Welcome to /wbg/, the thread for discussions of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art.Last thread: >>98156615Thread Questions: are cringe and not conducive to active participation in the thread; instead, post your own questions and read the fucking thread.
>>98300268Sure I’ll bite. Does any here have ideas and inspirations for planet a science fantasy setting? Most generators are not calibrated to accommdate the goals of my setting.
>>98300354>for planet a science fantasy setting?
>>98300399Come on, he's just asking "for a planet IN a science fantasy setting".Maybe Starforged?
>>98300399>>98300422>*Planets There, better you fags? Ever since whatever faggotry they applied to this site I couldn’t post from anything but a phone.
>>98300354I don't have an answer for you but I'm curious what are the goals of your setting?
>>98300354I prefer the absurd when it comes to science fantasy so I would never be satisfied with just a normal planet. The Dreaming City from Destiny 2 is a good example of what I go for; it's a massive disk that has a portal to a literal pocket dimension where the Humans turned space elves came from.I'd go the extra step by having the disk be a half sphere cupped by two massive hands to give the aura that it was part of a celestial scale statue or super structure because that sort of shit is what makes science fantasy to me.
>>98303475Basically anything made by a Bungie environmental artist is good inspiration. I swear, those environment artists were hard-carrying Destiny after awhile.
>>98300354>Stars without Number + Dead Names splat for alien ruins and artifacts >Emperor of the Fading Suns Imperial Surveys & Star Crusade books >Planet Algol blog >Straight up rip off Planet of Adventure.
>>98307808From the start rather, it's been a game that's overwhelmingly been concept + environment and lore over gameplay and plot since D1.
What would be a good system to play as a porter?
>>98303315I want varied worlds but the setting itself is more sword and planet, weird fiction, and pulp with some inspiration from more modern stuff in the science fantasy vein.My goal is to avoid making planets one note (avoid generic desert planet) while making them different enough from each other as well as incorporate the more fantastical aspect. I also need tools to generate them rapidly but I’m willing to make them if necessary.>>98303475>>98307808>>98307910I like the ideas and art of Destiny and Warframe but would never actually play them to see what they are about.>>98307903I’ll check them out and how they are.
>>98300354Sorry, all of my ideas and inspirations are strictly fantasy.
Hello. If any of you read /WoDg/&/CofDg/ >>98304491 , you are aware of the Fan Reboot of Darkness. The existence of the Masquerade/Veil strains credulity yet without it, the setting's premise would be unplayable. That is to say, it would not resemble our contemporary world; its familiarity is the appeal. How can I navigate/settle the tensions with the status quo in a satisfactory manner?
When you're running gonzo or surreal stuff, does verisimilitude matter? I don't mean irrelevant stuff like "if mice only live a few years, how did this mouse professor have time to complete his PhD?" so much as "what do these guys eat?" Do players care about this, or is it just my autism?
>>98312754Most humans (anyone with low or normal Willpower) don't want to break the Masquerade. They'd prefer not to think about it and will dismiss Masquerade breaches as hoaxes or the result of rare but mundane phenomena. They'll only accept the truth if it's shoved in their face. Also vampires have infiltrated the government and whatnot.
>>98312855>Do players care about this, or is it just my autism? If you're running a game that has strict resource tracking and those things come up for player characters it gets harder to handwave for NPCs although there's room to handwave if the monsters and such are strange enough. Note that verisimilitude doesn't mean realism. It might be enough for the psiraptor to be seen eating a thing rather than worrying about making sure the entire techno ziggurat has enough prey animals to support the dietary requirements of all the monsters.
>>98310606What about Wilderlands of High Fantasy with its crashed flying saucers?
>>98307903> Star Crusade booksI can’t find anything about this.
>>98314267>flying saucersThose are definitely fantasy.
Bandits are important to a good setting IMO
>>98315416
>>98314419Old Fading Suns books. Not as much generators but resources for premades that are for sword & planet, which I assumed >planet a science fantasy setting? was trying to say. Don't know if there's still a trove up. You can get them from scribid with a ripper.

>>98315416>no helmetsNever gonna kidnap the local lord's wife and get rich from the ransom.
>>98312754>How can I navigate/settle the tensions with the status quo in a satisfactory manner?Just ignore it, superhero settings do it. Maybe refer to AI and deepfakes and SFX when explaining why people don't believe the cell phone footage of a werewolf who recorded themselves shifting to get followers on TikTok.The only plausible explanation is Exarchs or the God-Machine or some shit like that, and then you have to ask why they do anything at all.>>98300268Also do we really need two /wbg/s just because you're triggered the other one mentioned Discord, OP? >>98283927You even deleted the resource links and avoided putting up a thread question, which makes it obvious why you created this thread. Here are the links for newbies who just want the thread to be usable rather than actively mismanaged by a loser troll:Resources for Newfags: https://sites.google.com/view/wbgeneral/Worldbuilding links: pastee.dev/p/sp2Mdb5Ihttps://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/view/Eo+fK41FKVR7xDpbNO0a0N4k0YYxrmyrhX3VxnM14Ew/Fantasy map generator: https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generator
>>98320380Why not make a third one?Not like you faggots stay in your containment anyway, with all of your shitty "in ur settan" thread questions, where retards get pissy over being asked what games they play because they can't answer.Let's just have every thread be about either stories or worldbuilding; we're almost at that point already anyway.
Could someone help me come up with a name for a "tactician" type martial class? It's supposed to have military connotations, but I want to avoid using any words someone might want to use in a conversation. Like, being a "warrior" is more of a lifestyle than anything, and a character in the campaign might literally be a "warlord", so neither of those are very useful. So far, the working title is "trooper", but it feels a little off.
>>98321100>containmentFucking newfag, gtfo. Discussing the worldbuilding of fantasy settings has, in fact, been part of this board forever. This thread is supposed to be a place for more detailed, specific, and personal material.
>>98321559WarmasterBattlebornAuctor (based off " auctoritas")Tactikrator (sorta "master of tactics")Polearch ("ruler of the demon of war")
>>98309327>I also need tools to generate them rapidly but I’m willing to make them if necessary.https://www.orogen.studio/Literally the second result on froogle for "planet generator."
>coming up with flavor text
>>98321732I've been here longer than you if you don't remember what happened to quests.
>>98326946So you haven't been here longer than me?Impressive you've been here so long and yet still haven't acculturated to the board yet, though.
>>98322759Warmaster has some merit, though it seems to imply a degree of authority that I don't know if I like. Maybe I should take a page out of the American lexicon and call them 'warfighters'. Surely that's a word no one would ever utter otherwise.
>>98325731It's a tricky thing. It's called 'flavor' for a reason; it has to be descriptive - but of subjective aspects. It must not be spoiling, but it must reveal enough, and instantly awaken the tastebuds, nostrils and hunger for more.
Something has devoured meaning from the English tongue. Burarum.
I think I unintentionally made humanity's "thing" being the cold-adapted species in my SF setting, as the homeworlds of all the species whose territory borders humans' are either hot and dry or hot and humid compared to Earth.
>>98329838>imply a degree of authority that I don't know if I like.It was precisely the reason I hesitated to include it, but couldn't come up with an alternative to "master". For example, "warborn" sounded too edgy.
>>98309124Why would you want to play as a porter?I ask not to be a dick, but to understand what kind of vibe and adventure you are looking for to help find a system or setting that best matches what you want to do.Otherwise I would just suggest something hyper flexible like risus or gurps.
>>98322759TacticianWarmasterCommanderCaptainetc
>>98334000Because I really like the set up Death Stranding has. Rather than being explicitly a super hero you have to navigate natural challenges as well as the Human ones.In general, I've grown more interested in the idea of adventures that are not the typical hack and slash sorts like space search and rescue or something of the sort. It fulfills all the requirements for challenge and drama in a non-commital sort of way that doesn't involve a overdrawn narrative.
>>98334407NTA but while that sounds interesting what does it have to do with worldbuilding?
>>98332067I have to wonder how hot their planets are if humans are considered cold adapted. The only reason humans are able to live in the cold is because of shelter and clothing. Otherwise we can die of exposure after a few hours in 40 degree weather if we stuck out there naked.
>>98315416Kill yourself puckee
>>98315416Are you ever going to tell us why you're doing this
>>98309327>I like the ideas and art of Destiny and Warframe but would never actually play them to see what they are about.Good, because they're shit grindans and Destiny has been abandoned too
