 3 weeks. Outside doesn't do shit
>>98283347>Doesn't know how summer works...
>>98283347Read the next few words. ">Go outside IF YOU'RE ABLE>Take supplements if you aren'tYou can get vitamin D supplements over the counter at any drug store.
>>98283366>if you're able I am able, there is no sun
>>98283376Then take supplements you incorrigible retard.I have to question if you're acting like a defeatist cunt on purpose or if you were just dropped repeatedly as a child.
>>98283395I literally cannot get sun through the overcast and it doesn't help because Im black so the few rays aren't even enough
>>98283484lazy retard
>>98283526He already said that.
>>98283484You are definitely intentionally trolling. I refuse to believe anybody is truly THIS retarded.
>>98282929Cute.
>>98282985I just realized both Vallejo and greenstuff world have dedicated acrylic pigment fixers. Are these both something from the makeup hobby but rebranded? But will airbrush thinner still work across different brands? It would be funny if they all did.
>>98282929>>98282970Then what makes it “Speedpaint” medium and how is it different from lahmian or warpaints stabilizer
Nearly done with this badboi - just edge highlights and weathering left
>>98283799All speedpaints are just regular pigments suspended in speedpaint medium right out of the bottle. Medium is just paint without the pigment. Speedpaint medium is just speedpaint without pigment.
>>98283817Dreadchonk, nice
>>98281962Radical.

>>98283817Very nice, anon.
Are tweezers really necessary for decal application or are they just very helpful?I’m looking at angled, flat and pointy tipped ones.
>>98284058It's a bit of a hammer situation. Is hammer necessary for hammering down a nail? No, you can do it with a rock. But it's very, very helpful. And not just for decals.
>>98284058You'd rather use something like a paintbrush or qtip and just nudge the decal onto the surface. Metal tweezers risk tearing the decal or otherwise scratching the paint.
>>98284084Okay thanks! Are the armypainter tweezer shapes the basic ones to have along with an angled tweezer if I can find a cheap Amazon Canada set?
>>98284094I’ve got cotton swabs. I can use those.I’ve also got tamiya decal softener and adhesive.
>>98284058I use a paint brush right out of the water onto the model, just a typical round #2 or smaller if it's a tiny decal. The water helps you arrange it, wipe off the excess water as you go. Paint the area gloss first.
>>98284096Armypainter, AK, Vallejo, Citadel, etc. tools are usually just overpriced chinese rebrands. I would recommend angled Tamiya picrel, it's pretty much the only tweezers you'll ever need. You could also get reverse action twezers (that hold themselves closed) if you plan on doing some chipping or more delicate sponge work
>>98284099Very good. I don't have experience with those specific products, I usually just use water and varnish, but they should work fine if you look up a tutorial. I'm assuming you haven't used them before, based on your question.
>>98284126NTA, but decal solutions are great to have. Most well-tried and popular is Microset and Microsol (they should be used together), but I personally prefer VMS Decal set & soften. It's just one bottle and imo does better job than microset/sol.
Speaking about decals - when I use them, I often apply gloss varnish first and next day first apply decal set solution (Vallejo one in my case, I simply have their bottle since long time and it will probably last for long despite being just 17ml one) and then slide the decal on it. But most guides and such suggest to adjust gently position of decal before pressing it for final one. Meanwhile when I slide the decal on surface covered by decal setter, it usually locks itself in this position right away - trying to gently push it around often don't work. What I'm doing wrong?
Need help with a color scheme. I was thinking combined black + a very dark red or magenta for that stereotypical grimdark chaos look.Sadly the new red corsairs are now dark red instead of bright red.
>>98281858holy shit. they must have dug real deep in the vaults of Terra to find that one. Good work
>>98284221>Sadly the new red corsairs are now dark red instead of bright red. What? Who cares? You can paint Red Corsairs however you like, dark or light, doesn't matter. You could paint them fucking blue and just say they're still "Red" Corsairs.
>>98282929man, I asked the store like half a year ago if there are plans to restock the set with this rat and they replied(pretty fast too) that yeah they will soon.and still nothing.I wanted the set but I guess I'll buy Burrows and Badgers stuff insteadnice job btw
>>98284250>You could paint them fucking blue and just say they're still "Red" Corsairs.

>>98284410Absolutely stellar as always, BTanon. Love the DORN on the fist.
>>98284250Well that's exactly my point that you confirm. These are not Red Corsairs. I tvougjof a scheme that could be different enough but GW has now changed Red Corsairs to be black and dark red, so I'm looking for suggestions for alternative color schemes so they dont look like Red Corsairs
>>98284432Thanks manI felt 'dorn' written on a fist would be quite apt
>>98284559meant to add that Im not sure whether I should still try and paint the crusader helmet to see which one fits it better
>>98284410the dorn knuckles are sick. i keep forgetting to ask, what size/scale is that chain?
>>982845951/350 anchor chain. I use 1/700 too but they are a bit too small for chaining weapons imo, also easier to gunk up with glue.

>>98284921>What’s the difference between that tweezer and the angled black one aside from price?HG (plain metal) = High Grade. Better material, handling, precision, etc. Depends on your user case. If not, the regular will do and will most certainly be better than hobby-taxed Chinesium from Citadel/AK/AP, etc. >Are tamiya’s tools really worth their price?Yes. I'd rec the stedi brand tweezers, i bought 2 seperate tamiya ones and they were more expensive and bent easily. i got these other ones cause ive been seeing the brand shilled in gunpla spaces and really liked them
What’s a good way of safely removing superglue “fog” or “mist” off resin models? For sake of maximum compatibility with all resins, please assume the resin is finecast resin.I’m getting back into this hobby and noticed some models I glued and left have the glue fog.A google result said nail polish remover, but I’m not too sure. Can anyone verify?Lastly what are some good methods to prevent superglue mist from happening?I believe I used gorilla glue super glue gel that comes in tubes at the time if the brand name matters.
>>98285627Just paint over it lol
>>98285627I've never gotten that before, shouldn't your primer cover it?

>>98285627>A google result said nail polish remover, but I’m not too sure.Bad idea. Nail polish remover is acetone. >>98285828>depends on where you liveI live in Canada and the hobby station is in the basement if that helps.>that picAre you an avid 3d printer with all that?I’m impressed all the same. But oddly enough does the super glue being a liquid or gel affect the chances of super glue fogging? Also do you by chance use an accelerator or as some call “zip kicker?” Does that increase or decrease fogging?I don’t have the space right now as I’m cleaning things but hopefully when I get the time some hand soap in water and tooth brushing and rub off the mist residue. And hopefully remove any resin residue spots I may have missed. And hopefully the superglue I have right now is still usable so I can get my money’s worth.
>>98285841Not him, but i used to buy those cheap tubes as well. Big bottles often clog, especially with superglue. I always had issues with that, so i went for the cheapest options i could find. Usually 1-2€ for 5 or more of those little tubes. Its a throwaway product, literally. Eventually, i developed a really nasty allergy against super glue fumes, so nowadays is stick to odorless superglue (which comes in big (and not very cheap) bottles only, but at least they come with spare tips, to replace them after some time, because of the inevitable clogging).
>>98285862>Big bottles often clog, especially with superglueIt's a non-issue nowadays. I use Starbond, which not only comes with multiple replacement spare tips, but also multiple spare lil bottles.
>>98285872Well, the ones i knew before did not come with any spare tips, and weren't cheap enough to replace the entire bottle after using only 50% of it. But the stuff i use nowadays has the spares, to it is indeed a non-issue now.But i still get the reasoning behind buying those super cheap little ones. And if you use superglue maybe once every 2 month for whatever little bits of resin you are gluing, having 10 of those will last forever too.
>>98285095>Blood effectTy. I try to be extremely sparing with blood effects and I always have a damp brush at hand to wipe it off. It is so easy to overdo it.
it's been a while since I've checked in on this thread. I have too many wip's
>>98286142What's the tonk on the left, anon? Looks awesome. Also>antislip textureBased.
>>98286153My guess is its a scout tank by Mortian?
>>98286200>>98286153Yep, the two resin tanks are both variants of the Mortian scout. His webstore is a little byzantine but he does great prints.
I don't understand what people mean by glue fogging. how can you see what the glue looks like when it's in between the things you glued?
>>98286301some superglues form large round white chalky substance around them when they dry
>>98286236Ah, so i was correct. I had planned to order one or two of the scout tanks myself a while ago, but kinda forgot about it. I've seen he is selling some of his releases as STLs too now. But those tanks you got there look super crisp, the left one looks almost like plastic.
Finished my “Crimson” Paladins and Contemptor. Had these DW Knights for so long, was intimidated about how much I’d have to scrape off to turn them into something else. They came out ok? The one I had to greenstuff his chest tabard is kinda janky, first time using greenstuff. Wish it all came out better but it was a learning process and now I’m just glad they’re done after years of staring at me
Sheeit my friend gave me a blacklight
>>98280441Ah a fellow cork user i see
Weekly paint group WIP/resultsHope you're all having a good week
>>98286480My wife and I were married at a winery. I have access to a pretty good supply of cork and cork-related paraphernalia.
>Brober, do you love me?
Zoned out and didn't take earlier progress pictures.
>>98285422Eldfall is fun. The dungeon crawler is cool but I prefer the skirmish. Minis are top notch if you like detailed stuff. Google wartable if you want to play the skirmish for free with a friend. Rules free on website. My friend and I printed the official art into standees, played with that a while, then bought the actual minis to paint because they're cool. Plays a lot like infinity
>>98286549Fuck yeah, sexy cat
>>98285627>>98285672>>98285682>>98285719>>98286301alright then lets test this shit outnow i dont own any big brand superglues but lets see if we can scrub the primer off these onesright one is already showing the signs after 10 minutesill keep you posted
>>98286544forgot pic
>>98286569I lub you brober
I've a question for the rivet maker experts here. How can you cut other shapes from aluminium sheet besides small round ones that are done with the blunt end of a drill bit? I've had a bit of success with pressing a small torx bit against the sheet, but the leatherwork punches I've used for tape and plasticard don't work here. Bits that are larger than about 2mm in diameter haven't been useful either.
>>98286618depends on what you are looking forif you are happy with the round shapes/rivets you are basically golden already>Bits that are larger than about 2mm in diameterlarge round shapes are just nuts you havent yet cut the corners off from for example
>>98286682I'm mostly happy with them. Saw one guy who had made lots of different shapes from the sheet and was curious of how it's actually done.
>>98286707take a ferrule from an old brush and shape the end with pliers and start gently hacking away
>>98284559>>98284585I like the helmet more>>98283719He's probably abbo, so very likely this is him operating at full bandwidth>>98282084GW is the fucking worst at deciding where to put their sprue channels
>>98286312but you shouldn't be able to see it because the glue is in between the parts
>>98286789You don't use enough superglue.
Been working on another Spite Revenant
I think i need to break up the flails a bitThat's a job for tomorrow
>>98282714It really did prevent a lot of mess
>>98286841no I think you are using too much
Done except for base, I think
>>98287163why did you shart all over your desk?
>>98287253If there isn't a crusty residue left around the entire join then your join isn't strong enough.
when re-doin resin minis, should I just print it again?Im going to finish her for practice, but its just not turning out like i wanted
What’s the best way to magnetize my shining spear exarch/make the weapons swappable? It’s a ball socket and I dont think a tiny magnet will be able to hold up the star lance.
>>98287668what is the diameter of the joint?
Bases aren't dry enough to finish but I think I'm done otherwise.
>>98287664If you can, sure, why not? Then you can have a nice photo of the old one and the new one side by side
Spent the entire weekend fucking with the tactical rock to change the angle of this pose but I think it finally worked
>>98280411Im working on making some Knights of Morrs but Im struggling to deal with painting black knights on black armoured horses. What can I do to make it look less of just a black blob? I think all the parts just mix together and doesn't look the best.
>>98288072Maybe edge highlight the horse armor with silver and the rider's armor with gold?
>>98288072You could paint the horses with white fur instead of brown. Maybe do a little freehand somewhere
how long after applying oils is it safe to varnish/top coat something?
>>98288072You need wayyy more contrast. Brighten up the legs on the horse, maybe make the knight's armour a different shade to the horse's armour, and paint the lance something bright as a focal point.
