What's your favourite weapon design in the game?
What's your least favourite weapon design in the game?
Can be anything from a stabba stick to ghal maraz
>>
>What's your favourite weapon design in the game?
Tie between drekkis duck foot gun or the auric flamekeepers axe.
honorable mention to the scions of flame with their flamberge.
>What's your least favourite weapon design in the game?
Im in a love hate relationship with karirics swords because sometimes they look cartoony other times they dont look as bad as I remember them thing. Anyways the flails the fyreslayers have are the absolute fucking worse. I never knew why dwarves shouldnt havev flails until I saw them.

Side note, but man I really hope the weapons for new duaradin are still comically big, I'll give fyreslayers shit any day of the week but big flaming axes is cool as shit and draws me in more than dwarves in fb ever did.
>>
>>98362449
>TQ
I like a lot of simple weapon designes, from Kritza's sword to Snatchaboss' chain so it's hard to pick one but I can easily pick the worst sort and it is every stabba weapon, bar the net. So fucking wide for compared to the model
>>
>>98362476
>Anyways the flails the fyreslayers have are the absolute fucking worse. I never knew why dwarves shouldnt havev flails until I saw them.
Oh yeah those bother me too. Just looks like ass
>>
How are Stalkers, Reapers and Archers in OBR? I really, really like those models but if taking them is the equivilant to throwing I'll keep putting it off
>>
>>98362494
archers are good
reapers are fine but you probably dont want more than 2 boxes of them
stalkers idk.

I'm a sucker for a good mace/maul.

I don't hate the CoS weaponry, but it's just...generic isn't right. It's all just sword and board, which is cool, but the variety of designs in shit like the swords is majorly lacking.

We need more fist weapons and dumb shit like the Ogor's Ironfists and BoK's Goreglaive/Gorefist.
>>
>>98362515
>BoK's Goreglaive/Gorefist.
This is honestly the best thing blades of khorne has cemented for me. Shields that look brutalistic and can be leveraged for offense.

How are NH for a "growing" AOS campaign? We are a new group, no one played AOS before, except one guy who wants to run the campaign. I was thinking about taking NH for my faction, but not sure what models box to take (I know myself - I should take small separate boxes, one at a time, if I'll take a big one like the Spearhead, it will be buried in my pile of shame).
So, really my questions are - what are pros\cons of NH in this situation? And what box should I take first? Thank you
>>
>>98362633
NH has great models but their rules and profiles suck ass thanks to their battletome, so just go for the models you like I guess.
>>
>>98362638
Thank you. So after your answer I did some research, and found site aos-events. NH there at absolute mid of winrate with 50% +\-. I guess that's a tournament scene only? NH shown as not very popular too.
Another fun Death faction - Flesh-Courts - in a very interesting place - high winrate and very low popularity.
>>
So taking a Warmaster means you can't use a heroic trait right?
>>
Duaradin would be narratively better if they spoke in southern drawl.
>>
>>98362669
Sounds like an acceptable win rate to me, given you're probably not going to be playing tournaments anyway. As long as you and your opponent are having a good time it doesn't matter if you win, unless you're the type of guy who just likes to win. Which I won't even knock you for that. If that's how you have your fun then by all means.
>>
>>98362677

>>
>>98362691
sadly ironguts are mostly monopose. The champion has some options, so I guess its sort of fine if you're just reinforcing just one block of them. Curious to know if any parts are interchangeable. Overall looks easy to assemble though.

>>
>>98362698
nah
>>
Maybe they're hissing the "s"?
>>
>>98362678
I prefer 50\50 results and close matches, not win every time, not lose every time. That way everyone involved is happy. So 50% NH from aos-events is just in the right place, I think.
But it doesn't correlate with the "profiles suck ass" comment - if their profiles are bad, something else should give them that 50% WR? And first models may be important?
Also, if you don't mind me asking, why Flesh-Courts in such a strange place - usually strong factions (and they has good WR according to the site) are at least somehow popular, but these aren't at all, according to the stats. Do you know why, maybe?

Skimmed a bit, tyrant also has another helmeted option
Ironguts all have helmeted options, but unfortunatelybonly one extra weapon from what we've already seen
Gluttons all have helmeted and bare head options. As for weapons it looks like they have 5 maces, 5 swords, 5 right handed ironfists, and 3 left handed ironfists. That is in addition to the two handed mace each kit gets. Annoyingly all the maces are right handed and all the swords left handed, so you can't dual wield the same weapon. You can make at least 3 dual wielded ironfists per kit though, I know there was one anon here curious about that. All the weapons look fully interchangeable between kits, and in general they look pretty easy to assemble

overall new ogors are looking overall easy to work with. Might start painting up again with them. Worst case scenario I just end up playing spearhead.
>>
>>98362733
You can build the champion Irongut as a regular Irongut, that's it unfortunately.
Interestingly all the helms are a bit you place on top of bald heads. I've never seen that in a kit, it's kind of adorable and let's you use them as decorative bits
>>
>>98362764
These are really cool, however, I don't think they are fat enough.
You should sculpt a new belly / gut plate
>>
>>98362854
>>
Thankfully the legs, though not the saddle, are detached on mawbeasts so you can easily slap the riders on Stonehorns
>>
>>98362854
Yeah I thought it was interesting too. I think the new gallants have something kind of like that but it wasn't 100% the same.
Shame about the ironguts being so monopose though, only one extra build is a bit disappointing. I think these new ogres will be reasonably easy to do conversion work with, but still. You shouldn't have to go through the trouble.
>>
>>98362721
Any idea on Flesh Courts state?
>>
If I wanted to run nagash, what army works best for him and what endless spell lore would work well?

I was undecided between doing nighthaunt or running slaanesh. I do already have khorne, so I could use slaanesh stuff in 40k as well.
>>
>>98362860
this is now the 6th kit where the riders arent sculpted onto the mount. Truly a revolution for modern warhammer sculpts.
>>
>>98362903
used to be OBR, now I think hes most comfortable in night haunt im pretty sure.
>>
>>98362912
You know of any spells that work well with him? The primal tree seems nice for some extra damage and distraction stuff, but morbid also seems neat for board control. I am assuming i just run some chain rasps supported by revanents
>>
>>98362869
Gallants and Cavaliers have faceplates pretty much, but with Ogors you can throw any helm on any bald head.

Least favourite probably goes to the skullreapers' (or whatever they're called) swords. I know it's warhammer and all, but at a certain point it really does become too much

However much they snort and scoff, ogors are canny. They understand our ways. And I’ll insist that as much as I have to, feed them as much as I have to, if it keeps them satisfied and away from our walls.’

I wasn't following the ogre design stuff but is this a bin guy tome? Eat em alive seems really bad because it's dependent on your unit having already actually fought something, the thing they fought surviving and is 1 choice per unit.

I can see the control one being good but a lot of the others are going to be meaningless because 1) the unit is already where you wanted it and 2) if it did its job the enemy unit is probably dead and 3) you're probably trading hammers so your unit is going away soon. Unless you can make some crazy defensive option with the -rend one, like maybe with guts?? >>98364663

Just seems like way too many hoops to jump through for a core army ability with mid-tier buffs.

Same deal with these. Why the fuck don't I get to rampage and do this? Why does my OPPONENT get free movement of his guys when I use this?

I read these army traits and am immediately demoralised.
>>
>>98364834
Eat em alive seems good, mind you I'm under the implication of guaranteed running Redd (I'll be honest ward aura, and his spell just flat out activating that shit in the hero phase is fantastic) alongside them. I think the buffs are solid and while you do have to be in combat first ogors got decent toughness and it seems like gluttons can work even if you're not doing the charging, with the buffs provided they can be tanky and if not it's a massive fuckoff block of wounds that actually output damage running into you.

And Ironguts I dunno, you still only get 3, yeah the save's better but you're also needing to stick them next to an infantry hero of some description.

>>98364860
Tbf that's implying any of the rampges available in this tome are worth a damn. (Except frostlord on stonehorn, that shit is bonkers)

These seem pretty garbo too. Free movement is always good but everything is so fucking conditional. Why not just ogor units that charged this turn, why does it have to be charged on a higher than average roll? Why within 9" of a battle edge AND didn't charge this turn?

Come on dude.
>>
>>98364885
Hinterland seems fine for the hunters who can deepstrike during placement, and they do enough damage on shoot and melee that I can see that being justified. Smash and grab is pretty boring, feast of bloodshed seems downright silly but I guess it rracks since the main gimmick here is big hits and bonking shit.

Grubs up i'll say seems the most solid, again especially with Reddit. The only shitty thing is Reddit seems so good it feels like most of the army was designed around him greasin' the wheels.

It's really that the enemy unit has to still be alive after your fight to trigger it. That's a brutal conditional downside.

The whole book appears to be like this so far, but I'm just on Morga. Just far too many conditional things, wholly within 6" instead of 12" on an army defined by its big bases, tons of restrictions that just weren't needed. The designer's note made me lose hope.
>>
>>98364927
I should probably ask since I'm getting into ogors here, I primarily play ghouls so big damage and the option to shoot is new to me. I'm assuming you've got more experience, other than the nonsense conditions how about the actual stats unit wise? A lot of what's on show seems fine.
>>
>>98364947
I don't play ogors currently so maybe it'll work out, IDK. I look at literally everything, including your tyrants, hitting on a 4+ and cringe. Abilities which have too many hoops to jump through for too little reward are nothing new to AoS, but I just feel for so much of what I'm reading they could have loosened the rope a little.

>WHFB "dies"
>Empire becomes Stormcast Eternals, divine forged armoured warriors from the high planes, using thunder hammers
>High Elves become Lumineth Realm-Lords: Greek elves fused with the Light magic, mastering magic & stone
>Wood elves became even more sylvan/wood like
>Other elves became Sea elves, using water magic and using sharks as mounts
>Dwarfs either became super slayers infused in literal fire; Or SteamPunk dwarfs
>And etc, etc.

>Seraphon Lore: Supposed to become Lizard Angels flying magical pyramids, imbued with star power, and weapons being from celestial energy.
>Reality: Seraphon are just WHFB Lizardmen, minis being upgraded from old 6th edition, but still Lizardmen from Old Mallus.
>Some of the Hero units give an very small feel of the supposed lore.
>This could work to be the Coalesced Seraphon...but not the other variant (Starborne)

So why bother playing Seraphon when I could play anything more original, like Lumineth lords? I like Mayan magical Lizardmen, but if I wanted that, I just play OldWorld or WHFB 9th. What the lore said is cool but the miniatures are not that. Why should I play Seraphon, when I could play something more original, like Lumineth Realm-Lords?
No, really question: Why should I play Seraphon over other cooler options?
And will GW ever do proper Starborne Seraphon?

>>
>>98364972
That's just Destro man, everything hits on 4's (with at least a few buff options to help there) and you do 2 damage. I dunno, I feel the opposite, I play so many factions where damage is pretty limited to just "THE BIG GUY" so having shit like 2 damage ranged attacks or basic infantry doing 2 damage with like 4 attacks a piece... WOOFTA that shit makes me happy.

The rules aren't all fantastic but I think a lot of the units make up for it, stat wise, individually there's quite a good bit here to see. Yeah there's a lot of conditional but I'll wait to see how often that comes into play when my brain goes into grug club mode.

because aztec sentient dinosaurs riding bigger dinosaurs while also occasionally shooting lasers out of magitek crystals was already a very high-fantasy* idea. Lizardmen, like skaven, didn't need an AoS makeover as they already fit in quite well. The order daemons of light thing was a bad idea, making it so your entire army is akshually just memories is /yourguys/ poison.

I think there's definitely a Mawseekers build because Redd seems like a more reliable way to activate your army trait than the actual trait and the Mawseeker units synergise and deal good damage. I think there might be a shooting build because some of the shooting units seem surprisingly powerful.

>>98364860
I don't know why you can't rampage with this but I like the rule. You choose which opponent you push and he have to choose if he wants mortals or staying where he is. And you get a pile-in after, so if he used full 3'' to run away you could persue or stay out of combat
>>
>>98365120
Haven't played 'em but built em and have done my research for cities at the very least. Cities is kind of... Big mixed forces thing, you get a little bit of everything : wizards, ranged, artilery, decent foot troops, decent chaff, 10 million named characters, monsters, cav, EVERYTHING.

They're primarily based around matching the right heroes with the right guys to buff them up, they seem the most like a traditional styled army in what you're operating with in most cases. They seem solid but complex in what you're doing and piloting will probably take a decent chunk of time to properly learn what to do, where, and why.

the point of aos wasn't to change things for the sake of changing them, it was to leave behind a setting that was deemed too restrictive and generic, and introduce fantasy marines

lizardmen weren't generic, so they remained as they were
and no, the current range is not the coalesced side and there's no starborne side coming, the models work for both, the starborne theme in particular gets well represented by a high-magic color scheme, while the coalesced by more natural patterns
>>
OK I think the Mawseeker AoR is so much more pushed than the other two it's really funny. Guess they want to move these units.

once you establish one side as the high-magic, high-tech and spacefaring one, while the other as the more naturalised, primal ones hidden inside jungles, it's natural to imagine a visual separation where the first are clean and bedecked in technology while the second are your more stereotypical savages covered in grisly trophies
but lizardmen work best when the two extremes are blended, and in any case they don't warrant 2 parallel ranges

>>98364972

>less than the damage

its counterintuitive but rolling less than the damage basically means the more damage it deals, the easier it is to roll. so the harder your ice blast hits the enemy, the more likely they are to freeze from it. its a wonky dice roll but it actually makes sense if you think about it for a second

its a little counterintuitive because you want to roll low, the lower the roll on the secondary effect the better, which is a bit goofy, you usually want high rolls for good effects, most people arent used to rolling a ice and looking for a 1 or 2 as a positive result

personally the effect is so mundane and the hit chance is 50/50 that i dont think a roll a dice to roll a dice situation was needed at all. maybe if it targeted every enemy unit in range or hit a big aoe, but its only a single target in a short range coming from a 300pt model. hoop after hoop after hoop. this design team has a bad tenency to get their heads too far up their asses with overly convoluted conditional nonsense

if you look at the army you'll sometimes see a difference in proportion, referred to in the community as fatcast (the old proportions) vs slimcast (the new proportions)

stick to slimcast and you should be fine. that said stormcast stats are all pretty similar so if theres a particular oldcast kit you like you should have no trouble just running it as another similar unit. the whole army is kind of just "big guy with plate armor and a shield"

as far as what to play and start with, stormcast have a couple builds but they usually prefer herohammer and more elite small units, often their dragon riders, big dragons, and other large base size characters are staples and you can find multiple different ones in a lot of army lists

if you get skaventide half, that will give you a good chunk of models for cheap. you can also pick up a dominion half for cheap or just yndrasta since she pairs well with prosecutors from skaventide

iridian and tornus have really cool models but unfortunately very lukewarm rules. i would start with ionus from your pic, or one of the dragon brothers as your big centerpiece, all 3 are good.

there is also a stormcast """horde""" build that runs multiple massive units of vanquishers (greatsword basic troop) and vigilors for a more boots on the ground army. but i think ionus from your picture and some stormdrake guard along with a skaventide half would probably be the most straightforward and cohesive start for you

pic related is an example of fatcast vs slimcast so you can start to differentiate them. most of the vanguard units are also fatcast despite still being sold. i would expect all the fatcast to leave within the next edition or so. spearhead and all the new stuff should be safe
>>
>>98366054
Still shocks me how both the far-left and far-right look great in their own way, but the center one is just awful. And it's probably all in the helmet.
>>
>>98365998
Anything 3rd edition and later (slimcast) is fine, the remaining 1st edition stuff is sketchier. They'll probably just refresh them for 5th edition instead of outright squat them like the 2nd edition guys, but better safe than sorry.
However like the other guy said most stormcast models are pretty interchangeable, if there's some sculpts you really like from 1st you can pick them up and even IF they get squatted there's probably a pretty easy proxy out there. Just don't base your whole army around 1st edition sculpts if you wanna stay safe
Also stay away from the celestant prime there's no fucking way that dude is making it to 5th

>>
>>98366188
Stormcast arent immune to being suggested by sigmars influence but they do still have the ability to disagree with him. I guess once they start dying a couple of times they do start being less morally grey and more automata.
>>
>>98366204
I dunno it's a weird thing where I don't think they're inherently evil since the whole shtick with being a stormcast is it burns any literal essence of evil out of you. And you can only be stormcast if you have some level of faith in you that you can be redeemed.
>>
>>98366188
How would that make them evil? Does he mean the process of stormcasting is evil? He'd have a better case arguing that, though still not a very good one.
>>
>>98365805
Idk about that. Why would they squat leadbelchers now and not next ed when they release their replacement? Because the hunters are meant to be the new ranged infantry. They probably kept the iron blaster/scraplauncher because they plan to release a new war machine more in line with the current army vision. Maybe some random beast with a bolt thrower on its back.
>>
So, how are Ogors from gameplay point of view? Dumbed down to someone who never played AOS, but thinking about trying it. How big (costly) their army is, what's their playstyle and how effective or ineffective they are?
Initially I was thinking about NH, but last time a checked their playstyle was a long time ago and apparently all of that changed drastically in this edition. It was especially funny watching a streamer (with a faction player) describing the new NH book - they, probably couldn't give their honest opinion, so there was a lot of mismatch in their verbal and non-verbal communication. Like "I am really excited to try this out" said with the face of a someone who died inside after reading these rules, or "so much fun" with the face that shows anything BUT fun. And that's understandable, I guess, when faction not just nerfed, but made in something completely different playstyle-wise. Anyway, NH are out for me, maybe next edition I'll look into them again.
>>
>>98366247
>Idk about that. Why would they squat leadbelchers now and not next ed when they release their replacement?
Because the leadbelcher kit is just the basic glutton one with an extra sprue thrown in. Can't keep em around if you wanna refresh gluttons (and ironguts)
Maneaters, meanwhile, have been set up as the gunpowder-tolerant arm of the faction, with a new character who looks more like a leadbelcher than a maneater. Rumourmongers have also implied a new maneater unit is coming later down the line (maybe EoE but more likely 5th). It stands to reason that they will follow the design cues of the new character, at least to some extent.
>>
>>98366248
We have the rules but right now it's speculation until games happen.

BUT from what I've read they seem like -

Pros: Hit like trucks, decent mobility, BIG HP, decent variety of units

Cons: Hit on 4's, saves are pretty garbo outside of a few buffs, very elite army so you'll have less units. (that can be a pro if you like dollar to point ratio)

The gameplan seems like you walk up and hit the guys and hope you don't get outpaced or the enemy has mega heavy anti infantry.

Also as a guy with a NH army, NH fucking blow right now. Even if the units are fine they've lost all flavor and are boring as fuck.
>>
>>98366248
move forward, hit with hammer

they are that easy. the most unga bunga turn your brain off army in the game and its not close. every guy has big damage, a lot of health, and not much else. the new book has slightly more for the magic department of the army but it is still fundamentally just a wall of big guys with big weapons hitting things. the army does what it says on the tin and its not ambiguous about it

effectivelynes varies patch to patch but they are usually middle of the road. enough of a stat check to never be truly at the bottom, but not enough tricks to ever be obscenely broken

nighthaunt have a long and storied history of extremely convoluted rules or having their army subverted by staple on patches like the old infamous legions of nagash FAQ

Thank you. Yeah, with the dollar-to-points ratio, having fewer units is actually a plus for me. And the Ogors' playstyle sounds really appealing.

Do you think the new Army Set would be a good starting point? Or would I be too limited if I only used the new sculpts? From what I've seen, the old and new sculpts don't really blend well together. And it'll probably take a long time before enough new miniatures are released to build a full army using only the new range?
>>
>>98366409
>Do you think the new Army Set would be a good starting point?

Unironically probably the best starting set for an army (because it's basically just the old vanguard minus the cannon)

You got about 1k points of models so literally half your army, reinforced block of your most basic foot guys, foot hero, defense squad for foot hero, and some cav. Gives you room to grow and decide where you wanna move out from.
>>
>>98366405
they're buff and have melee weapons instead of feeble ranged weapons or just being wizards which is what matters. The reeeing at the mention of rubric marines with power khopeshes has held thousand sons back from being anything more than a two note tzaangors and dust guys army.
>>
>>98366437
>they're buff and have melee weapons
just like any other tzeentch cultist unit before them
>>
>>98366421
Yeah, it's probably going to be pretty expensive but in terms of points you get a good amount for your money.
Then you can decided what you want to do with the other half of your points; fot example if we get that mawseeker spearhead in box form I reckon that + reddit will basically get your 2k points. Or you could go into beastclaw; get more ironguts and gluttons; get a mounted tyrant instead, ... whatever you want. Only really missing the potential maneater gunpowder stuff and firebellies
>>
>>98366471
firebelly*

Honestly if a firebelly comes back I'd expect it as an underworlds warband. Though it's been a bit since GW has done the "1 big guy, a bunch of little shitters" warbands.
>>
>>98366317
>>98366335
I disagree ogres are a stat check army. Everything outside the bulls is pretty fragile for the points and the bulls have a mid save at best. Only Redd has a good wheel out of all the characters. They do hit hard but you absolutely need your +1 to hit modifier to not whiff so wizards (for your unlimited spell) or the hunter (for shooting builds) are absolutely necessary. The advantage of high wound counts on individual models is you get chunked less by chip damage, but no damage-dealing unit in the game is going to worry about clearing 12 wounds on a 4+ or worse save for stuff like your ironguts or cleavers.
>>
>>98366409
nothing in that army set is redundant so if you wanted to you could even buy it twice if you get it for a good price. the book might kill the savings on a second box unless you resell the extra tome on ebay or something by itself.
>>
>>98366568
2 foot tyrants 20 bulls 6 ironguts and 4 lizard dog cavalry is going to be an awful army anon. Do not buy the box twice.
>>
>>98366590
I MEAN, would it be...? Yeah some ranged stuff and a wizard wouldn't be that bad.
>>
>>98366590
lol no it would not be at all.

bulls are massive troops with tons of health and damage, ironguts give you a hard hitting small footprint 4+5+++ with the tyrants who are now desirable in 2s with how big names got reworked, and the new dog cav are very good

that would definitely be a playable army and probably pretty good with 1 or 2 addons in the support department. its a very solid meat and potatoes collection to start
>>
>>98366590
>2 foot tyrants
Honestly wouldn’t be that
>20 bulls
I don’t think that’s an unhealthy amount to have
>6 ironguts

>4 lizard dog

>>
>>98366637
You are either fucking retarded or a literal paid games workshop shill. You want MAYBE 1 Tyrant for Neck-Wringer as a flex pick, you definitely do not want a second Tyrant at all. You probably aren’t running Ironguts or the cavalry at all until they come down in price. You NEED a wizard in this army.

One army box is fine. 2 is a huge waste. But the stuff you’re actually going to play instead.
>>
>>98366188
>sigmar giving his soldiers gay conversion therapy
that's amazing. stormcast are forcibly enslaved and sort of brainwashed, but they're hardly evil. There's no major infighting like with the imperium and they generally get sent to protect civilians and work as the vanguard of a mostly CoS force. AoS is way less "grimdark" than 40k and Stormcast don't have much moral greyness to them. If the writers wanted to turn the cities into the imperium as a dictatorship where the super soldiers stomp out dissent then they could, but it really doesn't read that way currently.
>>
>>98363296
>skinnier but healthier looking
It makes sense that a guy who gets fed a fixed diet of nutritional military rations is taller than the guy who just eats whatever he comes across.

>>
>>98366667

>>
>>98366901
You’ll already have a spearhead set so it’s playable from the get go. Just play with that and if you really like it you can get another spearhead relatively soon with the new mawseekers and butcher and you can juggle between the two. By the time you’re done painting/playing/ with both of those the meta will be settled and there will be a much more better consensus of the feel of the faction.
>>

>>
>>98367614
The cynic in me says it's getting scooped up by resellers, like seemingly everything else nowadays.
>>
>>98367635

Wargame Portal has a limit of 1 box per customer so it's unlikely that it was just resellers. Still, that's either really fast or there aren't a lot of these boxes. For reference, Wargame Portal was still selling preorders for the new 40k Battleforce boxes for at least a week after they went live. Stock didn't seem to run out for anything besides the Chaos one.
>>
>>98367614
Is anyone else not super happy with the new ogors? Like I'm glad they got an update but I don't like some of the design choices they went with
>>
>>98367562
thats pretty decent except the butcher but that can change in the new edition
>>
>>98367964
If I only have one complaint it’s that they kept the same weapon design the old models have that I never liked at all. Stone maces and their version of two handed cleavers just aren’t cool.

I do also kinda wish they were more magical though.
>>
>>98367976
Really? That was about the one thing I liked lol. I don't like the new gutplates. It looks more like regular armor rather than gutplates. This was especially true on the ironguts. I don't like the blobiness of some of the new units but I think it fits the butchers so idk. I have more but ultimately I hope the people who like them enjoy the model range
>>
>>98367562
Probably
>>
>>98366901
I think you definitely want a butcher. The bloodpelt hunter looks good if you want to go shooting heavy and I think shooting looks decent in the army, but it isn’t featured in the army set. Units like the cleavers are trickier: they do a ton of damage, something like 30 rend -2 damage if you get buffs on them, but they’re also very fragile. This could turn out to be an army where you clog up the board with bulls and trade smaller hammer units.

>>98366921 is solid advice. I think Redd will be played a lot, but you have enough to be going on with if you just get that and can see what people trend towards.
>>
>>98367964
I have a few nitpicks like how Redd should look far more grotesque but overall I like them. Between the maneaters/whatever the replacement leadbelcher unit is and the yeti hints the eventual second wave should have some good stuff too
>>
>>98367964
There's stuff I like and stuff I don't like (e.g. the helmets or all mounts being bald now) but overall the former far outweigh the latter (to me personally).
>>
>>98367694
Wargame Portal sold out of the Helsmiths launch box within minutes but you could still find it elsewhere for months. GW probably isn't sending much stock to individual stores for these boxes and Wargame Portal is one of the best known discount sites for the US.

>>98367964
I play ogors and I prefer the old models. Not a fan of the more realistic proportions and sad about some of the choices for cuts (leadbelchers.) Also not a huge fan of femogors but they don't bother me as much as the female chorfs (except for the minor fact that those were optional.)

Don't see myself buying any of the models anytime soon. I don't want to update my guys and the new units won't fit in with my current army.
>>
>>98367976
Luckily ogres aren't exactly known for their craftsmanship so anons' greenstuff work is probably on par with ogres' smithing skill and, being a low unit count army, it might be feasible to make many of their weapons yourself.

Even so, Maulbeast Raiders spend so long traversing the uncaring wilds alongside their mounts that something of a bond develops. >‘Grell tried to explain it, but I still can’t fully track her beliefs. Everyone knows that the ogors’ Gulping God and Gorkamorka are one and the same, even if the ogors depict him as a massive set of jaws rather than the usual huge orruk. I also know that ogors can easily take to worshipping anything big, impressive and natural. Toll called it a kind of animism; they'll accept volcanoes as gods, or moving mountains or ice storms – not to mention the godbeasts in their clan histories. What puzzled me was how Grell said that all of those were still the same power at their heart. Instead of just two heads, like how orruks describe Gorkamorka, the ogors’ god might as well have a million. Worshipping a deity in different forms isn’t new, obviously. The Edassan folk believe the God-King has the face of a lion, and Nagash cults who have a new, inoffensive title for Old Bones crop up each Hyshrise. But for ogors, there’s no contradiction. The Gulping God is the Gulping God, but his spirit is also the spirit of everything else worthy of worship in the realms, even when the myths speak of him directly fighting with them. Maybe we’re not meant to understand. Or maybe Gorkamorka’s essence is one universal truth, and the Gulping God is a form they understand best. And that’s assuming ogors really know what they're worshipping – or pay any mind to it at all.’

I am a TOW chud and I am looking into AoS because of the Ogor refresh. While the named characters look lame I think the rest of the range refresh looks amazing and I used to play Ogre Kingdoms back as a teen.

Is the army set a good deal if I can get it at $168 USD? I am reading it's about 1000 points, are normal AOS games played at 2000 points? What are some resources to look into how the game actually plays turn to turn as well, I have no idea other than it being described at Fantasy 40k, but I don't like 40k currently with the stratagems and scoring objectives each turn focus. Would I potentially like AoS? And where most importantly can I learn more about how granular it is? Thanks in advance.

If you can get it for 168 yes absolutely 100%, that's a steal. It's a great box, half an army as AoS proper is indeed played at 2k points generally. It also contains a spearhead, so you can play it in that gamemode straight out of the box.
The box is actually pretty bad at msrp since it's only just barely a discount if you don't count the tome, which many people don't care about. But at the price you mentioned it's great, it's got everything you would want to start an ogre army, and it's a good base to build on if you want to go into more specific directions later (mawseekers, beastclaw, ...). We only just got the rules and points so we're not exactly 100% sure how good everything is but every unit looks playable at the very least.
How's the local spearhead/aos scene in your area? That's probably the most important thing to know.

At $168 it should still be a better deal considering you get an extra unit of gluttons in the box.
Also, I wouldn't be so sure that the upcoming spearhead box will be the one contained in the army set. I have a feeling it'll be picrel.
>>98368757
Not really, he said her entire right half would be rebuilt as a cannon which is clearly not the case here. The earlier post above of Redd's contact with the divine was something that boole apparently got straight from the tome though.

Yes really, he mentioned the connection with talhia and she's got a prosthetic holding the cannon, you're just hung up on how extensive the prosthetic was to be in your head.

Comes to think of it, that's a genius pipeline for sales
>introduce character profile you have to convert
>make it op so people actually get to convert and use one
>later release an official version that's got a slightly different equipment and in any case looks better than people's conversions
>people feel obligated to buy it because now there's an official/better model for the op unit they already use
>later nerf it
they could make so much more money out of their pity heroes by telegraphing them a tiny bit via "season-of-X" warscrolls

No matter how you slice it, a prosthetic hook is not the same as having "your entire right half rebuilt into an artillery piece". Boole oversold here, it happens. I agree that he probably had access to the tome though.
>>
>>98368812
Oh, like that. Still, 168 usd is like ~150 yuros right? That's still a pretty hefty discount. My usual online retailers have it at 175, which is a 15% discount on the €206 msrp GW asks. Or well I guess "had" since I just noticed it sold out

>>
>>98369028
>Plastic injection moulding nor 3d printing
why would you think those would be the limiting factor in the sculpting of good fur?
>>
>>98369032
CoS is a new faction replacing a placeholder trashbin, ogres are a range refresh, only the parts that need a refresh get refreshed or flushed away, while the parts that don't need a refresh don't get one, the stonehorn doesn't need one, it doesn't get one
>>
>>98368753
>how’s the local scene
Looks like they have an AoS tournament every month, and one night a week dedicated to casual games. I’m really looking for a good source to see how the game plays so I can see if I’ll actually enjoy the ruleset. I’m used to grainier games but I don’t actually know how AoS plays in detail.

Currently I play TOW, Bolt Action and MESBG
>>
>>98369033
Google how they work. You can't have undercuts unless you split the part. Most GW fur isn't made from more than one part, so it always looks flat.
>>
>>98369062
And I guess in your mind this fur >>98368965, or pic related, was magicked onto the model by gnomes from the easter island instead of being cad sculpted and then injection moulded, or 3d printed for the prototype model.
>>
>>98368664
Gluthorn should’ve been a rhinox or just a massive mournfang
>>
>>98369077
I don't think that fur has any overhangs though, at least not in the parts that are made out of a single sprue component
>>
>>98369105
point is that gw can do good fur, cad sculpted and injection moulded, it just didn't for the new ogre mounts because they are fucking hacks
>>
>>98368086
My problem with the fem ogors is that the design of all of the ogors changed to get them in. The gut plates stretch up to the collar almost because it makes it easier to make female ogor models

unlikely, any model for aos gets easily taken by towfags for conversion projects and they already have a predisposition for houserules and for being opposed to xboxhueg forge-world tier titanic models as normal units
you'll get more people pissed off at undivided chaos in aos feeling underexplored because they lost all their previous units and clearly aren't getting enough to make up for them

Highly unlikely considering he also leaked warriors, knights, a chaos dragon, chaos bsb on foot and daemonic mount lord in the same post as all this other stuff. Writing ogre lists is actually pretty hard when your cheapest unit is 160 points.
>>
>>98369747
>>98369802
Yeah, that's why I found it odd too. That's a lot of big kits for probably tow's most sated faction though, especially considering that for example the manticore is very recent all things considered, 7th or 8th edition. Like you'd think they'd give idk high elves or o&g some shit first instead of giving chaos warriors yet another set of shiny new toys.
>>98369852
They should've added some pricey artefacts or mount traits or something. I know there's some, but they're all 10 points. Make your tyrant get a sabretusk pet for 40 points or whatever, to smooth out listbuilding a bit.
