>>98326261Anon what are you talking about?
>>98326495I mean those are very good paints for mini painting. Better than GW'sIf it isn't too much I would personally invest into that, you can use them for other minis in the future.
>TQTomb King vs Wood Elf AJ plus model releaseNo idea what would be in that release, but it's the most likely candidate going by previous AJ and the complete lack of Wood elf or Tomb King in the Battle March book.No idea what could be after that, though maybe more Chaos and Brettonia stuff or that rumoured Warhammer Siege book, but that seems unlikely
>>98326513What's in his pocket?
>>98326519There's never going to be a wood elf big box I don't know what you guys are somking, it's literally the least played non legacy faction.
>>98326584never understood this retarded logic.GW doesnt care for player numbers for their releases. especially when it comes to tourney fags
>TQWE and TK for sureAfter that it'll be plastic grail knights that are as big as the chaos warriors
Im not playing if wood elves ever end up being good. If either wood elves, ogres, or dwarves are good in your meta, then its likely that edition is a dogshit one. Id rather endure 8th edition chaos blocks before that.
>>98326590>gw doesn't care how many minis they'll selllollmao evenI guess that's why they keep releasing chaos content huh?
>>98326507Maybe they'll do more beastchad releases now that they can be souped with warriors. A new chariot, centigors, and a BSB/hero box would be great.
>>98326652Dude they’re souping beastmen so they don’t have to pay attention to them again.
I've got the goblin half of the AoS battle box "looncurse" sitting in my hobby room. One of these days I won't be able to resist temptation and they'll all be going on square bases
>>98326664This, and that's a good thing. We don't need new models for old units, that's what 3D printing is for. We need new factions.I want Kislev and Vampirates.
>>98326670>Vampirates.Sounds like Somalian pirates to me
>>98326673>somalian
Bring on the Kislev my body is ready
>>98326615What's wrong with ogres
>>98326695Ogres are the gigachad army so they naturally intimidate beta males
Does TOW really let you just awkwardly pile in three units onto the front of one enemy unit like this and everyone gets to attack? I'm thinking of cancelling my pre-order.
>>98326702No. That unit of chaos warriors can't close the door.
>>98326702Those knights kinda look like shit now that I’m looking at em
>>98326714Those are old knights and warriors
>>98326714Knights are Age of Smegmar ones so they're way too big and look janky ranked up. Warriors are the old early 00's ones. I'm an unc though so I like them.
i got the orc bosses box, is it better to build the bsb or boss on the boar? i don't have any boar boyz yet but i am planning on getting some eventually
>>98326670>I want Kislev and Vampirates.Cathay really was the most boring possible option for a new faction
>>98326702You’ve already posted this shitpost picture before Mr manlet
>>98326732Figure it out yourself and think. >>98326742Could be worse. Could be wood elves or tomb kings.
>>98326742It was okay, chink dragons, lanterns, terracotta soldiers, ying yang etc. It was a pretty good mix of historical and fantastical. I just want more.
>>98326649He means that GW don't operate on the basis of >does this faction have a sufficient playerbase to support them being a permanent and common presence in the scenebut rather on>does this thing have enough people who want to buy it to get as close as possible to selling out our initial production run of the new product once we factor in FOMOtacticsGW noticed a long time ago that they get ~85% of the total lifetime sales of any given product from the initial preorder and launch period, but being Marketing Geniuses rather than conclude this is a completely normal situation when your perfectly heathy business steadily recruits people over time and those people will buy whatever miniatures are available at that moment for the faction they're attracted to resulting in a steady trickle of sales spread across your whole range, whereas when you release an all-new product or range of products your potential audience is every single person who plays that faction, used to play that faction, or was considering playing it but held off due to old minis they disliked and so naturally you'll get a big sales bump, they decided it meant they had an audience of totally uncritical consoomers who'd buy anything so long as it was NEW and SHINY and LIMITED EDITION.They don't care if something is popular in an abstract sense, they care if there are enough people in existence at a given moment to sell through a production run. After that they don't give a fuck, if sales die off completely they'll just Legends the product line or drop it entirely - they made all the money they had to make from that initial run.
>>98326632Agreed. "Cathy" lore is shit. Second only to Skaven in shittinesss.
>>98326774You're standing here basically saying new dark eldar minis will sell as much as new space marine while GW sells yet another box of space marines for 400th time, proving you're wrong and kind of retarded.
>>98326756The historical elements were the lamest interpretations of it The fantasy was the worst of it Also I don’t think the ying yang element has been an element within the army at all
>>98326791Now you're just being a debby downer.
>>98326792No I just know that Cathay is fucking lame and is an ultimate disservice to actual sinophiless. Anyone who bought Cathay would have bought into it regardless of how it was executed, a true and bona fide slop pig.
>>98326791>>98326811Bro you could have just asked an employee at your FLGS for a step up or to grab the Cathay box off the shelf for you. This vendetta you have because you couldn’t acquire it is embarrassing
>>98326811I think you're projecting the fact your opinion about cathay wouldn't be different regardless of how they were made.
>>98326756The historical bits were okay. That fantasy bits were fantastic piles of shit.
>>98326811That's just GW customers in general.
>manlet samefagging spam Is it that time of day again
>>98326888I have a suspicion that he's the one organizing this monthly painting thing too.Not that that's a bad thing in and of itself, a painting event is great, but it's odd that he'd want to do something nice for this thread instead of shitting it up like he always does.Makes a fella wonder.
>>98326850Actually no.
Just release Kislev already
Kislev is coming with the 2.0 Great War Against Chaos release, Siege of Praag box with Engra Deathsword vs whoever the Tzar is.
>>98326724The knights are the AoS, not the older 6th edition WFB ones.
>>98327014Yes but do that now instead of in 3 years
>all that empirefag and grog seethe about cathayDelicious. You will never get kislev or legacy factions though lolNext release after TK/WE will be more cathay
>>98326563Wouldn't you like to know, American boy
>>98327014>Tzar Khan-Queen
>>98327080I don't call ig the astra militarum and I won't call the tzar/tzarina a kongkween
>>98326777>loreSkaven FLUFF is sublime.
>>98327036I want Kislev but I don't want a new edition now, they still have a lot to sort out before they tackle a new edition and the FAQ isn't exactly promising in terms of their awareness of the state of the game. It's like they work a year behind the community, still nerfing cav and handing out freebies to infantry despite infantry becoming viable with last years changes. Most of all they need a cohesive vision for the game and not just a big errata. At minimum I'd want to see capped static combat res, magic pools, a maximum of two saves per model and march block proximity becoming equal to the total marching movement of the unit wishing to march.
So how is your day considering canons auto hit and ignoring regens?
>>98327103I’m pretty sure the hell canon is still bad so it doesn’t matter to me
>>98327108The hellcannon is not a cannon. It's a stone thrower.
>>98326507>TQWood Elves versus TK box first, hopefully with updated Wood Elves because just fucking look at them. Then, probably a Bretonnia refresh but only for the knight units, and just like the Foot Knights, they'll be 150% scale, with bloated legs and retarded armor, it'll suck shit, and no one here will buy them. Nothing will ever top 5e BretonniSOVL>>98326702There is one (1) chaos warrior in base contact so one (1) chaos warriors gets to fight. Or maybe two, hard to see from this angle.
>>98327103Fat amerisharts are trying to ban it. There is drama going on.
>>98327098>FAQ isn't exactly promising in terms of their awareness of the state of the gameThey fixed peg knight faggotry and they made underperforming infantry more viable with Furious Charge + Press of Battle. I wish they'd do more to make the Magic Phase interesting and less shrimplified, but otherwise, they're doing rather well.>>98327103I only use one cannon because I'm not a faggot or a dorf, and cannons SHOULD auto-hit. We know the path they travel because of how they work, so missing is not an excuse, which implies somehow units were getting hit by fucking cannonballs, not taking wounds, yet also not stopping the cannonball which just hit them in the fucking chest. It just made no sense. And I don't care if you're a poncey elf, you're not dodging a cannonball mid-battle.
>>98327139>I'm not a faggot >or a dorfOne in the same.
>>98327139>the magic phaseThere is no magic phase, anon. That's the whole problem! Spreading spells out throughout the turn was a horrible idea!
>>98327160In some respects it's better, but it's made magic feel less special and more like artillery, just another tool on the field.
I think I ended up with a fairly okay way to paint those quickly while keeping the same color scheme as the infernal guard ones.
>>98326664>>98326670I sure hope beastmen will get a new line of models
>>98326702Yes, cancel your pre order faggot and kill yourself while you're at it
>>98327177Dwarf proportions just do not look good when they’re trying to brace a gun
In light of the recent FAQ, a struggle for dominance has erupted in my warband. The disgraced laughing stock of a sorcerer "lord", Alvis the All-Seeing, who was condemned and humiliated by the dark gods for failing to cast a single spell over five games, has returned from his long exile to attempt to unseat Dehumanizer, the terrible (pejorative) daemon prince, most famously known for taking three rounds of combat (while wielding the Ogre Blade) to kill a single measly empire hero and also getting sent screaming back to the Realm of Chaos by a single cast of Viletide, who ousted Alvis from power long ago.If only they could both lose!
>>98327114> Then, probably a Bretonnia refresh but only for the knight units, and just like the Foot Knights, they'll be 150% scale, with bloated legs and retarded armor, it'll suck shit, there is reason to hope that the new errant/realm/questing/grail will actually be good looking modelsthe lord, paladin and stander bearer that were released alongside the foot knights were actually well designed and looked like 5th/6th ed classical bretonnians that you long for
>>98327199I love the lore that comes from playing games.
>>98327199While I have no doubt Alvis probably buggered up a lot, the DP absolutely struggling to kill a hedo with the Ogre Blade is something else. I hope Alvis wins. Will you get them to duel?
>>98326652Chunky skeletons are better then the thinner ones. Those thin ones are a pain to get off the sprue and lean up; I shaved so much off them.
>>98326782You're standing here basically admitting you can't follow basic logic and/or speak simple English, I'm pretty sure I'm not the one coming off as retarded anon.Literally my point is that modern GW don't care if a Dark Eldar box sells more than Space Marines in-aggregate. They care if THIS Dark Eldar release would sell more than a specific Space Marine release at the exact same moment in time. Of course Marines outsell DEldar, they outsell everything, but there are still a finite number of times per year GW can release Space Marines in a given weekend and have THAT RELEASE make money, at which point they look at other things they could sell instead and at that stage, all that matters is whether THAT RELEASE will make money.Nobody's arguing there are enough WElf or TK players to make them a top-tier army for sales in the long term. Nobody's saying a WElf vs TK army box is going to outsell a 40K starter box. The argument is purely that once GW are looking at the slots between big releases, at the periods where they've already stuffed the paypiggies with as many little Space Marine men as they possibly can for the moment and they look at other things to sell in those slots, all that matters to them is whether Given Thing will make money IN THAT SLOT, not its long-term prospects, not its level of community engagement, not its overall playerbase. Purely whether any given box will make back what they spent to produce it plus their preferred profit margin. That's it.Do you understand yet, or do you need to me to find a pre-K youtuber to explain it to you in babytalk, you fucking cretinous buffoon?
>>98327180best you're going to get is some plastic kits for resin shit and maybe an aos reinvention around morghur
>>98327296I'm not gonna read all of that.GW release more products for popular armies because it makes them more money and that's all there is to it.
>>98327199How. On both counts.
>>98327199FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
>>98327307>an aos reinventionlolAoS is on death row.
>>98327296Correct and smart>>98327308Ignorant and retarded
>>98327345sure thing buddy
>>98327307>>98327343Give each other a handshake and make up
>>98327291Then buy the chunky ones and don't bitch if they make new thinner ones. A lot of the people who argue against new models seem genuinely mentally retarded in that they seem to think that the new models will retroactively replace their old ones.
>>98327199First, if anyone else wants to re-create this (absolutely not historic) battle, Alvis is a Sorcerer Lord, level 4, riding a Daemonic Mount and using the lore of Daemonology with the Rod of the Damned, Lore Familiar, Power Scroll, 2x Favour(s) of the Gods. Spells: Gathering Darkness, Daemonic Familiars, Daemonic Vessel, Daemonic Vigour.Dehumanizer is a Daemon Prince, level 1, using the lore of Battle Magic with the Ogre Blade, Armour of Meteoric Iron, 1x Favour(s) of the Gods, Extra Arm. Spell: Hammerhand.Place both models 25" away from each other and roll-off to determine who takes the first turn. Now then, to recant this tale...With a roll of 4, Dehumanizer takes the first turn! The gods, deigning to watch this pathetic display (and secretly hoping they would at least be somewhat amused...), saw fit to bless Dehumanizer with greater knowledge of the ways of war, increasing his weapon skill by 1. Not fearing the pathetic creature daring to stand before him, Dehumanizer doesn't dally and swoops in close by flying double time. He fears not Alvis' sorcerous "might"!Alvis, for his part, begins by reciting nought but the foulest incantations. First, a prayer to the pantheon as a whole. A prayer that was met with a resounding roar from the heavens: The gods were with Alvis this day, and his Leadership and Strength values increased by 1! Following this fortuitous blessing, he attempts to cast Daemonic Vessel and barely manages to stir the winds enough to heed his call! Emitting peals of horrifying laughter, Dehumanizer attempts to dispel the paltry sorcerer's cast and fails utterly! Bolstered by the winds of magic, Alvis' mutated and deformed body bulges with newfound vigour and strength, but will it be enough?
>>98327362Once more, he shrieks out towards the sky in an attempt to curry favour with his gods as he casts Daemonic Vigour, yet his gods do not listen! Failure, so often the mark of his time in the service of the gods, greets Alvis once again! Enraged, he attempts one final expenditure of sorcerous power, a spell that will befuddle and slow his foe, Gathering Darkness... and fails yet again! Seething with barely restrained anger, Alvis does the only thing he still can: He barks a command at his daemonic mount, a reminder of when the gods he served still saw fit to reward his grim deeds, and bursts forward in a cacophany of beating hooves and hurled invectives. He will either send Dehumanizer back from whence he came and reclaim his warband or he will die trying! The daemon prince, who had spent the last several seconds shrieking his pleasure at watching this puny mortal fail again and again, stood his ground. He wouldn't even use this sorcerer's skull to drink the blood of a worthier foe, for surely to drink from the braincase of such an imbecile would sour even the finest claret.Despite being emboldened by the speed bequeathed to him by his (very bored-looking) mount, both slaves to darkness struck simultaneously! Half-whispering, half-screaming, Alvis called upon his gods one final time, desperately pleading for aid in this great battle. With a barely-perceptible breeze, minuscule daemons flit forth from the sleeves of his robe to harry and nibble on Dehumanizer's biomechanical form. Five daemonlings' teeth and claws find their mark, but only one bites hard enough to hurt, miraculously bypassing the dread daemon prince's chaotic protections and inflicting a single wound! For his part, Alvis swung, clawed, bit, and even spat at his foe: No effort was spared! Yet every last one of his pathetic flailings were either evaded or parried with little effort from the great Dehumanizer.
>>98327360temporarily embarrassed tomb kings players, essentially
>>98327362>alvis buffing up>pic related
>>98327343I doubt that, besides the two games sustain each other, unlike 40k and HHif one falls the other is likely to follow and viceversa, the success of one helps the other
>>98327370Now would be the time of Alvis' reckoning. All who stood and watched knew this: A daemon prince is not a foe to be trifled with. Despite Alvis' drawing of first blood, the minor irritation of a mere flesh wound was no deterrent to an immortal monster. Casually, without a care in this world or the next, Dehumanizer battered the pitiable (or perhaps not so pitiable, for Alvis was a villain in his own right) sorcerer. Six times, Dehumanizer struck with an oddly-shaped weapon. Thrice did his weapon find its mark and thrice did it draw blood. And what blood it drew, for the accursed blade struck with such force that each wound inflicted was cavernous and gaping in the extreme, easily bypassing any mundane protection Alvis may have had. He would have to pray for the gods to save him now.The only response to his desperate prayer was the hollow laughter of uncaring gods. Of the seven wounds Dehumanizer inflicted upon him, all but four were deflected by the mysterious energy that guarded the sorcerer. Alvis, born as nothing more than the blind son of a butcher from Altdorf, later earning the epithet of the All-Seeing, now saw nothing at all once more. Yet now, 'twas not merely his sight of which he was robbed. His last thought was not of the fleeting glory he had earned in service of the gods. His last thought was of the home, the family, and the life of sanity and happiness he had forsaken long, long ago.Alvis drew his last breath with a disgustingly toothy smile slashing across the amorphous white lump that was his visage, somehow spared the savaging that wracked and ruined the rest of his body, regretting absolutely nothing.
>>98327374>if one falls the other is likely to follow and viceversaHaha, once the diseased tick that is AoS shrivels up and dies TOW will become stronger than ever.
>>98327360I'm confused. I wasn't bitching, I was providing my experience with both kinds of skeletons. I'm not against new models, I'm against frail spindly bits that are a pain to work with.
>>98327381Poor Alvis. Dude deserved better. Well, a bit unfair too as Dehumanizer got a buff from the Gods of GW.
>>98327374>the two games sustain each other, unlike 40k and HHThe only reason that doesn't occur in 40k/HH is due to GW's own decision
>>98327390To clarify, I used the pre-FAQ unit profiles for this duel.
>>98327397Not a big deal, still a demi god facing a juiced up gooey humie. I hope Alvis returns and Dehumaniser decides to murder others besides his fellow chaos worshippers.
>>98327391No, it's different here, fantasy units are way more interchangeable than sci fi units.A good kit for human soldiers can get used just fine by an aos player who wants a proxy for a swordman, and viceversa, meanwhile the marines between the two games aren't as equivalent and there's much more autism regarding what a weapon can reasonably count as.There are exceptions, and if gw decided to heavily hit tow by not even granting it legacy rules it would definitely feel way tighter, but it'd still be way easier to cross pollinate the two ranges.
They won't release a digital version of the new Rulebook, will they?
>>98327103In what way do they ignore regens? and they only auto hit behemoths, that’s very dumb I’ll agree

>21 pieces for 1 infantry sized modeljust...why?
>>98327747'Cause it's cool and looks good. You a fag or something?
>>98327747Because people keep buying models designed like that. The model being 21 pieces, or expensive, or ugly or whatever is not enough of an obstacle to sales. So the company has no incentive whatsoever to change anything.

>>98328305Do the new chaos warriors & marauders have women tho?Not counting the chainmaker lady she is a named character

>>98328317no, it doesn't seem like warriors have any helmetless head either, other than the sorcerer
>>98328305I mean lets be honest, SEXO
I have LONG said that a scoring unit must be the following> Above US 10> Close or Open order ONLY> Must have a banner (a unit with a BSB attached will count, the rare hero BSB on a monster that is somehow US 10 will count, I think it literally only applies to like a Stonehorn or something)There. Now your game is better. You want your min strength deck sitter to camp? Well you better position or protect them, because if something gets into them, you just lost 50 points (unless you are a Bretonnian player, who continues to have just about the best infantry in the game).Another one of my objectively correct ideas is that tOW needs to use the HH WS chart (so lower WS automatically hits on 5s). Elf fragility is almost instantly solved. Suddenly more elite armies feel more elite, and horde armies are more like hordes.
>>98328305Imagine what the beastmen would do to her if they caught her. Or the orcs
>>98328305New marauders not having women really gives me a lot of hope they won’t go full retard

>>98328340The HH WS chart would skew the game massively at the moment, you'd need a lot of profile revisions
>>98328364No, the game would be fine as is.Every WS 4 infantry or cav model already massively overpays so it's fine.I might consider having vet state troops get WS4, and all gobbos need WS2.

I'm kind of tempted to buy a Tomb Kings starter for 170EUR and try to sell the old rulebook and Bone Dragon and keep the rest for Battle March. Is this reasonable? I know the units included are very basic but thanks to ancient sculpts it should be easy to convert and kitbash whatever I want.
>>98328423Who would buy the old rulebook?
>>98328305While id rather female models not appear in melee units at all, it might be ok if they want to introduce new all female units with rules that make sense. but adding females to all male melee units they can fuck off with that bullshit.

There are 60 peasants in the bret core box and 15 knights + 1 lord. Obviously the bulk of the peasants will be painted in the lord's colors. Half, let's say. I'm thinking I'll split (painting wise) the remaining 30 into 5 groups of 6 peasants with each group painted in a knight champion's colors, a knight standard bearer's colors, and one peg knight's colors.
>>98327200I don't understand why the quality of the models designing is all over the place in this gameBret foot knights look like thay could be sold as toys for 5 year olds but the lord on pegasus and the great banner bearer look fine and a good update to the traditional bretonnian lookCathay models look like something out of a Korean/Chinese MMO or even some gacha game but the Chaos marauders, warriors and knights are incredibly goodAre there really several teams with such different teams working on TOW ?
>>98329008Wait shit maybe I want some of the knights/knights command to be in the lord's colors. Obviously I'll need to draft a backstory on each dude before I can decide whether he's part of a retinue or has his own.

Its all, been fairly consistent. I think people are just begging for something new/validation for their armies.

>>98329413Well, I definitely remember it from the Warriors of the Chaos Wastes compilation book, which contains Wulfrik, Palace of the Plague Lord, and Blood for the Blood God. From what I remember there's a relatively graphic description of a town getting sacked in the Wulfrik novel, but specifically for rape I remember that one of the other two novels, Plague Lord of Blood God, had that explicitly mentioned in the main character's dialogue, "helping ourselves to southling women" or some such. That's as good as I can do without flipping through a few hundred pages. Out of the three, Wulfrik is the worst. The other two are both pretty good, and are some of my preferred depictions of Chaos-worshipping humans in Warhammer. CL Werner does a remarkably good job with his Chaos POV novels, in my opinion. I know it's genre lit of middling quality, but he gets it right. The Chaos societies that he describes actually feel like real cultures, with traditions and laws that are despicable but not cartoonish. They have artisans, marriages, festivals, and they also happen to worship Chaos. His characters have emotions, and act like people, just very cruel people in cruel societies. (Which might make their cruelty all the worse, compared to a dumb fucking orc or whatever) It's the kind of evil that feels more real, compared to when I read Malus Darkblade or something that seems too impossibly pants-on-head retardedly evil of a society to stay running.
>>98327381Guess Alvis' soul will have to wander the Chaos Realms until he can concot another scheme
>>98327381Just as planned.
>>98329214Actually he's thinking of the skarsnik novel.
>>98329729Not him but nice to see another person who read CL Werner's Chaos novels. He is by far the best writer for them. Blood for the Blood God was my favourite with the best ending. Though supposedly there are two endings, but the one I read saw the MC face off with the antagonist. Just wish the Plague Lord novel had a better ending. Tzeentch is a prick. The rest was amazing, showing the limitless geometry and geography of the realm of chaos.

>>98329034I disagree on the Cathay. They don’t look like something out of a Korean game at all. You should look at the actual designs those games use. Cathay is very much historically inspired. The only really shit aesthetically releases for tow have been the foot knights and the half ogre empire named character
>>98330344>You should look at the actual designs those games useThe designs are still horrible and do not run parallel with Warhammer. Historical influence or not, it does not mean it’s good. The turtles necks for example, are just about the ugliest fucking things about jade warriors. Maybe you could get away with them on the lancers, but for the infantry they just look like shit. The weapon designs are also forgettable, although maybe that’s a side efffect of being true scale while every other releases has attempted to be heoric scale for tow.
>>98330352I really don’t think they look like shit, but to each their own. Clearly your opinion is in the minority with how popular Cathay is, I and many other appreciate how the design team mixed cultural, fantasy and historical elements in the designs.

Lords of the Lance had the female pegasus knights use bows, for instance. And on the topic of the total war version, it still doesn't have skirmishers or exile units. >>98332723>6e/TOW Bretonnia is stripped of all subtlety and nuance5e bretonnia does not have any subtlety and nuance to lose. It was the flattest and least interesting element you could have in a setting, outdone in complexity and grit by the generic kingdom from any given disney fairy-tale
>>98332675Giving a small keep and land to a guy who took up arms and defend a village against orcs or a troll so he can keep defending the village works very well. That's how things worked in the first place.
>>98332741>That's how things worked in the first place.Yes, back in the early post roman-collapse when europe devolved into warlordism and "guy with armor and spear" was enough to make yourself the local ruler for a village. And then these guys with armor and spear established the feudal system and things got much more stable. It does not work once you have kingdoms and established hierarchies in place, and the local peasant armed with a stick and a bucket for a hat isnt going to be made the local governor. Villages do not come with empty castles theyre just struggling to fill. Land is not just sitting there waiting to be claimed. If there is a castle somewhere its because someone built it, that someone lives in that castle, and has clearly got a LOT of resources because castles are fucking expensive to build and maintain. That guy has those resources because he has a position of authority, and his family have likely had that position of authority for a very long time. And he isnt going to be interested in handing it over because the local harlot decided her boyfriend should go kill some wolves for her.
>>98332767I hate people who half think shit and force me to spell everything to them. Especially when it has already happened in history so it's already all there to read and understand.

>>98332788and then they die because lances are the worst thing you could possibly use against a troll
>>98332767This is without even getting to things like>the fairest maiden in any given village is one quest away from becoming a landed lady Which is just fucking hilarious. This power of station isnt even something like "the king has placed a bounty on the dreaded beast of chateau-giscard, the man to bring him the monsters head will be allowed to keep the castle".Emma the 7/10 butchers daughter can just decide that whoever retrieves her stolen underwear is now a minor noble in the feudal hierarchy. You could of course "steelman" the whole mess by suggesting that this knighthood is functionally purely ceremonial, and that it means fuck all and confers no lands or proper authority. But even that is ridiculous. And the alternative, where it isnt just one big farce (in universe, its one outside of it regardless) is unthinkable. "sorry lady suchandsuch, but the new lady is darcy the weaver because she was voted most fuckable by the villagers and she asked that someone kill the local troll, so theres now a new local knight and lady and they kinda need your castle, do you mind moving out by the fortnight?"
>>98332767You're screaming at clouds. The fluff those anons are talking about is from 5e's early knightly history, before there were any real lines of nobility. The first peasants who became knights would become landed. Castles would eventually be built. The landed knights are tasked with defense of their land. If they died with no heir, a new peasant could rise up to knighthood. The villages chose the peasant defender by giving him portions of their food so he grew up big and strong. In later years of history when the land was all carved up this process would just make knights errant, not immediately landed lords, and the newly knighted would have to prove themselves before taking land or higher title.Or at least that's the gist of it. Been a while since I read the army book. Maybe I'll reread it later tonight, inspired by this thread.
>>98332788wrong pic btw
>>98332826Anon I am talking about the lore in the image, the one that says they still practice that stuff.Yea, obviously in the days of tribal villages the first knights would simply be the primitive warriors capable of enforcing their will through "I have weapons and armor".

>>98332826>In later years of history when the land was all carved up this process would just make knights errantSo, which villagers feel like donating the armor? Theres a reason people didnt just decide they were knights actually irl. Being a knight is expensive.

>>98332767I don't know how big you think castles were in the middle ages but the overwhelming majority of them, for the local nobles, were just a small wooden tower. And most nobles were just living with the peasants. There's been an infinity of nobles because the vast majority of them were just poorfags who just had priority on what game to hunt in the surrounding woods and some food/money from the nearby village of 50 people, part of which he had to send to an actual ruling noble.

>>98333073>there's no notion of fucking expensive or time consuming because nothing is fucking competing for people's time, there's no productivity, there's no industry or giant permanent market.Oh god youre a moron. No, people did not sit around doing nothing under Samuel P.Jobs invented the concept of "work" in 1873. Peasants spent their time working, because everything was work that needed to be done and they lacked the modern time saving tools we have to do it for us. Even once you finished doing your "job" (the thing you are obligated to do for your lord and which is your main source of income) as we would understand it (farmwork for the most part, which isnt easy no matter how many idyllic fantasies you have), your work was not finished. You would chop firewood for your house, clean, do the laundry, fetch water, feed the animals, repair the fence, repair the roof, fix your tools, move your produce, do whatever you did as a "side gig" to support yourself because youre a dirt poor peasant, rest (because - and this may shock someone as brain rotted with revisionism as you - farm labor is hard work). The medieval peasant did not sit around with literally nothing better to do, to the point that he would willingly build enormous structures for free on his off-time. There is a reason villagers lived in hovels and huts and not towers. There was ALWAYS something that would and could compete for their labor, and there was ALWAYS a motivation needed to provide this labor. Castles were not built on goodwill. The construction of a keep or tower or whatever "small" fortification you want to try and move the goalposts towards was also not "a couple of guys got together and did this in their free time". Its a planned top down project that requires skilled craftsmen and lots of different tools, resources and planning. You would get engineers and architects, land surveyors and organizers. These skilled workers would in turn require compensation for doing their job.

>>98333165>No.Thats cute. You pointed to their legal required time of work as if it matters. Because you fundamentally dont understand what is being talked about. >>98333191> legal required time>bro thinks peasant had shiftsYou might be extremely retarded but at least you're funny.
>>98333207Anon what do you think "holiday" means? Do you think peasants just worked whenever they felt like it and those days were just days when they didnt feel like it? I know youre retarded, but surely even you arent that stupid. Peasants had to work for their lord, and there were limits on how hard a local lord could work his peasants.
akchually villagers in rural areas would be expected to help out with town projects, with the most obvious example being the harvest of the farms in the area. they would often not be paid money for this aid, but they'd get some of the harvest, goodwill, and the help of the neighbors for harvesting their own fields. similarly they would also help with construction projects in town. this doesn't mean everyone in town would be expected to be a mason or carpenter, but they'd help out in a way they could so that the town could rest easy knowing that the construction would finish before harvest/winter/whatever seasonal deadline they had. but the point in this post >>98332933 that I think should be highlighted is that towns would put up what defenses they could or thought was necessary with poorer or less capable towns ending up with shittier and less sturdy towers or palisades. in warhammer world they'd definitely want something up and it seems like the knight in the village would be in charge of manning it even if it was not a structure he could live in. while trying to be objective i don't think this is an unreasonable interpretation at all

But it seems kinda tonally discordant to have a faction based on chivalry, honor and knightly virtue be more oppressive and cruel than the real world analog.
Archaon is lamer than Skeletor. His artifacts make him so overpowered that nothing in the setting is a threat to him, he's like Hot Topic faggot Superman but without even the Kryptonite element to give him some suspense. He just auto-wins no matter what. He never makes plans, he never has to strategize, he just walks in and murders everything and wins. Fucking Grimgor is more interesting of a character, at least he's entertaining sometimes. Rey from TFA level Mary Sue faggot. I wish Storm of Chaos was canon just so Archaon could be humbled for once and have to lick his wounds, reassert himself over his hordes, or otherwise re-strategize, just SOMETHING to give this lame faggot some depth.
>>98333908Still better written than Abaddon over in 40k.
>>98333885>I would learn more towards the psuedo-historical Authurian stuff personally.Based.>But it seems kinda tonally discordant to have a faction based on chivalry, honor and knightly virtue be more oppressive and cruel than the real world analog. All of it stems from bong-frog animosity. Stillman handled it tactfully by blending the HYW "proud French knights with professional footmen" background and aesthetic with Arthurianism as you pointed out, but Anthony Reynolds fucked that all up in 6e and went full retard with "LOL the French R smelly xDD," which—what a surprise—does not make for an interesting faction. I have no idea how or why GW would sign off on making what is effectively an /int/ shitpost into the official lore for a faction they are actively trying to sell, or allow it to inform the design of those models by actively making them shittier. It's no small mystery Bretonnia shit itself and died after 6e.
>>98333940Just look at the difference in the art between these two editions, and you'll see my point.5e...
>>98333948...and 6e.
>>98333948>>98333949The shift from 5th to 6th was pretty dramatic for the whole franchise. The 5th ed rulebook was full of these bright, colorful little illustrations showing silly things happening in the margins, marginally related to the rules on their page.
Then 6th ed came out and it's like GW hit its edgy 90s phase just as the 90s were leaving and it was all gritty, dirty-looking art all the time. And I don't hate it. I got into Warhammer in 6th ed, so Karl Kopinski's art is the most defining to me. But I can see how that huge shift in aesthetic from silly and colorful with a slight edge to Tolkien but GRIMDARK would put some people off. Alas, 40k was outselling Fantasy and GW thought by going as grimdark as the 41st millennium they could catch some of those sales.
>>98333604Spider rider spiders fit on the same bases as dire wolves and it doesn't take much to cover up where the rider would sit with greenstuffI really like WGA's spiders but they're a bit too wide so you'd have to use them as swarms or unit fillers
>>98333984My feelings on this are mixed. I love 5e cartoony Warhammer and feel it's the trve spirit of Warhammer (>>98333972), but I also enjoy Mordheim and Vermintide and Barony of the Damned, which are Blanche-esque grimdark to the max. I think I prefer the grimdark tone but the cartoony style, if that makes sense, which I think Vermintide specifically does a fantastic job of getting across. My main issue with 6e-TOW Bretonnia isn't that it's dark and edgy, it's that the models look like total fucking shit.
